when I got the car, .5 quart every 1k or so
then next change it was less
and less again
maybe it likes you cause you treat it correctly
then it started leaking from vcg fairly significantly, so then it went back up ofc.
now that's fixed and ive not had to add any
since I changed it
The RX likes you
except for the god damn ghost
the car wants to like me, the ghost is a pain in the ass
that's because it still has some rebellious teen in there
you'd think it outgrow it at this age, but
well the frontal lobe isnt fully developed into your 20s or something
and its only 21
xD
my car is legal to drink
lmao
(and I'm not even 18 lul)
the RX-7 never had alcohol until I got her (alcohol = 2 stroke)
If there was ever an "alcoholic" car, it's a rotary
tho, throughout its lifespan, my car has only averaged 6300 miles a year
133k and 21 years old
thats not too bad
yea, that's actually pretty low tbh
idk what the Prius averaged yearly, but I know that my dad's commute was like 21 miles one way
Mine avg 7000 miles a year
9k/yr
so if we're going by production year, my car is 22
then
its a 99 MY but was one of the very first of the rx300 so it was made in 98
Yea. The Prius is a 09 model year, but my dad got it in like August of 08
The RX-7 is an 83 model year, but is technically an 82 cause it was manufactured mid-december of 82
one quirk of my RX that decries the very-early-productionness of it, is that the heated seats is a rocker between driver, or both. Part way thru 99 they changed that. Also, the passenger seat doesn't have lumbar adjustment, That was changed as well.
also desert bronze metallic was only offered for a couple months in 99
so yes
old
(my car is a boomer)
lol
Cause it's probably almost as old as me, maybe slightly older
I was born in 98
it was produced in the latter half of 98 I'm fairly sure
so was I
Seems like the ones to have are either the 99, 00 or 2003
for the rx300
the 2001 and 2002 were bad
oof
people say the trans failures were most common on the 99, but thats not quite correct. The 99 had a different failure
lol
the 01 and 02 had too big of an ATF pump so it got real hot and burned the f*ck out of the fluid
Someday I think it would be cool to get a first gen Prius. Aka Toyota Echo Hybrid
I see a surprising amount of Toyota Echos in really good condition
Echos are the Toyota E G G
I saw one and actually talked to the guy, he had it since new, it had PPF on it and everything
they are pretty cool
literally like flawless condition
damn
don't blame him
Echos are nice
hell, I'd probably replace the motor in the Prius if I have to to keep it
ppf is really expensive though
otherwise I'd do it on my RX
once I get it paint corrected at some point
the frame and chassis is rust-free, and the interior is basically like new
( i live in the northwest, lol. we rarely get snow and even more rarely get salted roads)
and my dad dailyed it until about 4 years ago
yea, we get snow and salt every now and then
most of the wear is like on the seat by the door where you get in and out
and whatnot
it does help that it was in Oklahoma for a couple years of its life
its not really cracks in the leather, more just kinda wear area
my driver's and passenger floor mats are fucked beyond belief
but the carpet underneath them is perfect
mine spent a few years in Utah but the vast majority of its life in the Pacific Northwest, aka the land of much rain but no road salt
actually, maybe it didn't spend much time in utah
the guy we got it from got it at 33k miles in 03
Meanwhile, the RX-7 is clean AS FUCK, considering it's age, mileage, and that it's been in Ohio its entire life
62,591 in modern dollars
then again, an optioned new RX will run you 75k
so I guess thats kind of in line
then again, my dad's (soon to be my brother's) 2010 Lexus HS250h has 99k miles. Originally cost $42k back then. Guy we got it from bought it for $23k in 2013. We got it for $8k
the HS250 was despised by the US market
hardly any sold across all 4 years
a professor at my school drives one
and as you can see, 10 years later, the HS250 depreciated hard
lmao
(360 modena, not a crazy 488 or anything)
well the F430 is sub 100k now
oof
but yeah he's a cool dude
yea, I bet
hes hilarious too, I've had him for a number of classes
fat scottish dude (literally, moved from scotland like... 4 years ago)
so he's got the accent and everything
absolutely hilarious
damn
lmao
like the dead engineer story ๐
๐
this isn't one of his originals but here
An engineer dies and reports to the pearly gates. St. Peter checks his dossier and says, "Ah, youre an engineer -- youre in the wrong place."
