It needs one kinda major thing

Valve stem seals

I can do it in vehicle

And heads in

And cam in

So i just need seals

And valve cover gaskets

#

Coils and plugs

#

And 3 days

#

The fact the 4.6 has rockers

Saves my rear

#

I dont have to touch the cam

stoic ledge

#

I just need to get some time

#

And the parts

#

So its 120 for the gaskets and seals

#

200 for coils

#

And 100 for plugs

#

So a 420$ job

#

And 2 cases of beer

With the SpaceX package, your Tesla Roadster will most likely be louder than every motorcycle around when it accelerates. U know those stabilization Thrusters on the falcon rockets?

Anyway, I'm very exited for when the Cybertruck Hits the market and I can get one myself in Germany. Not a downsized or modified one. Just the pickup as intended. ๐Ÿ‘

Otherwise RIP Nissan lol

RIP any brand.

Only Ferrari can pretend sales figures don't matter.... then again they're also planning an SUV soon, so their views on market trends aren't to be trusted.

@dense shard popular appeal just attracts more haters to a car

#

dual edged sword

dense shard
#

People who hate popular things are in a vast minority.

#

And frankly they aren't a relevant market to aim for. Likely hipsters and "car guys" who only buy used.

devout atlas
#

shit

#

you hit way too close to home

#

while talking about only buying used

dense shard
#

It's less a catch 22 and more of a cognitive dissonance amongst car fans.

#

"Why don't automakers make more manual cars."

#

or

#

"Why don't automakers sell stripper models with only the most basic of features."

#

Well... the average consumer wants an automatic with plenty of features... and an automaker isn't gonna cater to the second hand market.

#

"we want this kinda car" they say
"okay, here you go" says the automaker
"oh I never buy used, that's stupid" they say

indigo coral
#

@civic spoke G70! ๐Ÿ˜‚ That can be had rwd, the Stinger, uhh the GS F but I really doubt you'd want that, plus the typical bmw/Audi/Mercedes

fathom socket
#

Wait they took your car :( ?

civic girder
#

I don't speed or drive distracted. I know full well the consequences of both.

#

both can cause a legal nightmare and both can result in your death, the death of others, and/or the loss of your vehicle.

#

Legal nightmares are a pita and a waste of time

#

Rather than coughing up money and spending time in the courtroom, I could be spending that money on something worthwhile and spending that time doing something fun

frank tundra
#

I know the consequences, I wouldn't do it if I was putting anyone in danger, again 4 lane highway fully open for a good 5kms

#

I do the crime, I pay the fines for the crime

#

The cops themselves weren't even that aggressive towards me, they were laughing, asking us to rev up our cars before they got towed away

#

Sure the speeds we're going were fast, but I don't see anyone questioning its justa6 when he goes 190mph on a highway with cars on it LUL

#

Sometimes having fun can be done safely, we just got the consequences of having said fun

#

Not like I'm trying to say im in the right, I know exactly what I did wrong, I didnt fight with the cops about it, it was illegal and I'll deal with it lol

#

Do you have an opinion on the Avalon TRD?

dense shard
#

Lukewarm fun for the practical mid life crisis.

#

Honestly both the Camry and Avalon TRDs lack a limited slip differential.

#

But suspension, wheels, tires, and a few other bits to spice it up? I'd say cool beans.

#

Still... at this point in time I might get the hybrid Avalon for the extra quiet/refinement.

flint sable
#

Itโ€™s a neat take on them

dense shard
#

The limited slip is something I heard from a reviewer.

#

The first bit is my take.

#

It's amazing how feature heavy modern cars are.

#

20 years ago you were lucky to get dual airbags and ABS.

Now my car sees lanes, speed limit signs, and has radar cruise. That's on top of all the other stuff. It's great. Especially back up cameras.

