#

But I doubt that's possible anymore

#

because it was a 91

delicate sinew

#

did it rot through in the second pic?

ripe spire
#

idk

#

probably did

delicate sinew
#

71k KM

#

It's got a bunch of things that could be repaired but eh, it's a good project car ๐Ÿ˜‚

ripe spire
#

but yeah we brought it from jersey when we moved here in 2011

#

that's why i said miles

delicate sinew
#

ah fair enough

ripe spire
#

it doesn't surprise me if part of it is rotted through

#

cause i mean the rust is bad

delicate sinew
#

Yeah

#

A lot can go bad like rust can just eat thru the cables and stuff

#

ask me how I know that

leaden laurel
#
  1. ABS Failure on all 4 wheels
  2. Airbag light for all airbag modules
  3. ECM Failure
  4. BCM Failure
  5. AC failure

tfw your car has none of those

#

Well, I do have an ECM/ECU of sorts.. but it's not exactly high tech

dense shard
#

oof

leaden laurel
#

I don't have any ABS or airbags because it was designed before they were even mandatory

dense shard
#

Amusingly ABS is one thing I can probably live without.

#

Still damn useful to have.

ripe spire
#

yo how bout a civic with itbs

dense shard
#

itbs?

leaden laurel
#

Yeahh, ABS is useful, but I can live without it

ripe spire
#

yeah @dense shard a d16 or b16 civic with em

#

as 4a-ge's sound lovely with em

dense shard
#

I have no clue what ITBS stands for.

leaden laurel
#

Neither do I

ripe spire
#

independent throttle bodies

dense shard
#

oh

ripe spire
#

one for each cylinder

dense shard
#

The D16/17 didn't come with those.

leaden laurel
#

Oh you mean Vtec?

dense shard
#

Dunno about the B-series, but I doubt that was a feature.

ripe spire
#

no

#

yeah i don't think it was but people have put them on their cars and they sound excellent

leaden laurel
#

Oh is it different from vtec?
I've never come across ITB before

dense shard
#

... weird upgrade

#

ITB is a fairly exotic idea.

#

Usually put on sports bikes.

ripe spire
#

you can really hear the induction noise

dense shard
#

That you can.

ripe spire
#

i mean imagine a b16 civic with that on without nothing else on it

#

it would sound so good

dense shard
#

I guess?

ripe spire
#

they're popular on race engines

dense shard
#

That they are.

#

Easy to mod.

ripe spire
#

they're probs easy to put on the car too

leaden laurel
#

I wish I could get my BX to make a bit more noise but it is still only a 1.6L carburetted inline 4..

ripe spire
#

although good idea is some filters so they won't succ up some small animals or dirt

dense shard
#

More noise is always nice, tho in my case I wish I had a bit more exhaust noise.

ripe spire
#

ooh itbs on a volkswagen vr6

leaden laurel
#

It had 92hp when new
I don't know how many horses have left the field now though..

ripe spire
#

another vehicle i want is a volkswagen or audi with a vr6

#

as my first vehicle

#

and change the exhaust so the only thing holding noise back is a high flow cat into a straight pipe with no mufflers or resonators and just straight 4 inch piping

leaden laurel
#

I don't even have a cat on mine

#

Dunno how much muffling it's got

dense shard
#

The new Corollas are apparently pretty quiet regardless.

ripe spire
#

but a vr6 with nothing holding it back except for a high flow cat

#

that'd sound awesome

#

basically open header with a cat

#

@dense shard good yes?

dense shard
#

Honestly not a fan of unmuffled exhaust.

ripe spire
#

ah

dense shard
#

A lot of V6s and I4s sound obnoxious without any mufflers.

ripe spire
#

not the vw vr6

dense shard
#

VR6 is a narrow angle V6 that shares a head.

