It kinda seems to be slapping a bit more pronounced, but I might just be a little paranoid
Hard things in combustion chambers is bad
^
Top of the piston isn't an issue, but the cylinder walls and the valves
#rotary
Yea. The cylinder walls are what really matters
I mean having damaged valves and valve seats is bad too
Yea, but that's also something you'd notice, right? Piston rings due to scored cylinder walls might not go bad immediately
minus the misfire (i think that's what it was), this is what the engine sounded like before the spark plug incident: https://streamable.com/e1td9
And after the supposed ceramic piece falling in the engine, this is what it sounds like now. The "slap" I'm hearing is more noticeable towards the end: https://streamable.com/kj2z2
couple people think I might be chasing ghosts
Doesn't sound like you have things pinging around a cylinder.
I didn't get video of that part
but there was, it's gone now
but that noise was definitely not there before
Obvious question time.
You torque everything down, and screwed the air box back together all the way, right?
yes. Both hose clamps on the airbox are tightened, MAF was plugged back in
coils were tightened down, spark plugs were tightened to snug
highly considering getting a borescope to peek in the cylinder, and a better spark plug socket (as conradish recommended) and probably a gapping tool to double check the new plugs
Yeah.
Nothing is flying around in the cylinders.
Did you match up the old plugs with the new ones?
Did you make sure they were the same length?
the are the same length and all that
but I did not gap them as I did not have a gapping tool on hand
I also can't seem to find out what the spark plug gap is supposed to be for my engine (1NZ-XFE)
aha, found it
idk how trustworthy this site is, but it has a plug gap spec
Also @fathom socket what do you recommend for magnetic plug sockets? both my 5/8s rubbers ones are crap and basically brand new
@civic girder Spark plugs come pre-gapped
I kinda figured, but you never know
Didn't a very certain eastman51 tell me that his rubber spark plug sockets were just fine ๐
they were fine until I realized one of them doesn't grab the plug at all, and the other grabs too tightly
Just joking.
yea. urgh this is concerning me greatly
This is the set I bought.
Shop for OEM 3 pcs. 3/8 in. drive magnetic spark plug socket set with confidence at AutoZone.com. Parts are just part of what we do. Get yours online today and pick up in store.
maybe your shocks are bad?
But it drove just fine for the past week? I mean they could've gone bad but the whole day it felt good until I pulled out of Walmart and drove home
It's the front driver side now?
hmm. What all has been done to it and what exactly is wrong with it?
It was just the rear and front passenger side
I've had 2 rims replaced, and re aligned
For 1 pothole
its possible you have suspension damage that keeps it from holding an alignment
I mean possibly? But the bumpyness felt like it was a bent rim or something?
@fathom socket you have any idea what that slap is, or is it just gonna be like that after the ceramic pinged around a bit?
I don't feel it when turning, just going straight
that video was taken a while after I got the new plugs on
right after the new plugs were on, it rattled and shook like a bitch for a few seconds
definitely sounded like something may have been pinging around or loose
Make sure everything is tight.
It wouldn't hurt.
that's what I'm thinking.
I'll send you a link to the one I have.
ok, cool
maybe a little expensive for me tho
Now I have a SnapOn brand one
I'm sure its good, but idk if I need that fancy of one for a 2 second peek at a cylinder
I think Autozone loans them.
BBL.
Gotta catch up on school.
Gotta get that degree.
ok, I'm probably gonna go eat and maybe hit the gym, so I'll look into it
yea, go for it
Which means I gotta work hard!
I paid for auto trade school.
Now I have a successful shop.
And i'm using the money to go and get my PHD is Theology.
Nice
I may get one of those phone ones so I might be able to record video of the cylinder
They make ones that plug into a USB port.
yea, that's the kind I'm probably going to get
I just realized you weren't talking about the RX-7
๐
BMW says it'll make gas engines for at least 30 more years.
https://t.co/7aRHqK71oO
377
noooo you won't ๐
Lmao
30 more years... sure.
