I do
Volume =/= good
it’s an automatic c10 from the mid 70’s, he’s gotta have something going for him
really, the whole truck goes against him
The officers around here could care less
He hasn’t gotten any noise complaints yet
The only reason there's no complaints is because people know the cops won't do anything
probably
So they have to sit there while their ears bleed because they are out of options
pretty much
And people with loud exhausts aren't really approachable, so it's not like you can ask em to stop.
They are probably used to it out here, since all cars either have no exhaust or holes in said exhaust
With no emissions tests, people don’t do anything about their exhaust unless they have to
"it's muh right as a 'murican citizen to have a loud pipe, General Lee didn't die on the cross for no Prius driver"
Around here, cops usually won't write you up for loud exhaust unless it's excessive. But if they pull you over for something else then they will add it to the list
oof
We have a 60db limit iirc
A car that marketed itself to an audience that was literally dying out... based on the Lincoln LS, the abject failure.
@dense shard it's not based on a lincoln LS, it is a glorified lincoln LS
But I think it only really applies at night time
believe it or not
As the LS was never sold as a 2 door.
few people liked them.
I like big, underpowered american cars
The Lincoln LS was considered a massive flop.
The BMW 5 series competitor that couldn't even compete against the CTS.
I can't wait to move to the states
Lincoln is like Audi. Audi is better than VW, but it's still VW. Lincoln is better than Ford, but it's still Ford
Audi is notably better than VW tho... and they have unique products in their stack.
Lincoln is like Audi. Audi is better than VW, but it's still VW. Lincoln is better than Ford, but it's still Ford
@civic girder rs6 v10?
Lincoln is just a Ford with lipstick on.
hello?
Lincoln is just a Ford with lipstick on.
@dense shard lincoln is a ford with a metal hip and an estate in florida
ah yes... the RS6. The most popular car in a demographic that can't afford it.
👌
The RS6 Avant, the most desirable car for the age brackets of 16-18.
2002 volvo s80
Ford Era Volvos aren't that fondly remembered.
A Nippa being?
I drove a Mira... it was among the worst cars I had ever driven.
Walking is better.
after the volvo, I really want to move on to that sweet SOHC 4.6 modular panther-body life
If you can find any that still run.
The cop car one were beat to shit, and aren't long of this world.
straight piped Lexus RX when
There aren't many CVs left in Alabama.
if not, I'll have to go dohc 4.6 modular with the marauder
Imagine paying 10k for a Panther.
no, the p71 interceptors are for posers
Imagine paying 10k for a Panther.
@dense shard hey, we all have our fetishes
Those are priced at delusional prices.
"It's a Marauder, it's good, we swear it's just like a modern day Grand National."
It isn't.
If you're gonna play cop get one of the cop taurses
no one uses Crown Vics anymore.
If you want to cosplay a cop, you buy a Tahoe or Explorer.
no one uses Crown Vics anymore.
@dense shard I saw a few when I visited your country
In black.
Actually state patrol and sherrifs here still use a few crown vics
The newbie sled.
*p71 interceptors
But we live in an area w/o rust
My area has changed over entirely to not Crown Vics.
So Chargers, Tahoes, Explorers.
Our area has taurus, explorer, fusion, Model S, highlander, F150, Tahoe, Suburban, Impala and Charger
A stock Crown Vic is already no faster than my Corolla.
Add 500 pounds of equipment, and it becomes glacial as far as cop duties go.
No Mercedes B-class diesels with glued flappy pedal gearboxes?
Nope
Sad
@stoic ledge cyl coming yes
hype for new parts yes
oh, of course some police departments have Porsches or Corvettes.
y'know... for "PR"
prrprrr
RIP
life is
now ya dont need the door
It's PR shit.
Or seized drug cars.
They show up at cars and coffee to flex their base 911.
They use all their cars for traffic cop duty here
Somehow
I didn't know you could use a non-pursuit rated car for traffic duty
Ah yes, zhe Transporters
hey again
We have those as well
you can call me BillNyetheHeavyAndSlowAmericanCarFanboy
or might use some oldass focus
I doubt the use vettes for traffic duty.
They dont need spike strips when you have the Model S on your fleet
I've only ever seen them used for DARE shit.
The body panels falling off work just as well
I'll bring back the panther body
ew
what happened to aerial?
Those were under powered turds.
what happened to aerial?
@indigo coral arial?
Aerial left
Ye
Those were under powered turds.
@dense shard freedom ain't free

