Apparently, other than the virus, two oil companies are in a price war, seeing who can go lower

civic girder
#

I think Russia and Saudi Arabia (or one of the other middle eastern oil power houses) got into an argument about how to compensate for the lower demand for oil caused by the pandemic

#

they couldn't agree so Saudi Arabia (or whatever other country it is) just ramped up production to drop prices instead

That's the best VW ever made tho Pogey

#

He should have bought it with a bumper-to-bumper warranty

civic spoke
#

The Phaeton is a great car.

stoic ledge
#

It was developed to amazingly high standards

#

And tbh, most things which went wrong with his Phaeton was mostly regular maintenance... But the parts were just expensive af

#

Which is kinda understandable, since it's a low-production, rare VW with a W12 engine xD

#

Parts for the suspension and brakes were Phaeton exclusive

civic spoke
#

It's the whole "just because you can afford to buy it, doesn't mean that you can afford to own it."

stoic ledge
#

^ that's exactly what you see when luxury cars get older (A8/7er/S-Class)

civic spoke
#

Yupp.

stoic ledge
#

You can get a nice looking example of thoss for a couple grand... But the next service you spend nore than that

#

So they can't afford it, but just sell it, it doesn't get fixed, the car is neglected, and it only goes downhill from there

#

It's not unusual to find a 7er of A8 with 20+ previous owners xD

#

Ok so I found a BMW 7er with many owners, the ownership looks like this:

  • 1st owner: 1 year
  • 2nd owner: 3 years
  • 3rd owner: 1 year
  • 4rd owner: 4 days, traded it in at a shop
  • 5th owner: 2 months, traded it in at a shop
  • 6th owner: 4 days
  • 7th owner: 1 month 4 days, traded it in at a shop
  • 8th owner: 1 (!) day
  • 9th owner: 4.5 months, traded it in at a shop
  • 10th owner: 6 years
  • 11th owner: 3 years
  • 12th owner: 8 months
  • 13th owner: 19 days
  • 14th owner: 2 months, up for sale now

(including shops, there has been 32 owners)

You can kinda see the faith of this car... After ± 5 years, a lot broke so it just kept trading hands, a shop then must have bought it extremely cheap and fixed it, so the next owner actually quite a long time. After that, it only went down hill again, and now it's for sale with a CEL on

Corsa-e or e-208 are nice too

The Honda e looks premium.

shrewd shell
#

@civic spoke Im a big BMW fan but the i3 is actually bad

dense shard
#

Is it?

shrewd shell
#

Low range, ugly design, bad performance, and overpriced

dense shard
#

It's a city car.

shrewd shell
#

The design could be good for some people but thats just my opinion

dense shard
#

That's designed to be efficient.

#

And all BMWs are overpriced.

#

I'd say the i3 was a future that BMW missed out on.

shrewd shell
#

My friends family had an i3, broke down very often for some reason

dense shard
#

It's a German car.

#

Those aren't known to be rock solid reliable, or even durable.

shrewd shell
#

Yeah they don't last, but the i3 broke down without even owning for more than 1 year and only 13k miles

dense shard
#

Especially those made in the 21st century.

#

Maybe they had a lemon.

shrewd shell
#

Not sure, I remember the 1 hour drive we went on to the amusement park, his family took the i3 and it broke down on the way back home lol

#

They've had more issues afterwards too

#

They ended up returning the lease early

dense shard
#

oof

#

Still I stand by it.

#

It's essentially the only modern BMW I'd want to own. That or the i8.

shrewd shell
#

There are way better options, its not like the interior or quality is something to brag about

#

imo

#

One of my relatives had the BMW i8, it was returned a couple of months ago because the lease ended

#

He is leasing the BMW M8 Competition now lol

#

The i8 started giving problems towards the end of the lease

dense shard
#

classic

#

I imagine the M8 will as well.

#

Modern turbo performance cars apparently are horrible with heat management.

shrewd shell
#

I drove the i8 a couple of times and once the engine didn't want to turn while I was going up a hill so the car started rolling backwards because the electric motors weren't powerful enough or something

#

Yeah probably

dense shard
#

BMW, Mercedes, Audi being the biggest offenders.

shrewd shell
#

That's why my family leases cars

dense shard
#

My family buys Japanese.

shrewd shell
#

And that also makes sense, that's why Japanese cars last

#

My friend bought a Lexus 350 F Sport, he wants to do some basic mods and stuff too it

#

I'd imagine that car would last, its a naturally aspirated six cylinder

dense shard
#

NA is critically underrated.

shrewd shell
#

Its because they aren't as powerful has a turbo or supercharged car

crisp flicker
#

forced induction. 😄

shrewd shell
#

His car makes 300ish HP, my 4 Cylinder BMW makes 290 HP although I do have an ECU tune, normally it would be 250 HP

#

Mercedes has 4 Cylinder engine that makes 370 HP... Lol... Its fast but I don't think that the car would last very long

#

hello, resident slow bmw owner here

normal temple

oh

yes

That's unrelated to German cars... tho I do include them.

Tbh considering getting a used i8 coming out of collage although that is far in the future, they’re already deprecating a lot, they get like 134 miles to the gallon, they have four seats meaning insurance is slightly less expensive, and it’s the best looking new bmw imo because the grill isn’t massive

the policy of disabling rebuilt cars. I have no issue with disabilng supercharging, it is their network after all, but now they disable ALL fast charging, tesla network or not. They also have stated they'll press charges if you start poking around in software or repair things yourself. Additionally, the people who paid up to 12k USD to get their car recertified and have supercharging reenabled (program is dead now btw) don't get to keep it either, they wasted their money and its disabled again

Fair, but on the other hand, microsoft isn't going to come sue me because I mess around with windows and build my own extensions