Likely more with emerging markets in Africa and Asia.
https://jalopnik.com/i-bought-a-260-000-mile-holy-grail-jeep-grand-cherokee-1840824046 These articles are always fun. Jeep guy does a Jeep thing.
How to literally blow your ears out 101
I have mine in my RX at +5 (of 5) but it's the stock nakamichi system
Bad news on the Prius. I jumped onto the Prius forums for some advice from people who know what they're dealing with. The only reply I've gotten so far has told me that slap = death. Gonna have to ditch the car or cough up for a replacement motor
Okay.
though that's only one reply, and I have not peeked at the internals yet
Any idea as to what caused it?
I'm thinking it was the ceramic piece, but idk.
it only started slapping after that happened
I don't think a little ceramic piece would cause piston slap.
It's almost impossible.
idk what else could have caused it. Definitely could be unrelated
I know very little about piston engines beyond basics of how they function
from what I can see online, scored cylinder walls can cause piston slap. So, it's possible that ceramic piece got stuck on the edge of the piston and scored the wall I think.
but idk enough about this stuff
A scored cylinder wall would not cause piston slap.
what does cause it?
Piston slap is where the piston and valves are hitting each other.
Is the timing off?
Does it have a timing belt?
How many miles does it have?
almost 99k
Time for a timing belt replacement.
I thought piston slap was when the piston is knocking about within the cylinder?
^
I bet it's never had one.
I also would think its not had a timing belt replaced. But what if I replace it and the slap remains?
If a piston meets a valve, it's game over.
then I wasted time and money on that repair job only to still need a new motor
You're in the process of elimination.
The chances of it going away are pretty high.
A timing belt won't fix the issue.
Thats way less than a new engine
I don't see how valve timing is going to affect the piston.
It can.
do we know for a fact it's piston slap?
how
$400? jesus. that'd be a quarter cost of getting a used engine installed
I own a mechanic shop in Indiana.
...
I think it sounds like piston slap
Then you can explain it.
I know that a little piece of ceramic would not cause the piston to move around in the cylinder.
Cause everything I've turned up on google says piston slap is not piston meeting valves.
There's no way you can get a new engine in for 1600$
Its possible.
@indigo coral used engine
But a piston knocking around inside the cylinder.
But I've seen a lot of failed motors.
Piston slap is when the piston slaps the cylinder walls hmmm
idk, that's what this guy quoted me on the forums
And I've never seen that happen before.
It can be.
Could it be valve tick?
yea, and if my piston was hitting a valve, I'd be losing compression somewhere anyway I think
Repost vid Eastman
If the timing is ever so slightly off, they could be just barely touching.
https://streamable.com/kj2z2
again, you can hear it better at the end when the engine kinda shifts
Also could be a valve tick.
But my bet is on the timing.
Run some seafoam through it.
If the sound goes away it's a valve tick.
Hm, a loud timing chain can also sound like lifter tick, if the engine has a timing chain
What engine does it have?
1NZ-XFE
or FXE, I can't remember
@indigo coral it sounded fine after the ceramic yeeted, so I went for a drive. Then noticed the noise
you did try disconnecting battery to reset everything?
not yet
(not that i think that will solve anything, but its an easy first go)
there's a whole hell of a lot of stuff that can be fixed by the good old "turn it off and on again" treatment. Almost always worth a shot.
When its the internals of the engine related, I really wished that fixed them
lmao
LOL
so..
Epic
xD
not saying its necessarily going to magically fix stuff
but its dead easy (and free)
Your car has a timing chain.
I kinda figured it would
sadly mine has a belt ๐ฆ
tensioners don't make noise up by the spark plugs
would it be possible for a tensioner to come loose if the engine were to shake like a bull trying to ditch its rider?
well, that could very well possibly be my problem then
the engine shook real bad when the ceramic was in there
It could very well just be valve tick.
Take the valve cover off and see if anything looks peculiar.
