wicked wedge
#

Outervision overstates the amount of wattage you need, yes?

#

I've heard that in the past at least.

next goblet
#

Hey! Please! How do you change the default 36330 from a console on a linux server >< spend HOUR and still couldnt figure that out

twin vapor
#

You mean the team?

wicked wedge
#

They estimate I'd be using ~730-750w under load. I've got an 850w platinum rated PSU... Seems safe enough?

next goblet
#

Noo FAHcontrol port (to remotely access two PC'S)

twin vapor
#

the port for the webinterface?

next goblet
#

@twin vapor ... omg.... Fahcontrol port... the default 36330....

twin vapor
#

absolutely no idea, iirc you could configure that in /etc/fahclient/config.xml but im not sure

next goblet
#

That's what I am trying but there is no info at all or what syntax it possibly would be

twin vapor
#

yep, there is absolutely no documentation on any of that

next goblet
#

wow.... 36330 is apparently impossible to change

#

any idea how to access to 2 computers remotely when they share SAME 36330 port?

onyx olive
#

what is this

next goblet
#

<command-port v='36331'/> ha

frozen oxide
#

each computer would have different IP addresses anyway bigbrain

next goblet
#

Not unless ure accessing 2 computers behind NAT @frozen oxide

frozen oxide
#

then forward a different external port to 36330 on each machine, most routers can do that

next goblet
#

Already resolved that .... <command-port v='36331'/> can define it

brittle coral
#

@hushed bobcat yea i've been logging that kind of stuff for a reason, some units use more or less of a given resource for sure

stark bough
#

managed to play with limited power profiles. on ome computer from 6.91 kWh to 4.8 per a day

vital edge
#

still having an issue with the client not detecting my GPU. It was fine for over a year then I had to reinstall Windows 10 over the weekend. I've rolled back the client and installed 7.5.1 but not luck. Perhaps it is a firewall issue but fahclient is permitted on private and public networks.

brittle coral
#

that shouldn't affect it at all

#

it should just work

#

did you fully uninstall F@H first?

#

could do it if you didnt

vital edge
#

uninstalled latest installation, restarted, installed 7.5.1

brittle coral
#

including the data folder?

#

i've missed that once or twice and it's messed things up

#

and out of curiosity, what gpu and drivers are you using

vital edge
#

not the data folder

brittle coral
#

yea

#

you need to delete the data folder

#

thats why

#

you ahve to completely reinstall

vital edge
#

GTX1070 and 445.87

brittle coral
#

dont even need to reboot

#

i tried doing it without erasing data and it didnt work

vital edge
#

well uninstalled 7.15.1 and data and reinstalled the latest 7.6.9 I think and no luck

#

only thing it solved was my point score being displayed which disappeared previously

#

doesn't even appear to detect the 1070 now

#

detects the driver version

brittle coral
#

no you need to start with 7.5.1 lol

#

the bug is with 7.6.9

#

myself and another laid the order out yesterday lol

#

if you don't care, dont even use 6.9

#

if you do want the new features

#

then you install that after 5.1

#

6.9 is what's causing the bug

#

fresh install causes it but if you install it over 5.1 it wont break that specific thing

vital edge
#

these people and their software

#

right .... install again

brittle coral
#

at least it doesn't take long with an SSD xD

vital edge
#

lucky the remote desktop at work is down so I have an excuse to look at this

brittle coral
#

hey have you ever set up any corsair RGB stuff before?

#

curious about an issue im having

vital edge
#

I have a corsair cooler and RAM with RGB

brittle coral
#

in that they falsely advertised that something is compatible when it's not xD

#

yea i have an LL140 fan i just got

#

it has a damn 4 pin lighting connector on it, but the icue commander pro thats coming is all 3 pin

#

my XD5 is also 3 pin so i was kind of surprised to see that this one is 4

#

cause it doesn't work with any of the 4 pin 5v headers for lighting on my board

#

it'll light up red and white but when i put it to calibrate the lights dont address properly

#

the gigabyte software is kinda meh

vital edge
#

have you got corsair link?

brittle coral
#

i normally leave most devices on auto but this fan doens't have it's own auto

#

i don't ahve the commander pro yet

#

it is coming in the mail

#

so i haven't installed the software yet

#

i need to get my ax1200I RMAed lol would be a good thing to also ahve in this build

vital edge
#

can't say I know much about iCUE Commander PRO. It seems unlikely they'd give it all three pin connectors. Have you seen pictures of it?

#

and back

#

thanks for that, got there in the end

brittle coral
#

yup yup np

#

good thing were doing this over text i get visibly irritated when i have to repeat things but it's nbd that's a me problem anyway xD

#

and mostly im already highly irritated because of my own problem

#

i've spent easily $350 on corsair stuff and if this one fan doens't work im contemplating returning the lot xD. i have 2 more fans coming tho which is the bigger issue. if i bought the pump and controller alone that would still be $220 but at least i can buy corsair LED strips to bling my rig still

#

just, the fans are $40 each

#

i would have bought noctua fans instead and not gone LED at all if if i'd known of any compatibility issues, that or bought one of the kits that comes with a matched controller lol

#

anyway, i guess it's time to start troubleshooting this Z97 board

#

friend dropped it off

#

it was mine for a few years

#

hoping it's the board that died cause i have a spare

#

if it's the CPU, then im gonna say the board is ALSO bad xD

#

and blame the 2 dead CPUs on it

vital edge
#

looking at pictures that commander pro has four pin connectors

brittle coral
#

it has 6 fan connectors 4 pin

#

those are for fans

#

12v output

#

ect

#

it has 2 3 pin LED hookups

#

which are usually used with passthroughs to other devices

#

so like the pump has a male and female 3 pin

#

for the LEDs in the res

#

this is what im looking at

#

er sec

#

those lighting channels match the 3 pin on my pump/res

#

and this LL140 fan is like this

#

fuzzy af pic but you can see the difference

#

on the left is the 4 pin from the fan

#

on the right is the 3 pin loop from the pump/res

vital edge
#

yeah I see it

brittle coral
#

thats great because they totally don't sell that device as far as i can tell

#

it only seems to come with their products

#

and they don't sell the fans i wanted in packs at least on amazon

#

or if it is separate

#

it doesn't indicate any support for 4 pin lighting

#

idk

brittle coral
#

okay

#

i figured it out

#

THERE ARE 3 DEVICES REQUIRED

#

.......

