jade spade
#

so INTO day two

#

not on day three

#

eesh! it's only working my gpu at half it's capability

silver wing
#

when it finishes it'll tell you the points so we can just wait and see ๐Ÿ™‚

jade spade
#

it'll come through ๐Ÿ˜‰

hushed bobcat
#

can you give us a screenshot of the Assigned, Timeout, and Expiration Times?

jade spade
#

yep

silver wing
#

you need to change one of the GPU tiles in task manager to Compute or CUDA

hushed bobcat
#

actually a shot of the whole WU section would be nice

silver wing
#

3D utilization isn't what get used for folding

jade spade
#

laptop

hushed bobcat
silver wing
#

RIP

jade spade
#

only 2 minutes a fold ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

#

my gpu is smoking my CPU

hushed bobcat
#

lets see

#

it looks like you got that WU 19 Hours ago

#

and you'll finish in 2 Hours

#

so 21 Hours total

jade spade
#

I can't see expiration date

#

or is that on the web control

hushed bobcat
#

for the first shot its the 11th

#

for the other 2 its the 14th

#

Expiration is 7 days from the Assigned Time

jade spade
#

yeah, but I swear I could see it somewhere the first time I started pholding

hushed bobcat
#

so if your hardware cant complete a WU in 7 days it throws everything out

jade spade
hushed bobcat
#

i think it is in the web client

jade spade
#

it's in the web client XD
why do I have eight days for the one that I'm decimating
ohhhh.. it's a bigger WU

hushed bobcat
#

thats about right for a 1060

brittle coral
#

not bad

jade spade
#

Holy SMOKes

hushed bobcat
#

actually no

#

it should be about 100k higher

jade spade
#

the times...

#

how long will it take? 3 hours
how long do I have? eight days

#

sorry, not used to it going so fast ๐Ÿ˜“

#

I'm used to about an hour a fold

silver wing
#

I cant remember if 11763 is a fast project or not though. Some projects are twice as fast/slow as others

jade spade
#

wait what???

#

why would 11763 already be done?
ohh, does it fold them over and over?

silver wing
#

estimated PPD will change with each different project

jade spade
#

you can't fold it more than seven times!

silver wing
#

WUs you get can be from different projects

jade spade
#

I'm kiddinggg

#

okee

#

am confused but okay!

silver wing
#

also you can if the sheet is large enough

jade spade
#

ohhh

silver wing
#

really really large ๐Ÿ™‚

jade spade
#

pFFFT

silver wing
#

mythbusters lol

jade spade
#

yep

silver wing
#

hexhamer!

brittle coral
#

@rich depot click the tab with your gpu whats that getting

jade spade
#

ehm.. what did the F@H client do...

#

my browseer

#

it opened just fine with everything else on my laptop

#

but it refuses to play nice

brittle coral
#

chrome or firefox?

jade spade
#

chrome

brittle coral
#

make hte switch

jade spade
#

because I'm one of those weirdos

brittle coral
#

firefox is more secure and chrome doesnt play nice iwth it

jade spade
#

nop

#

oh

#

ehm

brittle coral
#

with F@H

#

everyone has had problems

jade spade
#

I don't know how?
it always uses chrom now

brittle coral
#

uninstall chrome

#

install firefox

#

boom

#

XD

jade spade
#

gasp NO!

#

I love my chrom!

brittle coral
#

on the real though you can install firefox and then go to the URL for it in firefox

#

even if its not your primary browser

jade spade
#

yeah

#

true

brittle coral
#

I work for JWZ and know some of the firefox team

#

sooooo

#

apart from having used it since 2004 im biased xD

#

ive never liked chrome much tbh

jade spade
#

now it's playing nice

#

it's all good!!

brittle coral
#

sometimes it wont

rich depot
#

nice

brittle coral
#

even after a windows reinstall i couldn't get it to play nice on the test bed lol

jade spade
#

I honestly love chrome the best

rich depot
#

I don't do love

#

or any human emotion\

brittle coral
#

firefox has a bunch of official extensions that block google from monitoring your PC when you go to their site

#

same as firefox

jade spade
#

I know it "sucks up ram"
but I found chrome runs the best on all of my computers

#

and uses the least ram

brittle coral
#

with the right tuning it still sucks up way more ram lol

jade spade
#

it doesn't!!

#

I refuse!

brittle coral
#

does for me

#

how many tabs you run xD

jade spade
#

not for me at least

#

ehm.. seven

#

?

brittle coral
#

my average opening load is 12

#

before it gets filled up

jade spade
#

I can get up to 20 and it's still faster than everything else

brittle coral
#

firefox's tab handling is way better

#

in my experience

jade spade
#

Firefox sucks on my laptop!

