Do you love the brake by wire on it
Brake by wire is DUMB af
Ok! that reminds me.
manual brakes are fun, don't ask how I know
Don't @ me
I have a question about modern cars
@civic girder did you die
at the car expo i went to, was pushing gas pedal and the vast majority of cars have a clicky part at the end.
why?
Kickdown
EVs have it for eco mode and shit, but why do powerful gas cars have it?
Lets the car know to skip to the lowest gear possible
(not tesla EVs, like nissan leaf and ford focus Ev)
Which car would you like me to tell you about @normal temple ?
the RX-7 or the other one
ah
Well
I need kickdown for my 130whp
the RX-7 fuel pump died right, and then we replaced it, and then it died again
but before that one died, I had intermittent fuel
where the pump would sometimes work and sometimes not
so one time it decided to stop working while I was on the highway
and that's when I learned why brake boosters exist
Yea, especially cause my drum brakes were still fucked back then
oof no booster AND drums
they made the pedal pulsate very hard
That's a yikes
cause my car is made for old people
now that the drums are partially functional the pedal is soft and has better feel
but my driver's side wheel cylinder is still fucked
so my brakes still aren't great
Disc conversion yeeees
I have to actively pull back to avoid braking too hard
lol
its so easy to press
cause old people car
yea, I need to find a GSL(-SE) rear end so I can get rear discs
oh, fun fact
the Prius also has rear drums
my '99 has 4 wheel discs
New smart cars do too
drum brakes are terribad aren't they?
actually, drums aren't really bad
They're horrible to deal with sure
but they wear faster and are more painful to work on
But they get the job done
oh god
Mine are warped
Drum brakes are an affront to nature, and any automaker that still uses them needs to be laughed at.
fuck warped rotors
I agree
We got rid of horses in 1900, we can get rid of drum brakes in 2000.
I mean drum brakes still have their place
I've been to the tire shop 3 times and am finally mostly sorted in terms of shaking/alignment
I may or may not have been traumatized by brake shore replacements in the past.
a lot of transport trucks still use drums
shakes a bit at 70ish but i rarely go that fast so I'm fine with that
Trucks can also use disc.
The RX-7 was hella sketchy to drive at first. The rotors where rusty cause the car had sat. They overheated and warped them as the rust got scraped off. Then after they cooled down it was sketchy because the car would physically pulsate as you gently applied brakes because of how warped they are
drums are really common on trailers though
They still use drums because the only thing slower to adapt to new things is grandpa and his old Windows NT 3.5 PC.
And then I found out that the RX-7 doesn't use conventional front discs
the rotor is the wheel hub
Apparently drums are still de facto in the US because regulations haven't been written for discs in mind... and why change?
Anyone wanna solve a riddle for me
so the bearings have to get changed out when you change the brake rotors
oof
oof
At least that's fairly uncommon.
think mines really quite easy to swap out rotors
yea, if the rotor bolts onto the hub its stupid easy
but if the rotor is the hub, its a bit more involved
It's all fun and games till the bolts rust on.
not really difficult, but you have to get new bearings and press the races into the new rotor and then pack the new bearings
yes, definitely change your pads with the rotors
yeah ofc
Hell, I'm changing the drums on the RX-7 when I change the shoes because the drums were like $15 each and my old ones are rusty and probably warped
But I still have to fix the driver's side wheel cylinder so the new drum can go on
and I can't put the new wheel cylinder on without a new brake hardline
I had 3 wheel disc brakes.
the 4th was drum for the ebrake?
RIP
RIP
I replaced that, and now I have 4 wheel disc brakes.
I upgraded the brake booster and all the lines too.
I think it stops better than my dad's car
This is a 6500 LB pickup truck too.
I used EBC pads.
And the best painted rotors from Advance Auto Parts.
I had to replace one rear caliper too
Because the seal blew and I was too lazy to rebuild it.
Then I found that there was an imbalance, so I replaced the other rear caliper.
And it brakes phenomenally.
Lol.
