Used car market right now is brutal.
Honda Civic Sport didn't offer any features, the Si was feature weak, and not that great imo. The Mazda 3 was pretty fatally flawed.
I know, for my brother we're buying a 5 year old 75k car for 17k
Yeah, probably a very different market over here
Difference between buying new vs. used to minimal enough to get a good deal new.
Also I don't think stock used WRXs exist in the US... like I don't trust anyone selling a WRX in the US.
Well yeah, if the difference is 3k then what's the point
"oh yeah bro I didn't do any clutch drops... often."
lol
Manuals are great, but I don't quite trust manual drivers.
Mine still seems fine (:
i dont even trust automatic drivers
yeah
I've seen ME do that
redline in neutral then push it into drive
kablooey
oof
To be fair it was a $1500 car with an already destroyed transmission
But yeah. Until a new Civic comes out. I'd say that testing out a Corolla with the new 2.0L engine is worth a try.
4L60E with 300k on it
brake torquing isn't great for it but better than neutral dropping it
YOu weren't trying to sell it to someone under the guise of it being babied.
^^
Nah, I don't lie
my grandpa's RX never gets driven except when i drive it around
prevent flatspots, seals drying out, etc
I try not to beat on it too hard, just gas it here and there
Yeah, best I can hope is in the 30k my car had driven before I bought it was gentle
Worst case I have a good dealer warranty
idk how many miles that RX had on it when they got iut but rn its at 56k
which isn't bad for a 2007
Not bad at all
The RX 350 is surprisingly torquey
it hauls some ass
even though its only got 270hp
Aaaaaanyway, I'm sure the corolla is lovely, but I was more in the market for sport + 5 seat, not 5 seat + not THAT slow
Hahaha
I'm down 30 horsepower, and up 300 pounds.
Pretty much every car on the market would drop my RX in a side by side race
And keep in mind my car does remain a compact econobox.
Mine's properly slow, 220hp and a 4 speed and still 4 thousand pounds
And unlike Mazda features independent suspension all around.
Imagine having more than 83hp
plus I bet some horses have escaped in the past 22 yeras
I was going from an LS1 ute to something more economical and practical, so I couldn't go to something slower
Choices are kinda limited.
You can get a WRX...
An Si if you really want to?
Or a GTI if you want class... at the cost of potential issues down the road.
VW
The Golf is more expensive by a good chunk
if you want a sporty hatchback get an RS
I could have gotten a WRX for the same price as a GTI.
Focus RS is a fun car from what I understand
And if I was going to spend RS money... I'd get a Civic Type R.
I wouldn't know, I'll never be able to drive one
And a RS has a manual, so that's good
If I was buying a golf it would be an R
If I had to spend over 30k for a hatchback that starts at 25k.
I'd get a civic type r
Or just get a real sports car.
the type r is eccentric looking tbh
If I was buying a Golf I wouldn't

The Golf R, Civic Type R, and Focus RS are all more than I wanted to spend
I can't afford to insure anything fast ๐
Yep
I'm planning to use the Corsa for at least 2 more years
I'm keeping the 'rolla till I die.
Maybe even longer
Or 25 years... whichever comes first.
Lol
And I wasn't interested in less than top spec for any other than the Subaru, because it's got some head room for modification, I like how it looks more than the others, and it's better on fuel than the STI
vroom vroom
Since it was 100k
A Toyota Land Cruiser is better on gas than an STi.
That's amazing
Honestly the STI is the best example of how far engine tech has actually come in the last 20 years.
40k brand new, I got mine for 30k
oof
WRX starts at 27k in the US.
That's USD
yes
So basically same
AUD that weak?
Is a base wrx auto or manual?
At the moment yeah, equivelant of 19,600 USD
The WRX is one of last cars left in which the automatic is slower and worse on gas.
They're sticking with the CVT for some reason
cheaper
Yeah, it'll lose them customers
Idk what โฌ100k EUR is in AUD, but it's 110k USD
Are CVT autos as bad as people say?
I mean the WRX is so niche, they're not losing any customers at this point.
The WRX and STI make up like... 3% of total Impreza sales?
They're everywhere here
CVT is horrible on gas only cars
They are excellent on hybrids
CVTs are aight
Either way the Levorg would probably be more likely a candidate for a lot of people, including me, but it only comes with the CVT
Not enough takers for the manual I imagine.