#

super laggy

brittle coral
#

but that's also because of the containers

#

it makes things way faster

jade spade
#

and never had any ram

brittle coral
#

leave gmail and facebook enclosed and they dont spiral out of control

jade spade
#

swapped to firefox, all good

brittle coral
#

rest of it is pretty light weight

#

cool

jade spade
#

well

brittle coral
#

yea its still the best browser for F@H lol

#

they developed for it im pretty sure

jade spade
#

Firefox doesn't play videos ๐Ÿ˜›

brittle coral
#

what? does for me lol

jade spade
#

I tried... firefox betrayed me

brittle coral
#

@_@

#

something else is going on

jade spade
#

it sucked butthole

brittle coral
#

if it didnt work with F@H

jade spade
#

noh, I'm just using chrome

#

and advanced control

#

Firefox has never played nice for me ๐Ÿ˜“

brittle coral
#

anything special you're doing?

jade spade
#

on firefox?

brittle coral
#

just browsing in general

jade spade
#

yeah

#

videos, browsing, facebook,

#

messenger, discord browser version sucked too

brittle coral
#

yea idk like i said most of that is run in containers

#

i use discord browser version because the app is broken, no global mute

#

cant turn it off entirely

jade spade
#

DnD

brittle coral
#

firefox has global mute per tab tho ๐Ÿ™‚

jade spade
#

?

#

huh?

#

well, I'm glad it works nicely for you!

rich depot
#

dudes, go to #public-chat or whatever to keep bitching about what browser is best

#

just agree to disagree and start folding

jade spade
rich depot
#

good ๐Ÿ™‚

jade spade
#

am folding and were talking about theee... best one to use for F@H web client

#

annddd
got sidetracked

rich depot
#

I know

jade spade
#

sorry ๐Ÿ˜“

rich depot
#

no problem

#

my gpu can't find a job ๐Ÿ˜ญ

jade spade
#

oke, well, Good nesssss
I'm folding so fast!

rich depot
jade spade
#

?

hushed bobcat
#

LTT Broke 5.5 Billion Points yesterday

jade spade
#

pfft

rich depot
#

129k assign rate. it used to hover around 125-126 the last few days

jade spade
#

nice!

#

oh

#

oh my

rich depot
#

@hushed bobcat do you happen to know how many years it was from the start before ltt hit 5.5 billion points total?

hushed bobcat
#

not a clue

jade spade
#

GPU is 2.5 times faster than my CPU

brittle coral
#

what cpu and gpu?

#

i see the 1060 nvm so i guess what cpu

jade spade
brittle coral
#

for sure lol

#

so pre-ryzen

jade spade
#

top right and bottom left

brittle coral
#

thats not terrible then

jade spade
#

it's 4+ years old

#

heh

#

also a new GPU

hushed bobcat
#

I still think the 1060 should be a little faster

brittle coral
#

its faster than my 8350k which is newer but only 4c4t

#

yea thats waht mine looks like jonkza

#

only im a 3800x

#

so its 4ghz

jade spade
#

grrrr, hyperthreaded octo core, using two logical cores per...

brittle coral
#

waht

jade spade
#

nuffin

brittle coral
#

thats pretty hot, what cooler

#

the stock cooler on my 3800x has it running much cooler im pretty sure

jade spade
rich depot
#

nice shot

jade spade
#

I have the "stock" cooler I got wit hthe pc, it's liquid cooling

brittle coral
#

same cooler

#

im checking my temps now

jade spade
#

ooh! I can download the status observing programs now!

brittle coral
#

just let me reinstall OCCT lol

rich depot
#

I have the same cooler on my 2600x with arctic silver, runs fine

jade spade
#

would y'all suggest uningine, occt, or core-temp

#

(sorta off-topic, sorry)

rich depot
#

I use core temp cause I have it in my taskbar

jade spade
#

what should I uusseee

rich depot
#

core temp, just told you @jade spade xD

jade spade
brittle coral
#

i guess 85c is standardish

#

my cpu is at 80

#

but like

#

idk its been so long since i looked at air temps

jade spade
#

gonna use it

brittle coral
#

i havent paid atention for years i was on water for like 8 before iwent back to air on m 8350k cause lazy

rich depot
#

@jade spade yeah I use coretemp because it works good and has that option

jade spade
#

wha?

#

it has what option?

brittle coral
#

i like using OCCT because when I overclocked regularly it was the best monitoring app and stress tester ni one

#

coretemp is also โค๏ธ tho

#

all my early OCs were done using it

#

i need to get a CPU in a CNC lathe sometime though and solder a probe to the die IHS

#

idk

#

i have a fan blowing on me at my desk

#

its louder than my whole rig

#

always on when im at it

#

its still not that loud compared to past stuff

#

and its pretty โค๏ธ

jade spade
#

occt is not scary to me

brittle coral
#

occt just looks pretty

#

thats all

#

it uses the same data cortemp does

#

i think the devs talk to each other a bit

jade spade
#

sooo prettyyyy

#

108

brittle coral
#

that doesn't seem safe xD

hushed bobcat
#

going to guess thats your VRM's

brittle coral
#

yea

#

lmao

#

has to be

hushed bobcat
#

0 is your CPU Package

jade spade
#

I dunno ๐Ÿ˜…

brittle coral
#

if the rig is running anything at that temp without crashing it would be the power distro to your cpu

jade spade
#

oke

#

heh

#

that's scary

#

my disk has a temperature monitor on it ๐Ÿ˜†

brittle coral
#

thats your hard drive lol

jade spade
#

yep

#

mah disk

brittle coral
#

what app is that, occt?