I took it for a drive earlier (20 minutes, 13 miles), and didnt encounter any problems besides already known stuff
so...
yeah
tomorrow we're still gonna dig into it a bit and confirm our suspicions that VCG is leaky
also I'm pretty damn sure my flex pipe is leaking
cause it sounds like an exhaust leak when I give it gas from a stop/slowly up a hill
but doesn't do it if I rev the car in neutral or anything
Those flex pipes are garbage.
Not really.
like 190$ for the part
Oh.
You mean a factory one.
Cut it out and replace it with an aftermarket version.
if there's a cheaper alternative, that sounds good to me
i think a hanger is loose too
You can get those for cheap too.
will check tomorrow
Not a huge fan of non-specific aftermarket parts.
I have enough issues with aftermarket OEM replacements fitting.
OEM or from the dealership?
Aftermarket OEM replacements. Never tried a dealership.
I will for the 'rolla most likely.
at least I'm fairly sure its an exhaust leak
But the Accord got refurbs and advanced autoparts swag.
Check the clamps and flanges.
Partially because autozone flatout didn't fit.
Those get loose sometimes.
only time it manifests itself is when the engine is under load
starting from stop etc
once I'm going, it doesn't make the sound
I've had better luck with Advance Auto Parts.
Autozone brakes are garbage in my opinion.
I've had nightmares with them.
I'll probably go to the dealer for a brake job in the future.
At least as long as my warranty holds.
The Carquest brand brakes seem to be pretty good.
I have really good luck with the middle of the road to expensive Carquest brakes.
I've never bought cheap brakes.
Because I don't want to try my safety.
ye
Check out EBC pads.
They are expensive but the best I've ever had.
Why is putting red diesel in a vehicle illegal?
I have tons of it.
I've been super tempted to put it in my truck.
I'm hoping my brakes last more than 20k miles.
tbh
exhaust leaks don't hugely worry me
that's easy to jerryrig
and usually not horridly expensive
Ugh. I need to look over my exhaust.
I have a rattle from it. Likely the heat shield.
Cut the damn thing off and send it
I guess this is what it would sorta sound like? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuElrRhtvDg
Today is fix the damn car day
New spark plugs, valve cover gaskets, pcv valve, and spark plug seals
LEAAAAKY BOI
glassbomb you gonna re-do all the exhaust from the engine? Headers and "catback"?
If thats the case, I can recommend putting a good muffler on and not a straight through one, it will get loud even with 2 straight through mufflers
Oh dear
That would be a slight source of smoke.
I had a 2.4 Ecotec come in with a complaint of smoke. I took the valve cover off, to find that there was no inner gasket around the spark plugs.
The spark plug wells were filled up with oil.
And the plugs were fouled.
There was so much oil everywhere.
I learned how to rebuild a 2 stroke engine
I was confused that it uses gasoline and oil to run it
Because I was like I did something wrong when it started making blue smoke a little but that's just the oil in the fuel
@civic girder rotary intensifies
@fallow plover Nah. I'm just going to keep it stock. Unless the whole thing rusts over.
I just need to get the car up in the air to see what's rattling.
If there's no blue smoke at cold start, it's fucked (if rotary or 2 stroke)
can recommend headers tho 😛 keep the rest stock
Didn't know rotarys need oil in fuel
Why is it 72 degrees Fahrenheit outside in the beginning of new year in a few days
fucking hell Lexus made some dumb designs
who puts a bolt literally touching the firewall
Uhhh Ford
hmm this came across my rec list today https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GX79IILLDlE

Alright
Hypothetical time
All car parts are now magically mechanically compatiable. What would be some of the worse combinations. E.g.
- VW W8 engine
- Early 2000s Chrysler Town and Country transmission
- Back end of a 1970s Ford Pinto
- Cadillac MagneRide suspension
Northstar V8
Nissan CVT
Nanikore wins
I need compressed air can to remove dust grr
Got 1 vcg off
Working on 2nd
Doesn't look too terrible I don't think
Not dreadfully sludgy
If you want the definition of a choked engine
replace the ICE in a Prius with a rotary
Carbon Lock Guaranteed ™️
@indigo coral So what was the actual problem? Gaskets went and took a poop?
what was the knocking then?
