Cheers mods.

indigo coral

thank you PogLove

dense shard
#

That was, not pleasant. As in Daihatsu Mira cargo hatch unpleasant.

civic spoke
#

I'm 95% sure there is a rule against impersonating either way.

dense shard
#

I still rank that among the worst cars I ever drove.

#

Maybe worse than the Chevy LUV I drove.

civic spoke
#

Didn't MCM do a Mira?

dense shard
#

MCM?

civic spoke
#

Mighty Car Mods.

dense shard
#

oh, maybe?

#

Much as I love cars... I'm not huge on following various car channels.

civic spoke
#

Yeah, they did. It was the AWD Turbo Mira.

indigo coral
#

The car that nobody wanted

#

unfortunately that's how Taurus sales looked until it was cancelled

#

They literally sold under 30 cars one quarter lmao

#

I quite like our Taurus.

dense shard
#

ouch

#

Well it started out decent.

#

But after a decade... less so.

indigo coral
#

Our SHO is surprisingly athletic despite being a big car

#

but i have a fairly narrow frame of reference for that

dense shard
#

There aren't many cheaper sedans with that level of performance.

#

Only car that could touch it in terms of performance was the V6 Accord.

indigo coral
#

Well you can get a lot of cars for 55k

dense shard
#

A stripper 5 series.

#

Not as fast.

stoic ledge
#

Opel Insignia OPC Pogey

dense shard
#

Also pretty sure the SHO was under 50k?

indigo coral
#

base

#

but ours has the performance pack and whatnot

#

and the upgraded interior

stoic ledge
#

Idk that was the Buick Regal GS or something in the US?

dense shard
#

GS was a turbo 4.

#

I don't think it was as fast.

stoic ledge
#

2.8 V6 Turbo 325hp

dense shard
#

oh? Still down on power.

stoic ledge
#

Probably a tad slower

indigo coral
#

3.5 V6 Turbo 365hp

stoic ledge
#

Still not too shabby

dense shard
#

The Accord was brutally fast as well for some reason.

indigo coral
#

~4.9 to 5.1 seconds to 60 in the Taurus, but it keeps going well past 60mph

dense shard
#

0-60 in well under 6 seconds.

indigo coral
#

and can be tuned for wayyyyy more power

civic spoke
#

I just want a nice slow car to go fast in.

dense shard
#

Avalon TRD. Pogey

civic spoke
#

My E46 probably works well for it. tbh

indigo coral
#

One thing that the SHO does well that some of the other cars don't, is good AWD.

#

I know some of the other cars with big power struggle to put it down bc FWD

stoic ledge
#

Insignia OPC was 6s to 62mph btw, just checked

#

So a bit slower

#

Ah, that's the wagon tho

indigo coral
#

So about 1 second slower than the SHO

stoic ledge
#

maybe the saloon was faster

civic spoke
#

Keep in mind that Euro boys don't get all of those fancy NA cars.

indigo coral
#

People have gotten the SHO down into the 3s

#

which is nuts

stoic ledge
#

Saloon 6s as well

#

It is a manual tho, so it's per definition better

indigo coral
#

nah

dense shard
#

Depends what you want in a car.

indigo coral
#

the SHO drives well

#

good suspension and steering

stoic ledge
#

It was crazy expensive here tho

indigo coral
#

but small back seat

stoic ledge
dense shard
#

Manuals are nice for fun.