#

you need

#

the fan

#

a fan led splitter

#

and the LED controller pro

#

or the commander pro

#

it has a SATA power on one end and a 3 pin out to the pro link on either module

#

lol it censored me for the all caps message

#

and deleted the video i sent

#

and some other chat

#

long story short reeeeeee corsair wants me to buy all their stuff

#

yea i give up

#

im buying a set of 3 fans

#

and doing another row of them on the visible 3x120 radiator

#

gonna look tight lol

vital edge
#

lol

#

I just went through this

#

uninstall folding@home including data

#

then you can download 7.5.1 which last worked for me

#

they only offer one package to download

#

hang on

#

wrong link sorry

#

yup

#

apparently you can upgrade to the latest version once you've installed an older working version but I didn't bother

brittle coral
#

ayyy i was afk but i see you got that figured out

#

teamwork!

brittle coral
#

seems like work servers are feeding great but my reported PPD is down yet again ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

plain geyser

forest sapphire
#

okay how does one correctly restart FAH on windows?

#

excatly what application do I need to start?

#

omg nevermind

smoky rose
#

Just reboot. ๐Ÿ™‚

forest sapphire
#

haha that is what I normally do

#

I got it to restart and now I can't get it going again

#

trying to figure out which security profile on my Fortigate is killing my connection lol

hushed bobcat
wind otter
#

Any potential reason why my CPU isn't being used more at full ?

main mist
#

Because it wont be used at 100%.

#

Also Task Manager is not good for monitoring CPU and GPU usage for folding.

wind otter
#

Alright thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

trail night
#

So... my pc dies after like 48hs of continuous folding Has anybody had that issue before?

storm talon
#

dies?

brittle coral
#

@wind otter in my experience it should still use your cpu more than that for running CPU WUs. mine easily hits 90-95% the way i have it set with 12 threads on my 8/16 3800x

wind otter
#

@brittle coral After some time and some reboots as I was troubleshooting other things now it's running at 100%, may have just been a F@H software hiccup or whatever ๐Ÿ™‚

brittle coral
#

yea

#

happens

brittle coral
#

ughhhhhhhh

#

im gonna flip my lid if this package isn't here tmrw

#

all my other packages got here just fine xD

#

also all 3 of those offices are close enough to have just sent someone out with it given the extended delay at this point. It was a UPS order guaranteed within a certain timeframe, not just some no rush shipping order xD

#

i need that memory here tmrw with the network adapters to get the x570 board thats down, up and working

eager crater
#

I've got a question: I've only folded for the LTT Team on one computer, but a few other teams and an extra client have shown up in my stats. Where did those come from?

brittle coral
#

did you get a unique ID code to attach to your client for the QRB?

#

that also ties your stats to that ID

#

if you fold for more than one team it will show unique profiles on the OCN stats page as well that everyone uses, based on which teams you contributed to, but that shouldn't affect the official stats page afaik

#

also AWESOME, my nic is here a day early

#

so now the ram is officially late =/

eager crater
#

I made an identity and got a passkey, if that's what you're referring to, yeah

brittle coral
#

yea idk wth then

#

i jumped around plus i also folded anon for some other teams while i was testing stuff because it wasn't gonna add up to enough that i wanted to track it

eager crater
#

I typed my username into that, and the stats are the same. It's only showing my stats for the LTT Team

#

Maybe I chose a username for folding that is common and others had it too, which is where the extra teams came from, idk

brittle coral
#

yea

#

thats my guess

#

hey guys

#

any idea why my rig isn't getting QRB after i log in?

#

i reinstalled the client and it's still happening

#

yes i typed the key correctly as well, i copied and pasted the same one i always use

#

okay its showing some qrb now but something else is wrong lol

#

performance is WAY under what it should be xD

radiant oasis
#

Check that your slider is set to full in advanced settings because sometimes doing it through the browser doesnt switch it properly

brittle coral
#

it is

radiant oasis
#

hmm

#

not sure

brittle coral
#

im looking at it right now trying to find whats wrong

#

this is what im looking at

#

CPU seems okay

#

that is the cpu output, which is okayish for a 6 core 2600x with 3 cores in use running nvidia gpus

#

but

radiant oasis
#

It could just be a really heavy workload and thats why its taking longer

brittle coral
#

thats the 1060

#

it cant be

radiant oasis
#

The size of the simulations they send are different

brittle coral
#

yea i know

#

but

#

im telling you

#

all these cards performed higher on the same WU before

#

its just a new rig thats the only big change

#

like this one

#

i know i should be getting 360k on this card

radiant oasis
#

Is it a mining rig youre repurposing?

brittle coral
#

no

#

its a new rig

#

yes they're miners

#

i got them loaned just to fold

#

they have both been tested

#

360-430kppd

#

same as a 1060

#

the other is a 960 im just testing the first time, and it did it with a 290x as well

#

radeon 290x

#

at first i thought something was wrong with the 290x but now idk whats going on

radiant oasis
#

if theyre running on pcie risers unplug the power connector to those and plug them back in, i actually am running am 8 gpu 1060 rig thats folding right now and i had a similar issue

brittle coral
#

theyre not

radiant oasis
#

ok

brittle coral
#

its all directly in board

#

8x 4x 4x

#

bus is no more than 70%

radiant oasis
#

i have no idea then man im sorry

brittle coral
#

yea im confused as fuck xD

radiant oasis
#

that makes no sense lmao

brittle coral
#

@_@

#

the part that makes the least sense is this

#

the 960 is the fastest card

#

xD

#

earlier they werne't even reporting QRB either though

#

idk im wondering if it's a reporting error but i don't know how that would even be

#

the completion times seem to be fine too

radiant oasis
#

did you update the gpu drivers maybe?

