I think your car saved you if you were starting to have lift off over steer.
But generally you press and hold the stability control button.
I just keep my TC on.
If I ever need it off, I'll do it then.
I was doing fine till it kicked in
I just take it easy these days. Not that the roads around here have many/any turns.
I've broke the RX-7 loose a few times
Not on purpose ofc
Saved it bc good reaction
No TC or SC is fun until it isn't
Is that yours in your profile pic?
@worn swallow yes
i saw a cygnet irl once
ive seen 3 smart roadsters im my entire lifetime i quite like em for some reason
oof
@civic girder clean
thx
How’s that rotary doin?
I love that body style of the RX-7
Yea, its a fantastic shape and design
Indeed
I just ordered some fog lights for it yesterday
Tomorrow I am going to a buddy's place to fix the handbrake and get my exhaust fixed
once I can justify the cost, I am going to swap the cat for a resonator and get a new header
I'm also toying with the idea of retrofitting a rev buzzer since the S2s don't have one
ok, spam is over lol
Living that dream car life. Just need to collect more of my dream cars
Yeah I’ve personally been working on a 06 Mustang GT
Got it for really cheap just needs a new engine
Lmao
I think one of the bois in the first gen rx7 discord is putting a 12A in a Foxbody
and he has an FC
Mustangs are interesting. idk how to feel about them most of the time
To each their own I suppose. As far as Fords go I'd rather have a Crown Victoria or an Escort Cosworth
i recently got a jeep grand Cherokee from 1997 not what i wanted but what i could afford. any advice on making it more fun, i dont wanna do big tires or big suspension for it.
personally, the fun I have with cars is the experience of them
Doing little things here and there to fix them or make them a bit better, and just drive them
ya steering joint on it is loose about to get that fixed
Nothing crazy or big for mods. Just maintenance, repairs, and cheap/small/easy upgrades/mods to improve upon the stock state without changing much
ya
So stuff like exhaust, adding fog lights, upgrading speakers, upgrading cooling system, etc
My wildest plans for a car are still pretty tame tbh
like i know i need exhaust the pipe is rusted out at the end and everything else is going i just bought it waiting on the dmv now, there are fog lights from factory i think their fine speakers are blown out, i have a set i need to just put in, cooling system i think is fine maybe need a new plug for the radiator bc 22 years old
I would replace all the coolant hoses and clamps, new water pump, new thermostat, new radiator cap, and potentially a new radiator if its busted or not quite adequate
when are you gonna get the hood repainted?
Don't forget to change filters, spark plugs, probably coil packs, and anything else like that
when are you gonna get the hood repainted?
@indigo coral when I paint the rest of the car
Gonna pay someone or diy?
i can do a walk around the engine bay record it and send it what do you use to upload your videos
What color you thinkin?
I usually use Streamable
I had looked into getting new bumpers for my car and getting them painted and noped out of that real fast
1k$+ just for paint
Plus about 250$ for two new bumpers
I can live with it
Lol
What car?
99 RX 300
What color you thinkin?
Factory color and replicate the factory pinstripe. And reapply the factory side trim after repainting it flat black
Nice
I like the mostly stock aesthetic of cars
Agreed
personally not a fan of restomods and shit
allright, the clamps look good hoses look good pump ill be haivng looked at filters i need to look at still, spark plugs coil packs and cables all have been done.
previous owner had ahem encounters with a planter box and a bench
front was planter box, back was bench
hoses are probably prehistoric
🤣
mine were original, and while usable, could have blown at any time
mine are sturdy and like new
see my buddy's old Jetta that blew out the upper radiator hose and nearly overheated
ouch
if they're soft and don't have visible dry rot, then they're fine
ye
but you should probably flush the coolant and replace the thermostat regardless
here let me go and do a engine bay walk around and record
okie
@civic girder can I give you a video call?
uh, sure I guess lol
lmfao
" any advice on making it more fun"
Yes. Wash it and wax it.
Maintain it, and go on drives when you feel like it. Gas is cheap right now.
Maybe put fuzzy dice in it.
yea pretty much
when leaving cars stock (or very close to stock in my case), a lot of the fun is in what you do with the car; not in what you do to the car
putting on miles, road tripping with friends, taking pictures in cool little places you find while out on the road, go on cruises with friends
and just the work and love you put into keeping it on the road and in good condition
The Prius is gutless and boring, every "car guy" hates them. Yet I couldn't love mine more. The memories I've made with that car, the places I've been, the work (and money) I've put into maintaining it, and the exercise of driving as efficiently as possible all amount to the fun I have with what is ordinarily seen as a completely utilitarian appliance.
how reliable are audi's?
allright
will do
how reliable are audi's?