jade spade
#

yes, ish pretty

brittle coral
#

yea looks like

jade spade
#

is 56 degrees a good CPU temp?

brittle coral
#

man why does my evo+ 1tb run so much hotter than my 512gb pro

#

even tho it has a heatsink on it

jade spade
hushed bobcat
#

96C @rich depot

brittle coral
#

yea my package is hitting 88.7

#

mmmaaaaaybe its time to bust out my old radiator and install it again xD

#

i'd need a new block tho

jade spade
#

I'm at 30% on my GPU WU :0

queen aurora
#

109C ? O.o

jade spade
#

yyyeep

queen aurora
#

dafuq, get some cooling going asap

jade spade
#

that's the power distro

hushed bobcat
#

i'd get a fan on those VRM's

jade spade
#

๐Ÿ˜“

hushed bobcat
#

usuallt 110-120C is about all you want on VRM's

jade spade
#

wha...

brittle coral
#

ooooof

#

i paused my wu for a bit

#

came back to look

#

14541

#

says 11hr15m

#

@_@

#

seems to have stabilized at 7hrs 53m

#

thats still a long time for an rx5700xt

hushed bobcat
#

just about blew a hole through the PCB

jade spade
#

Ehmmm

#

that's scary

brittle coral
#

ive seen this happen

queen aurora
#

@jade spade depending on the caps of your VRM they may be rated for temps like +105C,+125C,+150C rarely +200C but these are the max ratings which are only for a limited time of 4000 to 5000 hours

brittle coral
#

in person

#

pay respects to my 2 7950 windforce cards

#

xD

#

yea it was like that

#

one did and then the other not long after

jade spade
#

oh.. ehm, okay

#

sooo... where would it be found?

hushed bobcat
#

I just had a friend with a EVGA RTX 2080 Hydro blow the VRM's while folding

#

@jade spade Around the CPU socket

jade spade
#

so just.. slap a fan on it?

hushed bobcat
#

I'd like to see your cooling setup, but yes just point a fan in the general area

#

usually you only see temps that high with AiO watercoolers

jade spade
#

no, I mean literally sticky tape a fan on it

#

Jeez!!! if my cpu ever got that hot????
I have my fans at 100

hushed bobcat
#

i wouldn't attach anything to the VRM heatsinks, just point a fan at them

#

your CPU will throttle before it gets that hot

jade spade
#

heh

#

yeah

queen aurora
#

Sage i painted the VRM area in red

jade spade
#

I see

#

STICKY TAPPPEEE

hushed bobcat
#

i just looked up your board

#

your VRM heatsinks are huge

jade spade
#

jeez, my CPU is blowing waaaarm air

jade spade
#

currently at 109

queen aurora
#

yeah feels like a wrong offset or broken temp-probe but holy hell get it to cool down

#

point a case fan directly on it, attach a heatsink with thermalpads or whatnot

hushed bobcat
#

attach a heatsink to what?

#

the heatsink thats already there?

queen aurora
#

@hushed bobcat no not you ... I meant @jade spade with his 109C VRMs ๐Ÿ˜›

hushed bobcat
#

yes i know

#

i linked a pic of HIS motherboard

#

he posted the model number earlier and i looked it up

jade spade
#

:3

#

sticky tape and zip ties

queen aurora
#

according to his screenshot its an MSI 760GMA-P34(FX)

#

@jade spade what mainboard do you have exactly ? ๐Ÿ˜›

jade spade
hushed bobcat
#

oh crap my bad

#

i looked at the wrong person lol

queen aurora
#

yeah so the one where I painted in the VRM area

hushed bobcat
#

and that would explain the temps

queen aurora
#

@hushed bobcat no problem was confused too ๐Ÿ˜›

hushed bobcat
#

AiO cooler

queen aurora
#

AiO radiating the heat and GPU releasing hot air to the top so you got a cooking corner where your vrm is

#

you may want to add a pulling fan on top and if possible a pusher in the bottom

jade spade
#

I'm slapping a fan on the pump

#

to blow around the socket

hushed bobcat
#

that should be perfect

#

i bet it'll drop temps quite a bit

brittle coral
#

i love having my PC open and by a window

#

it takes in cool air and conditions it so the room doesnt get to cold

jade spade
#

stares at the sticky tape, confused

brittle coral
#

you don't wanna see what my graphics card looks like

#

i got an asrock challenger 5700xt and 3 of 4 fan shroud mounts have broken off

#

reason being, the power cable to it has so much tension that it put to much pressure on them

#

xD

jade spade
#

OHHHH

brittle coral
#

its hanging from that and one remaining mount barely

jade spade
#

That's make sense

brittle coral
#

i dont know what im gonna do yet about it

jade spade
#

for zipties

#

๐Ÿ˜„

brittle coral
#

see

#

i have one of those

#

sitting

jade spade
brittle coral
#

and a 290x that was on water

#

the one i had paired with it i gave to my business partner

#

its

#

oof

#

xD

#

that board bent so many ways

#

lol

#

how badly did the board bend on that

jade spade
#

got a fan on it, now I just need air to move faster

#

my computer runs kinda hot

#

well

#

spews a lot of hot air

#

but I think everybody's does?