brittle coral
#

im about to

#

im going to DDu the lot

#

im wondering if running mixed drivers fucked something up

radiant oasis
#

that might be your best bet at this point

brittle coral
#

it has both nvidia and amd

radiant oasis
#

yeah running both at once can cause weird issues

brittle coral
#

yea lol

#

but i also confirmed that the 290x is a faster gaming car

#

d

#

even if my homie is at a lower res

#

im gonna give him a 290x and keep this 960

#

the rig isn't originally his

radiant oasis
#

my friend threw a Vega 56 in his system to mine with while gaming on a 2070 super and he dropped 20 frames

brittle coral
#

lol

radiant oasis
#

so it could definitely be the drivers not getting along

brittle coral
#

dang

#

and yea

#

this is the low end for both my other rigs

#

that can hit 4 combined

#

4.1 peak

#

avg 3.7-3.8

#

14549 is a slow little shit tho especially on AMD xD

#

that card can hit 480-500k on some other WUs maybe 600 rarely

#

ditto my 5700xt but it has a better WU rn

#

eh, its okay

#

it can hit about 1m

#

900-850 typical

#

the other nvidia only rig is running nicely as well but im not gonna run through each slot

#

thats so many slots

#

xD

#

2060 is running an oxytocin receptor simulation tho, those are real nice fast ones lol

marble quartz
#

are the slots manually configured or auto

brittle coral
#

all semi-manual

#

some is auto some isnt

#

the one thing i know is the slots are pointing to each card properly

#

actually hold on let me confirm that

#

i wonder......

#

the last time i had this kind of issue they were all pointing to the same one by mistake

#

but that would still be weird

#

because this was happening before all 3 slots had work

marble quartz
#

my thought was it's running opencl instead of cuda

brittle coral
#

ait DDUd it and rebooting, hopefully i don't have to go baby it in the garage to boot or something xD

#

running it through VNC

#

ayyyyy

#

that 800x600 window

#

my bet is that something with opencl broke

#

my understanding is that the client doesnt even use CUDA now it just uses OpenCL for everything

#

could be wrong

#

but either way if something in the OpenCL libraries is fubar'd that'd do it

#

and why the cpu was fine

#

because it just uses C++ or C# probably

#

standard x86-64 with AVX2

marble quartz
#

if it's cuda should be c++

brittle coral
#

i mean for the cpu lol

#

but yea

#

cuda used c++ code you're right

marble quartz
#

I had a class on parallel computing

#

it was fun

brittle coral
#

i was just guessing lol

#

but dope

marble quartz
#

but debugging is hell

brittle coral
#

yea that's the universal thing i seemed to hear lol

#

coding for multithreaded apps is supposedly harder but if you learn some tools and tricks for it, you can build your own tools to build software around your base code once you have it threaded well

#

also something something task scheduling, idk. been ye4ars since i looked at anything about it

#

ayyy, i got the same driver bug ih ad before now

#

gonna DDU again and start over with the driver i was using previously

#

this is a newer one i havent tested yet

#

hah i have to load it onto a USB from another PC because the download is down

#

on guru3D and nvidia's site

marble quartz
#

task scheduling is more OS related than to the program you're running

brittle coral
#

yea it was mostly people griping about the old xp and 7 task schedulers being poorly optimized for multi-threading

#

as well as the hardware itself to a degree still compared to today

marble quartz
#

one of the reasons why win 10 seems faster than win 7

brittle coral
#

yea lol

marble quartz
#

and why it's not on old hardware

brittle coral
#

also i think it's still ahppening

#

after a driver reinstall

marble quartz
#

maybe just run a vm and configure gpu passthrough?

brittle coral
#

i havent ever set that up before

marble quartz
#

eh not hard

#

but takes time to do

brittle coral
#

yea and if i use 10 in a 10 vm thats gonna use so much ram

#

ugh xD

#

hah performance seems to be just as bad now yea

#

at least the ppd reporting

marble quartz
#

oh it doesn't have to be windows u know

brittle coral
#

yea lol

#

i guess i could run just F@H in the vm

#

and run all my monitoring in windows still

#

where i have the software set up the way i want already

#

what vm app do you think is best for GPU pass

marble quartz
#

if you're worried about ram much use either server version of a distro

#

or run like xfce

brittle coral
#

i was just going to download some ubuntu distro xD

#

rather than win10

marble quartz
#

try xubuntu if you still want a desktop environment

brittle coral
#

i have an iso of that already sitting

marble quartz
#

really lightweight compared to unity

brittle coral
#

lol

#

you never answered about what VM client to use

marble quartz
#

virtualbox is my go to preference

#

opensource and free

brittle coral
#

how much of a headache you think that'll be with GPU passthrough?

#

im already tired and burned out mentally from all the work today

#

and especially annoyed about this now cause of it XD

#

all that for what Y_Y

#

there's absolutely no reason this should be happening lol

#

im going to just let it run and complete a WU and see what happens lol

#

all 3 cards gonna finish around the same time

marble quartz
#

nevermind, pci passthroughs don't work on windows host lol

brittle coral
#

yea lol

#

thats waht i was wondering

#

and why i didnt do it right away, i was told only vmware could do what i want maybe and that it's still a hassle

worldly hazel
#

khrysmHmm Weird some days I don't get any WU, other days (like today) I get a WU as soon as I search for it.

brittle coral
#

yea @worldly hazel it seems real solid today. i got WUs immediately when i set up my new rig but it's just screwing me around on the reported PPD and i'm stressing cause idk why it's under-reporting what it should be

#

the time to complete is fine and it's getting QRB it just isn't getting much xD

worldly hazel
#

katieHmm It aborted the download and now searching again.

trim crystal
#

@prime grotto yes

worldly hazel
#

@prime grotto no it aborted the download and now Idles

brittle coral
#

i def am

#

im getting plenty its just that one rig that not reporting correctly the ppd outpuyt

#

9/10 slots full yea

solid anchor
#

@brittle coral vmware can passthrough gpus, as well as unraid and proxmox

#

Xen can as well

slate lake
#

update your client if you haven't in a while maybe that would help?

