and I went on the forums that it said everyone has problems on that server too
pepehands
yeah it said 24 earlier not sure why it says 23
its not for today
or tomorrow
should have nvidia 3000 series and ryzen 4 Q4'20 or Q1'21
you mean if there is a Q1'21
my mother was tested negative after showing symptoms so i should be fine.
ok serious talk
I can't fold anything anymore
my computer instantly reboots
time for investigation
im still fine for now
my computer is suprisingly quiet for being at almost full load.
T-5m
if only folding could earn me bitcoin...
lol jk
so if your having issues you could always boot into safe mode
Finally seeing a full salvo of WUs!
nice
That's what you get when you have a lot of hardware lol
Actually not as much as you'd think... sniping ebay and various sales
This is two systems without CPUs folding
ooh you set it up to monitor other rigs out of that client?
Yeah
somtimes the calculator is way off 2days (recalculates)-> 40 minutes.
2x 1080, 1x, 980, 1x 2060, 1x 2070
If I get a steady feed of WUs I get 4.3-4.7m PPD
Wanting to up that to 5m on just the folding server when I get my tax rebate
once im done with my school work im going to kick my system into High gear...
Nice!
1% Gpu usage.. how do I enable the GPU rendering? lol
like no, im serious how do i enable it?
Do you have a GPU slot enabled?
I broke it now, i need to reinstall the program...
@hexed junco configure>slot?
nope
how do I restart it?
HOLY SHIT
and its only at 45%?!
wait i just realized that my Cpu is doing 1 Work Unit for an estimated 16,615 points...
what work unit am i doing?
nevermind..
thats the stat for the GPU lol
think i might just switch over to just the GPU
41 minutes for 700 points? or 1 hour for over 16K? however will i choose?
ill let the CPU finish and ill switch over to just the GPU.
GPU folding is miles ahead of CPU folding
You should be folding for LTT Teamπ
Also keep in mind there are jobs that only CPU's can do and everything helps
oh. Ok.
Would be nice to CPU fold if the servers actually gave me WUs consistently
Also also once you're eligible for the QRB, that 700 CPU job will be around 150k points
Just a guess
Still going to switch over because my system is getting kinda warm
Sorry 150k PPD
QRB?
well I donβt have the pass key for the ltt team apparently...
Passkey is personal
Oh ok
It's tied to your username and email
The LTT folding team key is in the chat description up at the top (223518 if you're too lazy to look up)
hey it worked... 2782621PPD guessing thats for the whole group...
i get more cpu WU's then GPU atm
CPU t-24m Gpu t-48m...
if you want your system to put out a bit less heat you can reduce the number of threads F@H uses for your CPU
its the GPU, my cpu puts off very little heat...
i think for your system i would recommend 16 threads
ok changed.
it probably wont apply until your next WU
but that should leave your system a little more free to do other tasks, like gaming
ill just have to finish this one, time to turn the ac unit on, lol jk i dont know how to set up sub 0
but i do have an ac unit in this room
although i probably shouldnt turn it on with my system running at near full capacity
I fixed my pc so now I'm folding again :)
I think i qualify for the QRB...
i'd say so
should i take off my sidepannel?
wait nevermind its probably better if the heat is forced upwards
If you take off your side panel and your temps decrease, that means your case doesn't have enough airflow
K
when I take my side panel off I only lose about 2C in temps
if only i had a good system tray... wait i got it...
there. Itβs now sitting on a marble slab.
huh, my temps are better now lol
wow down 5C
ok then
was it on a carpet
also raising the feet might help
but more dust accumulation
any flat surface would do really
Nice
Human trials starts next week
do we know if folding directly contributed to this trial vaccine?
I don't think so
Are the P106-90 (GTX 1060 3GB) worth getting over the P106-100 if I can get them at about 1/3 the price?
for folding?
probably
hmm yea, it's a P106 die but cut down to 1050 Ti CUDA core count
rather than using the P107 in the 1050 Ti
much less attractive
oh well
its probably some of the best performance you can get without a PCI Express Power Connector
I only see 3 nvidia cards that have more FPP than a P106-90
GTX 1650, Quadro P2000, and Tesla P4
P4 is still $2k USD used lol
ohh and the T4
i was going to say the M4
but the FPP of the M4 is kinda junk
1786-2195
if you could shove like 6 or 7 in a system
b/c they are single slot and dont need external power
that would probably be worth what? 1.5-1.75 mil PPD?
just based on the 1050Ti numbers
might as well just buy a 1080 Ti
about 5m PPD
with 8 P4's?
for 75W ea thats pretty sweet
yea
it was a demo server not being used, happened to still have it during the 2019 folding month π
it got used
cant wait till covid 19 is gone and i can buy used parts
Maybe a glut of used hardware when people stop their WFH?