hushed bobcat
#

your CPU and GPU package looked fine

#

like 55-60C on the CPU and 60-65C on the GPU right?

brittle coral
#

my 8350k is over clocked 300mhz and its getting package temps of 50c avg

#

xD

#

โค๏ธ cold garage air

#

its 43f outside temp

#

once i get more cards in there im opening it for sure

#

this dude sold the rx580 out from under me so now i messaged a guy on craigslist with a 1070 for cheap af

#

if that falls through maybe i just buy another new rx580 or if im feeling really spending another 5700xt xD

#

theres some great used deals on ebay as well

#

for about what i was gonna get the 580 for

#

bruhhh that temp xD

#

thats like back when i lapped my athlon 4000+ and it was in a 22c room running at 23c lmao

hushed bobcat
#

@jade spade what are your new temps

jade spade
hushed bobcat
#

only 40C cooler

#

lol

jade spade
#

That's still 40C cooler!

#

and set up a pulling fan

#

uups ๐Ÿ˜… had to turn on the pull fan

#

it was off

queen aurora
#

way better

#

now the capacitors feel well and comfy on the board ๐Ÿ™‚

hushed bobcat
#

your VRM's now

jade spade
#

and i feel a whole lot more comfy with my board

#

I have fan blowing on them and a fan pulling the air that's blowing over them

#

GPU is still smoking my CPU with the folding though

#

GPU is working on the COVID 19 project

#

still at 300k+ ppd :0

#

the capacitors are warming uppp, am scareeddd

#

I'm not used to that much

#

I thought 700 was a lot

#

pfft

brittle coral
#

hey im looking at what's in my area used

#

does anyone here have stats on the 1660

#

its supposed to have oversised FPU

#

for its price

brittle coral
#

definitely not worth $180 when i can get 2 580s for that just about then

#

ty

hushed bobcat
#

if you dont count power consumption

brittle coral
#

im factoring PPD as the primary deciding factor but power is also a concern lol

hushed bobcat
#

1660 is 120 watts

#

looks like 1 580 is 165 watts

brittle coral
#

Yea

#

Its not a big enough issue for ne

#

It may be on my 7950 when I test it tho, or the 290x if I test it

#

Idk if the 7950 is even good lol

hushed bobcat
#

its on the list

#

looks like aroound 125k PPD for the 7950

#

and 280k for the 290x

brittle coral
#

My risen gets the same as a 7950 lmao

#

Ryzen

#

Silly phone

#

Went afk a sec

#

I may run the 290x just cause I can

hushed bobcat
#

7950 launched in 2012

#

TDP of 200 watts

brittle coral
#

I'm gonna be setting up a 980ti as well so I'm looking up Nvidia cards to pair with it now but who knows

#

Him maybe it's worth it

#

I forgot about the lower tdp

hushed bobcat
#

i tried to get used 980Ti's off of eBay but i was always outbid

brittle coral
#

Just only if I have the slot

hushed bobcat
#

ended up with a GTX 970

jade spade
#

I'm trying out Xubuntu on my dell tower

brittle coral
#

Frien doesn't have room for it

jade spade
#

for folding

brittle coral
#

Giving it to me to fold on for now

jade spade
#

oooh, it's nice and cleeannn

brittle coral
#

so is the 980ti he has xD its been in a static bag cleaned from before the outbreak lmao

#

he took off the fan shroud and deep cleaned it

#

then reapplied the thermal paste and cooler cause it was on water

#

or i can have the block again but so much work

frozen lark
#

Hey guys, I've got a FAH client running and the GPU keeps getting assigned to the work server 192.0.2.1 which isn't a routable IP (part of http://www.iana.org/go/rfc5737)

Does anyone have any idea why this keeps happening?

jade spade
#

downloading folldinngggggg
oh... sorry not me

hushed bobcat
#

hmm

#

I think that means the gfx card is unsupported?

#

try restarting the client

brittle coral
#

6800 should be supported but it's also ancient

hushed bobcat
#

yea thats a 10 year old GPU

brittle coral
#

in other news idk what i did with my NIB accelero xtreme IV for my 290x lol

queen aurora
#

@frozen lark gpu:0 means it's an unsupported GPU thus it assigns a not resolveable workserver basically to keep you from requesting work for this slot which will never be able to do work

frozen lark
#

ah okay, thank you ๐Ÿ™‚

queen aurora
#

AFAIK your card only supports OpenCL 1.1 which is no longer used by most of the computing software

frozen lark
#

yeah, it was my old desktop I had laying about, thought i'd chuck it at FAH, but maybe not ๐Ÿ˜…

queen aurora
#

worth a try ๐Ÿ™‚

brittle coral
#

okay guys dont laugh

#

i have some mental health issues

#

and

#

long story short theres a 6ft pile of recycling (boxes mostly) in mny room from when my partner died last yea