I remember talking to a mechanic about cvts and he said cvts are about life 30% more likely to break. Wanted to know if he was just tired of fixing broken cvts and angry
Same engine and trans
Did previously anyway, 2.4 that came out later was different
LeVorg only comes in 1.4 and 1.6 sizes.
Europe only had the 1.6 IIRC
oh wow... it did come with the 2.0... interesting.
Wasn't sold with the 2.0 in Japan.
That's even more strange
@vapid shadow on gas only, that sounds about right. I don't remember exactly why, but there's a difference in how a gas only car starts moving compared to a gas-electric hybrid that causes issues with the CVT and wears it out over time
I've never seen a diesel CVT
Never heard LeVorg before
That being said... new LeVorg starting production this year.
So this could imply new WRX soon.
If they change the transmission options I might trade up to one eventually
But I doubt they will
don't count on it.
Levorg is basically a WRX wagon?
And to be fair I like my car
sort of
Basically yeah
Impreza wagon yeah
My plan is to pick up a project car in the future. Keep the Corolla mostly stock.
Why not in US? ๐
Because Americans don't buy wagons.
F
That is why I bought a venza. I want a project car in the future
Car fans be all like, "bring us this car to the US, we want it"
Automaker does and car fans be all like, "ewwwww, I only buy used"
Car fans can be stupid.
That's what I've done. I've got a Prius and an RX-7
It do be like that
"Why are there so few manual cars on the market"
because you idiots don't buy them new. Automakers don't cater to second hand markets. ffs
Last year. I was one of maybe 2% in the US who bought a manual.
More EVs were sold in the US.
F
And I'm the idiot for buying new. I just want to say. You're welcome. Cause in 20 years you'll have two choices to buy. Beat up WRX or fresh Corolla.
8% of the sold cars in ๐ณ๐ฑ last year was a Model 3
Why do you hate me and my WRX
not you
We just want to go fast
WRX drivers in America WILL mod their cars.
I'll mod mine
All American WRX drivers mod their cars.
Doesn't mean I won't treat it right
I wouldn't say all
And it usually boils down to low suspension and exhaust can bigger than my head.
More like a majority
You treat it right and you'll have a clean survivor WRX to sell.
I will
Apparently Corollas tend to die by T-bone.
So who knows. I might not have this car in 15 years.
@dense shard that's cause people don't care and can't drive
Most cars die when getting T-boned xD
They're jealous of the reliability
I would say internal forces were responsible
Ride a motorbike, you can have a nice nap when you get T boned and forget all about your destroyed vehicle
You can't get tboned if you're following traffic laws
You definitely can
But I've seen so many new Corolla sedans already beat up.
Like... c'mon guys. You're making me look bad.
I've seen cars get T boned while parked in their driveways
I've seen exactly 1 new Corolla Sedan
It's like they run into a tree leaving the dealer lot.
I'll bet you now. in 10 years if you want a clean Corolla it will be easier to find a clean Corolla hatch
Anyway. No hate on WRX or the drivers.
Hate on the STi for being old and obsolete tho.
It's a pure tuner car with no other real applications imo.
Like the top gear Peugeot episode
I dislike any idiot who does dumb mods and doesn't follow traffic laws. Aka, 85% of people in the US
I still think they're cool, very obselete though
uhhh, yeah. Cool but like... c'mon Subaru.
We actually enjoyed our Peugeot 307 for 10 years
2.5L turbo AWD car... and it's slower than the Honda hatch.
Great family car
'Very considerate of James there, gave me a nice nudge as he went by just to let me know he was there'
No more Forester manuals even.
Maniac
Yobbo
We don't have double mini roundabouts so I was watching that like 'Well, guess I'm stupid now'
Mini roundabouts are the most idiotic invention imho, nobody in the UK knows how to drive them
And yeah, hot Foresters aren't going to be a thing anymore, another great loss, but as you said, people weren't buying them new
I mean... give me a few million and I will. lol
I wanted to be able to afford a WRX or GTI... but I really really really really couldn't justify it.
(7 months later still no job)
https://tweakers.net/fotoalbum/image/8sdD7DFDyXyc13qrTpoapYfW.jpg
Look at that beast
It seems like basically a game of 'who has right of way' where no one is really sure
Instead of making them a "hot" version they should take the forester xt approach
Honestly. Here's the issue Subaru and Honda have/had.
That's all I mean, just a turbo model
I'd love a turbo Crosstrek
Doesn't actually have to be fast, just needs some room to go up without rebuilding the whole engine
When they offered a manual it was a "FINE FUCK YOU HERE HAVE YOUR MANAUL" It was a base trim with no features. It was a penalty box.
