Is that an Eddie Bauer ๐
Yes

It needs one kinda major thing
Valve stem seals
I can do it in vehicle
And heads in
And cam in
So i just need seals
And valve cover gaskets
Coils and plugs
And 3 days
The fact the 4.6 has rockers
Saves my rear
I dont have to touch the cam

I just need to get some time
And the parts
So its 120 for the gaskets and seals
200 for coils
And 100 for plugs
So a 420$ job
And 2 cases of beer
To get me and my friend through this
Oof
Barra
๐
yes
With the SpaceX package, your Tesla Roadster will most likely be louder than every motorcycle around when it accelerates. U know those stabilization Thrusters on the falcon rockets?
Anyway, I'm very exited for when the Cybertruck Hits the market and I can get one myself in Germany. Not a downsized or modified one. Just the pickup as intended. ๐

I just can't see myself driving in that
it's clearly inspired from the 80s
the best one is clearly this:

cheese

With over 350,000 units sold in 2019, the #NissanRogue is one of the most important models ...
yes
another crossover
the sad thing is that these things look striking
but nobody will give them vredit for it
because they will be everywhere
That's the point
because they will be everywhere
Otherwise RIP Nissan lol
RIP any brand.
Only Ferrari can pretend sales figures don't matter.... then again they're also planning an SUV soon, so their views on market trends aren't to be trusted.
What premium-ish RWD sedans are being sold today?

@dense shard popular appeal just attracts more haters to a car
dual edged sword
People who hate popular things are in a vast minority.
And frankly they aren't a relevant market to aim for. Likely hipsters and "car guys" who only buy used.
It's less a catch 22 and more of a cognitive dissonance amongst car fans.
"Why don't automakers make more manual cars."
or
"Why don't automakers sell stripper models with only the most basic of features."
Well... the average consumer wants an automatic with plenty of features... and an automaker isn't gonna cater to the second hand market.
"we want this kinda car" they say
"okay, here you go" says the automaker
"oh I never buy used, that's stupid" they say
@civic spoke G70! ๐ That can be had rwd, the Stinger, uhh the GS F but I really doubt you'd want that, plus the typical bmw/Audi/Mercedes
We don't get the Genesis brand over here in Europe.
Heard that.
If you don't get Genesis, I presume you don't get the big Lexus cars either?
I would ideally get something with a manual as well.
It's basically just BMW.
@dense shard
Well... I guess Mazda sells manuals as well.
RWD
Miata
I find it kind of funny. I find it kind of sad.
The dreams in which I'm driving are the best I've ever had.
No idea what kind of payload capacity a F350 even has.
It can hold 3 scoops of gravel from a small bulldozer or something lol
Third generation F350 seems to have a payload capacity of like 3,000 kg.
My truck can only hold like a scoop and a half ๐ฆ
Front loader, that's what you were thinking of.
Then again, it's stuff like these that do the loading for me.
Suddenly, a random Dutch comment appears
ไฝใฎใใจใงใใ
Yes
Had a new thought about the Cybertruck.
How much electricity will the air compressors use...
@stoic ledge Kaas
๐ง
@fathom socket
this was around 2300 lbs
Max payload for my truck is around 1800-2000 lbs
Oof
๐
was messing around with a r34
didnt see the cop, ended up getting me on laser at 240-250 k's
And this is just another reason why I obey the law
So you got caught doing 150 in a 60... That's a felony in the US.
casual 150mph in an suv as u do
dammnit ive watched 1 video on a 787b and now i want a rotary
