I recently decided to invest in a large anti-static workstation that is fully grounded. As I am not an electrical engineer I have a few questions regarding how static discharge works. If I am connected to ground, but a component is in an unknown state of buildup (un-opened), will touching the component cause it to discharge and result in damage? If so, is there any way around this?

-Any replies are greatly appreciated

pc components are surprisingly resilient to static you shouldn't worry about it too much

I have never used any anti static equipment. Worked on wooden tables and nothing has ever happened