My next daily is going to be either a Prius or a Mazda with a rotary. What will Mazda do? Only time will tell...
Even the Accord Sport isn't exactly feature rich at that price.
Just run it like a 2 stroke bike engine
Or then you have the Mazda approach to manuals.
Yeah I don't get why highers trims are immediately an automatic
"Oh so fancy, well no one got the base mazda 3 with a manual, so we'll only offer it on the top top top trim..."
I actually like the lack of driver aides, makes it feel more like a drivers car
You can have a driver's car with features.
But to be fair I've never had them so I can't miss them
And blind spot monitoring has saved my bacon a few times now.
~~yeah, a drivers car like a lexus rx! ~~
Imo, a driver's car packed full of useless features ain't a driver's car
A dashcam is enough safety for me xD
I feel like blind spot monitoring wouldn't be as necessary if those pillars weren't so big
thats bc you like old cars lol @civic girder
Not necessarily
I wouldn't call radar cruise or BSM "useless"
I shoulder check hard
There were useless features in older cars too
I shoulder check, mirror check, and BSM check.
for all its faults, my RX has incredible visibility
Nah adaptive cruise is a super good feature
Honestly the safety features are just... a fall back of my turning my head.
Same thing with my old Volvo the visibility was incredible compared to my venza
I'm human. I WILL fuck it up one day. And it will save me.
But will if though?
yes
That one time I derp. My car beeping at me will save me... as it already has once.
SMH you're not perfect
Also autonomous cruise control is just... comfy.
I never focus more and never feel more awake or alert than when I'm driving
I'm sure Australia would love it considering their roads and distances. lol
Yeah, but I'd rather have a manual with none than a CVT with it
And correct me if I'm wrong, but Australia is for the most part fairly flat?
I'll take the snake over Karen.
Depends how you catagorize flat
i'd take karen over the snake tbh
just stick my earbuds in and block karen out
can't block a snake out
My house is on the side of a very steep hill.
Not a massive amount of mountains, but roads aren't flat, they rise and fall and curve around with the land
hmmm...
somewhere between mountains and the midwest US
Also that's the thing. Why are we forced to choose between stripper manuals and loaded automatics?
That's dumb.
It is
... that being said I'm with you.
I like the way Jeremy Clarkson characterize the Midwest he said it was like Holland but there are no flowers or marijuana
Bad Holland
Still... Toyota got it right at least.
Corolla XSE with everything but fancy stereo and headlights... with a manual.
I didn't expect the car to be fun to drive...
Or be good quality on the inside.
Or even a good value.
170 is more than enough to get me into trouble. I wouldn't mind a 100 more horses, but I'm happy with what I have.
And I like being fast, but driving something fun can absolutely be cheap as chips
At least it's good Holland
I'd be more insulted to be compared to the midwest tbh.
I was quoting Clarkson I usually call it the Netherlands
Yeah Midwest is bad we have Ranch though
Imagine being compared to Ohio. This meme made by the Kentucky gang.
it's called mkland
Never got why it was called Holland.
Get into 4th grade... "what is this Netherlands"
2 provinces are Holland
But those people think they're the greatest, so they just call it Holland
ah... I see.
But the 10 other provinces are annoyed by it
Okay next question... Cause I'm curious.
It's like when Chicagoans refer to the whole midwest as Chicago
Ethnically... y'all Dutch.
Why Dutch to Netherlands to Holland?
Cause usually... Poles live in Poland and speak Polish.
Idk why it's fucked up in English
But the Dutch live in Netherlands/Holland, and speak Dutch.
In Dutch it's perfectly normal
Where does hollandaise come into all of this
Country: Nederland
Language: Nederlands
People: Nederlanders
... that makes sense.
So idk where Dutch comes from
The Amish
Np
They also are considered swamp Germans
There are only two things I can't stand in this world, people who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch
https://www.quest.nl/artikel/waarom-heten-wij-the-dutch ( Short and simple. ) https://onzetaal.nl/taaladvies/dutch/ ( More indepth. ) 'Dietsch betekende eigenlijk 'van het volk' (of, iets ruimer, 'volkstaal'); het is afgeleid van het Middelnederlandse woord diet, dat 'volk' of...
The stig is allergic to them you know
Iedereen is van de wereld en de wereld is van Nederland.
it's 4am here
G E K O L O N I S E E R D
Kill me
ik handhaaf je zo in elkaar, makker
I'm going to go sell my WRX for a corolla
Trade in my heeler for a maltese
Trade in your hamburger for a taco.
nah I kid. Keep your WRX.