That or companies keep WFH and they dump their used workstations on ebay.
it appears that my psu fan was disconnected
thats a new one....
at least I took the time to remove the dust
"The new version allows the donor to express their preference to fold COVID-19 WUs."
SI, I has it
And high priority. Although TBH I just chew up whatever they give me
Is it possible to designate a specific CCX to do F@H?
Thinking the inly way to do that is through a VM
Process Lasso might be able to do it
one way I can think of, if the CPU supports NUMA is to declare a start up script for the software to select the CCX node to use. I have to do that with darn civ 5 because that game hates my threadripper.
It still works
What OS and web dashboard does the Folding server run? I love it!
@silver wing p106-90 is a GTX1060 3gb
they're worth using they perform the same as one
@silver wing you can get them for $50 new on ebay as well
i paid double that plus shipping for a 10603gb so it'd be easier to resell
i can let you know how they perform vs a p106-100 in a week
wow amazon, you packed 3 of the same item from the same address into individual shipping boxes, when you could have fit all 3 in one box
it wasnt until the 4th box that they included something else xD
so im still waking tf up and watching youtube and it puts me on LTT's RTX overclocking video basically 2nd after i watched a fluff video for that $34000 audio setup lmao
which is perfect since imma be tweaking this 2060 in a bit
Is anyone free to help me?
My FaH has tried 12 times to send this unit but I definitely have internet connection
its not you its most likely the servers.
so do I just hold the unit for now? It literally is waiting longer than the time it takes to make a new unit
Collection Server 52:224:109:74
yea its just the server, thats a totally different IP lol
It sucks that the only help I can do is hold the unit lol
Damit Linus add more HDDs to that server
is that the LTT one?
Not sure, but regardless its Linus's fault!
hey now they're trying really hard xD
wow
this video they literally had power supply issues
to the PSU
they rolled in a special power delivery system on a damn cart xD
but... whhhhy?
because they were hitting 112v 60hz with droop
under load
and it was crashing their rig
or f*ing their power state up caue they couldn't draw enough xD
that sounds like EVERY bad idea at once
they're already using subzero cooling on their 2080ti and 9900k
xD
they are having to cram shop towels on the rig to prevent condensation
and fans to keep the air moving to move it away
and they had to paperweight a few
XD
they got 2nd on the leader board tho for that vid, in 2018
wouldn't the towls conduct?
yes but its better than having it drip right onto the board and short it
the idea is to soak it up and keep it above the board
ughh my corsair and noctua fans need to get here xD
im using QL120s cause they PWM to 2200rpm and then i found a matching noctua for the radiators that won't be visible or for pull fans on the top of the one rad in the top of the case which is gonna have corsairs on the bottom xD
my new UPS came in but I've been trying to get a solid 24 hr nonstop folding draw and i dont want to unplug yet ;?
thicc boi
@stark bough mine only shows a demo, any idea why?
@stark bough looks like a SARS-CoV-2 spike crown
@rich depot the viewer was broken for awhile the newest version has it working again
ugh
such ram timing problems
my 2600x does not like the XMP profile at all cause its memory controller isn't as good as the 3800x (this was a known issue)
thankfully the first kit of this ram I bought was actually for a friend, with a 2600x, and he had the same problem so im copying his wide but stable timings profile to get it working lmfao
to get it working at 3600mhz to be clear XD
if i had just stuck with the default frequency timings i'd be at 2133mhz but i'd have finished a WU on the 2060 by now lmfao
but i need that ram bandwidth
I was planning to set up a ramdisk and redirect the /data/ folder for F@H there xD
it got so bad for a sec tho with the bios that even taking the battery out wouldn't post the board with that ram, I had to shut down my 8350k 3gpu folder to pull a stick of ram to post the board with to reset the profiles
im still not done so if anyone else has some 3600mhz g-skill RGB stuff with the hynix CJR dies and has a nice profile for it lmk
the kit is G.Skill Trident Z Neo Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin RGB PC4-28800 DDR4 3600MHz CL16-19-19-39 1.35V Desktop Memory Model F4-3600C16D-16GTZNC. great kit, we have 5 of them between me and my friend now
1M away from top 10 000 in LTT !