@manic isle
quite till they break
there just a bit more to maintain then others
i'm looking at 2017 q7's
i see good things in the reviews on them but needed to ask an actual person
my aunt is trading in her 2016 Q7 in favor of a Rav4 if that gives you an indication

oh um
welp
ok
rn im between a 2018 mdx or the 2017 q7 theyre both about the same price
Rav4 Hybrid
?
I'd go for the MDX tbh.
It'll run longer, better, and do it for less.
Also if it has the SH-AWD, no brainer.
rn im between a 2018 mdx or the 2017 q7 theyre both about the same price
@manic isle Q7
i think its about 33k, it says n/a cuz theyre shipping it to my local carmax
Audi has great service departments as well, and they actually do a good job
In my experience^
Close enough to say do you want the 2 grand for insurance, gas, dmv, or spend it on a over all better car,
Also Acura’s infotainment is terrible
Close enough to say do you want the 2 grand for insurance, gas, dmv, or spend it on a over all better car,
@pure aurora ^
Aha ok
Yeah ok
premium plus looks great inside and out
It’ll drive good, be nice and have low miles
i'd rather have the lower miles than bells and whistles
Another you can do your self at that point
yeah only thing is my parents are iffy about the audi cuz they have only owned hondas and toyotas and acuras
Ya manganese is a bit more but if you keep up on it they won't break
thats what ive read
and honestly the interior on the audi is so much nicer for not much more
I wouldn't get the Audi.
It will break sooner than later, and be expensive to fix again.
I would absolutely get the Acura. I sincerely doubt it's any worse to drive.
Not entirely true its mostly lack of matnance that kills cars
^
ive heard that the acuras are very comfortable to drive
It was all right, if you treat the car right it won’t break
even my friend's base af E46 sedan is expensive to fix
Okay?
Only sold it for muh Lexus
And how much did it cost for say... an oil change?
Had a 2014 A6
And how much did it cost for say... an oil change?
@dense shard change it urself not hard to do
My ford fusion is expensive to fix
Lel yeah
It's hard to do if you live in an apartment.
I don’t...?
true
I'm contractually obligated to not change my oil at my place right now.
his oil filters cost $12, and it takes a lot of oil even for the engine size
So three times more than it was for me.
I changed mine
like 7L of oil for a 3L L6, like bruh
You can also get discounts for buying filter and oil at the same time or at least I do
i have the ability to change it myself easily so that helps with maintenence costs
(idk exact engine capacity), but its still nuts
Well look... if you're set on the Audi, why even ask?
7 quarts is industry standard in Germany generally
Its a 2.5L L6 that takes 7L of oil............
Test drive them.
Based on some basic research.
The Acura will be cheaper in the long run.
And at this point both cars are a generation or two behind in infotainment.
It will suck to use before 2025.
Acura is way further doe
acura is alot farther behind
The dual screen is terrible
Ya Acura also had more miles right?
It won't matter once you hit a decade in either car.
Japanese cars are always cheaper to run, even a luxury version
My dad’s friend had a similar MDX
Because the MDX is just a minivan.
Basically unusable
And the Qwhatever is just a Tiguan.
Well tbf
Everything is on MBT for Volkswagen now
we have a '03 mdx rn and were gonna trade our 2012 pilot in for whatever we get
Mild Ball Torture?
They need three rows lol
@dense shard i need 3 rows
uwu yes
Y
midsized crossovers are going to murder the 3rd row passengers if they're older than 5.
Just because you can fit someone there doesn't mean they'll want to be there.
Not even that
well im gonna be the one in the back im basically car shopping for my family
Or a Pacifica
Get a Sienna. They even come in AWD, will run forever, and hold 3 rows easy.
ew
Chrysler.
I'd skip on the Pacifica.
^
Trick seats, crap car.
Only get the Pacifica Hybrid
I hear those are worse.
Yeah but you add complexity and weight for no real fuel economy gain.
And a chrysler WILL break.
the Hybrid is actually a decent car, especially for a Chrysler
Excuse me
basically the third row for me only will get used on road trips and when we take ppl places but its needed, a 5 passenger car wont cut it
Car and Driver didn't have a good experience with their example.
no real fuel economy gain.
