Vapor lock mint
rotaries are proven to be more reliable with carb lmao
my car has never flooded
the only times I've had issues starting have been oil related or spark related
Wait I'm wrong. My car is a year old. Manufactured: 6/19
what day tho
The RX-7 was built on December 13th, 1982
prev owner said he bought it in 82 as well, so it shipped from Japan pretty quick
let me just put this here
want
yea, the facelift improved it a lot
but tbh, I don't even mind the pre-facelift
person
Ah no mine was made 24-11-2011
First registered at 17-12-2011
can someone be okay with this?
So 24 days old
I should have taken pics of the old title for the RX-7
it was the original title too
I can't find the day my car was produced.
p sure the DMV chucked it in the bin after printing my new one lmao
Sad
I just registered it at a post office in a supermarket
Lol
And I can get a list with all the details on the manufacturers website (+ other websites with the VIN)
Yeah it gives me month, but no day.
oof
Uhm not sure, I know you can have tools for that for BMWs, VWs etc
Window sticker isn't a thing in Europe

It's legally mandated in the US.
Yeah I know
ayy, Toyota does do it
Thonk apparently it got fitted with wider tires than there are on there now (195 width)
Port would typically mean that when the car was taken off the boat when arriving in the US from Japan
Also: is the trim really called STD? 👀
but considering we have a Toyota dealer in Ohio, probs dealer
STD stands for Standard
Yeah, only month and year.
Sad
It's the same I think... it is for my car.
dang, my car was made in my birth month then
It's written on the door sill if you want to double check.
but my dad bought it in October
Mine has the rare WITH OPEL SPECIAL VEHICLE option, which basically non has
My car basically rolled off the truck, and into my hands.
Built in June, few weeks in shipping, few more weeks in transit, a few days on the lot, and boom... mine.
Standard equipment probably
I drove it from zero miles basically.
Yeah tbh 3rd party websites often give more details
Idk if there are some for Toybota's
Official Opel list has like 9 items on it, 3rd party 66 lol
Oof rip
:/
CHASSIS HEAVY DUTY
Ow yeah!
Mood
I love how dealers still try to sell you on disc brakes like they're a special feature.
"This car's best feature is 4 wheels worth of disc brakes with ABS."
I mean
ffs... ABS is legally mandated. That's NOT a selling point.
the Prius has rear drums
It's expected.
rear disc brakes aren't mandatory afaik
🤔
I had to replace the brake shoes once.
It was the single worst experience in car maintenance ever.
Apparently my RX-7 stops in a shorter distance with rear drums compared to the rear disc ones
I was using my feet to hold parts in place, and I still needed help to hold other bits in place.
Imagine have 4 disc
BRAKE SYSTEM,DISC-FRONT/DRUM-REAR,WITH ABS
there's really no difference on stopping power between drums and discs
I get what you mean, but tbh its not that bad
It was that bad for me. lol
Maybe if I did it more often I wouldn't be in such dire straits.
the biggest problem when I did the RX-7's drums was that me and my buddy didn't have needlenose pliers at the time
so he sent me on a mission in his NB Miata to buy needlenose pliers
and then it went smoothly
still a pain cause the brand new springs wouldn't stretch very well
reusing springs would have been easier, but ya know
pft who needs suspension
I like this game
#public-chat maybe
It's cars in it :p
It is a good game
riiiiight
"only"
I mean if you want one of the dopest wagons around, personally I’d probably get a used GT3 for that but it’s just me
918? looks more like a tundra with charger parts stuck to it. jk
AMG E63 Wagon... only 127k
@dense shard
Not bad, here it starts at just €176.638 (198k USD)
turbo: yay
AWD: awww yiss
automatic only: oof
automagic goat
yeah, it's the only engine they have that's worth putting in right now.