ripe spire
#

yes

dense shard
#

oh wait, misread

leaden laurel
#

I've had 3 cars now

I had an 03 VW Polo, then an 04 Ford Fiesta, then a 91 Citroรซn BX

the Polo was a decent little car, until someone crashed into the back of me. The Fiesta lasted me a couple of years and was a great little runaround. The BX is by far my favourite though. Wonderful car to drive and it gets looks from so many people

dense shard
#

Anyway. Haven't heard many if any VR6s.

ripe spire
#

g r o w l

dense shard
#

I don't wanna be a downer. lol

#

It sounds alright tbh, but still not quite my cup of tea.

ripe spire
#

gotcha

dense shard
#

But it sounds better than all the other straight piped Civics.

ripe spire
#

mm hmm

dense shard
#

So you get this win, Emet.

ripe spire
#

also i wouldn't straight pipe the exhaust

#

i'd louden the intake

leaden laurel
#

I don't need to make noise for people to stare at my car as it goes past ๐Ÿ‘Œ

ripe spire
#

yes

#

to me its a sound mod tho

#

because g r o w l

leaden laurel
#

Yeah, I get that
I do like the noise

dense shard
#

Also it doesn't help that the new Corolla's exhaust setup is kinda stupid.

ripe spire
#

to me its the best sounding 6 cylinder that's mainstream out there

#

the engine that trumps it is the 4 litre porsche flat 6

#

that's it.

#

the thing with the porsche it sounds so smooth and so pure as it revs out to 9k rpm

#

and the vr6 is just pure g r o w l

leaden laurel
#

I like noise on cars that deserve it

Like, it's just shit when you hear a load of noise and it's just some slammed 1L 1998 Renault Clio going past that has a huge exhaust

ripe spire
#

yeah

#

but that vw

#

or any vw with the vr6 of any displacement

or valve train

UX... platform sibling to my Corolla... that means the platform is EV capable. Pogey

stoic ledge
#

Too bad the range isn't great imho

dense shard
#

~250 miles is adequate.

#

I'd use it as a commuter pod.

stoic ledge
#

๐Ÿ‘€ It's rated at 180 miles here

dense shard
#

๐Ÿค”

#

I'd rather see the range start with a 2.

#

And I'm not talking about 20 miles. lol

stoic ledge
dense shard
#

200-300 is ideal imo.

#

More is great.

stoic ledge
#

Idk European WLTP says 300km which is 186 miles iirc

dense shard
#

NEDC is saying 248 miles.

stoic ledge
#

Which isn't exceptionally great for a net range of 52kWh

#

> NEDC, that's waaaay to inaccurate

dense shard
#

The automaker initially said the UX 300e would be able to travel up to 250 miles on a single charge of its 54.3 kWh. However, that was calculated according to the old NEDC test cycle, which has since been replaced by WLTP, and under the new standards, the range is expected to drop to around to 186 miles.

stoic ledge
#

That's the testing cycle indicating a Golf can do 55MPG on gas

#

xD

dense shard
#

ah, go figure

#

Lexus is being a bit shitty here.

stoic ledge
#

You see ๐Ÿ™ƒ

dense shard
#

Well... 186 isn't tragic.

stoic ledge
#

And WLTP is usually above EPA even

dense shard
#

But... that's... barely adequate?

#

EPA would give the car probably 160 miles.

stoic ledge
#

Well it uses CHAdeMO, so that's just ๐Ÿ’ฉ

dense shard
#

Honestly I like the EPA test cycles the most since it's the most accurate.

stoic ledge
#

Yeah same

dense shard
#

Also CHAdeMO is a deal breaker.

stoic ledge
#

I agree

dense shard
#

America has gone for CCS.

stoic ledge
#

Europe too

dense shard
#

so I've heard... apparently some charging stations don't even offer CHAdeMO anymore.

stoic ledge
#

I think most don't actually, only fast chargers along freeways here

dense shard
#

Well... whatever. Good move for Lexus/Toyota. They can keep working on BEV development.

stoic ledge
#

That means nearly any new Toybota can be a EV

#

Corolla, Yaris, Yaris Cross, CH-R, UX... all share the same platform

#

TGNA or whatever

#

TNGA

#

Same ๐Ÿ˜›

dense shard
#

Yeah, more or less.

