i got mine before, but many of my friends were waiting to buy theirs and got screwed
I ordered Quest but i'm debating of just canceling it
and try to get Rift S instead
get it, then sell it for $600 π€£
cus afterall, it's not getting shipped out till next month

according to Oculus store that is.
@hexed notch Would you happen to know what size the torx screw in the index speakers is? I need to tighten mine and I have nothing that small
Yeah I'd rather just buy a cheap toolkit instead of a ifixit since I rarely have any use for them
theres a bunch of cool stuff thats gonna happen to vr in the future
It's starting to get annoying whenever I duck the speakers move and ruin the audio
apparently we arent even back to where the valve vr testing lab was back in 2013
tho their headset cost a million bucks per unit
oh no
that doesnt work
Portal?
and the other was canceled and sold to the lead engineer of the project for $100
portal
failed horribly
what
portal was one of the most successful games from valve
even tho it was released as an appology
lol
its not software
its hardware
anywas
one of them was steam machines
"revolutionizing tv gaming"
lmao
bombed so hard that japan had flashbacks
π
$100 headset that can run on integrated graphics at 180hz
Interesting
now it requires an expensive mat
expensive mat
Oh yeah the screw on the speakers is a torx t6
Video footage shot through the lens of the Tilt Five glasses.
Pre-Order available now- https://tilt-five.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders
anyways im gonna play some pistol whip now cause this made me want to play some more vr
Wait, can someone confirm that this is a legit one? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Oculus-Rift-S-PC-Powered-VR-Gaming-Headset-Black/153888150197?hash=item23d472d2b5:g:N4kAAOSwgoNeiXrN
o it's used
ebay
but gouging...
Well yeah but rn, I would have to pay 546 dollars with taxes included
for 128 gb oculus quest
yes
yes to rift s?
no im saying yes thats how much you would have to pay for the unnescessarily large quest
Well, that's better than paying 700 dollars for that type
when I was trying to get 64 gb instead
panicked n brought 128 before it sold out
I guess.
I was just a tad bit disappointed with the fact the hand tracking doesn't do anything currently and the fact Rift S is better overall
except Rift S is just tethered to the PC, which what I was gonna do with the quest anyways
quest = rift s
but it sacrifices latency for being able to play games on the go
they use the same finger tracking
I'd mostly just wanna play beat saber n vr chat
and as what Linus mentioned in the quest with link cable, if you turn your head fast. you'd get the black bars on the side
as it's loading in data
how about paying $0
remember
we are going into a recession
having money saved is a good idea
...Fair point
It really isn't though
Combat can be quite boring because the combine just stand still and you can just keep shooting them from behind cover most of the time
Also if you throw a grenade at their feet they just kinda stare at it until it exlodes
Does anyone know how to recenter your view with a HP mixed reality headset?
@umbral zenith blue zenith is gunna make me sick
I SS'd it yesterday and almost vomited
also whats that second map?
those one arm jumps look fun asf
ordered a valve index estimated 8 weeks
WOOOOOOO congrats @pale orbit
@flat monolith https://bsaber.com/songs/309f/
and my bad for the poor bit rate video haha, was from a long time ago
yee yee have fun brotha
what rank are you rn?
stopped playing for a while so im back down to ~450
ohhhhhhhhh nice
global?
dang boy ya speedy
danke
you too man! make sure not to drop off to hard :P
how long ago was that? most your scores are on maps a year old give or take, so i can tell its a bit of a while
hehe 3-4 months
not shabby
thanks hehe, starting to play again but my wrists have always been wrecked from other sports so i rely a lot on forearm
so it takes alot of effort to be speedy