@dense shard Valve tick rarely happens on 4 bangers.
It happens.
that'll have to wait. I am busy tomorrow, I have work this weekend, and I think its raining friday (no garage access). Next week I start school
It occurs mostly on pushrod engines.
I've heard it on my Accord, Suzuki, and I imagine I'll hear it one day in some other car I own.
can someone give me a real quick rundown on what exactly valve tick is?
I'm watching a video of what lifer tap sounds like, doesn't quite seem the same
@civic girder Before you change the oil, throw some seafoam in the crankcase.
This is what valve tick sounds like
it has fresh oil in it
I changed the oil a couple days ago, remember
and it was misfiring
so I messed with the plugs
and now we're here
i just saw some interesting news, apparently the carsharing thing of bmw and Mercedes are using teslas now ๐ค
@indigo coral If the engine doesn't do it inherently like mine due to the lifter design, its usually oil not getting to the valves or the valves being out of adjustment causing them to tick
Refer to my video above for what lifter tick sounds like
it is late @fathom socket you're good. I'm about to head to bed myself
Me too.
The car sharing thing is partially invested in by Daimler and BMW.
I'll help you more tomorrow.
my normal tick noise is from fuel injector tick, known quirk of the 1mz-fe
Doesn't mean they're providing their own cars for it.
And despite what Electrek may want to think.
Yeah, injector tick can sound like lifter tick
60 cars is a tiny order.
people bitch about it even though its literally fine
Especially compared to Amazon's 20k for Mercedes.
I know my 1NZ has injector tick. It's quite obvious
"wElL i BoUgHt a LeXuS aNd iT's hUrTiNg My FeElInGs"
๐
but the knock thing was quite obviously very different lol
this noise is definitely piston slap, after having watched a few piston slap videos
don't assume that immediately
R i p
at least, I think it is definitely piston slap
rod knocking lexus rx anyone
magic
rod knock cant go away but here we are, so clearly it wasn't rod knock
@civic girder Definitely put some seafoam in the crankcase m
Maybe your rod knock went away.
i do almost wonder if it was just a misfire or something, but my plugs looked fine (though worn down a bit), and no codes were thrown
@fathom socket like, put it in the oil or in the intake?
If it goes away then it's a valve problem.
no oil in the spark plug holes etc
In the oil
never heard of putting seafoam in the oil, but ok
yeah dont put it in the intake lol
I've only heard of seafoam used to de-carbon engines by spraying that shit in the intake
We are trying to rule out the tick.
no i was saying my RX had no sht in the spark plug holes, so i am doubtful it was misfire that only reared its ugly head twice
They have a fluid that gets stuck in gas and oil.
btw it was literally 6 months to the day apart, the two knocking incidents
which I find...interesting
doo I just get regular seafoam, or is there a special kind
guess my ghost has a temper tantrum every 6 months /s
Seafoam can like blow a headgasket if the engine can't handle it
@indigo coral It's haunted ๐
idfk, its been running great
I've heard of seafoam being used extensively on rotaries
and not smelling burnt after stopping cause its not dripping oil on the exhaust anymore
yeet
If you only put in a little it's fine.
spray that shit in the spark plug holes (for each rotor face), put the plugs in, crank it and spray down the carb/intake
No no no.
that is for carbon locked rotaries tho
hes talking for rotaries
but I may also be misremembering the exact procedure
Carbon locked YIKES
yep
Just pee in the cylinders, that'll get er up and running
anyone have ghost-contact methods? I'd like to ask him/her to kindly fuck right off from messing with my car.

lol
Yea, I've seen seafoam at walmart
oh yes delete my electronically controlled transmission
Yes
It's called a carbourated engine.
I am going to the gym in the morning, I'll stop at Walmart on the way back and add it to the oil. Take it for a shakedown. @fathom socket how much do I add?