Mazda's US lineup for sedans is 2.5, 2.5T
Diesel in the CX-5, and 2.0L in the Miata, and CX-3 I think...
Curious to see how much that will cost in 🇳🇱
Can't even have the 2.5T in the Mazda 6 here
I mean... the automatic AWD hatchback in the US starts at 25k... but that's the base model. Chances are the turbo will only come on the top nacho spec.
That starts at 29k USD... are you willing to pay 32k for a Mazda 3?
That's Golf GTI money.
Probably, yes
I wouldn't. It's a compact car. No way in hell is it worth more than 30k.
You can get the 2.0T Accord for that money.
Picked up the new truck last Friday.
What did you get?
Put 1,000 miles on her in the last three days.
And you got?
I wouldn't. It's a compact car. No way in hell is it worth more than 30k.
I've checked: base Mazda 3 is €28k here (so +- 30k USD). So yeah, it's worth 30k to me
We don't have Genesis here in Swedenland. :c
bc i can't drive
Just joink the wheel from her.
lol
"I'm the driver now"
I'm finally getting the (expensive) parts to fix my car
Unrelated to cars. But I got myself a decent watch earlier in the week.
Nice
Metal Casio G-Shock. Used, but barely worn.
Casio
fancy
well the "genesis" dealer only had 4 cars
lol
it was mostly a hyundai + VW dealer
and a few genesis
3 G70s, one G80
Thing is MK... in the US the Corolla and Civic start at 20k.
They don't really go past 25k.
The Arteon looks good tho, they had a few of them
You get into GTI and WRX territory at 30k.
it's an unreliable piece of shit but it looks nice at least
VW build quality tends to be pretty great I understand.
I'd love a G70.
I want a G70 too
But it's still a pretty big-ish car.
wat
Corolla starts at €25k, as 1.2 Turbo with hub caps etc
its tiny
Long term outlook is poor, but so is the WRX from what I've heard.
the G70 is small af, that's my biggest reservation about it
Isn't it a bit larger than the 3 series?
the small trunk and back seat
It's comparable to a 3er iirc
The G70 isn't a small car by any definition.
I guess.
It's not a land yacht, but hardly small.
i mean you cna barely fit children in the back seat
its for all intents and purposes a 2 seater
How bit are kids in the PNW?
That's what the trunk is for, no?
And if the G70 has smaller back seats than the Corolla HB... it's a pretty poorly packaged car.
I'm the elitist type who would go with the small engine.
Manual?
Just so that I could get the manual option.
lol, probably same
Manual
I'd get the 3.3T H-Trac Sport trim
270 is a bunch, tbh
Whip it in a NA Miata. Wreck it, get another.
I'd get the V6 myself
Adriatic Blue, 3.3T, top tier interior with gray piping, all wheel drive
Yeah
I like the 5er
4er not so m,uch
@indigo coral kinda looks like Merc from that angle lol
Doesn't look as bad as I thought it would.
They can't even go for the floating plate aesthetic Toyota can. It's just a nose ring on a pig or cow.
Similar thoughts as Chris Harris for me.
i still think it looks nice @stoic ledge
5 series facelift looks okay... it's still a BMW.
The G70? yes it does
but im the only one that does,a ll the car reviewers talked about how ugly it was
and how boring it was
and how bad the interior was
doug demuro bitched about that car like crzy
Interior looks nice imo.
blah blah blah slower than a ferrari blah blah blah looks like a hyundai
More Toyota than Mercedes, but that's okay.
oh and he said it has a bad interior
he talked about how it's worse than the stinger
the material quality is actually quite good
I'd have to sit in it to believe it.
i sat in one at an auto show here
Every brand has a car faster than a 40 year old Ferrari.
the interior is much nicer than a STinger
My Corsa can beat that
Oh, reminds me of the BMW 8 series one take. I think it was.
but yeah car reviewers hated the G70
a few said it drove well
and idk what's not to like
solid interior, lots of power and decently dynamic
and should be quite reliable

