narrow root
#

gooooooooooooood

twilit sage
#

Yea lol

narrow root
#

now i only have to have enough extesion cables

twilit sage
#

I would have gotten the vive but the comfort and the controllers were a deal breaker. I still hate that I need cables for the sensors on my oculus.

#

@narrow root wdym? Extensions for the HMD?

limber pond
#

@twilit sage What extensions cords do you use for hdmi and usb from the headset?

narrow root
#

no , the power for the lighthouses

sullen linden
#

Ohhhh @narrow root you mean extension strips

#

Like the plug sockets

#

Not actual wires?

twilit sage
#

I use the same ones that sakkura uses. Ugreen 2m passive ones. However be aware that your Mobo might not deliver enough power for passive to work.

sullen linden
#

@narrow root you mean this don't you

narrow root
#

yes

sullen linden
#

One thing that I would say is make sure you turn your lighthouses off when you aren't using them

#

they make a whirring noise when they are turned on

twilit sage
#

Huh, interesting

narrow root
#

my pc i so loud i wont hear that

twilit sage
#

Get the deluxe audio strap Btw. Much better comfort!

sullen linden
#

It's only subtle but if you are using it in your bedroom you'll definitely be able to hear it

#

when you sleep

narrow root
#

k

#

how can i shut them of , just shut the power off?

sullen linden
#

Yeah

#

And make sure you firmware update everything

narrow root
#

what?

twilit sage
#

Lmao

#

By the way does the lab crash on the robot repair for anyone?

sullen linden
#

Well when you get sent the controllers and lighthouses, they are only going to be running the firmware they had when they were packaged

#

it's been out for a while now so there are updates for the actual devices

twilit sage
#

Doesn't it auto update during setup?

sullen linden
#

How can it

#

It's firmware

#

Oh

twilit sage
#

Setup i meant

sullen linden
#

I think it might? I can't remember if mine did or not

#

Just make sure it does @narrow root

twilit sage
#

It should update during set up

narrow root
#

i dont even know what you mean

sullen linden
#

Are you sure you should really get a VR headset then

narrow root
#

what is a firmware

twilit sage
#

@narrow root all equipment has its firmware, kinda like windows for a computer.

narrow root
#

oh

twilit sage
#

It needs to update it in case there were bugs in it or they improved it

sullen linden
#

@narrow root Have you ever updated something like a playstation or Xbox and it's said in big red bold letters

#

"Do not turn off"

narrow root
#

no just windows

twilit sage
#

That's software update

#

Not firmware

sullen linden
#

No it's not

#

Printers do the same thing

#

if you turn them off during a firmware update..

#

byebye

twilit sage
#

...?

sullen linden
#

They stop working completely

twilit sage
#

Consoles don't update FW, only sw

#

The only FW they update are controllers or accesories like the kinect

sullen linden
#

That's what I meant

#

Devices you have to connect

#

Like the lighhouses and the controllers

#

It will specifically tell you not to turn off during a firmware update

#

because if you do it totally wrecks the device

wooden token
#

@twilit sage Thanks! I have a Rift, but did pick up Skyrim VR

twilit sage
#

Oh buddy you're going to need to provide context on this one

#

I've already forgotten what you're answering to LOL

wooden token
#

I picked up Marvel Powers United VR and requested a refund after 40 minutes haha

sullen linden
#

@wooden token I don't know why but the only game that gives me motion sickness is Fallout 4

wooden token
#

@twilit sage You mentioned subscribing to Viveport

sullen linden
#

I'm fine with Skyrim though

twilit sage
#

Wait how did you get skyrim thru viveport

sullen linden
#

You can't

#

But you an get Fallout 4 for free if you subscribe to viveport

wooden token
#

I got Skyrim via Steam sale

twilit sage
#

Ohh

#

Ok

sullen linden
#

nice delete

wooden token
#

I figured Viveport was for people who only had HTC Vive

twilit sage
#

No its cross compatible

sullen linden
#

I have a HTC Vive and I don't even use it 😂

gleaming grove
#

@sullen linden How old are you?

wooden token
#

Cross compatible? Nice! I'll have to look into it then.

#

Just picked up Transference as well, looking forward to diving into that. I loathed Marvel United.

twilit sage
#

I'm betting under discords ToS age

sullen linden
#

Lol is this what happens when people buy toothpaste VR headsets 😬

twilit sage
#

Get beat saber

#

Yeah he's under 15

wooden token
#

@twilit sage I've had Beat Saber since day one. Prob my fave VR game.

twilit sage
#

Oooo

#

I beat my first expert+ LVL yesterday

#

M83 midnight City

#

Very easy for an expert+ imo

wooden token
#

Nice!!!

twilit sage
#

Accounting+ is amazing too

wooden token
#

Nice...I've had my eye on that one

twilit sage
#

Tip: let the characters talk until the end

#

The ammount of work they put in to it is amazing

sullen linden
#

Tip: play fallout 4 😩 👌

twilit sage
sullen linden
#

😂

twilit sage
#

@limber pond since my ceiling is made of cement I can't mount a hook

#

I Jerry rigged this instead.

