@hallow nimbus
@clear igloo show me that once I get home
I want to play with ESXi
Lol
you need a dedicated server for ESXi
^
do you have that?
๐
*yes
What server do you have?
I'm not that dumb
If it's too old then you might be SOL
Yeah
Have to dig through and find an old ESXi version that supports it which isn't fun
Yah, stuff takes forever
I'm used to low latency
in my day dynamic web content wasnt a thing
Oooooooof
I was born into the dial-up, shaped by it, molded by it's scream
I didn't have high speed internet until I was your age
Wait what
denied
lmao
i fixed my dryer AMA
networking people can do more than networking!
you too can fix major appliances for $12
repairmen HATE him
Lol
lol
why cant you buy the asus 10Gb for cheaper?
wtf lol
So, links ? Pls ?
Ooh
Price seems to have gone up since I bought it.
That's not bad
Yeah. I'm just glad the fans don't scream.
Idk how Iโm gonna do the network for a new house
Lol
New house? @rocky badge you buying a house at 14?!
No
put the damn light under the ports
Gotta get some more people to work the street for you then!
Lol
Idk how Iโm gonna do it tho
I want 10Gb to some clients
And gigabit to the rest
Buy some Cat8 cable, few thousand bucks and you're set ๐
when i was 12 we didnt have 10Gb, we had RJ-11 network cards and liked it
Wot
they looked like modems but used your homes rj-11 wiring for an IPX network
Iโve never touched rj-11 lmao
i was on windows 98 when i had these i think
I never touched win 98
Windows 95 with the tree background was the best
Iโve only used Vista, 8.1, and 10
I'll never look back. I finally kicked all these hard drives out of my case and can build in something smaller.
Besides the server versions of those
ive used DOS, windows 3.1, 95, 98, 98se, ME, XP, vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10
DOS....
@waxen scroll Did you play Logical Journey of the Zoombinies?
lol
Would having IDFs be stupid? Lmao
For a home?
theres no reason you cant run all the wires to one central location
Yeah
You need one IDF per floor, a BDF, and a MDF
but seriously a single CDF is fine
But it is easier to find
I know
Just use DACs between them

It will look cleaner and you can get 0.25m DACs I believe
you tell me
I dunno what it is...
an exotic connection we've never heard of.
Yeah
@rocky badge wot is 3.13
Probably the switch number and the port number
wheres the IDF number?
old job our IDs looked like 12D25F042
๐
muuuuucccchhhh more detail
@rocky badge @clear igloo your IDs needs to scale
none of this BS 3.13
1 = floor number, 2 = IDF number, D = patch panel ID, F042 = ID of where the jack is located in the building... theres a grid system and a map to locate the spot. this lets you reverse lookup the location when you see a port in an IDF
oops forgot, the 25 after the D is the port # on the D patch panel
Lol
its helpful because some buildings may have half of the connections on one floor actually located on a floor above
while the other half are located on the same floor
of course you can long form a label "IDF2, PP3, P20"
too much info to take up a label for a small port
@clear igloo last company i wanted to standardize hostnames more than they were
i got flack for even suggesting we call a site "international"
domestic vs international
because it might make people feel isolated and offended ... or something like that
i think that was strike two for quitting
lol
Lol
5e+ means don't use CAT5 or lesser cable.
@waxen scroll I'll get right on standardizing the ports. Everything will henceforth be known as Eth(chassis)/(linecard)/(sub-linecard)/(port)
@unreal wedge oh
@clear igloo hai
\o.o/
I miss my computer and Internet ;-;
Still not home ?
Nope
Oof
Anyone knows how many watts PoE can support
Depends on the switch
I wanna use it to feed a Arduino and two A4899 stepper motor drivers with it
Cables have their limit too right?