Own a 1972 Nova SS daily driver
Those are cool
I would have to completely redo the brakes on a car like that.
If I ever wanted to daily it.
Just use two feet
I think Throttle House was pretty good on the G70.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5dgVx9F0WI Savage Geese is pretty kind to it.

Still waiting for all the review channels to shit on the MX-30 and then still go buy one like the fan boy I am
soon. I think production has started.

I might have a new daily next fall/winter then
Assuming they can be optioned with rotaries
Uknown... and doubtful they'll even sell it in the US.
Just import one
Since my car's motif is black and grey anyway, I felt that this was a good decision
She's already been given an extra hundred hrsprs from an engine tune...
...and one of these per-side adds an additional 5
nice!
Joking aside. It's amusing content.
Uknown... and doubtful they'll even sell it in the US.
@dense shard 😠 I want my smol rotary
pretty fuckin wild
It's fun.
pretty ugly doe
I don't think it's meant to be pretty.
Me neither LOL
Lego RX-7 when
Probably when/if they release a new RX-7.
iTs A sPeCiAl CaR tHo
So is my Corolla.
I am part of the 1%... the 1% that bought a new manual car in 2019.
I'll be amazed if 2020 is better for manuals.
If Mazda makes another rotary sports car, it better come in manual or I'm unsubscribing from Mazda fan club
I don't want a dsg or sequential either
Mazda is Mazda. I imagine they will have a manual. I can't see it them not doing it.
Then again... they discontinued the manual in the Mazda 6 and Mazda 3 sedan in the US.
And the manual only comes on the top trim.
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Best RCR Quote, Mitsubishi, The Chrysler of Japan

A lot of early to mid 10s Nissans and Fords are things you want to avoid.
late 00s GM crossovers... avoid.
And early 00s Hondas, avoid.
The smallest Chevys are miserable shit buckets.
Aveos tended to grenade their engines.
The Spark doesn't seem any better.
Not sure why it exists tbh.
Spark > Sonic > Cruze
Hello whats the best price for me to get a Hyundai Genesis 2011 transmission mount ?
Part doesn't bother me but the people that work on it yes lol
I mean... I don't think there's much of a price difference. I imagine you can order one from advance auto... or from the dealer.
The dealer will charge you 320 for everything lol
Well the car drives fine then years later when I put into first gear I can feel the transmission vibrations alot then a few years back. I was like welp that ain't going to fix itself
I see them online for ± 100 USD, idk how much it costs to install them
The Spark doesn't seem any better.
Not sure why it exists tbh.
Idk there was a quite high demand for small cars around 2010s
And "ours" was very reliable up untill this point
Aveos tended to grenade their engines.
What eniges are in the US Sonic (Aveo). Because the European versions used mostly Opel engines, which are fine
I don't have a actual picture of MY own navigator, but here it is, 2003 Lincoln Navigator, nicknamed "Luther"
Yay for -7 fuel economy!

Thats flames tho
uh oh
@dense shard
https://drivetribe.com/p/the-268-hp-toyota-corolla-hot-hatch-ceJJvBRURZ-qHVUNBdeKcg
268hp manual Corolla confirmed to the US
(Idk if you've linked/seen it yet)
I've seen other links, yes. And this is a good confirmation.
It would have been crazy to see anything else tbh. This is kind of a bootleg product imo. Yaris drive/powertrain in a Corolla. It's basically a straight up engine swap.
Not a bad thing mind you. It's just showing that Toyota's GR Corolla project is hedging all bets.
They have a very small budget to make this happen.
Yeah well they want to make the GR name big, that's one way of doing it
The previous Yaris GRMN was also bonkers apparently
So I've heard.
I would have been okay with a 2.5L spicy Corolla tbh.
40 more horsepower, manual. Nice oomph on a budget. This is gonna go well into GTI territory.
Still... AWD actual hot hatch is great.
gotta love that 2003 mini cooper
window flexes when i go motorway speeds and makes a wonderful screeching sound
oof
🤔
nope a coupe if anything

I mean it's either a convertible or just the hatchback.
just the hatchback
wow. That doesn't sound great tbh.
its not actually that bad it only really does it into the wind i think
because of lockdown i havent had too much of a chance to see when it happens
Still not normal
its because the windows are frameless
Could just be old Cooper charms and quirks.
I've been in Mini's of that era.. they didn't do that
it might be a seal
Could be wind noise.
true minis are known to be rather characterful
BMW Mini's are known for being expensive, low quality, bad visibility and great handling

I think I understand now. It's not that the car is flexing or anything. It's just old seals letting in more wind noise.
can confirm the visibility isnt amazing
well its quite low down and im kinda tall so i cant see much in the way of the sky
i dont mind it really
yeah ive noticed that
It's like looking through a letterbox xD
i just gotta stay a bit further back or somethin
yeah preps me for a amg gts which has a similar problem

its quite easy to work on though and parts themselves arent much
i think mechanics just make you pay extra dolla because its a bmw
German car, English brand, Brazilian engine.
With a Peugeot engine
because theyre quite old theres plenty of forum posts for all the problems in the world
Brazilian?
the engine is kinda debatable
its used by chevorlet bmw and peugot
Wait Chevrolet?
i heard that at least
Apparently the diesel version was a Toyota engine. lol
better than a frenchie
Ah the first gen was with Chrysler apparently
The Mk I Mini One, Cooper and Cooper S used some version of the Brazilian-built Tritec engine, co-developed by the US-based Chrysler and BMW; the Mini One D used a Toyota 1ND-TV diesel engine.
ok so the engine was developed by chrysler and rover which is where bmw comes in
2ns gen is the Peugeot Prince engine
ye im 1st gen so i aint no god damn frenchie
hmmmm
better than a frenchie
The French diesels are actually quite good
Depends when the engine was designed.
Chrysler was owned, or owned Peugeot/Citroen at one point.
Did they?
shiidd
yeah
And I think at one point the company also owned Lamborghini around the same time.

