Hey i just got a new mobo and processor (b660-g gaming and 13700kf) and ever since i built it i have insanely unstable temps, like im chilling at 30c idle and then randomly spikes to 100c. If i try to run any kind of benchmark the temps go crazy and just stay at 100c, ive tried to reseat the aio and apply new thermal paste etc but no luck yet, another thing i thought was weird is the VID voltage spikes up to like 1.7.

First 10 minutes.

Then go buy the Thermalright frame.

Intel's CPU socket for the Alder Lake (12th Gen) CPUs applies higher pressure on one side, causing reduced pressure between the cooler coldplate and CPU. We're replacing the stock Intel ILM (on the socket) with a Thermal Grizzly Contact Frame. Testing includes analysis ...

Also, Intel has designated this as "NORMAL" behavior.

thanku, ordering this rn

#

so is it safe to even use my pc for gaming rn?

Yeah it will be fine. The CPU will keep itself from dying.

You can also mitigate this issue by disabling any automatic optimizations from BIOS. What board do you have?

B660-G gaming wifi

i cant seem to control the voltage either , the default cpu voltage is 1.625 but all the settings are greyed out

Yeah. Just disable AI optimizations.

cant seem to unlock it no matter what i change Peepo_Sigh

But your cooler seems also to be too small for handling turbo speed a long time. Your cooler is rated 180W TDP and the 13700kf is rated 253 W at max turbo (base 125W). If you want to use turbo speed of your CPU for longer time before throttling or without throttling you should also upgrade your CPU cooler.
The Thermalright frame looks like a good optimization but I think it will not fully bring you the results you want.

Ye im looking into a new cooler

#

I just thought the huge spikes were weird

#

Like if i just open chrome my temp can spike to 100c for a few seconds

#

So wasent sure if it was even safe to use the pc rn

#

And isent 1.6v very high? Its set to that by default and i just cant figure out how to unlock it for undervolting