#

The cable for the HMD runs to a lamp where its fixed

sullen linden
#

omega lol

twilit sage
#

The sensor is mounted like that because I have nowhere else to put it and hey it works

sullen linden
#

@twilit sage dab with me in VR :^)

gleaming grove
twilit sage
#

Rest are mounted on 3d printed mounts in each corner except for the fourth one

#

And the wire for one of the sensors is held to the ceiling by duct tape because again, it's made of cement

narrow root
#

thats actually a good idea

twilit sage
#

You can't just hammer a spike with the round cable guide thing into it lol

#

Which one?

#

Duct tape is definitely not a good idea. I'm going to install cable channels in December

narrow root
#

better then nothing

twilit sage
#

The tape will come off with the paint of the ceiling and make it (paint) crack further

#

Don't want to get an active extension to route it around either, because that too expensive compared to installing cable channels

#

Those boxy things where you hide cables

#

I'll go play some beat saber or something 👋

sullen linden
#

Awh

#

@narrow root When you get a Vive, you should play VRChat

#

and pretend to be Ugandan Knuckles 😂

narrow root
#

i already have it installed

sullen linden
#

:DDD

narrow root
#

i also have slimerancher vr installed

limber pond
#

@twilit sage Looks pretty good!

#

I'm gonna play some superhot

#

👋

sullen linden
#

Have fun xP

twilit sage
#

@rugged walrus Nevermind, the issue persists

#

Like its weird as well

#

it will be fine for 30 min and then just bam, start blacking out after that

#

first it will be once every like 5 min, then it ramps up until its just black

#

I did not have this issue at ALL when i first set up my oculus

#

WITH the extensions

#

Like I usually wouldnt mind but in beat saber its really off putting and just makes me quit playing for the session

#

Im wondering if its a USB issue or HDMI?

rugged walrus
#

if it blacks out I guess it seems more like an HDMI thing than USB

wooden token
#

So are you all happy w/Viveport? Worth $40 a year?

sullen linden
#

@wooden token I don't use Viveport

wooden token
#

Ok. I think I'll do a 3 month subscription just to get Fallout 4

stoic bear
#

So a friend just got an HTC Vive, and we've been having issues with the controllers disconnecting. anyone here had this issue and a potential fix?

fringe agate
#

What good vr games for oculus rift should I get?

rugged walrus
#

Lone Echo and Beat Saber should be near the top of the list

gleaming grove
#

Did anybody try out Zero Caliber? Thoughts?

sullen linden
#

Hey @stoic bear

#

Are you still awake? I've got the HTC Vive

#

If the controllers keep disconnecting then you need you make sure the lighthouses and facing eachother properly at diagonally-opposite sides of the ceiling

heavy swallow
#

Finally got Fallout 4 VR can't wait to see how it is.

twilit sage
#

@gleaming grove I've played the demo and I liked it a lot. Locomotion can make most people sick, but for me it just made me disoriented at times. Play the demo and see for yourself!

stoic bear
#

Sorry @sullen linden, we were just trying to get them all set up, turned out they needed firmware updates and were just being difficult, but we got them working in about a half hour, thanks though!

sullen linden
#

Oh @stoic bear sweet glad that's all it needed, I had to firmware update all my stuff recently 😛

stoic bear
#

Cool cool!

limber pond
#

Any good autumn deals I really should get?

proven void
#

do you guys know any types of mounts for the rift sensors

rugged walrus
#

if you unscrew the base, there's a standard threaded mount

wanton raptor
#

Does all vr games support both vive and rift?

strange tusk
#

Most do but they both have some special games that are for their own

wanton raptor
#

But all steam vr games do?

strange tusk
#

I can’t say all vr games cause I wouldn’t know but I do know for sure most games do

rugged walrus
#

SteamVR itself supports the Rift

wanton raptor
#

Im thinking of buying a vr headset but dont know which one to buy. The rift is cheaper, so I might go with that. What do you think?

strange tusk
#

It’s pretty okay I have the htc vive but I’ve had it for a year and would of gotten something better

rugged walrus
#

Rift has the best controllers at the moment, and the price is good

twilit sage
#

Ok so im wanting to solve the HDMI issue with my rift. I have an HDMI 2 cable that came with my Steam Link (2m) and all i need now is a repeater. Do I just buy any repeater or are there specifics that I need to consider?

#

For example this one repeater I found on amazon.de (SCL HDMI 2.0 Repeater) supports up to 2160p/60hz. AFAIK Rift runs about that but at 90hz?

