smoky gate
#

and break the engine in half

civic spoke
smoky gate
#

id love to drive this

#

it looks kinda stupid but i love it

civic spoke
#

First one is for picking up and hauling contailers, etc.

#

Second one is just for trailers.

smoky gate
#

i love the offset cab macks

civic spoke
#

Why have it offset?

carmine summit
#

There's a lot of those around here, they're definitely unique

smoky gate
#

i dont know why theyre like that

carmine summit
#

useful for other applications like cranes and stuff

smoky gate
#

i just think its cool

#

ive never seen one with a crane

#

but i can see that

civic spoke
#

I guess they use that room for exhaust stuff.

smoky gate
#

i only know they exist because a construction company that has a shop next to where i live has a butt load of them

carmine summit
#

well drilling trucks too, my neighbour has a couple of these with drilling rigs and another neighbour has one with a crane and 2 steering axles

#

water wells are a surprisingly big industry here

civic spoke
smoky gate
#

oh jesus

#

thats quite large

civic spoke
#

Truck for saving trucks.

smoky gate
#

lmao

#

i used the truck to save the truck

#

but what if that truck needed to be saves

#

saved

carmine summit
#

looks stubby to me, I'm used to the wreckers we have here

smoky gate
#

@civic spoke what if that truck needed to be saved

carmine summit
civic spoke
#

Then you bring in the big brother.

smoky gate
#

whats the big brother?

#

is it bigger and more brotherlike?

civic spoke
smoky gate
#

oh my god

civic spoke
#

Throw on a 5th axle πŸ˜„

smoky gate
#

thats so excessive lmao

civic spoke
#

Axtually. Speaking of those trucks.

smoky gate
#

1 wheel for that probably costs as much as my jeep kk

civic spoke
#

I saw this thing today. And it really made me rubberneck.

carmine summit
#

I live not far from one of the busiest highways on the continent and in the winter a lot of trucks need towing and removal from highway medians

smoky gate
#

oh thats interesting

#

i dont live near anything special

civic spoke
#

It's a Nissan Navara.

smoky gate
#

well i take that back i llive near the saratoga battlefeild

#

oh

#

whats that gonna tow?

carmine summit
#

very small cars

civic spoke
#

More or less normal cars.

#

Going to see if I can find the license plate of one.

#

See what towing capacity it has.

carmine summit
#

I'm friends with the owners of a local towing company, turned down a job offer though because I didn't feel like unloading rolled van trailers was something I would want to do

smoky gate
#

oh fun

civic spoke
#

It's able to tow 3,000 kg cars.

#

So basically anything normal.

smoky gate
#

oh thats neat

carmine summit
#

Kenworth had the best paint schemes back in the 70s

#

new trucks are boring

smoky gate
#

i agree

civic spoke
#

Money. Money. Money. starX

#

If I ever get myself a truck for towing trailers.

carmine summit
civic spoke
#

Then I want pinups on the side of it.

carmine summit
#

My dad's told me a few times about "racing" the people he worked with to see who could get to destinations the fastest, most of them had newer trucks (all owner operators) but the 400 big cam Cummins in his K100 wasn't stock so even if they left sooner he could catch up and then pass them up a hill

#

I think I know where I get the urge to modify everything

civic spoke
#

And here your trucks are limited to 90 kmh. starX

carmine summit
#

trucks are limited to 105 km/h here now

#

apparently back in the 80s though you could do 80mph down the 401 at 3AM in a fully loaded truck and the police wouldn't care

smoky gate
#

i want a detroit 12v71

#

no real reason

carmine summit
#

it'd be neat to have a GMC crackerbox with the gas v12, it's literally 2 GMC V6s stuck together

smoky gate
#

it would probably sit on a testing stand and get started once a year lmao

#

oh cool

civic spoke
smoky gate
#

oh thats interesting lol

civic spoke
#

470 hp in that Police truck.

#

And it's unrestricted.

carmine summit
#

my dad's 1970s Kenworth had 400hp stock and it was unrestricted, it was also modified a bit so it probably had 450hp

civic spoke
#

The big difference between trucks now, and trucks from 40 years ago is how not-terrible they are to the enviroment.

carmine summit
#

that and ride quality

smoky gate
#

and the new ones have boring automatics

carmine summit
#

instead of a FIFTEEN SPEED DOUBLE OVERDRIVE STICKSHIFT

civic spoke
#

My truck is an automated manual.

smoky gate
#

cease

civic spoke
#

Meaning that it's as strong, and long-lasting as a normal manual.