with 1M4-1M5ppd I should be able to reach top 10k by tonight (8.26 A.M here)
before midnight if I have back to back wus
@brittle coral The P106-90 is only 768 CUDA cores which is the same as a 1050 Ti, 1060 3GB has 1152
2.3 TFLOP vs 3.4 TFLOP, P106-90 is faster than a 1050 Ti though just not quite a 1060 3GB
really? what i read said it was the same
weird lol
people lyin to me n crap xD
glad i didn't buy them then and got a 1060 3gb instead
It may very well for mining because of the memory interface and bandwidth
still having issues with this 3rd rig, the NIC is still not recognizing and the driver installers i put on a USB weren't working how i thought they would so im back at my main PC downloading stuff xD
going to buy a replacement GPU setup for me gaming system first though
kinda want to keep to dual GPU cos the case is so huge and it looks better... lol
was wondering my one of my computers was getting 89-110W on 'idle' 30 minutes after i walked away
It was 'background folding on light'
... why am I on light lll
change the slider
yep your gpu was idle
i gave up, yanked the p106 and swapped the 2060 in it's place
1mppd starting π
and the 980ti isn't choking either
neither one is lol
good thing this board and card are both PCIE 4 cause the 2060 is in a 4x slot xD
at least everyone immediately got work again
yea
thats possible
or they just fixed it
and added more
ugh my back is heckin angry again
i have soldiered on after getting the 2060 into the working rig, i now have the bad (brand new) board out of the case and on a newegg box as a non-conductive test bench surface that has a raised edge i can let the graphics card hang off of, and im hooking everything up with my 290x as an output lol
whats the best way for testing a potentially dead/unstable gpu?
got a r9 270 sitting in a box. last time i checked it was artifacting, may not have even boot.
was thinking instead of a test bench i could use a pcie 3.0 riser card like this. use a TB3 connection i have, and switch to it instead of tying it into my primary rig.
run it as an egpu from a nuc.
@stark bough i was wondering why is the 1060 in server so loud when folding, then i realized i rebooted the server when i was redoing the cables and because GPU has no power setting persistence, it gone up from 60W TDP limit back to original 120W TDP limit π
@stark bough booting with second GPU is not enough ?
Just donβt like the risk of killing my rig with random cards for the 0.00012% chance it might happen plus an external solution just seems easier to troubleshoot fan issues. Watson might be better for salvaging dead pets but heβs got a far deeper hardware war chest than most of us here
@stark bough use a Core 2 system ? π
wow idk how i missed it, but there a freakin 2060 KO on craigslist here for $100 since 4 days ago that i never saw till today despite looking each day. i really hope it's still available
I guess i'm figuring out a way to riser out one of the 1060 miners and see how it performs in a 1x lmao.
For $100 I'd buy it
GTX 660 with RTX 2060 cooler on it π
Wow Nvidia bought Mellanox
In before Nvidia branded "Gaming" Network cards π
Yea i think they lowered the price
i saw a KO card for more a few days ago
i hope it's not already gone lol
guess I'm gonna sleep and find out lol
also I got a 1060 3gb for $125 on ebay, there's one more last i saw
same seller
he has 3 more, i got the one that sold
i'll LYK what condition it's in you guys can swoop the others xD
theres a bunch of others too though, lots of new listings
i may have the slowest WU possible on my 5700xt but it looks like with everything I've got im gonna break 30m by the time i wake up again.
i am taking it slow
π
around 1.5M points a week if i get the WU's
from a single GTX 1060 6GB limited to 60W
I stopped folding for now
I'll fold again on the 24th
I'm killing my psu
it was already an old one but now it shut downs randomly on full load
it served me well
but it's time to get an rm 850
@rich depot I promise I'll fold a tons again when I receive my new psu !
No worries, the WUs seem a little more stable for me now though which is good
@rich depot fun fact : I'm still folding rn, disabled my cpu OC to reduce the stress for my psu
Nice! Love the dedication
is it normal that my gpu isnt showing up after a new install of windows?
nvm found it
I wonder how much Folding@Home a AMD Threadripper and RTX Titan Super could do
about that much
?
the only way to know for sure whould be to try it
the titan Super doesn't exist, sadly
π
@onyx canopy
you have definitely a better psu than mine !