ill just say Lamborghini then
i mainly got it because its insurance was wayy less than it should be for performance
damn engine was developed in 1998 i think
only 4 years off id say that counts
Mmmm
It's not like Lamborghini developed anything new under Chrysler.
There’s some confusing things about this car
Nobody is sure how many were made *the SMZ that is
The highest VIN is like 28
I imagine it's whoever came in to get the mods.
And whatever that number is... it's far lower today. lol
Chrysler Europe was bought by Peugeot apparently, which was basically Talbot lol
stillen?
only car i think chrysler sells in europe is a rebadged lancia which is itself a rebadged fiat 500
orite id just never heard of em
Lancia Ypsilon is sold as Crysler outside Italie/Europe iirc
Lancia Voyager is a 7-seater minivan, which depending on time and place could be a Dodge Caravan, a Chrysler Town & Country or a Volkswagen Routan. After Fiat took over Chrysler a decision was made to limit the presence of American brands in Europe, focusing on models with the...
Chrysler also made a Town and Country.
It was rebadged as a VW van in the US.
The Routan.
Yes
Lancia only sells the Ypsilon now, everything else is discontinued
a real shame
And as far as I know, only in Italy
Lancia's existence is a shame right now.
Yes
if anything they should have a lancia version of the 124
guess they already got abarth for that jeez fiat
Why? Even the 124 itself doesn't sell
Lancia isn't known for 2 door roadsters.
Fiat is.
Lancia doesn't even exist in the US.
all i know is that lancia has rally heritage and fiat only has a tiny bit from like the 50s
And Fiat never followed up on that.
Oh yes
apparently they sold 60k cars last year
man. That was so bad.
Lancia? Not bad for only selling 1 ancient model in 1 country
my problem with them is they dont make any styling changes
They don't do anything lol
Sold in Italy only, built in Poland.
Well yeah built besides the Fiat 500
i wonder if theyll ever do anything with it
Same car underneath
It looks like a tiny PT Cruiser.
Maybe if Fiat brings out a new model, a new Lancia will come again
I don't think Fiat will.
they are supposed to be updating the 500 at some point soon
maybe theyll update it
Fiat survives by the graces of Jeep and RAM alone I think.
Maybe later if there's demand
fiat does alright with their pandas and the 500 in europe
and alfa romeos sell quite well
and ferarris give the brand a bit of rep
Panda is also ancient and barely sells, and even the 500 sales have dropped
god damn i had no idea
Fiat was dragging them down.

https://cdn.carbuzz.com/gallery-images/840x560/706000/700/706710.jpg someone swapped on a Ferrari bumper.
The Toyota laToyota.
The most stupid thing is... Fiat has no car at all in the most sold segment in Europe
B segment (Fiesta, Yaris, Polo, Corsa...)
So small hatchback
They had a Punto which actually sold quite well... Until they still sold it nearly unchanged for 12 years. So they stopped building it, but didn't replace it
yeah theyre kinda dead there
alfa romeo kinda got it covered i think
Not... Really
They had the MiTo, which was just a shrinked Punto
Idk if it's even sold tbh

yeah that segment remains untapped
guess if you like fiat 500 and u can afford a polo u get a nicer fiat 500
although noone in their right mind would do that
yeah
Which is perfectly fine tbh
its like the mini in that sense apart from that mini has bigger mini looking models
But many people look further than looks, and then there's no car which makes rational sense
they must know when theyre beaten
I basically never see the larger Mini cars lol
no point trying to compete with a polo
Idk the Punto was better than the Polo at it's time
It actually was
But not 12 years and 2 Polo generations later
I think there's every point in trying to compete with a Polo.
Toyota did it.
Finally updated the Yaris.
yeah its a really competitive market that
i think they'd rather save money and just get that 500 profit
Entire B-segment is basically new
Polo? 2017
Fiesta? 2017
208? 2020
Yaris? 2020
Corsa? 2020
Ibiza? 2017
I'll probably forget some
The 500 hasn't been updated in like... 15 years.
It's very competitive
apart from this year
when they are updating it
and it did get plenty of facelifts and such
I'll believe it when I see it.
First 500 was 2007 btw
And the facelifts were kinda subtle.
so 13 years

