Anyone here currently using any available mesh networking solution?
Im moving into a larger place soon, and I don't think a single router is going to cut it.
Rather than have a second router set up as an AP I was looking into the mesh solutions like the amplifi HD, or netgear Orbi
Im turning away from the amplifi HD as it doesn't have MU-MIMO support.
So the netgear orbi is looking good atm, does anyone have any experiences with it good or bad?

basically I need a mesh system, and so far:
Google home: Range not ideal
Amplifi HD: No MU-MIMO support
Netgear Orbi: Seems ok, Though not a massive fan of the bulk/design and reviews seem mixed
So this looks like it might cover all bases fairly well
will wait for reviews etc first ofc
and if it costs more than a damn car ill look for something else XD

I've got 300mbs internet connection, so faster wifi would be nice but not necessary.
The main thing is that cause I use a NAS etc having a faster internal network would be very beneficial

You could get a 40GbE QSFP and then get a 4x10G breakout with LC connectors and couple them together. Or just get a BiDi optic if you have a single cable and it's MM
Or an QSFP-40G-LR4 optic and do a single run of single mode instead of multi-mode
But to the original point, @opal pagoda , yes 40GbE is totally worth it if you can make use of it 😛

Depending on what you make the switch with component wise, you should be able to get a copper NIC for that part too to add into it
Haven't really done anything with vyos before but if I remember right it just runs on a Linux kernel on any machine so if you have the slots for another NIC then there shouldn't be an issue there

i used to do the whole NAS thing, then i asked myself WHY since local storage is always faster and you can toss up a file share for any other machine
but i use desktop more than any other device
i wouldnt do this 40gb thing unless i was running ESX off it
also @clear igloo correct me if im wrong but a port channel wont do any good (4x10gb comment) if you're at home going to a single target

well if you're doing infi, you should be good to go... i was assuming you were trying to port channel
Po's use a table and generally keep your connection on one of the four 10Gb versus using all of them at once

i wont argue that but who honestly needs over 1Gb.... its fine for steaming 4k video to your TV and for large files at home you can generally wait a little versus the huge cost of other solutions