What? Based on what?
Shit I've read.
and minivan is big no no my parents will never get another one
Also for the love of god
If you are going to road trip, a mid size crossover will not be enough.
I barely got 22mpg in a gas only Pacifica, but get 35 in the Hybrid.
And a chrysler WILL break.
@dense shard
Just got a 1997 jeep grand cherokee runs like new plus squeaky belt
The Hybrid Pacifica is actually really nice
ok here what is a suv with 3 rows that is nice for around 30-35k
preferable about 2-3 years old
Tahoe
Like yea, its a Chrysler, eventually it will shit itself and rust into a million pieces; but it will be a nice car until that happens
Again maintaining a vehicle it will run for a long time
I can't think of a single SUV I'd want to sit in for more than an hour.
for example my dads mdx has 180k miles and runs like a dream
GMC Acadia has a lot of room in the back?
I had a rental gas Pacifica on a work trip last year, it was garbage.
My mom owns a Pacifica Hybrid, its nice.
I would not say so for the Acadia those are small
Don’t get an acadia lmao
It's bigger than a Q6 or whatever from what I hear.
Smaller than wrangler
imagine thinking anything GM is worth the money
(Outside of the Tahoe and Silverado)
VW things their products are worth something.
They’re not comfortable and there are a larger amount of lemons
VW didn’t go bankrupt
It nearly did.
Not to mention Dieselgate
And then took a 15 billion dollar hit lying to the public.
Yeah fair
Does this include Porsche Bugatti and Lamborghini
My friend's 06 Passat TDI was nice, until it started to fall apart despite him caring for it really well
Kia Telluride and Hyundai Pallisade are probably the best of the segment.
Heh emissions, whats that, nothing....
What about the Subaru Ascent
Big Subaru?
yea the giant one
Kinda
it has like 17 cupholders
It looks pretty big.
I mean, its still smaller than a Tahoe but still very sizeable
then again the new Outback is also pretty fucking huge.
Dimensions: 197″ L x 76″ W x 72″ H
The Tahoe isn't that big inside.
Sold axle out back really cuts into the room inside I hear.... new one fixes that.
And costs 60k new.
The Tahoe is also basically just a shortbed truck with rear seats instead of a bed
Not anymore.
oh?
New generation introduces a independent rear suspension.
Oh God those blew up in size think extended bed
Too much tho yeah
Yeah, but overpriced to hell and back.
f a n c y
New navigator doe
I'd rather get a Ford Excursion
No no ford mine broke at 136k
If you can find one with less than half a million miles, sure.
If you can find one with less than half a million miles, sure.
true
lol
Lmaoooo excursion
Reliable af tho
Excursions have a cult following.
no the V10 is garbage
I power stroke every night bruh
That sweet sweet 7.3 liter diesel.
Don’t need a car to do it too
the PowerStroke Excursions are basically indestructible lol
Yuh
Or take two cars for road trips.
there's a reason they all have like 500k miles 😂
Make your friends take their car, and get yourself something nice.
I'd probably just get an F150.
Cheaper, but less cool
Those can tow more than enough at this point.
Oh thats a big truck
dunno. That 3.5L ecoboost is potent.
I'd get it purely because diesel
F-450 platinum
Only reason to get an F250 is that new 7.3 gas engine they have.
Get that v6 out of here
$100,000
That V6 tows more than a 6.2L GM whatever.
a newer F-150 wouldn't be on my list to check out
Ford got really fancy with the new one.
Yea I know
And seems they actually pulled the hybrid thing off.
Each year Tesla doesn't release the cybertruck, Ford tightens their dominance.
The PowerBoost™️ or whatever it's called can apparently run a lot of power tools.
I would get one, but I'd rather get an Excursion or F-250 of the same generation. Why? Simply because I prefer older cars in most cases, and the 7.3L PowerStronk is diesel and strong
so is almost anything older
Thing is a lot of newer things are also faster, better on gas, and just better.
Big trucks never got the better on gas thing down all the way.
Yea, but I'd still rather get something older. Because for some reason I'm just too smoothbrain to actually want the better things
And honestly... quality wise?
I'm not seeing much of a difference outside of fancy leather seats.
Hard plastic interiors, no real style, just... a screen in places of a radio.
I dislike leather seats
I've learned to live with em.