@fathom socket neighbor was doing a patio, i had the time and truck ๐
sweet :3
right now I'm just fixing the brick wall at the house from 1898
some bricks are good and the rest became red dust
i am no expert, but it sounds like bricks becoming dust would affect their structural integrity
Yeah :p
The houses in Richmond city needs work on as well they are from 1907s and up
Not as bad as the one I'm working on
Need to dust my cars again
@dense shard Can't get arrested for it, but 2 weeks impound, probably like a 600 dollar fee to have it in the impound
the fine is going to be upwards of 2-3k probabl
but the last time i got impounded i literally disputed and the cop was a no-shwo
no-show*
this cop seemed like a hardass, the one that issued the fine, as we were joking around with all the other cops there but he wasn't having it, so he'll probably show
Hope he does.
Driving like an ass isn't exactly an admirable thing... nor is it smart.
Highway 1 was empty, we only got up to so high cause it was so open. I rarely open up any of my cars, just got unlucky
Doing well over double the speed limit is... good thing no one decided to change lanes.
I didn't argue lmao, i pulled over right away knew i was in the wrong and abided
Wait they took your car :( ?
I don't speed or drive distracted. I know full well the consequences of both.
both can cause a legal nightmare and both can result in your death, the death of others, and/or the loss of your vehicle.
Legal nightmares are a pita and a waste of time
Rather than coughing up money and spending time in the courtroom, I could be spending that money on something worthwhile and spending that time doing something fun
I know the consequences, I wouldn't do it if I was putting anyone in danger, again 4 lane highway fully open for a good 5kms
I do the crime, I pay the fines for the crime
The cops themselves weren't even that aggressive towards me, they were laughing, asking us to rev up our cars before they got towed away
Sure the speeds we're going were fast, but I don't see anyone questioning its justa6 when he goes 190mph on a highway with cars on it
Sometimes having fun can be done safely, we just got the consequences of having said fun
Not like I'm trying to say im in the right, I know exactly what I did wrong, I didnt fight with the cops about it, it was illegal and I'll deal with it lol
ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
Camera roll is pretty dry car wise so Iโll repost this from last weekend
I'd recommend a race track for extra legal speeds for fun.
Also finally saw another 'rolla hatchback yesterday. Blue Flame this time.
Lukewarm fun for the practical mid life crisis.
Honestly both the Camry and Avalon TRDs lack a limited slip differential.
But suspension, wheels, tires, and a few other bits to spice it up? I'd say cool beans.
Still... at this point in time I might get the hybrid Avalon for the extra quiet/refinement.
Itโs a neat take on them
The limited slip is something I heard from a reviewer.
The first bit is my take.
It's amazing how feature heavy modern cars are.
20 years ago you were lucky to get dual airbags and ABS.
Now my car sees lanes, speed limit signs, and has radar cruise. That's on top of all the other stuff. It's great. Especially back up cameras.
my 1995 f150 has A/C, cruise, power locks and power windows and i feel spoiled ๐คฃ
My 1998 explorer had ac cruise power locks and windows, keyless entery and dual lamp fog lights
My car has ac cruise, power windows, fog lights, ABS, but lacks traction control, stability control, VSC, navigation, and power locks/keyless entry

