not a bad car, at least you have a lot of space in there

indigo coral
#

Yeah

#

It's slow, but hey it was a free car

boreal rose
#

my daily driver is a VW Polo 5, i cant fit anything in there basically

#

free cars are always great

#

even my 1992 honda concerto was bigger, and had better features

indigo coral
#

I've fit two flat screens + a whole crapload of Costco groceries & 3 people into mine

boreal rose
#

i went on a 2 week road trip with mine, + 1 person and like, a tent, table, and basically everything you need to be comfortable for 2 weeks

#

but then the head gasket blew the first time, got it fixed, blew again after 4k km, and now i have the VW

i think i'm just gonna buy a completely new engine for the honda tbh

I had to do valve cover gasket on mine recently, that was a pain in the arse

it indeed is a civic engine, but in a not very civic looking car

#

I had a Honda push mower from 1993

boreal rose
#

yeah, i have one lawnmower engine and one scooter engine lying around, but i have other plans with those

fathom socket
#

It kept going until last year

#

When I didn't wanna do new rings

#

It faithfully mowed my lawn for many years

#

And, there was never a time when I had to pull the cord twice

#

It started first pull everytime

#

Even when I stored it over winter with stale fuel

boreal rose

2 or 4 stroke?

fathom socket
#

4 stroke

boreal rose
#

ok, thats understandable then

#

i have a 1981 zΓΌndapp moped, i have to pedal it for about a kilometer before it even starts running on its own

fathom socket
#

I'm sure that if I replaced the rings in it, it would keep going

boreal rose
#

oh, so busted rings?

#

Yeah

#

I now have a new AWD Husqvarna 160 CC Honda mower

boreal rose

oh very nice

also quite fun to use

model 3 much...

civic spoke
#

What? The model 3 doesn't have a screen on the steering wheel.

dense shard
#

Instrument cluster is nice.

serene jetty
#

I despise most modern interiors

#

they are too empty

#

and all these screens make it look like that tablets were lazily glued to the dash instead of actually being part of the design

#

modern interior design is fucking horrid

indigo coral
#

I don't mind stuck on screens tbh

#

It usually looks better than forcing them into the dash

#

And they're more accessible this way

#

There's a few bad ones ( new explorer )

#

But like the one in the Model 3 looks and works fa better than the one i. The model s

serene jetty
#

I also think that a physical spedometer/tachometer working together with digital screens looks far nicer

#

like a hybrid display system

#

all digital imo looks too flat, empty and lazy

indigo coral
#

Genesis G70 has that

#

Tho the screen is smol

#

I don't like digital clusters most of the time tbh

#

Tesla one is ok but like the new bmw one is horrid

serene jetty
#

but like I hate how basic manufacturers are making dashes and their displays

#

and how cheap and basic the interiors look

#

I hate this floating display shit, looks like glued tablets to a dash

indigo coral
serene jetty
#

and the other alternative being a screen coming out of the dash but morphed into it looks yuck too

#

it looks like a tablet in a hub

indigo coral
serene jetty
#

that dash looks good except that main screen

dense shard
#

I hate integrated instrument panels on the nav screen.

serene jetty
#

I hate how far up it comes out

indigo coral
#

I don't mind screens in cars but I'm in the huge minority

#

The point of that is so you don't have to look as far away from the road

dense shard
#

Honestly the height of the nav screens hasn't been an issue for me.

indigo coral
#

tho in the g70 most everything has physical contrs

#

Climate, radio, etc

serene jetty
#

If I was left in a room with no responsibilities for a week, I could design a fucking way better dashboard than 90% of automakers today

Can you make it to fit within a budget and preexisting parts bin?

serene jetty

probably

indigo coral

Superr weird screen

serene jetty

its a bit dated

but the overall layout imo perfect

dense shard
#

It's alright, but I've always found the Germans to be a bit staid and generic.

indigo coral

Ngl I 100% prefer the stuck on screen to the ones that are super set in

serene jetty
#

germans usually like to keep to what they know will work and focus on keeping build quality high

dense shard
#

I'll stick to Japanese.

#

Quality, practicality, and durability.

serene jetty
#

I love japanese cars

but Euro cars imo had a slightly superior build quality until about 2010

dense shard

I disagree.

then again all aussie corollas are just the japanese models

civic spoke

I love the E46 interior.

dense shard
#

My car is a Japanese model.

civic spoke

But I might be partial.

dense shard
#

Or rather built in Japan.

serene jetty
#

no but the literal exact same as the car sold in japan, RHD and all

#

USDM corollas would have slight differences

#

and LHD

dense shard
#

The styling will be identical between JDM and USDM.

#

Only real difference on styling is the front emblem.

serene jetty
#

some models of Jap cars get horrific different styling for the US market

like wtf why

dense shard

The Japanese companies put the effort in to cater to local markets.

There's the issue Bomb.

#

BMW hasn't changed that much in years.

stoic ledge

serene jetty

also the new kluger looks horrid compared to its predecessor

I'm not a massive fan of the new 'rolla front end, but I'd hardly call it ugly.

also in aus LS engines are everywhere and cheap af EXDEE

blame GM for not fucking advertising it at all or offering the Ute or Wagon or any good trim levels

serene jetty

all GM did was brought the most basic ass V6 and V8 sedans and were dumbfounded

dense shard
#

The trim the fans wanted.

serene jetty
#

lmao we had far better trims in aus

#

way way better than what the US had

dense shard
#

okay, and what makes you think anyone in the US would want it?

#

A Chevy for 70k?

serene jetty
#

A Good Chevy for 70k

dense shard
#

Still a Chevy.