Roof delete, seats delete, AC delete, body panel delete, wheels delete
carb is the superior fuel system. Because it is easy to work on
@civic girder Read the instructions on the can
not bad, runs nicely
bedtime
Gn
Yep.
vid was just tonight
Don't let the rotary rod knock wait what
dw not speeding
I might shut down my phone.
I have to shut off my PC before I check another channel and get sucked into a new convo
But we're supposed to have a huge storm.
@civic girder lol.
I wanna have my phone on in case something happens.
good idea
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5lGttzLbqE
well I leave you with this masterpiece
This is the cold start procedure for my FB RX-7, the video ends when the engine is warm enough to hold idle (aka, warm enough to drive); however, the engine is still cold and will have to be short shifted below 3 thousand rpm until it reaches operating temperature.
For thos...
We have tornadoes here quite often.
oh sh*t
we had a tornado
EF2 super uncommon here
ran right thru my town
yeeted trees around like toothpicks
Every 6 months or so we get a good ef2 or ef3 tornado.
I still remember the night of the Ohio tornados from a while ago
tornadoes are decidedly uncommon in northwest washington ๐
I was just chillin while my phone was going off like crazy for tornado warnings
Yeeted yoted
One came within 300 feet of my house.
yikes
It yanked some siding off.
That was it.
Picked up the neighbors RV and slammed it on the ground.
They had insurance though.
our tornado starting slinging trees around
And got an even better one with the check that they got.
was... impressive
we've the giant big cedar trees and stuff, and they got chucked around pretty good
One time a tornado wrapped an entire trampoline around a huge tree trunk.
sigh
Starting off 2020 with a plot twist lmao.
The Queen of Unreliability survived 140+ mile continuous journey, while the Prius apparently is now my lemon
My Dad loves them.
unfortunately I didn't get to actually see it ๐ฆ
I wish i did
I was in hawaii during hurricane lane though
which was cool
I better disappear for real. 2AM not fun on the sleep cycle
@civic girder Is it good or bad that the RX-7 is suddenly the reliable one?
clearly the rx7 likes him
I am honestly not sure how I feel about it
Just yeet the Prius.
omg.
I might
And daily the RX-7
well, I'd replace the Prius
if you want a car that will never die but make you want it to, get a crown vic
reliable but terrible cars
the RX-7 is too clean to drive on salted snowy roads if I can avoid it
no, i need people to talk to
imsrry
lol
but yea, bye

To search all the top cars for sale sites at once, and compare with all of craigslist, go to AutoTempest: https://www.autotempest.com
How does one go from being a math teacher to building one of the coolest Mazda RX-7 FDs ever? This is Aaron Parkerโs Mazda FD RX-7 which is...
weeeeee
A very nice car!
@indigo coral Don't get a crown Vic.
They blow out the spark plugs.
o
lol
i just know they have a reputation of lasting forever
but they really are truly terrible cars
hideously ugly and the interior is just dreadful
and super slow
Get something with a Chevy LS V8 or a Cummins.
or another prius
What you need is a Toyota Corolla Scotty Kilmer spec
exactly
240 in a giant car liek that isn't particularly quick
weighs 4200lbs
more than my RX
I have 0 and a half lbft of torque
Its quicker then a lot of cars.
Trust me.
Don't even compare it to a Cobalt.
Or an Impala.
idk anything about the cobalt
Or a Corolla
i know the state patrol uses impalas
so I watch out for those
xD
impalas and tahoes
city cops use a varied set of cars, Explorer, Taurus, F150, Bolt and Highlander
sheriff uses explorer and taurus
If the Impalas have the V8 theyre faster and more reliable than the Crown Vic.
next city over has a few chargers
The Crown Vic has a 4.6l 240 HP V8.
they finally did away iwth crown vics here
The Impala V8 is a 5.3l 315 HP V8.
Much faster and lighter.
My Dad had a 2007 Impala SS with the V8.