My newer explorer has too much
What year?
2007
Its fun to drive but oof thank God the for the recently expired warranty
hopefully it doesnt have more problems
Ours has the 3.5 Ecoboost V6
I have 4.6 triton
It spent a month and 10k charged to the warranty at the dealer lol
Because the timing chain randomly decided to stretch and mess some stuff up - didn't get the engine entirely out of time but messed up the cam phasers and stuff
Ditching body on frame was a bad move
Meh, it's a people hauler not a tower
I can tow with the g4
We have a 97 F250 for towing duty
Its a ranger under the body
Banks kit, 7.3 Powerstroke
we have no reason to tow with the explorer, so better driving dynamics are preferred to body on frame
The new bronco is body on frame
If a long wheel base exist
I may get it
I may crawl to gm
Yukon
nice
The RX-7 has AC, and manual everything. Manual windows, manual steering, manual trans, manual lights, manual choke, the works.
The Prius has AC, power locks, power windows, power steering, CVT, manual lights (but auto turn off), no choke, etc.
The Corolla has everything except for an automatic transmission.
I used to have power locks but they don't work anymore

โค๏ธ
What do yall think of the Mistubishi 3000 GT
Japanese car is japanese car
^ great observation
@fleet gust my grandfather had a 1995 f150 brown and white one. I have it still running but every time I get in his truck it reminds me of him during the old days
Still runs amazing at 310 thousand miles
Still runs amazing at 310 thousand miles
@fathom socket 310000? kek
ford reliability time
I kept the oil change every 5000 miles it less
Same thing for my Hyundai Tucson 2005 at 340 thousand miles
I'm curious how many miles I can put in a Hyundai Genesis 2011 with it's twin turbo from it's previous owner
Don't understand why you need two turbos on a 4 cylinder engine lol
S p 3 3 d
oof
Oh god
fun fact: the Porsche 914-6 is one of very few cars that is worth more now than it was when new
in 1970 you could buy a brand new 914-6 for $6000 USD. That's about $40,000 today. To buy a nice example now though, you'll pay at least double that.
i really wouldn't say very few
a bunch have appreciated
The carerra RS (and RS america)
@fathom socket
I just rolled over 300k on the 10th
I change my Oil every 5k AND do a full grease, every 10k I clean the K&N air filter, every 15k I change the Fuel Filter and Coolant Filter (Yes I put a coolant filter on it), every 25k I change the trans fluid, 30k is an Ignition tune up, 50k is rear axle oil, and 75k is coolant.
at some point in there I rotate the tires too
At the 300k oil change I sent an oil sample to Blackstone Laboratories to get analyzed
25k trans fluid
Still running the original fluid after 80k miles
Oil every 10k miles
Well I could probably extend the Trans to 50k
but the trans is one I got off craigslist for $250 out of a 1989 F350, and I have no idea how many miles are on it
What's an oil change?
I've never changed my trans oil
What's an oil change?
Idk, I always replace the engine
I shsould probably do a diff change.
I'm approaching 10k km since my last oil change, gonna do an engine change this time I think
Hey guys this is a long shot but Iโm replacing the speakers on my car and they are riveted and Iโm attempting to re-rivet the new ones in but the mandrel (stem) of the rivet breaks off too early. Am I using too short of a rivet? The 1 second video is the back of the rivet behind the speaker (I stuck my phone back there to see if it was holding well or not)
I still have one of those
Cost around 4 euros
@tiny forge Looks like too short rivet to me
I was thinking getting new ones lol
Now I have to it's even more broken looking
I was thinking getting a little low profile ones
True lol
my ford has thiccer tires on it
That's good for heavy loads
i got 4wd and drive on gravel some times
:3
I got bread and rwd, best combo
Btw Hyundai Genesis will NOT clim up gravel driveways
It was terrifying
Now I'm hungry
if i want rwd i just need to drop the front axel
I honestly want to go overkill and get PliotSport 4 tires for my car.
The more normal PS4, and not the PS4S
Looks at personal car that's over twice that age
I have one tiny scuff on my car.
I did hit what I'm pretty sure was a bottomless pothole leaving a parking lot once.

It's fine.
My suv is like potholes? What are those
Also i want body on frame so shots like this can exist
C70, nice
Fuck yeah

btw
treasure trove
shit filters, they barely work
but dayum there are some NICE pics here
oof yes those filters are bad
so many nice pics tho ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
Yeah Volvo's are nice
very ๐
@sudden plaza my brother bought a V40 D2 R-Design like you btw, basically the exact same spec
Only it's black
Also with the 2.0, not the 1.6
remap as well
๐ณ
Das boot
lol
@stoic ledge niceee
Ah my bad
With a sport styling body kit
black
tfw
Nice
Good thing he didn't bought the 1.6 though
It has the 18" R-Design wheels instead of the super smoll 16"
PSA engine
Yeah 2.0d was a requirement xD
solar wheels are best volvo wheels ๐ค
And it has the 17" Summum wheels as winter tires
Kek same wheels
mk is that an actual pic of yours?
Most are grey
@tender finch my brother's
yes
Thicc exhausts
i am new here, what is lmg warship
mmmm
A bot which is super trigger happy to mute you
epic
@sudden plaza even the license plates aren't much apart lol
first gen RX-7
Well, that's one way to get introduced to the bot ๐
been there ๐

