I've been having an impossible time ripping home video DVD's to my PC with VLC Media Player. Every time I try, the audio doesn't carry over. For context: these DVDs were created from Sony video8 tapes. Is there a wrong setting somewhere? To add to the weirdness, when I play some of them the audio will randomly cut out and if I "rewind" 5 seconds, it will come right back.

I would just use HandBrake to rip

This ^ , or create a new profile, use mp4, enable video and enable use original video track and do the same for audio
