brittle coral
#

that also answers my question though on if i can use a 1x riser or not since i can see how much bus it's using

#

hahaha mobius right, that would be dope

stark bough
#

ive just been doing back of envelope calculations.

#

just installed powerchute so i can get data on my power consumption

hushed bobcat
#

Been thinking about getting one of these

stark bough
#

problem is we got TOU pricing so the price isnt stable

brittle coral
#

i just wish my family would buy a solar system because i know they could afford it but they haven't because they don't feel like investing in something that's THAT long term

#

🙄

#

but yet they keep saying how they are gonna probably retire in this home if possible

stark bough
#

if they're mostly away from 9am to 6pm, and is around for 10 years, it works out

#

awake

brittle coral
#

yea its dumb like they could have done it when we got the house and it would have already paid off, but that was also before a lot of the tesla products that are on the market now which dramatically dropped the price as well

#

now they could DEFINITELY do it no problem if they wanted to make a long term investment

golden fulcrum
#

A framebuffer (frame buffer, or sometimes framestore) is a portion of random-access memory (RAM) containing a bitmap that drives a video display. It is a memory buffer containing a complete frame of data.

So kinda useless really to determine PCIe bus utilisation

brittle coral
#

yea im aware

golden fulcrum
#

surprised they report on it really, as you'd expect if a GPU supports say, 4k or 8k internal rendering, and triple buffering, then they'd simply have a few MB handy to copy the BMP to for display.

Still can't find anything on PCIe utilisation with AMD sorry.

#

AIDA64 perhaps?

#

although that seems more aligned to CPU

brittle coral
#

yea

#

sounds cpu

hushed bobcat
#

HWinfo64?

golden fulcrum
#

That's what I was thinking of. lol.

#

😫

#

failing that, would RivaTuner work on AMD?

storm talon
#

yikes, your guys EI system is still running on cobol?

#

oof

#

I haven't touched that crap since college

brittle coral
#

Afterburner core is rivatuner @golden fulcrum

#

they're the same development base, afterburner is a more advanced fork

storm talon
#

btw guys I had to shut down my cluster

#

:/

brittle coral
#

noooo

storm talon
#

for now

#

I'm running a brute-force on a bitcoin wallet for someone rn

brittle coral
#

ooh ouch

#

wouldn't it be a lot easier to brute force a wallet though if you already have some idea of the password?

#

like if you forgot what it is but you have some list of passwords you used and it can brute force it by altering characters in various ways till it finds the right oje

#

one*

storm talon
#

yea i've been talking with a few of the hashers in here and that seems a route to go, however we have no clue what the password was, and there's 1.5btc in there from 10 years ago

#

Jo helped me find a really nice hashcat clustering suite that I'm using

marble quartz
#

damn

#

how long that gonna take?

storm talon
#

only about 87 years

#

still tuning things up

brittle coral
#

yea im sure with even a little bit of filtering you can get that down to something workable

storm talon
#

I mean I managed to pull over 1000 wu's for ltt in 2 weeks so

#

I literally started this morning with no clue how to use the crap I was using

#

and 8 hours later i'm hashing full power on 2 gpus and 60 cpus

marble quartz
#

yea like how r u going to divide the labor in the cluster

storm talon
#

and growing

#

that's the tricky part ya

#

it's the quagmire. you can bang 50 fat chicks for 100 bucks a piece, or 5 really fat chicks for 1000 bucks a peice

golden fulcrum
#

I had an app that cracked a wallet.dat password before, I've no idea where I put it though, I can check my HDDs to see if I can find it

silver wing
#

@brittle coral What about the FP of AMD is slow? More so than you expect?

brittle coral
#

just the fact that im getting worse performance with it than a gtx1060 in general right now

storm talon
#

@golden fulcrum we paid 800 bucks for a fancy cracker... it sat there on 12kh/sec for 9 months and didn't do nothing

silver wing
#

On what workload? FAH?

brittle coral
#

and the same on the rx580 im getting worse to about the same as a 780ti

#

yea

#

on specific WUs

golden fulcrum
#

I used one on my wallet.dat for ZCL and it took all of 10 seconds

brittle coral
#

but also in general, even at peak output, i'd expect a lot more

#

if we're going based on pure FP performance

storm talon
#

well if you find something, dm it to me, i'm all ears

marble quartz
#

did they use random generated password or what?

golden fulcrum
#

just ran the app with the wallet.dat in the same directory and it output the private key

storm talon
#

no it's my boss who is ... special

golden fulcrum
#

I'll see if I can find it

storm talon
#

and forgot the master key to his lastpass

marble quartz
#

reset the master key?

storm talon
#

it's old af

#

we tried all that

brittle coral
#

@silver wing on some WUs i get over 900k on the 5700xt and even that seems low but on 145** series covid WUs im getting like 450kppd-600kppd

#

and the RX580 is in the same boat

golden fulcrum
#

got a few 1080ti's (or 2080ti's) lol, can always check servethehome.com and see their Deep Learning 10, Deep Learning 11 machines

silver wing
#

Well it'll come down to optimization is still likely Intel based but both Zen/Zen+ and Zen2 have lower FP rate per core than Intel, but more cores to make up for it

brittle coral
#

but if i get a WU for that oxytocin receptor project they have then it flys

storm talon
#

I don't even use my zen cores for folding

#

useless

silver wing
#

So if the workload doesn't utilize all the cores well enough achieved FP rate is lower

brittle coral
#

yea im talking about GPU performance myself

marble quartz
#

lost access to email account?

brittle coral
#

fair

#

yea it doesnt seem like it is

#

the GPU is only hitting 50-80% utilization

silver wing
#

In the Zen/Zen+ microarchitecture the floating point physical registers, execution units, and data paths are 128 bits wide. For efficiency AVX-256 instructions which perform the same operation on the 128-bit upper and lower half of a YMM register are decoded into two macro-ops which pass through the FPU individually as execution resources become available and retire together. Accordingly the peak throughput is four SSE/AVX-128 instructions or two AVX-256 instructions per cycle.

brittle coral
#

according to drivers

storm talon
#

yea jogerj it's a brute force only type deal

silver wing
#

Zen 2 doubles the width of the physical registers, execution units, and data paths to 256 bits. The L1 data cache bandwidth was doubled to match. The number of micro-ops issued by the FP scheduler remains four, implying most AVX-256 instructions decode to a single macro-op which conserves queue entries and reduces pressure on RCU and scheduling resources.

brittle coral
#

is that why my Zen 2 is so fast leadeater?