220hp from a V6 is embarassing

civic girder

BMW
good engine
hmmm, I don't think those belong in the same sentence

indigo coral
#

Alfa gets 500+ from slightly less displacement

tender finch
#

@civic girder their i6s are pretty solid mechanically

civic girder
#

yea, I will give them that

tender finch
#

we haven't had a single mechanical issue

stoic ledge
#

220/6 = 36.7*4 = 146.8 > 83hp I have

tender finch
#

but god damn so many electrical ones

civic girder
#

but the rest makes the engine kinda shit

tender finch
#

right now there is a fucked radiator something sensor, broken trunk sensor so it always thinks its open, the entire infotainment thing is broken (bad caps likely) and that is just what i can immediately think of

indigo coral
#

If a 2 liter 4 cyl can make 400+ hp, a V6 should do better than 220 lol

tender finch
#

what takes the cake is one time when some little led on the shifter went bad which was causing the battery to drain and car not to start among other problems, and it cost six fucking hundred dollars in labour and like ten cents in parts

#

bmw moment ๐Ÿ‘

civic girder
#

There's no need for a grandpa cruiser SUV to make more than 220hp tho

indigo coral
#

imo they should have made it a baby GX instead

#

LS platform

civic girder
#

can it reach 75mph and cruise their comfortably?
if yes, then there's no problems

stoic ledge
#

If a 2 liter 4 cyl can make 400+ hp, a V6 should do better than 220 lol
I don't think a N/A 4 cyl can do that

indigo coral
#

More cayenne-ish

#

Well no it chat

#

Can't

#

It probably could before it got old tho

civic girder
#

how many miles?

indigo coral
#

I mean I can go 75 no problem but it's happier at like 65

#

137k. Quite high.

civic girder
#

that's just getting broken in for a Toyota

tender finch
#

yes

civic girder
#

and if you can go 75 no problem, then the setup is fine lmao

tender finch
#

our s70 is at 237k miles

#

also just broken in ๐Ÿ˜Ž

#

it aint a redblock volvo but still pretty damn reliable

indigo coral
#

Well it feels a bit rickety at 80+ lol

#

prob old suspension components and stuff

civic girder
#

as does every Toyota

#

nah, that's just a Toyota thing

indigo coral
#

My mom's car is like, fine at 85

civic girder
#

it would be more stable with fresh bushings tho

indigo coral
#

which surprised me

civic girder
#

the RX-7 is fine at 93mph

#

but with the leaky exhaust, it feels quite sketch with how much the car shakes and vibrates

#

probably shot motor mounts and suspension bushings too

indigo coral
#

I wonder how much the explorer/sho could do with out a speed lkmiter

civic girder
#

probably like 170

indigo coral
#

yikes I doubt that

#

Maybe 140

the RX-8s story is kinda hilarious

stoic ledge

Although modern Mazda's I'd trust

The RX-8 had some weird issues

the early ones would suffer from an inability to start

stoic ledge
#

yes

fathom socket
#

Now that I know that the Media lied about that the Cybertruck wouldn't get an authorization in Germany, I can Rest in Peace now. ๐Ÿ˜‰

stoic ledge
#

oof

fathom socket
#

It does. Just not as passenger vehicle. But as duty vehicle for either personell or cargo transportation with offroad-ability.
(N1G/M1G)

stoic ledge
#

Even that x doubt without modifications

fathom socket
#

Regulations for duty vehicles are much less restrictive. You can have a sharp front, you also don't need a bumping area. Just the thing about cameras replacing mirrors would require a special classification, as there are in fact vehicles without mirrors which are allowed to drive on roads

stoic ledge
#

Well not many people have such a license anyway, so np

fathom socket
#

We will see. I assume the Cybertruck to weight empty below 3 Tons, therefore u only need a normal driving license for it.

stoic ledge
#

I think it'll be over 3 tonnes

#

Model X is already what, 2.6 ton?