#

rand i think i lost my cooler bewhind it xD

#

LOL

#

its bad

#

XD

#

Halp

#

i can get to the 290x

#

but i moved the cooler

#

it used to be stashed in the loft bed

#

now idk lmfao

#

probably at the bottom layer of that pile

#

so im gonna start cutting into it i guess

#

i actually did once already this is like since christmas from bed level

#

didnt finish it then

jade spade
#

well I've put back my extra 7 feet of ethernet cable and have given up on F@H on xubuntu for the night

hushed bobcat
jade spade
#

yeahhhh, I said for the night

#

but thank you

#

it's 2:30 am

brittle coral
#

lol fair

jade spade
#

yeahh
heh

#

exhuasted

brittle coral
#

i woke up at 4pm so im holding F@H support vanguard here lol

#

while digging into that pile and watching trailer park boys

#

i was legit gonna hit it tomorrow honest, but i moved it up a day xD

#

wanted to get to my parts closet

jade spade
#

ooh, niceee

#

I also am trying to figure out

#

umm

#

my wireless dongle

#

to work on it

#

am so collddd

#

and still foldinggg

#

I wanna live in my pc

#

it's warm

#

oh no!

#

try restarting again?

#

oh boy

brittle coral
#

if you want to be sure its okay to restart, put your save somewhere that wont lag and then set interval to 3 minutes

#

xD

jade spade
#

how do I change where it saves?

brittle coral
#

fastest way i found was to reinstall tbh

#

and when you do reinstall

#

complain to them in the reason for "other" xD

#

so they fix that

jade spade
#

they're also not used to such a huge amount of people using their service

#

Eighty one percent!!

#

EXsasdl;skadfjasdf
whaaTT

rich depot
jade spade
#

What freaking work load did you get???

#

how long is the freaking ETA @rich depot

#

that's over 10 years!!

#

oh my gosh

#

if it actuallyl...

#

that would have just..

#

goodNESS

#

Imagine having a WU actually THAT big

brittle coral
#

omgwtf

#

thats a long time haha

jade spade
#

come onnnn wuuuu, finnnishhh so I can sleeeep

opal sorrel
#

morning yall, dumb question, mine wont even display that im having to use the FAHControl panel to see everything....

brittle coral
#

i dont think that unit will be relevant by then

opal sorrel
#

is that normal?

brittle coral
#

chrome or firefox

#

(chrome is the one with issues)

opal sorrel
#

firefox

brittle coral
#

weird

#

usually chrome is the one with web control issues

#

noted

opal sorrel
#

thought so, ill just restart after this one is done. things are getting warm in here lol

drifting palm
#

chrome browsers seem to be working now

jade spade
#

I would pause and restart my computer?

drifting palm
#

I use Opera

jade spade
#

pause it and it'll get to a safe spot I think

brittle coral
#

woah someone who still uses opera

drifting palm
#

It me

brittle coral
#

my step dad used that browser back in the 90s but he uses firefox now lol

drifting palm
#

I didnt even know it had existed that long

brittle coral
#

i work for JWZ so my decision was easy lol when you know the devs you can help a lot more easily

#

uh yea xD

#

the benefit of it was that running the browser server side meant in the 90s that things were faster on slow workstations

drifting palm
#

It doesn't eat RAM quite as bad as Chrome so I've stuck with it

brittle coral
#

they were the only quad core rigs back then, and it was 4 whole sockets XD

jade spade
#

omlll

#

imagine using that nowadays... with as big of processors as you can fit in there (as many cpu's in each ehm... chip?)

drifting palm
#

Is there any way to tell your client which server to ask for units from?

brittle coral
#

thats why virtualization is a thing now

jade spade
#

(idk, it's 2:45am and I'm not that smart)

#

okay..

brittle coral
#

nowadays that kind of rig has 896 cores per blade

#

in a 1u

#

at least, at maximum according to intel's site

jade spade
#

:0

brittle coral
#

yea lol

jade spade
#

imagine actually needing that many cores..

brittle coral
#

AWS et all

#

hence AWSfolds

#

xD

jade spade
#

just take it and fold... good lord your power bill

#

fold on full

brittle coral
#

$$$$$

jade spade
#

good lord

brittle coral
#

get yourself an XATX mobo with 4 sockets and buy the best off the shelf xeon

#

build it yourself

#

or find one used

hushed bobcat
#

@drifting palm no you cant chose your server

brittle coral
#

rare but it happens

drifting palm
#

How many points per day do you think you could get?

#

Thats a shame

brittle coral
#

i can't even imagine

#

CPUs normally aren't fast enough to really get a massive bonus for fast work

jade spade
#

ehm... 4 mil

brittle coral
#

the exponentially higher processing power throws all the math off

#

if it scaled linearly and the cpu was avg clock 2ghz?

