yeah
thats what im talking about
nobody seems to get there oculus device in less than a week
from the official website
so it most likely
wont be here
on nov 6th
Why buy from there tho?
because i didnt know where else to buy
@sullen linden how am i supposed to "dont read my status" if you dont have a status
i wanna quest 2 for my first vr headset.
ok so get one
Yeah.
I might buy knuckles for my old vive and get an Index sometime in the future.
The Vive wands are worthless now.
I might buy knuckles for my old vive and get an Index sometime in the future.
@digital scaffold thats literally my exact plan lol
@sullen linden XD im below minimum on the cpu owo
my gpu is fine
oh yeah and i need some more ram
.
whenever i play a game it uses almost all my 8gb
even with everything closed except the game
obviously
lol It's been a month since I got impatient with the official steam order and just bought a used index, and the order in my steam account STILL says 2 weeks or more until shipment
I'm gonna try to dropship it to someone who doesn't wanna wait in line, or just cancel my order and let the next person in line have it, but srs I feel bad for people waiting on that order confimation
yeah its insane
i thought the quest controllers wouldve need 2 aa batterys but they only need 1 each lets go
and im too poor for batteries so this is life saver for me
lol Ive got rechargable controllers
I wish the index used removable batteries instead of it being built in
Then I could just swap the batteries out whenever they're empty and I wouldn't have to wait for them to charge
Or I might just need to strap battery banks on my wrists
theres a very risky way to solve that problem
buy a usb A to dual usb C cable
and plug it into the frunk while you play
welp there goes link on quest 1
Is quest 2 for 350 euro really worth it?
413 dollar
Its so expensive in Europe idk why
really????
dang
@late prawn i mean for 413 dollars u could get a rift s if u have a pc
wait no i forgot tax
or you could buy it on ebay or amazon
but i mean u could get a quest
wait hol up
the 256 gb quest cost that much
its the same prics
@late prawn its 459 cad here in Canada which =
for the 64 gb version?
US gets everything cheap
like all other countries: nooooooo... u.s: PAY UP NOW TO THE U.S.A
yes
us and uk are wayyyyy cheaper
yea
like my friend "lives in uk" got the 256GB MODEL!!! for only 299 GBP =
like GRrrrRRR
like pssttt linus do a giveaway! XD no no jkkkkkk
lol linus is active
ik
@gleaming quiver
@gloomy crater what does drop ship mean
@sullen linden Sorry, I fell asleep. But drop shipping is when someone pays a second person the price of an item, and then the second person uses said money to purchase the item online, shipping it to the address of the first person. Most of the time, drop shipping refers to the first person overpaying the second person and then the second person keeping the difference between the money obtained and the cost of the item. If you ever see people selling "confirmed orders" for indexes on ebay, all you're doing is overpaying someone to buy the index, have it shipped to your address, and then they get to keep the extra money which is their 'price' for the order itself / not having to wait in line.
@gloomy crater o
can I get index controllers for cheap on ebay like you can knuckles?
or are they all scalpers
like the wands are 260 on the vive shop and a pair can be had for 100 bucks on ebay, cheaper then buying 1 of em
probably bc everyones throwing them out for knuckles
yeah
but tbh if I bought knuckles I would keep them around for portal stories vr and any other older vr game that doesnt support them
yeah
but I see the appeal to make a quick buck
some of the games i wanted to play are only on pc
well you can always get link
roblox vrs performance is shit
im running a gtx 1650 x 1050ti (pysX) and an i7 8700 and im getting warping
wait roblox has vr? what year is it???
which if you dont know is a thing that happens on oculus devices where laggy scenes will seem jellowy
wait roblox has vr? what year is it???
@haughty tulip its had it since the launch of the rift lol
okay
Man I can't wait until the big navi aib models launch. The RX550 I have now performs better than I expected in that it gives consistent frames with no stuttering or lag, but there is some latency that prevents me from being able to play stuff that requires good reaction times.
ok so I plan to upgrade to something with better visuals then the vive (Headset only cause ive already got bases, etc) should I go for cosmos elite (cheaper) or index(better)
Still get the haitch pea reverb
its 549 headset only, the index is 700 headset only I believe]
Nope. Cosmos Elite and Index headset are price matched for headset only
You'd pay 700 for the headset + controller bundle
I already have controllers
I own and use an OG vive currently
also how do I put in custom songs, its been a while
I got it I think
I always use the OneClick install from bsaber.com with Mod Assistent
ive got the mod assistant
I dont think they have the mod for the new version of the game
popped a bunch of super hard songs in there to try out the wands
You can still use ModAssitent for One Click installation of songs
Even with 1.12
Only thing you're missing out on 1.12 with mods is NoodleExtensions (a game breaker for me, but not for everyone)
also whats the mod that allows cyberdemon to work? I cant find it
I had a friend set it up for me when I first got into vr and Idk what the mods called
That mod is called MappingExtensions
Similar to NoodleExtensions, but more limited. Mods that use Mapping Ext. Require Mapping Ext. Mod to be installed. Same applies for Noodle Ext. Maps
damn windows does not want me modding BS
I got the official one from GH and it blocked me at two places
Yeah. The application is not signed from M$. It'll work fine anyways. It's more of a protection from M$, so you don't end up running a virus or something. Too bad these signatures can easily be aquired
any good mods I should get while ive got this open?