#

i had to restart my computer cause the client wouldn't open just the web page for w/e reason ๐Ÿ˜

brittle coral
#

lol

#

this is a fresh install

#

fresh everything

#

cept the drive itself is old i guess, and the case xD

#

cards are used

slate lake
#

Idk

brittle coral
#

yea im mystified

#

the cpu is doing about what i expected

#

21k

#

folding 14300

#

everything else is WUs i've done before on the 1060s and i was gonna test the 960 to see how it did

#

the time to complete is fine too

#

one unit is done in 30m

brittle coral
#

yea slot turned over and next unit is in the same boat

vernal oasis
#

Hmm odd, I can't seem to change the config

slate lake
#

;c Folding@Home is a buggy client

vernal oasis

๐Ÿ˜ฎ it knew!

rich depot
#

How are we all getting on today?

brittle coral
#

showing download 0% just means it hasn't gotten a work unit today

#

hey spectrum, have you ever seen this before

#

i have a new rig up but its not outputting full QRB

#

like massively under reporting it

#

and idk if im actually getting the QRB for that rig or not properly

#

only on my GPUs as well

rich depot
#

As in, fahcontrol is showing it without a correct QRB?

brittle coral
#

yea as far as i would determine based on the WU turnover time

#

yea right now its not reporting any

#

it still isnt i think is the issue

#

earlier it looked like it was but now im not sure it even was then

#

i signed in and everything

#

this should be 360-380k on that WU

#

ppd

rich depot
#

Hmm... could just be an issue with the calculation on the client end, presuming you have the most up to date veserion of everything, FAH, Drivers, OS ect

brittle coral
#

yea

#

im wondering if after a day i'll see it reported

#

the rig came up around midnight

#

i reinstalled drivers and everything once to be sure

#

cause i was confused as hell

#

reinstalled the client after that

rich depot
#

I know there are some issues present in the new client, but I'm not sure if this is one of them.

brittle coral
#

still did it

#

it wasnt just the new one

#

ii started on 7.5.1

#

then moved it to 7.6.9 after that

rich depot
#

Best bet is to watch your production, if it seems right then just ignore it, if you aren't being awarded QRB then I'd hit up the folding forum and see what they say

brittle coral
#

best part

#

only the gpu

#

cpu seems fine

#

fosho

rich depot
#

7.6.9 has been the bane of my life... can't even get the thing to work as of now on foldatron

brittle coral
#

yea im just annoyed because i can't bench the 290x against a gtx960 in F@H now

#

xD

rich depot
#

Going to try a clean install of FAH shortly. I'm not too bothered about it as it will be getting a new OS on it soon... When I can be bothered but I'm missing out on the science!

brittle coral
#

friend is going to get the 290x if it's slower than his 960 in F@H since the 290x is faster in games

rich depot
#

Sounds like a plan

brittle coral
#

but now i have no clue

#

anyway im gonna sleep

#

annoyee

#

the whole rig is reporting around 200k output but it should be around 1.3-1.4m

slate lake
#

๐Ÿ˜ฎ

brittle coral
#

lol thats not even that much

#

it was gonna be my 2nd highest rig only because of using my 5700xt to game some days, otherwise it'd be my 3rd highest xD

#

unless i shuffle cards around

#

i think im leaving it tho

#

the 8350k should be faster per clock than the 2600x but not by much, so with all the faster cards in that board they're happier there for now. once i get my 3800x into it and a 4900x or 4950x in this board i'll be golden tho to have whatever wherever xD

#

peak of 4-4.1 between them, the 3rd rig was gonna put me around 5.5 peak avg 4.8-5 probably

#

which, of course, doesn't translate on the stats page because not all slots are 100% fed still

#

today last was my highest day reported yet and i only hit 3.25

#

i had this kind of power available last saturday

#

@rich depot im wondering if its actually just the client fucking up. im already at 1.3m for today and its 9am. idk if it counts from pacific time on the charts or not but regardless, 1.3m isnt bad lol

#

im screenshotting my stats page just to be sure tho cause if i gain even more while im asleep than i have so far today (lot of WU about to finish) then i'll know for sure xD

slate lake
#

at least i'm helping ๐Ÿ˜

brittle coral
#

at the end of the day

#

you were still part of a world record breaking event

#

๐Ÿ˜‰

#

look at all the anons with millions more WU completed than LTT team folding for team default with the same end score or less

#

that still added up to an absolute fucking ton

#

its one of those 1%er arguments, except it only takes a few thousand dollars dedicated to buying used nvidia GPUs on ebay and putting them in 3-5 slot x4 systems (need at least x4 3.0 for a 1060) with CPUs that can feed that many GPUs each with their own whole dedicated core, to become a 1%er

#

or, having a bunch already, and getting basically a whole rig worth donated to you to fold on

#

thats where 3 of mine came from and i had 2 already

unreal rapids
#

Are the servers down or something?

#

I have one system trying to send a work order and another system trying to download one

brittle coral
#

WOW

#

@rich depot i think i figured it out

rich depot
#

Go on

brittle coral
#

date and time settings, the date was 24hrs off

#

that'd do it

#

yea, i changed the date and it wigged out the client a sec

#

im gonna reboot that pc

rich depot
#

As long as its sorted, that's all that matters

brittle coral
#

yea i think that's what it was lol

#

while i was troubleshooting the board at some point i yanked the bios battery

#

stupid faulty NIC breaking everything xD

#

now it has an intel PCIe x1 nic and its fine

#

holy shit yea its already reporting correctly xD

fickle needle
#

i made my own DVI dummy plug, now I just need to get it plugged into my rig and it can continue helping with the fight against corona!

brittle coral
#

@unreal rapids thats normal thats just the servers being undermaintained right now because they're trying to bring up more

#

dvi dummy plug sounds cool, can you make it tell the system its got a specific resolution monitor plugged in?

#

i'd love dvi dummy plugs so I don't have to use a monitor on every PC with VNC installed so i can just remote in. i have a monitor that does the job for now for 3 rigs but if i ever need more xD

#

@rich depot im gonna test the 290x when i get up cause rn the 960 is getting 220k ppd on a wu the 1060 gets 380k on

unreal rapids
#

Oh okay thanks

brittle coral
#

but for now

#

๐Ÿ˜„

unreal rapids
#

Wow I wish I could even get close to those kind of numbers

brittle coral
#

yea thats my low end rig

fickle needle
#

@brittle coral and the trick with the dummy plug I made is it's only working off the analog portion, so basically the computer sees it as an old VGA monitor with no ID chip hooked up through a DVI adapter

brittle coral
#

and for sure

#

good to know

#

that doesn't help me a ton though since it'll screw me on screen real estate

unreal rapids
#

I'm only folding on an i5 with no GPU FeelsBadMan

brittle coral
#

yea that'll do it

#

im folding on 2 ryzens, a 2600x and a 3800x, and 8 GPUs

fickle needle
#

@brittle coral i'll see if it works and then report back

unreal rapids
#

Wow that's amazing

brittle coral
#

yea i use VNC exclusively for control

#

and yea

#

spectrum has more rig than i do but i have uh

#

this rig, 3800x with rx580 and 5700xt

unreal rapids
#

I guess every little bit helps

brittle coral
#

2nd rig, 8350k not folding itself feeding 980ti, 1070, 2060

#

3rd rig 2600x feeding 2 p106-100 miners (1060) and right now a 960 but im gonna work with that a bit