He'll be back in 5 minutes
@sudden plaza yours has some fins on the boot spoiler? Ours doesn't
And some added black trim
Ours is just one big smooth spoiler
Yep
Thats an optional thing
From the styling body kits
It was also available on the r-designs
Easy to replace btw
back xd
Originele Volvo accessoires, levertijd 1 tot 3 werkdagen en gratis verzending vanaf โฌ 50,-.
Ah, that's another seperate option then? because it already has the optional style package with the side skirts and stuff on the bottom corners
@stoic ledge ye
he spammed "triangle" when he found out I had a rotary @indigo coral
o
triangle many times
Lol
exceeds word length -> mute
is it my turn to make the apex seals joke?
The bot is extremely trigger happy
yes

I've heard almost all the apex seal jokes

I'd tell you an apex seal joke, but I'd probably blow it.
@sudden plaza https://www.vstore.nl/styling/zweedse-vlag/
This is awesome
Wees trots op het Zweedse erfgoed en voeg de Zweedse vlag toe aan jouw auto.
I'd tell you an apex seal joke, but I'd probably blow it.
that's a pun, not a joke ๐
lol
Maybe cool to add on the front
Yeah on the bonnet
For some reason they are also selling map updates
But those are free
Lol
5-cyl is cool tho
Rotary go brrr
ye
@stoic ledge chad 5 cyl
The Audi 5cyl makes lots of power doesn't it?
volvo has best 5 cyl
yes
for a 90s, fwd, heavy sedan or wagon...6.4 second 0-60 was VERY respectable
even today
400hp in the ttrs
except the VR5, its pretty shitty
The motor isn't shit
1.9 TDI won't die, the car around it is shite thho
The 5cyl
the 1.9tdi is the only non shit VW thing afaik
1.9 TDI won't die, the car around it is shite thho
@stoic ledge eeeeeexactly
My car is inherently shit too but I still drive it ๐คฃ
My car is inherently shit too but I still drive it ๐คฃ
@indigo coral It's a Toyota, its not shit
Welll the motor is awful and the trans is not great either lol
what car
The 1MZ is probably the most troublesome Toyota motor ever
With sludge and stuff if you use dino oil
which is impressive
Lexus RX 300
tho, the 1MZ does make more power than the 1NZ ๐
my parents have two, our 98 s70 t5 with manual (pog) and...07 530xi
wow
The 1Nz is the one in the Prius no?
and as with most e60 bmw
yes
good engine, awful everything else
well that's a 4 banger
I'd hope the 1MZ makes more power
220hp from a V6 is embarassing
BMW
good engine
hmmm, I don't think those belong in the same sentence
Alfa gets 500+ from slightly less displacement
@civic girder their i6s are pretty solid mechanically
yea, I will give them that
we haven't had a single mechanical issue
but god damn so many electrical ones
but the rest makes the engine kinda shit
right now there is a fucked radiator something sensor, broken trunk sensor so it always thinks its open, the entire infotainment thing is broken (bad caps likely) and that is just what i can immediately think of
If a 2 liter 4 cyl can make 400+ hp, a V6 should do better than 220 lol
what takes the cake is one time when some little led on the shifter went bad which was causing the battery to drain and car not to start among other problems, and it cost six fucking hundred dollars in labour and like ten cents in parts
bmw moment ๐
There's no need for a grandpa cruiser SUV to make more than 220hp tho
can it reach 75mph and cruise their comfortably?
if yes, then there's no problems
If a 2 liter 4 cyl can make 400+ hp, a V6 should do better than 220 lol
I don't think a N/A 4 cyl can do that
how many miles?
that's just getting broken in for a Toyota
yes
and if you can go 75 no problem, then the setup is fine lmao
our s70 is at 237k miles
also just broken in ๐
it aint a redblock volvo but still pretty damn reliable
My mom's car is like, fine at 85
it would be more stable with fresh bushings tho
which surprised me
the RX-7 is fine at 93mph
but with the leaky exhaust, it feels quite sketch with how much the car shakes and vibrates
probably shot motor mounts and suspension bushings too
I wonder how much the explorer/sho could do with out a speed lkmiter
probably like 170
speed governor, at least on the explorer, is probs like 115
I haven't seen a VW that isn't fucked
My VW is non shite
The badge says so
It's probably in as bad of shape as my buddy's old 06 Jetta
My aunt had a VW CC from new and that shit was in the shop like every day
The badge says so
Also great that I'm saying this while I let my sister in law buy a VW
@civic girder no rust at all
100% a lemon
doesn't need rust or a broken engine to be fucked lmao
my buddy's Jetta had issues with the coolant system and drive axles
Well he has a Golf 2, that's kinda before VW went to ****
And I dont care about the whole ThIS bRanD iS bAD
Every brand has good and bad cars
He had to repair coolant leaks like 2 or 3 times, had to replace the fuel pump, and had to replace the drive axles like 3 times ๐
so he got fed up and sold it
got a BMW diesel instead
Every brand has good and bad cars
Volvo only good
imo he just side graded
And I agree that modern VW is not really good compared to their old cars
Mazda mostly good
except for the Ford era in the 2000s
yea, the 2000s Mazdas rust bad
and the RX-8 was nothing but trouble
the Renesis remans are really where "rOtArY uNrElIaBle" came from
Very, my neighbours 2000 Mazda was written of and scrapped after just 10 years because it was rusted out ๐ And we don't have much salt on the roads
the RX-8s story is kinda hilarious
Although modern Mazda's I'd trust
same
The RX-8 had some weird issues
the early ones would suffer from an inability to start
RX-8 nice but.... so unreliable
so Mazda was like "must be engine"
Look at this solid car
Gotta love those 90s rims
were literal shit
Das original
Those wheels look cool dude