Ew beat saber nerds
jk I was rank 700 like 6 months ago
Finally getting back into it now, but I have a long way to go to get my rank (and skill) back
Guys my laptop has the small DisplayPort. Does that mean itβs VR ready? The rest of the specs are above minimum requirements. I ran the official test from steam and it said maybe.
do any of you have the oculus dk2 drivers because when I upgraded my wardrive to a 1tb ssd some of the data was lost
also Mrmrmr2000 I am running a 970sc and a 3770 and it works fine so you should be fine
@thorny kindle need to find a good adapter probably
mini displayport to displayport is passive
Be weary of cheap mDP to DP adapters, as they are usually not properly shielded. Not a problem for normal desktops, but can cause issues with VR I heard...
I think itβs worth a try
I already asked this but I could not find the response but so any of you know where the drivers of the oculus dk2
thats gonna be a browse google for a while sort of deal
A GC do you recomend for VR ?
Hey guys, quick question for you all. I'm wanting to play vr in another area in my house, the problem is I can't necessarily move my pc and don't want to shell out the money for a whole vr htpc setup, is there a way to stream it to a Raspberry Pi or somthing and have a decent game?
no, lenovo explorer
Extension cables could not reach the area I want to play in
@rocky wing Sadly, that's really the only way to play VR:
Either get a headset that contains everything you need, or get a PC in the area where you wanna play
Whether the PC in the latter option is a Laptop or a full-on desktop doesn#t matter as long as it is capable of running the games locally
Like Carmonben said, all longer distance VR streaming systems kinda suck. I tried ALVR which turns the Oculus Quest into a wireless PCVR headset through the 5GHz Wifi on the Quest, and it absolutely sucked
Hello Help... Where can I find Valve index headset replacement cable??
@burnt lichen Contact steam support? They might give you a replacement if it's under warranty.
@haughty thistle I tried ALVR and riftcat for my Quest and they both sucked, but Virtual Desktop worked great for me - of course still not totally as good as wired link but usable
The only other way to get other room VR is if you have ethernet or coaxial cable between the rooms then you can use the vive wireless adapter setup (it uses coaxial, but it might be possible to adapt to ethernet using a converter. No matter what you would need at least a 1Gb connection between the rooms (10Gb would be better). As you need the wigig transmitter in the same area as the vr headset, and a really good connection between the wigig transmitter and the computer.
Would anyone know why Half Life Alyx is always crashing for me? Like 5 seconds into the game and it crashes. I can't do anything.
In a few years (or sooner) remote room VR will be doable in the same way as local game streaming between local machines is now.
@rocky wing this is a little bit expensive but vive sells a 20m extension
sadly it's dp
i think its like
500$ lol
@cold vapor You should join the official beat saber modding group discord. They have all the instructions there and you can ask for help too.
can you dm me the link?
Yeah
kk
I know that beat saber already has 2 versions of supernova but i had to make a third. It was at the request of a friend anyways lol
New Expert Beat Saber Map coming soon to Beat Saber.
Map:
I just couldn't stop myself
this will be fun, fast song with notes spread out or slower with notes closer together to both have the same number of notes
here's a hint, fast is better
Any and all custom songs on Beast Saber are. BMBF is pulling the songs from the same API as Beast Saber...
ye
patterns were a bit weird other then that its pretty nice
i can make maps with normal patterns when someone requests a song. other than that its just my mapping style
what other maps have you made?
a lot
hmm
idk how good you are
holy shit
i already have your unstoppable map installed
i dont think i played it though
thats my scoresaber
i remember your 6 lane milk crown tho
i feel bad now because im still learning alot about making hard maps
dont feel bad
honestly with what youve done its better then 90% of the mappers i know
things to fix tho especially on that ltt map
if you wanna get better at fast mapping
the dot spam was a bit monka
everything else was on time and to a degree hittable so its not out the question to fc it
i sightread a 93 3 miss
more you practice the better youll get
i get it tho, ive been mapping for a year and a half now and im still learning stuff
camellia map π
ill set scores on a few of your maps when im in the mood to play againe
i know this now and its easy to fix but when i made the map i did the NspD calculation wrong so the blocks come at you really far away and really fast.
yeah, so NJS wouldve been too high
good NJS for faster maps is anywehere between 20-24
acc maps between 8-12
anything in between is a generic map
sorry bot doesn't seem to care about spaces in its filtering
@flat monolith not exactly but i learned my lesson when i requested it to doot
the tempo is an important factor too
but get NJS fixed and thatll be solid
for doot though he likes anything fast he doesnt really care for acc
meanwhile im not too fussed as i do a lot of acc
hence my 92.5 ranked acc
so for me personally i wont be fussed on speed so
as long as the map doesnt bore the everliving heck out of me i wont be bothered
New version by request. The old version of this map is much slower and very difficult because it has double downs that are impossible to time properly.
New version: https://beatsaver.com/beatmap/90ea
reset at 0:55 will be hard to hit
triple right stack is also a bit odd
its playable but defo needs some work
you could ask a few of the mods over in scoresaber for help on it? will give requirements for rank but im sure that doesnt matter too much
as for myself idk much for mapping
or unless your british i can give you an invite to the BBSD?
rest of it feels
sliders at 1:22 looks nice as hell
looks like a hard song to pass, partially mapping partially difficulty
walls are nice asf dowe
well yea, some parts are nice, some are impossible. I think its still infinitely better than my previous attempt at rain of amethyst
i mean judging by how it looked on doots strem yeah
i can try passing it but
may take me a while
im going to reupload it with all this stuff in mind today
make sure to get some playtesters too if you know any
myself is all i know, and doot + tempex and other streamers
atomicx banned me from his streams
oh lmao
uh well
i tried it
the streams are borderline impossible
however the nordics pass that i have got no idea
how even
Vive tracker dongles aren't detected when plugged into USB hub what do I do
mine looks like that but it's a 3.0 hub but it's plugged into a 2.0
I have mine in an old 2.0 hub and they work fine