#

getting up to 135kppd

astral stream
brittle coral
#

i guess i should not expect similar performance out of a 2600x then?

storm talon
#

2600x you damn well better have a dual 120mm

#

cause she's gonna get HOT

brittle coral
#

yes

silver wing
#

Zen2 is twice as fast as Zen/Zen+ for AVX2 which is what FAH uses

storm talon
#

I was pushing 242w on my 2600x when i was folding on all cores

brittle coral
#

it was going to get the stock cooler from the 3800x i got but then i decided to go water and i didn't cancel the 212 black

storm talon
#

and it got to 85c on a single 120

#

good choice

brittle coral
#

so im going to pull the 38x120 5000rpm fan out of the miner thats not used

#

and snap it to the cooler

#

not even going to bother with a second one

#

xD

storm talon
#

push pull it

brittle coral
#

literally no point

silver wing
#

^

brittle coral
#

i dont have a spare fan of equal power

storm talon
#

that's the point though lol

brittle coral
#

5000rpm

#

175cfm

storm talon
#

are you running posi or neg

brittle coral
#

and it has a 1200cfm blower running into the case

#

its open

silver wing
#

2nd fan would just be an obstruction

brittle coral
#

yup

storm talon
#

open

#

hmm

brittle coral
#

any fan i could use would be an obstruction

#

even another fan of the same power

burnt whale
#

if its open just use a room fan

storm talon
#

yea i run closed positive pressure

brittle coral
#

the positive pressure is already to high

#

i can't and get the same temps

#

as with a 1200cfm blower aimed directly into the fins of the 980ti

storm talon
#

it's fun dicking around and talking about all the options tho eh

brittle coral
#

and the p106-100 also loves it, runs 45c load temps

#

yea dude right xD

#

remember

#

i have a stack of these blowers

storm talon
#

106100 is a minng card?

silver wing
#

what you need though is buckets of water and drop dry ice in them in front of the intakes, go for 0C or less 🙂

brittle coral
#

Yea

#

It's a 1060 6gb

#

There's a 104-100 as well

#

1070 miner

#

and a 3gb 106-90

#

dude i want to get chilled water running on my loop some day

#

i need to make a chiller that doesnt use a lot of power somehow

silver wing
#

lol impossible

brittle coral
#

to bad i can't just use my fridge

#

or freezer

#

i have a mini fridge and freezer in here but that would be a good 5-6 meters of extra tubing run

#

i would need to have a chilling loop and a cooling loop for the PC with unified reservoir

marble quartz
#

I thought ltt proved freezer's aren't fast enough to dissipate heat

#

unless I remember wrong

brittle coral
#

maybe

#

ive never looked into it

#

i figured they wouldn't be the best on their own

#

but

marble quartz
silver wing
#

cheapest is those underground earth coolers where you like core drill along and down many meters and you flow and return air/water

brittle coral
#

if you freeze a block of ice

#

with a radiator in it

#

using antifreeze coolants

#

^^^

#

i have a patio out in front of my bedroom though

#

i'd have to first go through the wall, then through concrete

#

dig a trench under the concrete

#

which is the part i dont know how to really do easily

#

i could do the rest

#

i need a carbide for my impact but i could do it xD

#

but the main issue

#

we're about 1-2ft above the flood plane

#

and under us is clay

#

xD

#

i do not mind digging up the back yard tho the lawn is pretty dead

#

and theres more dirt than lawn at this point

#

i could reseed the whole thing with moss and clover and it would look nicer and my mom would probably prefer it

silver wing
#

freezing ice isn't any more efficient though compared to an actual chiller, you'd also likely have a burn rate of the ice higher than you could produce it so could only do chilled for some period of less than a day per day

#

so you might as well just run the chiller for the same length of time

#

with a bypass to rads

#

personally I want to use my server rack as a pre-heater for my hot water

storm talon
#

oops, wrong chat :/

hushed bobcat
#

I want to see folding numbers for this

brittle coral
#

wow

#

thats a CPU alright

stark bough
#

well damn

#

New UPS, owned 5 like it in the past. both on board and software based self test cause it to power off. hard

brittle coral
#

man

#

i found 2 sites that look possibly idk but they have GTX1080s for $89 for 24hrs

#

wondering if i should pull out the protected credit card and order one and see if it's legit

marble quartz
#

no paypal option?

#

also what brand

brittle coral
#

there is one

#

and yea it is

#

gigabyte windforce

marble quartz
#

Or defective cards

brittle coral
#

same price same card 2 dif stores

#

makes me think they're offloading mining hardware

#

not that i'd mind for $89 as long as it works, maybe i'll take al ook at getting into my paypal lol

marble quartz
#

If it's too good to be true

#

Probably is

brittle coral
#

yeaaa

#

but also

#

theres lots of miners of that model for cheap as well

#

in the 1070 and 1060 variety

#

thats the kind i was gifted, windforce 1060 but p106 style

marble quartz
#

They ship from china

brittle coral
#

one of them has an outlook email and the other has a gmail xD

marble quartz
#

brittle coral
#

xD

#

also

#

the card doesnt come up when you search on the site

#

only on google shopping

#

which is where i found it searching

golden fulcrum
#

scam. lol. there's already scam ryzen CPUs coming out of china, and lately scam RTX GPUs too

brittle coral
#

sick

#

xD

#

thanks ochina

storm talon
#

I mean

#

china does knock off knock offs

#

they legit don't care

#

kinda sucks as a western consumer when you buy a set of MDR-V500's for 150 bucks and they show up all in chinese writing except for the model MDR-Z500

#

i'm like bruh

brittle coral
#

ive had to report stuff to amazon a few times cause of that

marble quartz
#

Amazon is amazing i take them for granted too often

brittle coral
#

someone just donate me a generator that can run a 50a 120v/60hz for long enough that i can sleep through it, enough gas for a year, and a rig that has a pile of titan rtx or 2080ti in it, i'd be stoked. alternatively just install more grid power and a 50a from the wall to a distro box i have. then i can out fold the rig LTT built xD

#

mostly im just dreaming tho, bored and need projects

silver wing
#

Just get 3 phase and then switch over to triple single phase 240v output and be like the rest of the world, better 😉

dusky seal
#

well this is a pain :/

#

i have two clients running right now on two different machines, same network, port 36330 tcp and udp allowed on the windows firewall on both machines, all ip's allowed to connect to the fah client and the sucker still wont connect to the remote client

#

double checked ip and i can ping both of them from each other

#

this is why windows is a steaming pile of doodoo 😂

rich depot
#

Sure is 🙂 I've all my linux servers running FAHclient as well and have them all in FAHControl on my mac

#

only thing needed was to open up the port on the linux box

#

and put in the config the IP from where I'm connecting as well as remote password

#

I have another strange thingy though.... I have basically after every completed WU the situation that the client is idle (not receiving work, staying on "Download 0.00%") for hours and hours

#

when I restart the client on the box it often gets work straight away

#

The retry is pretty long I saw, but does anybody else also have this behaviour?

#

too little WU available?

vital edge
#

Not really no. I occasionally get a dip in WU like yesterday. I think perhaps my hardware munches through them so slowly that it will rarely be an issue. An issue for better hardware?