It would actually be a turn off for me in any new car
Partially because they're not leather.
And the Corolla has cloth inserts in the seats.
Doesn't matter. The fake leather they use is just as bad
It's comfy.
I can't stand it
I have no complaints. Beats having to lather, massage, and moisturize.
Just wipe down.
A dealer would have to drop the price considerably for me to consider a vehicle with leather seats
wut, leather seats are SO much better than cloth tho
Honestly. I prefer cloth.
I'd literally be that guy who requests they bring in another car
But it wasn't a deal breaker for me.
After all... the seats are heated and electric.
i prefer leather bc you can clean it unlike cloth, and the leather feels way nicer
plus heated + cooled seats is so nice
Well my seats are discoloring a bit.
I'm a stickler for little things.
cloth seats just feel chintzy
I just life cloth in summer and winter.
I've never once thought a cloth seats felt cheap or low quality
hell, my friend's 89 Crown Vic with Velour seats is the most comfortable car I've ever been in
Velour is kinda chintzy imo. lol
Velour is the best material wdym
Tho I'm not sure I like the seats made out of discarded gym shorts.
I don't know if seat material choice is a hill worth dying on.
I desperately want to reupholster the RX-7's seats so I can finally sit on velour like god intended me to
but money :(
I'm a bit annoyed that Toyota claims the seats in my car are leather.
They're not.
Which is good. Cause they're more durable than leather.
¯_(ツ)_/¯
idk, I would rather buy the right car the first time
I spend so much time driving that I don't want something I don't like
as I mentioned earlier, I'm a stickler for small things even if its inconvenient
I will always stand by velour being the best material. Its soft, its comfy, its nice. The dash covers I bought are obviously cheap, but they feel really nice.
if a rusty 89 Vic with original Velour seats is the most comfy car I've been in, something has to be right about it
I've been satisfied with most cars I've driven daily.
Honda Accord was great.
Suzuki Cervo was better than it should have been... but the Corolla is almost sinful.
okay... and the Rogue is quite comfortable.
i like my familys 2012 pilot
sometimes
it rides like shit half the time and eats tires
The Rogue is a couch with wheels.
Saturn was good
For what it was.

I love how little control that Supra has.
My traction control just tried to Kill me because it kicked in when I was going around a corner having fun like you do and my car started to lift off over steer
Sounds like every car with traction control enable i have ever driven.
My car has too little power for the TC to engage
My car has no traction control
But the only one I driven
I had the same thing
I think the only way to disable it would be to pull out the Fuse
I just need to press a button to disable traction control.
Hold it to disable traction, and stability control.
This is a short video on how to fully disable the traction control on a BMW E46 3 Series. Just pressing the DSC button only turns the system down.
Disabling it only makes me realize how much I want an LSD.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTsTyxg5eJQ
Quite fun to watch
Disabling it only makes me realize how much I want an LSD.
Get it
Want to get a proper one. So IDK what to get. Maybe just overkill and quaife it.
Also - 456GT was a real chonker in that group.
260 kg heavier than the second heaviest.
And over 600 kg heavier than the lightest.
Oh, the Viper had the worst power:weight.
F40 fastest
I have an LSD
A Quaife for me is like €1,500
I mean. It would be weird for mine to have it in any other location.
Considering that it's RWD xD
The 16 year old biodegradable plastic
Not sure I'm such a fan of the 500 on the front
does the audi q7 eat tires
Wouldn't surprise me if it ate rear tires like every other heavy car.
It's usually the inside of tires that gets worn first.
If you check your tire pressure regularly, rotate your tires at correct intervals, and get an alignment youd be fine
Often an alignment issue as well. Especially with air suspension.
@autumn mantle Tire rotation doesn't help if it's just one part of the tire that gets worn out.
looking at a 2017 q7 and the only thing my dad is worried about is the tires bc they look thin
Still helps to rotate them
Welcome to the luxury SUV life. Where sidewalls are starting to become non-existent.
Tires would be the last concern for a Q7 imho
Many tires just aren't rated to deal with the weight of something like the Q7 on a daily basis.
i asked this last night but yall are different people, acura mdx with tech pckg or audi q7 premium plus?
The Q7 is what? 2,200-2,500 kg?
1.945 kg apparently
The weight of a Q7 is equivalent to any other full size SUV
(for the 3.0 TFSI, which I assume the US Spec is)
But the Q7 is more often found on large rims, with low profile tires.