They're not plugged in directly like yours though
mine looks like that picture
except i have an extension cable, which plugging the dongle directly into the extension cable they work fine btw
every time i try to play beat saber this appears
Are you playing it on Oculus or steamvr? Which headset are you using/
vive
vive trackers don't work with oculus afaik
and if they do they're not supposed to
problem being i can't pair my trackers when in a usb hub because when i have the controllers paired it tells me max devices, but when not using a usb hub i can connect all 4 at once
So in other words, the wireless receivers aren't working with your USB hub
Try adding one tracker at a time, while your controllers are off
with my controllers off it just pairs the trackers to the headset
oh and i tried a different usb hub same deal
After weeks of waiting, I finally got to pay for my Index stuff, and now I can finally install Alyx
nekopara π
A man of culture
This is my Valve index after 10 months of nearly daily usage. Did it Survive?
Some of my time in usage was pretty rough, but generally it was just daily sometimes 6-8 hour play sessions along with some sleeping in VR if you'd believe that.
Here is an affiliate link to VRCov...
like i have fewer hours than that dude does
but still well over 1000
and the cable holder thingey that he says always breaks is still just fine
he also did a vr hand stand and fell on his head while wearing it
I've done a couple hand stands too but I make sure nothing is tangled or will get caught on something
but he fell on the index
so half of the problems are probably due to a human falling onto it
that's like me kicking a monitor into a wall after 10 hours then writing a review saying it broke after 10 hours
That is also why I don't do it without something like a wall behind me to stop the possible fall
so i wouldn't trust that
Is viveport infinity worth it?
To anyone owning an Index thinking about getting one:
Just keep in mind that the cable is a ticking time bomb. No matter how much you take care of your Index, the cable will over time fail. Mine just started to show the so called "star-field" (aka the screens show little white dots appearing randomly) and I did take good care of my headset
It's a great headset, don't get me wrong, but this is a flaw in the construction of the headset, and I feel like there's next to nothing Valve can do to fix it, unless they re-issue an new way of routing the cable around the headstrap...
i have been doing beat saber for the past few hours with only one break, i fell like i am about to collapse
For one of the songs I'm playing on beat saber, when I play it, it's just a blank, greyish black screen and I can't pause it and exit to the menu, making me close and reopen beat saber. Only the easy mode works and all of my other custom songs work. Any ideas?
My little sisters enjoy playing vr on my rig
Don't leave her alone, she will swing her sword at your whole setup and accidently destroy it
Very true
Let the tempeard glass live
@gentle shuttle join the beat saber modding discord
they should help you with your issue
ranks climbing tho
so
whats it like to use vr without glasses for a glasses user?
is everything kind of out of focus and smooth or what?
Anyone else notice how new oculus devices simply dont exist anymore?
do you mean new releases?
GTX 1650 super + half-life alyx?
ive played it on a 1060 at low
you should be alright on low maybe a few drops here and there
No as in devices. Out of stock everywhere
Rift s and quest came back today and sold instantly so I didn't stand a chance. Looks like I'm sticking with a DK2 and no controllers as ps move sucks ass
yeah its all this corona stuff disrupting supply chains
stock was already really low before so it just meant they were out of stock for ages
Yeah I didnt think just how badly vr would have been affected.
Everywhere is just drained
everything being sold tho is good for vr in the long term tho
its sad how many people want it but cant get it, but this is growth
whats it like to use vr without glasses for a glasses user?
Well, considering that in VR you're eyes will focus on something about 1.5 - 2m away from your face (depending on the headset), VR without glasses is like looking at something that far away without glasses
That's why companies sell Lens Inserts to replace your glasses in VR: https://vroptician.com/
Prescription lens for Virtual Reality Headsets inserts allow to enjoy VR without having to wear additional glasses β more immersion and better field of view!
i wish there were more full games like hla but thats just how it be
Have you played the vr walking dead? Not as good as alyx but still a really good game
i saw the vids but wasnt too sure
is it really good? i wouldnt consider a tie in game to be of the best quality usually
I really enjoyed it since the melee in that game is really well made but the guns sound a bit weak and and the AI of humans isn't super good
My top 3 single player vr games are HL-Alyx, The Walking Dead Saints & Sinners and Boneworks
yeah bw and hla are in my top 3
lone echo is in it also im not sure if walking dead would push it out
blade and sorcery is another fun one but id wait for update 8 to put it in the top 4
also my computer starts lagging when theres more than a few enemies i think its cpu bottleneck
update 8 might improve
nice
@haughty thistle this is a better/cheaper solution for prescription lenses. its one 3d printed part and then some $10 glasses. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1602460 this one is for rift but I'm sure people have done it for other headsets too.
With VR optician, everything is done for you, and they use Zeiss lenses for the glass. So some pretty high quality stuff. Not everyone wants to build their own lens adapters, and cheapo-glasses tend to introduce distortion or are very difficult to clean
Anyone know if there's a program or something that makes it so that someone can get your attention while your in VR? People have called my name and banged on stuff but I never knew because I was so immersed
SteamVR has a feature where it shows a button on your desktop and anyone can go over and click the big button on it, to show a notification on your VR display
I replaced the code for the hmd with the code for a controller. does anyone have the default config file so i can match it with my headset to fix it
Yeah, I wasn't shure how it was called in English. I could've told you the German name for it "Klopf Klopf" xD
I currently have an HP WMR set and last night i was playing beat saber perfectly fine no problems, but today when I wanted to play again, my controllers are connected and paired to bluetooth but are dimly lit and wont track in VR anyone have the same problem or know a fix? i tried updating drivers and the only driver i could find was for the bluetooth dongle i use.