Soooo
Hahaha
Also:
https://www.vstore.nl/wielen/aluminium-velgenset-ailos-7-5-x-18/
Don't think I've ever seen a V40 with those wheels
Aluminium velgenset "Ailos" 7,5 x 18"
MK3 blows head gaskets as well
The video reminds of how I used to drive my Golf 3
Yeah
I'm buying an e-up now..
Cool
https://www.vstore.nl/wielen/aluminium-velgeset-sarpas-7-5-x-17/
It has these as winterreifen btw
Aluminium velgeset "Sarpas" 7,5 x 17".
Up's are cool
The up is literally the smallest car of VW
Aluminium velgenset "Mannan" 7 x 17".
And the e-up therefore the electric Version of it.
I don't want to drive to rhe fueling station. Just plug it in at home or work ๐
My winter wheels are the same model as the ones I use in the summer
But with some more curbdamage (stoeprand schade??)
Though I will miss being able to drive 180km/h+
I can imagine..
The R-Designs have some damage at one, but quite small
It's not that expensive to repair it
And the previous owner had them... we negotiated them in it and took of 250 of the price lol
And how about the mileage?
110k

Yeah it's not fully loaded, but it's not bad
Mine was 12k
12.250... Thats almost as much as a new e-up costs ๐คฃ
It has the High Performance iirc
No wait, the e-up costs about 9-10kโฌ
12.250... Thats almost as much as a new e-up costs ๐คฃ
Nein
Also e-up! can;t be ordered atm
And the V40 is a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay nicer car
No wait, the e-up costs about 9-10kโฌ
That's a used model then
The timing belt needs to be done around 150k btw
The timing belt needs to be done around 150k btw
Does it? I thought I read 200 something k
Or 10 years
The e-up costs about 21k, 10k you get paid back by government Promotion and you pay less tax after july first
V40 diesels are in general a good deal
Low in price (1/4 of new)
Reliable
And way nicer
So... Without Extras, you may get a factory new e-up with over 200km range for round about 10 grand.