2020 version
Mostly 2
Entire car is new fyi
now u know that they cant change the overall style my man
They have in years past.
jeez u expect them to move away from their iconic retro look
its the 500 thats the whole point of the 500
^
yeah the whole car is different
Mini is still doing it
And only so far you can take the platform before it becomes untenable.
Design hasn't really changed since 2001
New Minis looks fat.
retro is pretty popular
Like a fat kid.
minis still look like a mini and can be identified by that styling despite being the size of a ford focus
The 2001 car was brilliant. The second generation kept the look.
The new one just looks kinda blobby.
new one does use that space though you get alot more space
👀
I think it looks awkward.
Question tho... why does the countryman exist.
or clubman, sorry.
Countryman is the crossover.
you forget that alot of people in the uk will buy anything that has mini look
its part of the national identity
Time to move on?
And where was a hype for such cars back when the 1st gen came out
hahaha no
Don't think there'll be a 3rd gen tho
I don't think I've actually ever seen a 2nd gen Clubman on the road
I've seen a couple.
BMW is going to build a new 2er Active Tourer btw
no british person that wants a mini is gonna not get a mini if they can afford it
theyll just get a bigger mini
hence why the styling is the same iconic style
Sold their identity to the Germans, then drove Honda away.
Is Nissan staying in the UK?
Whatever floats their boat I suppose.
Mini. Built in 🇳🇱 .

if they dont like it theyll yeet out
nissan made alot on the qashqai in its day
basically made a whole segment out of nothing
They're still a major player in the US market.
anyway car sales are down a bit in the uk overall
yeah i was tempted to say that haha
nice
Ah no, 50% is still the Qashcow
i'd have loved to have been the guy that created the qashcow in nissan
think of how much praise that guy gets
Nissan: good job, here's a big bonus
Guy: k, I'll retire cya
Nissan: chuckles I'm in danger
i wonder how much he got paid considering how much nissan made off of it
A pat on his shoulder probably
haha yeah

👀
Name longer than the Land Cruiser's, costs more than a Land Cruiser, gets worse fuel economy than anything that isn't a Land Cruiser, and can't tow shit.
Is this close enough?
No, you can get closer