The Crown Vic was the de facto cop car because it was cheap to replace.
It was cheap to repair.
And durable mechanically
Not really.
with a mildly decent motor
Apparently the average taxi cab in New York would go through several transmissions before being retired.
Decent motor?
It was a 4.6L engine that made barely 220 horsepower.
Depends on the motor, then
3L V6
Still running no?
Yes
So much for understressed being better.
220 is actually under-rated
Wow, I don't hear about them failing.
ford tended to do that
Ford didn't underrate their engines.
3.5L on the 2007 RX gets 300hp naturally aspirated
it's more like 225-230
And it's reliable af
225... wow 5 more horsepower.
yes
actually
302
XD
the triple carbs had 400
the base actually produces 320
allegedly
Apparently the average taxi cab in New York would go through several transmissions before being retired.
Bwah that's to be expected after 500k miles of stop and go traffic tbh
I haven't heard that being an issue in the Prius or other taxi cabs.
What was the small SUV Ford made?
Escape?
that's the one.
The Escape Hybrids apparently each had about 500k miles.
Original batteries.
How's that for durability?
Honestly, the CV isn't a horrible car.
I honestly think it was vastly overrated.
That's probably the benefit of a CVT right there
But yeah the Escape was a great NYC cab as far as I've heard/read (never been in one or anything)
dream car right there
That's... extremely cheap.
And that's overpriced.
oh
American used car market is a whiplash of knowing what I got, no low ballers.
hmm
Thonk
A VAG product with a TFSI engine and 250k km
no thnx
prepare to spend $200k on repairs
^ every month
more GVA
Grouppe Volkswagene Auddi
I just made that up
PantHer BoDy
anyway
gtg
@devout atlas I saw a PT Cruiser cab the other day.
Wanna see something weird
Yes
Hi crazy, I'm MK

Nice way of blocking your view to the right tho

What car should I get from this 4 cars
Mazda mx5 first Or 2nd gen
New beatle cabrio
Or saab 9 3 cabrio
I can't find cars that are more interesting in that price range

It's my guess that late 2020 will be a great time to buy a car.
I really need a car to get my ass to work
I really want an EV to cut down on costs.
Ev would bring the costs up here
They are like 40% more expensive
And the charging stations are more expensive than gasoline
EV only makes sense if you can charge at home on the daily.
In Switzerland u ha e free chargers
Or charge at one of your main locations.
But here
It's something like 26 cents per kwh
No wait
It costs 0.48 USD per kWh
You get up to 60,000 SEK bonus for getting a zero emissions vehicle.
Which is like $6,000
Thats almost nothing
And yearly tax is in the $30 range. Instead of the $200+ range.
Idk
I think I pay $260 in yearly tax?
Taxes
I don't pay taxes for my car
Yet
But ev doesn't make any sense for me since I don't have a garage or a driveway
And charging stations are ridiculously expensive
I can get 4x the range for the same price with my car
On like 5 mins I have full tank
And also i would be range limited
I can't do 500 km without charging
EV's are great as daily drivers. But sadly they really only work if you have a place to charge at.
Either place of work, or at home.
Plugin hybrids
It's also best if you have a secondary vehicle.
With have higher costs, though.
I can't afford having 2 cars
I would need to buy a new parking spot
Pay insurance
That would double the costs
Look.
What I am saying that EV's are great for people who have the charging infrastructure. And doesn't have the need to travel 500 km+ in a day.
EV would work for me, since we have two spots for cars. One on the street parking, and one in the community garage.
My main issue is charging. I would require the need to charge on the daily. Honestly.
I personally do 100 km's daily, going to/from work. So 500 km's a week just commuting.
I currently pay over $400 a month for just fuel and congesion charges.
Me getting an EV would cut that down so dang much.
I think I pay $260 in yearly tax?
Imagine not paying 660€/year for a Corsa
wtf. For tax? For insurance, I would understand.
What the bork? Monthly tax???
How is that even calculated?
Based on weight and fuel
CO2 eMiSsIoNs is taxed on first registration
And then monthly tax based on fuel type + vehicle weight
That's like, stupid. And becomes real expensive, fast.
Imagine why we all drive in tiny cars
It's really like paying a for a second insurance.
Yes, it's expensive
hmm
I could cheat this
buy a car with 1.0 engine
and swap it to a 5.6l v8
and still pay the 1.0l engine
pretty sure that wouldn't work
@fathom socket When you go in for an MOT or whatever the equivalent is, it won't pass
And depending on the country, you might get fined
For not asking the government about the modifications you do to your own car
not to mention voided insurance
@fathom socket it passes in poland
I have a friend who has a car registered with 1.6 engine but he has 2. 0
Then the inspectors in Poland know nothing about cars
And while the differences between a 1.6 and a 2.0 might be subtle
The difference between a 1.0 and a 5.6L V8 won't be subtle
lol
plus the car with the 1ltr engine is unlikely to drive to well with a v8 in it
The V8 won't fit in it unless you cut the front firewall
and the arches
and convert it to RWD
Pretty much the whole interior
You might be better off just putting that engine where the rear seats are
take off the whole body n just whack the engine somewhere on the chassis, according to talonmuff it will still pass, so ok