#

Theres also one locally that supports up to 4096x2160 / 30Hz

#

Was reading up some reddit posts, decided to buy the same one that everyone was suggesting locally on sale

#

should be here on friday

twilit sage
#

Welp, no Vr for 2 weeks

limber pond
#

😭

twilit sage
#

At least its entirely free

#

Besides, Ring of Elysium is too much fun

limber pond
#

Could anyone help me out?

#

When I put on my rift I can hear sound for a second or so, then it becomes quiet

#

It’s in all the games

#

Checked all my drivers

#

Nothing is working

#

@ me if you know a fix 😞😭

ivory parrot
#

@limber pond is windows changing your audio device

limber pond
#

It jumps from my headset to my rift when I launch oculus

ivory parrot
#

Make sure it stays there

limber pond
#

Didn’t help....

ivory parrot
#

Odd

#

Is rift muting your audio

#

Try changing usb ports

sullen linden
#

Does Unity support VR?

gleaming grove
#

Yes

sullen linden
#

Noice! I will try to make somthing

twilit sage
#

@sullen linden 100 usd feels like a rip off but its much better than the default strap

#

I would pay 60 usd max if it were me but it retails at 119

#

@limber pond try reinstalling the oculus sw, set rift audio as default comms and sound device in windows sound settings

limber pond
#

Already tried all of that 😦

twilit sage
#

Weird. Its not an HMD related issue though.

strange tusk
#

I’d rather pay for a wireless headphones or ear buds for the vr experience instead of the audio strap for the vive

spark isle
#

who can hook me up with a oculus

feral sand
#

Where are you and what's your budget?

twilit sage
#

@strange tusk No, its not just the headphones. The strap is rigid unlike the cloth that comes with the vive.

#

Thats why im suggesting it

strange tusk
#

well i suggest to not get it cause its not worth it but remember its for the person to decide whether or not to get it

ivory parrot
#

I rec getting wireless headset

#

I use one because tpcast is silly

full lotus
#

The oculus strap is actually great

A) the oculus is lighter overall

B) the rigid strap distributes the weight evenly around your head which makes it waayyyy more comfortable than the cloth straps of the vive

naive torrent
#

Hey guys, I want to know which vr headset should I get? I haven't done anything related to vr nor do I know someone who can tell me about it

sullen linden
#

I use my oculus with wireless headphones and still prefer the oculus. The vive was very clunky to me and just never sat right on my head. My cables are pretty clean, but I had to run an extension underneath my rug for one of my sensors. I have 3 sensors on oculus and used 3 on vive, and I can’t tell the difference between the two in regards to tracking performance

#

I got it from my neighbor and he went all out for his vr simulators

#

If it was “very” choppy, you might have been doing something wrong. I helped my friend setup his pc and oculus, and it played very nicely on 2 sensors until I reached for something on the ground or turned around

#

Ya vive no doubt will work in more situations right away, but with a little setup, oculus will work in almost any setup even with two sensors (obviously no 360 in any setup with 2)

fringe agate
#

Im planning on getting a rift. Should I get a third sensor for a 6.5 feet by 9 feet play space

#

On there website tho it says that it was experimental but 2 sensor 360 dose work. You just need the sensors in opposite corners

#

Ok

#

Thanks

sullen linden
#

@fringe agate you can definitely try to setup 2 for 360 degree tracking but it doesn’t work for everyone

#

There are a few YouTube tutorials how to do it but it’s pretty much up to your room shape and size

fringe agate
#

Ok. Thanks

sullen linden
#

sup

#

i have a vr lol

whole fossil
#

i played thumper in vr instead of the switch and god its better in vr

gleaming grove
#

@sullen linden you made anything? shroudWat

rugged walrus
#

@sullen linden it sounds like you were using a bad tracking configuration with the Oculus Rift, and it may also have been back before they improved their tracking software

#

with a good 3-sensor setup today, tracking is very good

naive torrent
#

@sullen linden moneys isn't really a issue , but if I do go for the Vive the non-pro should be fine right? or is pro worth it?

toxic inlet
#

I'd recommend the regular vive with the wireless upgrade over the Vive pro. The resolution jump isn't all that significant, and the strap is a bit of a personal preference, but you can still buy it separately later if you change your mind.

sullen linden
#

@naive torrent you should watch linus’ vive pro review just so you know what you aren’t missing lol

sullen linden
#

@gleaming grove Working on it!

#

Not sure how to make it for vr though

twilit sage
#

@naive torrent Heres how I would summarize the two HMDs (Im excluding WMR because of the tracking):
Oculus: Better controllers by MILES, way more comfortable than the vive. Cons: You need 3 sensors for 360
Vive: Better tracking (in my experience I couldnt tell them apart much after I got the 3rd sensor for my rift) Cons: Customer support is hot steaming garbage, and this differs per person but IMO the controllers are a bit "meh"

#

The Pro is not worth it unless you're a dev/content creator. The tracking 2.0 gear is a rip off IMO

#

If youre getting the Vive deffo get the deluxe audio strap

#

if youre getting the rift get a 3rd sensor.