It was fast.
if, by the time I'm looking at new cars, the GS F has depreciated sufficiently I might buy that
But it was front wheel drive :(
So it spun the tires for days.
decent size trunk, big car so decent interior volume
aside from the ugly analog clock, a stunning interior
The Crown Vic had traction for days.
The Crown Vic would get the Impala off the line.
๐ค I wonder if the GS F would be reliable
But once the Impala got traction, it'd freight train the Crown Vic.
Last I heard the Lexus/Toyota V8 is quite reliable and durable.
We'll see how expensive they are when new-car time comes
I worry theyre not going to depreciate that much lower than they are now
because they're uncommon and really damn good
And probably have a following.
It's good practice to not trust any V8 unless it's a pushrod engine.
Currently, a 2017 seems to change hands at ~50k
Hopefully in a few years that'll be closer to 20 lol
They haven't been able to make a reliable DOHC V8 yet.
They're a pain in the ass to work on too.
its a toyota.
The Crown Vic is an overhead cam.
pain to work on, but you don't have to do it that often.
Modular 4.6
Considering my car is now 21 years old, and in approaching 2 years under my care and 20k miles it has needed a valve cover gasket, a couple oil changes, alignment and that's about it? I'd say thats pretty damn good.
they seem to be cars that last
There's a saying, you double the number of camshafts, you double the number of trouble.
That's a new one.
It's most common in shops
So that means the RX-7 is far less trouble than any car with a camshaft.
No.
I'm reading good things about the 5L V8 in the GS F
That... was a joke.
no turbos or any bs to go wrong
And a triangle means quadruple the amount of trouble ๐
For each triangle you have in your engine, you quadruple the amount of trouble ๐

lol.
Not trying to start a war about JDM vs USDM or whatever
I don't think so.
Haters need to go get lost.
Even if I don't like a car, I'm not gonna hate on it.
Cause whoever owns it hopefully likes it.
oh sh*t
theres a TRD supercharger for the 1MZ-FE
lol
only bumps you to 242hp though, weak.
Damn son.
thats only 22hp gain
wait
no
thats starting from 195 in the Camry
thats actually not bad
Gonna have to throw a turbske on it instead.
A turbske will make sure that engine will never run again.
I'm not going to put forced induction on it lol.
the trans is already hella overstressed
Lol
adding 40hp would probably just make it grenade
If you have a diesel, you can put 90+ psi of boost into a built motor.
I think I'll stick to keeping my cars stock
But that's no fun.
I'd be tempted to put the Stinger badge on the back if I got one, but I don't want to fuck the 10yr warranty lol.
(also why I'd wait to put an exhaust lol)
If you don't have a window in the side of the block, you're not doing it right.
that looks way better than the KIA badge
id totally do that but I would wait until the warranty expires
don't want to risk it lol
no point in ruining a 10yr warranty over a badge
You can't ruin a warranty by putting a badge on a car.
im sure a dealer would reject a repair because aftermarket mods
they hate doing warranty repairs
I mean the Ford dealer initially rejected our repair cause we had seat covers on
had to bring it back later w/o seat covers to get the repair
...in the engine bay (under warranty, thank god)
it stretched its timing chain and a whole load of shit went wrong
They cannot deny you warranty work unless the can prove that whatever mods you did to the car caused the failure.
How long ago was this?
Okay.
You coulda sued them.
they ended up fixing it after they made us take off the seat covers
Good night.
gn
idk why my brain is so stupid by now that it reads seat like the brand...
5:50am 18 degrees Fahrenheit
So damn cold
I'm being prepared for next month because it's the coldest
Known as February
Anyone here in the know about diesles?
My cars instant consumption readout says it's using fuel while engine breaking ๐ค
> on board computer
Is it 2.0L/100km? That's what our Punto could do as lowest readout xD
Yeah exactly
It's like
It's sooting alot
It's using more fuel than expected
And it's showing 2.0/100 while engine breaking
And I've heard from a friend that the sooting could be caused by the MAF being bad and that'll explain the other symptoms also
And it's a โฌ110-150 part ๐ญ
Or โฌ300 if I buy it locally
About the sooting: try giving it the beans from time to time, should clean it right up
@unreal terrace Did you try cleaning the MAF sensor?