Is this an issue?
Inside front valve area
Not bad at all. Very little sludge, if any.
@fathom socket
Back together, let's see if it runs
New spark plugs, new vcg, new spark plug seals
Inb4 doesn't somehow
We'll see
Yes I know the battery is still disconnected. We're gonna clean the poles then hook it back up
It's running
That's always a good sign.
it honestly feels a bit faster
And ran great
idk if that's possible for new plugs to make it quicker but it feels like it
Yep, only two extra bolts (intentionally)
plugs that aren't rotten really do make a difference
hell, making sure the plugs are tightened to spec also makes a huge difference
don't ask me how I know
they werent super bad but they were clearly worn a bit
@civic girder carbon makes it run better
Its a engine additive if you really think about it
lmao
What do you think of this picture of my dads car when it was dirty at the caravan site (Took on IPhone XS )
Thanks I take photography in school have a proper DSLR and my small drone company but nothing beats this phone for ease of use and just how goo they come out
nice
Once I get a job.
I'm gonna hire someone to do a drawn commission of my cars.
Nice what type of job you going for?
One that gives me money in exchange for labor.
I've been expanding my options recently.
😂
I just own my own company here in Scotland that’s gives my at 16 more than enough money
I have no start up capital.
Despite what politicians say, economy could be better, and jobs could be more available.
You want dirty car?
Yeah it took my brother about a year to get any job
that's what the RX-7 looked like before I bought it
That’s not really dirty just paint chipping off it
it was *filthy
nah nah, it was dirty
and this was like a week and a half after I bought it
Love 4 spoke wheels.
even where the paint wasn't chipping off, you can tell it's a lot cleaner
oh yea, 4 spokes are underrated
Yeah well done
My car is quite dirty too haha.
3 and 4 spoke wheels were good.
Seen this today at Asda Linwood or for Americans Walmart
Too bad they won't work on larger sizes that well.
D i r t
I mean how can you do that ram a metal pole and then land on top of another one
RX-7 needs a wash again too. Got bird splatter on the hood over night. Not even sure how cause afaik there's no birds nest in the pine try that its parked under
I'll probably buy a wheel brush tomorrow.
I need one. My rims are pretty scuffed
I miss it :’ (
Your dream car is a Camry?
Hey, long life if taken care of 😛
Almost any car has a long life when taken care of. But having a realistic dream car is 👌
My dream car.
755 HP of freedom.
Spins the tires in 4th gear at highway speeds.
And it's faster than all those $300k cars.
Look at the big wang.
I'd probably just go with the normal engine, but with the wider body. I think they call it the Grand Sport?
And here I only have 350 hp in the work truck. 😦
Probably beating all of you guys in torque, tho.
D8K350 (258 kW)
Max. effekt vid 2 200 v/min 350 hk
Max. moment vid 1 200–1 600 v/min 1 400 Nm
I don't think your truck makes more torque than mine.
It makes 1100+ foot pounds of torque.
I have a work van that only makes 300 HP and 360 pound feet of torque.
I get 222 lb/ft of torque 👀
I get depression when I floor it
Prius probably has more torque than the RX-7. Not by a lot
RX-7 makes 100lb-ft at like 4.5k rpm as well
Prius is gonna have its torque way low
Might get some engine parts to get something out of it, idk yet
dream car
Camry
this > brought to you by the Corolla gang
6 speed Camry when
Never.
But it does offer a V6.
Something no one else does anymore, so I'll take that.
V6 Corolla when
lol
Also never, but at least we still get a manual.
If it's not a supercharged v6 6mt camry, don't @ me
hot hatch corolla
I have heated seats, close enough.
understandable
lmao
Corolla with a twin turbo LS making like 800 whp
All it really lacks is a bit of torque. Otherwise skip the turbos.