#

I can get a BMW for that price.

serene jetty
#

because its 100% a holden and not a chevy

dense shard
#

That's still a GM car.

serene jetty
dense shard
#

That uses GM parts bin.

serene jetty
dense shard
#

People would rather buy a 70k Chevy Tahoe.

#

Or a nice Silverado.

serene jetty
#

I guess that explains why people are importing commodores to the USA and making LHD commodores to Australian spec

dense shard
#

That's news to me.

serene jetty
#

and rebadging SSes and G8s with holden bumpers and badges

#

some people importing utes and wagons

dense shard
#

Only if they're 25 years or older.

serene jetty
#

nope

dense shard
#

I guarantee you those people are far fewer in number.

serene jetty
#

people import the VE and VF gen utes and wagons and put the bodies on a G8/SS chassis

dense shard
#

uhhhh

serene jetty
#

making it still technically a G8 or SS

indigo coral
#

Chevy has a pretty poor reputation here tbh

dense shard
#

That's not how it works.

serene jetty
#

its how everyone is doing it

#

look it up

dense shard

That's illegal in that case.

serene jetty
#

yes you can lmao9

dense shard
#

#

No you can't.

indigo coral
#

no you can't

dense shard
#

Trust us.

serene jetty
#

racing

dense shard
#

US laws are notorious.

serene jetty
#

show

dense shard
#

Racing, show is NOT road legal.

indigo coral
#

Show and display is very limited mileage

#

And very select cars

serene jetty
#

the chassis, engine and such are all still a G8 or SS

indigo coral
#

Some shitty wagon isn't going to qualify

serene jetty
#

the only difference is ths Australian body

dense shard
#

The chassis is unibody

#

You can't swap bodies without swapping VINs.

#

And that stupid illegal.

indigo coral
#

^^^^

serene jetty
#

there is no vin swap

#

also this vid explains it all

dense shard
#

Then tl;dr it for us.

indigo coral
#

You don't seem to understand US law tbh.

serene jetty
#

Indiana has a thing called state of body transfer

#

which allows a new vin to be applied to a car

#

which has had a body transfer

#

essentially a retitle

dense shard
#

That's one state.

serene jetty
dense shard
#

And importing, and transferring hardware to another car is difficult, legally sketchy, and then you have issues of registration and insurance.

#

Great, show us a few thousand.

#

And I'll admit it's common place.

#

Cause I've seen more Skylines in the US.

serene jetty
#
#

he imports the aus commodores as parts cars

dense shard
#

That's not the same as road legal.

serene jetty
#

the aus cars were never meant to be driven on the roads as is

indigo coral
#

and this is all VERY sketchy

dense shard
#

...

serene jetty
#

they use the aus cars as parts cars for their bodies and interior parts to put on a G8/SS

dense shard
#

You can't use the bodies.

serene jetty
#

thats how he bloody does it though

dense shard
#

They're unibody. You would be literally VIN swapping, and that's literally illegal.

serene jetty
#

also VINs are still intact

dense shard
#

VINwiki story took a very shady route.

#

If it has a AUS vin, it can't be registered to US roads.

#

Unless it is 25 years or older.

#

Or has been federalized.

serene jetty
#

there are several cars in the US and were sold in the US with aus vins

#

there are USDM spec cars were made in aus

dense shard
#

Because they were likely federalized.

#

right

#

USDM spec

#

You can't sell ADM spec cars in the US.

#

Different standards.

serene jetty
#

AUDM

dense shard
#

whatever

serene jetty
#

also the US G8/SS vin remains

dense shard
#

And those are mean for G8s and SS.

#

Not for utes

serene jetty
#

look idk but somehow there are loopholes and shit and several people have done this

#

and there are holden utes and wagons in the US

#

which are road legal with clean titles

#

so somehow they are doing it

#

and obviously there must be vins of the original G8/SS still intact

dense shard
#

That's so sketchy.

serene jetty
#

well its reality and its done there

dense shard
#

You can either rebuild the car from the frame up.

#

Including rewelding parts.

#

That is incredibly high effort.

serene jetty
dense shard
#

yes I see Acuras with Honda badges here all the time.

#

I can put JDM badges on my car as well.

serene jetty
dense shard
#

That's over 25 years old.

serene jetty
#

im moving on from just commodores now

#

holden in general

dense shard
#

Indiana's laws are lax it seems.

serene jetty
#

yes they are

dense shard
#

Not meant for this.

serene jetty
#

but its used for it

dense shard
#

Likely mean for conversion vans.

#

So to legalize a Ute in the US. You must have a preexisting car on the same platform, pay a guy to rebuild it from essentially the ground up, and then happen to be living in Indiana.

#

That's not exactly easy, cheap, or fast.

serene jetty
dense shard
#

People with money to burn.

#

Good for them.

serene jetty
dense shard
#

Yes I'm not denying the exist.

#

I'm just denying they're all that popular.

#

I haven't seen any in the Southeast... ever.

serene jetty

in the SS/G8/GTO communities, Holden is king

#

seeing as they are just Holdens

dense shard
#

Okay.

#

I'm part of Toyota communities because I own a Corolla.

#

It's amusing to see how popular the new Corolla hatch is.

#

Yet I don't really see em in my area.

#

I'm just not a huge fan of GM or Ford these days.

#

Or Chrysler.

#

Because all three have made terrible business decisions recently I feel.

Including abandoning a huge slice of the market despite finally having competitive products.

Mmm.... if I could get this injection molded, or get some silicone so I can make mold and then make it out of resin, I'd go for this design.

But looking at the preview for the print, it's gonna take almost 10 hours, and will likely be flimsy.