So the engineer reports to the gates of hell and is let in. Pretty soon, the engineer gets dissatisfied with the level of comfort in hell, and starts designing and building improvements. After a while, they`ve got air conditioning and flush toilets and escalators, and the engineer is a pretty popular guy.
One day God calls Satan up on the telephone and says with a sneer, "So, hows it going down there in hell?" Satan replies, "Hey, things are going great. Weve got air conditioning and flush toilets and escalators, and there`s no telling what this engineer is going to come up with next."
God replies, "What??? Youve got an engineer? Thats a mistake -- he should never have gotten down there; send him up here."
Satan says, "No way. I like having an engineer on the staff, and I`m keeping him."
God says, "Send him back up here or I`ll sue."
Satan laughs uproariously and answers, "Yeah, right. And just where are YOU going to get a lawyer?"
I've seen a replica Hurbie Beetle in the staff lot at my school before
My car's oil is fine.
yea, figured
oh? she?
oh shit, she's brand new
does she have a name?
Metis
me not naming cars
I just assign genders
there's actually kiinda a story
its got one of those hilariously 90s power antennas
If I'd gone for a Mazda, it would have been Titania.
when I got the car, a little rock was stuck in there so it would squeek sometimes.
my 80s power antenna is fucked
now, I was getting in one day and it sounded for all the world like moaning myrtle from harry potter
so yeah
myrtle
but also because its a cranky old ladys name, and thats how that car acts sometimes.
it doesn't work (or at least I couldn't get it to work when I wired in the new radio), so I left the antenna mast up most of the time
mine works quite well (surprisingly)
forgot about it and went through a car wash cause I needed to get road salt off my undercarraige
the antenna mast is snapped in half
Metis. Ancient Greek goddess. Zeus' first wife. Supposedly too clever for her own good.
it's crossed my mind to pull the fuse for the motor while it's up though, I never ever go to car washes and idk what else i'd need it down for
ok well my story is stupid compared to your greek god references
lol
I go to car washes only when there's road salt and the RX-7 has to get driven for some other reason
Look at it like this. I named my Suzuki, Ophelia.
so the two times it's snowed and I've been stuck driving the RX-7
honestly
Because the insurance guy went on for about 10 minutes on what I can do with my car and water.
idk if I'd name a G70/Stinger/Model 3
they 100% would not have as much of a personality as my RX
Model 3 is too androgynous to name imo.
a Model 3 would probably just be the tesla
I don't really feel like a name is necessary. I only have one of whatever model, so I don't need to differentiate
I want to drive the G70/Stinger
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/ENe2owiXYAAtvxn?format=jpg&name=4096x4096 I didn't get what was wrong here until I realized that was a buick badge on a TESLA.
the RX-7 is "the Mazda" when referenced by my family
but our local kia dealer requires you to sign paperwork before you can drive the car, and we don't have a genesis dealer
like you have to buy the car before htey let you test drive it
lmao
which is the problem with trying to test drive a car from a dealer where that's their halo model
(mostly)
the k900 isn't really... a competitor.
I bet the G70 would be hella fun to drive
the model 3 is fun but kinda sterile
G70 is probably better than the Stinger
I really hope the Sony car makes it to production.
and I'd want the performance model, cause the LR RWD (which I drove) is quick, but not quick enough to overcome the sterile-feeling
I've ridden in the performance 3, and its bonkers quick
I like slow
not in a tesla that feels like driving ... nothing much
fast is too much for me. Not cause I can't handle it, but because I dislike it
you'd hate a tesla
lol
you drive a rotary lol
yea, I bet
The anti-torque.
lmao, yea
the G70/Stinger is less quick than a Model 3 Performance (also way cheaper) but they have the benefit of actually being engaging in a way the tesla isn't
2500rpm in first gear to start on a moderate slope
and I can tell you that without driving them
engine/trans just makes it feel more active
though
vibration/noise helps
I'll gladly trade speed for fun.
rotaries don't vibrate or shake, but they make a lot of noise
(then again the ZF 8HP is a GREAT trans)
oh yea, for me its all about fun
speed is 100% irrelevant, in some cases a negative
the g70 is probably way more fun to drive
its smaller, lighter (lol), and has better body geometry and dynamics
as long as it can reach the speed limit and is slow, but has good handling and is engaging to drive, it's good
with the same punchy engine
car reviews poopooed the G70 for being "too slow" though
Honestly... I've been making do with less fast.
but idk how 365hp and 8spd is slow
See, I'd buy a base model ND purely because they make less power
I've stopped craving fast.
of course its not gonna kill the E63s or something
also the genesis is literally half the price
I'll take the Genesis.