#

fuck i don't even know i'd need a calculator

#

okay back to folding(boxes) xD

#

was cooling off it got hot working standing up on my bed

drifting palm
#

Does anyone know how much the 6 GPU system is getting at the LTT Office?

brittle coral
#

all the heat from my folding rig is sitting up there

jade spade
#

good lord!
no clue

brittle coral
#

that should be easy enough to extrapolate from the list of GPUs

#

scroll up

#

if its going full tilt just add all 6 GPUs together plus wahtever CPU he said in the video

jade spade
#

imagine if LTT took every single computer part they had and put together as many computers as possible and then set them all to fold on full

brittle coral
#

or CPUs i think that one was a dual socket board right

#

10 bucks says they already have

jade spade
#

PFfft

brittle coral
#

that's a given

drifting palm
#

Its the big ass threadripper right?

brittle coral
#

what's linus' personal folding profile

jade spade
#

100 says they've still got more parts

brittle coral
#

igo look

#

yea no shit im just saying i bet they did them all already because they've had like a month

#

but who knows maybe they spent it doing other videos and building out the data bandwidth side for the F@H work server

jade spade
#

they have the processing power of a small freaking town

#

and the power usage!

drifting palm
#

Its a dual socket

hushed bobcat
#

the 7 GPU folding PC is running dual Intel Scalable

#

8180's if i remember right

drifting palm
#

Its 6 RTX 2080Ti equivalents

hushed bobcat
#

and 7 Titan V's

small relic
#

errr does having your cpu consistently at 100% degrades its performance over time?

drifting palm
#

In a liquid loop

hushed bobcat
#

@small relic as long as temps stay in line no

brittle coral
drifting palm
#

If you dont overclock then it should keep itself at a safe temp

small relic
#

my i7 9700k is clocked to 4.97ghz and the temps are between 80 to 85c is that too hot?

hushed bobcat
#

@drifting palm ohh you're right its 6 GPU's

drifting palm
opal sorrel
#

what an average points per day? 411,570 here

hushed bobcat
#

@small relic That should be fine, personally i like below 85C

#

@opal sorrel that GREATLY depends on hardware

drifting palm
#

Im getting 1,167,667 right now

jade spade
#

:0

small relic
#

how high is too high, just curious

jade spade
#

there is no limit

drifting palm
#

CPU temps?

jade spade
#

kididng

opal sorrel
#

i figured as much, only a 3800X and 2080ti

jade spade
#

cpu temps, 100C is too high?

small relic
#

@drifting palm yeap

hushed bobcat
#

this is just a rule of thumb but 95C+ is usually too hot

drifting palm
#

^

small relic
#

i see thanks

drifting palm
#

I try to stay under 90 to be extra safe

hushed bobcat
#

@opal sorrel That system should pull over 3 million PPD

jade spade
hushed bobcat
#

2080 Ti is 2.8-3.3 mil by itself

small relic
#

wow how are you guys getting so much points, im only at around 83k per day

#

and i have a 2080

jade spade
#

am kold

drifting palm
#

You probably dont have a gpu work unit

jade spade
#

need jakket

hushed bobcat
#

you need the passphrase and 10 WU completed to be eligible for QRB (Quick Return Bonus)

opal sorrel
#

@opal sorrel That system should pull over 3 million PPD
@hushed bobcat ...omg i forgot a comma. we are good. thanks.....its too early

small relic
#

currently i only have cpu work, its on and off

drifting palm
#

Thats why

grizzled stirrup
brittle coral
#

80kppd isnt bad for cpu then

grizzled stirrup
#

second

drifting palm
#

CPU is worse at folding than GPU

jade spade
#

my laptop gets a max of 1k ppf

#

*ppd

#

^^^

#

what Rogers said

#

ninety one

grizzled stirrup
#

CPU is ALWAYS worste than GPU if it's for math calculations.....

jade spade
#

not necessarily

brittle coral
#

yea but sometimes the workloads require the math it does best so it's worth running faster CPUs

jade spade
#

well

grizzled stirrup
#

If you have floating pont calculations*

drifting palm
#

My CPU gets about 85-90K and my GPU gets all the rest. About 1.05 Million

brittle coral
#

my 3800x is getting around the same PPD as the 7950 i have will if i run it for 125w less power

#

er 75w less, im tired cant math

#

switched values

grizzled stirrup
jade spade
#

I think everyone is tired

drifting palm
#

Im getting a covid one right now too

jade spade
brittle coral
#

yea ive bee nwaking pu early

jade spade
#

had one for a while

brittle coral
#

to game for a competition

#

we finished the qualifier round today tho so i can sleep tf in

grizzled stirrup
#

It's noon here now lol

jade spade
#

I'm trying to get into a schedule and wake up earlier than 9am

brittle coral
#

its 3am here and i dont sleep till around 8-9am rn

jade spade
brittle coral
#

"early" is before 4pm lmao

drifting palm
#

It just turned 5 am for me

jade spade

do you mean pm?

grizzled stirrup

jade spade

that's not okay..

why do you do this

#

it's pacific for me too

brittle coral
#

i worked at a club

jade spade
#

oh

#

I see

brittle coral
#

and doing rentals for nightlife

jade spade
#

nvm

grizzled stirrup
#

@small relic you can go the your IP address with the port 7396

brittle coral
#

and im an insomniac

#

it all lines up

#

i get off work at 1-2am on early shifts and then im up all night after chilling xD

jade spade
#

I've got some insomnia
it's not too extreme at least

brittle coral
#

we have shifts later than that

jade spade

still have lotta trouble sleeping or getting tired

hushed bobcat
jade spade

I usually pass out

nice!