Umm I'd assume so
UTP cables aren't that thicc
Yeah xd
Yeah
PoE can do up to 60W with UPOE+ or 30W with POE+
15.4W at POE
All based on Cat5 cable and 802.3bt can do up to 100watts but I'm not sure it's implemented yet. 44 to 57 volts is the range that all PoE supports to some level
@clear igloo are you at work?
of course
Lol
we PoE now
All the powa!
DA POWAR! Stupid bot
i was too cheap for a PoE switch. i use an injector
Oh man I have a poe switch from ubiquiti
it's love
my wifi setup is complete overkill. I can get a good signal from my car that's like 200 feet away.
Lol yeah
PoE is where life came from, it was the PoE port that started the spark of life!
Glory to the PoE port!
@clear igloo ๐
Hiyo. I just bought a powerline adapter for my PC, and everything including the cables are all rated for gigabit, but my router/modem combo (isp provided) is only giving me an amber light, help?
What model?
TP-Link AV600 Nano Powerline ethernet Adapter Starter Kit, Powerline speeds up to 600Mbps (TL-PA4010KIT) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AWRUICG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_iH5rthp324Tvj
That's @uncut pendant's
model router/modem?
Hai
Having fun at work?
its a technicolor cgm4231
4321
I would laugh if the default password had 4321 in it
So only the right LED is on, hmmm
I would assume the adapter either shows 100Mbps or not connected on the PC?
It is an intel
Properties > configure > Link Speed > 1.0Gbps
Dat
It will most likely drop but if it doesn't then yay
If it drops, set it back to auto
it did drop
Hug @rocky badge
this is the powerline software
it says its 196 but thats incorrect
and it gives out a random number
lol, seems legit
Hmm
Have you tried resetting it?
Have you tried offering it tears of sorrow?
The metal lords might be pleased with that
.....
Can you get internet via the adapter at least? or no connection out?
wat?
Can you connect to the internet over the powerline adapter?
ok
WHAT
dafuq
Where?
AT least according to one review
Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for TP-Link AV600 Nano Powerline ethernet Adapter Starter Kit, Powerline speeds up to 600Mbps (TL-PA4010KIT) at Amazon.com. Read honest and unbiased product reviews from our users.
wtttfff
Oof
Lot of complaints in the reviews about it too
But they advertise a gigabit port on their website xD
:( companies does bad things
this is verrryyy bullshit
i trusted tp link
People see 600Mbps and 4/5 stars
So they think it's 600Mbps
Most of the top reviews Amazon show are good reviews
Return to amazon
I was dealing with an other bs problem
100 is enough for most people, so they give high ratings
WiFi won't work?
Ethernet means 100Mbps
the wifi doesnt like the router
Nope
lol the isp said if i change the router i can get sued
Can you find a better product on amazon that does powerline and is cheaper?
It's a combo unit
Oh
Not tamper, just replace it and tell them you want to use your own
lol i tried
Who is your ISP?
buckeye
Surely you can use an AP
@uncut pendant you in the states?
Ask amazon if you can get an advanced replacement and swap it for
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Powerline-TL-PA7010-Certified-Refurbished/dp/B07D2LM7PP
Amazon.com: TP-Link AV1000 Gigabit Powerline ethernet Adapter kit, Powerline speeds Up to 1000Mbps (TL-PA7010 KIT) (Certified Refurbished): Computers & Accessories
Nah the box is close to a window and they drilled through it to get inside in one corner on the basement
Tell them it was false advertising and you would like something else
Ill talk to live chat
theyve helped alot
its amazons
Couldn't you buy a router and connect it to theirs? Wouldn't be ideal but....
they rmaed everything in my old exploding pc
and send me 600 dollars in 2 days
Many ISP provided ones can be set in bridge mode or what it's called
If you connect one with better WiFi you will get better WiFi? Connect them over cable ofc
Ir you have to use the box ISP gives I mean
If its the case for Momo
Btw WiFi in my ISP provided box is good enough for me
As long as I don't get NAS or something
Well
I have a server
WiFi wouldn't be the biggest problem if I die maybe anyway
It has files and stuff on it
That I want to access on my network
@lean pollen wdym?