More reliable in the long run, more than fun enough in the short run.
hell I've driven 365hp fairly often, its PLENTY quick
like you never ever need all 365hp
even in a porker of an explorer
so I'd never call a lighter car with a quicker trans and the same amount of power slow
the 130hp 1.5L ND Miata is plenty for me. The 2L I feel like would be too fast
and I'd want a hardtop too
fuck verts
I think the RX-7 is ๐
basically nothing I'd change besides making more noise
If I want to make it faster, I can lose 50 pounds.
I've only driven an NA.
someone recommended i take out my back seat to make my car feel quicker
lucky, NA are even slower
which is the dumbest thing I've heard
That was fun enough. I imagine a NB is more refined.
in a really long time
I "drove" an NC once
isn't the NC the worst miata?
and by that I mean I stalled 140 million times as I attempted to go down the street once cause it was my first time ever driving a manual
lol
NC is the "worst" depending on how you view the Miata
It is the biggest and heaviest, probably ugliest too. But the transmission is amazing
and it's still got the 50/50 weight distribution that Miatas are known for
a friend of mine had an NA but she ended up rolling it into a ditch and totalling it
quick for it's weight, rev happy, definitely sporty
The NC was the chonky car.
yea, they're still cool
Still cute.
I jumped my friend's mom's NC with the RX-7 before, lmao
I think the ND could be more cute.
the tail lights are by far the worst part of the ND
I don't disagree.
NA and ND are sexy to me, NB and NC are just bland 90s and 2000s sports cars
ND loses to NA because the taillights are bad
you wanna talk about bad tail lights, just look at the ferraricalifornia
thats just the dumbest shite
NA would still win anyways because popups are superior to all
First 3 generations are just... cute.
they literally put fake tail lights on the california
I like it. Cheerful, bubbly, adorable. And I want one.
like deadass they do NOTHING
lmao
the turn signals, reverse lights and brake lights are all way down in the bumper
If I get a better deal on an NC... fine. Whatever.
NC are still great
exactly
the 6 spd in the NC is better than the NB trans
I believe it.
I've driven both
the lights are below the trunk, in the triangle shaped area
๐ค
Sounds like Ferrari.
like wtaf
that'd be like having popups, but the popups are literally only there for looks cause the headlights are on the bumper
the jag?
yes
the Jag looks nice
I'm inclined to disagree, but idk
the fiat multipla is ugly, the aztek is weird. they're very different
the aztek looks kinda cool ngl
XJ220 was one of the finest designs to come out in the 80s
I used to think the Aztek was hideously bad, but it's grown on me in a very strange way
And the weirder sister car that spawned.
dont worry the 5 series grandtour takes the cake as the ugliest car I think
that or the cybertruck
nah, best cars from the 80s are the FB RX-7 and the Accord with popups
oh no... the funky predecessor. The XJR-15
A Le Mans car for the streets.
the xjr15 has a weird sleepy eye look
Both were super cool cars in their own right.
XJR-15 for being an actual race car.
And the XJ220 for being the uncompromising compromised search for speed.
"It'll be AWD and have a V12"
"Okay fine, RWD and a V6... but with twin turbos!"
am i the only one that thinks the countach is fucking ugly?
what
I adore it personally.
so yes
the Countach is sexy
lol
Minus the spoiler.
i personally think its hideous. but I'm also weird.
box wedge is hella nice
The early ones were THE YEAR 2000 in 1970s view.
1970s was full of boxy wedge cars
The later ones were more, "It's the end of the 80s and I'm gonna make you believe it."
Also, FBs do look good in Tornado Silver. Just my paint looks like complete trash
Goodnight.
yea same, I better sleep too
There's no storms tonight!
gonna see what I can do about the Prius tomorrow
That one we had last night brought a couple of trees down.
But that was the extent of the damage.
Subaru Fucks because [insert joke about owners vaping]
Such a GTA thing to do
@fathom socket
I put on a Toyota oil filter and it seems to be a bit better, but it's still there. Oil level also looks a lot better. Still want to check the spark plugs and may still stick a borescope down there.
But I just don't know
Idk what exactly it could be
ok
I got a better video
you can hear it pretty good
yes that doesn't sound good
As the vehicle company's try to make a better fuel economy they add parts that could break off or cause damage in the intake manifold. In this video I show you simple steps on how to delete this problem by removing the runner flaps in the intake manifold that are causing the ...
it sounds kinda like this
but I don't really think that's my problem
For all you rotary guys.

