If it's a long time between attempts to get work units, try pausing the client for a minute and then resuming. This will force it to attempt to download a new WU

Won't help to just keep spamming it, but if you haven't received a work unit for a few hours it might help to restart it

Enter in to safe mode, run DDU and clean out both the Nvidia drivers AND the Intel ones (assuming you have an intel CPU with iGPU?)

When you're waiting for a WU it will check every few minutes for a new work unit. If it fails a bunch of times, like 20 times, it will stop checking every few minutes and instead only check like every 30minutes... If it keeps failing it will take longer before it checks again

Tried folding on the HD7970 but it kicked the bucket pretty quickly. Thought it might have, last time I tried using it in the last event it died. Was hoping the dual BIOS switch would save me but it didn't

if you were running full tilt, it would be. Each WU is benchmarked on a known computer config, and given points based on that. So quick ones are worth less than slow ones

Hi, can anyone help me with a problem I'm having with folding@home? If I try using my PC while running a GPU task, it crashes to a black screen after 10 minutes and I need to forcefully power the system down. It's fine running indefinitely as long as I don't use it. I'm running Windows 10 with all the latest updates and folding version 7.5.1, and a Radeon VII with the latest drivers

The bonus is applied for users who use a passkey, have successfully returned at least 10 bonus-eligible WUs, have successfully returned 80% or more of assigned WUs, and returned the unit before its Timeout (formerly Preferred Deadline). Bonus points do not apply to partial returns.

In my experience crashes like that during folding are usually related to unstable overclocks.
You haven't tweaked the memory clock have you? Memory clock doesn't provide much benefit to folding so its best to keep that stock

i had a WU today, which wrote this to log:
10:10:09:WU00:FS00:0x22:Temperature control disabled. Requirements: single Nvidia GPU, tmax must be < 110 and twait >= 900

so yeah, that was clearly a WU targeted at CUDA cores

When I am home, my Ryzen and my X99 machines are both steadily crunching (when WUs are available) but this laptop will do the job for now.

Lord Taz, in such a case it might help to restart your client to get the WU request cycle start again

you can just puase it and restart the folding and it will reset the timer

yes, sometimes. but its not something that should be done often. ONLY for cases like yours where the request cycle starts to slow down like that

You can right click the slot and pause it

I'm working on a 5-day-old WU right now. I started it on my laptop while I was home, got too nervous over temps and stopped it until I figured out how I can keep it under control today

you need to complete at least a couple log entries for the estimate to be correct

if you watch the log in advanced client you can see how often it logs, depends on the number of rounds for that ptoject

but the client seems hardcoded to 24 hours anyway even for the ones with other time intervals

if I complete 5/100 rounds in 5 minutes then it's presumed I'll take 100 minutes to complete it, and therefore 95 minutes remaining

The GPUs will work independently of each other, so if you add a new GPU it will need to wait to find its own work unit

They are not my personal computers, they are computers donated to a non profit I help take care of called Noisebridge Hackerspace in SF. If you dont want the community messing with something you must put a do not hack sign on it.

At some point in the past half the ram from each machine was taken (they all originally had 64 GB).

After the shelter in place order in SF is lifted these will be publicly usable for gaming, 3d modeling and software development.