MappingExtensions, NoodleExtensions, Chroma
These are like the 3 most important mods for me, as they all unlock some new mapping features in BeatSaber
does bsr work for you?
Chroma is not required for any supported map, but those who do, look so much nicer
ive tested it out with a couple friends and couldnt get the bot to work
!bsr requires the Song Request Manage mod. At startup of Beat Saber, after installation, will open, and you have to enter a Twitch token in there for the mod to work
In this website that'll open
so on startup, beatsaber will open a website, pop a key into it and it should work?
I don't know the address anymore, but unless specifically set so, it will always open on startup
Yep
pog
It'll even tell you how to create said token
Does the new Oculus Quest need a facebook login for connecting a PC or just for the builtin games
it needs it for everything afaik
Damn thats some BS
you need facebook to login to the oculus app on pc and you cant use link without setting up the quest or quest 2
so yes, you need a facebook account
rift S is pretty good
If I buy a quest 2 and connecting my account, can other people see my real name, or is only facebook able to see my name ? I'm ok if only facebook is able to see my name, and I think I'm going to use it only in PCVR mode and probably with virtual desktop
it auto sets ur username to ur name and then a number, you can change it later tho
thats only on oculus however
steamvr just uses ur username
doesn't steam vr use your steam username ?
yes
steamvr used steam username in every game but rec room, which used ur rec room account
ok, thanks for the clarification
damn its easy to pair vive wands
steamvr is def the best kind of headset
ignoring budget of coarse
Vrchat can use its own account instead of the steam one
Oculus is cool but Facebook is not
MY VR HEADSET IS HERE
Oculus or htc or valve?
oculus quest 2
anyoone else have issues with tracking being absolute ass after launching BS and playing for a bit?
its only with BS no other games
Lighthouse tracking, right?
How many lighthouses are you using? Any reflective surfaces?
no reflective surfaces, all matte displays, windows closed, 1.0 lighthouses
I don't see anything wrong with that
Do you have the tracking issues only in BeatSaber, or also in other titles when swinging your hands around fast?
im pointing to a software issue because it only happens in BS
I played BS for 15 mins, shit tracking
I play other games for 15 mins what can be expected from lighthouses
What I'm asking is, is it because of the swinging around? (basically what you'd do in BeatSaber), or is it also happening in the BeatSaber menu?
latest I think
And what mods do you have installed?
Yeah, try vanilla
k gimma a sec
Installing all mods available can often lead to glitches and bugs, and is thus not recommended
I didnt get all of them but ive got a ton
wait how do I go vanilla
just like reinstall it?
You go in the Installation folder and rename the "Plugins" Folder to something other then "Plugins"
Oh wait... don't do that
Better just re-install
just did lmao
I forgot that some dependencies for the mod loader are also in that folder
Yep
Huh...
The mods should be there, but a clean install should mean, that they're not loaded
oh I gotta wipe the folder
it was backed up
k its a fully clean install
goin in
just gotta pop in some custom songs
k goin in
what
my BS is fucked im tryna fix it
for that I would recommend calling up oculus support
they will instruct you on a reflash
full clean install of the OS
oh ok
we going no wrist straps I live on the edge
working alright
yeah played 3 songs (issue started after 2) with no issues, wonder what mod it was
wii flashbacks
I noticed that pairing bluetooth IEMS (Galaxy buds, in this case) lowered the framerate of only the blocks to an unplayable amount on my Quest 2. Really odd.
Oculus support is really fast to respond.
ok
Something else could be wrong with it.
Bruh
are you RMAing it?
what
idk what it stands for but warrenty return
brb
Yeah, only the blocks.
thats wierd as hell
never getting BS mods again after that
ok oculus said to leave it plugged in till its charged
oh it can do that, its just updating
lwhen it got to the update it kept restarting over amd over againl
ok
does it at least work?
just was playing vr and I knocked down my basestation ._.
yeaaaah thats going in the corner
it still works thank god but
well when the setups done ill have two so they will not be in the middle
the issue was that it was in the middle so the rings were hooking onto it an moving it around
anybody know how to fix the oculus update/restart loop
outside of reflashing the OS idk
idk I avoid oculus like wet food in the sink
o
poggers
lmao
Is the OG vive’s cable long enough to do this?
