have you tried clearing the cache files?

  • Select the three dots at the top of the window and choose Options.
  • Choose the Clear button next to Clear File Explorer history.
  • Close and reopen all your File Explorer windows.

Also might wanna check for updates

if that doesn't help maybe perform a sfc/ scannow command in CMD (running in admin mode)

old girder
#

i did clear the cache

hazy nymph
#

alright, then perform the sfc /scannow command in CMD

#

see if it finds anything, it should also automatically repair any faulty files it finds

old girder
#

does it scan all my files

hazy nymph
#

it scans your windows files

#

similar to a health scan

old girder
#

i have 7 million files

hazy nymph
#

it will only scan your system files

old girder
#

good

#

cmd took 2 minutes to open

hazy nymph
#

and replace corrupted ones with a cached copy that is located in a compressed folder at %WinDir%\System32\dllcache.
the %WinDir& placeholder represents the windows operating system folder. for example, C:\Windows

#

Dont close the Command prompt window until the verification is 100% complete, the scan results will be shown after the process is finished

old girder
#

how do i actually run it

hazy nymph
#

if you opend CMD in admininstravie mode, you just type "sfc /scannow"

old girder
#

its done

hazy nymph
#

now restart the pc, and see if it resolved the issue

old girder
#

i did restart

hazy nymph
#

this might be a dumb question. but did you restart. or did you turn it off and on again

old girder
#

restart

hazy nymph
#

alright, so I take it did not resolve the issue?

old girder
#

idk it randomly becomes slow

#

sometimes its ok sometimes it isnt so ill have to wait and see

hazy nymph
#

alright, give it some time

old girder
#

i need to update my bios at some point too

hazy nymph
#

at some point

old girder
#

because the current one has issues with termperatures on cpus

#

and doesnt support 5000 series amd

#

and when i get a job i wanna upgrade to a 5800x3d

hazy nymph
#

its possible, but first, get windows to work propper

old girder
#

aaand its slow again

#

windows key taking ages to respond

#

and pressing windows and e is not opening file explorer for a good 15 seconds

hazy nymph
#

alright, lets try to disk cleanup tool

old girder
#

which one

hazy nymph
#

the one you have installed windows on

#

so most likely the C drive

old girder
#

now what

hazy nymph
#

you select clean up system files

#

also you might wanna defragment your hard drive

old girder
#

what

hazy nymph
#

nevermind, you use a SSD.

#

thats only for HDD's mostly

old girder
#

do i select them all

hazy nymph
#

yea, I would

#

except for the optimisation files

old girder
hazy nymph
#

WTF

old girder
#

theres like 8 isos in there

hazy nymph
#

you never shift-del?

old girder
#

i do like once per mo

hazy nymph
#

everything I throw away 100% I always shift-del

old girder
#

i usually accidentally delete stuff

hazy nymph
#

still 20gb in just the bin is not great...

old girder
#

i dont put games on c drive its ok

hazy nymph
#

yea, don't put games on the same drive as your windows installation, you wanna keep that drive as clean as possible

old girder
#

i have 120gb of storage left on it

hazy nymph
#

that should be plenty

old girder
#

now 165gb

hazy nymph
#

Damm, thats a lot of trash

#

alright, now test if its going better

old girder
#

its still deleting

hazy nymph
#

.>

old girder
#

i dont wanna reinstall windows really

#

its done and just as slow

#

i have so much stuff on my hard drive maybe its that

#

5 1/2 million files

hazy nymph
#

shouldn't be

old girder
#

could it be anything to do with my network drives that arnt switched on

#

like its trying to connect or something

#

the network drives from my xbox

hazy nymph
#

its a possibility

old girder
#

i can disconnect them

hazy nymph
#

maybe do a windows restore

old girder
#

it feels like linux on a old hard drive right now

hazy nymph
#

yea, that's an oef

old girder
#

i think i might still have ubuntu on my computer

#

idk i might of deleted it

#

it feels faster so far

hazy nymph
#

thats a good sign

old girder
#

i think its fixed

#

weird how that was the problem

hazy nymph
#

not really, it comes back to the first solution giving

old girder
#

bit annoying because now its harder for me to access my dev files

hazy nymph
#

but et least its faster

#

can't have everything

old girder
#

its been a while and everything is fine @hazy nymph

#

so thats the problem fixed