Did you already try new batteries?
You got one? @soft hound I'm thinking about getting an Oculus Quest
i use oculus link more than the quest
@sullen linden it's not CPU bottleneck, it's optimization is part of update 1.0 (the roadmap is u8, u9, u10, 1.0)
Just checked out 200% supersampling on the Vive, its substantially better
Now I just need to replace the lenses with Gear VR ones
Rift S is better then Quest Link for PCVR. If you do however want to use the Portability features of the Quest, obviously, no other headset on the market right now can offer what the Quest does...
@fossil sandal where is the supersampling in settings?
If you can play games in 4k you should be good to go
Its better if u set it per game do
Yeah, some games are more difficult to run then others. I keep my Index set to 100% on my 1080Ti, but depending on your headset and GPU, you can crank it higher, or might wanna leave it at a lower level
Hey so i don't plan to replace my PC but I do think vr games look cool and I'm trying not to spend crazy amounts and I don't know if this even exists but do they make headsets under or $200? Someone told me wmr
I already have a rv supported pc
(I think)
I don't know what kind of connection it is
Should I go over to tech support or tech chat?
Hey so i don't plan to replace my PC but I do think vr games look cool and I'm trying not to spend crazy amounts and I don't know if this even exists but do they make headsets under or $200? Someone told me wmr
@clear heron i would say WMR, i bought my current WMR set from bestbuy like 2 years ago for $200, if you want to test if your pc is vr ready i think there is a vr test on steam and superposition has a vr test too. The connections for WMR is hdmi and usb 3.0 + a bluetooth dongle if you dont have bluetooth already
Ok
I looked into the used market and found a rift for $200 and a vive for $300 and a ton of other rifts for $300 so if I can't get the $200 rift should I get the rive or rift?
if you can get a rift s
if you can get a rift s
@violet charm why?
so like.. anyone use an oculus ques? is it neat?
also rift or classic vive (im guessing that because it's so cheap)
I do have an Oculus Quest. I mainly use it to play VR on the go and as a Backup, in case my Index breaks again. It's pretty cool yeah, but if you really wanna play VR, PCVR is still a lot better and a proper PCVR headset (like the Rift S) will give you a better experience. Quest Link is a little Janky at times (especially with aftermarket cables) and Compression artifacts are noticeable
IDK like I'm not SUPER into VR yet but i'm building a PC soon as I can so I may just get the Rift
i dont want to get a quest because i can't take advantage of my pc and i assume it runs off battery?
Games that are specifically written for the Quest perform really well and also look the part. Ports can be a mixed bag, especially Multiplayer titles like VRChat. The Quest version of VRchat just sucks
Qith Quest Link, yes it does deplete your battery, but since it's also using the power from the USB port, it's not that much (after 3 hours of Quest Link down to 70% from 100%, whereas directly on the Quest it would've depleted down to 30% in Beat Saber)
I wanna Play Half Life Alyx the only game I really want to play. IDK about VR chat yet π
depends what vive you get
VRchat is free, and trust me: once you find your community, it really sucks you in
but oculus quest is better than the originsl rift i think
i think rift s has a graphically advantage over the quest
^ That
i know that rift s requires less cables for set up over the original rift
so on anyother site except offer up the used models of vr are about 400-600 but for some reason on offer up everyone (mostly) is setting for like 200-400
The only benefits you have with a Quest with Link cable over a Rift S are better speakers and a physical IPD slider. Other then that, the Rift S is the superior headset of the two
is this real?
tbh because of the coronavirus lockdown thingy going on in the world people have started price gauging vr tech
in the uk some companies are trying to sell the rift s in the uk for 699 to 799 pound
im lucky as i had got a rift s for christmas
so i avoided the price gauging
Yeah I can only find a Quest for $499 here locally, everywhere else (like amazon ) is at least $200 more
The original Rift, techincally speaking, is still better than Quest Link, as the Rift S has actual headphones build into it's headstrap and the CV1 Touch controllers are superior to the cheaped-out one on the Rift S and Quest. But then again, Screen and FOV wise the newer ones are better
well from what i know oculus have patented new vr controllers and vr gloves
so im looking forward to see what they do with that
is the rift s tracking good? because it's inside out right?
I still have a bad feeling about some things that Oculus is doing, as the Zucc seems to wanting to cost-down VR as much as possible, while building up a Software eco-system alΓ‘ Apple
this is a example of price gauging with the rift s
lucky enough oculus have there own store on amazon
Funny thing: Here in germany all things VR have been sold out pretty much everywhere. You can only get them from Scalpers on Ebay...
i found a rift s back in october
at a john lewis store
but they treat there boxed tech awfully everything you see in a box there is normally damaged as all hell
(Translation: Delivery starting 3. May 2020)
the cv1 is a really old rift
worse than just the rift?
it came if im correct before oculus go
I'd suggest going for the Rift S if possible
ah ok
what about the vive? because someone is selling it for $350
The OG Rift (aka Rift CV1) requires pretty much in all cases a seperate USB controller card
ohhhhhhhh the CV1 is the classic
i do believe that oculus need to create a full body tracking set up like vive has
there kind of lagging behind in that regard
The OG Vive isn't all that bad of a headset, as it's a cheap entry into the SteamVR tracking eco-system. If you are looking into Fullbody-Tracking I'd say go for it
im looking forward to haptic suits and stuff like that
but there way too expensive atm
The thing with oculus is, They coulΓΆd've don FBT very easy if they had stuck with the camera tracking system. But doing FBT with Inside-out is really hard to do (probably requires cameras on eah of the tracking points?)
how much are vive controllers and sensors because someone is selling just the headset for $200
oh what the heck
why is it so long
300$ for a pair of base stations and 300$ for a pair of Index controllers (better value than Vive wands)
You can find a pair of Vive wands for 200$ if you're lucky, but they are very primitive if you compare them to the Index controllers
ok
some controllers which seem interesting to me are
Today I am finally checking out the new etee VR controllers! How well does hand and finger tracking actually work? Find out in this video!