#

Regardless fo what youre getting get a VRcover

#

Im yet to order mine but the one I tried on the vive was great

#

HOWEVER! If you want to go wireless the Vive wireless kit DOES NOT WORK WITH AMD CPUs

#

The TPcast one works with all CPUs on both Vive and Rift

#

IIRC

ivory parrot
#

Tpcast is great

#

I run it

twilit sage
#

I bet

ivory parrot
#

Has faults

twilit sage
#

I want it. Will get it next year probably

ivory parrot
#

So if u listen to music or stuff that isnt game i found it stuggled

twilit sage
#

Nah I dont do that

#

Breaks immersion

ivory parrot
#

Wireless headset solved

twilit sage

UNLESS its an art app

Then I do listen to spotify

TFW UPS nearest drop off point is 2h away so you have to schedule a pickup for your Touch controller RMA shipment :(

ivory parrot

twilit sage
#

Lucky its free of charge

ivory parrot
#

But i highly rec the tpcast kit

twilit sage
#

Cant get it until next year or til I save up :)

#

Yeah I watched the VR oasis video

ivory parrot
#

Its 350 i think

twilit sage
#

mhm

ivory parrot
#

U need an ethernet port on pc

twilit sage
#

Exactly the price of a Rift on sale in the EU

#

Oh, might need an expansion card then :P

#

My HDMI repeater should come on friday

ivory parrot
#

It comes with a router, battery bank, 60ghz transmitter/reciever

twilit sage
#

I know

ivory parrot
#

I use the bat bsnk as a regular bat bank

twilit sage
#

AFAIK the steam link HDMI cable is HDMI 2.0

#

So ill use that

ivory parrot
#

Wat

twilit sage
#

Tried using a ugreen passive 2m HDMI extension. Didnt work too well

ivory parrot
#

I used an amazon basics one

#

It worked fine

twilit sage
#

I was getting a black screen at times

#

I just bought a 10$ repeater

#

Hopefully it works

#

5 MONTHS? Fuck Sony

#

Fuck major companies like them in general

steady bear
#

@twilit sage there is no such thing as a HDMI 2.0 cable. And HDMI cable can handle any HDMI signal. You could use an original HDMI cable with 4K60

sullen linden
#

As long as it is a high speed HDMI cable, which even a lot of generic cables meet that standard, but still some don’t.

#

@sullen linden if your forehead sweats while you play/ you don’t like the default foam, you need this. I have one for my rift and it has made my headset so much more comfortable for long playtimes.

twilit sage
#

@steady bear thanks

rugged walrus
#

5 month timed exclusivity is the best we could hope for, I've been expecting 6-12 months and with a small worry about it being permanent

dusty salmon
#

do you guys get bored of vr? i'm just wondering so i don't run into that problem

full lotus
#

@dusty salmon I did for a while, then I discovered Echo arena + Echo combat. Been playing that for months 😛

#

Its pretty much the only game i play regularly in VR.
Problem with a lot of VR stuff is that its only fun for a short time.

But once you find the game that you really enjoy then its great and you don't get bored

dusty salmon
#

btw do you guys know any life hacks to make the fov better with the rift? i have played a little bit of the vive and i thought the fov was pretty bad

Anybody here have a 2080 ti? What is the VR experience like?

sullen linden
#

good

its got that usb c conector for vr on it lol

swift knoll
#

None of the current HMDs use it tho

#

It's stupid until one does

twilit sage
#

well

#

I have F4VR now

#

hope it runs ok on my 1070

#

whenever I get my right touch controller back

full lotus
#

@dusty salmon get a vrcover

#

It makes your face a bit closer to the lenses which means that the fov is a bit better

#

The oculus does have lower fov that the vive, but due to both that and the better lenses the display is better and the sde is much less noticeable

#

@swift knoll almost exactly 30% better than a 1080ti

#

2080ti is 30% faster in NORMAL games than a 1080ti so that's about the performance Improvement you get.

Anything less (2080 or below) will be on par with or worse than a 1080ti though so no point

dusty salmon
#

no the fov is the same

full lotus
#

It's not

#

They aren't massively different but the fov on the vive is slightly bigger.