Me_irl

93 of 9-3?
9-3
petrol manual
I hate diesels
or should I get the scotty kilmers favorite car
@fathom socket If you don't want to have a headache looking for parts
Get an old corolla
Or a celica
And it'll last you a lifetime
corolla is too boring
Then get an mx5
but also the older mx5 have problem with parts
If you are in the US
No
Or UK
I live in europe
switzerland
NB Miata then
Their engine parts are usually shared
With other Mazda's
And some Ford's
I have a focus
but I want something cabrio
puegots 206 and 306 are very common
Cabrio's Look homo
2 days ago you needed the space of a wagon
If you need the space of a wagon
I need to get my ass to work
Get Skoda Octavia or a passat
and have a toy for weekend
Station wagon
I don't need a wagon
Then get a Skoda Octavia 1.8T
but it's a VW
Basically a gti
What's wrong with that
they are boring
Everything

Or a foxbody Mustang with the Windsor 302
if I wanted I would get a porshe boxter or a subaru
And split the block in half
And the insurance would kill you
You want a Cabrio?
Nissan Micra convertible.
Get a Celica convertible
Joking aside.
Or a Megané convertible
The Saab 9-3 convertible was an interesting piece of work.
If I remember correctly, it wasn't built by Saab.
It was but finding parts for it is a bitch
Parts for Saabs are still available, but not cheap
There's also the Volvo C70.
You can get a convertible Megané I
a new beatle?
If you want a convertible that much
I wouldn't get the Beetle.
Both the C70 and 9-3 Convertible has wuite some flex in them... Which is sad. You even notice it over speedbumps
They aren't known to be particularly good cars.
Mind you the new new Beetle looks quite nice
Because they are boring
They aren't known to be particularly good cars.
Is any VW
yeah
And german
but it's the only VW car that I would get
my ford focus is also german
And the worst one
Best choice you have is the Miata.
Get a Peugeot 307 CC 😛
I would not get an older convertible tbh.
did the 7 gen celica came as convertible?
Replacing the top on any convertible is a pita.
All of the ones that were AWD at some point came in convertible@fathom socket
Can't remember which one is 7th gen
Wait what? I don't think there was a 7th gen Celica Convertible
All convertibles do.
Get a Mini Convertible
Unless you get a Mazda or Toyota.
Those don't break down, those rust away
@fathom socket 5th and 6th gen came with convertible
Not 7th gen
crap
6th gen is sleek
And cool
well
the problem is
The Ford Focus had a convertible model.
the car is gonna to be too old
Yes
2nf gen Focus
A car doesn't make someone's sexuality.
then not
A car doesn't make someone's sexuality.
This
@dense shard a pink or a silver Street Ka does
Why silver?
I drive a white focus
what does that make me
They look abysmal in silver
@fathom socket a working person
It makes you Talonfluff.
Speaking of which. VW Eos.
There's another one. Basically Euro Jetta convertible.
Eos will be too expensive probably
Yeah, but it was produced until recently.
Euro Jetta
So Golf
And it's a hardtop.
I'm gonna to buy another focus
butthe summer get's really hot now
I can guess a person's gender by looking at the car they drive and how they drive
uhuh
If it's a Micra standing in the middle of a street with the hi beams on
That's a woman
And it is always a woman
You won't believe how many times I came across that
And if it's a VW Polo parked at the side of the road?
Or a Ford Focus?
Or insert any random car
Usually men or college girls
Or a Corolla?
Corolla is just an old man
... yeah... no
Monte == old confirmed
Well in where I live, the youngest old Corolla driver I've ever seen was in his late 30s
🏳️🌈 ... Those are just the rules Monte
But I never even owned a Miata.
But I digress. Sexuality does not dictate car choices.
So you are a man in his late 30s?
okay?
I see... so hairline dictates age.
I'm saying that I look old
I've learned so much today.
Not that I am
Probably true
Volvo C70 might be an option
but it's kind of big
I really don't want to stereotype people based on what and how they drive
But everytime I think of it
Cause right now it sounds like you drive a lifted Dodge Ram.
Because the facelift looks stupid
Too expensive probably
No more than Talon I imagine.
I guess this is what people stereotyped feels
So far you've implied a lot.
there is a reason why I don't want anything german
Is it because they are too boring?
also
the bad stereotypes
You just said what car you drive shouldn't affect who you are
ford focus stereotype is company vehicle
yeah
Why are you talking about a stereotype now
but pretty much if u have a VW passat here
Not for Focus' of that age
you just gonna to get in a lot of trouble
because that car is a meme in poland
If it was unreliability I'd get it
and also
it was a company vehicle
my focus
and newer focuses usually are
But now you say "Uh bad stereotypes uh duh" despite ridiculing me for stereotyping
when I see anything german neae me
I get scared
they always drive reckless
Stop stereotyping
Please
Do you drive a dodge ram uh
who?
no clue
Tho for luxury cars, studies have found that owners of higher end luxury brands do tend to drive more recklessly.
Higher end luxury cars being... Cadillac, BMW, Mercedes, Audi.
Jaguar as well.
studies
Please no stereotyping
Well I saw a woman in a BMW use their blinkers once