Like any other modern SUV wheels
Honda will probably be more affordable to maintain. Compared to the Audi.
Yes
I mean Acura.
But the MDX infotainment and stuff is way worse
i hear too many bad things about bmw's to even bother looking at them
i hear audis are reliable but are expensive to fix but overall is about the same cost to maintain as a normal car
I don't know if I would want to buy a vehicle that just ended its lease deal.
And just right out of warranty.
Audi isn't more reliable than BMW
I hear that BMW are reliable. But expensive to fix.
But BMW'S are way better to drive than Audi's
Doesn't have the 3rd row
If the 3rd row isn't an issue, X5 all day long
does the x5 have a 3rd row
If you need a third tow. Then just get a Honda Odyssey.
ok x5 off the list then
Don't think the X5 does
Row*
Most are.
our 2012 pilots 3rd row is tiny af too so im used to it
Suburban's are one of the few 3rd rows that can comfortably fit an adult.
That might just be what I would look at. NA produced vehicle with a third row.
If you often use the 3rd row: same
Else just get a minibus.
Or, when spending 35k: get a new Kia Telluride/Hyundai Pallisade
The sliding doors are also an additional insurance.
Keeps kids from slamming open the doors on parked cars.
👀
Imagine how much you'll depreciate on a Q7
And you're looking at a Q7?
a 2017 one yes
I think a Telluride will even depreciate less
Same.
basically we want a really nice car thats comfortable and can be used for road trips 1-2 times a year with a third row
Sounds like this has Kia Telluride written all over it
Telluride: 10 year, 100k mile warranty
ill look into the telluride

The 2020 Kia Telluride is a new midsize family SUV. Today I will review the Kia Telluride, and I'm going to show you all the important things to know about the Telluride duri...
Quirks. And. Features.
Telluride S has everything you need for 35k USD
Or when you want AWD, it's +2K
It's a great deal imho
AWD is honestly not something everyone needs.
Yeah I also mentioned the Palisade, basically the same car
TL:DR - Look at the other brands from Asia.
Although the Hyundai might have a nicer interior?
I'd get a telluride/palisade over a german suv tbh
More reliable, cheap to maintain
But still good quality
or you just can get an RX 350
I would go German if I wanted a smaller SUV.
Even I, who likes European cars, would look at a Telluride/Pallisade if you want a 3rd row.
X3/5
They're hard to beat
my friend has a palisade and its nice
only thing is all the tellurides and palisades are all 40-45k
Can probably walk into a dealer and chop off 10k from that price.
Thonk
Especially just before the end of the year.
When they want to sell more to increase sales numbers.
You don't have to have the SX, the S is good enough equiped
im still in love with the q7's interior and all the features
It's fun and all until something breaks. Which it will. And it'll be expensive. And you'd wish you'd bought another car
^
But you'll get a car with a few years on its back. Limited warranty options. And bound to break down sooner.
is the xc90 better?
Telluride/Palisade has 10 year warranty
@indigo coral didn't your aunt trade in a 2017 Q7 for a Rav4?
She either did or is about to
@indigo coral I think that's for the power/drive train.
Yeah but the warranty for everything is at least 5 years, maybe more
Better than the 3 year powertrain warranty on our exploder and stuff
Oof.
I'm happy that my engine is pretty solid.
I should probably flush all other fluids.
The timing chain stretched, a bunch of stuff had to be replaced
Cam phasers and a bunch of stuff
They has the car for almost a month
Yeah. If anything. Then that might be a thing I should look into.
And yes we change the ojl
I know the timing chain should be changed. at some point
I'm thinking oil for the diff and such.
The odd parts. That they count as a lifetime thing.
My RX has a timing belt, has been replaced once so I am good until 180k - 200k
Timing belts have a pretty short life compared to timing chains
are xc90's good/better than a q7?
90k is the recommended interval
are xc90's good/better than a q7?
I'd say yes
i like them so far
Huh. I think one of my speed sensors are going bad.
Those lights came on. And went away.
Or it was just me being parked with the ignition on that the car didn't like.
I see that you are getting jacked.
Pump. It. Up.
Lmao
Hey all new hear just wanted to post this pic of my 2010 Holden VE SS 6.0L V8 🙂 450RWHP
Wroom. Wroom.
i think were gonna go with the volvo xc90
I just don't like the XC90 for the engines.