Complexity and price at the cost of durability.

we only ended up with 1 extra bracket and 2 extra bolts in my car 👀
(intentionally)
Weight reduction
there was this stupid bracket that was right up against the firewall, only on the 99 cars
later years did away with it
so we did too
lol
lol
Now you got a real racecar
👀 2 pounds saved makes it do 4s to 60 right
Make that 1s
ah ok
I might get a Miata.
Get a Mazdaspeed NB
maybe.
Turbo for coolness
If I could get one... maybe? I'm honestly more interested in lightness and simplicity.
oh a Z3 M would be fun.
Shite wifi
Now a Genesis G70 wagon....
Get the clownshoe @dense shard
Thatd be the dream
http://www.mazda-speed.com/albums/album407/DSC00870_Gallery.jpg How is this bad tho?
I think it looks nice.
hey Monte I'll buy your Corolla for 5k and you can get a Miata :D
I'd part with my 'rolla for 30k.
sh*t
How about 30k Vietnamese dollars
if someone offered me 10k for my Rx id hand them the keys right there
retail is ~5k
worth it.
The Louis Rossman videos have gotten way better since his cats started making more and more appearances.
@fathom socket What do you have for a work truck? And do you know what engine it has? 👀
Me?
I have a 2006 Chevy Express 3500 with the 6.0l V8.
My truck is a 2006 Chevy Silverado 3500 SRW with a built 6.6l Duramax Diesel with 600+ whp and 1100 pound feet of torque.
Surprisingly the tranny is holding up.
I redid the rear end.
I kept it with 4.10 ratio.
But used upgraded gears.
The driveshaft is stock.
I have kryptonite front ball joints.
And a Yukon gear and axle upgraded sway bar.
Along with bilstein shocks front and rear.
Then yeah, you have better torque than me xD
You have 1,490 Nm. I have 1,400
Didn't know Bugatti Veyron had this Black and Blue color. Just like my GTA 5 car.
looks hella nice
ah blue and dark blue ^
But it's a different car in the music video. So it could very well be black and blue.
it has black rim too in the video.
@civic spoke What vehicle do you have?
My work vehicle is a Volvo FE 350
350 hp, 1,400 Nm xD
Ah.
It's built as a dumper truck.
You have that much?
Oh sorry.
My brain isn't working.
You mean a dump truck.
I thought you meant a Volvo car.
🤣
It's 11,000 kg's unloaded. xD
I though it's a volvo semi truck xD
Really?
It's limited to 56 mph.
If it was a semi it would have waaay more torque.
I took my truck to 116 MPH once.
I was scared to death.
A pickup should not go that fast.
70~80 kmh is the sweet spot for my work truck.
It was still speeding up too.
12th gear, right in the middle of the powerband.
It revvs like 1,100 rpm in 12th going 60 kmh.
Mine does it in twice that
Work truck might only be able to do 55 mph. But I can carry lots and lots.
Up to 17,000 kg's 👌
I can't haul that much.
:(
I've towed a 18,000 loader setup before, and it had no issue.
Heaviest I have been was just past 29,000 kg. Tad overweight. Real sluggish to drive.
https://www.theguardian.com/business/2019/dec/31/carlos-ghosn-escaped-japan-hiding-in-a-musical-instrument-case This keeps getting better and better.
Oof that's news from last year
That was posted today.
He bailed on bail.
This is a new story. And it's pretty huge considering he basically told the Japanese legal system to get fucked.
^ what he said 🙃
No
Look buddy. WE got the burgers, WE got the pizza, and WE got the ego.
Americans use imperial systems. They'll always be inferior
Lol
It doesn't matter how long it is, but about hiw you use it 😉
Just think... We're going 100 km/h instead of 62 mph.
