Posting specs would be ideal

1.15ghz Athlon Thunderbird, 384mb pc133 sd ram 3x 128mb sticks, ATI Radeon 7500, x2 40gb ide HDDs

#

i tried another known good PSU same result

edgy cave
#

A Compaq persario pc goodness this is a throwback

#

I would try a cmos reset

gusty solstice
#

pulled the cmos battery

#

nothin

edgy cave
#

Did you follow the instructions

gusty solstice
#

yeah

edgy cave
#

You unplugged the psu from the wall?

#

Popped out the battery

#

Held the power button for 10 seconds

#

Then replaced the battery

#

And plugged it back in

#

And tried to turn it on.

gusty solstice
#

yeah still nothin

#

also tried pulling all the expansion cards

edgy cave
#

This system is pretty old it could have just died.

gusty solstice
#

its from 2000

edgy cave
#

Yeah 22 years it's basically an artifact

gusty solstice
#

motherboard probably needs recapped

#

guess i should find someone that knows how to do that

edgy cave
#

The amount of money it would cost to do that wouldn't be worth it to be honest

gusty solstice
#

it has sentimental value

edgy cave
#

Keep it if you want but the drive will be the important thing out of that system

gusty solstice
#

this was my main PC up until 2006

edgy cave
#

I had that computer basically not as high end but same case I know the feels it was my first personal windows experience.

#

I had others but with win95 and 98

#

But nothing I could use daily

gusty solstice
#

would just replace the motherboard but i think anything from this era is going to have the same problem

#

caps are a pretty common issue

edgy cave
#

Yep also it would be prohibitively expensive to get something from that Era

gusty solstice
#

guess ive been wanting to learn how to solder

#

time to learn

#

lol

gusty solstice
#

Update: managed to get it to POST

#

removed it from the case

#

took everything off the mobo and hosed it with contact cleaner

#

must have had some oxidation somehow

#

odd because it wasnt dirty at all

#

and was stored in a climate controlled area

#

still need to replace that one bulging cap on the GPU

gusty solstice
#

OK

#

so apparently the PSU is bad