Seasonic Prime Titanium 850W
so I have a ton of stuff hanging around not doing anything
I could definitely get a little folding farm up and running, depending on what's useful
power is included in rent. only concern: physical space? having enough wifi cards? things running too hot
So uhh I now have to reflash my gpu to a non XOC bios for it to fold, since my XOC bios disables temperature safeties F@H detects that and runs the card at 600mhz core and 800mhz mem
Which means I can only pull 415W of power for my gpu
"only 415w"..... omg what kinda GPU is this?
wow. ok. I was expecting team red. lol
that's a lot of juice to squeeze over those PCIe cables / slot.
on the limits of 2x 8 pin + 75w PCIe slot power
1000W psu
well, technically it goes little over the thing. each of those 8 pins are rated for 150w
And 2x8pin +75W pcie can safely supply 600W+ I can hit about 512W of draw max when I chill my loop
Those specs were made in 1998
1000w PSU makes no difference, 8 pin PCIe cables and the PCIe slot have their limits, push too much juice through PCIe cables and you'll either melt plugs or start a fire
Modern day they can safely supply above the 1998 atx spec
Der8auer made a video on this
curious to see what a thermal image of your cables / plugs looks like at full draw.
not every PSU / cable is created equally.
Seasonic focus gold 1000W psu with 2 separate pcie cable going to gpu (not single cable split to 2x8)
I know that my R9 Nano peaked at like 270+ watts from a single 8pin and the pcie slot like a champ. Which is slightly over the ratings
what gauge wires for the cables?
I wanna say 18 gauge
16 is the safe bet. 18 gauge and if you run too much it'll melt things for sure.
that's at 120v.
FYI I run a car subwoofer amplifier off 2 8-Pins
175w / 12v = 14.5A
i barely see the temps of the wires go above ambient
@tight urchin how much can a 8 pin pcie cable safely handle, know your a sparky
@coarse citrus 8 pin pcie? Amperage or what?
Wattage
Per wire or?
Just for gpu power
at 12v, only 3 power wires, so you're looking at spec, close to 60w per wire isn't it?
Okay thats 12v so "350W" and upto 600W
Dependant on insulation, copper or aluminum, load, etc
and wire gauge
and 18 gauge?
One sec dont have my book on me
i just looked at a 6-pin on a Rosewill PSU
18Ga 80C
Open air non raceway @ 120v 90C max insulation:
18awg - 600W
16awg- 850W
80C is a pretty low insulation rating
Solid and stranded
FAH has my 1080 at 40% utilization. is that normal
@rapid lodge If you're looking at task manager change one of the graphs to either CUDA or Compute_0
π
thank you, sir! I wasn't aware Windows wouldn't pick that up automagically
that's funny.. I'm getting different figures from here
http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/Tables/wirega.html
16A for 18 gauge, and 22A for 16 gauge.
I trust Arya cause he is an electrician as his job
that's per wire though. so x3
Windows only cares about 3D video usage
Its dependant on your voltage and temp
yeah, I think the maths came in just under your figures for 16 and 18 gauges respectively (once you add all 3x power wires)
Yeah but for gpu power 500W of draw is very much in spec for the wires
I mean mines based on 120V
but yeah, if you're getting custom cables made, always opt for 16 gauge if you can.
Depends
I was working 12v for PSU
Fans - 22 - 18
Molex 18
16 for pcie and cpu
Which is overkill...but looks awesome
if this chart is anywhere close to correct, it says 18Ga wire is good for 180 Watts, PER Wire
Especially alternating directions of currents
and remember, volts (output - not input) x amps = watts.
watts / volts = amps
always work on your PSU's output voltage and not it's input (mains) supply.
so 180W times 0.7 would be 126 Watts per wire
A GPU 8-pin has 3 power supplying wires
You count 8 in a raceway
so that would be 378 watts total
even if you're only transmitting over 3?
Yes
induction?
Grey still had current as does sense
good to know.
And in a computer...your not worried about the wires
Your worried about the connector
Cus its only a push-in pin
Which is more likely to be damaged
18 Ga is that 80C or 90C?
Hereβs a 8 pin pcie cable, it says 80c
almost looks like 80c
so thats the same as the 6-Pin on my 430W Rosewill PSU
Yeah this is from a 1000W seasonic psu
Dont worry about wires too much aside from appropriate gauge on a psu. You cant pull enough current to kill em
lol, I don't know, I've seen a few where people have pushed too much and melted plugs / wires.
Eps cables are easy to come by for my pc
Must...have...stronger vrms...
Need more
If i had a maximus xi they might be satisfied...but those are weird af vrms
catch everyone in a bit, rebuilding my Linux install on my Folding rig.
if anyone's got any good guides for nvidia auto fan speed / power levels on Linux startup, feel free to pass them on. lol.