Yeah i did last Summer, didn't make a difference @fathom socket
@fathom socket Is that a Crown Vic?
Yeah
I'm not sure why we have a few high mileage cars
The Hyundai Tucson 2005 has 489.760 miles on it
So my goal is to get that 1993 diesel Toyota pickup to hit 900 thousand miles
Ah okay
I like taking care of cars it's my thing lol
My Duramax has 151k on it.
My van has 174k on it.
My first truck was driven to 743k.
@fathom socket
I just bought a can of seafoam. Don't think I'll have time to do it now as I need to get ready to leave for the afternoon. But I will try it tonight if I have time
Okay.
New windshield wipers. ๐
Yay!
Nice
I hate crappy wipers.
If worn -> immediately replace by some good ones
I bought OEM ones. I think they cost me like โฌ35
Bosch 394S, or whatever it was.
I think Valeo for BMW
I use the $40 Michelin brand ones.
Yep.
580/500 mm wipers. ๐
They are super nice.
380/650mm wipers ๐
Costco sells Michelin brand ones.
probably that then
You probably have to pay an arm and a leg for premium brand ones at supermarkets.
Dang.
they were on sale for 3 bucks. Lol.
Is that your speed?
Do you have gigabit?
I'm upgrading to gigabit.
i'd expect some loss because I'm chained in through 2 switches before the router
lol
Waiting on the ISP.
And I thought I had a whack down/upload ratio.
our house is ancient and was not designed with internet in mind
yeah their upload is bad
our provider is the only option around here besides DSL or satellite internet
which is unfortunate
i think you're the first person I have EVER hear say that
Hot damn. I forgot that we got better download speeds in the last week.
It's good where I live
I called them for our crappy connection.
need to get a cell booster here
Ive never had an internet downage.
We used to get 110/11
And I pay $90 a month for gigabit
I've had phones on all 4 big carriers, tmo and verizon are the only ones with coverage at all
ours is 80$ a month for gigabit
we did have cable but dropped it
I have T-Mobile.
I honestly have no idea what we pay for our internet. Since it's a bundle thing with our neigborhood.
They have really good pricing for unlimited.
I just know that upgrading our internet cost us โฌ0 extra.
Including the free modem.
I pay $120 a month for 4 unlimited lines with 20 GB of hotspot.
you have magenta+ ?
No.
or is it the older tmobile one
T-Mobile family plan.
I need to get a new phone at some point.
got my new 5g phone for just a trade in (bought an S9 for cheap to give them xD)
I share the plan with my parents and my brother.
We each pay a quarter of the bill.
nice
It's a really good deal.
what phone do you use?
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4.
oh fuck
Don't be hating.
I'm using a Huawei Honor 8.
I'm upgrading to an iPhone 7
but ended up getting a OnePlus 5 instead
It's a pretty budget phone, mine.
Then upgraded to a OnePlus 6T in august, which I gave to my mom when we switched
My Dad loves his One Plus 7 pro with 12 GB of RAM.
His phone is insane.
I wonder what people are selling their phones for now, since it's past Christmas.
yeah, thats largely what my phone is
just the 'newer version' with the 855+
but the 7 pro is epic
I've been stuck with TracFone since 2017 until we switched
Looool 900mbps nice, but only 11 up tho ๐
The 7 pro is better than the 7 t.
Yeah.
the 7T Pro is the evolution for the 7 Pro
I'd never buy a Huawei
I don't trust them Chinese.
Huawei are alright. But they sure had some iffyness with their politics.
Imagine having a Chinese phone
Runs of with a OnePlus
not mmwave, but I get 5G low band coverage quite often
I know. But the Huawais have been proven to have spyware.
I'm not bothering to buy 5g until it becomes streamlined.