The T8 is a mess of a powertrain.
Uses both a turbo and a supercharger.
Along with an electric motor.
It appeared to be quite reliable thus far
I guess the good thing is that every Volvo uses the same 2 liter engine.
With different stuff tacked onto it.
yeah the T8 is sketchy

T8 is supercharged, turbocharged, plug in hybrid, with a complicated anti-lag pressurized system as well
It's a reliability nightmare in a few years
Whoops
I think that I'll order a pair of wheel speed sensors. Idk
Seems like it's starting to become and intermittent problem.
And I'd like having ABS and all of that if I needed it.
we can switch, I only need one for speed signal to instrument panel 😄
If Volvo designed the system right, it'll be fine.

The Acura TL and TSX were two loved sporty sedans that were combined into one car back in 2...
Finally.
and hey. Not full digital cluster. Nice.
probably no manual model though smh
Manuals are dead. No one bought them.
ok american
Acura is American.
And last I checked Mercedes killed the manual... worldwide.
New 3 series BMW is moving to all automatic with a few exceptions.
doesent mean its not a saab moment
I did my part to save the manuals.
also holy mother of buttons on that thing, even on the wheel
Buttons > touch screen
still
It doesn't really have a radical amount of buttons.
My Corolla has about the same amount now that I'm looking.
Right side is cruise control and related features. Left is media control. And then you have your roller controller thingies.
all you need
Buy it, and they will make it.
Ultimately consumer preference and regulations are making manuals kind of obsolete.
I don't really mind the Acura has only automatics. Luxury means convenience.
That is cursed
Cursed car gets cursed builds... tho that is super clean.
Guys help my eyeballs popped out
when the service manual you find for your car at the corner of the internet references another service manual you have not yet found
oof
local wagon here in BC 😄
That looks good.
Suspension lowering is so sketchy, but damn it look good.
Old school Audis existing is the best argument against a newer Audi
its only 2inches lower than stock so the geometry doesn't change that much
with updated shifter kit and knob 😛
my mazda 2 has mad body roll need some lowering springs
can lift back wheel completely off the ground
definetly gonna go with an xc90, its only $650 more than the mdx and is worlds nicer
Clean interior, also 2 inches is pretty radical.
Looks fucking good tho. I get the reduced suspension travel and speed bumps, but unf, that look.
I almost wanna do it to my car, but I can't really justify it. lol... maybe if Toyota releases TRD springs.
actually 2 inch from stock suspension, and only 1inch from the sport suspension
fair enough.
I just know the Corolla RSR suspension kits go from slight drop to something like 3 inches.
Which... lol a bit radical tbh.
Yeah here we go.
Some brave owners went static, not bags. lol

How is it not heated?
Also - Don't buy a car that claimed to be able to do Level 5 self-driving until actual level 5 self driving stuff is out.
Almost every car has level 1. If they count dumb cruise control.
There has been debate on Tesla even being level 2.
I know my car is Level 1.
Tho... with radar cruise AND lane keep assist... I could very loosely and with many liberties argue my car is 1.5 or 2.
https://www.nhtsa.gov/technology-innovation/automated-vehicles-safety The definitions are fairly nebulous, but level 5 is... a ways off.
Level 5: An automated driving system (ADS) on the vehicle can do all the driving in all circumstances. The human occupants are just passengers and need never be involved in driving.
Level 5 is literally a hands-off experience.
Where you can sleep in the car without a worry.
pretty much
And arrive at your location well rested.
You are but a passenger
Yeah
I mean... you could sleep in Level 4.
Level 4 An automated driving system (ADS) on the vehicle can itself perform all driving tasks and monitor the driving environment – essentially, do all the driving – in certain circumstances. The human need not pay attention in those circumstances.
"In certain circumstances"
I'd say urban/suburban driving is that certain circumstance.
Probably won't be useful on a dirt road... or in a blizzard.
If you're anywhere in a major city. Then you're probably good.
Mhmm.
Convenient, but scary.
Cruise control for stop-and-go is really only level 1/2.
Tesla is probably at low level 3.
"the vehicle can itself perform all aspects of the driving task under some circumstances."
Tesla is level 2.
Legally, technically, and practically.
And some wouldn't even go that far.
Vaguely?
It's a remarkably fragile system. As that tweet alludes to.
The cameras can be knocked out by damn near anything.