If I had an extra 5k to spend I'd have ended up in one I feel.
You'll be more comfortable, I'll be faster
Yes kei car == sport car
lol
One day I'll give up on faster around corners and buy something heavy with a turbo 6 or a V8
To save my spine
Actual I quite dig kei cars, I'd think they're quite cool
They are.
W201 is almost a kei car
I loved my Suzuki.
Anyway catch peeps
jk but it does look small
If I had the money I'd import a cappu
Have a good whatever time it is
I'm still asking myself what might be wrong with my car. E46 320i. :c
Oh
Gn
Indicator broken?
Getting errors when revving to like 5,500 rpm, for those wondering.
oohhhhh
Smh. I need to do my daily Italian tune-up.
320i is an I6 or
Unlikely. Considering that I go through 40 liters a week.
E46 320i is I6 iirc yeah
And the 320i is the 6 cylinder, yeah
Battery light goes off, along with the brake error light.
Goes away again after I drop the revs.
It's not the voltage regulator. That was the first thing I replaced.
Neighbours across the street traded their fully optioned Golf PHEV (204hp) for a base 0 options 218i coupe (1.5 3-cyl)
hhh
hahaha
I want that 218 couple.
GOOD CHOICE MATE
Coupe*
They wanted a BMW.
Even a 1er would be more practical
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOLtS4VUcvQ This is great.
The transmission in the modern motorcar -- the mechanism that makes it possible to have three forward speeds and a reverse -- is a series of levers, levers that spin.

Later guys, I'm gonna throw plates at the Turkish
You can easily tune that 135 hp engine up to 200 hp.
Since it has a proper back seat
have fun Dusty.
@vapid shadow
You can easily tune that 135 hp engine up to 200 hp.
It sounds like an Aygo tho

Better sounding than the 4 cylinder.
Well not really when running, but the start up is rough
Meh my brothers 318i sounded better tbh
@civic spoke turboed?
Mine isn't. N/A
Yeah, it is.
Or software turbo ๐
@dense shard yeah that video is great, really clear
What car isn't these days?
1.5 3cyl is turbo yes
What car isn't these days?
Entry level A/B segment cars, Mazda
but I think the balance is actually really great in my car so idk more hp fun but less reliable
need project car
hh

I'm 17
BMW F22 218i - Open exhaust modification - M235i sound from a 3 cil
Open exhaust + full rear muffler from a M135i which was adapted to fit on a F22 118i ..
super sound on a budget !
Im not even allowed to drive my "daily"
I could never manage a project car with that haha
meh
I know your feel, bought mine 2 months before I was 18
@civic spoke lol open exhaust
Ah yes
7k rpm tractor noises
3cyls sound bad
it's a tractor at idle
and it happens to be able to rev 7k
7k? or less idk

this is how mine sounds
but it's the newer 2.3 engine
mine has 136hp not the old 132
sounds very much the same tho
That interior uwu
OwO
When LTTCars NL

Lelystad Airport is far away for me too
but it's a good location
I live in Zeeland
ooh yeah
but fast car go brrr
and you'll be in lelystad soon
also get fined like crazy
CC?
Cruisecontrol
ooh i dont think i have that

You don't need cruise control in an N/A or supercharged car
just a steady foot
problem starts when you have a turbo
you dont know anymore how much power you give
Yeah but at 130/140 that's fine, at 100 it isn't
80 roads could just merge onto the highway nowadays
i wouldnt see the problem besides from the berm
xd

the car i take driving lessons in is a turbo diesel 308
good car yes but
good: car
bad: turbo
~1k rpm minimum
unless 4th gear and up because then you have to wait 15 minutes for boost
yes
supercharge or else
I wont LS swap my car
and im not allowed to LS swap the drivers ed car
For my driving lessons, I used a Clio IV 1.5 dCi
LS swap will be perfect for my GM car
There have been Busa swaps for Smart cars.
o no
Oh yes
Who wouldn't want a 1,300 cc engine that revs to 10,000 in a tiny car?
170-190 hp, too. Just not a whole lot of torque.
Most engines are all torque today
not that RX
ill rotary swap a 190e
Lexus RX.
lmao
nah lexus meh
lexus
.
Take FWD Camry
Remove rear seats
LS in rear, RWD
Original engine for FWD
Sync them
2+2WD system!
๐ค
Someone did it with a Cadillac El Dorado
๐
.