Oh welp. I'm saving up for a fancy watch right now either way.
I'll use my Honor 8 until it dies, probably.
I don't recall huwei having spyware.
only thing I wish my phone has that it doesnt is wireless charging
but I can live without that
The last 2 stories I saw ended up with the media outlets apologizing for lying.
Huawei got banned from the US for it.
I really want a phone with wireless charging.
Specifically the spy chips.
the oneplus phones have glass backs but no wireless charging (though they are really nice looking)
Huawei got banned for circumventing sanctions against Iran and North Korea.
the OP6 and newer at least have glass backs
Also for spyware
Fun fact - The 'fancy' watch that I want to get will cost more than what I paid for my car.
There has been testing done to prove that.
source?
I forget, it was Popular Mechanics I think.
I'm a bit scared of my phone though, I super don't want to mess it up
I know they've circumvented sanctions, have not been able to address security concerns, and have stolen IP.
since its not 100% mine for two years
I don't remember anything about actual spyware.
talking about oneplus again
must agree, i've got a op6
My problem with that is getting one that old means you're gonna lose iOS updates sooner rather than later
Nah.
The 5s still gets IOS 12
meh, the only annoyance I've found with my 7t pro is that the battery life is mediocre
its got android 10, crazy fast, 90hz screen, 1440p, awesome in screen fingerprint, 5G is a lot faster than LTE
(and it cost me under 200 dollars)
whippin my brothers prius prime to school is fun in only electric mode tbh
itโs the only way iโll drive his car
plus they gave free chargers at my campus now
nifty
I would totally rock an EV, if we just had charging at home.
I would totally drive an EV if I could afford it
and if it had enough range to be practical
otherwise we wouldโve traded this car in for a model 3 or S
weโre trading it in for a 2020 outback XT lol
and yeah
those leafs arenโt good at all
if I had a Model 3, i would put so damn many miles on it lol
just driving it for fun
my issue is that weโre also looking for a house rn
and houses here are rare to find
There have been talks about refreshing the wiring in our garage to handle EV charging.
ooo
thereโs a bunch of houses here with garages turned into bedrooms
which piss me off bc i want a garage space for the tesla and the supra when i get one
one day
We have a community garage.
Forgot to place my parking permit in the window.
I just don't want stuff cluttered in my window.
Happily I have in garage parking.
We have that also. But I'm lazy.
i have to park on our driveway ๐ข
gonna destroy my paint but eh, I can't really do anything about it
i only have one sticker on the window and itโs for the parking so itโs okay
My truck gets parked in a gravel lot.
Next to my house.
You get to my house via a long gravel drive.
do any of you guys have a recommendation for an AC inverter? I want one that can run my laptop but isn't too expensive
One that runs off a 12V outlet?
Looking at Amazon... it looks as if all the various brands are made in the same factory.
I have a 1000 watt inverter in my truck.
tbh i use a thing for the cig litghter to 110 it works for me
it was like $25-30 on amazon and it has the 110V + 2 usbs
The reviews don't seem to bad on those.
Well. I added some Seafoam to the Prius oil
and a tiny bit to the fuel just because I can
checked oil, its uh, a fair bit over the full line
maybe I should drain some?
yes
possible oil isn't getting to one cylinder because its too full and causing too much pressure?
it did seem to sound a bit better after adding seafoam
tomorrow, if I can get garage access, I will drain some oil and add the rest of the Seafoam because why not
I am also debating going to Toyota to get an OEM oil filter just in case there's not enough flow
yea fuck it
gonna ditch the prius?