#

There’s some sort of system that allocates the jobs. Not sure how it works. A balance of hardware capability and sharing WU evenly?

brittle coral
#

Theres been server side issues

#

they are getting something like 6tb an hour of data

#

and they haven't figuredo ut the best ways to automate some of the things that need to be done to solve the bottlenecks

#

they are working on it though lol

stark bough
#

mostly im just dreaming tho, bored and need projects
@brittle coral
Dig a hole to China and run a minecart through it to save yourself shipping costs.

#

dig deep enough and you can cheap geothermal power anywhere

silver wing
#

@brittle coral You should prepare for the BOINC pentathlon in May if you're bored

brittle coral
#

hahaha fair

#

what are they doing

silver wing
#

they don't announce the projects until a day or so before due to how BOINC client works, anti cheating

#

but you should get it installed and sign up to the common projects as each one needs and account separately

brittle coral
#

got it, so if i wanted to just focus rosetta it wouldn't help me win the contest much im guessing xD

#

yea i used toh ave accounts for several

silver wing
#

no because it may not even be part of it lol

brittle coral
#

but i can't get into them right now =/

#

i'd rather just fold and run rosetta lol

#

i had over 300m points for milkyway@home

#

#6 team anandtech all time

#

and i can't fucking log in xD

silver wing
#

there's always a marathon event which is a good zero touch one

brittle coral
#

ooh and neither can the team creator

#

if anyone whose had BOINC accounts for milkyway@home or seti or other common ones for years has trouble logging in, lmk

silver wing
#

usually World Community Grid

brittle coral
#

i hadnt logged in since 2014

#

you think if i remade my account using the same email i think i used and name that it would link the 2? XD

silver wing
#

no idea

#

if your account still exists it would complain it exists, which means use password recovery

#

if not, tis broke

brittle coral
#

hah some chud bumped me to 7th

#

he has almost 3m recent average credit

#

and yea

#

its broke af

#

im fucked 😦

silver wing
#

pent event is a really good one to do though, since there is concurrent projects running with different run days during the event, and points per event

silver wing
#

so you can't just smash the marathon and win, you'll place last lol

stark bough
#

2010 nice

brittle coral
#

2009

#

actually

#

thats just the LAST contact with those rigx XD

#

or maybe it was 2010 idk its been so long

silver wing
#

also it's a team event not indv

brittle coral
#

yea

#

i'd probably keep rolling for team anandtech lol

silver wing
#

booo

brittle coral
#

what im one of their oldest members xD

stark bough
#

ok BOINCer

brittle coral
#

friends with one of the forum admins locally

silver wing
#

hands over his zero cares

brittle coral
#

LTT didn't even exist yet xD

#

was cpu running seti in like 2006

silver wing
#

Think I only started last years or 2018

brittle coral
#

yea i was 16 lol

#

i tried running folding@home and it wasnt stable on my rig

#

so i ran seti

silver wing
#

hit top producer for all of NZ and Aus for a few projects 🙂

#

cpu only ones ofc

brittle coral
#

i could bump that up so fast if i could log in =/

silver wing
#

At the time I had 2 quad socket systems going and 24 dual socket

brittle coral
#

the only seriously active contributor is hitting my 3x my RAC from 2010

#

or idk even

#

its been so long

#

dang lol

silver wing
#

yea, crushing it lol

brittle coral
#

yea i just had a Q9550 at 4.6ghz and a Q9650 also at 4.6ghz

#

with 4 5870s

#

and later got 2 7950s

#

then it didnt support my 290x and i stopped

silver wing
#

all during the pent

#

Still country rank 1 for NFC@Home it seems

#

your world rank is 10x better than mine 🙂

#

like almost exactly heh

brittle coral
#

wow xD

#

so yea

#

when the 5870 launched it was the same price everywhere

#

stores and online

#

and i worked at frys

#

so guess who got the very 2 XFX 5870 reference cards

#

then later, i got 2 more XFX non-reference cooler cards with a center mounted fan, right as those came out

#

that was sept 2009

#

to like

#

dec2009

#

basically of the stock the store got in that time due to shortages, i bought half of it before it hit shelves

#

xD

brittle coral
#

alright

#

it was gettng cold

#

so i switched over to milkyway@home on the AMD rig

#

i want to benchmark it for a bit and see what kind of RAC it generates

#

looks like milkyway@home is much easier on my GPU than folding

#

its running cooler

#

hot spot at 85c core at 67c and it has these dips every few seconds in the WU

#

also WUs take a minute and 40 seconds to complete xD

#

some how both my GPUs are completing them in about the same amount of time though lol

#

i think it thinks both cards are RX580s lol

#

im betting there's some kind of config file magic i could do xD

#

seems like it's using 100% of the GPU tho

#

both are pegging 95-100% minus the dips in adrenalin

silver wing
#

Tempted to run LHC and NFS to break in to the top 100

#

but I'd have to stop FAH

brittle coral
#

this rig was getting 1mppd when it should be getting more if the WUs it was getting were optimized well xD

#

i dont mind taking it down to benchmark milkyway@home for a day or 2

#

seems rosetta@home only does CPU work tho and im not having trouble getting CPU WUs so i left it for now

#

i may toss rosetta@home on the 2600x when it gets here though because apparently folding@home runs way worse on zen+

silver wing
#

I'm only CPU FAH atm

brittle coral
#

word

silver wing
#

still hitting ~3m PPD though

brittle coral
#

it looks like in boinc i can add FahCore_22 to the list of programs to suspend for

silver wing
#

oh nice

brittle coral
#

so once i benchmark my RAC on this im going to add that flag

#

and let both compete for GPU time

#

so that when folding@supple fulcrumme sends me shit

#

i can run it

silver wing
#

hopefully that will work out really well

brittle coral
#

hahaha sorry ho

#

thats unfortuante idk how it tagged you i didn't select to

#

yea i hope so

supple fulcrum
#

okay

#

im fine with that

brittle coral
#

i bet that happens a lot

#

in here

silver wing
#

1st time I've seen it lol

brittle coral
#

but yea, i see only one issue being that on a multiple gpu rig you might have it suspend when one GPU has work and the other doesn't and then it'l still idle milkyway

silver wing
#

hmm yea

#

only way round that is a polling script per GPU/slot

#

if idle resume boinc

brittle coral
#

you can do that?

#

how do

silver wing
#

fahclient command, you can get ppd, pretty sure per slot

#

so if zero then no WU

#

probably also a status command too I guess

brittle coral
#

for sure

#

btw, looks like my completion times are not the same on both cards

rich depot
#

how about the base points? @brittle coral are those the same?

brittle coral
#

base points?