Just ignore the fact I fried something on it
I have a spare Maximus XI hero if you want it
I have a spare psu that I plug in and test fans on it
Itβs base power delivery is fine but you canβt even install windows before it dies,
Bios crashes also
haha
It will just lock up then restart
Sounds like a pain in the rear to fix
not really tbh
Well if you feel like fixing it Iβll bring it with me when we meet up
sup to you
If you get it working itβs yours
thats a hero right?
Yeah
Same one I have in my pc currently
5v Rgb headers are fried also on it
Could be related idk
digi+ vrm tho qwq
besides. my asrock vrms are doing fine. would rather save myself for the overhauled
maximus xii when we get that leak
Yeah faxon
Just uninstall f@h
Install 7.5.1
Then install 7.6.8 over it
Will work I swear
Gn
i already nuked my drivers for video lol
for some reason i didn't have a recent installer so i had to wait for it to download on this PC
i swear i pulled those down already tho xD
but yea im just tryina get 7.6.9 working again xD itw as working fine before minus that one bug, which was fixed on a reinstall on my other rig
if it doesnt work i have 7.6.8 lol
it worked without having to install 7.5.1 under it first
er 7.6.8 i guess is a typo lmao
but yea, when i installed 7.6.9 before i did it over 5.1
@onyx canopy that worked
im just gonna stay on 5.1, the issue i was trying to fix was that when i set it to covid19 preference it didn't let me change it back to everything
ah hell nvm i can just update it for the bug fixes lol
I just fired up F@H for the first time since maybe 2010
I used it enough to find out my system was slow
and noisy
thanks to one of the videos from Linus, I was like hmmm I have two GTX1080's and 2 Ryzen 3000 series just hanging out here
lmao
word
that'll do
should net you a tidy 2mppd or just shy
my 1070 averages about 750k-800k
850 if im lucky
980ti is just ahead of that
the 2060 is balls π its about as fast as the 1080
719430 estimated PPD for just the GPU on my spare desktop
word
what wu
thats on the lower end but then my 1070 hits 650 on the low end
650k
it's just the spare desktop. I've been tinkering with it some. I don't know if I'll keep it ramped up like that or not
I honestly don't trust these Corsair AIO coolers anymore
yeah, I think I do now as well. These things are absolute crap
never bothered using one after having so many customers havei ssues with them when i worked @ frys
vs my water loop i did custom
far less issues
and i had a couple disastrous issues in the past
xD
things like the tiny pumps in them failing
3600 has an h115i, 3700x has an H115i Pro
or the liquid slowly evaporating out and it running dry
I think the H115 has air in it
thigns you can easily avoid by building it yourself with good parts
every once in a while it makes a weird gurgle
corsair even sells some of those
I think I'm done with Corsair
their LED fans are some of the best xD
crap AIO coolers, $150 cases that have a rattle
i needed a new res/pump device and decided to get their XD5 res
its amazingly bult
one of my USB3.0 ports on my 750D's front panel has never felt right
physically, I can't see anything different
I'm a former Cooler Master fanboy
and at half the price
I picked up a CM690 back in the day, and it was awesome
lol i had a 690 II for one of my rigs
i sold it with the rig
i stil lhave my 935 stacker and one of my other haf cases
the CMStorm Scout
never liked that one
I had one maybe 4-5 weeks before launch
I had a nice review written up and everything way before websites started showing them as "available on: "
haf cases always had something over it i liked better lol
the HAF cases came after though
yea but
they did like 4 revisions of the cosmo and storm scout within that time each
of when the HAF cases were their bread and butter
im still annoyed they discontinued those as well UGH
the new RGB ones are cool but i want a side panel fan setup xD
my CM690 with the clear side panel though
and i still use my 5.25 bays
<33333333333
i have a res that takes 2 and i need an internal optical drive for its performance burning CDs
IS7 wasm y first board
and i got the EP45-UD3P x2 for my q9550 and q9650
lol
the ip35 was their last great board tho
from abit
dude. the EP35C-UD3R ? is that right?