im not sure if you'd put that down to the car the person is driving
Higher income people tend to buy higher end cars.
That hardly means more rich people drive recklessly.
Mind = blown
There's stereotyping and then there's stereotyping.
id say higher income people are more likely to be in those kinds of jobs which have that really busy lifestyle or need them to be assholes
Tying sexuality to body choice or color is a bit of a misnomer.
like managerial roles and stuff
Especially considering I drove a pink kei car for a couple of years.
We used to own a VW Bora and I feel insulted
VW Bora?
You drove a Jetta...
ill show myself out
Well I didn't drive it and I hated it
okay?
But you know we used to own one
and?
VR6 was the most it got.
It's the one car every car fan wants, but not really.
i probably wouldnt buy it over say a 4 series or something
And anything goes wrong
Boom the intake comes off
Half of the front end comes off
Worst case scenario engine out job
@fathom socket I remember the Arteon being a lot better than a 4 series
In terms of like standard equipment
Overglorified passat
No, Bora == Jetta
@fathom socket I remember the Arteon being a lot better than a 4 series
HAHAHA
Funny guy
its cheaper in US anyway so its a kinda invalid comparison
It's still a BMW and looks the same as a 3 series
Or a 5 series
dunno it looks nicer than a 3 series
I can not differentiate BMWs
If you say so
the coupe
its wider so its proportions are better for a sporty car
They all look the same without any special differences
Weird grill
If that's the case, an Arteon looks just like a Passat
im not really talking about the new one
Does it? I haven't seen the new Passat
although that grill has grown on me
arteon looks quite different from the passat
I have seen an Arteon and they look pretty nice
Well yeah but so does the 4er grom the 3er and 5er lol
"new" Passat
Ah wait you're a US dude
Huh
And the facelift change literally nothing in looks
and theres an arteon facelift and a shooting brake version today
both of those look nice
id say it looks like a vw and i guess thats all people want from a vw
And the HVAC controls are horrible... Can't believe they ditched the 3 rotary dials for touch buttons
big brain way of saying it i know
@stoic ledge omg I've realized why I haven't seen a new Passat yet
Because it looks the same as the older one lmao
the interior looks alright but id probably go for something more like a used lexus
Yea can we just establish that all German manufacturers nowadays make their cars look the same
and that wood aint it chief
I like wood but not in there
Yea can we just establish that all German manufacturers nowadays make their cars look the same
Yesn't
I like wood on my seats
yeah it doesnt quite work with the whole angles thing
Because I like my bum hurting
Lewd
gotta love that estate tho
That does look rather nice
Yeah looks good
Want
yes gimmie
Alpina B3 gets close
E34 Touring looks pretty nice
M340i isn't bad either
E34 and E39 is
The 5er after the E34
I do like Ferraris hatchback/shootingbrakes
GTC4 lusso something something
lamborghini why isnt this a thing yet
Yes Baboon, gib pls
Arteon rear kinda reminds me of this Peugeot:
https://www.activlease.nl/media/uploads/nl/news/og/peugeot_508_sw_voorkant.jpg?_=1557311696
anyone that owns a huge suv should just get an estate instead
theyre just better in europe
I agree
#banthemsuvthangs
I agree
SUVs aren't more practical, heavier, use more fuel, drive worse and are more expensive
And still people buy them like, idk, toilet paper
In bulk
i love how they actually have less space like how
the things like 4x the size of a small planet
Yes
I'd take an Wagon all day long
SUVs are stupid
E34 nice but rare now, especially in good condition
You can still find them
Not like the hot ones
so things we need to do is ban suvs
With the 6 cyl or the v8
unban pop ups
But lower end 4 cyls
ban bad touch controls
Jon 4 president
Meh not necessarily
hybrids are nice.
I like getting 60 mpg
I can do that with my crummy hatch
Too bad Toyota doesn't sell the Corolla HB hybrid in the US.
hybrids make sense as an intermediary but i personally only like the plug in ones
Did you mean: Corolla Touring Sports 2.0 Hybrid?
I also have ones I like
yes, MK.
But some I loathe
Yeah I'd get a PHEV tbh, like a V60 T8
Or hatch, I'm not judging.
Also any mild Corolla is cool
I'd probably give up a manual for the hybrid 2.0L.
CR-Z wasn't the car we wanted. It was the car we deserved.
Ban all CVTs, either dual clutch or manual
CVT > DCT
Dual clutch :disgust:
DCTs belong on a race track, and that's really about it.
Some dual clutches are fine
Torque converter ZF 8HP > any DCT
^
Honestly for daily driving, CVTs and torque converter automatics are the best.
Dual clutches are like VWs DSG
I'm looking for comfort and smoothness. Not speed.
ZF 8HP gives both comfort and speed
I don't like how it makes me feel
Yeah I'm no fan of CVT either
Although the technology is brilliant
And they're great when you're slow ez cruizer
Always the optimal ratio
I like the fact that CVT used to be a feature only old people got back in the mid 20th century
And those people like put 20mph speed limit on their cars
So they didn't require a driving license
And to break that image, the patent holders built a hill climb race car
With cvt