It's also way easier to do calculations with etc
Still... I like the European take on American measurement.
we refuse to use it
this is stupid
my car has 16 inch wheels
Inches DO have a use. Car wheel measurements.
right
But that's quite odd, since the width is measured in mm
Tyre size is mm/%/"
oh right
I like using both metric and standard
Metric is nice for super precise tasks but if need to cut something quick and it doesnt need to be bang on ill just use standard
I just use metric in all cases
Omg forester sti1!!1
Another thing is i know from fingertip tk first knuckle is an inch and wrist to elbow is about a foot so its an easy physical reference
Somebody: "I'm 6 ft 4"
Me: calculating 6x30.48 + 4x2.54 = 193cm
Well all of my body parts are larger than the imperial system xD
I could use metric just fine if given a few months to get used to it.
Living in Japan didn't fuck with me too much.
Also my entire area is built around standard land is split in square miles
And one square mile contains 640 acres
The body measurements for imperial are super inaccurate.
If you need to measure something, get a ruler.
Its a rough estimate like im loking at a massive bolt want to know if its two or two and 1/4
A ruler isnt always handy when im for say the last time i used it up in the back of a combine trying to check if a bolt was 1in or 15/16 id have had to climb down get a tape measure or both wrenches when i can take a quick on finger measurement which for me is pretty good
Then you got lucky.
Another time not to long ago i broke a shear bolt on an auger no tape measure handy couldnt find half the bolt used my finger measurement to check to see if a 1in long bolt would work

lmao
Not bad
Is that linus lmao
yes
😂
Happy New Year's
^
lol
c'mon Land Rover... really
That looks like it'll snap off at the first hint of a real weight.
nobody is gonna tow with that lmao
if you want to tow, get an F350.
It's like the Urus having a tow hitch
A lot op people are going to tow with a Defender, trust me
but doing calculations on rims is both tho, we use inch to do the overall package, like 19" and 8" width, but the boltholes are measured in mm like 5 holes 120mm radius, and then you have the offset also measured in mm
and tires are kinda the same, width is mm and tire wall is % of width but then it "fits" a 19" rim
but its kinda easier to use inches there otherwise it would need another measurement anyways not mm, bcs that would make a 22" rim being a 559mm and who going around saying "ey I got that big 559mm wheels on ma MB"
Yeah for wheel diameters it's quite annoying to use metric xD But them sizes would be on round cm dimensions probably, if that was the system
yeah probably going dm but thats too big of a step unless you do 5,1 5,2 etc, which in turn would make more wheel options but even more annoying to choose
5cm is a big step, that's 2" xD
was speaking dm (decimeters) tho, so only an increase of 1cm if going from 5,1dm to 5,2 😄
Aaaaaaaaaaaah yes I see
Wow
Well could also take it in steps of .2
So 3.4dm, 3.6, 3.8, 4.0, 4.2, 4.4, 4.6, 4.8, 5.0... etc
yes and that would be closer to 1 inch too (2,54 cm) but would still leave more options for fitment and looks
Well if you don't know better... 😉
why on Earth would you tow with a compact suv
If you need towing performance, get a pickup truck
well for example, the swedish law with its driving licences, class B (regular car) allows a total weight of 3500kg (car + trailer) and that makes the weirdest choices sometimes, which makes it more dangerous to drive with a trailer, say a car weight about 1200kg they it can pull a trailer of 2300kg
and you must pay and have a driving test for both B+ (other countries gets this by default) and BE (extended even more) which allows for 4250kg and basically no limit respectivly
wow, the basic licence here allows you to drive 26000lbs
wow almost 12000kg
thats a fkn truck 😄
must correct BE allows for car (3500kg) + trailer (3500kg)
can also drive an RV on normal license
over that you need C which is truck licence and im getting it when i can
RV must be registraded on B if you gonna drive it, most are, bigger are C
what's the process of getting higher class licenses there?
for B(car), C(truck) and D(buss) you need to take the regular first, which is paying a lot for lessons, tests and other things you might or not need, then you take a teoretical test and after a driving test, if you fail one or both you have a limited time to do them before you must do both again.