#

they are the same for each unit in F@H generally, i dont lose any on the base end

#

when i ran identical cards those numbers were normally always within a few second of each other 🙂

#

milkyway uses double

#

the difference on the faster WUs is because of turbo for sure

#

i have the turbo set to 2038mhz rn

#

averaging 2ghz

#

lol, i thought i got it in time but it looks like it sent me a ton of CPU WUs for milkyway@supple fulcrumme as well only now they're all each on their own core cause theres a bunch of em all running at varying paces even tho they started at the same time xD

supple fulcrum
#

yes and i still get tagged

#

hooray

brittle coral
#

!!

#

i swear im not doing it!

supple fulcrum
#

yeah it wasn't a gaming moment

#

whatever i don't car doe

brittle coral
#

thats starting to bug me tho i have been typing that syntax for days in here and thats the first time its happened, maybe one of my keys is heavy

#

i bet you im hitting enter while hitting shift to do the @ and its tagging it that way because im typing just fast enough to hit it

silver wing
#

@brittle coral FAHClient.exe --send-command slot-info

brittle coral
#

where do i stick that?

#

may have to walk me through it a bit

#

im running on 6 hrs of sleeep each night for 4 days now trying to get a normal sleep schedule and i keep manic working on project stuff till well past when i want to be in bed by xD

#

well

#

at least its cozy in here now

#

i turned the fan down a level coming in the window and im letting the temps build up a bit before i turn it back up for when i go to bed lol, always hotter during the day

#

@silver wing was it you who said to look at bus useage earlier for something else?

#

im just wondering how to read the readout on this

#

i know its in %

#

but is that like, % utilization of the bus given to it?

#

or something else

silver wing
#

In a batch script or powershell and then use task scheduler to run it every like 5 mins

brittle coral
#

got it

#

i'll ask you again probably when i actually go to set it up, not gonna worry about it now

#

idk for sure if im going to even long term run milkyway anyway, i mostly just wanted to bench it for old times sake

silver wing
#

what you have now would at least work if both are idle

brittle coral
#

and put a new name on the board in place of my old one high enough up that i can flex like "yea im still here what up"

#

milkyway never really idles

silver wing
#

FAH....

#

lol

brittle coral
#

yea but i think i can do all i need through the GUI for now

#

mostly, i just can feel my pain meds kicking in and rapidly fogging up my short term memory

silver wing
#

yea, if you're looking for core22 then at least it'll run if both are idle in FAH

brittle coral
#

yea

#

especially since if it isnt running anything the EXE wont even exist 🙂

#

should be easy to figure out, its either running at load or its not at all, now to figure out how to make it differentiate between each GPU

#

if it needs to

#

it may just do it automatically which would be great

silver wing
#

got a GPU WU by mistake checking those commands

brittle coral
#

but i never assume anything is THAT great till i test it

#

hahaha

#

oops

silver wing
#

6 hour eta

brittle coral
#

i guess you're letting it run then

silver wing
#

yea clicked finish

#

little delay on those hashes wont hurt to bad

silver wing
#

nah they idle normally

#

these for gaming

brittle coral
#

ugh. cannabis flavored everclear. tincture xD

#

i am an individual of many scientifically oriented talents lol

#

and yea

#

idk i dont really care, i compute on my gaming gear plenty

#

its extra processing power and i don't have enough income to have dedicated stuff like that

silver wing
#

I got work servers for the 🙂

#

'work'

brittle coral
#

well, i have a bit, but you know

#

nice

#

i need to find a good stay at home tech support job lol

silver wing
#

if I don't ask they won't say no 😉

brittle coral
#

i wonder what kind of performance the nvidia GPUs get in milkyway

#

when the 5870 came out it was the fastest card period

#

and AMD has always had a paper advantage on double compute on the cards that have been supported in milkyway

#

i think the 290x was the oddball out

#

idk about the 390 i'd assume the same of it since it was based on the 290x

silver wing
#

would come down to if it's memory bandwidth performance or core performance

brittle coral
#

its double float performance that matters

#

for the most part

silver wing
#

then likely core perf bound

brittle coral
#

thats what made the 5870 such a milkyway powerhouse for those who ran them

silver wing
#

amd does rather well on memoy stuff since nvidias memory compression doesn't work as well on compute compared to gaming

#

and amd memory compress sucks ass

brittle coral
#

the gtx480 and 470 had 1/8th the gflops double as well

silver wing
#

it's why AMD needed HBM and nvidia didnt

brittle coral
#

which i think was the big factor

#

yea lol

#

HMB is still nice tho

silver wing
#

fury x with GDDR6 would have been so much less fail

#

but timing was not on it's side at all

#

same for vega

#

btw double on basically all consumer GPUs has sucked for ages now

#

7970 much higher than 290X for example

#

And it is also double Fury X which was slower at double than both

brittle coral
#

im curious what kind of performance i can eek out of milkyway@home with these shit f@H WUS (for AMD) that only hit 50-80% GPU

#

theres enough GPU time there for some space research 😄

#

like, if all this fails and we dont cure covid and we all die, were gonna need to look for a place to go! right?

rich depot
#

😂

brittle coral
#

o h shit

#

guess who just got their $1200 from the government

#

im really really tempted to burn it on a 2070 super for my main rig and stick the AMD card in the garage lmfao

#

put all my AMD cards that work in one rig, run a p106-100 in here

#

with the 2070

#

must resist

silver wing
#

lol

#

living in the back of an ally with an RTX 2070 plugged in to the wall being used as a hand warmer

#

"yep this was a good decision"

brittle coral
#

are you kidding, i'd be so cozy

#

steal a 20a worth of power and run both rigs

#

xD

#

the garage is actually bearable right now

#

normally its freezing

#

"freezing"

silver wing
#

next gen barrel fire

#

benefit of working public sector (ish) is strong job security for me

#

zero job risk for me which is nice

#

not even legal here so lol

#

cos that worked out so well

#

weed is easy to spot, everyone moves to meth/P/MDMA etc

#

gj

#

so much better...

#

yep and a ton of stuff is "enhanced" with fentanyl so they can make it as cheap as possible but that stuff is supposed to be lab accurate amounts

golden fulcrum
#

Good news... spare PSU working, finishing crunching the WUs that died last night.

Bad news... lost a ton of points (and potentially the Platinum PSU - still to test).

Now I'm nervous about the Titanium PSU as I can't afford to lose it too.

Pricing on au.pcpartpicker.com was like $600+ for the Platinum, and $1000+ for the Titanium 😮

rich depot
#

F

golden fulcrum
#

No GPU WUs hey..

rich depot
#

I've one of 5 slots going, all GPU

golden fulcrum
#

I'm going to try stress testing again tonight with the good PSU.. if it fail too.. then it fails too.

They're only 2yrs into a 10yr warranty anyway.

spark salmon
#

Sorry guys, How do I check if I won something? I thought winners would be emailed and so I've been sitting on my ass 😦

#

Oh wait, I think I figured it out

#

Oh cool! I didn't win anything but I'm glad a lot of lower ranked people still got steam keys for their efforts. That was a great event!

golden fulcrum
#

huh?