#

see how the 290x affects performance of the other 2 throug hdrivers

#

vs having just nvidia drivers and only a 960

#

i may also snap, and buy this new in box 2080ti FTW3 EVGA card on craigslist for $800 @_@

fickle needle
#

because thankfully it doesn't need to display anything, so I could set it to like 4k 144hz for the lolz

#

I was about to talk smack for paying 800$ for a 2080 Ti but then the local craigslsit has only 1 for 1300$

brittle coral
#

yea its $900 now he raised it but still

#

also

#

its not just any

#

its a FTW3

#

thats one of the more expensive ones

#

thats like a $2000 card on newegg

#

nvm its $1500 now

#

was showing 1999

fickle needle
#

meh, I always take MSRP price for cards in recent gens with a grain of salt, how much of that price is due to the demand for cryptomining

left patrol
#

Hello yes, can I buy your 2080ti for less so I can help cure Covid? ruyuAYAYA2

tawny bolt
#

i mean

#

whats wrong with a graphics card company supporting fighting diseases using what they have

#

like

#

is that a thing yet or no

brittle coral
#

nope not yet bud

#

also wow only a few total messages the entire time i was sleeping lol

stark bough
#

Power requirements though :/

brittle coral
#

40 cores?

#

lightweight

#

xD

#

3990x threadripper xD

#

only 64 cores /128 threads

#

if what they say is true about F@H only supporting up to 32 threads tho, i wonder if you'd have to actually set up multiple slots or if that's a hard limit lol

silver wing
#

No that was wrong, plus the issue he was having was a windows thing

#

but even in windows you just create two CPU slots and set the cores per slot

brittle coral
#

yea i thought so

#

he's just uneducated and both doesn't understand how distributed computing works and what the projects themselves are, as well as how to properly configure the client lol

marble quartz
#

I looked at his channel for a bit and I'm already confused what kind of channel he is trying to be

stark bough
#

@marble quartz if you really want to see a confused channel see chubbyemu

brittle coral
#

man, this water loop is gonna be clean for once me thinks

#

i just flushed my 2ph wash out with distilled and the before flush was bright blue

#

it was bad xD

#

citric acid has the benefit of not oxidizing the copper itself as it reacts so you can clean with it without it eating the copper to badly compared to say vinegar

stark bough
#

Different pka. Im suprised you didnt get a shortage of citric acid

brittle coral
#

shortage?

#

why would there be a shortage of citric acid lol

#

yes, you can use it to clean, but nobody thinks about that cause they were taught to do it with vinegar. people mostly aren't chemistry smart enough to figure something like that out, and amazon sells it in pretty massive bags as well if you need larger. i ordered a 1lb bag and used a half cup (64g) aprox into aprox 2l of water and then filled the loop with it, topping off with distilled water. then when it came time to empty i converted the pump inlet to a funnel gasket inlet so it would suck water right out of my funnel and pump it through the loop to flush it. emptied like the last 1/4 of a gallon before dumping a whole gallon through it to flush it (about 4.5L total flush). i'd run my loop pre-treatment next starting it's minimum 24hr cycle but i ordered an RGB block from alphacool that uses my motherboard RGB, which turns out doesn't work, so i figured out who was selling corsair's newest block for my socket since I have the matching pump and RGB controller for that already working over USB. just gotta wait for it to get here before i pre-treat xD

#

so much work but it'll be worth the peace of mind that my CPU isn't cooking alive under the stock cooler or an inferior air cooler during the summer months

stark bough
#

Emergen-c was rumored to be an immune booster. People were talking about buying itup to โ€œprotect againstcoronaโ€

brittle coral
#

ooh lol

#

well this is anhydrous citric acid

#

vitamin C is ascorbic acid, totally different though they're both common in citrus obviously

#

no one would go buying up citric acid pure, its basically lemon taste in a bag and it'll mess your insides up if you have to much haha

worldly hazel
#

rooPog Got a GPU WU

brittle coral
#

nice

#

how long did that take

worldly hazel
#

startet the client at 9, got the WU at 9:04

fickle needle
#

in other news, DON'T FLUSH YOUR LOOP WITH EMERGEN-C

#

it has to be said or someone will try it

slate lake

what

rich crane
#

Fahcontrol been stuck at "connecting" all day, despite multiple (client) restarts and attempts at kicking sense into it. Any ideas?

#

muh points are fading away!

frozen peak
#

Does anyone else get this from time to time? only running gpu wu, does it maybe every hour or so, haven't kept track exactly

idle harness
#

yeah it happens to me too

#

originally thought it was a pcie issue but not sure if thats actually the case

frozen peak
#

alright. It seems to do it every 36 minutes, for about 30 seconds. Doesn't seem like a problem just looks kinda odd

onyx canopy
#

im back

#

with the new psu

#

@rich depot

rich depot
#

NICE!!!

onyx canopy
#

im going to fold like never seen before

agile edge
#

So my GTX 1060 6GB isnt being detected in F@H at all

#

Nvidia drivers are installed, its only folding on CPU

#

GPUs.txt is present

main mist
#

What power?

agile edge
#

Full

onyx canopy
#

@agile edge

#

I found a fix

#

uninstall completely FAH

#

install 7.5.1

#

then install 7.6.8 over it (without uninstalling 7.5.1)

unborn mauve
#

Same thing happened to me on Mac. Then after a while it just started to work.

#

I had a feeling there was some TCP timeout involved

rocky otter
#

@frozen peak happens to me pretty frequently. I'm pretty sure it's what happens when the GPU finished a section of a WU and the CPU processes it and serves up the next one

silver wing
#

The Oxford COVID-19 vaccine human trial started today, hopefully in a few month time we'll know if it works and is suitable for wider use

brittle coral
#

@agile edge did you just do a fresh install 7.6.9 client?

#

i ran into some issues with that client as did others

#

which required deleting /data/ (full reinstall) to 7.5.1 before installing 7.6.9 over it if you want the latest version. otherwise just revert it to the previous and it should detect properly

#

in my instance it wouldn't show the GPU detected properly even, and it def wouldnt let me add slots

brittle coral
#

hey everyone remember how i've been whining about 1 454* and 1455* series WUs performing like shit, especially on AMD hardware?