I'd think that temperature changes and weather conditions shouldn't be a "circumstances" issue. We've figured out the temp thing.
Tesla is building cars out of plumbing supplies and papier-mâché
Might as well just build dang train lines all across the world.
Those are more automated than Tesla's stuff.
Model S screens weren't rated for automotive uses, and apparently their cameras aren't as well.
And yeah. Modern trains are pretty damn safe, eco friendly, fast, and automated/safe.
That's a big yeet.
I remember that a bunch of screens for the Model S broke due to excessive sun exposure.
Aka. Heat.
It's like using a car engine for marine stuff.
Engines on the sea are required to operate under load around the clock.
Why are automakers 5-10 years behind Tesla?
Because it takes that long to design, develop, test, and certify the parts.
Yup.
Just look at the Taycan.
Yo. The Taycan Cross Turismo looks sick.
Yes. Yes. Yes.
I wanna to get a Łada 2107
BMW swap it. 👀 https://i.imgur.com/LIHTzjW.png
yes

This is an old 5 speed truck that I put a predator 212cc/6.5hp on.
Smol engine.
I think it would be funnier if it was something more sporty
Basically a lawn mower engine.
waht is the wolds most unreiable engine?
Whatever Rob Dahm decides to work on.
I don't know him
Anyone here that lives in Canada, preferably in Ontario - I have a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze 1LT 1.4L and I need to do a full brake job. My issue is sourcing the rear brake drum, shoes, and additional hardware. Does anyone know where I can shop? I've tried Napa and they only seem to have the drums and the drums alone cost like $122..
do still cars use drum brakes?
Aye. They sadly do.
why they would use drum brakes?
they seem to be complicated
and they don't like mud
Cheaper
How much cheaper can it really be to use drums?
the only reason I can find to use drum breakes insteado of disc brakes is that hey are smaller
Well save 5 bucks per car time 100.000 cars = big difference in the long run
I guess that their size:perfomance is alright.
At least for normal daily use.
And with the odd emergency stop.
90% of the breaking is done by the front brakes
but fricking hell there is no way I'm changing the drum brakes
Disc brake swap.
I've noticed that my rear brakes are super weak
I could do with a full refresh of my brakes.
New pads and rotors.
Along with a freshened up parking brake.
We had cruisin the coast Sat. down here. I should have entered my car however its not restored but it is antique.
bout to test drive the xc90
I wonder if I should get myself a dash cam.
I must get a dash cam
I almost had a head on crash on the national road
and also 2 days ago someone almost bumped in to my car because I stopped at pedestrian crossing
always best to have it before you need it
That wasn't even a pothole.
Yeah. They are drains.
I still kind of find difficult to drive in the rain
take a holiday here, get plenty of experience
try 11.5 months here
Depends what you define as unreliable.
or I just spin the wheels
I'd say Lancia has a few engines that were tragic.
so your only issue with the rain is not being able to launch?
It's all fun and games till you run the power steering pump of the timing chain... and destroy the engine turning the steering wheel at start up.
not being able to launch and braking issues
jeez how hard are you braking
Chevy Vegas had tragic issues due to aluminum heads on an iron block.
bleed your brakes
not a bad time to replace the fluid tho.
most of my deceleration is done by downshifting
and adjust brake shoes if you have drums
I have no idea how to do anything with drum brakes
I know all about soft brake pedal thanks to the Chronicles of RX-7 Rear Drum Brakes
Adjustment is fairly easy from what I recall... just a pain in the ass.
Yea
Anything to do with drums is a pain compared to disc brakes.
its easy, but annoying
Drums are very straight forward, but they are such a massive pain in the dick to actually do
I drive on mud
should be able to drive fine in rain then
because rich people can't get a bit of money together to build a road
I usually just speed trough it
I've span out 1 time
I took a turn at 20 kmh and I lost grip
difference is that isnt like a private road thats a actual public road you have to use to get to a town
@fathom socket You need plenty of thread and decrease your speeds when driving in heavy rain.
I still have 7 mm of thread on the front and 5mm on rear
why?
prevent oversteer
Decreases the risk of oversteer.
understeer is safer and easier to deal with, usually
If you have good on the front, bad on the rear. Then you can get snap oversteer in a corner.
chonky drainage on my tyres
I'm gonna to get new tires installed when I can afford it
Do you run a square stance? As in, all tires are the same spec?
but can I drive all seazon in winter here they require winder tires?
my 2 front tyres are decent my back ones are old not so decent :^|
All seasons should honestly really be called "Three season".