@median egret that is actually cursed
Does this count as a car on here lol
Just wanted to ask why the disk breaks are not the same
Wide and small
you mean front vs. back?
Chances are the front brakes will take vastly more heat, so they double up, and are larger.
Rear brakes aren't the primary method of stopping since your bike's weight shifts forward when slowing down.
Same applies for cars more or less.
front brakes are always beefier and stronger
the front brakes take the brunt of the load when you brake a vehicle
bikes need front brakes that can take more heat, just like cars, but they also need to not grab so hard you flip over the front wheel
like on both my cars, they are front disc and rear drum. They stop very well despite having drum brakes. Why? Because the front brakes do the most work
wat
Bad idea for a 16 year old or na itโs only a 250
Yes, but no, but yes?
It is a 250, but it's a fairly new one... usual narrative goes that first time bike riders will drop their bike fairly often.
Are you willing to ding up a fairly new bike?
But it is a 250... so like... I hear those are pretty great as starters?
I could get a grom but a cbr or gsxr is goals
Advice I can give you based on what my friends did... Please buy all the safety gear.
Yea Iโm gonna buy a good helmet
and jacket, pants, and boots.
And wear a hoodie or sum Iโm gonna ride it to hs in the warm season then drive a car in the winter
But depends on what my grandma says she rlly doesnโt like motor cycles lol
Yeah, sure. That could work.
I mean... I'd just say get a nice car.
I'm with gran here. lol
Otherwise absolutely get all the protective gear. It'll save your bacon.
Itโs like a 6 minute drive to school but Iโve always wanted a bike soo itโs kinda hard to choose I could get a pickup and a dirt bike and since I live in the country drive that off road and not have to worry about stupid high insurance and taking a test plus I could learn how do ride a bike
I would go with dirt bike for sure. I don't trust other people to not be dumb when driving on the road
Yeah, there's that.
Because she has said hell no im not riding a bike on the road until Iโm 18 and not her problem but she doesnโt rlly care it sounds like about the dirt bike because thereโs a lot of places that are closed course riding spots in Michigan
It's not that I am afraid of riding a bike, its that I'm afraid of other people if I were to be riding a bike
I've made mistakes, and I've seen many other people make mistakes
look at statistics, and imo bikes are not smart purely from a safety perspective
but in the end its up to you
Yea around here a old lady broke out of a nursing home and stole a car and rear ended a guy and his wife at full speed killing the wife and almost killing him
jfc
Okay that's a fairly edge case example. I was thinking other stupid 16 year old texting and running a stop.
But if I got a dirt bike I donโt have to register it since Iโm not riding it in the street
But you can't drive it on the street then.
Yea thereโs been a lot of bike accidents
Have you considered an adventure bike?
Whatโs that?
Bike that can do some off roading and on roading
Is it one of those street dirt bike hybrids
yeah
I mean, you could have plenty of fun with just a dirt bike. Really up to you
Yea I wanted to get a dirt bike and get a extra set of wheels and put street tires on for wheelies in parking lots
At that point I could just get a grom
also true
if I were you, I'd just get a Ranger and a dirt bike
The truck and dirt bike are the safest option imo
A old ranger those are pretty cool
get a carb one
What year are those
pre 90s I imagine.
they were only available with carb for like 2 or 3 years
I know the 83 base model was carb
To be fair.
otherwise just get a 90s one
The fuel injected ones should be easy enough to maintain.
the 80s EFI is shit
yea, I'd just get a late 90s one with a duratec
The 4 popper?
the 4 banger would be good enough to haul a bike in the bed
Yo those are cheap I could get my bike and the truck for like 4 grand I wanted a Jeep xj but I was gonna blow a lot on it
Cheap, decent, and durable.