I'm going to get a better oil filter and that should remove enough oil
o
just had a discussion about how shitty Fram filters are
I may also swap the oil filter on the RX-7
@fathom socket yeah OBD doesn't give any codes :p
Yea. Hoping it does solve the slap
and then maybe I can daily the Prius again without fear
Hopefully
should kill two birds too cause some oil will come out with the filter
ah for the next change you mean
Yep

Castrol GTX FOR LIFE BABY
high mileage is prolly still gonna be better quality
I'm a cheapo boi and have been using Walmart Supertech
Castrol 4 lyfe
Technically I could run 20W50 in the 7, but I don't live in Hell, so I actually need the cold resistance of 10W40/30
Idk what Toyota dudes run, I've seen castrol a lot in em though
At least until I bought a Toyota that requires exotic synthetic oil milked from the teats of the synthetic oil goat god.
I'm currently on 15w40 for winter haha
Castrol is good oil from what I know
I'm stuck with Mobil 1 and whoever else does 0w-16.
mobil 1
oof
It's all oil.
does Castrol have conventional oil?
They have conventional.
GTX is conventional
specifically 10W40
ok, I may get that next time for the 7
but I have 5 quarts of Supertech to burn first
not including what's in the engine
Shouldn't be hard in the rotary /s
Yea, I have never had consumption issues on the Prius either
if I did, my engine would probably be fucked
I've run it 10k miles without a change a couple times before
Noice, your engine sounds relatively healthy except for the p i s t o n s l a p
lmao
not enough flow or something
Would be a first
yea.
Still not 100% sure if I should run my car to 10k or not do an initial oil change at 5k.
adding Seafoam helped it a little bit, but its still there
Reinforces my hatred towards fram
I mean total miles on his motor
low miles you usually want to do oil changes in close intervals as you break it in
Thing is Toyota makes no mention of it.
No break in period?
I mean, it is a Toyota 4 banger, it's probably fine
The break in doesn't talk about oil changes.
oh
spooky
BMWs change their oil right after break in
mine might not actually burn that much oil
its really levelled off after new vcg and stuff
I imagine they did a quick run in the factory, and changed the oil.
Yea
checked it 500 miles apart and the oil was at the same spot on the dipstick
Might just pay up for a change now, and get back on the schedule at 10k.
they might pre-sales-break-in engines these days
gotta break my engine in /s
I might not worry about it tbh.
I think the 7 has about 2k left till the next change
if that car does any breaking, it won't be in, it will be apart
I changed it at about 71.2k iirc, and I'm nearly at 72k
Toyota engineers know better than I.
not the ones at the dealer, lmao
The dealer will tell me to come back in 3k.
probably
but your car is low miles, so it would probably be good for it
would be fine either way tho, so
with dino oil the recommended (by forum owners) oil change interval for my RX is 2k miles
o.o
I'd be changing the oil like every 6 weeks
lmao
I'm honestly thinking I'll be fine.
does your car have dipstick monte?
and its Toyota
most new ones dont, so I have to ask xD
Yeah I checked. Oil tastes fine.
the chances of it blowing up or developing issues before warranty ends is low
wait, new cars don't have dipsticks?
most don't
digitally
oh god
It's all electronic.
it has a "oil meter"
jesus christ
and it tells you when its time to get a change
you cannot check it yourself
at all
The Germans were famous for pioneering that rubbish.
Toyota doesn't.
Not for the 'rolla.
I apparently have a curse where I accidentally overfill my cars. What would the computer said if it was overfull?
thats cause they know it'll be running in 30 years
i was worried i overfilled my car cause it was right below the top line on teh dipstick
so I just drove it and let it burn/leak away over a cuople thuosand miles
lol
had to double check, but it appears the Camry also has a dipstick.
I overfilled the RX-7 once. And then I decided I should measure out my oil.
brb checking oil
lol
i checked mine today
right in the middle of the dots, perfect.
which is impressive, I've not had to add any since I changed it 1200 miles ago
(it shouldn't surprise me, but it does)
when I got the car I'd have to add a half quart every 1k or so
shite, I didn't check RX-7 oil. Eh, I'll check it tomorrow before I go get a new filter for the Prius
and its been burning/leaking elss and less
which I find really weird
(besides vcg, that makes sense)
new gaskets can seriously help with leaks and consumption