#

This thing is bigger, bigger batteries...

fathom socket
#

Otherwise, I will make a license for trucks up to 7.5t. Because I really want it ๐Ÿ˜…
And paint it in olive

stoic ledge
#

Oof

#

Well the thing is, if it's ยฑ 3 tons, you can only put ยฑ 500kg of stuff in it (including passengers), which is nonsense for a pick-up

fathom socket
#

Yeah. Usually I have around 3-5 guys.. Each between 90-110kg. Maybe an additional 20kg per passenger and eventually the Cyberquad on the bed.

stoic ledge
#

Well that'd be way over the 3500kg limit on a regular license

fathom socket
#

The CT is more interesting for me as offroad vehicle and ATV carrier than it is as workhorse to transport material

I only can hope Elon Musk does Listen to the community and may also offer a larger Version with more interior space without the bed.

RX8 vs MX5 convince me which way to go!

frank tundra
#

I've heard people have had very bad times with the RX8 Rotary

#

them being really unreliable

fathom socket
#

Ahhh, the plan is to use it for daily driving as well...

civic girder
#

So, the thing with the RX-8 is that you have about a 25% chance of not having a bad time

#

Mainly with the earlier years

#

the later year RX-8s aren't as bad

#

but the Renesis (RX-8 engine) is still iffy

frank tundra
#

They can get expensive overtime to maintain though

#

especially if youre gonna be using it as a dialy

#

daily*

#

apex seals

civic girder
#

As long as you got one in good condition, that's not a big deal

#

or if you rebuild it yourself and then maintain it properly

fathom socket
#

I don't know much about the RX8 other than it being a rotary. I'd be lookinh at a 2008 model

#

Mx5 would be a mark 2, 1.8

tight cypress
civic girder
#

Getting any old running RX-8 and expecting to daily it and be all fine and dandy, you're gonna have a bad time. You have to be careful and deliberate, and you absolutely cannot, for any reason, fall behind on maintenance and repairs

frank tundra
#

It's probably not worth the hassle

#

if you haven't dealt with a rotary before

civic spoke
#

@fathom socket The Miata will be far cheaper to maintain over time. As the RX8 rotary is a ticking time bomb.

fathom socket
#

^^ Exactly my fear as I wasn't too sure about reliability of those things

civic spoke
#

As you're only able to drive that many times before the apex seals give in.

civic girder
#

Unless you have someone knowledgeable in rotary to help you out, or are very dedicated and willing to do whatever for the sake of rotary; then getting an RX-8 is not worth your time.

frank tundra
#

If you don't want a car thats gonna be sidelined for maybe a week, 2 weeks, even more depending on the issue

#

go with the mx5

civic spoke
#

You can probably get a decent NC for a reasonable price now.

fathom socket
#

Just as a quick sidequestion, are there any benefits to having a rotary?

civic girder
#

Rotaries are fun, and the nature of them makes it cool to have one; but typically you are better off leaving them as a project car

frank tundra
#

mx5's are good platforms to do some mods to as well

civic spoke
#

Rotaries are just really smooth engines.

frank tundra
#

obviously not insane if its a daily

civic girder
#

@fathom socket in what way? There are benefits, but it depends on the purpose of the vehicle

#

or I guess I should say "how you intend to use it"

civic spoke
#

Honestly, if you ask me. The rotary has more downsides, than it has upsides.

civic girder
#

I'm the rotary shill here

fathom socket
#

@civic girder
Just in general, obviously its a daily driver (12 miles daily) but the plan is also for a little pocket rocket I can have some fun with

civic spoke
#

This reminds me of one of the one takes.Farah did.

frank tundra
#

mx5's are great pocket rockets

#

it might not be going fast, but it'll feel like you are

fathom socket
#

I've some plans of changes I'd be making to the x5, but not a clue about the rx8

#

I've hold of an old supercharger that would be slapped in, new seats, just the normal drill

civic girder
#

As a daily driver, rotaries are not worth your time. Pocket rocket? Rotaries can fulfill that roll, but the RX-8 specifically will not.
Rotaries inherently have a shorter lifespan than a piston engine, and have worse fuel economy. The RX-8 is not fast because it weighs a lot and the bodystyle/suspension does not really lend itself to fun and fast