So far rumors are quite underwhelming.
Based on the Ranger, and likely one engine/transmission combo.
The renders make it look as if Ford never sold Land Rover. If it's real... Ford has disappointed has hard as Land Rover has.
now now
It's just a render.
One that fills me with great unease. It's a total lack of promise and enjoyment. Look at it. It's like a vapid anime love interest. ~uguu
Also it's that or it's gonna look like a mini Explorer.
Isn't it gonna be based on the Focus chassis?
Geez, I wonder where they got the inspiration from
I might take the Prius to Toyota or something and just see what's up. It could be something small, but still something I might not be able to fix myself
enjoy a 900$ diagnostic fee
I mean, if I cant figure out where the noise is coming from, and you guys don't have a clue either, then idk what else to do. Rather not get a new motor if this one only needs a minor fix
Idk tbh, it might be related to the timing chain still
Based on the Ranger, and likely one engine/transmission combo.
It'll be based on the Ranger/Everest chassis.
Baby Bronco is rumored to be on a car chassis.
@civic girder I'm sorry that I can't help you any further. If the car was with me it'd be a lot easier.
Its hard to diagnose a car based off sound clips alone.
Go to a reputable shop
Read reviews on Google Map and Yelp.
Yea. Not your fault you can't see it. I'll see what I can find for shops, if there's nothing decent I'll go to the dealer
@civic girder What sounds does it make? I've probably missed it since I've been extremely busy the last couple of days
@stoic ledge
I've posted a couple videos. I'm at work so I can't link them again rn. You may be able to see them if you scroll up

@indigo coral want to play the game "guess the ๐ณ๐ฑ price of the car"? ๐ Guess the price of the Range Rover Sport HSE P360 like shown above (roughly 96k USD in ๐บ๐ธ )
If I ever did that, I think I'd have a heart attack
@fair bronze based on the options fitted that I could spot in the video... It's โฌ150k (so 167k USD)
So at least 70k USD difference, probably more ๐
Yes. A hatchback.
yep
hold on... let me pull a different picture.
Here we go. Next to a previous generation.
Someday I'd like to get a picture of the FB next to an SA and/or FC
find a local car meet?
I saw a modded FC once, I think I encountered a mostly stock FC once as well. Found an RX-8. And found an S3 FB in worse shape than my S2
I think I did get a picture of my car parked near the S3 once, I saw the S3 a couple times
I haven't been going to the meets because of the season, idk if they're still going on
and I haven't been able to go to Cars and Coffee yet
I know my local C&C is weekly. Which is nice.
Not bad.
Are you anywhere near Portland?
Can you reasonably get there by 8 am?
If I left at 4
Sorry, meant 4
I can't math tonight
I went there for RCCC but that was a go there the night before type thing
tbh 2 hrs each way would be easy
But 4hrs is a bit excessive tbh
Well... At night it's 2.5/3hrs
Could maybe swing it
Is Portland C&C any good?
Omg. Seriously.
When we were doing VCG shit disappeared a number of times
Took forever to find it
me trying to retrieve ceramic spark plug pieces
I haven't tried to start the engine again, since I doubt letting it sit will change anything. Still trying to decide where to take the car to get it checked out
wherever is cheapest but still trustworthy
There's a locally owned shop down the street-ish
I got alternator pulleys for the RX-7 changed out there for free, so I will likely give them a call Monday
If nothing else, it's a hell of a lot closer than the dealer
hopefully its not terminal
What's the guys name again about his Frankenstein 4 rotary rx-7
well, timing is a smaller issue than something incurable, like rod knock
literally everyone i asked, including dad and grandpa thought my car sounded like rod knock. The car is either made of magic or we were wrong.
lol.
Rod knock doesn't happen, disappear for exactly 6 months, and then come back for a day, and disappear again.
That's literally not how that works lol.
yea
So uh. I still have zero clue what happened either time
None.
considering there's no sludge, I have no clue what could cause a problem like that that can also disappear for months
it would make sense if sludge was clogging ol an oil passage and starving the valvetrain or something, but no sludge, no oil pressure issues, and plenty of oil
yea, idk
yea, lol
do you have any hypothesis about what the noise is?
not really, nothing I can prove or work through
ICE vehicle catches fire in water.... What?! ๐ค
Why is so many people concerned about @Tesla batteries catching fire, while they sit in a car full of highly flammable liquid? Like that's much safer by statistics, right? @elonmusk @JohnnaCrider1 @Kristennetten @EvaFoxU h...