these are the gloves i mentioned
well a video about them
I've seen another video about the Etees. They do sound interesting, but I think their biggest downfall is that they don't have any buttons, and thus are pretty much useless for most games
And you have to keep in mind that they are supposed to cost not much less then the Index controllers...

if im correct this is the youtube channel for the companie making them

personally im looking forward to seeing how companies handle vr gloves

3:27 this companies gloves look pretty good
3:27 is the timemark where thrillseeker talks about the gloves
it was a vive for $150 with everything included
should i try and get a vive or rift s
Depends on the Price, and what you want you want to do with it.
Fullbody-Tracking? Vive.
Easy Upgrades? Vive.
Easy Setup? Rift S.
Native oculus Game Support? Rift S.
Physical IPD adjustment? Vive.
i mean what are the benefits of full body tracking?
you also got to be careful with vive
from what i remember they are releasing tons of new vive headsets
With FBT you can be more expressive in VRchat and can kick enemies in blades and sorcery. Not many games support it yet, but it's pretty amazing when you do play a game that supports it
Yeah, pretty much all of the Vive Cosmos headsets suck in terms of tracking. The only one that is at least usable is the Cosmos Elite, but that ships with the interior Vive wands and is almost as pricy as the Index...
how much is the index
999$US or 1079β¬
price wise for a new headset
And it's only available through STeam
oculus rift s is the best one price wise atm
Yeah, Rift S has the best Price in terms of what you get
and how much is the avg price of a rift s
oh and also can you adjust the lens to work with your eyes?
also all the rifts are sold out
The Rift S has a set physical IPD. I have an IPD of 67 and was able to use the Rift S just fine
well you can adjust the rift s
but its done in software
i think quest allows you to do it with a physical slider
is it worth? or should i go new for like 100 more
wait the rift s is $600 except Lenovo is selling for $400
Used like new rift s $350, do I get?
I just got the hp reverb and OH BOY is the resolution AWESOME. Haven't seen full gpu ram being used ever but HL: Alyx on high uses all 11gb.
What's my best bet to get a rift s at the moment, practically everything is sold out, i got an in stock notification thing but it seems to only be going into "pre-order" every 5-7 days, not sure if that would even get me one without taking a few months.
Guys used but very new rift s for $350 do I buy? Will warranty be an issue?
Possibly, if you go to RMA it you might have to go through the original owner.
Alien: Isolation is only $2 on steam. It was pretty good with the vr mod.
very easy to install vr mod also.
Possibly, if you go to RMA it you might have to go through the original owner.
@tulip tendon the warranty is void of i buy it but im asking if i should take such a risk
nvm the dude changed his price to $400
i might as well get the rift refurbished from rift right?
Anybody heard any rumors on anything new? I really want to see an Oculus Quest 2 with a beefier ARM chip.
I was so sad to hear it has a hard time running ALYX. If it wasn't for that it would have been an easy recommendation.
@echo hazel For sure not allowed
It's the original rift
Isn't that the dk
Anyone else here start exploring Virtual Market 4 in VR chat yet. It is really amazing. I explored 4 of the worlds so far.
thats the dk1 I think he ordered the CV1 if it was refurbished. I personally would of wanted the rift s because of the sensors and whatnot. But it should be pretty good.
like the flat one?
@hexed notch no idk just the one they are selling refurbished right now
Oculus Rift CV1
thats the dk1 I think he ordered the CV1 if it was refurbished. I personally would of wanted the rift s because of the sensors and whatnot. But it should be pretty good.
@tulip tendon im too poor for the rift s
understandable, the og rift is pretty good. try and get a 3rd sensor for full room tracking. @clear heron
Then you need 4 usb ports lol. The main downfall for CV1. Other than that, the rift has by far the best controllers.
naw
dont get me wrong the rift controllers are nice
but they arent anywhere near the index controllers
I have mixed feelings about the index controllers. Tech is cool, not nearly as comfortable as the touch controllers IMO.
you do have to wiggle them a bit more than the touch controllers to get them to fit perfectly
ya they aren't bad but I am just saying as far as comfort I prefer the touch controllers. Also index is $$$. even the controllers. Cost as much as his headset did.
I wouldn't go back either after seeing how much better the optics were on rift s. I now have the reverb and the resolution is fantastic. Never used all 11gigs on my gpu before until this vr headset.
I didn't know you use vr on a Mac
smh
I feel like there aren't many Macs that are even vr capable
well the ones with vega 56s should be alright
anyone with a 580 could theoretically do it to
I'm just gunna drop this here to flex a tiny bit: https://youtu.be/BIUD3i6euPE
It might not be clean, but I still cleared it :P (true start is at 0:20, lost tracking on my first attempt)
The cross over patterns are pretty sweet
You can download the song here: https://beatsaver.com/beatmap/89a5
I managed to beat the beat saber level (albeit sloppily) that Linus has been struggling with for ages now. The cross over patterns are pretty sweet when you figure 'em out imo
@formal urchin not using enough wirst to get swings on upswings
do that and youll instantly get better
what controllers you using?
The thing with VR on the Mac is, there is litterally only one VR title on Steam that runs on the Mac. So not really surprising that they would drop support for it...
That Beat Saber level looks pretty easy to be honest
I'm on quest and I use the claw grip. Lately I've been having alot of issues with loosing tracking, so it is what it is (first try I failed thanks to loosing tracking on my left side).
It is pretty easy.. Until the stream starts ~2 minutes in. The hard bits are the crossover pattetns in the middle of the streams
Overall, I think the map would get about 6 stars on scoresaver if it were ranked
Oops, sorry
Moonlight Sonata 3rd Movement
By Loloppe
Expert+ of course
That gives an idea I guess?
Err, I'd have to check
@soft hound have you got it on scoresaber? should be on there
ie heres mine
I just played a bunch of 6 star maps and I think you are right Denya_. That map is probably around 5.9 stars
also, this map shows how I usually play: https://youtu.be/z9Sbo_3Juxc
yeah, the fact youre holding an FC and not holding an SS shows your actual acc is holding you back a little. Play a few acc maps and get it up and youll start shooting better in no time
but loops mapping
ill do a run of this map in a sec
is my msi gtx960 with 4G ram good enough to play VR game
Has anyone tried using Vive Wireless with the X570 Aorus series motherboards?
Damn that is pretty damn impressive. It is a grear map though.
Do you have any accuracy maps you'd recommend?
@misty pine 1060 is considered the lowest for a "good" vr experience. Sure your 960 is good enough...I mean even a mobile sd821 is good enough but is doesn't mean a great experience. It might be a tad nauseating playing at a fluctuating fps. I'd suggest you upgrade your GPU to a more modern one first then see if you'd like to get a VR headset later on.
an RX 590 8 gig is a pretty decent budget vr card if your looking to run games without them looking like a potato that went through a furnace
okay buddy, just play Minecraft VR, those potatoes look perfect!
actually the smooth loco in vivecraft makes me a bit dizzy, but in other games like rec room, H3VR i dont have problems
I cant do smooth loco in low refreshrate vr for long, i get sick after about an hour @grizzled nebula
the thing is my framerate is good, always 80+
Yeah my frames sit anywhere from 90 to 300 fps depending on the game
Its just the low refresh rate isn't convincing enough for my brain so i get sick
Main reason why im upgrading to an index
I don't know what you have now but index probably has a higher resolution so that is going affect your frames
Ya, steamvr doesn't scale games well for my hp reverb. (2160p per screen) I get mad lag if I don't go through and adjust stuff.
Rift s @sullen linden which runs at 80hz
Well the added hz should help then
Rift s also has higher requirements than the index btw, which i find a little strange lol
Funny, because the index has a much higher refresh rate..
The Index is indeed harder to run for the GPU. However I can imagine that the Inside-Out Tracking of the Rift S could potentially be more demanding on the CPU. I don't know however if the positional Tracking indeed runs on the PC or is calculated on the Headset with an ASIC
I'm pretty sure that it's calculated on your pc
oculus home is more heavier to run than steam vr so maybe thats it?
hi question. my friend want to get a vr headset for beat saber and a few other games, but he doesnt have a good pc. what headset would work for him? i was thinking th eocculas go, but im not sure if it has the two controllers needdd
quest @quiet saffron
many thanks friend
np π
and once he gets a better rig he can tether it to his pc and play pc games
also other question
when im using my vive, the lenses look, at mest i can describe it, like theres a snow effect. i think it might be a problem with the lenses but im not sure
and yeah, ive been trying to convince him to get a pc in general cuz hes on this chrome book from 2015 i think
oh god a chrome book lol
also other question
when im using my vive, the lenses look, at mest i can describe it, like theres a snow effect. i think it might be a problem with the lenses but im not sure
too bright?
no, i tried that. im not great with words so hard to explain, but its with both lenses, but they arent the same if that makes sense, like if i rubbed my fingers on the lenses
if that makes sence
cloudy, its cloudy, thats the word im looking for
have you tried wiping them with a microfiber cloth?
i have, yeah
hmm i never encountered that on a vive, thats... weird
yeah...
im thinking maybe something got on them.. do you happen to know what the lenses are made out of, i want to try using some ipa to clean them
pure glass iirc
oh, i thought they were a plastic
my rift ones are glass and so are the ones in the index
heck, google says its plastic
Cleaning the headset lenses
π
`well parden my french but god damn its more clear than when i bought it
cool, its fixed
thanks for the help smokey
70% ipa
sweet thanks @quiet saffron
so in the general chat, i was told that a 1080 Ti would be enough to do vr on a Original Rift. Im just wanting more than one source. Is 1080 enough for what ill be doing?
Just simply playing in VRChat and Beatsaber and games like that
I have a 1080Ti and it's enough for the Index. The Rift CV1 is less heavy on the hardware as well, so expect stellar performance. With VRchat your CPU is generally more important than the GPU
Ok. Im gonna have a Ryzen 5 3600. Should that be enough?
Yeah, it should be enough
thx
It's based on this Wallpaper I made: https://www.deviantart.com/chickenbread-designs/art/NZXT-Kraken-773283128
(which in turn is based on the NZXT Kraken X.2 cooler design)
Iirc, a 580 would be enough for beat saber and vrchat, it's what I had with my give a while ago and it even ran h3 and a few other games pretty well that were pretty demanding
right, i know
this was the first time ive used any kind of solvent, and the problem i had is gone now
so its not the coating
any1 know if there are color settings, brightness, contrast etc on the Vive pro
and if so how do i access them
If you disable direct display mode in the developer settings in steamvr, you can change it in nvidia control panel. Thats the only way I know to do it.
it will switch right back to normal if you go back to direct display mode though, so its not ideal
Isn't there a brightness slider in steamvr settings?
Or it might have been in the steamvr advanced settings I have installed
I am assuming if I lower the textures of HL:Alyx that should help with video ram usage? I get a warning every time I launch that it is low. I have it on medium.
It runs fine but I can tell some areas it struggles and dips lower than 90fps.
What's the best way to clean my facepadding for my oculus quest, was actually thinking about throwing it in the washing machine. Of course after i put it out of the quest xD
About the Brightness slider in SteamVR: there is indeed a brightness slider. However I don't remember if it's there on the Vive. I have an Index and I can adjust the brightness of the backlight (doesn't work on SteamVR foreign headsets like Oculus and WMR headsets)
I use vive pro, and I dont see a brightness slider anywhere
maybe its headset specific? idk why that would be

