🤔

dense shard
#

IRS handles better.

civic girder
#

Depends.

#

Properly setup torsion beam/live axle can handle very nice

dense shard
#

90% of the time an independent rear suspension is better on packaging, refinement, handling, and comfort.

stoic ledge
#

Lodgy is the minivan

dense shard
#

A torsion beam's potential is much lower.

civic girder
#

It is more comfortable, for sure

dense shard
#

Independent rear suspensions have vastly more tuning potential.

civic girder
#

RX-7 does not take big bumps well with the live axle lmao

dense shard
#

With a lot of automakers. You'll find the Japanese have moved to IRS for better ride and tuning. Koreans and Germans are doing it to cut costs and add more tech.

civic girder
#

Speed bumps are hella uncomfortable, and bumps long enough to span the length of the car will make it hop

stoic ledge
#

Did it? Never noticed on the Lodgy

In the case of Mazda... save money to stay afloat.

The only reason shes even driving it is because her van is at Chrysler because of a recall. We have no idea when we will get it back

stoic ledge

Aftermarket parking sensors are never invisible, they always stick out

Even the factory options stick out.

stoic ledge

Some do, yes

But proper factory sensors are flush with the bumper

Ah thats new for me to know

dense shard

The factory sensors look like screw hole covers on a bumper.

indigo coral

Yeah

blazing tide

But why bother electromagnetic, oh companies.

civic girder
#

Back when we had a Toyota Sienna, my mom hit the driver's door of the Prius, and then scraped the van's front bumper on something in a parking lot. And a year or two before we got rid of it, she backed into a sign and punched a hole in the passenger side tail light lens that I later had to patch with tape

indigo coral
#

Rear cross traffic alert is obnoxious in our explorer

dense shard
#

Just use a back up camera. Those will beep at you.

indigo coral

It never is accurate lol

dense shard
#

I've had cross traffic save my bacon once already.

civic girder

My Prius beeps angrily in reverse, but does not warn you when you get close to anything

indigo coral
#

The explorer one is like BEEEEP for f**king everything, including the parked car next to you

the Lexus is the same way

blazing tide
#

Ahh convenience...

indigo coral

dense shard

My car just... does nothing.

indigo coral
#

My car doesn't even have traction control, so a backup camera is a pipe dream kekw

dense shard

Even the lines on the back up camera don't change.

civic girder
#

Now, my mom's Chrysler, it will begin to beep when you get close to something and beep aggressively if you get really close to something

indigo coral

rotary? rotaries are basically obsolete
@sterile holly

#

Why do the old things sound better tho

#

V10, V12s etc

#

not saying those are obsolete or old

but they will be dead in like 5 years

civic girder
#

You dare challenge the resident rotary worshiper?

median egret
#

hm

sterile holly
#

2-strokes are capable of more power but not economical

#

the rotary wears seals down too quickly

#

this means they are high maintenance

civic girder
#

😂

#

Piston engines wear down piston rings too

#

The difference is that rotaries have a shorter lifespan

#

Within that lifespan, they are reliable

#

And anything is technically high maintenance.

#

A piston engine you don't give a shit about will also blow uo

#

And yes, rotaries are shit on gas and bad on emissions. There's a way to fix it, but it would require lots of r&d

#

And then remember that the piston engine had over 50 years of r&d before the rotary was really a thing.

#

Its only natural that they're behind the curve

Is it a good idea to change the transmission fluid if you don't know when it was last changed?

My car is at 150K miles and it's on the list of things to do

They're not wrong

yeah its probaby due oe

stoic ledge

Usually it's like every other oil change

smoky halo
#

what should i mod on my rx7 when i get it

fathom socket
dense shard
#

replace the vacuum lines with silicone.

#

I'd focus on reliability mods.

civic girder
#

Replace all vacuum lines. Replace all coolant hoses. based upon pfp, you're getting an FD, in which case you should upgrade the cooling (better rad, heat wrap the engine bay, upgraded electric fans, etc). Make sure you replace spark plugs, wires, and check the coils. Ensure the motor is not running rich or lean. And change all the fluids. From there, its up to you @smoky halo

though I would also recommend you perform a compression test so that you can verify engine health and determine how soon you might need to rebuild the motor or start buying parts for a swap

dense shard
#

oh shit... FD?

#

I have great advice on how to tune those.

#

You just keep turning the boost up till the seals blow. You rebuild the engine, and turn the boost back a notch. boom, fixed.

#

(don't actually do that)

Hey peoples here I have a question:

My car kinda shakes around, seems like its toward the arse end of the car, when I'm on the highway at 60+ and let off the gas. Once i put power down, it mostly smooths out. Seems to happen more after I've been driving for a while and stuff warms up.

#

It seems to come and go

sometimes when I let off, it happens, then it'll smooth out for a little bit, and happen again

it's not road surface

Or a drive shaft? Idk

stoic ledge

civic girder
#

@smoky halo ah. If it's an FC, all the advice still stands. Though cooling upgrades are less of a concern since even the Turbo II (aka T2) FC (single turbo 13B) has adequate cooling.

A BMW platform wasn't used.

#

This was in fact not the case: Rover engineers had used the concept of incorporating a central tunnel which had been explored by BMW as part of their own research into front-wheel-drive chassis design, which would have been a departure from the BMW tradition of rear-wheel drive on the majority of its models.

#

And ultimately used a Ford V8.

devout atlas
#

At the time of the launch there had been speculation within the media that the Rover 75 used the BMW 5 Series platform, perhaps due to the overall size of the model, the apparent presence of a transmission tunnel and the use of the parent company's rear suspension system. This was in fact not the case: Rover engineers had used the concept of incorporating a central tunnel which had been explored by BMW as part of their own research into front-wheel-drive chassis design, which would have been a departure from the BMW tradition of rear-wheel drive on the majority of its models. As the 75 took shape, this core engineering was passed over to Rover and evolved into the Rover 75 structure[citation needed]. The tunnel concept, along with the rear suspension system, was also used by the Rover engineers for the design of the Mini.