I have no idea, but if it’s not, an extension cord (or two) might get the job done
16 feet, you will want an active USB extension, and a well rated HDMI. For power, there are extention cables you can buy for the vive power plug
I have gotten it to work with a few different extensions before.
Wouldn't it be better to go wireless at that point
It wouldn't really be better cost wise
i like the sound effects
eaup ååeu ääau bomp
Can someone Help me out? I just got my Quest 2 and wanted to install the Oculus Software to my Pc so i can use Link but the Problem is that the isntaller gets stuck at 45% and in the Task Manager it showes that this Setup is Suspendet
Process is suspended?
yes
You don't think that might be a problem?
Idk how to fix it
Does anyone get a "Your computer does not meet the minimum specs" message on the Oculus headset after upgrading to an RTX30x0?
Does anyone get a "Your computer does not meet the minimum specs" message on the Oculus headset after upgrading to an RTX30x0?
@regal breach I dont have 3000 series but I Think its because they havent put it in their database yet
@carmine wharf
ok
After that press View Purchase History
im still trying to find out the best time to place the order for the index
since im getting my money around feb 15th
That's a tough one to be honest
I ordered mine on July 26th and i've still been waiting
So
Who knows
Shipping speed can also vary based on your location
i accidentally clicked order on the valve index page
lol
ill cancel it
i think ill order sometime in december
Good luck with the wait
because then if it wants payment slightly before, my parents can just buy it and i can give them the money february 15th, and if it wants the money after its no problem
You have time
damnnn dude revive be workin well
if my parents dont have the money when it comes time to pay for it, guess i can just reorder or beg steam support
steam support will just tell me to reorder so i wont bother them lol
Yeah
They're so secretive when it comes to asking about the Index
Not sure why
Hopefully i ain't getting baited and it actually does ship in 3 weeks
If not imma be sad
its a shame that oculus doesnt support cross buy on all games, as if they DONT wanna make money from upgrades to the quest 2
Well, it’s up to the devs :/
controllers being drifty???? is this an issue with the controllers or can the basestation just not see them too well
ive got a similar issue with an oculus thingy when tracking is iffy but I just wanna know that its not broke because IK the tracking technologies are wayyyyyy different
ohhhhhhh
I broke the basestation I think ._.
I punched it a while ago playing until you fall
after that I remember it started ._.
What are good vr headsets not owned by Facebook
Cause Facebook mandatory login pissses me off as they force you to give them your info so they can sell it
What are good vr headsets not owned by Facebook
@gaunt hull a used vive can be had for around 300-400 bucks, a valve index can be had for a grand, the upcoming reverb G2 can be had for 600 bucks
windows MR is decent if not a bit frustrating on the software side
I punched it a while ago playing until you fall
@sly falcon its not broken
just recalibrate
it probably moved
would that cause wobble?
i dont see wobble in that video
i just see the virtual controllers not matcing to real ones
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/369072191293358081/774834223236120627/2020-11-07_22-12-15.mp4 heres a more dramatic example
i just see you moving your hands?
is your base station wiggling
nope
dude you might want to upgrade your pc or close some stuff
that graph dont look good
smacked them full firce b4 this started lol
bitch dropped to the floor like it was under arrest
not either
it hit its side
and it was fine before
then it kinda got worse and worse
I think its probably just gonna red light on me soon :/
imma be honest idk man
im just going with basestation, I needed a new one anyway cause ive got the old old model basestation
gotta get the newer 1.0s so its easier to replace
?????????
whats the difference
ok
wait
how do they even work wtf?
i thought it had the leds and a rotating mirror
but whats the motor for if the leds are stationary
@sly falcon are the 1st gen and 2nd gen base station 1.0's compatible
i thought it had the leds and a rotating mirror
@carmine wharf they do, its wierd
how does tracking work if it has stationary leds??
do they flash really fast or something
yeah but whats the spinning thingy for
oh no
exactly 9 capital Ms
lol they said the sound the base station makes
which vive is the crappy one again? the cosmos elite?
the OG cosmos
ah
it makes me very sad that the vive cosmos elite still uses the stupid vive wands
Something went wrong with my old basestation and it is now extremely loud.
Still works, somehow.
Sounds like an 16x CD drive.
well you can get magsafe for them and make it decent
That's a good idea.
whats the difference between "controller" and "controller (2018)" on htc's website
I have one of those on my quest 2.
whats the difference between "controller" and "controller (2018)" on htc's website
@carmine wharf one is blue
lol is that all
hahaha
lol is that all
@carmine wharf no, its the pro controllers, work with vive pro/ 2.0 basestations
its not
I agree but its still relivant
they are only $100 because there is no competition
That would be nice.