grizzled stirrup

UUUFF

jade spade

I'm gonna get a jacket!
someone scream at me if I come back without a jacket

grizzled stirrup
#

Can you like install the F@H client on your computer, not to make it fold, but to manage other folding servers??

hushed bobcat
#

yep

jade spade
#

oooh, jackettt

hushed bobcat
#

just delete the slots for the client you dont want folding

jade spade

heck, you could even set it to fold lightly

#

must make it all fold

#

I'm also 16 ๐Ÿ˜…

grizzled stirrup

is my F@H client not showing the server??? ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

jade spade

ehm

drifting palm
#

What do you mean?

jade spade
#

I don't know?
is it online and logged in?

hushed bobcat
#

Please be more specific

jade spade
#

I was thinking

#

sorry

grizzled stirrup
drifting palm
#

I cant read any of that

#

Crop it down a smidge if you would

hushed bobcat
#

the port is wrong for one

grizzled stirrup
hushed bobcat
#

also you blurred out the IPs for some reason

grizzled stirrup
hushed bobcat
#

ahh thats better

#

set the allowable IP range on the client you are trying to connect to

grizzled stirrup
#

Euh whuut?

hushed bobcat
grizzled stirrup
hushed bobcat
#

you need to remote login too the client you are trying to connect to

jade spade
hushed bobcat
#

so in this case 192.168.207.110

grizzled stirrup
#

That's a linux server

hushed bobcat
#

did you install FAHControl?

grizzled stirrup
#

On the linux server?

hushed bobcat
#

yes

grizzled stirrup
#

It's a CLI ubuntu ๐Ÿ™„

hushed bobcat
#

ok

#

stop the folding process

jade spade
#

Ubuntu feels like it runs really cleanly

hushed bobcat
#

then CD into your ETC folder

#

there should be a Folding or FAH folder in there

#

let me check my Kubuntu install

grizzled stirrup
#

FAHControl

#

fahclient*

hushed bobcat
#

lol i dont see one on mine

#

anyway go into that folder

#

should be a config file

grizzled stirrup
#

yea

hushed bobcat
#

nano that

grizzled stirrup
jade spade
brittle coral
#

i didn't bother with any of this lol. I had a spare monitor with enough inputs for 3 PCs so i set up VNC server on the first one xD

hushed bobcat
#

that should work

#

ohh right

jade spade
#

n'other covid WU

hushed bobcat
#

can you try and restart the FAH service?

#

then see if you can connect

#

you may even have to restart the whole computer

rich depot
#

I am dum-b

grizzled stirrup

teh server?

#

or my pc

hushed bobcat
#

yea.. the server

grizzled stirrup
#

with the fah client

#

oh

hushed bobcat
#

just try restarting the client for now

grizzled stirrup
#

i have restarted the server xD

rich depot
#

F@H servers been weird with the workloads

#

I can't download GPU WU's

#

or rarely

hushed bobcat
#

if that doesnt work change the allowable ip from a subnet (192.168.207.1/24) to a range (192.168.207.1-192.168.207.254)

drifting palm
#

Whats the benefit of running the FAH Control on a linux server rather than the rig running the client

grizzled stirrup
#

@hushed bobcat where? In that config, but what ip's? :x

hushed bobcat
#

its the 3rd and 6th

grizzled stirrup
#

Whatever I'll just throw it in

hushed bobcat
#

HTTP server and Web Server

grizzled stirrup

put in what i wrote 192.168.207.1-192.168.207.254

grizzled stirrup

oiii

hushed bobcat

that should allow every computer on your local network to connect to it

grizzled stirrup

yea, I did

#

I restarted it all

even the server

still updateing

hushed bobcat

@drifting palm hes not running FAH Control on the server hes just running the Client and wants to manage it from another computer

Or is that line for my GPU?

hushed bobcat
#

looks like you need to add proxy, command-allow-no-pass,command-port,and password

grizzled stirrup
#

Kinda extra lines xP

hushed bobcat
#

your command port should be 36330

#

I thought multiple systems on 1 port would conflict so i made a new port for each one

#

turns out not to be the case

#

and I would delete and re-add the client to the host computer

grizzled stirrup

<still the same ๐Ÿ˜ญ

There is a thread on foldingforum. I think it's called "Volunteer to fix the viewer". There are updates and known bugs there.

grizzled stirrup

I think the GPU cores feed wonky data. That is the CPU core.

Anyone know how to get the web control to work on chrome, the interface keeps reloading and i cannot get it to display. it works great on Edge, and i got it to work the first time i installed it on chrome, but now it seems to be behaving badly.

hushed bobcat
#

use edge

#

sometimes you can get chrome to work by running in incognito mode

#

but edge seems to work no matter what

smoky rose

You can open the dev console and refresh or use incognito mode. But it will usually bork itself again. Use another browser.

thank

thanks

brittle coral

firefox also works

ive been using it fine in there

smoky rose

Firefox is my default browser.