#10 uk, nice
tyy :D
@sand swan brightness is only for valve index if i'm correct
hey does anyone know what usb card Linus used to fix the issues with the vive tracker pods in the most recent video?
ive been thinking about getting VR but the problem is my eyes are slightly sensitive to light so will it hurt my eyes ?
@flat monolith how do u get score on that? i look at my profile and some say i get score and some say have 0
ranked maps
With Beat Savior, you can find maps, mappers, players and track your stats related to Beat Saber
find em here
ah thanks
no worries
@flat monolith any easier expert songs u'd recommend? :-)
Expert? With rank or without?
with rank
i didnt know those leaderboards existed, i have a mod that shows like highscores but the ranking is cool
Want it more rewarding for PP or more for accuracy?
So like either higher numbers so rank goes up or higher numbers so you can improve at hitting higher scores on notes
Yeah it's all to do with scoresaber, they have a public server which shows all maps new and qualified
50 but like im not bad at the game at all
I seeeeee
Let me have a look
If you want one of the hardest experts there's this
Setien made by Fraies and Souk
oof
Illness lilin
These are between 7-9 stars btw
If that helps
Should be able to get their beat saver link and download them
Try those 3, LMK how you get on
For reference I got a 93 on setien today, 90 on illness lilin and 91 on tierra
how do i use the id i normal just search songs up and do 1 clickj install;
Oh the webpage on the right one of the links will open beat saver
The one that's a block
Click on that and it'll open that website
does it give u more pp the more u play then?
The more ranked maps you play yes and the higher scores you get
Over time they will get weighted
Hence as someone in T130 (me) it takes me a long time to earn more then 10pp where as you it can take about 10 mins
i see cool thx
No worries, tell me how you get on!
@fresh berry how'd it go?
havnt tried them yet just woke up to start mapping some songs
ill probs try in an hour or so
@flat monolith good songs, a good challenge for me thanks!
no worries!
Damn this do be kinda cool tho