#

won what?

#

and @brittle coral know what you mean. I'd have a working business now if it weren't for the same.

spark salmon
#

a bunch of people who took place in the 14 day Covid19 folding thing got steam keys and I was curious how to find out who.

#

But I found the spreadsheet on google docs

onyx canopy
#

LOL

odd barn
#

ayy

onyx canopy
#

its a long one tho

odd barn
#

How y'all doin

onyx canopy
#

rly good

odd barn
#

My GPU isn't getting any covid stuff, it's gettin myosin stuff lol

onyx canopy
#

it's sunny outside

odd barn
#

It's gloomy outside for me. Was really hoping for warmer weather since my dad's car needs an oil change, but looks like I'm gonna have to wait

onyx canopy
#

its not covid for me either

odd barn
#

indeed

onyx canopy
odd barn
#

that one too, lol

#

Not saying it's a bad thing at all anyway, just the topics alone are interesting in themselves

onyx canopy
#

I want to help for covid but I couldn't get any wu for an hour or so

#

that's why FAH wants to expand

#

the demand is too high lol

odd barn
#

Yeah, but who knows how much funding the government health entity is giving them to do so

#

If I were rich I'd probably give them a few servers of their own

onyx canopy
#

is this a good amd one ?

#

rx 570 ?

#

I think you said that

#

580 okayy

#

how did you get those ?

#

I mean

#

the cards

#

are they friend's ?

#

oh right

#

5700xt is better than 1070

#

for gaming I mean

#

thats why you got one

#

for folding ?

#

you'd only purchse for folding ? Its quite honorable

#

seems on par

rich depot
#

Honestly a 2060 is faster atfolding than a 1080

onyx canopy
#

ye

#

but for gaming a 1080 is better

rich depot
#

My 1080 on water still cant match my cheapo 2060 most of the time

onyx canopy
#

yeah but 2060 on water

#

would kill your 1080 on water :P

#

yeah

rich depot
#

Well the thing is, you're better off spending a little bit more on a 2060 than a older 1080ti if you're power is anything other than super cheap

#

Its an aorus waterforce, no work needed

onyx canopy
#

2060 super ?

rich depot
#

That's folding full tilt with a decent inside temp today

onyx canopy
#

buying used for mining folding is worth it

#

3h30 for 186k

#

mmmh

#

but its not covid :(

#

are you in the us ?

solid anchor
#

Did even non-working US citizens get that stimulus money?

#

That is really nice of the grubbermint then. In Canada there is an up to $2000 / month for 4 months available to unemployed workers due to covid19.

onyx canopy
#

my 2070 has a 1M2 - 1M3 ppd

rich depot
#

I'm not sure tbh, I dont really monitor it per say, like 1.1-1.3 on the 2060, the 2070 seems about 1.2-1.4, 1.6 on some very rare units

onyx canopy
#

nope, not that big

rich depot
#

my 2070 is idle

onyx canopy
rich depot
#

But that is power limited to 80%

onyx canopy
#

depends on the wu

rich depot
#

^^

#

My 2070 is weird though...

onyx canopy
#

ouch

#

I wonder if some wus are only nvidia compatible and others amd compatible

solid anchor
#

My vega64 can blast through wus, assuming it gets any 😦

onyx canopy
#

185k in less than 7mins

#

;_;

rich depot
#

The thing is RDNA is new, it will take a generation or two more to stabilise and optimise for the arch

onyx canopy
#

btw guys

rich depot
#

GCN is much older, and we are already at the point of maxing out what we can get on that

onyx canopy
#

have you seen the new xbox and ps5 ? as powerfull as 2080ti with ryzen

#

1tB nvme

rich depot
#

Same with turing, the only parts that are used atm are CUDA cores, which have mostly remained the same for many generations now on team green

#

F@H is coming back to consoles in the near future

onyx canopy
#

I really hope the new xbox has some windows features

#

so we can dev some stuff for it

rich depot
#

Honestly MS need to just let you use it as a desktop and just pull the bottom out the market

onyx canopy
#

ps5 will most likely be for gaming only

#

I wonder why microsoft went for no boost at all while sony will have an equivalent of nvidia's gpu boost

#

Honestly MS need to just let you use it as a desktop and just pull the bottom out the market
@rich depot every cost would be halved in the component industry

rich depot
#

Because the xbox has more CUs so no need to boost.

#

We need to talk about folding though...

odd barn
#

I have a gigabyte 2060 as well :p

#

Got it for a pretty good price tbh

onyx canopy
odd barn
#

What currency is that faxon

#

Ahhh okay one sec

#

Paid about $303 US

#

Nope

#

About two weeks ago

#

Lmaooooo

#

Yeah, new

onyx canopy
#

wow the ps5 have way less cus

odd barn
#

A place called Canada Computers :p

#

I live in Canada hehe

#

Initially I was going to order it from newegg but it made more sense to me to pay a little bit more for my components and pick them up from the store

#

Especially because some components couldn’t be shipped by newegg at the time

rich depot
#

Been looking on Twitter, seems like they're using smaller chunk WUs to meet the demand of average PCs which are just using CPU crunching. As far as Silicon Valley, EA only knows to be better is to buy their competition or pay huge sums to get exclusive rights(Madden)--whenever I've been offered a job, I quickly walked the other way. Same can be said about Microsoft during the Ballmer days, if you did any opensource work(Linux) after leaving MS they'd have more excuses to demand a code audit--key reason I've avoided job offers related to Windows QA(Vista/7 era) and Office.

onyx canopy
#

whats happening

13:38:56:WU00:FS01:Connecting to 13.82.98.119:80
13:39:17:WARNING:WU00:FS01:Exception: Failed to send results to work server: Failed to connect to 13.82.98.119:80:

#

im loosing credits

#

because it can't send ?