Personally I'd argue that's actually bad though. Cause on the vive you have fewer pixels per degree, poorer lenses and so the sde is noticeably worse

wooden token
#

Think Chronos is worth it for $20 on Rift?

sullen linden
#

@dusty salmon have you used both headsets? I have and can tell a difference in fov. Whether it’s in the specs or not, you’ll feel the difference

full lotus
#

@sullen linden Haven't tried the vive version so can't comment on that

But the replacement facial interface for the oculus was fantastic

rugged walrus
#

@wooden token Chronos is better than you might expect from a seated gamepad experience

#

dunno if it's been cheaper before, but $20 is fine

wooden token

@rugged walrus Thanks so much!

at least until knuckles

The combination of most of the stellar games being oculus exclusives (echo combat <3)
and the clunky AF vive controllers (which will hopefully change with knuckles)

twilit sage
#

@nocturne idol why the pro? It's overpriced to shit with meh customer support

#

I'd suggest the regular vive instead

sullen linden

Higher price tag =/= better experience. Exhibit a: vive pro vs any headset

rugged walrus
#

Oculus Rift at the moment, with the lower price and better controllers

strange tusk
#

Well I like both of them they both have their benefits

rugged walrus
#

when it's set up right, the Oculus tracking is just as good - you do have to deal with USB cables rather than just power cables though, and a little more setup for roomscale (plus the extra cost of a 3rd sensor, though overall still cheaper than Vive)

strange tusk
#

They're both still good so either or will be good

rugged walrus
#

that is true

obtuse ivy
#

oculus and vive are too expensive even with price cuts, im hoping to be able to afford windows MR which I can get at $180

full lotus
#

@sullen linden Speaking as someone who has owned both, the myth that vive has better tracking is just that...a myth.
Both systems have absolutely perfect tracking and you cannot notice the difference.
In fact oculus's is measurably more accurate, though as said, both are accurate to the point that you can't tell the difference in use.

The only difference is that with oculus you have to plug the sensors in. Other than that both are perfect.

Personally I would go for the oculus (I sold my vive as it just sat on the shelf gathering dust after I got my oculus) for a few reasons:

#
  1. WAYYY better controllers. Seriously this is so overlooked but in VR being able to actually use your hands naturally, pointing at stuff, pressing buttons, grabbing objects etc is SOOOO much more immersive than using the vive's clunky controllers. Hopefully the vive will improve with the release of knuckles, but that could still be ages away and we don't know if they'll work with the first gen tracking beacons.

  2. Exclusive games. Many of the games that I play the most and I personally think are the best (primarily Echo combat and Echo arena) are oculus exclusives

  3. Price, vive is considerably more expensive. Even oculus, and a third sensor is still cheaper than vive, meaning you can use the money you saved on games. Oculus is cheaper, but that doesn't mean that vive is somehow more "premium", its really not.

  4. the display. The oculus has a slightly reduced FOV, which increases pixels per degree, combined with MUCH better lenses than the vive. Meaning that despite having the same resolution, the screen-door effect is noticeably better on oculus

  5. comfort. This is the biggest thing if you play for a while at a time. I couldn't use the vive for more than an hour without it hurting my face. Its heavier, and the strap is just meh, plus the fact that you have to wear headphones on top of it. Whereas the rigid and ergonomic strap on the oculus, plus lower weight and inbuilt headphones (which are actually really good) make it MUCH MUCH more comfortable, the weight is distributed around your head by the strap, rather than just pressing into your face

#

Both systems are great, anyone who says that one or the other is "bad" is wrong. But I think that the oculus is the better choice for the reasons listed above.

sullen linden
#

why not just get a ps vr and use some oculus controlers
the ps vr is the litest headset i have used and work on both a ps4 and pc

pallid spear
#

Anyone know a sweet deal on windows mixed reality headset any kind - must have controllers included

twilit sage
#

@sullen linden you can't, that's not how that works

sullen linden
#

why not

#

ps4 vr headset has pc drivers

full lotus
#

@sullen linden cause PSVR has significantly lower resolution than the oculus or vive

#

and also you'd need to then have both a PSVR camera, and purchase oculus touch + sensors separately

#

which would likely come to more of a cost than just buying the oculus + touch bundle

plus, whilst I agree that psvr is probably the most comfortable out of the three, its DEFINITELY not the best. The tracking is pretty abysmal, the resolution is really low, and the SDE is awful.

The PSVR was never intended to be a top-notch vr HMD, it was made to be an affordable option for console users. Which it does well. But if you have a good PC, then there is no sense in getting one

Also, the difference in comfort between the PSVR and oculus is minimal

void sky
#

I've put hundreds of hours into VR and tried every bit of advice given to get my VR legs.

Good news is I have seen a major improvement in the amount of time I can spend in locomotion games like Lone Echo, but I can only go for 45 mins to an hour tops before I need to take a break.
I'm more sensitive in titles like Windlands 2 with about 20-35mins.

To be clear I'm not saying teleportation mechanics are the solution lol. But a few of the new ideas are looking really promising for me, I can't wait to see something at least similar to this make it into the market. This one is a bit different to GVS and seems to make more sense as it isn't trying to emulate movement signals, instead using white noise.

https://uploadvr.com/ototech-vibrating-headband-vr-sickness/

For sensitive people like me, and people new to VR, this sort of thing will be a game changer.
"[We] have historically seen a 20-30% sickness level among trainees". ← to hopefully drop this insanely high number and allow for higher adoption rates

sullen linden
#

@void sky I don't get VR sickness

dusty salmon

is there good ways to increase fov in the rift?

dusty salmon

Obviously if you try a headset with a huge fov like pimax it’ll make the rift feel smaller

I actually played the release version with a crap ton of ini tweaks.