pretty nice
yo who wants to play level 6666
@rancid cloud I managed to find the PCIe card Linux uses because of the latest video, it took a bit because he doesn't show off the part number that well but it looks like it's either not available to the average consumer or it's no longer being made
the next best thing is probably this two controller one but it's expensive
https://www.amazon.com/Sonnet-Allegro-SuperSpeed-10Gbps-Connectors/dp/B07LG5TS6H
I have my full body trackers connected to an external usb hub and they're working fine so I wonder if it's because of my motherboard that I'm not running into any bandwith issues
can anyone give me expert+ songs in beat saber?
You probably have good controllers, I have two of mine plugged into a pcie usb card, and my third plugged into a usb port on my mother board where the controller only shares two ports. Type A and Type C, I don't have a use for type C rn, so...
I found this, the vr related reviews seem good.

thx bud
I have been getting headset glitching, it will spin 180 or lose tracking, controlers are fine. I have rift with 4 sensors, any fixes?
add 4 more sensors lol
tracking's probably dying, happens to my Quest and with my Rift S
I know that, how do i fix
anyone know how to improve virtual desktop experience on quest. My pc is connected via ethernet and I'm using 5GHz for the quest, but sometimes when i boot it up it works even better than my link cable, and other times it's so delayed its nauseating. Thanks, and if anyone responds with any tips please @ me so i get the notification. βΊοΈ
lol
I bought a almost new vive for 300$. I could just buy controllers and be good right? Or are there any benefits to upgrading the towers (and obviously there are many advantages to upgrading to the index headset, but I know those)
check compatibility with stuff
oh apparently index and controllers support both so you are fine
do i lose any features? I don't really see the difference between the 2 different base stations
no feature difference
the new ones can cover a larger area
and you can have more than 2
you can't have more than 2 with the old ones? that is interesting
also iirc they need to be set up with line of sight between them
where the new lighthouses only have to both see the headset
guess what i suffer with a psvr headset
because im too broke for an index
and god if they could have tried to fix the shaking problem
like i said, I got an OG vive for 300$ used
and i think your PSVR will be usable on the ps5 too?
so it could be a good thing to hold onto
if i can then afford the ps5
im gonna make a joke
my pc is ready but my wallet isnt
the joke kraken has been released
my pc from 2012 is able to run VR surprisingly
i built a pc this year and it can run vr
I hope so lol
What is the best way to record VR gameplay in your opinion? If you follow any VR youtubers, or do videos yourself, what setup is in your opinion the best experience for viewers?
my left touch controller (2nd gen) (rift s and quest version) has lost vibration, anyone know why? or a fix?
Recording the dominant eye is better imo, so if you aim down sights or something it doesn't look weird
Also that third person camera is cool, but a lot more work
@zinc timber So if I was aiming down with my left eye (which I do, since my right eye is a bit rubbish), i would use the left view, that makes sense! Regarding the third person camera, could you possible share an example, if it's not too much of a hassle? I'd like to see a good example of how that can be achieved
Can you run job simulator on gtx 1650 with decent expierience?
@cerulean thistle me if u know
vr p0rn anyone
bruh im getting an oculus rift s soon
i have an hp windows mixed reality with a 1060
@sullen linden I can run it fine on my comp with a 1060 on rift s
3rd Person cameras looks cool, but means that the viewer has less visibility in beatsaber. There I'd prefer FPV, but perhaps with smooth camera on and a high FOV
does anyone know where I can get a rift s or quest
they seem to out of stock everywhere
you need a greenscreen for the third person camera thing, so it's not very accessible
here's a guy doing it