You can check if the tires have a snowflake on the sidewall to see if they are legal to drive on the winter.
only reason i replaced the fronts is because they had utterly shit chinese tyres which i could do burnouts all day with
A big TL;DR I have for driving in the rain is to just keep your distance. And to slow down.
Especially for standing water. No idea what's under the water.
Can't see the road? Might as well not be one there.
my tires are dębica navigator 2
I think the worlds cheapest all seazon tires u can get
@fathom socket Looks like they are rated M+S (Mud and Snow).
Those are the kinds of puddles that will have you spin off the road.
I literally just lose grip when the road is wet
What were you driving now again?
And you're driving in the speedy lane.
Quietly and silently judging you.
am performin tha overtake
was not expecting snow
i dropped back into lane one shortly after that because no one was driving in lane 2 leaving it completely covered
me be like
General consensus is you want to understeer.
For 99% of driver's that's easier and safer to deal with.
my ear drums
Also if your tires are so shit you lose grip at a walking pace, you should get new tires.
Yeah.
And if the tires are old, then they will perform much worse as well. Even if you do have the thread depth.
You can see the tires date of production on the sidewall. Should be something like 2015
Firt two for the week, second two for the year.
There is that as well. Tho modern tires should be more resistant to age.
ok so we drove an xc90, a q7 and an explorer
q7 was confusing to use and change settings
explorer seats werent great and infotainment kinda sucked
xc90 was great overall and seats were amazing
Volvo seats
Because it is.
The seats in the fiesta ST are great
the seats in my focus mk1 are not great
it is cheap
but at least it's ergonomic
and better than first gen yaris seats
4 wheels bad
No
what kind of replacement head light bulb should i get
lol I put leds in, glare issues be damned
4 wheels gud
I just put some halogen white bulbs from philips
i mean i cant have much of a glare issue if my headlight adjuster is stuck on the lowest possible setting
You'd be surprised.
bruh my parents want the goddamn explorer shitbox over the volvo
Volvos don't have a good long term rep these days.
Do Ford's?
Honestly? Yes.
Why no Palisade/Telluride tho
European cars still have the perception of being super expensive to fix.
Also like yeah. The Hyundai/Kia twins are supposed to be the benchmarks right now.
Suggested those yesterday
Same.
For his 35k budget he can even get a nice brand new one
10 year 100k mile warranty, and tbh they're just very good cars

Telluride/Palisade > Outlander all day
Is the Highlander a 7 seater?
Pretty sure it offers 3 rows.

Tho I'd just go for a Sienna at that point.
I would skip a vacation if it meant sitting in a 3rd row of any crossover for more than 15 minutes.
see we drove a xc90, explorer and a q7 and the xc90 was the best out of all of them
and the third row in the xc90 was the best
y'all should totally check out the Telluride.
You're shopping and comparing between a luxury crossover and a mass market crossover.
yeah we only looked at the explorer cuz our friend has one and they like thiers
Telluride apparently has 31" of legroom in the 3rd row, which appears to be similar to the 2nd row of a Corolla hatch?
So not great, but enough.
3 inches more than coach on American Airlines.
4 more than RyanAir.
if it has 31" then its the same as the xc90
and all of the xc90 seats were amazingly comfortable
Then you should check the Telluride and/or Palisade out.
yeah for base model
2nd trim
or we spend 35k on a xc90 t6 inscription that is literally beautiful inside
Will it be beautiful 5 years later?
It's been on the market for 5 years already.
yeah and it literally looks brand new
Volvo design is
XC90 3rd row legroom looks less than the Telluride tbh
the seat comfort makes up for it
i've sat in alot of third rows and the seat itself felt like it shouldn't be there it was so comfortable
Comfort is meaningless when your legs are cramping up.
But maybe the Telluride also has a comfortable 3rd row
You don't know when you haven't tried
And that ^
^
like i said tellurides and palisades are too much for us
But. New. 35k. Which was your budget.
I'm sure you can find a used Telluride for under 40k.
why would we buy brand new when its gonna lose 10k of its value in a year
warranty, dealer incentives?
Because a used XC90 will do the same, + 10y warranty
Why would you buy a Volvo when an Acura is predicted to be cheaper to run?
Because Acura looks like a 2005 car