#

But it's automatic.

smoky gate
#

exactly

#

my jeep kk needs a new torque converter badly

#

if im on even a slight hill and i let my foot off the brake it starts to roll down the hill, backwards, while in drive. also on flat ground, in drive, if i let my foot off the brake, it stays still.

civic spoke
#

I have this button I can just press.

#

Or hold the e-brake.

#

Hill hold is something I try to do without most of the time.

#

But it's nice from time to time.

smoky gate
#

nice

#

whats the far right switch do

#

also the one to the right of that

civic spoke
#

The highlighted one?

smoky gate
#

left not right

civic spoke
#

Ahh.

#

Diff locker.

smoky gate
#

far left and the one to the right of the far left

#

oh cool

civic spoke
#

Hence why it has the extra switch-thing on it.

#

So that you don't accidentally press it.

smoky gate
#

oh thats smart

#

what about the one to the right of that

#

with the thing that looks like a deflated tire

civic spoke
#

TC = Traction control

smoky gate
#

i thought so but the tire didnt make sense

civic spoke
#

Third one is something about closing up the exhaust, I think. To heat up shit faster.

smoky gate
#

ah

#

i can close my exhausts too

#

just not supposed to lmao

#

and i dont

#

what other interesting switches are there

civic spoke
#

I can do this. Give me a few.

smoky gate
#

ok

civic spoke
#

Switches for the truck I had back in school.

smoky gate
#

whats the one with the wheel and chain

carmine summit
smoky gate
#

nice

carmine summit
#

That was before he stretched the frame

smoky gate
#

cool

civic spoke
#

@smoky gate Instant snowchains.

smoky gate
#

lmao

#

wait are you being serious?

civic spoke
#

Called onspot.

smoky gate
#

oh

civic spoke
smoky gate
#

oh shit thats wack

#

cars need that

civic spoke
#

Lets see...

civic girder
#

It wouldn't work on cars

#

they are too low and too compact

civic spoke
#

Yeah.

smoky gate
#

suvs i mean

civic spoke
#

You'd need something with a bigger frame.

civic girder
#

even then, SUVs are getting lower and lower

smoky gate
#

true

civic girder
#

and even more compact

smoky gate
#

they arent even suvs anymore

civic spoke
#

I can probably take a picture of the switches in my truck, if I remember it.

civic girder
#

The best you can do for a car is studded tires or traditional chains

smoky gate
#

yeah

civic girder
#

and ofc, full time AWD or manually controlled 4x4

civic spoke
#

Man, looking back on those switches in that Scania make me miss it.

smoky gate
#

yeah i prefer part time 4x4

civic spoke
#

I wonder what companies nearby uses Scanias...

#

Or who knows. I might just be able to apply to the Scania place that's nearby.

#

There's also Volvo and MAN there.

smoky gate
#

theres an international dealership near me

civic spoke
#

Would also not mind a Volvo FH

shrewd finch
#

Alright lasd

#

lads

#

Do people post pics of their own motors in here or is more of a general chat?

dense shard
#

Here could work I imagine.

#

elon musk confirms you can wrap the Cybertruck

#

wow, being able to vinyl wrap a car is now a feature

civic girder
#

this is anything related to cars or otherwise ground based motor vehicles

#

afaik

civic spoke
#

Wrapping the Cybertruck would be easy as well.

#

Since it's all just flat lines.

stoic ledge
#

wow, being able to vinyl wrap a car is now a feature

Oof luckily they confirmed it, otherwise the wrap would just fall off

dense shard
#

I'm sure you could find a way around it.

#

DBrand did find a way to put a wrap on the Switch in the end.

civic spoke
#

It's steel body, right?

#

Should be easy to electro-plate it then...

#

Because who wouldn't want a gold-plated Cyber Truck?

flint sable
#

price, cool, repair costs, probably not..

dense shard
#

Electroplating is freaking brilliant

#

Also bare metal is going to be a pain to keep clean.