I mean I have a trailer I could use but with a ranger I could just throw it in the bed and strap it down
I'm def gonna be trying to get a Mazda B2600 sometime late next year
or a B2200/2000
whatever I can find low rust/rust free for a decent price
and in manual
That will be my next project since I suspect the RX-7 will basically be done, besides paint, by then
Are those old rangers a good base for off-roading
Ok
the only big difference in offroad potential is that the ranger has a longer wheel base
as long as you had a good frame and proper suspension, should be fine for jumps
and I'd suggest you get a 4x4 one if that's what you want to do
it would probably be really expensive and require lots of welding to get a proper "prerunner" like the one in that pic
uhhh, idk if LS actually fits or not
probably does, but I'm not really sure
Turbo k series? Lol
I would almost rather just turbo the 4 banger or if you get a V6 supercharge it
I would do the suspension and wheels first then focus on the engine
yea
Also widening the body
idk shit about off roading or setting up for jumps tho, its probably expensive
and might ruin its ability to function as a daily driver
True
but if you needed a new daily, I'm sure you could find a cheap Corolla
I want to mod my car so then probably just a 2 inch lift and some wheels and tires
up to you, really
Still daily drivable
yea, I'd settle for a lift and proper off road suspension
personally, I'd have two sets of tires
one for the street and one for the trails
Yea off road tire handle like shit on the road
off road tires make lots of noise and hurt fuel economy
yea, not mentioning the shit grip too
that would certainly be more feasible, especially short term
But yea i want a 4wd car or truck because rwd or fwd sucks in the winter
Yea
RWD is pure ass in the winter
You always get told RWD is trash in the winter, but its a whole different story when you experience it yourself
Me laughs in my old dreams of dailying a clapped out 240 year round in Michigan
240s are true shit heaps lmao
finding a clean one is like finding a needle in a haystack ๐
Gotta get a imported one
pretty much, but then its practically a different car
There all clean and come with a sr
There was a mint coupe at a importer in my town with wheels recaros and coilovers for like 13 grand
Something I want to do after the truck project is L24 swap a Z31
Jesus
๐บ bad
๐
the Z31 is the only Z car I like the looks of, and the L24 is the only good Z engine imo
7k out of a carbed straight 6 from the 70s is insane
The have a r33 gtst 25 for 17 grand
I'd rather have an 80s shitbox lmao
the L24 swap and the car would probs be less than 17k
the truck project is also going to be pretty cheap
I really want a r32 4 door after seeing Adam lzs
but they're expensive and I would rather have L24 swap Z31 than clean and stock Hakosuka
I think the r31 is kinda ugly
ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
Or are you talking the original gtr?
Ohh yea those look good
plus they have carbed motors
Na rb30 swap
There worth a fuckton of money but you would be the only one with a rb30
but those already have side draft, so I doubt webers would really add that much power
Take that back rb30 with a 6 speed sequential
even more yikes
iirc, rb30 isn't even that great a motor
and sequential is hella boring
you can do straight cut gears in a stick shift too
Does it make the noise?
yes
Ahh thatโs better
you just have to be really good at rev matching ๐
Straight cut built cdo9 with no lift shift
iirc, manuals that whine like that don't have synchros, so have fun
hmmm
After I get the truck project I'm probs gonna have to decide whether I want to get a new daily or get a van
but that's future me problems
Why a van?
I just want one
an AWD mid engined van would be sick
It would be an easy project. Just fix it up and make it nice, then slap a supercharger on it and call it a day
the truck will be a lot more involved, but would progress slowly enough I'd probably be able to fit a van in there. After the van would be new daily time
Who makes mid engined vans
What are they called?
Previa
Put a jz in it
Damn that would be fun asf
Rotary swap??????
That's what the truck is for
Your rotary swapping a truck
yes
Is it gonna be a stock rotary?
yes
Dang built Doritos are cool
What type of truck is it
If i had enough money since Doritos are expensive I would build one and throw it in the ranger with a external waistgate hood exit
That'd be neat, but not the kind of truck I'd be looking for
I want it to be clean and usable as a truck
a mostly stock rotary will make similar numbers to a 4 banger Ranger
carb rotary on stock port, hella reliable too
Ohh a sleeper but rotarys are obviously not stick
what
*stock
I mean
I'm not going to be building it for speed
I'm going to be building it to do truck things, but make cool noises while doing it
Tru straight pipe?
I already have an RX-7 and kinda want another one to port and turbo
it'd be catless, but wouldn't be full straight pipe
Is your rx7 stock?
my current one is yes, and will likely be staying that way
only major plans I have for it is to maybe Miata diff swap
I like the old fbs after seeing the Vargas broโs build a drag one for 10 thousand
Are you gonna do wheels or keep it completely stock?