I don't have a server
Somehow the ISP box doesn't let high speeds between users in LAN
Don't know why
Wot
Not even a network share across computers?.. dang
What would I need it for
sharing files?
Backups
lol
Well
this would be a good nas for beginners
Oh
.-.
I use my laptop to dump footage and photos on to my server
like cache?
When I think about it I should backup my photos too...
So I probably should get server/nas
Yeah
if you want to go cheap get some nas like this so you can have a raid 1 to backup the other disk
Raid is not a backup -Linus Sebastian
I have phone photos on g drive but not my other photos.
my dad got me the cheapest one he could find
I have all of my photos on my server and on Google photos
i got it 2+ years ago and i still dont have any disks to put inside
always good to have a backup out of your home
Computer > NAS > Crashplan
|---------> One Drive
Backup all the things all the time!
No, I don't have a storinator
I had something similar though
It drove me mad after ~2 years
Ewww storinators
Ewwwww @rocky badge
Ewwwww @clear igloo
lol, all the NVMe!
oof
but thats my daily connection
took me more than 3 days to download 200 GB of games
ouch
Haha
yikes
who needs 10 gb transfer speed
Haha
I do, I need 10GbE
dont lie
me too prob, dunno exactly why tho
You're right, I need 50GbE @waxen scroll
you need 1gbit
arent 8 KB/s enough?
You need "fast" Ethernet
Not when you have a 3TB steam library to keep backed up ๐
you can backup steam libraries?
ohhh you just backup the drive with the library on it
I mirror the whole library in real time

For reasons
Because I'm totally not running it on a RAID 0 setup xD
i should do it too prob, if the pc breaks i dont want to download 200 GB of games again
lol
he wants speed
Well 4 SSDs are too expensive
"too expensive"
Has a 9 thousand dollar computer
he steal it at work
You shut your mouth when you're talking to me @rocky badge
Lmao
Runs two HDDs in RAID 0 instead
runs 4 HDDs in raid 10 instead
go cheap
XD
If I upgrade it will be when 4TB SSDs are cheap and actually exist and put them in RAID 10 ๐
Do dat
use the sd card one
I need my 4K randoms
i need your floppy disk
I'll just order 2x HyperFlex C240 M5 and load them up with 23x 3.8TB SSDs
i have a lot of floppy disks
I'll show you mine if you show me yours ๐
We are talking about floppy disk drives right?
...yeah
Lol
i got a 5.25 incher
lol
Oof
So that's why Ubisoft servers are so slow
yeah
i was backing up my mc server
muh dusty 6 SSD raid
nice, is that a HAF case?
yes
932?
yep
Nice!
the cases dont like you too
Oof
lol
@waxen scroll Thermaltake?
@rocky badge HELL YEAH
Lol
Why would you want thermalfake?
Oof
cause they had the best hot swap offering for SSDs at the time
Ur fake @clear igloo
Lol
Their cases aren't bad, their watercooling products though
they have rgb fittings
this is what drives it
Ew RGB
shrug this was 2012 or so
Oh
PCs so expensive now and dont outperform that much as what i have now
so i dont have anything better yet
So no point in upgrading?
Lol
3930K on what board?
im going to toss this whole thing eventually but i have a lot of expenses coming in the next year so i dont really wanna touch the PC
asus P9X79 deluxe
this was my first system i stopped buying evga
because the mobos went to shit
๐
Lol
evga mobos?
yes
Ok, if you said X79 Sabertooth I would have had some more questions
didnt even know evga make mb
stupid 1xrtt
The x99 classified mb was good when I had it
Rip
Their x299 and x370 boards are bad though ๐ฆ
at first look, they dont seem that bad
Enhanced VGA
Lol
you know its something powerful when it have VGA
You need a Facebook
Not me
I think I have it but never opened it up
Lol
he even dropped the "well i paid for your [x]" on me to make me do it
@uncut pendant too slow
they gave me 9 mbps more than i pay lol
Im on fiber
but on DSL you get less than you pay for
Lmao
@rocky badge "Thank you for calling AT and T!"