#

The UX is based on TNGA-C

stoic ledge
#

Apparently China has a CH-R EV

dense shard
#

It's selling pretty well outside of the US.

stoic ledge
#

I assume it's the exact same drivetrain as a UX

#

It's not doing too shabby here in ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ , they've done worse before ๐Ÿ˜›

dense shard
#

It seems to be the exact same drivetrain as the UX.

#

The numbers are the same at least.

stoic ledge
#

Ofcourse

#

Tbh I expect them putting it in everything

#

๐Ÿ˜›

#

It's the cheapest solution

dense shard
#

It really is.

#

That is the reason Toyota developed the platforms.

stoic ledge
#

PSA is doing the same, butting the same drivetrain in at least 4 different models iirc

#

Yeah

#

That's the beauty of modular architectures

dense shard
#

Still weird the CH-R isn't available as AWD in the US.

#

I bet it would be far more popular then.

stoic ledge
#

Japan only probably?

indigo coral
#

My car needs some work atm, need to do front calipers, then pads and rotors all around. Also need to replace the exhaust flange gasket after the flex pipe,

#

Lol

#

It's brokennnnnnnn

dense shard
#

ah, Everyone but the US gets AWD. lol

stoic ledge
#

@indigo coral still not fixed?

dense shard
#

It needs work... it's a 20 year old car... but it beats the engine falling out.

stoic ledge
#

And lol I don't think we have the AWD

dense shard
#

Well I say Europe as in all of Europe.

#

So maybe Netherlands don't get it, but say... Poland does.

stoic ledge
#

Yeah I get it

#

But still, lemme check

stoic ledge
#

I kinda like the PSA PHEVs.... also available with 300hp 4WD ๐Ÿ‘€

#

Or 225hp FWD, which is still plenty for 99% of the cases

#

Actually, upgrading from the 1.6 Turbo (180hp) to the PHEV (225hp) is "only" 2.4k, which for an electric motor, a 13.2kWh battery etc isn't that expensive

Also rumors are pointing to a larger car. So S4 sized.

Then again we'll see if the Type S is M3 performance. If so it'll be an M3 killer at under 80k.

#

Prius isn't a bad car but its dangerously slow
10+ seconds to 60 is not safe
@indigo coral It's only dangerous if you live in an area where an overwhelming majority (like, 9 out of 10 people) of people have never heard of traffic laws and do not give a single tiny fraction of a fuck about how their dangerous driving might affect other people. But at that point, literally any car becomes dangerously fast or slow.

In other words, its not dangerous at all. The problem lies within people and driving laws that don't give people a good enough reason to obey them.

#

I have never once felt that my Prius is too slow.

#

But I have been afraid of other people pulling the dumbest stunts ever and causing a horrible accident

#

There's a reason I obey traffic laws. Fear.

#

I can pay off tickets no problem, whatever. Its actually fairly difficult to get your license suspended (assuming you're not going full throttle everywhere and don't have a brain smoother than the average idiot)

#

But being killed, or being responsible for the death of others, that's not something I want to deal with

#

let alone medical bills, rising insurance, and having to worry about major car repairs or having to frantically search for a new car because its totalled

indigo coral
#

Here 2 tickets = end of your licence for 6 years

civic girder
#

good

indigo coral
#

That's over aggressive imo

civic girder
#

imo it should be one ticket, but that's just me

indigo coral
#

you're a fucking idiot if you think 5 over should lose you your licence

#

That's just dumb

civic girder
#

5 over isn't really ticket worthy imo

#

more like 11+ over

#

there should always be a little wiggle room, especially if it was going to be that strict