I don't mind CVTs. I haven't had one get weird on me yet.
DAF used CVTs in the 50s-70s shich could go as fast forwards as backwards
They held reverse races
Aren't those usually for trucks?
Many DAFs died in those races
Lmao
DAF? Yes
hahaha trust the dutch to do something right

can we get the reverse f1 races to be literally in reverse?
Its not as cool but there is a Renault F1 car singing God save the queen
👀
Welcome back
How long does it take for shit to get to you from jegs I’m gonna buy one of those 35 dollar plastics seats for a sim
🤔 idk xD
Nvm
I think I can't drive a car when I have knifes on my back
I don't mean literally
Thonk
saab
s u p e r B e e t l e
okay someone tell me if its a bad idea
to get a 1986 pontiac trans am as a first car
just found a listing online for one that runs great and is 6k, and they said you can inspect the car and etc
also 71k miles
first car?
damn
I'd go with a panther body though
the thing is, you'll miss the modern conveniences of the 90s
and early 2000s
also, 6k is a lot
I found some 21 year old antifreeze
Damt .. trans am as first car 😄 .. guess u live in the US ..
Here i got a ford sierra from 85 as first car .. Like 20 years ago 1.6liter and 75 ponyes
Today i drive a Suzuki ignis .. Gets the job done .. Cheap 😛