Name longer than the Land Cruiser's, costs more than a Land Cruiser, gets worse fuel economy than anything that isn't a Land Cruiser, and can't tow shit.
Way faster than a Land Cruiser, drives better than a Land Cruiser, more luxurious than a Land Cruiser
I'd take the range rover
Same
Way faster than a Land Cruiser, drives better than a Land Cruiser, more luxurious than a Land Cruiser
@stoic ledge
I'm taking the land cruiser
I want to go to places other than the repair shop
ah yes
an arnage is better
as it's heavier than a land cruiser
longer, probably
and certainly much worse
in every reliability view-point
Except the Land Cruiser in 🇳🇱 is a 2.8 I4 diesel
@stoic ledge
this is a 2.8L diesel hilux
Looks pretty nice
Dunno if an occasionally working infotainment system is considered more luxurious.
Yeah, can't use the radio when it's on the lift.
Dunno if an occasionally working infotainment system is considered more luxurious.
It's not the same Infotainment system used in 2008 Range Rovers
Unlike Toyota, still using a 2008 headunit
Difference is the Toyota system doesn't crash, lag, or stop working.
Also if y'all only get the diesel. Chances are the fuel economy is better than the Jaguar. US only gets the V8.
@dense shard it won't be on the lift if the most excellent Sir Richard SmillerButton OBE decides to repair the car by means of his personal mechanic at his most excellent yorkshire country manor
I mean... it's being repaired regardless.
Also a modern man owning a 20 year old Bentley? Sounds like no money rather than old money.
All the cool rich people drive Continentals.
Sir Richard SmillerButton OBE has been the Earl of the most excellent hamlet of BAdTeethsVille Since the noughties
Difference is the Toyota system doesn't crash, lag, or stop working.
Except it lags all the time, even a smart lightbulb has more processing power
Also if y'all only get the diesel. Chances are the fuel economy is better than the Jaguar. US only gets the V8.
I'd be bad if the 177hp I4 2.8 diesel uses more fuel than the supercharged 5.0 gas V8 with 550hp lol
Hmmm you can also get the Velar with a 2.0 4-cyl diesel, the D180 (180hp).
Starts from: €80.240
Land Cruiser 177hp: € 107.619
€27k difference, that can pay for a lot of repair bills
Velar D180 is also 4 seconds faster to 62mph
the land cruiser costs more? lma0
In the US the prices are about the same.
Difference is the Toyota will retain far more value down the road.
And it will still run.
Vs. 50 for a Bentley.
full res by clicking "open original" 😄
-50 appeal?
I think that's the pre-buff bentley stat sheet
the post buff sheet clearly states +10 nobility
with +20 arsehole
Ye but the land cruiser is kinda ugly, not particularly fast, and not luxurious inside
Like a lot of people here, kinda ugly, not particularly fast
Lol
i take offense to the fast part
:/
due to the simple fact that I can fall from the top of a mountain at record speed
That looka... Odd
And the Clown shoe didn't?
I thought that one was quite cool xD
I liked the shoe. It was funky.
automotive pet peeve
Big grills with tiny actual air intake bit.
Like I don't mind the bumper support bits, but this is basically a massive grill, and a tiny bit that actually swallows air.
And that is why the BMW 4 series isn't that bad in reality. It looks like functional air intake.
Thanks for coming to my TEDtalk.
i dont mind the closed up side parts on the st
its these things that really grind my gears
Probably the closed vents besides the fog lights
At least it isn't Honda.
Tesla faces class action lawsuit over Model 3 paint issues in cold weather - Electrek
Fred Lambert stopped shilling. lol
Speaking of which. There may be a lawsuit against Toyota soon.
Apparently their white colors have issues.
at least they dont have a fake grill
I'll take a grill over magically disappearing paint.
Rumors are cars that are only a few months old are losing paint.
how many tho
Tesla has f**king awful QC
A friend of mine recently went to pick theirs up and it was missing the god damned screen
How that can make it out of the factory I've got no idea
2020: Fancy and expensive electric car has paint issues and missing parts from the factory
1980: Barebones and cheap rotary sports car was well built and made reliable
How do I have a 36 year old rotary that is more complete, functional, reliable, and in better condition than a brand new Tesla lmao
Within 3 months.
I know cars rust up north.
But to lose paint inside of one winter is insane.
Kei cars in Japan looked better after 15 years.... and those are built to an absolute price point.
2007 KIA Sorento
A knock off Lexus RX
ah yes, dual tone color schemes
It's the shape.
that'd be a premium feature in the phantom
Especially of the C pillar.
I quite like these
But the overall shape is very RX.
and the CRVs of this era
CRV was a bit more upright.
Sure, but the C pillar isn't obvious. The D pillar was something more.
The Lexus RX had a different aesthetic.
Yeah the Kia looks like an RX kinda lol.
oof
New ride
That radio sort of makes me want to get a more modern radio for my car.
But it would have to be something that fits well in the E46.
Prelude?
Looks like a 2000 Accord te me
@stoic ledge you'd be right
Looks like a manual. 👀
@civic spoke nope, automatic
ahh
Nice
BMW lawnmower
spotted a somewhat neglected audi quattro yesterday
missing its rear bumper an all 😢

R33... interesting.
I guess those are finally legal in the US
No instructions because it's just so simple.

@dense shard I just bought an focus ST
Focus ST's are soooo sick when done right
Not sure what wheels these are but i fkin love em
Hatchbacks are just so damn cool
That looks like it could be a race spec.
That just looks ugly af
Can't please everyone
dont like hatchbacks? i dont either
I only started liking/appreciating hatchbacks because of top gear haha
Wish the show was still around today
Its sad tbf
Hasnt been a grand tour episode in months
Not sure what wheels these are but i fkin love em
@misty jungle they are Fifteen52 Wheels 👍
The Focus RS looks so much better when the rims are downsized -1 inch.
Also Fifteen52 rims.
Is that... A mouth mask for a car?
til you can build rotaries for torque

rotary truck intensifies

Love me some hatchbacks.