I wasn't aware they now "support" the touch controllers and they seem to have broke a few things lol
I'm downloading this version now, if I solve the issues, I'll let you know

twilit sage
#

BTW oculus got an update today ish

#

Home looks idfferent

#

and im suspecting that the touch models in F4VR got replaced with just hands

#

Update! removed the OpenComp dll and replaced with original, was able to rename myself

#

I quicksaved right after. Will redo the dll now

#

@void sky Where did you change your SS settings? SteamVR or the .ini

void sky
#

I can't recall sorry man though this is from another user:

I set the supersampling to 2 in the ini (that's what's under VRDisplay) but left the steam supersampling setting at default 1 and it worked well for me. Gave me a sharper image without losing the performance but if I set them both to 2 it got a little choppy and chuggy.

Just stating the obvious but SS above 1.0 can be murder to your GPU in VR.
Hope that helps

#

Also yeah the update didn't change anything for me, Home still looks the same but I may have opted into the beta stuff so that might be why.
The only difference for me is the targets have the red border around them now. Looks like a bug as others have said.

twilit sage
#

Ok so uh

#

I wont return to this hot steaming garbage for a while

#

It worked fine until I got out of the cryogenic pod

#

after that holy SHIT did it lag

#

It stuttered to the point where I just had to remove my HMD

#

Why is this game so bad?

#

I still dont get it

#

Honestly I now have nothing to play. Im just gonna let my oculus sit there until the xmas sale. I hoped F4VR would be good but fuck no it has to be bad because its bethesda

#

it always is

#

Ive never had a game from them work as it should out of the box

void sky
#

Yeah man, it was a mission to get it working I remember, there is a few things you can do in the INI files that will resolve a lot of the lag and make it pretty playable, though it can be a bit of a pain.

It might be worth looking into the ini settings to wind things down.

Also in case you want to check it out, or if anyone else is having issues this mod apparently does wonders:

twilit sage
#

@tardy marsh Yes, I played it earlier

#

its pretty fun

tardy marsh
#

Awesome

gleaming grove
#

I tryed the HTC vive in the arcade and I sweat and fog up like crazy, but when I use my oculus rift I have at home without the cover I don't experience that problem.

formal goblet
#

Nope its in basically every game

#

I have to take the rift out and put it back again a few times to stop getting fog

twilit sage
#

Just clear the fog off with a cloth

#

You're quite a steamy guy if it's in every game

burnt lark
#

what games do yall recommend for the oculus go?

radiant canyon
#

@burnt lark I don't have one but a gear vr is like one I like playing altspace vr and also Epic Roller Coasters. They are my 2 favourites. You can get them on the Oculus Go.

#

@burnt lark Luna Park also

burnt lark
#

cool thanks!!

radiant canyon
#

@burnt lark let me know if you like them

tardy marsh

Im ordering my Rift tomorrow

#

@sullen linden If you are talking about the Oculus Go or gear vr, the best software for vr on windows is called Virtual Desktop. Here is direct link to it:

https://www.oculus.com/experiences/go/1261331807302580/

Oculus

Connect to your computer to watch movies, browse the web or play games on a giant virtual screen or in various theater environments. Virtual Desktop is a highly optimized, native application developed for low latency, high quality streaming.

• Connect up to 4 computers and...

@sullen linden Tell me if it answered your question.

it's a fujitsu wmr

which is, weird but ok

@vague moss Cool!

#

yo anyone here running a oculus with kinects for full body?

fringe agate
#

I got a rift for Christmas and I have 4 usb 3.0 ports but only one of them doesn’t put out a error code with the sensors and the headset. Dose anyone know a fix?

full lotus
#

@surreal path i did for a while. Honestly not worth it

#

Basically the only game that supports full body tracking was vrchat

#

Which when you have to buy the ridiculously overpriced adapter for the kinect sensor and troubleshoot setting it up etc. Really really isn't worth it for one game imo

#

If you play VRchat a ton then sure.

But other then that it's pointless and expensive

#

Plus even in VRchat it was iffy.

If the avatar you were using was not too close to your actual body dimensions you'd end up with weird stuff like always being half-crouched etc.

#

It's just too niche I think.

Unless htc/valve/oculus starts implementing fullbody tracking as standard in a future generation its unlikely to become adopted in many if any games.

tardy marsh
#

I hope they do

tardy marsh

My oculus is ordered, should be here next weeeek 👌 😹 👌

@gleaming grove Do you know any good websites for VRChat models? I do want to try to make my own, but having some to get started would be cool

I just had a chance to play it for 2 hours @tardy marsh so I am really new to it too, but it was fun while I had time. Will play it in all week from tomorrow.