#

... inb4 someone polishes a cybertruck to a shine

indigo coral

#

The gold/silver/chrome wrapped ones... Ugly

#

Looks like an anonymized Porsche Cayman.

civic spoke
#

It's the Tesla Roadster V2, is it not?

dense shard
#

yep

civic spoke
#

I call it the V2, because the first one was made long ago. And looked like an EV Lotus.

dense shard
#

Because it was an EV Lotus

#

Tesla basically fitted out a Lotus Elise with a battery pack.

civic spoke
#

I wonder what happened to the Venom F5 car.

#

It's just funny how they hyped that up to become the fastest car in the world.

#

But nothing has really happened.

dense shard
#

Because the issue isn't building the engine or aero.

#

It always boils down to the tires.

civic spoke
#

They don't even have a proper car to show off.

dense shard
#

sucks to be them I suppose

#

For now the top speed wars are over.

civic spoke
#

Yeah. Crown is likely going to Jesko Absolut when they do make a run.

dense shard
#

Bugatti and Konigsegg are both done for the time being.

civic spoke
#

Koenigsegg are done chasing speed after the Jesko.

dense shard
#

yep

civic spoke
#

I don't really like the Hennessey Venom F5 myself.

#

I think the 1,800 hp engine they are using is just a crate engine someone else have made to their specification.

dense shard
#

Reality is that Hennessey already has a pretty bad rep.

#

And if they didn't make their own engine, I'm gonna laugh. That's all they do. Is do engine mods on cars.

stoic ledge
#

whic carmodel and make is this? the pepole that get this right i will like

Not that difficult, is it xD

indigo coral
#

^^

#

Roadster 2020. It's not roadster 2, that was a variant of the OG roadster

civic spoke
#

Can you still call it Roadster 2020 if it isn't a 2020 model?

indigo coral
#

idk

#

It might still come out this year

#

Y is ahead of schedule

civic spoke
#

You say that. But I'm guessing that production has slowed down something crazy within the last two months.

dense shard
#

The Tesla Model Series Roadster

indigo coral
#

yeah idk

dense shard
#

Finally my collection of modern contemporary mail trucks can be started and completed.

#

oh snap! They even have the Promaster.

civic spoke
#

They are changing those cars out, right?

#

I have heard that they are going with EV for their next fleet.

stoic ledge

civic spoke

Did you give it a LS?

stoic ledge

LOL

civic spoke
#

Using power tools to change tires is cheating.

stoic ledge
#

It's also not good for it

civic spoke
#

Used it only to loosen.

stoic ledge
#

Nah, using a lug wrench with an 8 feet handle on it is much better xD

civic spoke
#

Should probably do an oil change on my car. Getting close to 20,000 km's driven since my last one

stoic ledge
#

Oof maybe yes

civic spoke
#

Oil still looks really good.

wet pine
#

Tesla = Apple
Porsche Taycan = Windows/Android
@indigo coral exactly, apple sucks (jk)

civic spoke
#

@stoic ledge Oil is getting to the lower part between the lines of the dip stick. So I might as well do a full oil change.

#

Is what I'm thinking.

#

Running 0W30

stoic ledge
#

Oof it does has a physical dip stick

#

My brothers E91 doesn't have one, only way to measure it is via iDrive

#

Or was, if it wasn't stolen yesterday

civic spoke
#

Yeah, it does.

stoic ledge
civic spoke
#

It's nice being able to physically check the color of the oil.

stoic ledge
#

It was stupid, you had to run the engine quite some time (at idle) to measure it

#

Just to replace a dipstick

civic spoke
stoic ledge

If you find an E91 LCI on Dutch plates, let me know xD

stoic ledge

civic spoke
#

Good options as well.

#

The old 1 series is nice.

#

Small, and still RWD

#

Sad that the new ones are FWD

stoic ledge
#

Hard to find an LCI diesel which isn't the 116d tho, which is dat

#

116d LCI is a 3 cyl, which is a definite no go

#

But yeah, RWD

#

Found a really nice 1er diesel, perfectly specced, in price range... Is it a 3 cyl diesel GWsetmyxPeepoCry

#

But first we need to find out what we'll get back from the insurance company

#

They'll probably value it as a base 318i pre-LCI or whatever, even though it's a fully optioned LCI with rare M Sport package

civic spoke
#

I just checked the date on my summer tires when I changed to them.