#

they fixed it with 1456*

#

thats the highest i've EVER seen my 5700xt

#

๐Ÿ˜„

#

๐Ÿ˜„ ๐Ÿ˜„ ๐Ÿ˜„

#

in other news im above 5m avg sustained now

#

got my 1060 3gb in the mail

#

didn't know it has less shaders because nvidia has way to many fucking SKUs and they decided nerfing the ram was enough of a difference to nerf the core count without changing the name as well and im a bit salty but at least the 1060 3gb is barely slower even so xD

#

also what does it mean if my slot status says update_core

#

im running 7.6.9

#

great, something is really broken

#

ookay guys, i know it's against the EULA but does anyone know how to delete a WU properly? i can't seem to find the file without deleting the whole /data/ folder in a reinstall and reinstalling the client again without wiping /data/ didn't fix it either

#

its just stuck looking for a non-existent core update which broke my client last time i used it and wouldn't let me add GPU slots without using a work around, which apparently isn't a real work around even now xD

#

the WU in question is 13400 btw

#

it's totally stalled and I don't want to reinstall and delete 2 more WU along with it, gonna be a few hours wait otherwise

#

update: apparently if a WU won't finish before its expire deadline it's okay to delete it (and reconfigure the client to prevent it happening again after) but yea idk how to receonfigure it to prevent this happening

#

i found the folder where it's supposed to be and wiped it but it just re-downloaded lol

#

oooooh

#

i see

#

theres apparently a new client that isn't easy to find

#

v0.0.3

#

idk why im getting WU for it though.......

#

i can't find the download for this client anywhere and im not running the beta flag

#

ugh google why

#

it keeps excluding the version number from my search

#

this is a beta version of the newest core

#

apparently

#

welp, managed to break something else and my client wouldn't work anymore so i wiped and reinstalled Y_Y gdi

#

i stil lcan't find any info about where to download this magical v0.0.3 client

brittle coral
#

btw another thing

#

these new WU that are performing extremely well on all hardware seem to use a LOT of ram FYI

#

this is a snap shot of when the WU dumped data to disk and moved to the next step. previously it was using the same ram as the last WU

#

now it's using a bit more. both started around 1200-1500mb i can't remember exactly.

#

this system has 16gb of ram so it can handle all 3 GPUs using this much, but on my main system while gaming even with just 2 GPUs i was getting BSOD from memory management errors since firefox also uses like 3-4gb when i have my usual tab load open (its a lot) xD

#

now i have 32, finally came, but yea it can be a problem sometimes now

brittle coral
#

also, apparently the frame buffer is a performance limiting factor on the 1060 3gb

#

its using 100% frame buffer while the 6gb card is using 60% of its 6gb

#

er of whatever its frame buffer is rather, i forget what the buffer size is (different from the memory)

#

idk why it's even using frame buffer but then idk how to make software like this

wide vortex
#

Hey everyone, I think I'm in the right chat. I wanted to see if anyone could give me some help, I am trying to do the folding at home. I've looked through the LTT Forum and can't find a fix, I was wondering if anyone knew why my GPU isn't showing up in devices for folding. I have a i7-4790k, 16gb of ram, a gtx 1070 and a 4tb hdd for reference, thank you!

coarse citrus
wide vortex
#

I also looked in the system info tab and it's listing that I have 0 GPU's?๐Ÿคจ

coarse citrus
#

Should look like this but have cpu listed also

#

I only fold on my gpu

#

Id doesnโ€™t mean how many

wide vortex
coarse citrus
#

Should show up here

#

Ok for you click the add button

#

Select this and hit ok

wide vortex
#

It

#

it didn't make a difference for some reason

#

even once I saved it and closed and started it back up it only shows the cpu

brittle coral
#

yea

#

so

coarse citrus
#

Hmm odd

brittle coral
#

thats bugged

#

if you scrolled up a bit further you'd see me talking aboutr it

#

you need to reinstall to 7.5.1

#

and then install 7.6.9 over it

#

after opening it once

#

if you don't open it it won't populate the slots in 7.5.1

#

once you've done that it should load properly

wide vortex
#

I'll give that a try, thank you very much

brittle coral
#

yea google for the 7.5.1 download if you need it

#

they have the old ones posted and you can also find it on other sites

#

unfortunately i have not heard from anyone here all day about my issue i ran into as you can see xD

#

if anyone gets a wu 13400 for client v0.0.3 let me know

#

im using the client-type : advanced flag for my client for context

#

it shouldn't be giving beta WUs for beta clients, and even then the latest beta is 7.6.11

#

not 0.0.3

#

they're talking about the brand new core they're working on xD

#

guarantee it

wide vortex
#

I haven't read up on it to much, I just recently found this and thought I should give it a shot :/

#

having a hard time finding the F@H 7.5.1

#

I scrolled up a bit and it seems like lots of people are having the same issue

coarse citrus
#

Give me a sec I still use 7.5.1

#

Iโ€™ll post my files here

hushed bobcat
#

I just looked and I have 7.5.1 for Both Linux and Windows

coarse citrus
#

one sec im about to post a google docs linked with a copy of my F@H 7.5.1 files

wide vortex
#

appreciate it ๐Ÿ‘

hushed bobcat
#

I think I'll just stick to 7.5.1 for now

#

the only thing that was broken was the Protein Viewer

#

and I don't care about that at all

coarse citrus
#

make a file called FAHClient and post all contents into it

wide vortex
#

thank you

coarse citrus
#

NP

hushed bobcat
#

Wouldn't it be easier to just upload the installer?

coarse citrus
#

i dont have the installer but i have all the files so why not

#

just easier for me to upload a copy of my 7.5.1 than to dig around the internet for a sketchy installer wher here you can at least see these are F@H files

hushed bobcat
#

I can post my copy of the installer

#

I have them for both Linux and Windows

#

well i have FAHClient for Linux

#

unfortunately the only PC with all 3 files for Linux has a mouse pointer problem

coarse citrus
#

@wide vortex you get it working

#

?

wide vortex
#

working on it

hushed bobcat
wide vortex
#

I'm just gonna work on it later, too tired rn for it, thank you @coarse citrus @brittle coral @hushed bobcat for you're help, much appreciated!