4 sensor life👌

#

The oculus intro vr demo

gleaming grove

Was thinking that. @ivory parrot but maybe something even longer. I was thinking maybe one of the making art games might be cool but IDK. Also I would want the most budget friendly. (which Oculus demo is) 😃

buy a pci express usb card

gleaming grove
#

@fringe agate I just ignore the errors LOL

fringe agate
#

I’m planning on getting a pcie card but I’ll try just ignoring the errors

sullen linden
#

@fringe agate try putting everything not involved with vr on usb 2.0 like your mouse, keyboard, or anything else. This might give it the extra bandwidth it needs

fringe agate
#

I did

vague moss
#

uh, anyone have experienced fujitsu vr?

#

wmr

#

Now that i bought it, I actually never saw one in amazon...

twilit sage
#

It's japan only

#

Looks like a rebrand of the dell one

#

@gleaming grove I've shown Vr to about 15 people now and each and every one of them were blown away by the oculus touch demo, then dreamdeck. Then for some I turn on earth Vr and for some beat saber.

#

My grandma's reaction to the rooftop and the dinosaur in dreamdeck was fucking priceless.

is it just me or is using samsung gear vr with the note 9 a crappy experience??

using the gear vr is a crappy experience

twilit sage

vague moss

ah..

it should work like a normal wmr tho, right?

dell wmr is like 100 dollars more

which is sad

Doesn't the WMR track with the camera on the front of the headset so it can't track the controllers when you dont look at them?

😃

raven mantle

ok i might get it then

also i am having a problem with vr

I am out of steam funds ATM so I was only able to buy beat saber for myself

My Oculus Rift shipped!!!

sturdy ferry

Awesome!

#

I have the Vive so it's different than the rift, but get ready to be amazed by vr!

twilit sage
#

@vague moss yes all WMR are somewhat equal in function

#

@tardy marsh it tracks the controllers while they're in view and can guess their path when they're outside. If they can't see the controllers they won't track them.

tardy marsh
#

Hmm, doesnt sound that worth it..

sullen linden
#

Hello, so Im considering VR

#

so what VR headsets are cheap

#

but works with steam VR games?

green crypt
#

cheaper vr headsets are windows mr most likly and works with steam but you need a Bluetooth dongle

gleaming grove
#

Is it worth to buy Minecraft VR? 😄

#

aka Minecraft

green crypt
#

not realy there are normal minecraft java mods that make it vr

#

it's called vivecraft

#

but works with vive oculus windows mr and google carboard for some reason

gleaming grove
#

I don't even own normal minecraft

green crypt
#

buy normal minecraft then the java version

twilit sage
#

Normal minecraft is java tho?

#

The official minecraft VR version is... cool at first and then gets boring somewhat

#

I suggest you check the java mods called minecrift/vivecraft

green crypt
#

There is also the bedrock version what is the new normal version

twilit sage
#

Its not the "normal" version. Its the cross platform version, as all platforms can play with each other on bedrock (Phones, PCs and Consoles)

#

Java will remain as the classic version exclusive to PC, free of DLC and payware

quiet saffron
#

im looking to get a vr headset, and i dont really know what specs i would need to have to run (''well'')
and also what headset to get

left coral
#

Latest Intel i5 or i7, nVidia GTX 3080 Ti if you want it to run well, or at least a GTX 2080 or 1080 if you want it to run "acceptably"

quiet saffron
#

and you cant forget the rgb that is required to even boot the game

#

but in all serious ess, i do have a pretty small budget for it, so i cant afford the 2080 and all athat

left coral
#

Well what GPU can you afford? Asking because if you can't afford what you need, that's fine - just don't expect to be able to do VR then.

quiet saffron
#

from what im expecting im gonna get, i have a 350 usd to 400 usd budget for the gpu

left coral
#

Then you'll probably have to settle for a GTX 1070 for around $400 USD (or find a really good deal on a used 1070/1080) since RTX 2070's start at $500 USD ish. But hey, at least that's not $500 CAD, because that doesn't even get you a 1070.

vague moss
#

@twilit sage The quality?

twilit sage
#

@vague moss wut wut

#

Oh, WMR

#

You'll have to look at reviews for each one.