#

Made back in 2013. So probably time to have those changed...

stoic ledge
#

Probably, most are due to be replaced at that age

#

Replaced 2011's last year on my parents car, the amount of thread left was fine but the dry cracks etc weren't

#

(2011 car tho, so probably it's first set of wheels in 120k km)

944s are awesome

one of the best Porsches ever made imo

#

50:50 weight distribution

#

there's a reason so many people race them

#

the 944 turbos will outrun much more expensive 911s

civic girder
#

Best Porsche? Interesting. I've always heard the na 944s were trash.

#

Sure they have close to 50:50, but they don't make power

#

When a slowtary of the same era is as fast, or faster, (and for half the cost) then idk how great it really is

#

944 MSRP in the early 80s was $24k USD, meanwhile the Mazda RX-7 of the same era was only $11k USD.

#

Half the price, similar performance

#

I've also heard that 944s are an absolute pita to work on, partially due to the rear transaxle

#

Meanwhile, my FB RX-7 is painfully simple to maintain.

944 is alright not sure if I'd call if the definitive best Porsche

I did say one of, not the

they are great though

#

not the fastest, but power isn't what driving a Porsche is about

they're supposed to be raw sports cars

dense shard
#

It's a perfectly fine 80s car.

#

It's on par with other cars in the class. what makes it special tho are the Germanic prices on repair.

#

And the astounding pain in the ass to do literally any drivetrain work on it. Apparently you have to drop half the car to get at the clutch since it is a rear transaxle unit.

That almost makes too much sense.

dense shard

lol

#

"I'm buying this car... it damn well better last me till my grandkids die of old age."

stoic ledge
#

95% of Subaru buyers are also private buyers, nearly none are company cars

dense shard
#

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

stoic ledge
#

I'd say good, since people trust their hard earned cash to them

#

Too bad 75% of new car sales are company cars

#

So Subaru doesn't move many cars a year

dense shard
#

right

#

So good for perceptions, not great for sales.

stoic ledge
#

Yes

#

Oof 559 cars last year

#

0.12% market share

#

So 1 in every 834 cars was a Subaru

dense shard
#

559... πŸ€” oh right MK is from a small country, the figure doesn't mean anything
.12% market share KEKW oh no they really do have a tiny share

stoic ledge
#

450k cars a year iirc

#

Lemme check

#

450637 in 2019

dense shard
#

Yeah that doesn't paint a pretty picture.

#

Double checked. Subaru in the US is about 4% of the marketshare.

#

680k units moved

stoic ledge
#

Yeah Subaru really needs it from the US

dense shard
#

One of the only automakers to actually grow in the past 20 years.

#

And yeah. Subaru is as American as Honda is these days. They NEED the US.

stoic ledge
#

Although they also sell quite okay in Southern Germany, Austria etc, since they offer 4WD on all models which in great in the mountains

dense shard
#

I imagine so.

stoic ledge
#

Yeah Honda sales are rubbish here too

#

Also, mostly private buyers

#

Again

dense shard
#

Good for perception, not great for overall sales. yeah

#

Then again I'd call private sales a victory.

#

At least in the US where automakers try to avoid fleet sales. Toyota gets away with it somehow. lol

stoic ledge
#

Honda has 3 Times the market share of Subaru Pogey

dense shard
#

wow... .36%? KEKW

stoic ledge
#

.34% actually

dense shard
#

damn, almost

#

okay okay... I'm gonna guess now

#

Largest market share is... Toyota or Opel

stoic ledge
#

But tbh, I think there's more profit in private cars sold than company cars

#

No, VW πŸ’©

dense shard
#

oh wait... VW?

stoic ledge
#

Opel second

#

Tesla 3rd last year with all the free Model 3's

#

Peugeot 4th

#

Toyota 5th

dense shard
#

I wasn't expecting Toyota to do so poorly.

#

Radically different sales uhhhh... environment from the US.

stoic ledge
#

6.02% market share isn't poorly tho

#

Best selling car was the Aygo

#

1/3rd of Toyota's marker share

dense shard
#

tiny car

#

Well relatively tiny

stoic ledge
#

Yup

#

Very tiny

#

Not relatively, it's just small xD

dense shard
#

My views are skewed since I owned a kei car for a few years.