DDR2/DDR3 support
i was still on my EVGA SLI board for 939
had 4 DDR2 slots, 2 ddr3 slots
i hit 4.7ghz onn my q9550
My D9GMH struggled
that took some FSB for sure
UD3P kept up fine with that heat pipe tho
haha this was just water
single radiator
4.8 Q6700 on dry ice
one was on a swiftech 3x120 the other on a thicker dangerden 2x120 with push pull fans
bout the same performance
i hit that on water with my 9650 stable long enough to run a bench
HAHA
I went from a Q6700 to an i7-860 and absolutely hated the thing
it was SO HOT
in winter, I had it next to my window, with a window fan pointing at the open side panel
ran that stupid i7 at 4.2 GHz
very toasty
I had it up to 4.5, I think it was?
I built a Phenom II 720 system as a spare system, and it played games smoothly
i just scrapped mine
what was it, fallout 3? I had massive mouse lag at the main menu with the i7, but it was smooth as butter on the Phenom II
its sitting 6 feet from me with a bag of wc fittings on the 890fxa-gd70 board i had with it
I had like 15fps less, but it was smooth and responsive, and didn't shit bricks when I had other things open
sorry
because of the AM2/AM3 MSI boards, I won't ever touch MSI
replacing it with a 2600x
xD
that board was fucking amazing
you take that back
π
I had a 790FX-GD70
when I was working at micro center at the time, it was the one MSI board that didn't catch fire in the service department
MSI VRMs liked to catch fire back then
the board with my 2600k was MSI as well lol
had probably 7 different boards go up in smoke
that board was fantastic
...all MSI
same. gigabyte was my go-to after DFI went away
i went MSI cause they basically traded their juju to gigabyte for a couple years
I went through systems so frequently , I can't even remember what I had in my main systems
I can its more what I did with it when it wasn't anymore that I've forgotten some of
DFI LanParty UT nf4 Ultra-D with an Athlon 64 X2 4400+ at 2.6 Ghz with Patriot XBL+K with Samsung TCCD on a brainpower PCB
237x11!
I had a lapped 4000+ in my 939 board
I managed to hit DDR-640 on that RAM
it'd do DDR-620 at 2.5-3-3-7-1T timings all day
4000+? why tho
I got it in a package deal for $300 or so at an AMD/Microsoft con here in the bay not long before core2 came out
i remember when Core 2 came out
My first was an e5300
picked up a Gigabyte G31MX-S2 and a Pentium Dual Core E2140
Got that chip up to 3.5ghz I think
thankfully I had some Ballistix with D9GMH lol
First oc
ended up modding the BIOS so a new FSB:DRAM ratio was available
jerks had it hidden
it took ages to POST because there was a BIOS checksum error, but man
3.4 GHz on a $50 Core 2-based system? that thing was STUPID fast
I ended up getting an E7200 for a bit
then an E6550 (what a waste of money)
then a Q6700
I went straight to the 9650 from the 5300
then E8400
With 16gb of ram
still have the E8400 here
I was in school doing stuff with VMs
picked up G0 stepping Q6600 to push as hard as I can
I just yesterday upgraded to 32 for the first time
yeah I spent a ton of money back then lol
Cause of how long 16 lasted me
nice. what RAM did you pick up
I had an E6750 for a little bit too
I bought stuff to push really hard, then sell :x
I have a 3rd kit coming for the 2600x and my friend also has 2 kits for 32
I went kinda crazy on the cheap Ballistix Sport LT kits that were floating around
FINALLY just today bumped timings down a smidge
Soon as I get the water loop clean and ready its going in
CPU-Z Validation Checker (by canardpc.com)
amd was doing good right before that, then they hit a rough spot, and then ryzen came along and started shaking stuff up
XD
but that IPC tho
yeah, I regret that bulldozer system
5049.9
it was sooooooooooo hot and sooooooo slow
Well you donβt take construction equipment to a drag race
We discovered something that slipped past NVIDIA and EVGA alike: The RTX 2060 KO performs 26% to 47% better than a normal 2060 in some applications.

It's not just that TU-104-150 is no...
posting it here and in tech support cause idk which channel is better for it but " QUESTION: Does Folding at home cost a lot to run? How many hours should I let it run every day and how long do you guys let it run if you guys use it?"
always wondered about this for folding
the big question is what do you pay per KW/hr
folding@home uses a pretty good chunk of power to run your parts at full tilt the way it does, but if you dont pay piss for power who cares?