127
Imagine running a car on flammable liquid when you can run a gas on flammable gas
Anyway, it's probably mostly due to the degree of difficullty to put out the fire. EV's are extremely difficult to extinguish and can burn for many days, while fossil fuel powered cars are easier to put out.
That's what I assume anyway ๐
Bring back steam cars.
It's a Peugeot, those catch fire under any circumstance
@stoic ledge
@unreal terrace
Nice, didn't know that

X)
Ye :p
Did they use the 1.9 tho?
I know Saab did in the 9-3 and 9-5 TiD and TTiD
Yeah the Astra, Zafira, Vectra/Signum (same platform as the 9-3) 1.9 CDTi
Opel used many outsourced diesels: 1.3 and 1.9 CDTi were Fiat, 1.5 TD /1.7 D, 1.7 CDTi Isuzu.... Only the more recent 1.6 CDTi, 2.0 CDTi and their new 1.5 CDTi were designed by Opel themselves

Watching Canada's worst driver.
This kid on the show has been in 35 accidents, and had 5 write-off's.
And only been driving for 10 months.
If he drives every day.
y I k e s
I've watched a season... I don't get that show tbh.
They should keep every single person there till the end and make them all do the final road test.
Wtf yikes
Watching Australian dashcam compilations is......terrifying
They have some legit awful drivers
two lane roads scare me a bit now, afraid someone might cross lanes like it often happens in those comps
And I really want to get dashcams now, cause damn would it be nice to have if someone pulled an Australian red light run on me
> imagine not having a dashcam
I have a dashcam in all my vehicles.
Yea, I need one
at least for the Prius
RX-7 I definitely want one, but the cig lighter and overall electrical system isn't great so I'd probably just get an action cam and mount instead
Or use a battery pack
yea, either way it would need a battery pack
and a big one in the event of long drives
I'd probably hardwire one when I can
Same
Having to worry about charging a battery is a pain. But the RX-7's cig lighter doesn't work when the dash lights are on higher brightness (and the brightness knob broke at full brightness, lol)
I've plugged mine in to the cigarette lighter... Not going to hardwire it in this car anymore ๐ tbh I can't see the cable except the last 10cm to the plug
I don't want to splice into wires on the RX-7. That would be hella sketchy.
The stock alternator was rated for 50 amps. Even with my upgrade to 83 amps, the electrical system isn't really built for it
Because I'm lazy af and can't be bothered to retype this, here's the story of my buddy's 06 na diesel Jetta
oof
I still haven't replaced the vacuum switch valve in my car
I've got the part just haven't swapped it in yet
bruh
I can't talk tho
half my vacuum solenoids are unplugged and I know 100% I have a vac leak because of one of them.
and I have been too lazy to change diff oil and swap clutch shit
sigh Can't wait to go shop-ping tomorrow tho
kms, that pun was bad
I'll call the local place that's down the street, see if they can look at it quick and see if they can diagnose it. If they couldn't get it in right away I may take it to Grismer for a diagnosis at least, then could take it somewhere else for getting worked on
Toyota is probably too far to risk it. Especially since I'd have to get it up to at least 65 for a good few minutes
just have them give you a diagnosis before you start paying fat stacks
Yea. Grismer charges for diagnostics, iirc, unfortunately. The local shop probably wouldn't, and if they do they wouldn't charge as much as Grismer I'd think
Most everyone charges for diagnosis
Grismer is a lot for diagnostics tho
(especially Dealers... Expect around 1k for and diagnostic)
god damn
At least I only know one thing is wrong with the car tho
that should keep the cost down a little
They shouldn't have to tear down crazy amounts of shit
unlike my friend's dad's Crown Vic that had:
bad spark plugs, bad spark plug wires, bad distributor cap, bad distributor rotor, bad MAF sensor, bad O2 sensor, and bad brake pads
and then the ignition coil went bad too
Woooow
god
hell, a professional tech might even be able to know what's up with my engine as soon as they hear it and poke around with a stethoscope or something
I kinda hope it's my timing, or maybe shit quality fuel or something else stupid and minor
come to think of it, I did add a little bit of seafoam to the fuel
but I wouldn't think it would make that noise
and god damn it.