#

(only 2 with a few months, but still)

stoic ledge
#

Tesla 2019: #3 brand
Tesla Model 3 2019: #1 car

2020: #25 brand, #78 car

#

Don't think it's much larger than a Kei car tbh

dense shard
#

Now I'm curious.

stoic ledge
#

Length 3,455Β mm (136.0Β in)

dense shard
#

It's a great looking car.

stoic ledge
#

Kei car max 3.4m

dense shard
#

Almost the same size

#

... close enough.

stoic ledge
#

Yeah, but lower

dense shard
#

Okay so as you were saying. The Toyota Aygo is tiny.

stoic ledge
#

Yes

#

xD

#

Also made in an alliance with Peugeot and Citroen

#

Selling the same car 3 times == cheaper

#

Although for some reason, the taillights have a different shape so the body panels are actually completely different

#

I never understood why

#

Changing plastic bumpers and headlights, that's cheap. But basically the entire metal body, that's strange

#

Like, they build the same car to cut costs... Only to make the main structure completely different πŸ˜›

#

To safe costs, they even made the trunk lid of glass only, just metal. Only the to make 2 different versions of it xD

dense shard
#

oh I see the similarity.

#

The doors are sort of the same.

stoic ledge
#

Front ones are identical

#

Rear is different indeed

dense shard
#

Front fender also looks the same.

#

Doors have the same glass it looks like

stoic ledge
#

Rear door sheet medal is different

#

And the taillight shape, which means the entire side panel of the car is too

dense shard
#

yeah

stoic ledge
#

But fender/bumper is cheap to replace, so I get that

#

Just the rear light situation is kinda strange

#

They were also very, very, vary barebones

dense shard
#

rear sheet metal isn't that radically different.

#

Same mounting points for the hatch

stoic ledge
#

Yeah no just the side part

#

When you had power windows, you only had a control for the window on your side lol

stoic ledge
#

Yeah that's the second gen (based on the first gen), much better

#

Peugeot/Citroen identical besides front, Aygo front and rear different

#

(it are the 3 in the front of the picture)

#

"convertible"

fathom socket
#

id say that counts as a convertible

#

looks kinda bland in black at least in pics

dense shard
#

That's being very generous to the definition of convertible.

#

That's an oversized sunroof.

stoic ledge
#

It basically is, yes

stoic ledge
#

@austere tusk the Yaris has nothing in common with the C1/108/107 xD

#

1.0 was Toyota, 1.4D and 1.2 VTi was Peugeot/PSA

Most components are from Toyota btw, not much is from PSA

Is it the production model, or a concept?

Toyota concepts are just production cars with larger wheels.

Same for Honda.

it aint a mustang

an electric crossover isn't a mustang

stoic ledge

I think it looks odd from the rear

dense shard

sure, but divorce the name from the car.

#

The car stands on it's own style wise.

indigo coral
#

then its fine i suppose

stoic ledge
#

Front is fine

indigo coral
#

but they just copied tesla for the interior, which is disappointing

stoic ledge
#

I'd just call it Mach-E

indigo coral
#

honestly the mach e is what the model y should have been

#

instead of a rebadged model 3

dense shard
#

I'd say it's more than a rebadged 3.

indigo coral
#

ok a slightly taller model 3

#

with more plastic cladding to make it look like a contemporary crossover

stoic ledge
#

Imagine using it as a 7 seater

dense shard
#

I'm a fan of the more angular styling.

#

And certainly a fan of an actual instrument cluster.

indigo coral
#

I'll be interested to see if the 3rd row is even remotely usable

#

I know it's absolutely not in the RX350L

dense shard
#

3rd row is never usable in anything outside of a minivan.