But it would somehow track data.
Probably would only work with the quest 2 as well.
the only time id ever buy a vive tracker is if i started making mixed reality content and had a cameraman
so i could track the camera
Or if they make a Quest Pro or something.
they need to make a successor to the rift S
not everbody wants a tetherless headset, just makes it heavier
you can actually pop a vive tracker on a camera and use it for Liv
They have no reason to anymore. Those people wouldn't buy a Oculus, I would think.
i wouldve bought a rift S instead of a quest if i had known i was getting a pc
the quest is AWFUL to use with pcvr
I've used my Q2 with link a few times. Works perfectly fine for me.
the cable comes out of a bad spot and its super heavy because its got all the crap in it for tetherless
Weight doesn't bother me as much with a frankenquest.
all i can really say is
i cant wait for an index
honestly may keep my quest for a while after i get an index tho
I like my quest 2 for what it is.
oh yeah its very good for the price
i just think if they are going to ONLY have the quest 2 they should at least make it better for tethered vr
What would they really need to improve?
Visual quality is okay. Better then my OG vive IMO.
oculus software overhead
Input delay isn't an issue at all for me in beat saber. I haven't really noticed that much.
I'm curious about the overhead.
No, I just wanted to try it.
Yes.
ok
Like twice.
the input delay is barely noticeable but still sucks for me
How much does the g1 weigh?
Actually, an issue I have had with the Q2 is the battery died in the middle of a game.
Likely because I was using front panel IO.
in link?
Yeah.
I haven't had it die yet with the rear type c port.
yeah
if you use link over type C it charges the battery while playing
but its still beyond me why the hell it uses the battery
all its doing is degrading the battery
i guess it uses the battery for tracking and guardian
but still
could they not have made a system that doesnt use the battery for that
Not really. A phone still uses the battery when plugged in.
no
It would have been nice if it was easy to remove the battery, though.
Have you ever used your phone plugged into a slow charger and it was actually discharging?
I think that was the issue with me using front panel IO.
yeah
I haven't used the type c port enough to see if it discharges there too.
let me find out.
I'm slowly upgrading my stuff to the index.
first getting new basestations, I guess.
Then knuckles.
prolly like december 10th so i dont get put behind the people ordering for christmas lol
Then the headset.
valve works with gen 1 base stations right?
idk why you need the new base stations
oh right cuz your vive one is broken oops
i think vive works with 1.0 and index works with 1.0 and 2.0
?
So I can shut it off.
oof
I have no idea how that happened.
And I don't have a ladder so I can't actually get it back down.
btw since i already own half life alyx, what do you think i should buy with the $60 that comes with the index?
im probably gonna buy beat saber and a pack of facial interfaces
What do you have?
on steamvr i have like nothing lol hold on
budget cuts, budget cuts 2, elite dangerous, half life alyx, the lab, universe sandbox, no mans sky
thats all my vr games on steamvr. ive got like superhot vr and stuff on my quest
Oh
yeah sucks that im gonna have to buy them again
since they arent crossbuy
if they were all crossbuy i could just use revive
Payday 2 vr is an absolute nightmare, but it's still fun.
ill look at it
still think my best plan is probably either beat saber+ another game or beat saber+facial interfaces
Depends on how big your head is.
im gonna get beat saber no matter what and i do want some face plates
wdym
they are all the same size lol
Wrong chat.
ah
yeah ik the stock interface is fine
i just want to have extra for when other people try it or for when one gets dirty
Even worse if you were somehow allergic to it.
what how
I have no clue.
the quest facial interface lets a ton of light in, isnt comfortable, and in combination with the strap gives me a major headache
It wasn't that uncomfortable until my face inflated like a pufferfish.
ooh speaking of comfort
So, until VR cover makes one, I am stuck with shitty silicone covers and my Vive.
new glasses just got finished, hopefully i can pick them up tommorow
I contacted Fakebook, and they're sending me a new one and a return label.
Nice.
ig
oof
Supposedly.
Wonder if it's whatever contractor they pay to make then switched it out.
why does oculus not provide the option to order the quest 2 with only the pro strap or whatever its called?
what if you dont want the strap that comes with it and would rather get like $10 off or something
They have a bundle with the Elite strap IIRC.
Bet the stock strap costs less then 10 usd.
There's a reason it was made by Lenovo and not them lmao.
It looks nice, but 50 usd for a case.
I probably will get it whenever I actually take it somewhere.
it feels nice and it fits the stuff fairly well, just wish the zipper was better
@digital scaffold oculus website says the regular strap is $25 and i cant find a bundle
yeah
so like what if id rather just have a quest 2 with a preinstalled elite strap and save $25
But the cost to actually produce it is probably like less then 5 usd.
yeah
It's a strap, some ABS and hook and loop.
do they not sell the quest earbuds anymore?