#

Automatics are more convenient and flat out faster when done right.

stoic ledge
#

+17k in 4 years as well kekw

indigo coral
#

The taurus has a small back seat but huge trunk

#

lol

stoic ledge
#

Just get a wagon when you want a huge trunk

indigo coral
#

i live in the US

#

we hardly get any wagons

#

& there's a stigma associated with them

dense shard
#

if we do get wagons, automatic only.

stoic ledge
civic spoke
#

Tbh, I could really go for a 1/2 series with a small engine. Give it a slight tune, and then it would be a pretty decent slow car to go fast in.

dense shard
#

Acura TSX was one such car.

indigo coral
#

Genesis G70 wagon hopefully

#

I keep hearing europe exclusive

stoic ledge
#

Ah yikes

#

Uhhhhm.... maybe get another Ford Focus wagon as parts cars? kekw

#

I know a friend of mine who did just that lol

#

Cheaper buying another Ford Focus for parts than buying them all seperate

fathom socket
#

The issue is

#

What im gonna to do with the car

stoic ledge
#

Yes

#

That's the hard question

#
  1. Get it to pass inspection as cheap as possible
  2. Get another cheap car (although not as smart probably since you already invested some money to sort out the Focus, which you'll never get back)
#

Probably, I'd try to get the fender fixed for cheap, and maybe a used hatch? Those aren't that expensive. It that gets it passed inspection, it's fine

#

Only the door lock is a minor inconvenience

fathom socket
#

I wonder how the inspector will get on and out

#

Maybe I will stich my bumpers with zip ties for now

My issue are red turn signals.

charred depot

dont see that here in the UK

dense shard

It's common on American cars.

charred depot

its mainly front indicators like cars taking the first exit on the roundabout i sometimes miss

not really a issue other than missed opportunity

fathom socket

oh yeah ive missed those a few times

im probably just looking at the wrong places tho

charred depot

dense shard

LED turn signals tend to be pretty visible.

charred depot

sometimes blend in with the 10000K pure white drl's to my eyes

dense shard
#

DRLs tend to turn off when a turn signal is used.

fathom socket
#

i think thats another US thing

#

i think in the uk they can do that but they dont have to

dense shard
#

That's a bit dumb.

charred depot

depends on the car ive only seen them really turn off here when they also work as the indicator

so not really turning off more changing colour

FCA cars do as well.

charred depot

my drls i turn on and they stay on all the time

charred depot

probably more a issue with the roads but could also be that because its a projector its only coming out a small area rather than spread over a large area of the lens

its daily i have to wipe them though

LED > halogen.

dense shard

Tesla is committing the one sin no automaker should.

Blame the driver.

indigo coral

what, with the Model X that had the brand new control arm break on the highway?

dense shard
#

That might fly with a cult, but it won't fly with the average consumer.

indigo coral

and Tesla told them to get stuffed?

dense shard
#

Honestly? The control arm sounds like a freak incident. That should be a "oh shit, let's get that fixed for you fam"

indigo coral
#

Yup

#

especially bc the car was 1 week old

#

not a rusty bucket of bolts

dense shard
#

Hardware failures are super rare these days.

#

Still... EV specific garages are pretty great.

#

Especially when an automaker can't really provide service.

indigo coral
#

Yes, except for very few people are going to use them

dense shard
#

Few people for now.

indigo coral
#

because if Tesla finds out you had it serviced anywhere but Tesla, your ass is banned

dense shard
#

After a point it really doesn't matter.

#

Once warranty is up, owning a Tesla becomes a lot more daunting it seems.

#

But in Norway. There are pretty strong consumer protections.

indigo coral
#

true, but you still want to be able to get updates and use superchargers and other fast chargers

#

once tesla bans your car, beyond just not being able to supercharge, you can't fast charge period

#

even on 3rd party fastchargers

dense shard
#

Legally speaking. Tesla shouldn't be able to ban you from going to a 3rd party. Otherwise it is literally anti-competitive practices.

#

I kinda get the salvage title thing.

#

Kind of, but their actions go against what they say... sooooooo yeah.

indigo coral
#

i think its scummy in general

dense shard
#

It's only acceptably by virtue of being the only one.

indigo coral
#

especially for the people who bought a salvage car, paid tsela thosuands of dollars to "recertify" it

dense shard
#

yeah, and then Tesla reversed course.

indigo coral
#

and then when they changed policy recently, they lost the recertified features

dense shard
#

And kept the money.

indigo coral

and no refund

#

yep

dense shard