All I'm doing is emissions delete, and thinking about Miata diff so I can get an LSD
Ok
but since its really just a reliable cruiser/show car, LSD isn't even necessary
if I get another one, I definitely want to put Kia gears in it and bridge port it
I would do something with a rotary but a rotary is a lot of money for a 16 year old
yea, definitely true
You have to get lucky with a fairly good one or you'll be paying out the ass for the motor to get rebuilt
which can be fine, if you have money
Yea if I get a Jeep I want to build the i6
I really want a turbo but a super charger would do the trick then suspension wheels and tires and finally a wide body pre runner kit and then I would daily it
if you wanted to off road it, I would go with a supercharger
the linear boost makes more sense
Yea instant power
I mean I would rlly only want a turbski because of the sound but a super charger would be better all around
if you want turbo noises, you can always slap an ebay turbo on a Corolla
Toyota engines respond to boost very well, and they're reliable
Doesn't necessarily have to be a Corolla, but those are cheap so it'd be more financially viable
Jzx90 but then there like 15 grand for a manual
you dream quite big ๐
Hilux?
They build them in dubai to go up massive dunes
Land cruisers
we have those here in the states
We do?
Yep, we've had them for a looooong time
The J40 is a Jeep alternative that is quite popular
J100s and J200s are everywhere
the J100/200 you can even get with UZs
Yea
The J70 is still in production, holy shit
that's been in production since 84
updated and facelifted numerous times ofc
FJ45 pickup
There is one of those at my grandparents condo in Florida
The new land cruiser look pretty cool
Tesla Cybertruck: Elon Musk scraps plan to make electric pickup smaller - Electrek
what an effing idiot
It's a bit of a "well whatever we'll make another truck anyway."
I love some of the comments tho
"This is a fairly trivial issue. Pretty sure this thing is immune to bird guano and hail."
Keeping stainless steel clean is a royal pain in the ass. There's a reason no one does it.
And bird shit will ruin the finish on literally any metallic surface... painted or not.
bird shit ruins painted cars in a matter of hours sometimes
its going to destroy the metal of the cybertruck
Well maybe not destroy... but mar it?
100%
or wait... parking under trees that have berries.
Imagine your truck turning colors. lol
"Gee you really found some problems. Except that the truck is STAINLESS and completely unphased by weather, and Tesla's work great in the Arctic circle. Who cares what the air temp is?"
Teslas work great in the Arctic Circle
uhhhh... ignoring the massive range drop all BEVs experience?
And the Model X ice issues?
Also everyone be all like "it doesn't matter because the CT isn't that much longer than a "the biggest spec of the F-150 you can buy.""
Like... those fuckers are too big to begin with. lol (Everything is too big tbh)
"Gee you really found some problems. Except that the truck is STAINLESS and completely unphased by weather, and Tesla's work great in the Arctic circle. Who cares what the air temp is?"

I work with stainless steel all days
it can dry in a bad way
then it Looks ugly
so any grease or dust could cause it to dry ugly
it's not truly stainless
that's what I wanted to say
Any love for my Citroรซn BX Athena?
We used to have an XM Wagon.
Nice!
Yup
Great to drive too
Cos of the hydropneumatic suspension it's so smooth
damn
super 90s
80s
80s design, yes
My car was built in 91
Love those old Citroens
True, it'll be hard to find an importer in who-the-hell-cares Illinois though
I can't afford the SM... or have the patience to repair it.
Personally... I think the SM is one of the most beautiful cars ever made.
Also one of very few cars that are FWD, but still have the engine behind the front axle.
I don't live in the US so don't need to import it :P
Where ya from?
UK
ah, I can't call you a surrender monkey then
Lol
You are a lamb burning Wiltshire peasant though
True, true
The BX only cost me ยฃ1600 and the Athena special edition is one of three RHD ones left on the road
Jealous, $2000(roughly 1600 pounds) can get me a used chevy cobalt
or a saturn astra
two of the worst cars known to man
Lol
I mean yeah.. not especially great cars..
I love old American cars. Just so huge and look incredible. Shame they're so rare over here and cost a fortune
Also our roads aren't exactly big enough for them
Yeah, my grandpa has a 79 corvette and my great grandma drove a 1969 Camaro for 30 years
Damn
Nice
And the corvette stereotype of having about 15,000 coats of wax on the car is correct
Don't have to worry about rust and paint flaking if your bodywork is 90% wax
True, funny thing is that car is probably slower than that Chevy Cobalt
Yeah, but.. I certainly know what I'd rather have
Absolutely it's such a fun car to drive and beautiful to look at
Even with a 150 horsepower and a 3-speed automatic
Yeah
What is it with most cars in the US being auto, anyway?
Two reasons really the United States is full of safe car fetishists that's the reason most new cars are automatic and they're just per population than just isn't too many car enthusiasts in the United States. and there's a certain prestige that comes with driving an automatic in the United States when you drive a manual and it states here either a car enthusiast or you're looked at funny for driving a base model Elantra
I don't know the reason people view automatic cars is safer but they do
Huh, weird..