hushed bobcat
#

unfortunately I dont think I have a way to prove I didn't tamper with it in some way

wide vortex
#

It's alright

coarse citrus
#

more likely to get a legit copy here on discord than a random website

wide vortex
#

I believe it

brittle coral
#

hey i was afk doing an amazon box return, np @wide vortex

#

i got an alphacool waterblock for my loop im planning when i shoulda got the corsair, it just wasn't on amazon, but turns out they have amazon pay

#

i basically don't do returns when i can't go to a box rn

#

i bought into the corsair proprietary RGB gear already, i just didn't think they made an AM4 block at all xD i was hella confused

onyx canopy
#

holy shit

#

255k

brittle coral
#

yea

#

waht about this

#

all the new WU that came out today are like that

#

๐Ÿ˜„

#

thats a 1060 3gb

#

also yes, the PPD is lit

#

the 2060 is idle cause im moving some cards around in 45m when the 1060 3gb and one of the p106 finish but this is the 980ti

#

cant show you the 5700xt because im in witcher 3 and its low af rn XD

onyx canopy
#

haha

#

corsair rm 850

#

vs

brittle coral
#

3.456v yikes

onyx canopy
#

Lepa maxbron

brittle coral
#

who tf is lepa

onyx canopy
#

3.5 at some point

#

it's enermax

brittle coral
#

lol what

#

enermax usually makes better stuff than that

#

they have units that score alongside high end seasonic units

onyx canopy
#

my pc basically rebooted for no reason

#

like psu reboot

brittle coral
#

i had one for years before i accidentally killed one

onyx canopy
#

it was a bronze one

#

with the worst fan ever

brittle coral
#

Yea im wondering myself if my thermaltake toughpower 750w is going bad (gold)

#

i haven't looked inside it to see what it's condition is after like 5-6 years lol

onyx canopy
#

what are your voltages ?

brittle coral
#

its probably time to look at getting a seasonic 850w or RMAing the ax1200i

#

uh the corsair app only has 12 and 5 cause im using a molex to power my commander pro

#

idk what app to use for 3.3

#

im sure i ahve one installed

onyx canopy
#

use hwm

#

but you need a mb which supports it

#

not all do

brittle coral
#

hwinfo64 prob has it

onyx canopy
#

I mean a friend of mine can't see the voltages

#

he has an entry level mb

brittle coral
#

this is an aorus elite x570 board

onyx canopy
#

yh its fine

brittle coral
#

it should have voltage monitoring of some sort or imma be salty it was $200 xD

onyx canopy
brittle coral
#

my first one was $300 and it had pads on the board you could tap into

onyx canopy
#

my mobo is a z97 extreme6

#

top notch for haswell refresh

#

2015 golden intel era

#

gpu performance increase a lot compared to cpu's over time

#

Single core I mean

#

cpu have way more multithreaded perfs now

brittle coral
#

yea hwinfo64 has it

onyx canopy
#

but only +25% the course of 5years

brittle coral
#

thats some of what it reads out, theres a shitload more

#

for other components

#

look at that 3.344v tho xD

onyx canopy
#

you have good voltages

#

its fine

brittle coral
#

yea lol

#

this PSU is still rock solid

#

im p sure it was the client triggering some kind of driver crash that was shutting the system down instantly maybe

onyx canopy
#

my lepa lasted 5years

#

f@h killed it haha

brittle coral
#

or the mild boost OC increase somehow hitting a temp threshold

#

if it's the CPU hitting threshold and shutting the system down imma be salted because i have most of my waterloop parts here

#

but i had to return my RGB block xD

onyx canopy
#

rgb block --'

brittle coral
#

i thought corsair didnt make an AM4/115x block

#

the one i ordered uses my motherboard header but the AORUS RGB software is shyte

#

doesnt work

#

was causing other problems so i uninstalled it

#

was conflicting with my mic somehow

#

......

onyx canopy
#

I have a sound card tho

brittle coral
#

this is apparently super common

#

yea i have multiple USB devices

#

for audio

#

my mic is a blue yeti

#

but my 2i2 hasn't had issues afaik

#

though i wonder, there is another issue i've had with it i wonder if it's related XD

#

I may buy a different board for my next upgrade and take a risk with ASUS (order via amazon for easy return at local box) and then i can cross ship myself a different board if i have issues when I do. gonna be a few years tho, so im sticking with the corsair commander pro and lighting node pro using iCUE software since it's fucking awesome and if i get my ax1200i replaced it'll tap into that software as well seamlessly ๐Ÿ˜„

onyx canopy
#

asus for aura ?

brittle coral
#

idk what theirs is

#

it comes on their STRIX boards

onyx canopy
#

I think it's Aura

brittle coral
#

if my fans outlive this board it won't matter anyway XD

onyx canopy
#

I don't think you need to change psu for now

brittle coral
#

and idk corsair may make hardware to convert the XC7 for the threadripper socket too

onyx canopy
#

unless you're limited for your graphics cards

brittle coral
#

im considering getting the entry level threadripper in a generation maybe xD

#

thats what im wondering

#

in theory im fine

#

my voltages are solied

#

i have 3 of the 4 6+2 populated

onyx canopy
#

what's your psu's power ?

brittle coral
#

as 8 pin

#

750w

#

i should have like 150w of overhead left

onyx canopy
#

750w gold ?

brittle coral
#

yas

onyx canopy
#

I think you're close to the limit

brittle coral
#

yea the last 8 pin is supposed to be 150w tho

onyx canopy
#

yeah but

brittle coral
#

i dont have all my drive plugs used

onyx canopy
#

mobo draws 75w

brittle coral
#

i know

#

ive accounted for everything in this

#

it probably is the PSU tho

#

thats tripping

onyx canopy
#

what kind of issues ?

brittle coral
#

shut down to black

#

straight to black

#

power off

onyx canopy
#

and restart

brittle coral
#

no

#

just straight to black

#

xD

onyx canopy
#

I mean

#

my faulty (end of life) psu was powering off instantly and then the pc woud start again

brittle coral
#

im only at 450w (max, most likely less) from plugs plus 150w from board, plus 105w for the cpu rated TDP, its def near limit