#

Imo odyssey+ is the best one

#

Dell is nice too

#

But odyssey and odyssey+ are the only ones with rgb

gleaming grove
#

Well you can run VR pretty good with AMD 200GE with integrated graphics

#

Just you will have to turn down the screen scale to like 20% but it still will good pretty good

twilit sage
#

oh

#

LowSpecGamer did that

gleaming grove

yeah

quiet saffron

i think steam has it on sale now

I kinda got steamvr working with openhmd to play some racing games on linux with my rift

#

hope openhmd can get the position tracking working some day

nova mist
#

whats a good VR headset i should get?

whole fossil
#

rift is pretty good from my experience

nova mist
#

whats the best of the best right now?

whole fossil

well vive pro is good because of its res

nova mist
#

what do you use?

whole fossil
#

rift like i said in my openhmd message

nova mist
#

oh right xD

whole fossil
#

if you plan to use linux than vive is a good option because right now rift has no offical linux drivers which is annoying

nova mist
#

oh ok

whole fossil
#

proton is getting better but not 100% on getting windows games working on linux

#

like vrchat crashes when going into some worlds

nova mist
#

oh so thats what you mean.

whole fossil
#

windows mr is good from what i herd but depends on what brand you get for a mr headset

tardy marsh
#

The UPS driver needs to get here, n o w.

sullen linden
#

@tardy marsh when my rift was getting delivered by UPS, they got there at like 7:30pm right before the scheduled deadline lol

nova mist
#

lmao

ivory parrot
#

Rift is great

#

Needs 3 sensors

sullen linden
#

had me bouncing on my chair waiting for the tracking info to be updated lol

ivory parrot
#

So keep that in mind

sullen linden
#

doesnt "NEED", but its a great upgrade

ivory parrot
#

It needs it

#

Do you want tracking

sullen linden
#

my friend still rocks 2 sensors and has probably used the headset for 400 hrs total

tardy marsh
#

I got three

ivory parrot
#

Correction

#

Roomscale requires 3

#

Which is the best way to rift

sullen linden
#

yes, I wouldnt make a rift to vive comparison unless it involved 3 sensors

ivory parrot
#

Slight bias because roborecall is the greatest game ever

#

Also dont forget that the rift can also be made wireless

sullen linden
#

ehhh, ive heard some TPCast horror stories, but ya its possible

ivory parrot
#

So

#

2.0 tpcast is a pile

#

3.0 is far better

sullen linden
#

not that easy to setup and adds lag

ivory parrot
#

No lag

#

Its a pain to setup first time

sullen linden
#

no lag

ivory parrot
#

No lag

sullen linden
#

🤔

ivory parrot
#

I have it

#

I cant tell diff between cable and no cable cept the no mic thing

#

Which you can fix

#

Or just be pro and use wireless headset

#

I also dont really have periferal vision because glasses

sullen linden
#

im definitely going to wait until oculus implements wireless, Im not entirely bothered by the cable because I mainly sit down for simulators

ivory parrot
#

I roomscale

#

So tripping sucked

#

But the tpcast wireless is great

#

Once you set it up right

#

It took me a few months to get it right

sullen linden
#

well i roomscale too, but my cable is long and behind me

#

took a bit to get the 15' cable extensions to work properly

ivory parrot
#

Mine worked fine

#

If you want wireless it is out there

#

You just need, a second ethernet port, 15ft hdmi, and lowish ceiling.

#

The wireless needs line of site to top of your head

#

Its why it has 0 lag

#

60ghz

dusty socket

How should I clean the foam on the oculus rift?

tardy marsh
#

Could probably just wash with water, squeeze it out and then put it somewhere warm to dry.. Thats ehat imma try, I'm gonna buy some covers for it tho

rugged walrus
#

I have the old version of the foam, but at least my solution was to just buy a VR-cover set and use that instead

gleaming grove
#

Don't have the money for VR cover right now

rugged walrus
#

that's fair, not a thing you need to get right away

#

I probably used the foam for almost a year before getting the VR cover

gleaming grove
#

I would just like to clean it from sweat like once 1 month

void sky
#

On that topic, I'm thinking about buying these, anyone have any experience with them?
Both from vrcover.com
Oculus Rift Facial Interface & Foam Replacement Pro Set
Oculus Rift Foam Replacement Velour

#

@rugged walrus did you get either of those and what was your experience?
Thanks for any help in advance.

rugged walrus
#

I got the standard set

#

the pleather is good for stuff that'll get you sweaty

#

the cotton cover is perhaps marginally more comfortable and can be washed, but the majority of the time I don't bother with it

#

pleather is still more comfortable than the stock foam IMO

void sky
#

cheers.

mental pond
#

I like the rift but its software is just a dismal bit of garbage

#

forcing the user too own the controllers before letting you set up your headset

#

otherwise your forced too skip the setup

#

and are left with only Hight adjustment

#

and you do not even get shown how the sensors work best at that point

#

had two go on youtube or buy controller thats just a backfire of a business model if i ever seen one

#

also the rift home service is constantly accessing hard drive and moving files out of the pc witch confirms too me they have some kind of telemetry service too collect your data

#

only they are collecting alot more then game/vr relevant data

rugged walrus
#

that's not true, I used my Rift for several months without having controllers

radiant canyon

Will my pc be able to do vr?