#

wtf is that

rich depot
#

GPU WUs are in short supply due to hourly limits

onyx canopy
#

yh but i'm loosing credits

#

its to send the wu i've completed

#

not to get one

#

the previous one

#

this one

rich depot
#

It could be possible they issued the same WUs out and your WU became stale--it happens quite a bit

onyx canopy
#

I don't think the error would show as "can't connect to the server"

#

my estimated credit go lower and lower

rich depot
#

Just possible they're getting hammered due to the amount of new Folding members, nobody ever expected C19 would cause many people to get into distro-computing like Folding

#

Also the end of Seti@Home has driven up the number of folding users too

onyx canopy
#

faxon

#

look at the collection server

#

its google

#

???

rich depot
#

yep, it ended due to reaching their goals--Seti only had so much data

#

It was in the news awhile back, they finished up all the work units

#

I have no idea

#

Those servers are useless unless you want to get creative with using 4-lane GPUs... it could be fun to run a low-cost Blender render server 😉

#

Most crypto boards were B150/B250 boards

#

E5 v4 CPUs are powerful as is

#

Just to think when I got my Dell PowerEdge via refurb outlet, 32GB was overkill for an E3 v5 🙂

simple swan
#

i get a decent amount of WU's not a whole alot even for gpu some days, but on the bright side i can use my pc this winter as a heater

#

that kinda sucks, but if it can work then less power hungry system heating the house

#

but summer ooft i would die in my room from the heat australia man summer is good but fuck 30+

rich depot
#

In my opinion I'm aiming at a carbon neutral folding, run a rig off solar power 🙂

#

Ground core cooling would be tricky, in the northeast some people have stuck servers in the basement but just high enough to avoid the risk of flooding

#

While you're at it, get heat via geo-thermal too 🙂

#

In my area it would require metal pilings and I'm sure the rocky nature of the land would be a bit unrealistic

#

One way I've worked on cooling is use the ocean via custom heatsink... a floating folding server would be fun 🙂

#

I'm on the coast, may as well make use of the environment 🙂

smoky rose
#

How are we doing today? I heard the fans spinning up as I left home a few moments ago.

#

Fjord is a Norwegian thing.

#

We have had a bad habit of occupying our neighbours.

#

Yep, that's Denmark.

#

Well, to answer that I would have to break a few server rules. :)

rich depot
#

Folding is the closest common ground in the post-Seti era 🙂

#

I remember reading about Seti in Newsweek as a HS student, that is how long ago it was

smoky rose
#

You got a check at least. I'm not getting one. We are pumping billions into bank credits and giving corporations tax breaks.

supple fulcrum

why i keep getting

rich depot
#

😆

#

Got nothing as consulting/self employed doesn't have a pay stub or unpaid until a project is offered/completed

#

Its hard when someone has stolen my identity multiple times... ugh

solid anchor
#

I can leave the folding rig running, but that's about all... everything else is being squirrelled away for the inevitable financial crisis after all this covid19 is sorted out :/

onyx canopy
solid anchor
#

@golden fulcrum uh, the costs to maintain an airliner are /not/ minimal. Like, at all.

#

Sure, but that costs money to put them into that state, and time.

#

Sure. But it is not cheap, and there are a /lot/ of repercussions of grounding large parts of an airlines fleet. Have a look at blancolirio's youtube channel... he's a 777 pilot and goes over some of the issues involved.

rich depot
#

Will using this program on my 2019 MacBook pro be helpful

onyx canopy
#

how fah could give less credit because they have a server issue

#

they need to fix this

#

186k originally, now 149k

#

3h20 of folding

rich depot
#

The points don't really matter, the work does... lets just not pay attention to the points for the time being.

#

At the end of the day we are all being affected so as far as competitive goes we are equal more or less

golden fulcrum
#

I'd just hate to see it as another money grab by large corporations, when their hard working people on the ground floor are getting laid-off (yet a lot of execs are still drawing $$$ in some instances).

We lost our last local car manufacturer that way. mother company siphoned off the money, and then closed down the shop when the govt. handouts dried up.

#

yeah. good point @rich depot back to folding where we can actually make a difference

solid anchor
#

@rich depot The points mean more WUs are completed, more WUs completed means more knowledge is acquired, the knowledge makes the mind question, the questions create more WUs, this is the way.

golden fulcrum
#

this is the way

rich depot
#

But I mean right now, why does it matter how many points you are awarded, we are literally crunching every WU they can put out. Yeah there are issues but we are getting stuff done faster than ever before

solid anchor
#

I know, more points = more WUs done 🙂 It's a good thing 🙂

golden fulcrum
#

lol, and we all want more of both don't we.

onyx canopy
#

ye

rich depot
#

Even now with all these issues, we have 3-5x the number of WUs served than we did in November

#

What i'm trying to say is, If you end up with 10% less points per WU due to server issues what does it matter realistically at the end of the day. The work is getting done, at a stupid high rate

golden fulcrum
#

Did I just get smacked on the hand? a lot of my posts are gone

onyx canopy
#

they weren't expecting such a success

#

so the means are not made for almost 3exaflops

#

I mean 3exaflops of wu

rich depot
#

Very true bloom, they have gone from 30-50k users to something pretty close to 1M in a month. Even a commercial system would struggle to scale that quickly

golden fulcrum
#

ok..... can anyone hear me?

solid anchor
#

Yes

rich depot
#

Yes

solid anchor
#

@rich depot I remember when seti@home exploded years ago, that was awesome as well 🙂

golden fulcrum
#

ok. weird.. 'cause when I scrolled up several of my posts were deleted and I wasn't sure if I was shadow banned or something.

rich depot
#

Yeah, seti is what got me into DC a long time ago

golden fulcrum
#

ok, anyway. apologies if I offended anyone. I'm off. happy folding all.

#

Hey there, my client is stuck on connecting. Is anyone else having the same issue?

simple swan
#

my gpu is un happy with no WU's while my cpu goes ham

#

finally got one for the gpu

smoky rose
#

@normal ridge yes. There are more folders than the number of wu that can be assigned. Just leave it and you will get one eventually.

#

To make sure there are no errors on your side you can check the log. Advanced control. Third tab.

#

No wu for this configuration means what I just said.

marble quartz
#

Yea got no GPU WUs all day today

#

It's one of those days

dusky seal
#

same

#

i think after the cpu wu i have on my server is done im gonna kill the box and move it to ubuntu, maybe that will be less of a pita than trying to get the remote working on windows :/

smoky rose
#

Headless Linux + correct drivers and you are good to go.

dusky seal
#

stuffs all been behaving weird on windows vm... like fah advanced viewer the local keeps just disappearing off the list

smoky rose
#

You are running vms right?

dusky seal
#

yeah

#

might get my other 3 servers up a folding tonight too

#

just a bit worried about having to many servers going full kilt on one measly 15a circuit breaker along with my desktop

smoky rose
#

That's weird behavior. Like fah on that machine dies.

#

Don't turn your stove on!

dusky seal
#

i can still get to the client from web, but the advance viewer is just going to hell

#

who needs to turn on the stove? i can just use my closet

#

😄

smoky rose
#

Hah

dusky seal
#

48 cores of yummy cooking XD

#

and enough ram to call it a waste lol

smoky rose
#

How much do you have and how much gets used?

dusky seal
#

412gb XD

smoky rose
#

How much vram is in use? Or cpu only?

dusky seal
#

the servers dont have any gpu's

#

they weren't put together with this workload in mind

smoky rose
#

So...fah use 1-2% of available ram?

dusky seal
#

im using 4gb on each server

#

16gb/412gb

smoky rose
#

4%

dusky seal
#

the servers are configured with dev vm's, node applications, game servers, and web servers in mind

#

so none of them have gpu's

smoky rose
#

And then SARS-CoV-2 had to cause drama.

dusky seal
#

lol, just about

#

and since how i have them configured, even know i have a few lp gpu's laying around i cant even add them in without having reinitialize the whole system

smoky rose
#

Good thing FAH stepped up with a big ads sign saying "Can't sit with us".

dusky seal
#

lol

#

right now i have 18/24 threads of the one server running fah so i can still have a small game server running

#

and my node stuff doesnt give a crap about cpu usage as long as it gets that little itty piece of a cycle its happy

rich depot
dusky seal
#

nice!