I hate when I do this
be me
pull into driveway
decide to come back and check oil level in an hour or so
6 hours later haven't even gone outside, let alone check the oil
was gonna see where the 7 was at after the work weekend, but I guess I'll just check in the morning at this rate
not like I'm gonna go anywhere in my sleep, and I know the oil level is gonna be above low; just want to know if its low enough to justify topping off

no, not yet

I'm sure all of you Americans are going to be jealous about my parents loaner car
What a beast
I was gonna guess i-something.
It's the smallest one
Only thing that's not so good, it the engine. Not that's is a bad running engine, but 67hp makes it even slower than my Corsa
67 hp sounds epic
Kei cars are max 64hp iirc?
There abouts
That's some nice power.
I'm building a go-kart with a 16 HP engine.
It's gonna scream.
Considering the kart weighs less than 250 lbs
This is what it's gonna look like.
Oof niceee
A buddy of mine bought an EV one last year, replacing his old one
That one is unbelievably fast
I think a 16 HP engine is enough to make one of those karts go warp 9.
Do you think it's powerful enough?
we've got a gokart with 8.5hp honda engine and it'll do 50mph
๐
so yes
16hp is PLENTY
I'm not sorry to Linus though.
The Next Generation is probably my favorite.
With Voyager and Deep Space 9 being close behind.
16hp is fast enough to move 0.1 lb of go-kart xD Should be fun
Wanna dragrace the i10
meh my remote control car does 60mph
yo, Forgotten Weapons is joining floatplane.

When I hear people say the listen or watch podcasts, I give them a weird look cause no one does that anymore
Surprisingly enough, a lot of people I know listen to podcasts, and they are teenagers at highschool, lol.
๐ค
WANshow is great
I just listen to music, watch tons of YouTube, and chat A LOT on Discord
Sounds like me tbh...
lol
"Honda S2000 Resurrected as a Prototype for Its 20th Anniversary"
Honda has gotten so lazy and apathetic about performance cars they couldn't even be bothered to do a real concept. Instead they clean up and paint a gen 1 S2K.
and they had a modified Civic as a concept too
thats weak
yep
even tesla releases fake concepts
Admittedly, both looked cool, but come on Honda
like the Model X concept or the cybertruck (Hopefully)
at least i really hope the cybertruck is fake
I doubt the Cybertruck will look like that when it hits production
lol
Knowing Tesla designs, it will probably look similar
It really doesn't match with their other designs though
not even remotely similar to their design language
but there's no way it will be as boxy and concept-like as what they've showed us
i really hope that the cybertruck ugliness doesn't start leaching into the other tesla cars
I think the Cybertruck looks similar to other Tesla designs. But it's got waaaaaaaaaay too much concept and experimental mixed in to give it a true "Tesla" vibe
Even Honda admits their best design happened 20 years ago.
ooof
most teslas are smoother and more rounded compared to the polygonal cybertruck
Teslas remind me a bit of Buick.
some of them
They all look the same.
It's just MS Paint dimension changes between the various models.
S and X are very similar, and 3 and Y are similar
3 and S are quite similar on the outside.
not really
And the X is just a bloated S.
the Model S is weirdly proportioned, but looks quite nice from the rear
Y will be a dehydrated X.
y is an inflated 3
Stylistically... they're all the same to me.
I know car stylings is supposed to be consistent across automotive lineups. but c'mon.
the S and X are fat and heavy. They handle decently yeah, but theyre not sporty
the Y is just kinda weird
the 3 looks nice and drives great, though a bit sterile cause no engine / transmission
why?
I just think they're the epitome of non-offensive.
Model X looks like trash, and looks really weird next to their F-150
i cant see my neighbors
lol
I can only see my rx and the explorer, the taurus lives in the garage
meanwhile, my driveway:
4 hybrids and a dorito
Dorito
Tesla owners figured out they can sleep in their cars if you put the rear seats down
our cars are now campers!
(one of the hybrids is in the garage cause it's plug-in tho)
I mean, its fairly effective in the X. Less so in the 3 or S though
I can put the seats down in 90% of cars, and sleep in it.
TIL that my car is a camper too thanks to Tesla owners
Doesn't make it a camper.
I can
yikes
idling uses a ton of gas
Give me 500 dollars, and I can probably rig up a system that won't require any of that.