#

ram ect

onyx canopy
#

but it might have been a temp issue in the psu

brittle coral
#

3 fans

#

i doubt it

#

it has cool air

#

direct from outside

onyx canopy
#

I mean in mine

#

was cool air too

#

from outside

brittle coral
#

bottom of case intake only bottom of case is 4 ft in the air by a window

#

outtake is still cool

#

nah nvm outtake def is warming up lol

onyx canopy
#

Same but I guess I had temps / voltages issues hah

brittle coral
#

i hadnt checked that

#

im going to duct tape a temp probe right there

#

the commander pro came with 4

#

i was gonna use them all for the water loop but i think i'll use one for PSU air xD

#

holy shit yea

#

i never cleaned the removable dust filter

#

doing that XD

#

it was bad

onyx canopy
#

Ye defo

brittle coral
#

remember when i did all the side panels from the rad cases

#

same shit dif filter

#

missed this one

brittle coral
#

rip when i shuffled cards around, even tho some of the slots stayed identical it deleted the progress on the WUs i was on and sent them back unfinished lol

#

everything is happier now tho

#

more airflow to the cards that need it and a 3400 and 4000 rpm fan respectively aimed at the bottom 2 cards as well xD

brittle coral
#

@onyx canopy hows the new PSU treating ya ๐Ÿ™‚

onyx canopy
#

I was resting

rich depot
#

folding is just bitcoin mining.

#

change my mind

onyx canopy
#

Oh man you moved and now it's gone

#

@rich depot it's Bitcoin mining less the Bitcoin and less the random difficulty

rich depot
#

well this is my opinion

#

i think folding is a plan for companies to use them for bitcoin mining

limpid lichen
rich depot
rich depot
#

I wouldn't recommend it

#

Folding takes up system resources that could go to streaming and games

onyx canopy
#

@brittle coral no shutdowns so far ! better cpu temps as well

#

moving gpus can affect airflow a lot

#

I experienced some issues as well when I moved my fans

brittle coral
#

right lol

#

i only did it the way i did because the 2nd rig wasn't up

#

shoulda done it when i set it up, then it woulda been one rig worth of actual downtime, the other wasn't technically up yet then xD

#

@rich depot nice yea i saw that yesterday, it's dope

#

@rich depot im emailing the guy with the 2080 ti FTW3 ultra for $900 to ask if he has a receipt for it so i can register it for the warranty xD

brittle coral
#

i'mma sleep y'all. wish me luck on the receipt for that 2080ti ftw lol

rich depot
#

GL

brittle coral
#

btw i was wondering, you've set up the part of the client that lets you track all of them from one client yea?

#

right now im just using VNC but it'd be nice to have a master client set up

#

i'll have to ask you about it when i'm not dead tired lol

agile edge
#

FAH finally recognized my GPU

#

Also looks like they finally fixed the protein viewer, which is awesome

brittle coral
#

oh dope

onyx canopy
#

yeah they fixed it

#

it used to be a demo

#

I should be 4digit tonight

brittle coral
#

yay

#

right as im abvout to conk out my rig goes straight to black again @onyx canopy

#

glad i caught it and rebooted it xD

#

im gonna look at some temperature logging that saves to a file before i sleep me thinks

onyx canopy
#

imo its the psu

brittle coral
#

yea but

#

my cpu is also running at 89c loaded

onyx canopy
#

strange that it doesn't reboot tho

brittle coral
#

and its not 100% cpu load

#

thats why idk if its the PSU

#

cpu shutdown isnt reboot

onyx canopy
#

cpu shutdown is bsod

brittle coral
#

any thermal shutdown is straight to black

onyx canopy
#

or freeze

brittle coral
#

not necessarily

#

thermal is straight to black

#

always has been

#

ever since i started on my 478 socket pentium 4 xD

onyx canopy
#

never had temp issues on my cpu :)

brittle coral
#

i forced PCs to do it in classes for people to demonstrait it happening xD

#

yea well this is the stock cpu cooler

onyx canopy
#

eventho I hit 85ยฐ at full load lol

brittle coral
#

thats why i want my damn loop already

onyx canopy
#

you know

brittle coral
#

i could repaste it i guess

onyx canopy
#

a noctua could do the trick

brittle coral
#

it'll only be there a week or so

#

did you see the pic of radiators im using?

#

a noctua is a kids toy in comparison xD

#

anyway, back to bed

#

but im salty

#

idk if any of my stuff has logging either, ill deal with it when i wake up

onyx canopy
#

noctua nh-d15s :)

brittle coral
#

i know ๐Ÿ˜›

onyx canopy
#

its not a kid toy

brittle coral
#

one of my friends has one

#

and yes

#

its a kids toy

#

in comparison

#

xD

onyx canopy
#

I mean

#

physics

brittle coral
#

yea

onyx canopy
#

it's not about water

brittle coral
#

and im talking about 10x the surface area

onyx canopy
#

its about dissipation and fans

brittle coral
#

to cool

#

with many more fans

onyx canopy
#

360*45mm?

brittle coral
#

one of my rads is a 60mm 120x2 and it performs as good as my 120x3 30mm

#

and no

#

80mm 360 2 of them

#

i ahve

#

but im only using one of the 80s

onyx canopy
#

ok then its a kid toy LOL

#

do you have a case big enough ?

brittle coral
#

along with the 120x3 and the 120x2 60mm

#

yes

#

stacker 935 with 2 915 modules

#

i could put all 4 rads in again if i wanted

#

and another of the 30mm ones

onyx canopy
#

80 360

#

2 of them

#

in one case

#

wtf

brittle coral
#

this case is 3ft 6

#

okay

onyx canopy
#

E atx

brittle coral
#

no

#

its

#

3 cases

#

its a haf stacker 935

onyx canopy
#

wt

brittle coral
#

its modular

#

2 itx modules

#

that have 3x120 mounts on either side

#

so its through airflow

onyx canopy
#

this thing

brittle coral
#

exhausts outside the main case

#

yers

#

except i put the big one on top

#

water is heavy

#

rads are heavy

#

it was top heavy af

#

so i moved them down, theres 2 modules

onyx canopy
#

you can remove the front bay as well

brittle coral
#

gutted

#

yea

onyx canopy
#

I guess ssd on the side pannel

brittle coral
#

no rig in them

#

its all for rads

onyx canopy
#

wt

brittle coral
#

i tried that once

#

dual loop

onyx canopy
#

is it like

brittle coral
#

i had a 60mm 2x120 in one