#

Do note that rotaries ARE RELIABLE within their lifespan

civic spoke
#

I'd go ham in a ND.2 RF.

frank tundra
#

#

and the many negatives

civic girder
#

RX-8s are a shitty platform for modding

frank tundra

rx8's are very limited unless you have deep pockets

I'd just get a stock one and leave it stock

frank tundra

i can say i regret buying my termi already whipple'd, cause it would;ve been a lot more fun to do it myself

bigger wheels and wider tires will hurt fuel economy and might make the speedo inaccurate, etc

frank tundra
#

If you're buying a caterham though, probably wanna keep it stock

#

the mx5 at least

civic girder

stuff like exhaust and brakes are unlikely to affect much, but much beyond that is gonna start to hurt

#

If I were you, I'd just get a stock ass Miata, leave it painfully stock, and just do whatever you want to the Caterham instead

I will still be keeping the current car so reliability isn't a necessity, just a preference for it to not break down more than twice annually

civic spoke

Tires, pads and fluids are some of the first things you can chance without much impact.

civic girder
#

then why even get another car if you're keeping the one you have now?

#

seems like an oversight to me

1 word, peugeot

frank tundra
#

well i mean

#

more car = more fun

civic girder
#

why spend money on a car now and modding it now when you could save it all for the Caterham you want so badly?

civic spoke
#

Whatever you do to any of your cars.

#

Make sure that the suspension can still do what it's supposed to do.

civic girder
#

^

#

that's why I still haven't replaced my suspension bushings

#

I'm doing as much research as I can on what to do so I can make the car remain as similar to how it is now as possible

civic spoke
#

I need to replace my rear springs on my car.

frank tundra
#

I mean if you can afford to do some mods to the miata, and still buy what you wanna buy in the future, thats all up to you whether you want to do it or not

civic spoke
#

Might just do OEM springs, and replace the shocks while I'm at it.

frank tundra
#

i just wouldn't go overkil

#

but i am not one to speak on that so thats about all i can say LUL

civic spoke
#

I like having suspension travel on my E46.

The caterham is paid for, its just stuck in a bank account for another 9ish months ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

The peugeout currently will be staying stock, most likely SORN until its ever needed (Only a 1.4 (90bhp)) The caterham is a project and will be base stock. Summer dream car for country lanes. The mx5 will just be a speedy ride with enough acceleration to put a grin on my face

#

And the occasional spin of the tires of course

frank tundra
#

if you have the financial ability

#

to do what you want to the mx5

#

go for it

civic spoke
#

90 hp is enough to go flat out EVERYWHERE

civic girder
#

^

#

that's why I love my RX-7 so much

fathom socket
#

I have to go flat out everywhere xD

#

The things just not enough

civic girder
#

you can't bang gears and go flat out in a 700hp LS swapped anything

civic spoke
#

I honestly do the same with my 320i.

fathom socket
#
  • A few engine issues
civic girder
#

if 90hp isn't enough, you're doing something wrong

frank tundra
#

i wish i could bang gears in my hellcat

#

auto trans big bad

civic girder
#

my daily has like 70 wheel hp

fathom socket
#

its a 0-60 16 second car ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

civic girder
#

that's not even that bad

civic spoke
#

Hell, something like a Porsche will reach not-legal speeds once you're at the top of 2nd gear.

#

I can beat that 0-60 time with my truck. Though, I haven't timed my new one.

civic girder
#

Yea, I can hit the top of 3rd in the RX-7 and still not break the limit on the highway. Top of 2nd is typically a bit above the limit around town

civic spoke
#

I know that the old one did 0-70 kmh in 40 seconds.

frank tundra
#

Oliver is 90hp in a sense not enough

#

with having fun

civic spoke
#

But that was when it was 28,000 kg. So fully loaded.

fathom socket
#

Thats not the only reason

civic girder
#

90hp is plenty for daily driving

#

I see no reason to replace it with an MX-5 for a daily, especially if you aren't getting rid of that car