No, there's only a single 3.5mm jack now.
ooooof
Kick in the teeth for the people who spend like 100 usd on nice headphones for it.
yep
honestly i like the quest earbuds
they fall out of my ears constantly but they sound good
I'm too picky.
I want to attach a chord mojo to mine and use hd600s or something.
Or that new tiny Fiio one.
ugh
getting some wh-1000xm4's for christmas and have been told that they dont fit over the index head strap
glad the speakers on the index are good otherwise id be upset
Noise cancelling headphones with vr isn't the greatest thing ever IMO.
Much small soundstage with noise cancelling.
yeah but my rooms noisy and if i turn off my fan it gets hot
but tbh id rather have to deal with fan noise than sweat through my index foam lol
I tried using galaxy buds with mine but it broke beat saber somehow.
?
My quest 2.
quest 2 supports bluetooth audio?
no
the blocks (and only the blocks) had their framerate drop a whole lot for some reason.
You can pair bluetooth IEMS with a sideloaded settings menu.
ah
right because its android
i feel like im kinda dumb but i dont really understand what sound stage is
It's like surroud sound almost.
A narrow soundstage sounds like it's coming from inside your head.
You should try some.
well i would but i cant go to any stores to try some on
and im already getting xm4's because i WANT noise cancelling, so i dont see why id buy open back headphones for the opposite
Different uses.
yeah i guess
I would never use my xm4s at my desk or something.
hm ok
Dbrand should make skins for the quest 2.
Not sure of they could for the index.
when i get an index i plan on buying some extra dbrand skins and custom skinning the face plate
Someone hydrodipped their q2.
yeah saw that
Neat until you need to warenty it.
- i can just take it off
- i doubt theyd really care even if i left it on there. i might just not get it back
No, the hydrodipped one.
ah
whats that vr game
like the tech demo that takes place on the moon
think its made by valve?
The lab?
Oops
I messed up my touch 2 controller.
I managed to throw it in beat saber with the wrist strap on (granted, loosely.)
aha
found it
Moondust takes place in the Portal universe. With moon-based conversion gel stores running dangerously low, Aperture looks to the stars for a new source of the valuable portal conductor. Take control of a giant robot on the moon, spearheading the Aperture Lunar Resources Initi...
And now the oculus button is slightly pushed down and the whole plate is a bit loose.
Battery door creaks too.
on my oculus quest controllers one of the battery covers sits farther down than the other and the triggers squeak
More info here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1417294437
Knuckles EV2 is the cutting edge of VR input. Soon, hundreds of developers will get their hands on developer kits and begin experimenting, but for the last few months that task has been left up ...
wonder why valve unlisted this
I guess I'll shim the battery door to stop that.
It's my fault.
Not sure what the actual issue is, though.
Ooh
Little metal clip at the back bent a bit.
ok so
i rebound the controllers and some of it worked
but definitley only playable on the knuckles
Well, yeah. It's made for them.
Oculus looks like a a dumpsterfire rn
Is oculus compatible with steam VR?
yes, with link
If you're buying the quest which I assume, otherwise the Rift S and Rift 2016 support steamvr right of the book
quest works with steamvr through virtual desktop too right out of the box
well, forgoing the fact that you need to sideload VD
And you need a pretty fast 5g router all to yourself
Or wifi 6.
@civic burrow
how does grabbing stuff work on the index
like do you have to close your entire hand? or just specific fingers? idk
Depends on the app i assume
like do you have to close your entire hand? or just specific fingers? idk
@carmine wharf I think its full hand, ive only seen gameplay but thats what people seem to do
welp boys, ive done it, Ive spent a total of 1000 hours in vr, a total of 41 days
You've lived 41 days outside of this world Congrats
Top 3 most played titles in VR @sly falcon ?
heyyy steamvr says a key component aint workin
reinstall?
Top 3 most played titles in VR @sly falcon ?
@sullen linden superhot vr, beatsaber, and minecraft
Nice. I anticipate two out of three of those when I get a headset (G2 hopefully)
reinstalled steamvr. stil nothing
Weird.
Try repairing the steam service.
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\SteamService.exe” /repair or wherever you installed steam.
./steamservice.exe /repair
in command promt?
ok so im in steam client service it doesnt let me type in it
im lookin at this, what the hell do I do
im illiterate with the command promt
heyyy I fixed it, restarting somehow worked
Oh, great!
mom cleaned my room while I was gone for a bit and put all my school books on the vr shelf lmaooo
I asked her why I should do that and she just said, put them where you can easily find them, they were on a literal book shelf before
also life hack, put volta cable tips on the USB mini B cable of the vive wands so you can just grab them instead of unplugging
yeah
How much was it?
Oh, that's not bad at all.