indigo coral
#

people wouldn't speed as much if speed limits weren't arbitrary

#

In Europe they're calculated/based on engineering studies

#

In the US they're whatever the politicians think will get them elected

#

or Karen from soccer practice shrieking at a city council meeting

#

(happened here)

civic girder
#

yea, US limits are big dumb

#

I 100% agree

indigo coral
#

25mph on a rural dual lane each way road is f**king stupid

civic girder
#

depends on how narrow the road is and what the surface is

indigo coral
#

It's a nice road

civic girder
#

a gravel road, why the fuck would you go higher than 25

indigo coral
#

It's not a gravel road

#

It's paved

civic girder
#

but paved and nice width

#

at least 60

indigo coral
#

It's like that but wider

civic girder
indigo coral
#

for the last one, imo it kind of depends. If it's based off negligence then yeah

civic girder
#

Ohio points system is mega dumb imo, now that I look at it

#

if you get 12 points within 2 years, your license is suspended for 6 months

#

I think it should be 12 points within 4 years and suspension for at least a year

#

people just don't learn

#

and this doesn't really help

#

driving with a suspended license should honestly be a criminal charge imo

indigo coral
#

That's surprisingly lenient for speeding

#

Cops here can issue reckless driving criminal charge for 1 over

civic girder
#

๐Ÿค”

indigo coral
#

which is immediate revocation of your licence permanently/until the court approves you to get a new one iirc

civic girder
#

that might be possible here too, I'm just on the DMV page rn

#

apparently its not illegal to use a cell phone while driving here

#

texting and driving is banned, but nothing else afaik

indigo coral
#

Wow

civic girder
#

yea

#

I think it should ban use of a cell phone in its entirety while the vehicle is moving

#

like, changing songs or putting a phone call on speaker at a stop light or stop sign is fine; but holding it in your hand and/or using it while driving should be insta license suspension

dense shard
#

A guy took California to court over cell phone usage in the car.

#

His argument is that it's safer and faster to pull up a map on your phone than to unfold a paper map... which is legal.

civic girder
#

I mean, that's true

#

but still

dense shard
#

And yes he did the entire unfolding a map dance at his seat to prove a point... last I heard he won.

civic girder
#

the paper map should also be changed

#

like wtf

dense shard
#

I mean... if you know how to use em, they're easy.

civic girder
#

even if you know how to use them effectively, it does take longer to figure things out than a cell phone

dense shard

true

#

That way it would be even easier.

civic girder
#

dense shard
#

I have a touch screen.

#

Might as well expect it. Beats working with the automotive interface. lol

civic girder
#

I think touch screens are stupid in cars

#

same with janky menu nav things like the Lexus mouse

#

having screens is not bad at all tho, don't get me wrong

#

such as having a screen to display bluetooth music or show a map readout of navigation from your phone

#

but when you basically have a full ass device in there, you've gone too far

#

its a car, not an iPad with wheels

indigo coral
#

I like that distinction bc imo it shouldn't be illegal to check your phone at a stoplight

#

@civic girder

civic girder
#

yea same

#

like glance to see if the text you got is important

indigo coral
#

the absolute worst you can do a stoplight is annoy the person / people behind you

#

If you're not paying attention.

civic girder
#

true, but it beats t-boning them for the same reason

indigo coral
#

That's what I mean, you can't hurt anyone really

#

And people have horns to let you know they're annoyed lol

civic girder
#

I also notice that almost everyone is checking their phone at stop lights anyways, so if you're checking yours then they won't even notice lmao

indigo coral
#

Lol

civic girder
#

I usually get a full Miata worth of space between me and the car behind me when I start at the front from a green light before they start moving

indigo coral
#

Oof

civic girder
#

ofc I often times won't even glance at my phone or answer the phone at a stop light

#

obv never touching when moving

indigo coral
#

I don't usually look at it at the stop light

civic girder
#

I am almost always just looking around and/or staring at the light

indigo coral
#

The only times I look at it when moving is bc navigating