Also, that range won't suffice for us
Speaking of Germany at least.
I ordered mine in march...
Delivery time: to be determined
Gerless ๐
We have something called BPM
VW will only produce just enough cars to meet the 90g/km CO2 limit
Making cars stupidly expensive
Co2 I do not care about at all
VW does
Co2 is no reason for me to buy a BEV tbh
They sell just enough to meet regulations
And you don;t have to worry about the criminal dutch importer
PON ๐ฉ
I rather would like to have a CyberTruck, but that will have to wait until it can be ordered
And don't expect it to be a silent electric vehicle. Ever heard offroad vehicles wheels at speeds over 150kph? ๐คฃ
yes
Now that I know that the Media lied about that the Cybertruck wouldn't get an authorization in Germany, I can Rest in Peace now. ๐
oof
It does. Just not as passenger vehicle. But as duty vehicle for either personell or cargo transportation with offroad-ability.
(N1G/M1G)
Even that x doubt without modifications
Regulations for duty vehicles are much less restrictive. You can have a sharp front, you also don't need a bumping area. Just the thing about cameras replacing mirrors would require a special classification, as there are in fact vehicles without mirrors which are allowed to drive on roads
Well not many people have such a license anyway, so np
We will see. I assume the Cybertruck to weight empty below 3 Tons, therefore u only need a normal driving license for it.
I think it'll be over 3 tonnes
Model X is already what, 2.6 ton?
This thing is bigger, bigger batteries...
Otherwise, I will make a license for trucks up to 7.5t. Because I really want it ๐
And paint it in olive
Oof
Well the thing is, if it's ยฑ 3 tons, you can only put ยฑ 500kg of stuff in it (including passengers), which is nonsense for a pick-up
Yeah. Usually I have around 3-5 guys.. Each between 90-110kg. Maybe an additional 20kg per passenger and eventually the Cyberquad on the bed.
Well that'd be way over the 3500kg limit on a regular license
The CT is more interesting for me as offroad vehicle and ATV carrier than it is as workhorse to transport material
Anyways, doesn't that color looks good? ^^
I only can hope Elon Musk does Listen to the community and may also offer a larger Version with more interior space without the bed.
Kinda like an APC
... U know... Stuff like this...
so....like a less cool Ford Excursion?
A larger Cyber Truck?
It's too big as it stands right now. Americans are already taxed to their limits on what they can drive. We don't need something bigger.
And I want to say that the size/weight of the trucks puts it in the next class up according to the EPA.
A little off topic, but found it pretty fascinating, CAT also has timelapses of the overall rebuilds. There are diesel-electric models now, a diesel generator feeding power to electric motors like in trains, kinda curious how those run and get rebuilt too.
https://youtu.be/kULbi1zckXo
I've put almost double the value in parts into the RX-7
I have put 1000 into the explorer
or at least purchase price value
Going to put 120 more in
in theory the car was worth double what I paid for it
As is its worth 11000
dang, not bad
worth more than both my cars combined
It has a v8 and 4wd on the top trim
Just saw a taycan on a flatbed pass my house
if I were to sell both, I could probably get $3-4k out of the RX-7. The Prius I might be able to get $4k if I changed out some of the hybrid battery cells
I wanted to keep my g2
but then again, its hard to say because the Prius was involved in a frontal collision
yea, that's what I did
Only broke the bumper
Yea, I dealt almost no damage to the SUV I hit
I replaced it
but the Prius got fucked lol
Yea, I was borrowing my friend's Astro while the Prius was getting repaired
Had to because the RX-7's fuel pump died, quite conveniently the day after the accident
V8 suvs hold value too well
yea, its crazy
SUVs popularity skyrocketed in the 2010s
And early 2000s
I was thinking about getting a Ford Excursion, but they're like $12k and all have over 200k miles
its insane
yea, but still
holy fuck
yea, that's usually how it goes
They rebuilt it
Sold it
Got the 8v
Diesel
I got to do valve seals
Do i do it in house
Valve stem seals
by "in house" do you mean, " do it yourself"
Ya
The cams stay
So its just pulling the spring
4.6v3
Head
It has rockers
And its scohv
idk enough to tell you what you should do
I still don't know enough to know whether or not I will have to get a new engine for the Prius
but I guess I'll find out when I have the head gasket done
since I won't be doing that myself
because its an engine out job
just like the oil pan gasket on the RX-7, which irks me
And that's why I ended up buying new.
Don't have the patience to deal with any of this right now.