the real cost is in the parts itself then
and any reduction in lifespan if you undermaintain your farm and they run to hot for to long
but thats easily avoided with good cooling and aggressive fan profiles
fans can die that sfine
spares are available
i usually make 2 decisions on card buying when i intend to use them for 24/7 compute, and those are what's the price and how good is the cooler, which includes if i can get new fans for it easily or not. gigabyte fans are a dime a dozen for instance, $10 a pop which isn't super cheap but its way better than buying a new card or cooler for a card when the stock one dies
UGH people in huntington beach are protesting newsom's stay at home order like a pack of zombies
we're all doomed here in the US XD
FOLD FASTER GUYS

OMG LOL
That song is also in the same key as katamari damaste xD
damasy* idk im tired and its been 10 years xD
guess what's stuck in my head now
well, im getting more WU now that im set to everything again instead of just covid19
i decided i spent al lthis effort getting the farm running
why am i not just folding for every project still
those myosin WUs also were really interesting
they were related to another project but yea
id ont remember the details ott of my head
was it that super dense block I had earlier?
probably
they are very high performance though on my AMD cards
so i wanted them back haha
vs 14549 and others around it which i wish would die already xD why cant we finish those faster
my nvidia cards all 3 are running 14549 rn lmfao go figure
the dont care
its a bit slower than some others on it but the performance is better by far
920kppd on my 2060
685k on the 1070
755k on the 980ti
the rx580? should be as fast as a 1060 around 360-400kppd
gets like 280k
5700xt?
560k if im lucky
but on those myosin WUs
5700xt easy 950k
ive seen it hit 1m on them
thats why i haven't bought a single new or used AMD card to fold on since i started stockpiling
id love to see a 2060 ko folding benchmarks compare to 2060/2070
i cant seem to win with f@h....
im pretty sure its still running as my points have been going up and the web interface shows its running, but the advanced controls is no longer showing up
stopped showing up on the taskbar anymore
and anyone else having any issues with getting gpu jobs? ive been getting cpu but no gpu
hows this for points
@stark bough i think i missed the $100 2060 ko on craigslist here, no reply π¦
NVM
they upped the price $25 from $100
i just sent them a longer email with my number in it and what im tryina get it for, hopefully they reply. so far putting that im doing covid19 research in the email has gotten me a lot of replies lol
word
yea thats ancient lol
not to bad then i guess
gotta get your im guessing more modern gaming rig also folding π
my vega is much faster
i bet lol
this is worst case scenario on an rtx2060
slowest card is prob the rx580
its got a good wu rn tho
14549 runs slow on everything but it runs ESPECIALLY slow on AMD
my vega is faster than a titan xp
14549 performs terribly
in f@h
5700xts dont compute well
something is off
im telling you
it only uses 50-80% gpu at most
it doesnt know how to optimize for the arch
even on nvidia it's slower than average
i spent a week looking at stats between the rx580, the 5700xt, and a vega 64
yea
obv
the 5700xt is also way faster in double but f@H uses single
which nvidia has a bonus in rn
but mostly, that 1454* and 1455* span of similar WUs just all run slow
im well aware lol
the issue with my f@h
notice how it says theoretical though
the gpu idles about 12h a day
so haveing it there is better than nothing
i have a couple slots on download now
the 290x would be a better card
they use a lot of power
but in game they still have power
also power is dirt cheap
for me
not here lol
ugh USPS being hella slow
good thing i ran into issues with my x570 board
i was supposed to have 2 kits of ram on saturday but i only got one, the one i shipped from amazon
my friend in his infinite wisdom decided "fuck bezos" and used newegg, and newegg shipped UPS which in turn decided to contract that shipment to USPS, so it's sitting at the post office closed because of coronavirus delays in USPS and all the other nosense
even more annoying is they also sent my 2060 that way and even tho i shipped it 2 days later, it got there a day earlier cause i paid for somewhat expedited shipping xD
they just slacked off on the weekend
my NIC wont be here till the 22nd tho so at least they have till then
but yea, i got a board with a bad NIC out of the box, so i shipped an intel pcie-x1 and a USB3 gigabit one both
i should have had them in my test/backup arsenal years ago, its my fault xD
all my stuff for that is like a decade obsolete, from when you could still count on boards having 1 PCI slot for that
reinstalled windows 10 and folding @ home client. The client is not detecting my GPU?