Yes
AT&T is the epitome of shit.
$50 for 1Mb/s when we're paying for 1.5, and the local cable ISP offers 1Gb/s for that price in their fibre areas...
Btw, can a 50-ish ft run of RG59 with RG6 on both sides of it kill a modem's chance of a connection? I've got a clean RG59 cable that's roughly 40 years old in the wall that I'm going to re-run soon, but a while ago the connection died, claiming all kinds of BS, like not being able to communicate with the ISP to grab an IP, yet still being fully capable of locking into the downstream and upstream channels... though the SN ratio is 32 when it should be at least 35-40+...
Never gets a reply...
Weird that you can have fiber that isn't symmetrical
Still has to do with how many DOCSIS channels each stream has. Remember, fibre is only a type of cabling. The backend is still the same to my knowledge.
In my country all fiber I have seen is symmetrical
Smart country.
America and smart decisions go together like bad decisions and not getting into trouble.
Very seldom do they ever actually happen together.
@unreal wedge I pay $80/mo to AT&T for symmetrical gigabit >.>
@clear igloo lucky
i pay ATT nothing because they think its acceptable to offer 25mbit max in areas where comcast offers up to 2gbit
๐
What
they claim fiber is in my town but a quick round of address checks shows its not
you heard me
2gbit
it comes with a juniper switch
๐
lol
Yah, I know
Lol
Juniper is a good competitor though
Arista can burn in a fire though >.>
But does Comcast really give you a Juniper switch with their 2Gb tier?
yep
o.O wow
Isn't the 2Gb tier like $300/month?
wow
lol
Yeah
AT&T is rolling out 5Gb and 10Gb service next year >.>
Not sure on the prices though
lol
He doesn't want Comcast because it's unreliable in his area
His neighbors complain about it going down every week
ouch
Oof
The one thing I hate about AT&T is their IPv6 implementation
Is that from a Comcast line?
yes
I know but at least you can do a prefix request with Charter
AT&T just gives out a bunch of /64s on a per interface basis >.<*
I need a speed test
I can't subnet that shit
Mines a 6to4 iirc xd
Nah, Charter does full IPv6
OC-3072 Link
ubnt makes it a pain... you cant do ipv6 firewalling in GUI
i had to piece a stateful firewall together for ipv6 in CLI
What modem?
Ah, that old piece of junk
Might not have IPv6 properly rolled out for that because it's old
So let me put it this way
I had a SB8200 and IPv6 worked perfectly on their top tier plan (400/30)
I upgraded to 940/40 plan and IPv6 no longer worked because they didn't provision the plan properly for IPv6 because copy/paste is hard

Like old people mail?
haha
@waxen scroll lol
@clear igloo both of my remote sites are up now
morons at the telco did bad wiring at one site and mislabeling at another site
๐
Nice!
lmao
hi @hallow nimbus what do you do for work
its only been 2min
Hmm
which is a few min ago
@waxen scroll I move cunts

Ugh, this Tech Quickie video is full of morons and it hurts me ;-;
yah
A bunch of idiots who can't tell the difference between bits and bytes and why speed is measured in bits
oof
oof what?
100% CPU
yup
shush
You have an i9
oh....that's not a good thing... https://linusdrop.tips/7ba24e0899.png
lol
power went out a day ago https://linusdrop.tips/fabca38c32.png
ah
and it did updates... https://linusdrop.tips/b73ddc797b.png
updates! woo!!!!