#

Keep on going!

marble quartz
#

actually been wondering how macos fares in folding

dusky seal
#

ive only swapped my hardware over to folding about 5 days ago

rich depot
#

It works fine

#

But I don’t have a dedicated GPU, so cpu only here

marble quartz
#

like I got hackintosh on another drive but macos doesn't support gpu folding so I didn't bother

dusky seal
#

slowly but surely working my way up there

marble quartz
#

yea gpu doesn't work anyways on macos u have to boot camp

dusky seal
#

oof

#

thanks apple

rich depot
#

@marble quartz if it doesn’t, hoe can it be that people on macOS with GPUs running for FAH are counted seperately in a list

dusky seal
#

im trying to hit that 1m mark by Friday

smoky rose
#

What's your ppd?

rich depot
#

1 project takes plus minus an hour

#

Because this is the base model

marble quartz
#

either this page is outdated or idk

dusky seal
#

@smoky rose my one server i have folding right now (not trying to melt and outlet) puts out 16k and my desktop puts out ~300-400k but since i have to work on it too i cant have it running the whole time

marble quartz
#

I tried to boot hackintosh and yep it didn't detect gpu

#

i have a vega 56

dusky seal
#

i leave it cpu folding most of the day since i have windows setup to only allow it to have what i dont need, but gpu is a pain and causes some oofs

#

so i just do gpu over night

#

my poor rx580... im waiting on it to crap out on me so i have an excuse to buy a new one XD

smoky rose
#

I hope this pandemic is inventive enough for Apple, Sony etc too either get or keep support for fah on various devices.

marble quartz
#

rx 580 is still a fairly decent card

#

you can definitely game on it

dusky seal
#

oh it does wonders for me, hence why i wont replace it till it dies

#

i have no reason to

#

heck, i can run gw2 and bdo at the same time XD

smoky rose
#

I had a 7970 go up in flames back when it was cool. I had turned all heat checks off, ran it full tilt for days and the cooler died.

dusky seal
#

and if i leave it running all day it can get about 400k ppd

marble quartz
#

that's on you bud

smoky rose
#

Yepp

dusky seal
#

that poor 7970

fast rampart
dusky seal
#

nice!

#

im still working on that 1m mark

marble quartz
#

I can't afford a new card rn so I'm making the most out of this vega

dusky seal
#

vega56 is a pretty decent card

marble quartz
#

it still beats a 1070

smoky rose
#

I had more waiting to be used. But I stopped macgyvering cooling solutions.

dusky seal
#

whips my 580

#

kinda sucks... i bought my 580 back before 5000 series so it was still kinda pricey since i got the nitro+ se

#

will say the nitro+ se is a beast of 580 though

#

i can clock it up to 1500mhz and its only a bit unstable but can fold fine

#

most games i can run but mmo's tend to turn into artifact central

smoky rose
#

I stick to playing factor at the moment. Heavily single core cpu bound.

dusky seal
#

i have a 2700x so the cpu bound games arnt to bad

simple swan
#

my pc is a very hot boi rn cpu at 95c gonna just run it for 1 WU and let it just go to sleep mode on its own

dusky seal
#

and most mmo's are bottle necked at the cpu

smoky rose
#

But it's a laptop so it shares cooling with the gpu and now that my factory is quite large it is becoming a problem.

marble quartz
#

bruh folding on laptop is gonna be your laptop's demise

#

get fans on there

dusky seal
#

i should get my tuffbook folding

smoky rose
#

I have. Steady 80c max now.

#

No worse than playing witcher 3 on it.

marble quartz
dusky seal
#

my tuff book has the hex core and the gtx1060 6gb

marble quartz
#

like mini blowiematron

#

it's loud tho

smoky rose
#

That's what I use. But I need more than one and/or mod the laptop some. Too many heat vents on it.

marble quartz
#

my laptop only had one so it worked perfectly

#

well with many heat vents this shouldn't have been your go to solution

#

but yea mileage varies

#

I drop like 10C average on max

smoky rose
#

I need to make some kind of sleeve for it.

#

I have some material in a closet but meh

dusky seal
#

ehh, just pop out a few screws and let the beast breath 😛

smoky rose
#

I still need to move the air.

dusky seal
#

i used to compile on a thinkpad that i just took the screws out of and would pop it open when doing compiles XD

#

dropped it by about 5c and made the throttle less

smoky rose
#

That is going to be a problem as ambient temperature rise for each day.

dusky seal
#

my room is usually about 25c XD

#

the servers in the closet dont help at all

smoky rose
#

I've been keeping the balcony door open some. Helps during the night but days are getting bad.

#

No other heat sources running.

#

Do you have any ventilation for the closet or do you use it as a sauna?

dusky seal
#

its vented

#

and has a fan blowing through the slats, but it still turns into a sauna XD

#

along with the rest of my room

#

and i have the window open and ac running XD

#

my electric bill is gonna be in shambles

marble quartz
#

close the window lol

mystic hollow
marble quartz
#

how long has that been going

mystic hollow
marble quartz
#

what's the PPD

mystic hollow
#

typically between 250-350k, as you can see, but that is down to how often i get WU's

I'd go for an oar. Just to make sure.

dusky seal

solid anchor

Bumping mine to 144GB

dusky seal

i dont have a need for that much since i spread everything across all the servers

solid anchor
#

Got that one and a R610 in a ESX cluster atm

dusky seal
#

i have the 4 of mine clustered with proxmox

solid anchor
#

Nice

#

I may have gone with proxmox if it had been usable 15 years ago. I learned esxi and pretty much didn't bother with other systems after

slate lake
#

any of ya'll doing 3d printing for ventilators or masks or anything?

dusky seal

I live next to a microcenter so

My wife works at one of the big hospitals where we live. I have my hands full taking care of the two kids and trying to keep her sane. She xray'd a newborn that died of respiratory failure yesterday.

slate lake
#

😐

solid anchor
#

Yeah, sorry. 😦

slate lake
#

This shit be fucked yo

#

There have been a few cases in my state (ohio) where children as well as infants have died

solid anchor
#

But yes, anything you can find that helps is appreciated by those at hospitals, that is for sure

slate lake
#

i'll give someone the rest of a bed sheet i cut up to make a mask lol

odd barn
#

did someone say something about fitting a server in a fridge

smoky rose
#

Sounds like a really bad idea.

odd barn
#

only one way to let them learn

smoky rose
#

Expensive lesson.