I just like driving a manual
It's sort of becoming more popular for people to buy automatics over here but there's still a lot of manuals
People are viewing cars more and more as appliances so the easier they can work the happier people will be
A lot of people literally just want a thing to get them from A to B and that's that
or a saturn astra
two of the worst cars known to man
Angery
Cars have always been appliances.
Just because they required more involvement to drive in years past didn't make people "car guys" back then.
And I don't know about prestige when it comes to driving automatic. Most people just drive automatic because that's what they know, and that's what's on offer.
Automatics are more convenient. It's why most cars in the US are now automatic. Same goes for Japan. Kei trucks are a sole exception where price reigns supreme, but my understanding is automatics even in that field are beginning to take over.
Manuals at this point are sold to people who want them. Mazda can't explain why people should buy their manuals. I imagine Toyota is doing it for that slice of niche market share at this point.
(and at this point automatics jive with various autonomous features more than manuals, meaning we'll see manuals go away complete soon enough when various features become mandatory and/or expected)
naturally aspirated 5 liter V8
Toyota doesn't really have anything else at this point.
most smol cars like that are 4bangers now
or V6 at most.
I imagine Germany gets the V6 to remain competitive.
Some markets expect a car to come with certain features.
or be a certain size.
That's something Infiniti lacks it seems.
They're a step out of phase with the rest of the competition.
You can barely get Lexus with non-hybrid these days.
Zhe German konfigurator only shows the IS 300h as well
Germany does have the regular gas versions of the UX, NX and RX
LS and LC as well
๐ณ๐ฑ Only had the RC F, LC and LS with a regular gas engine
Aren't there rumors that the LS is getting a V8 again?
3.5 TT V6 is already 25k more than the AWD hyrbid, won't matter for us anyways xD
But could be, idk, haven't heard of it yet
Hopefully the IS gets a major refresh
It's due for a new platform.
The first gen is still the coolest Lexus IS imo
The legendary Altezza.
The car that started an entire industry and styling movement based around clear taillights.
It looked great on the IS but not on a Corsa
They look fine in pretty much all factory/OEM applications.
Pretty much yeah
But it's finally dying out as automakers move to LEDs.
Which is perfectly fine
yeah. Styling flairs come and go. It's time we move on.
my RX had red tail lights but later ones had clear iirc
interesting.
Even my granny has them
Or rather 'tezzas are getting interesting as automakers move to LEDs.
I'm glad W201 taillights aren't clear
they messed with stuff after '99
the later ones had a lower redline and less power too
@ripe spire this was the first "van" my dad ever bought
y e s
He bought it in 2000 with 12,800 km's on it
Drove it to about 335,000 KM's
no oil changes at all
lol
the entire engine was sludge ridden but still operating
at 335k KM, I'll tell you the problems we had
one stupid thing with the toyota v8's is that the starter is hidden inside the engine
not inside inside its under the intake
which is uhh
- ABS Failure on all 4 wheels
- Airbag light for all airbag modules
- ECM Failure
- BCM Failure
- Incorrect speedometer / odometer / tachometer readings
- Horn failure
- AC/Heat failure
- Engine near seized
- Transmission near seized
- ....Should I continue
Half the fuses that were in the fuse / relay box were blown
so certain things were not working

rip
headlights would flash on and off at random times
lol
lol
At one point, we gave the van to my uncle because he has a shop right
aight
He said it cost him about $2,500 to bring it back to "brand new" lmao
LOL
He just went to the scrap yard, found several of these vans, like the Dodge Grand caravan / Chrysler Town & Country
Ripped out the engine, transmission, ECM/BCM, airbags, etc etc
meanwhile my moms forester at 108k miles is uhh starting to die
bruh
the starter is being idiotic
and we've gone through 2 knock sensors
so our check engine light just stays on
we have an exhaust leak
what does it say the issue is?
its our knock sensor
bruh
Yeah that sounds like something other than the knock sensor, you'd have to investigate further
I have a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze and I'm kinda upset because the people who owned it before me ruined the turbo on it
odd when we replaced it it was fine for a while
Spent about $2,000 to replace it
If the issue with the knock sensor comes back, you might want to check your engine timings, because the knock sensor could be seeing something you might not
anyways our headlight on the drivers side only wants to turn on on high beam
so yeah we have electrical problems
oof.
and rust
nice
This was a really nice car. It feels nostalgic if I ever see one on the road