@sly falcon I've spent triple your hours in just vrchat alone lol, I need to go out more...
Best headset to buy on budget
quest 2
*if you don't mind Facebook knowing every detail of your personal life, preferences and everything
If you don't want Facebook knowing basically everything there is to know about you, the next best option still available new is the HP Reverb G2. Although I'm still waiting on my Pre-Order...
Right now the quest 2 is really the only budget vr headset isnt it?
Because its cheaper than other headsets, and you don't need a $500+ machine
Used OG vive, I guess.
Yeah you can get a vive for less than $300 but you need a pc for it
i hate facebook a lot but they are doing incredible things with the quest
(or maybe they are just taking a massive loss on them and gaining it back in software and personal data)
Both, most likely.
A big issue with VR headsets is that producing them is a lot more expensive then manufacturing a phone. Although both require manual assembly, it's much more of that assembly that has to be done by hand (alignment of the lenses and screen for example)
It's what makes VR headsets so expensive. And I guess Facebook played it's data collection card to basically undercut the price any other VR headset on the market
I think without full control over the entire Eco-System and extensive data collection it's impossible to beat Facebook currently at their price game
wait what? i would think that a machine would be far better at calibrating lenses and displays than a human
Well... Think about it. There's a reason why the final assembly of phones is done by hand. It's the careful handling of parts that a machine can't match
i thought a machine would be far better at perfect measurements than a human
They also want to have control with whatever they think the next up and coming platform is.
With components that aren't always in the same spot, a machine would ram into it.
A machine can't take in everything at once as easily.
hm
Like seeing that something is slightly off would take a machine large datasets.
Finding every possible issue isn't possible either.
Anything really could go wrong in such a way that a person would see as obvious, but a machine wouldn't know is wrong.
Machines are used for things where perfect alignment of parts is a given, like with pick and place machines putting SMD components on a circuit board. But for virtually everything else, you can trust a human more then a machine
Yeah. Or something assistive like those SLS measurements machines.
Finer movement, like pulling fragile wires through management holes are another thing where machines are really not a good choice
There's a reason why surgical robots are controlled by humans
Yeah.
A machine is great for pressing the midframe into a phone and screwing it in.
Would save a lot of money because putting those screws in could cause pretty bad RSI.
does the strap on the knuckles wear down like the cloth on the headset does?
I haven't really noticed anything with the Controllers not with the fabric on the back of the headstrap. It seems to be mostly on the face, probably because that's where people sweat the most
just got called a sweat tryhard at beatsaber, I play casually
Same. I had a couple people call me good, while I know I'm nowhere near pro-level. Heck, I can't even beat "Reality Check" and "Overkill"
overkill, I gotta try that one
does the strap on the knuckles wear down like the cloth on the headset does?
@sly falcon how long does the headset cloth wear down? is it fast enough i should worry about buying replacement facial interfaces
what's the cheapest vr headset
what's the cheapest vr headset
@open steeple used vive(got mine for 250) or windows MR
cool thx
@sly falcon how long does the headset cloth wear down? is it fast enough i should worry about buying replacement facial interfaces
@carmine wharf Not too bad. Depends mostly on what kind of games you play. With Beat Saber I noticed that the facial interface really wasn't comfortable for more chill games like VRC after about 5-7 months of use. But said Faceplate is still fine for sweaty games imo. So I'd say if you do intend on playing games where you'll sweat a lot, getting a second facial interface to use with other games is advisable. Having said that, the VRcover facial interface replacements are like a match made in heaven for sweaty games, if you're comfortable with the sticky-ness of faux-leather...
@sly falcon how long does the headset cloth wear down? is it fast enough i should worry about buying replacement facial interfaces
@carmine wharf depents on which headset,
I think he's talking about the Index
The standard Index facial interface is comfortable AF, but also likes to collect sweat and cling onto it
same here with the OG vive
I personally found the face foam on the OG Vive to be too stiff. But not nearly as stiff as the stuff on the Quest 1. That feels like hard rubber, rather then foam
was thinking about getting a cloth vrcover but then I relised I would have to buy them over again and again
just apply antiperspirent to your face
was thinking about getting a cloth vrcover but then I relised I would have to buy them over again and again
@sly falcon they're washable
how
You can take them off, and well... wash them?
and clean it
washing machine?
sure
Afaik, the VR covers are machine washable, yes.
nice

@haughty thistle wdym it feels like im going to go strait thru it
are we talking about the same vive?