@frail shore the only downside I see is that it's gonna be really hard on fuel, other than that there's nothing wrong with getting an older car as your first car
I'd probably go for a 3rd gen Camaro over a Trans Am, run the 305 till it blows up and then swap in a 350 or a 400
less money
Jealous of the some of those cars you got up in the US
I'd love to import but that gets expensive real quick!
Transam as a first, yes please
Escort Cosworth would be an awesome first car 😄
The BMW M3 enters its sixth generation in 2020. The first official driving shots of the new BMW M3 G80 provide an exclusive insight into the development of the high-performance sedan on the world's most challenging test track - the 'Nordschleife' of the Nuerburgring.
BMW M3: F...
let me guess, a kidney grille the size of Proxima Centurai
ah
it's not
that's nice
At least it looks better with a license plate.
imagine wirking in the 90s to work on the ultimate driving machines
and after graduation, see this
I just don't like how cars are becoming isolationi chambers.
I hate how the 'ultimate driving machines' are degrading to shitty 4 pot diesel shitboxes with more stuff crammed in there than a sorority bathroom on new year's eve
Grille
People want luxury and comfort.
Some of the stuff is regulations, sure.
But a lot of it is just consumer preference.
Why are we complaining about these relatively minor issues with cars
We still haven't banned SUVs yet
The 4 series is uglyyy
@indigo coral I feel like they're trying to make it look furturistic
4 series is and will always be sexy
(Totally not bias towards 4 series for whatever reason)
What happened
@dense shard Most people just really wants a vehicle to take them from point A to B in a quiet, and comfortable manner. They could give two rats about a car being 'sporty'. Sadly.
I wished that hydraulic steering was still a thing 😦
bruh

I'm fine with comfort tbh
The grill doesn't look that bad on the X7 tbh
The grill words on bigger things.
The Mazda BT-50 is a new ute / pick-up from Mazda, now based on the trusty Isuzu D-Max platform. The BT-50 used to be based on the Ford Ranger, but that's no longer the case. A brand new vehicle, now styled to look more like a Mazda CX-9 SUV, the BT-50 will compete with the Vo...
I wish the US would bring this to the US.
@dense shard If Mazda brought that to the US, I'd highly consider getting a used one in a few years for rotary
I mean in like a few years
after a lot of people's leases ended or people sell/trade in for something else
"save the manuals," they scream
"okay" says Kia
"we don't want this" they respond
"kill the manuals, this is fake!!!!!!!"
ooh people talk
is it awful or something?
It's a weird clever trick, but it sounds like Kia is trying to cater to an audience who will shit on them for trying. lol
I don't know about awful.
is it really different/hard to use or something?
@stoic ledge höhö kaas
I imagine it will be easier to use.
Or are the save the manuals people just the old boomers who screech about anything electronic
lol
lol
Here's the question for anyone here who drives a manual.
At what point does a manual become fake?
yes what question
GASP you don't have to walk around front and crank start your car? It's a fake car.
Sounds like trump ngl
when it doesnt have a clutch or doesnt do weird sounds when shiftin to reverse
Cause clutch actuation isn't done by a rod/cable/whatever.
It's all hydraulic.
Is moving it to electric suddenly fake?
on the plus side this is less shit to break
and I'd imagine it's going to be harder to damage stuff
Certainly less fluid leaks.
That's one thing a lot of people missed on the move to electric power steering.
Zero chance of burning out a pump.
There isn't one.
electric power steering is fine imo
well
i've never driven a car with electric steering
so
LMAO
i have
I don't think our Explorer or Taurus are electric, I think they're still using old style
Could be wrong though 🤔
only noticed a difference when drove into a rock
meh abs
abs is mandatory imo, incase of emergency situation
never seen it useful
traction control idc as much, but i have an awd car that you'd have to be a special kind of stupid to spin out w/o snow
idk about rwd
mine is fwd
more important there ig
traction control useless as hell
but you'd have to seriously fuck up in order to spin out my RX
just floor it if startin to spin
Do that in my car for a fun time
yyyeeees
if you want to die in my car, go ahead and go into a corner way too fast then floor it while going around said corner way too fast
what year yes
Lexus moved to EPS for the RX in 2008.
Oof
My grandpa's RX that I might buy is a 2007

Rip reliability stats for that car
What, why?