#

Or a large SUV.

stoic ledge
#

Imagine being able to purchase a non-hybrid Lexus

indigo coral
#

I sat in one, with the 2nd row touching the first row it was unusable

dense shard
#

Tesla Model S 3rd row was for small kids.

indigo coral
#

much less with the 2nd row in a normal place

#

The 3rd row is usable in our Explorer

#

a mid size suv

dense shard
#

Mustang Mach E will be the same assuming anyone actually specs it.

indigo coral
#

i don't think the mach e will have a 3rd row

#

we're talking about the Model Y

stoic ledge
#

^

dense shard
#

Oh the Model Y has a 3rd row?

indigo coral
#

as an optoin yes

stoic ledge
#

Will get one yes

#

As an option ^^

indigo coral

the one in the model x is actually okay

#

iirc

dense shard
#

For like... people who didn't survive the French Revolution... or like human beings with heads?

indigo coral
#

idk

stoic ledge
#

Yes

indigo coral
#

The one in our explorer is usable, even for me (bit small), but you don't have a ton of cargo space with the 3rd row up

#

thing about our explorer is that its "technically" a 7 seater, but in practice its only 6 seats

#

2,2,2 instead of 2,3,2

dense shard
#

Remember when the Rogue had 3 row seats?

indigo coral
#

i don't

stoic ledge
#

X-Trail, yes

dense shard
#

For only 2 years.

indigo coral
#

how small was it

stoic ledge
#

My parents old Peugeot could be gotten with a 3rd row

dense shard

Looking at my family's Rogue... it must have been painfully small.

stoic ledge
#

Also: yes, you could get a green cloth interior

#

πŸ‘€

#

Looks like fun

dense shard
#

If you are 5, maybe.

#

That option died so fast

#

There was also a hybrid trim

stoic ledge

Hmmmm we never got it as a hybrid

Also discontinued. Supposedly used Toyota's system.

indigo coral

As long as you use synthetic, yes

fathom socket
#

Mine is the exact opposite of reliable lmao

indigo coral
#

the car loves to make sludge with dino oil

#

People who stretched there intervals, a few had the motor die at 50k miles

#

and used basic dino oil*

fathom socket
#

Well that's where ignorance gets people tbh

indigo coral
#

If you change it often enough, and if you use synth, its a good motor

#

I had to do valve cover gaskets recently, and it was really clean inside. No sludge.

fathom socket
#

That's how almost every engine is though honestly

indigo coral
#

pain in teh ass might I add xD

fathom socket
#

I'd bet I had to do it on my neighbor's Kia minivan

#

There was no working room

indigo coral

on mine the whole intake manifold has to come off

as well as the throttle system

and the airbox and stuff

#

and the battery

xD

fathom socket

Yeah my whole engine has to come out

indigo coral
#

O.O

#

Ok well I guess I don't have it that bad 🀣

fathom socket
#

Front mid-engine

indigo coral
#

Mine's got a tiny rear main leak

#

and I frankly don't care enough

#

to drop the motor to fix it

fathom socket
#

Understandable

indigo coral
#

It's tiny.

#

Like the only reason we know its there is because we were all underneath it disassembling stuff to do valve covers

#

lol

fathom socket
#

I just set my Rx8 with an SOHN adapter so I can have my oil meter pump use fresh 2-stroke as opposed to dirty 4-stroke oil and I still premix my fuel just to be safe

fathom socket

Ah a bigger v6

indigo coral
#

Mines 220hp, that one is 270, but has a fair bit more torque and a way better transmission

fathom socket
#

Close enough lol

indigo coral
#

oof his 07 is only at 51k miles

fathom socket
#

Mine's got about 250hp and 159 ft-lbs of torque

indigo coral
#

He's got a 01 RAM 1500 cummins that's only at 21k miles

#

aka its brand new

fathom socket
#

Holy

#

Basically mint

indigo coral
#

yep

#

virtually no miles on it

#

those cummins will last forever anyways

fathom socket
#

I have 155k

indigo coral
#

I'm at 136k (maybe 137 now)

#

which isn't bad for a 21 year old car

fathom socket
#

Plan on putting another 100k before I put in another engine

#

But knowing how unreliable the Renesis engine is I'd be lucky to get 60k

indigo coral
#

Lol

fathom socket
#

I bought it for like $900 in no start condition back in '15 all I did was put in a new starter and she barked to life

indigo coral
#

oh nice

fathom socket
#

Then I blew the motor 4 years later

indigo coral
#

My motor has some sort of gremlin that appears to wake up every 6 months on the money then piss off again xD

#

I've yet to figure out wtf it is

fathom socket
#

Lol

indigo coral
#

It sounds like rod knock

#

but rod knock cant come and go

#

if youve got rod knock, you've got rod knock

fathom socket
#

Luckily I only have to worry about $200 worth of seals

indigo coral
#

sounds like an old diesel tractor

fathom socket
#

And 24 hours worth of labor

indigo coral
#

that's happened twice. Exactly 6 months apart, and the same issue each time.