when I eventually retire the Prius, I will be replacing it with a brand new car. But that is likely to be 2-3 years away at this point
With the Axel out
it'll take so long because I intend to repair what is necessary in regards to potential engine damage from my fuck up
and because I want to buy at least two other vehicles before I will want to retire it
and one of those vehicles will definitely suck a lot of money because its going to be a swap project
the other one shouldn't take that much beyond catching up on maintenance, assuming I can get a nice one
Nice to see a car channel in here.
yes
this is a channel to celebrate perfectly mediocre cars
except of course, the ford excursion, which is anything but mediocre
Yeah the boys
Pog
Thoughts and opinions please!
RX8 vs MX5 convince me which way to go!
I've heard people have had very bad times with the RX8 Rotary
them being really unreliable
Ahhh, the plan is to use it for daily driving as well...
So, the thing with the RX-8 is that you have about a 25% chance of not having a bad time
Mainly with the earlier years
the later year RX-8s aren't as bad
but the Renesis (RX-8 engine) is still iffy
They can get expensive overtime to maintain though
especially if youre gonna be using it as a dialy
daily*
apex seals
As long as you got one in good condition, that's not a big deal
or if you rebuild it yourself and then maintain it properly
I don't know much about the RX8 other than it being a rotary. I'd be lookinh at a 2008 model
Mx5 would be a mark 2, 1.8
Getting any old running RX-8 and expecting to daily it and be all fine and dandy, you're gonna have a bad time. You have to be careful and deliberate, and you absolutely cannot, for any reason, fall behind on maintenance and repairs
@fathom socket The Miata will be far cheaper to maintain over time. As the RX8 rotary is a ticking time bomb.
^^ Exactly my fear as I wasn't too sure about reliability of those things
As you're only able to drive that many times before the apex seals give in.
Unless you have someone knowledgeable in rotary to help you out, or are very dedicated and willing to do whatever for the sake of rotary; then getting an RX-8 is not worth your time.
If you don't want a car thats gonna be sidelined for maybe a week, 2 weeks, even more depending on the issue
go with the mx5
You can probably get a decent NC for a reasonable price now.
Just as a quick sidequestion, are there any benefits to having a rotary?
Rotaries are fun, and the nature of them makes it cool to have one; but typically you are better off leaving them as a project car
mx5's are good platforms to do some mods to as well
Rotaries are just really smooth engines.
obviously not insane if its a daily
@fathom socket in what way? There are benefits, but it depends on the purpose of the vehicle
or I guess I should say "how you intend to use it"
Honestly, if you ask me. The rotary has more downsides, than it has upsides.
I'm the rotary shill here
@civic girder
Just in general, obviously its a daily driver (12 miles daily) but the plan is also for a little pocket rocket I can have some fun with
This reminds me of one of the one takes.Farah did.
mx5's are great pocket rockets
it might not be going fast, but it'll feel like you are
I've some plans of changes I'd be making to the x5, but not a clue about the rx8
I've hold of an old supercharger that would be slapped in, new seats, just the normal drill
As a daily driver, rotaries are not worth your time. Pocket rocket? Rotaries can fulfill that roll, but the RX-8 specifically will not.
Rotaries inherently have a shorter lifespan than a piston engine, and have worse fuel economy. The RX-8 is not fast because it weighs a lot and the bodystyle/suspension does not really lend itself to fun and fast
Do note that rotaries ARE RELIABLE within their lifespan
I'd go ham in a ND.2 RF.
Check out some RX-8โs in our gallery and add your ride! https://bit.ly/2EB4QhW
Ah, the good ol rotary. The Mazda RX-8 offers a unique platform to enthusiasts that comes with some cool benefits, but at what cost? Today Alex talks about the good, the bad, and the ugly with the ...
tells you the positives
and the many negatives
RX-8s are a shitty platform for modding
rx8's are very limited unless you have deep pockets
Yea, you have to spend a lot for minimal gain
Thats what I was thinking, the mind went blank when planning what I would do to each car ^
with an mx5
Many RX-8's are being sold cheap, because they need a good amount of work.
you'll have a lot more variety with what you can do
and theirs tons of forums on MX5's on modding, and tons of support
there's rotary/RX-8 forums too
Flying Miata.
theirs probably someone in this discord who has an mx5
To be honest, the current car is only 24 so the mileage I'm not all to worried about