Do you know what's good frequencies and shit for cable modems? xd
๐
That's why your IPv6 is hosed, Spectrum/TWC didn't do proper IPv6 until late 2016/early 2017 firmware revs

i have a bus pirate and a bus blaster
@clear igloo dem JTAGs dem serials
I wonder if you could rack mount a modem in a 1U
rackmount shelf
Yeah
i have a rackmount shelf
GG @rocky badge
and the modems are usually larger than 1U
mine is
THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING MICROSOFT caps caps caps caps caps caps caps
Yeah
This is why I hate laptops
The windows installer sees the key
And doesn't ask me if I want to use it
Or install a different version
So it was about to install Windows 10 home
lol
@rocky badge you can fix that another way you know.
How
Anyone here familar with putting together Fiber bridges? looking to break electrical connectivty over my data line from an exterior data line to a switch
these componets look right?
this is my simple setup
I havent messed with fiber in so long, but i think its right
Why a mac pro?
plus its a nice looking case
you saying that fiber i chose is overkill? i hear theres preterminated too?
Lemme ask this, whats your workload
My racks are controlling home automation
Smart doors
Windows
You name it
It controls it
We have speakers in every room
Thats useless
no it ain't
I see an anomaly in those photos
What is it
Absolutely nothing matches
Mmkay
When I decided to fix it up i replaced most of it
Its the same rack
Those yellow drops were moved too
Networking is now in the front
Before everything was in the back
is that a home server or a work server?
What racks you use?
It might've been home-made depending on who owned the house before you
They feel very cheap compared to the racks at my work
does it have wheels
My parents owned the house before me
No
And dont try moving it unless you want leg day
We are already using 2 backup lines because a contractor cut a main line
I was so anxious
He offered to re run it I told him to get out of my house
I saw some sliding system for racks to pull them out
Cant renember where or a brand
It looked sturdy
Some of the Units pull forward on tracks
But it cant be done
Before of cables
The plans had security and fire to be on this rack but my fire friend suggested against it
Instead it has its own rack
He said the last thing you need is a automation fault to make your firearm malfunction
Ours is in the middle of the room
It's a long story
There use to be a wall behind it
But we removed it
Thats the track i was talking about
So now the drops come from the ceiling above it
What's the intention
A rack in a closet that only fits the rack?
It's a great idea till it breaks
850..
Its 4 wheels and a strap to keep it from even remotely tippi g
I'm fine with my triple cheap rack
My old school had them
It's so heavy it ain't going away
Took 3 guys to get it where it is
We covered it in plastic
When we took the wall out
And I was so scared something was gonna break
Im actually thinking about buying one and one of the FS racks from snagav for my house if i get stationed at Ft. Campbell
It's great if you dont have space for a server room
Which I dont
Just turn a small closet into this
Ive got to wake up early and mow tommorow since itll be 100
I got a long drive
Server racks that come with the house? o.0
but that retracting rack looks pretty sweet
@rocky badge RIP that power bill
Yours?
Yeah
@waxen scroll @clear igloo I'm changing stuff on my network and I'm scared I'll screw something up. XD
Mess it all up!
Overlap them IPs like a boss
I want to migrate my FW VM but my AD is taking forever to move >.<*
lol
Lol
Because that's a usable IP..
Lmao
My server is using the old IPs
@clear igloo should I keep ipv6 enabled?
Lmao
@rocky badge play some vidya
What's that? ๐
I suggest stepmania
Yep. Get yourself a pad too xD
Why xd
It's fun
I have really bad anxiety so I had to make my rack perfect
It use to be a mess and I would cry over it
I got deleted and zip ties and new patch panels are really fixed it up
It once took me 3 hours to fix a simple problem because it was a mess
@soft briar
See I don't have room for a setup like that, unfortunately
Yeah, I remember you saying that a while back.
I use to have friends living but they all left
It's great since I throw large parties and people get down in extra bedrooms
Since they are all setup
Eh, I'm too old for that kind of thing even if I had room to. Lol
Jesus. That gives me anxiety just thinking about it
I'm almost married and my gf still wants to throw parties every weekend
I may invite 5-10 people for food and drink.
I have a large home its different
The center room of the house has huge vaulted ceilings
"you guys want to eat caviar and cheese and listen to jazz radio?"
No