#

then it buggers off and runs great

fathom socket
#

It could be carbon deposits

indigo coral
#

Yes, both times it had oil.

fathom socket
#

But I'm not a piston engine mechanic so...

indigo coral
#

Hmm... wouldn't that manifest itself all the time though?

#

see I'm completely stumped, so is my dad and grandfather 🀣

fathom socket
#

Depends on many factors really

indigo coral
#

that time it had been sitting for a few days

fathom socket
#

Could be timing which is unlikely

indigo coral
#

but the second time, I was driving it then stopped at a stop sign and it started bouncing revs all over the place and shuddering

#

so I pulled olff into a parking lot, turned it off, restarted it and it did that noise

fathom socket
#

Sounds like an issue with your compression

indigo coral
#

So I called my dad, he came over in abt 20 mins and took a look, it did it then too

#

then we turned it off again

#

and turned it back on

#

and the f**king thing was fixed

fathom socket
#

Could be your maf sensor, throttle body...etc

indigo coral
#

neither time it threw any code

#

I've had 2 CELs, both for the same irrelevant thing

#

and unrelated to said problem^

fathom socket
#

90's tech isn't really the best at detecting issues though

indigo coral
#

both times it was an evap code, it went out of spec for like just a second and triggers it, then I clear it and its gone for a long time

#

yeah idk

#

I know it detects issues with MAF

fathom socket
#

My 2004 has some 90's tech because Mazda decided to cheap out on a few things

indigo coral
#

because people have posted about limp mode from MAF

#

where it locks out OD for some reason

#

well "overdrive" in big air quotes because it's really not

#

top gear is still like 1.1:1

fathom socket
#

Some evap codes could also cause issues with the airflow in the engine

#

A good example is O2 sensors or Catalytic converters

#

If those mess up your engine could run too rich, too lean, not at all or sound like it's knocking

indigo coral
#

hmm, maybe. I have a bit of an exhaust leak

#

(The gasket thing after the flex pipe needs replacing)

fathom socket
#

The little exhaust donut that connects the headers to the mid pipe?

indigo coral
#

it only makes noise under engine load tho (not rpm, load)

#

Yes, I have video

#

Turn down volume

#

Ear warning

#

you can see it come out

fathom socket
#

Yeah that's right in between the cat and mid pipe

indigo coral
#

ye

#

Cheap to fix, just a pain

fathom socket
#

I feel that

#

My car has a ground clearance of like, 6 maybe 7 inches?

indigo coral
#

i'd put money on those bolts being hella seized in there

fathom socket
#

Oh definitely

#

Gonna have to take a blow torch to them

indigo coral
#

at the very least there's no rust on the car

#

yay for living in a non-snow area xD

fathom socket
#

Lucky you lol

indigo coral
#

we have rain but rarely do we ever get snow

fathom socket
#

Mine has a rust spot developing on the driver side skirt

#

Which I would fix but I don't feel like it's a good idea to leave the house for something that's not groceries right now

indigo coral
#

where do you live?

fathom socket
#

indigo coral
#

ye, which state

#

just curious cause coronavirus

fathom socket
#

Not a safe state I can tell you that

indigo coral
#

oh boy

#

#

fathom socket

We had the coast guard escorting us home if we didn't have a good excuse to be outside

indigo coral
#

only minor increase, mostly level off

#

OOF

#

here they have a "stay at home order" but its not enforced

#

mostly just social distancing + closures of nonessential buisness

fathom socket
#

In other news I will get that rust spot before it gets too bad

#

Because I dont feel like having to chop off the whole skirt and weld on a new one

indigo coral

an intercooler won't reduce lag but you can gain power because the cold air is more dense

if you just have a stock engine though a water injection kit might be better, you'll gain power and it can sometimes help reduce turbo lag, and you don't have to wait for water to spool