You know work is boring when it's far more interesting to watch your stuff slowly folding WUs
well it detects the GPU in system info.. perhaps it does not show on web control until it gets a work unit
hey
that happened to me today
you need to redownload the older version
7.6.9 has that problem with AMD GPUs it seems
7.5.1 was the previous revision i had
i reinstalled 5.1 and installed 6.9 over it
@vital edge lmk if that fixes it
if you don't have the client downloaded already in that version google should have it
i found it on guru3D while i was looking around about the issue, but had it already in my downloads as well
if you fail to find a working download link lmk i might be able to send you the .exe somehow
this didnt seem to be an issue on the nvidia system so if you're also an nvidia user lmk cause that would be curious
will give it a go at lunch
the most telling part is the roughly 2.5x wu they did to get to that mark
their hardware sucks or they're all CPU folding lol
probably a bit of both
for the peeps whose gpu doesnt show up you can add it manually in the advanced control under : Configure-> Slots-> Add+ then select the gpuyou want to use
yaay
servers not sending me WU again
xD
whole setup is idle cept the 1 CPU slot
@cobalt birch that fix doesn't work for the issue they described. you need to install an older version, its not detecting GPUs correctly in the new one
the fix i described resolves that problem
it's a bug with the 7.6.9 release that just launched
if you install it in place over an existing install the bug won't be present but if you install fresh some people have had issues. specifically i did on my all AMD system, but had zero issues on my nvidia system
@trim crystal this is one of the good WUs i was talking about thats hella fast.
@stark bough
its getting warm in here fast xD
I'm currently heating my room, currently nice and toasty, rest of the house is freezing
the garage was getting warm enough i crammed a box fan in the window like back when i mined in that closet xD
but i have way more airflow now
bunch of blower fans doing fat work
sick my 580 got another wu as well
gonna be nice and cozy xD it was not great
So many many CPU WUs rn than there are GPU WUs
yea
because the people with fast CPUs usually have SEVERAL GPUs xD
and even the fastest CPUs don't make up for it
Surprised how good my temps are despite having the 2 cards jammed up against each other
Top card is at 71C
Bottom is 63
I think the second card may be saturating it's PCIE lanes
According to GPUz its only running at x4 2.0
Probably down the the fact this motherboard is absolutely crap
MSI B350 PC-MATE
Still cost Β£90
My 8Gb of DDR4-3000 also cost Β£90
This was back in 2017
lol 8gb
Upgraded it to 16Gb when the prices came down eventually
i havent had a rig with 8gb since 2009 xD
we were just talking about it earlier
i remember when ram was cheaper too π¦
shit went way u[
Yeah it was back when RAM cost your first born child and half your internal organs
It was 90 quid and it was on sale
lol christ yea that sounds like when it was at its worst
i remember getting 16gb for an intel rig around probably the same time
8350k
im glad i got that ram tho because when i had problems with my board not posting using the 2600x and my good ram, that ram got it to post again long enough to reset it lol
i just got 32gb tho for my main rig and it's pretty awesome lol
what
who
Just wondering if that is a good enough price, $100 less than 5700XT and on average is faster
yea
prob not a bad call
i just missed a 1080 for $200 lol
im tryina get this 2060 ko tho but dude isnt emailing me back and he's raised the price twice on craigslist xD. if he'd stop jerking me around and respond maybe i'd be able to work something out
theres also a 2080ti FTW3 for $800 xD
but the hood it's in tho is like 95% positive to have been stolen off someone's porch xD
anyone get a job for their gpu
Yep, 5/5 GPU slots folding nicely
I have one
@brittle coral Interesting i just got a GPU WU for my 1080 Ti that's using more BUS.
28-30% VS the usual 21-23%
Ahh, I should note that I now limit the power of my GPU to 85%
for some reason it seems to help with my BSOD's
My graphics card is not showing up in fah does anyone know how to fix?
I had a crazy thought today... Could you fold with one of those no video out cards that was made during the Etherium mining craze?
Hello
I am currently trying to render using premiere pro with a 3900X and a 5700XT and to render a 30s 4k clip it's taking 2 hours.
Does premiere have any support for amd gpu acceleration?
Yes OpenCL @solid anchor
do you see your gpu being used while it is rendering?
2h for a 30s clip seems excessive even for cpu rendering
Yeah
Anyway to fix this?
The ram is 32gb clocked at 3200 mhz
and bios set it too
i cant for the life of my get my gpu to fold, i cant add a slot for it
i deleted them all and now i cant add it back
whenever i select gpu and save it it just removes it
no clue what i did but it added now
worth dropping a 290x I have laying around into my system just to Fold? In theory my PSU could handle both gpus and the rest of my system under max load.
its worth it if you want to pay for the power that thing consumes under load
I mean i don't pay the power bill
well, go ahead then
nah my dad's machine shop makes our PCs look insignificant xD
in terms of power consumption
well, the thing is still 350watt under load