2018 model OG Vive. With the rubber straps
nope, im talking 2016 -2017 model with elastic straps
Huh...
its got a softer foam instead
These are the ones im talking about
They must have changed the foam in 2018
Looks pretty similar, yours compared to what I had. But it does indeed seem a bit softer then what I had
Weird...
idk im gonna get a vrcover anyway because this thing is soaking up more sweat then a sweatband, good thing ive got 2
You sure the second face foam you got is of the same type? The OG Vive had a wide and a small face foam option. Both included with the Vive as well as the replacement foam packages.
yep, ive got the small and wide, they both fit me so I just change them out while I wipe down the other with a towel

@haughty thistle oh boy is the quest really that bad? I'm more excited for the index now lol
I guess I won't know how bad the quests comfort is until I get the index since I dont have anything to compare it to
its BAD
imagine just pressing socks against your face
as hard as you can
also its cold AF
Idk
For me the Quest face "foam" felt more like a hard, slightly malleable plastic or really, really thicc rubber
For me, it's like pressing stones against my face. Not pleasant at all
That's why I'm now stuffing an Index faceplate into my Quest. Yes, I do get a smaller FOV, but the comfort is improved a lot, even compared to the already really good VR cover faux-lether interface replacement
I thought u had an index
Yep. Index and Quest
ah
I haven't used my Quest all that much. Mostly as a replacement while my Controllers were broken, or while being over with some VR friends
that kinda the purpose of my quest but it really doesnt serve anything rn because oculus doesnt have like sanitary disposable face covers so nobody but me and reletaves that havent been anywhere for a while can play on it
Same
I wonder if the vive one works
Last time I used my Quest properly for the purpose I inted it for, was while I was over at a relatives house. One of them wanted to try VR, so I gave a little tour with my Quest
its also a fun little treat when going over to my younger relitaves but that purpose hasnt been served in a loong while
Still waiting for my G2... Man I really wanna try the high-res screens already >.>
I mainly just use my vive because IMO its worth it so sacriface visuals for comfort when all I play is like beat saber and some rec room
because its kinda hard to spend some quality time in vr when the back of your head is numb, you neck hurts, and your face burns after 20 mins

how has the index held up for u, ive heared it doesnt last long
anyone have any ideas how to make the quest foam interface more comfortable? it starts itching and burning after like 30 minutes
dont buy a quest lmao
ik there's third party ones but they're sold out right now so im looking for like a temp alternative
no jk, get vrcover leather
Buy a VRcover... oh wait...
outta luck
how has the index held up for u, ive heared it doesnt last long
@sly falcon Been doing pretty good. I had a couple of bad controllers (first pair had the stick click issue, then had the trackpad on the right one be flaky, and the last 2 right controllers just flat out died). I also had one facial interface where the fabric started to come out of it's glued in compartment and a rattling right speaker. Lastly, my cable once gave up the ghost by showing like a snow effect on screen and sometimes disconnecting. All of these were replaced no questions asked. The speaker was apparently an early batch issue, so you shouldn't experience that. Same goes with the stick not clicking in certain directions.
I don't know if Valve has fixed the root problem of the cable breaking yet (but my guess is no as it's a fundamental flaw in how the cable exits the headset), but you can mitigate this issue somewhat by not pulling the headstrap too far up. Basically, the cable has like 0 wiggle room between where it exits the headset and the headstrap, so when pulling the headstrap up, you force the cable to bend in a very tight curve, which will break an optical cable like the Index uses...
we seriously need 3d play spaces
just walls isnt enough
id like to know where my light on my ceiling is so i know if i can reach up
How would you calaibrate the ceiling?
Ceilings are so divers, that it's easier to just say, that you have to be able to stretch your arms up in all places of your room
3d mapping of the room would be ideal
inside out headsets already have that capability
Good luck finding a 3D scanning HW/SW combo that works good enough for generalized playspace calibation...
im saying somebody should make one
Well, if you're talking about the object detection of the Quest, it's laughable. It detects my hands as tables
i know that it isnt a thing now
The problem is probably the hardware rather then the software. Just cameras don't offer enough information about depth
apples lidar sensors
Well... Lidar isn't exactly cheap...
correct
I never thought that colored room-view would make that much of a difference but damn
we have a lidar scanner in the iphone 12 pro, $1000. we can definitley fit a lidar sensor in a headset
The Xbox Kinect used a basically cheaped down variant. It was good enough for rough shape detection, but not far beyond that
the only way to have bounds be somewhat different is if you need to do 3 laps at bottom middel and higher but right now it's just learn your playspace if it's akward
If you would have a lidar sensor in a headset, you'd need to walk the headset your entire playspace top properly calibrate that. You win some, you loose some
should I get a small mat for my playspace?