#

It's just Chrome that does not play with FAH web control.

brittle coral
#

yup

#

someone had an issue with it earlier but it was probably another one than the common one chrome users have

#

didnt know where to start poking at it, had him reboot and he didnt complain again xD

smoky rose
#

Sometimes people confuse project description not loading with FAH in "my browser" doesn't work.

solid anchor
#

Ahh, โ€œX doesnโ€™t workโ€, the bane of all IT people everywhere

sullen sequoia
#

Hokay, I'm up and running on two PCs and they both seem to be performing well enough given that they're not OC'd monsters - they're just my gaming PCs.

#

But I've been running all night and neither user name is showing ANY results on the Folding At Home stats page.

grizzled stirrup

beat me

XD

sullen sequoia

With a stick, any time, but that doesn't answer my question. :)

grizzled stirrup

How do I see my results?

grizzled stirrup

windows or linux?

Win 10 Pro.

#

If it matters.

grizzled stirrup
#

Yes, open ur client

sullen sequoia

I can see that page I think.

grizzled stirrup
#

Well that are your results?

sullen sequoia
#

Is there a way to show both results at once? CPU / GPU?

#

Aggregate them?

smoky rose
#

The web client does that.

#

web control*

sullen sequoia
#

It's bugged.

#

Just flickers every half second as I tgry to put in my user name.

smoky rose
#

Don't use Chrome.

sullen sequoia

I'm not.

smoky rose
sullen sequoia
#

And that's good advice as well for anyone at any time.

I"ll check that site.

smoky rose
#

Oh, what browser are you using?

sullen sequoia
#

Opera.

Only one out there that's remotely secure.

smoky rose

On the EOC site, left hand side, change TeamID to User Name.

sullen sequoia
#

Got it. Taht's perfect.

smoky rose

By checking a user or team that is handing in WU 24/7 you can see if the stats have been updated or not.

Check Hourly production.

The points are awarded later. They don't get lost.

sullen sequoia
#

Been running since just after midnight my time - something like seven hours.

#

Just out of curiosity, how much am I reducing the lifetime of my equipment doing this?
I'm running with a mild OC on the CPU and no OC on the GPU and at medium settings, but not on idle only.

#

I'd REALLY like a proper screensaver that shows the current protein folding process.

#

I've not been able to get the viewer to show me anything but the demo.

sullen sequoia
#

Hahahaha. I had a side gig in Tucson, Arizona where I'd get old farts to pay me to teach them how to use their computer and then be on-call for them. I'd eventually wean them off the service with a flow chart a lot like that (minus the snark).

I was making 30k a year doing that.

hushed bobcat
#

@sullen sequoia as long as you're not overheating you shouldn't worry too much about reducing longevity of your parts

sullen sequoia
#

I've got good fans and I did not disable my thermal controls. I think I'm okay.

hushed bobcat
#

you should monitor your temps

sullen sequoia
#

My GPU barely seems to be using any power at all.

hushed bobcat
#

atleast give them a glance every now and again

sullen sequoia
#

I can't while I'm sleeping. <grin>

hushed bobcat

I will warn you, it seems some EVGA GFX cards have weak/not properly cooled VRM's

Radeon XFX Vega 56

hushed bobcat

after folding (or mining) for an extended period they like to blow up

sullen sequoia

What would you say is the best monitor to use

hushed bobcat
#

as long as temps are below 85C id say you're good

sullen sequoia
#

I've got AIDA64, but I don't think it does GPU well.

hushed bobcat
#

If you have MSI Afterburner use that

sullen sequoia
#

Pretty sure I have that.

hushed bobcat
#

if not alot of ppl in this discord really like HWiNFO64

#

and I like HWMonitor

#

HWiNFO is a slightly more powerful a tool

lament falcon
#

I started folding today, but it is only using my CPU and not my GPU. My GPU is picked up by the program, but it doesnt get anything to do... Tips?

hushed bobcat

go into the advanced client and look at the log

#

if it looks like this then you're fine

the servers just dont have a job for you ATM

sullen sequoia

Ah. Radeon added a bunch of monitoring tools to the last Adrenaline update.

GPU Temp is 33c

Yup.

hushed bobcat

so its idling ?

sullen sequoia

my 1060 is sitting still too right now

but they have enough for CPUs and not GPUs?

sullen sequoia

Apparently.

hushed bobcat

It goes back and forth

sullen sequoia

lament falcon

I would think that my GTX 1660ti would do a better job than Ryzen 5 2600X

#

oh well

hushed bobcat
#

GPU's and CPU's do different jobs

lament falcon
#

aaaaaaaaaaaah

hushed bobcat
#

the F@H community have done tons of folding on GPU's, now F@H needs CPU only tasks done

#

someone said in here what jobs specifically CPU's and GPU's do

#

but i cant remember off the top of my head

#

I think CPU's do drug interaction and GPU's fold the protein structure?

sullen sequoia
#

That would be my guess.