#

I'm all for teaching people to fish instead of just giving them fish. But this is a case of "Come on over here help yourself."

slate lake
#

lol i said stick their laptop in the fridge

smoky rose
#

Same thing different name.

odd barn
#

Lol, I agree

slate lake
#

i was being sarcastic

odd barn
#

I know it was sarcasm, my reaction was too lmao

slate lake
#

😛

odd barn
#

I work at a building with several different hubs for different floors, each hub has an AC unit mounted on the wall because the building itself doesn't actually have HVAC that could have been ran during pre-construction

#

It's kind of silly to me

slate lake
#

my old grocery store has a server room with an ac in the wall.. was leaking until we put a bucket under it ;c

odd barn
#

oof

smoky rose
#

And I'm neuroatypical so sarcasm often fly way above my head.

odd barn
#

I think the AC units were part of cost savings regarding HVAC hardware i.e. thermostat / dampers / ducts would have been more costly

slate lake
#

well it is an old building. so the room was never designed to be a server room

hushed bobcat
slate lake
#

was actually a small "store"

odd barn
#

ahh

slate lake
#

store within a store like wally world

odd barn
#

I know the feel

slate lake
#

you accessed it via the janitor "closet"

odd barn
#

The building im referring to however, was constructed in like... 2018? They're still building it because they've had strikes, and now with COVID, they had to stop

slate lake
#

😛

odd barn
#

Thankfully my part of the job was done for the most part

#

we still have a LOT to do, but we did what we could given the stuff that was happening

slate lake
#

fantasizing about having a job

#

i'd work at a hospital if I could

odd barn
#

I used to work at a hospital, not as a nurse, but I was responsible for the entire buildings security

slate lake
#

so, my last job, I walked around 2 hospitals, took measurements and photos of rooms etc, no one questioned me at all :/

#

I worked at an MEP firm

odd barn
#

ooh

slate lake
#

I had a clipboard

#

I asked one patient in one room and was like "Can I take a photo of your toilet" there like "Come on in!"

odd barn
#

I now work for a company responsible for installing security hardware. I enjoy my job, especially the networking aspect of it

slate lake
#

😐

odd barn
#

LOL

#

I would have been like "do u want me to take a crap now or after"

slate lake
#

lol

#

thing it, it was just one of those wheelie ones not an actual crapper

odd barn
#

ooh.

slate lake
#

i was shocked cause most had them

#

old ass building.. like over 60 +

odd barn
#

yeah, doesn't surprise me

slate lake
#

rural ohio

#

like in one area of ohio.. there is 1 hospital for about 30miles ;c

odd barn
#

I live in a city of 600,000 people (probably 100,000 more than that because of immigration) and there's only 1 hospital with 630 beds

slate lake
#

damn

odd barn
#

Yeah, They tore down the old hospital because refurbing it wouldn't work since everything was below fire code

slate lake
#

ohio has a lot of city hospitals. rural we have corn

#

yeah fire codes kill buildings

odd barn
#

I actually did a hospital in a rural area, about 200 beds, but that was because again, their old hospital was being decommissioned due to several issues

#

A lot of my friends have mentioned that with corona, the hospitals have been rather empty unless people are going to get screened and whatnot

#

before, it used to be very flooded by people that should have gone to a walk in clinic

slate lake
#

yeah a lot of people get sick and have no doctor so they goto the ER

#

all i say to people is get a freaking flu shot

odd barn
#

I live in Canada, where I live there are plenty of doctors in a 2 mile radius and our healthcare is accounted for.

#

People who immigrate here and just go straight to the hospital have to spend $1,000 just to triage, and then who knows how much just to register and see a doctor

slate lake
#

oh I see, yeah if they don't know the system. In the US you goto the ER and spend a small fortune to get a Tylenol

odd barn
#

Yeah, instead of going to the pharmacy and them telling you the same thing

slate lake
#

we have SOOO many out patient facilities

#

I live in a small area with at least 8 clinics and a bunch of specialty surgery centers etc

odd barn
#

Right

#

I was thinking more about the whole, when / if a vaccine comes out for corona, how is it going to be shared among healthcare facilities / doctors offices / etc

slate lake
#

It is $89 for an evaluation here

#

oh ugh that is gonna be a mess

odd barn
#

I'd prioritize the elderly / immunocompromised / children, and then move on to the general population

#

also, healthcare workers should be up there too

slate lake
#

yeah

#

but then people will freak out cause they want it so they can goto work etc

odd barn
#

patience is a virtue, which a lot of people lack

slate lake
#

some wont want it cause "vaccines make you sick"

odd barn
#

And that's fine

smoky rose
#

As long as they don't drag minors down with them.

odd barn
#

I know this will certainly come up with children going to school, so we'll have to see where that goes

#

no comment on that though

slate lake
#

damn near impossible to apply to a medical center job.. the website is slow

smoky rose
#

Nice, new GPU WU ready before the current is finished.

slate lake
#

mine have been "downloading" for a while now ;c

smoky rose
#

Ohh, SARS antibody research.

#

Looks like we are making progress.

#

I can't wait for that damn vaccine.

slate lake
#

oh that would be neat

#

lol i have 13,024 points

marble quartz
#

vaccine is a long way to go

#

procuring one is part of the solution

#

mass producing and logistics is the bigger challenge

#

also testing

smoky rose
#

I get pneumonia very easily. I am not a fan of SARS at allt.

#

Asthma and all that.

slate lake
#

yar i has the asthma it doesn't effect me that much... except recently when the weather changed but since the pollution went down. not so bad

odd barn
#

Given that we're in the infancy of testing antibodies to react to sars/cov, I have to hope that we're going to be able to do this soon enough

i wouldn't be suprised if this is our like fastest cure made yet, with how crazy people are about finding a cure

no wu available :|

slate lake
#

no wu 4 u!

#

boo hoo

#

:

timber fossil
#

that didn't take long

hushed bobcat
#

@silver wing Ever seen this one?
I've had to delete 3 WU on this rig because of this error

#

Oddly enough if I set threads to 29 (and it reduces thread count to 28 to avoid domain decomposition) it works fine

silver wing
#

Yes that is just a bad WU that can't handle more threads than what ever it was made for

timber fossil
#

wow that is terrible

silver wing
#

Those probably 'should' be reported but I never do, I just work around it

hushed bobcat
#

why does it stop when i set the thread count higher?

#

always seems to happen at 28 threads

#

but not at 29 or 30

#

and its happened 3 times at 28

silver wing
#

dunno, probably some logic fail in the WU

#

thing about a lot of researchers is they are not always seasoned experts in computation and programming

#

@rich depot I see that team jumping argument is still going on a year later

rich depot
#

Yep

silver wing
#

Not that I agree with it but damn get over it