ive seen it used in many places and was wondering what difference it makes
onto something else, how wide is the fov of index base stations? i plan on mounting them in the exact corners but im worried theres gonna be a big gap between my walls and my stations
my playspace is really akward i can only stand in 50% of my placespace and jump and it just takes time learning where you are standing have hit my head on things before and it's just learning to be safe
wait im dumb
if you have the base stations set up correctly, if you go right up against the wall the other base station will see you still
onto something else, how wide is the fov of index base stations? i plan on mounting them in the exact corners but im worried theres gonna be a big gap between my walls and my stations
@carmine wharf I did that too. I'd say you want your lighthouses to be at least 10-20cm away from the corners, so that the tracking works flawlessly, even when standing at the edge of your playspace
as for using a mat in your playspace it's a way if you can feel it also you could use a small mat where not to safe also being barefeet is a thing that can help if you use a mat
whats a good color that matches the vive, i put it on an LED shelf and couldnt choose the color
@carmine wharf I did that too. I'd say you want your lighthouses to be at least 10-20cm away from the corners, so that the tracking works flawlessly, even when standing at the edge of your playspace
@haughty thistle wdym 10-20cm away from the corners? wouldnt closer to the corners be better
hows passthrough on the vive? doesnt it only have one camera?
hows passthrough on the vive? doesnt it only have one camera?
@carmine wharf its OK if not a bit low res
its alot like the quests but in color
how..
wdym
is the camera fov like really wide
The lighthouses have a minimum distance, before the devices can track them. It's like with your phone camera, which can only focus on objects that are a certain distance away
hm alright
is the camera fov like really wide
@carmine wharf yeah, around 110 degrees
also this reminds me i need to redo my bounds so i can use vestibular motion
its full length across with a small cutout on the top
110° horizontal and 160° vertical is the tracking range on the lighthouses 2.0
ok so like
as i can't stand next to my bounds.....
ok so in steamvr, how do I make my bounds not visible on the floor? ive got a standing boundary rn
I didnt feel like setting up roomscale
how should i put my lighthouses before i mount them permanently
i dont want to screw them into my wall only to find out the tracking is wrong
how should i put my lighthouses before i mount them permanently
@carmine wharf stands or a dresser is fine
but i only have 1 tripod and the opposite corner of my room is basically empty except for a low down shelf which isnt ideal
ok so in steamvr, how do I make my bounds not visible on the floor? ive got a standing boundary rn
@sly falcon The boundaries only disappear as you go further away from them. I think the standing room calibration doesn't offer enough space for the boundary to ever fully disappear...
ahh, so I gotta setup roomscale right?
Basically
its not that I cant its that I didnt feel like it lol, I just wanted to get into vr for the first time in a while
You can also go in the boundry configuration page, and adjust them to your need
But I don't think you can ever fully turn them off
I have mine set to only show on the floor
SteamVR Chaperone bounds are highly configurable
welp I gotta reset my floor level anyway might as well make it roomscale
You can adjust color, opacity, design, etc.
does the steamvr boundary have to have 4 sides
they all do
Afaik, yes.
you can config it how you want
the room setup seems you take your controller around your room, and then it averages it into a square/rectangle. what if i have a little bit sticking out of the playspace that i can use?
SteamVR basically calculates a rectangular playspace from your selected boundaries. This rectangle has to be 2x1.5m for your playspace to be eligible for Roomscale...
well, i meet the recomended playspace size for oculus quest. i forget what the size is exactly but im sure my rooms big enough
You can still use that. Just remember, that where ever you ran along with your controller is where your boundaries will show tho
Sorry, I only speak proper measurement units ^^"
i apologize, 2m X 2m
Yeah, should be fine
I think Oculus only recommends 1.5x1.5m over here funny enough xD
i only used feet because thats what showed up when i googled it
lol
This is definitely large enough
I'm gonna move that big shelf
is it tho?!?!?!!?
?
id say so
theres a little bit more space behind my camera but i didnt want to hit my desk lol
also ignore all my crap on the floor that usually goes on my wall
and once again, i plan to move that big shelf and the little white shelf behind it
im gonna measure my room to be sure, but im almost 100% sure its large enough, picture doesnt provide very good scale
yeah, you gotta setup roomscale, I got that setup and now its invisible, so much more immersive
yeah i know its pretty thick, but i need to know if ill be able to mount it to my wall
the box?
yah
well does it have any inserts that you cant take out like the oculus quest box
nope, I dont think
ok
the index box i wouln't mount on a wall
Base station mounting places most likely
loving this ultrawide camera on my new phone lmao
and no, my room isnt usually this messy
is mounting on the ceiling or walls better...
can you even mount them on the ceiling is a better question
one of these days im gonna measure my room and make a layout of it
@carmine wharf walls, more versitility
grab some skywin stands, position them so they work, wall them based on that position and return the stands
Whats the max distance between the base stations 2.0's?
@carmine wharf what phone
Whats the max distance between the base stations 2.0's?
@carmine wharf long, you should be good unless thats a wearhouse
My playable area is roughly 2m X 2m