This was one of the most challenging installs in a LONG time...
You actually don't need Vive Trackers, but without them, your lower body will look like all people without FBT in VRC
just got a record of 113 in SUPERHOT VR
They added vulkan to HL:Alyx
Was anyone elses HL:Alyx install broken by the workshop update?
cause it just removed the HLVR exe from my install
ive tried a full reinstall and a verify integrity of game files
neither did anything
when you dont have a vr :
Opens and runs fine for me
No matter what you get the issue will be your internet
Nothing you can really do about that
And the Asus is plenty overkill for your internet
Evyone here know where i can get a Oculus rift Cable?
You can now just use the charging cable, but it is still in the beta so you might have issues.
so I need a hint of what I should get? I want to get top of the line VR but I also want the best bang for your buck. I don't necessarily have a budget at the moment cause I just want to know average pricing. I want something that brings my immersion heavily and should keep it without having to upgrade every other year or so?
Anyone have tips? I want of course half-life Alyx, some war sim thing, will be playing vrchat and some 3d sculpting in blender through VR
I also have a ryzen 5 2600 and rtx 2070 super for the specs if you needed to know
Right now Index is probably the best as far as top of the line. Best bang for the buck is the rift s.
If you can find an rift s they are $400
index is 1k
Does index come with the fancy controllers and everything needed?
Like the trackers and the very fancy finger controllers? I forgot what their called
if you buy that kit yes.
they sell everything individually and as kits.
but they are on backorder also
8 weeks
Dang! 8 weeks?? I mean ha ha, gives me time to make some money to buy games for the thing? π
Do you know how the tracking is with only 2 base stations? Like is it easy to turn around 360Β° and still have really good tracking?
Should be fine as long as nothing is blocking them.
Is there a good way to put them high up on my walls in a apartment? Or can I only drill them in? :(
it only requires a power outlet
i mean you can get tripods
or double side tape
or drill
whatever ya want
Okay, Yea my apartment is very very stingy about holes in the walls π
As far as I can tell, adding more base stations with SteamVR tracking only really does something if you have a very large playspace (more then 5m across) or want to use Fullbody tracking with Vive Trackers (since they get occluded from the base stations much more easier then hand controllers or the headset)
hmm
*they can leave residue sometimes
Anyone else have a problem with the Vive Cosmos Elite's mic not working?
@ItsAltair2 thank you for this, the worst accuracy and misses ive had in ages and i love it https://t.co/pQDtkYzKMW
Do you ever just
hand tracking for the oculus quest is coming out of beta on the 28!!!!! : )
where did you find out about that!!!!! : )
so is like every vr headset just sold out as well?
Not every headset. The Vive Cosmos is still available, although I would not recommend getting one. It's tracking is just atrocious...
havent even heard of the vive cosmos
you dont want to
quest>cosmos
An idea came to my mind.
I think i saw at one point someone using openvr and adjusting some stuff
And like by a mistake they made the head being tracked positionally not with the headset but with one of the vive trackers
however, rotation was still from the headset.
This gave me an idea that could make all 3dof headsets such as the still very good Pimax 4k (which lacks tracking tho) usable
Basically strapping a vive tracker on the hmd itself and then tweaking stuff in openvr advanced settings. I think this way we could turn pretty much any 3dof headset into a vive.
Thatβs really the only option right now, with them all being sold out

wireless standalone, yes
wireless PC, no
your only real option for wireless pc is the vive with the wireless thingy
and cosmos
Yeah, but it's still recommended to go with a USB3 cable. I have a .9m Anker USB Type-C to Type-A cable with a 5m extension from Ugreen, and have 0 issues with Quest Link
I bought a rift s while I had only a 1050 4gb and an i7 7700hq
@feral hill
No that's fine
and cosmos

Hello! I have a ryzen 5 1600 and 1070 ti, looking to play half life alyx and other various vr games. Do I need to upgrade my CPU for that?
I'm looking to get a oculus rift S for reference
its not required
That CPU is fine for most VR Games out there
even HL: A?
yea
probably want to upgrade for an index
but 90 and lower hz should work
@feral hill
No that's fine
@flat monolith bruh it couldn't even run anything at low lol
how
yeah
im just gonna use my macbook instead
Radeon Pro 5500M should be fine in windows

bruh i used to think having a $50 box to put my ipod in was good
oculus rift s is really good for the price
guys i am planing on buying the rift s should i go for it?
sure
i have an i5 8600k oc to 5gh and 2070 oc so yea
hi my freind and i want to play pavlov shack together how would we go about doing that
Just saw what the Samsung Odyssey+ is back in stock but for $499, is VR worth $500?
Just saw what the Samsung Odyssey+ is back in stock but for $499, is VR worth $500?
@sullen linden
dont get a wmr headset
Wmr is good when it's cheap
Why not? i just found it for $331, and ive heard its works very well
Oddessey+ was like $200 or something during black Friday
mhm
But rift s is $400
but they are sold out everywhere
wait
dont ruin your vr experience
i say this as a rift s and quest owner
be patient
dont ruin how your perception of how vr will be like with wmr
Whats wrong with wmr though?
poor tracking, unreliable service, discontinued for the majority, terrible support and once again terrible tracking @sullen linden
hmm alright
Yeah I'd stay away from wmr unless you can get it REALLY cheap
I wanz to get an ocolus so i can play Beat Saber
Rift s mustard race.

Tbh, i should probably sell it, because having the extra cash would be pretty good rn.
Doth thou have a different headset, or just the rift?
Just the Rift S, I rarely play it because the batteries get drained even when I'm not using it, and my play space is a mess rn.
Ah, I see. Makes sense if you don't use it that much
Is all of vr moving to inside out tracking
Index isn't
Inside out is probably cheaper
Techincally index is inside out, they are lighthouses not sensors
they contain required active components
and they are on the outside
therefore are outside in
wow this is so real!
I personally think, as long as Inside-Out is not as good as the SteamVR tracking System (Index, OG Vive, etc.), I don't see that it will be fully replaced by Inside-Out. I've tried many headsets in the past, both Inside-Out and Outside-In, and I can safely say that while Inside-Out is good enough for the general consumer, it's not on a level of quality a true enthusiast would like to see completely taking over the market

What's the best VR headset for a desktop?
valve index, most likely
^
Should i switch from a rift S to a og vive? It's been giving me a shit ton of problems ever since I've got it.
I mean, I've had zero complaints with my Vive in terms of any issues. Though you'll be stepping down in resolution, but get better colours and tracking, so it really depends on how bad the issues you're having are, and if you can get a Vive for cheap (also the controllers are pretty mediocre on the Vive)
Vive is compatible with index stuff, so that's also nice
did anyone hear about the quest leak yet
I mean I can make the same leak. Next gen with better optics and faster display.
should i get a rift s as my first headset paired with a 1070 and 2700x
@upper stone depends on use cases etc
i have one and its good
and itll be good for you with those specs