Heating a Tesla uses a ton of electricity
Give me 2 12 volt batteries, a solar panel, and an inverter, and I'll provide the space heater.
gas is way more expensive than electricity
yeah cause it wastes a ton of energy lol
Also camping is living WITH the local climate. Not ignoring it.
And Teslas are shit RVs.
I hate camping*
idling wastes gas because it's not getting you anywhere. Realistically, the actual fuel consumption at idle isn't even that bad
rv ftw
gallon every 2-3 hours?
0mpg
way quicker than that
because no miles are driven at idle
at least in my car
If you aren't moving, gallons per hour are a better metric.
yea
Most cars use like 0.6L/hour while idling
Cause otherwise a Tesla running the heater at full stop will have 0 eMPG.
depends on the engine displacement
small engines don't waste as much at idle as big engines
this morning I ran my car for ~10 minutes to warm it up (cold as hell here) and the needle was visibly lower
so
Yeah true, small EU engines that is ^^
no more warming up for me
more cylinders = more fuel wasted at idle
does that mean your rotary uses 0 gas at idle
"Compact cars that carry a 2-liter capacity engine burn around 0.16 โ 0.3 gallons of gas on per hour basis. A large sedan, on the other hand, with a 4.6-liter engine, burns approximately 0.5 โ 0.7 gallons of gas while idling. "
๐ค
Heating up a car at idle doesn't really work
well, the RX-7 is technically a "2 cylinder"
So 3-5 hours per gallon.
many many air quotes on """"""""""2 cylinder""""""""""
I could just heat my car up, turn the engine off, and then sleep.
Turn it on in the morning to warm up.
Or get a bigger sleeping bag.
mines not set up for block heater
Also best way to warm a car up is to drive it.
^
and I assume its really forking expensive
Gently, but movement is better
can't drive my car gently when I start out
Though you don't want to drive an ice cold rotary
I turn out onto a 50mph road, and the car is about 3500rpm at 50mph when its cold
and it just sits there
ah, it probably locks out higher gears.
Lol why doesn't it shift
yeah
My Suzuki did the same thing.
its really obnoxious
That's why you have a manual ๐
manuals are annoying
true
Nah
Autotragics are tragic(ly more convenient)
automagic*
Sadlymatic
I'm honestly not sure why I got an automatic.
next car will either be EV or a ZF 8HP equipped car.. or a GS F
For the RX-7:
turn key to prime the fuel pump, pull the choke, start the car, adjust choke speed to lower idle fuel consumption, wait for it to stop misfiring like a drunkard swearing, push in the choke a few times to test if it will hold idle (pull choke back out if rpm drops below about 700), once it holds an idle (even if that's lower than normal idle), drive off but short shift to keep the apex seals from leaving.
or any old car
well, the FB has a manual choke and a carburetor
my car at least has rudimentary fuel injection so no carbs or any bullshit
My truck has direct injection.
the FC, FD, and RX-8 have EFI, so they are like this:
start the car, it will idle a bit high, wait a couple minutes (because its a rotary), and then drive off while short shifting to keep the apex seals alive
Noice!
this morning when I turned my car on it idled at 2100rpm o.O
(for a minute, then settled down)
My truck has an auto high idle switcg
when the RX-7 first starts, rpm jumps to 2k because of the choke, then I drop it to 1500
eventually it gets down to like.... 550rpm idle but that takes a looooooong time
my idle rpm is 1000
factory spec idle is supposed to be 750rpm, but I couldn't quite get it that low without it sounding unhappy or misfiring a lot
but thinking back, my plugs were hyper loose, and that might be why
~1500 to 1000 to 700. Does it in steps.
I don't really notice the steps, since I immediately get to driving
I usually wait a few seconds to get the oil flowing.
I don't xD
I do
be me
first gets the RX-7 running and driving
sits there with the choke out until the engine completely reaches op temp
wonders why mpg is 10
I wonder if putting higher octane fuel would help my car.
It's super high compression.
mine claims to need 93 but yeah nope, good joke lol.
Would be fun to see if I could get better fuel economy on longer road trips.
we tried that on our explorer
that's the only way to get good fuel economy in the RX-7
was better but not better enough to match the increased cost
140+ miles of continuous highway at 70mph was 24mpg
150 miles of balanced highway and city is like 16.6
I filled up on the way home from school today
calculated 16.6
which is close to EPA's combined average of 17
so, I actually did pretty good
nice
and that highway road trip I got above EPA's highway rating of 21
I think city is like 13 or 14 according to the EPA. Which I believe
wow
I'd take off my roofracks/wing but it looks strange without it
so
they stay on
o yeah any news on that yet?>
adds too much weight and I never use it
not yet, they haven't called me yet
I may not find out until tomorrow since they close at 5
how much are they charging for a diagnostic?