EDM Accord, nice.
There have been diesel rotaries.
At least prototypes.
Here's one from Rolls Royce.
I don't think they ever went anywhere.
They could have just put a turbo or supercharger on it.
Oh wait... maybe I'm missing something with how compression works... still oof
penta rotor when
Probably never.

The top mini rotary is a weird sort of supercharger
or it might be the other way around
idk
I'm not an engineer

350hp apparently damn
so the big one basically acts as an air compressor to increase compression for the small boi
so its more efficient
and then the exhaust gasses keep the big boi spinning
well, it needed the big boi to add comp
diesels are compression ignited
rotaries naturally have shit compression
so you basically need a supercharger to give a shit load of air and artificially increase compression
like, take a Mazda rotary
Mazda claims they are 9.4:1
which is meh for an na engine
but due to Mazda's design, the spark plug holes drop the realistic compression to like 6:1
Also it seems the diesel design is direct injected.
Yea, the Rolls Royce rotary is a 2 rotor twin supercharged diesel
So I imagine the fuel injection bit has some compression loss.
its not a 4 rotor by any stretch of the imagination
So I imagine the fuel injection bit has some compression loss.
@dense shard yep
the only way to negate compression loss at spark plugs and/or fuel injectors is to have the gap be narrower than the width of the apex seal
so in a gas rotary, you'd need laser ignition
or, put the plug on the rotor itself.
and for fuel injection, don't go direct and use port instead
you couldn't put the plug on the rotor, realistically
No practical way to do it.
it would require complete engine disassembly to replace them
You'd need laser ignition to negate compression loss
it'd be the only thing that could work with a gap narrow enough to be thinner than an apex seal
but could also improve performance with stronger spark, in theory
wait wait... bad idea.
as well as potentially increase efficiency with tighter timing, in theory
A movable sparkplug.
what
Imagine a little valve type affair that only opens after the seal passes over it.
It pops up, plug goes boom, and it goes back down.
Finally. You can put cams in a rotary.
that sounds horrible
lol
by 50k miles it would fail and the motor would destroy itself
laser ignition or just run with current design is the best idea
That's 20k more than a normal turbo RX-7! brilliant!
these flaps would have to keep up with 8-10k rpm
You could do it easily enough with the flaps tbh.
and they'd be opening and closing 3 times per rotation
It's just extra weight and complexity... at what cost.
it would break quickly
Timing could be done with a desmoderic system. Or however it's spelled.
Basically valve gearing instead of springs.
Also, with my limited understanding of physics, it would probably do nothing to help the compression issue
all the flaps would do is solve compression leakage. Which would help emissions
but would not allow for more power
Well considering that emissions are huge in this day and age. A start.
I'm being silly right now, but it's still fun to think about it.
I still think laser ignition and port fuel injection is the best way
or just leave it as is and and optimize the design and implementation as much as physically possible
I don't see laser ignition ever becoming a thing.
Sounds like any laser projector lens or whatever would immediately get fouled.
Or are you talking about something else
even if you don't use laser, anything that could spark through a hole narrower than an apex seal would be adequate
this is what I'm talking about
holy shit
30% reduction in emissions using a lean mix
Compression loss won't be an issue.
" For the laser energy to reach within the cylinder, each was fitted with a sapphire window attached with special epoxy adhesive."
Even better
Basically you could make the window thing sit flush with the rotor wall.
Yea, the apex seal would just pass over it
Issue here would be uneven wear on the metal vs. window.
And more to the point, the glue might not hold.
Rotaries tend to be quite toasty I understand.
nah
that adhesive they used would hold
rotaries run at similar temperatures to piston engines
but block design means that the heat is focused in different areas
I see.
Uneven wear shouldn't be an issue, I would think

Nice
amphibious vehicle > car that drowns
brocks copming for my audi
That generation is a treat to drive. Probably the best generation of Si.
That generation of cjvic was exceptionally ugly
sapphire is also pretty fookin 'ard m8
the walls of the block would wear much faster
That generation isn't great on styling or material quality, but the SI is exceptional.
to drive at any rate.
The generation after that tho... that might be an underrated gem.
That was still a real Si with a higher revving engine.
To each their own.
Not a huge fan of the stance stuff. Stickers like that should be illegal tho. No way that doesn't block your view.
You know. I'm somewhat tempted to get a more modern car.
Why is modernity considered such a bad thing?
Would honestly not mind something like the last generation 118i.
And then throw a light tune at it to have 170+ HP.
Get a 114i and tune it to 200hp
Nah.