like, you're really trying to hate on rotaries hard lmao @frank tundra
Im not, the rx8 is just a shit car to buy for a reliable fun daily
It is 100%
I know people that have RX-8s through a rotary discord I'm in
there's a reason the guy I know irl is trying to find a new daily
He hates the mpg of his RX-8
he likes the car, but hates daily driving it ๐
I did actually look at an old RX7 that I was interested in the other day, decided it might end up being much more work than I wanted to do though
xD
getting an FB or FC would be much better
FB or FC?
but will likely require a lot of work and would be better as a project car
FB is first gen RX-7, FC is second gen RX-7
big yikes to buying already modded cars
The goal is something cheap and fun for the time being, next year is caterham year ๐
I wouldn't want to have to fix some rednecks yeehaw jank "upgrades"
Their can be bad and good to buying already modified cars
i've really only dealt with the good so i cant comment on the bad
I wouldn't want to have to fix some rednecks yeehaw jank "upgrades"
^This, preferably lady owner, <70k miles, younger than 20years, non rusty sills if possible
if the mods were done by a reputable shop and have a receipt to prove it, then sure
but if its all hill billy jank, then hard pass
I'm more than happy to be the hill billy xD
I'm a firm believer in doing your own mods to a stock car instead of having to reverse engineer some dude's cousin's mods
But yes, a stock one will be a lot more fun
Flyin' Miata has been the go-to name for V8 conversions for all generations of the Mazda MX5 Miata. Now, they've shown up with their newest build, a brand new 'ND' Miata with a 520 HP 6.2L LS engine, complete driveline upgrades to back it up, full suspension, bigger wheels, be...
start modding and you can start affecting how nice it is as a daily
i can say i regret buying my termi already whipple'd, cause it would;ve been a lot more fun to do it myself
bigger wheels and wider tires will hurt fuel economy and might make the speedo inaccurate, etc
520 hp is like a x3 increase from a stock ND Miata.
start touching the engine and your reliability goes out the window
even then, it can be pick your poison
stuff like exhaust and brakes are unlikely to affect much, but much beyond that is gonna start to hurt
If I were you, I'd just get a stock ass Miata, leave it painfully stock, and just do whatever you want to the Caterham instead
I will still be keeping the current car so reliability isn't a necessity, just a preference for it to not break down more than twice annually
Tires, pads and fluids are some of the first things you can chance without much impact.
then why even get another car if you're keeping the one you have now?
seems like an oversight to me
1 word, peugeot
why spend money on a car now and modding it now when you could save it all for the Caterham you want so badly?
Whatever you do to any of your cars.
Make sure that the suspension can still do what it's supposed to do.
^
that's why I still haven't replaced my suspension bushings
I'm doing as much research as I can on what to do so I can make the car remain as similar to how it is now as possible
I need to replace my rear springs on my car.
I mean if you can afford to do some mods to the miata, and still buy what you wanna buy in the future, thats all up to you whether you want to do it or not
Might just do OEM springs, and replace the shocks while I'm at it.
i just wouldn't go overkil
but i am not one to speak on that so thats about all i can say
I like having suspension travel on my E46.
The caterham is paid for, its just stuck in a bank account for another 9ish months ๐ฆ
The peugeout currently will be staying stock, most likely SORN until its ever needed (Only a 1.4 (90bhp)) The caterham is a project and will be base stock. Summer dream car for country lanes. The mx5 will just be a speedy ride with enough acceleration to put a grin on my face
And the occasional spin of the tires of course
90 hp is enough to go flat out EVERYWHERE
you can't bang gears and go flat out in a 700hp LS swapped anything
I honestly do the same with my 320i.
- A few engine issues
if 90hp isn't enough, you're doing something wrong
my daily has like 70 wheel hp
its a 0-60 16 second car ๐ฎ
that's not even that bad
Hell, something like a Porsche will reach not-legal speeds once you're at the top of 2nd gear.
I can beat that 0-60 time with my truck. Though, I haven't timed my new one.
Yea, I can hit the top of 3rd in the RX-7 and still not break the limit on the highway. Top of 2nd is typically a bit above the limit around town
I know that the old one did 0-70 kmh in 40 seconds.
But that was when it was 28,000 kg. So fully loaded.
Thats not the only reason