But its 10PM already
idk yet. Probably depends on what all they do and how much time they spend
ah thats scary
ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
inb4 10k
besides gas and quick lube oil changes, I've only had to spend about $600 on the car
We've spent.... 100$ in parts iirc since I got the car
$100 of that was a service at the dealer, and $500 of that was the accident repairs
Lol 10k ๐ Don't think it's worth that xD
vcg, pcv valve, spark plugs, and a sway bar linkage
plus 130$ for alignment and two balances
In parts, I haven't spent more than $150 on the car
which is big yikes considering I've only had it for a year and a few months
I got the car for free, my dad paid for the titling cost, my dad paid for the tires it has on it, so
Oof nice
All I've spent on it is gas and maintenance/repairs
I hope they can find the odd squeek my car is making while accelerating, and it doesn't cost too much :/
and even if I were to calculate all of that, it probably wouldn't even equate out to the car's actual value
Gg
squeak under load? sounds like a drive belt
Could be harmless.
Yeah not sure, gonna get it diagnosed next Monday
My Suzuki had a squeaky alternator for over a year. Never had issues with it.
I know what belt squeal and belt slip sounds like. I've had to deal with it numerous times on the RX-7
my steering wheel squeaks
It's been doing it for the last month, it has 0 impact on the way it drives. It's just very annoying
oh yea, my steering wheel squeaks somewhere inside the car. I think it's rubbing on something maybe
the steering itself does not squeak
But the sound is coming from the drivers side, the auxiliary belt etc is on the passenger side
maybe suspension?
On the drivers side, there's nearly nothing xD
Only does it when the engine is hot and while accelerating between 2k and 3k rpm, so doubt tbh
As soon as I stop accelerating (so keep coasting at a steady speed), it stops
sounds as mysterious as the Prius' knock
The entire owner community has written it off as a quirk. Along with coil whine from the fan controller in the dash.
(I do speek some dutch in-between, but just filter that out xD)
(me + mechanic)
Ok sec, I'll get tbe video
i banished an ax1200 i had back to the computer store becuase of coil whine
got a Seasonic Focus Plus Platinum instead
It can best be heard from 0:30 and onwards. That's going around the block with my mechanic
Yes
likely a wheel bearing or warped brake rotor
warp rotors make your car shake
Guys
Brake rotor is just new
I know from experience as well, falcon
It doesn't shake
my rear driver drum also shakes cause the wheel cylinder is fucked and makes the shoes rub
Does it happen only in the rain?
might be wheel bearing then, though @stoic ledge
No all the time
Seems it only happens when turning as well.
Nah that's because we were going around a block
Could be power steering related.
Does it in a straight line too
Hydraulic steering be like that.
Going from my parent's Civic to my 'rolla is a night and day difference.
Does it make sense a wheel bearing would only make a chirping noise when I've driven it some distance? It starts like after 5 miles
hoyl fuck
sure. It warms up. parts expand/shrink with more/less heat.
tesla is worth 95 billion
no it isn't
thats not what someone would buy them for, but in terms of market cap thats what theyre worth
its literally at 524.86$ at close today
Ok, I'll make sure they check the wheel bearing out then... Thnx ๐
they're worth like 0.5b if they were acquired
lol
should have gone in more on AMD ๐คฆ
I should have bought stocks, but no idea where to begin.
i only have 55 shares of amd atm
I sold a few, to recoup my initial cost but have 55 rn
should have bought more
but hindsight is 20/20
I should have bought BTC when it was about 2 cents per BTC xD
oof
I should read up more on stocks, and buy Boeing when they bottom out.
You can burn your hands touching your rims
and that's not even touching the brake rotor that actually sees lots of heat
"Automotive News previously reported that at a recent dealer event in Palm Springs, Ford executives said the Bronco would arrive in showrooms in late 2020, a few months after the Baby Bronco. A few months after that, the unibody pickup would arrive. It's a long wait, especially for a truck announced in early 2017."
@civic girder I did that once, I was feeling if my caliper was sticking, and burnt my hand on my wheel

lmao
Couldn't fix it? :/
good man