A(MC) is different, you have A1 light, A2 medium and A heavy which is age restricted only
@indigo coral People in Europe tow with SUVs all the time
It works just fine, but also because we don't have many pickup trucks for sale anyway
On the other hand, why would you need a pickup truck specifically to tow something?
in europe overall the roads are too small anyways
france is like walking roads as driving roads
i would much like a SVT raptor tho
Most certainly
well they do.. exept you probably cant open your doors after
Maybe where you live but over here they don't fit at all
ah I see, the more north you get the more space?
No?
oh, thats tight then, the "standard" parking is 2,5m width, but most is smaller
huh, here its percieved as recklessly stupid to tow with a SUV/car because theres so many trucks around, and its dirt cheap to rent one if you need to
i think the smallest cars that have tow hooks as option are golfs or a3's
I mean, there's probably a misunderstanding between the type of trailer. It's not like we use a Golf in Europe to tow something like this:
https://i.pinimg.com/originals/c6/d5/15/c6d5154ce0d25d06ecb888ac7dcadd0e.jpg
that seems to me like 3 people in the world do that 👀
Europe are using a totally different rating for the hitches as well.
I think you want like 10% tounge weight in Europe?
i actually don't know if there are length restrictions on the European Drivers Licence 🤔
And you can only tow a maximum of 750 kg with a normal drivers license.
You don't really have to care about the length restrictions when towing with a normal car.
Max length for Sweden is 24 meters, 25.25 meters for certain stuff.
i mean 4250kg is maximum you're allowed to drive around with BE
no wait
thats b96....
It's 7,000 kg with BE.
be is trailer max of 3500
imo its a bit irresponsible to let people drive around with any trailer when they never had any lessons, 750kg is still 750kg 🤔
europe is such a crying baby, what is correct, about liceses but that gets ignored...
It's not actually 750kg, is a max combination weight of 3500kg or, if the combination exceeds that, max 750kg for the trailer alone
If the car weighs 1500kg, I'm perfectly fine to tow up to 2000kg without my B license
That's where you're wrong. Kiddo.
Only allowed to tow a maximum of 750 kg with a normal B license.
And it depends a lot on what car is towing. Many cars aren't even rated for 750kg
the car itself is rated to tow a certain amount, and if the car is close to 3500kg and with trailer goes above that its 750kg, at least it was when i took my license
the car can have a weight of 1500 and towing weight of 1500 or more then its okay, even if it can be dangerous
in the car papers it states for each license too
Yeah. I'll see if I can check some cars.
So, I'm right 😉 I've checked it multiple times before, because I also thought it was a maximum of 750kg. But what I and Lollipop stated is correct xD
Also: even my Corsa is allowed to tow up to 850kg
Oh, yeah. You're right.
I just checked with a Volvo V90
Those are the numbers for a V90 D4
The Peugeot 308 we had could tow up to 1650kg
Which isn't bad for the type of car
Släpvagn = Trailer
Yeah.
Most trailers are un-braked
Aren't trailers with an auto-brake when loose automatically braked (idk how to describe/name it, but the wire you attach to a fixed point of the car which pull the brakes if the trailer gets of the hitch)
Yeah. But that's just like a parking brake on the trailer.
The wire pulls on the hand brake of the trailer.
that wire is for safety/emergency brake if by any chance the trailer gets unhooked
Yeah.
but most trailers have a pushbrake system
And internet went down. Smh
But how does a braked trailer operate the brakes vs an un-braked trailer? Never seen anything different between the connections
the hitching part has a spring thats light enough so you can reverse, but any harder(ie braking with the car) the spring is squished and something (dont know exactly what happens here) makes the brake apply
our trailer needs that spring fixed, we cant reverse with it
Huh. I learned something new today. Those trailers that have those emergency brake things are considered braking trailers.
Whole different set of restrictions for un-braked trailers.
Ugh.
wait what? its only the handbrake thing needed or the sprung hitch and wire?
The wire and everything is part of it.
okay, bcs ive seen trailers with the brake, but without the sprung hitch
Heya. Internet is working again
gratz
wanna see even funnier thing
You know, if it had a tow hitch.
I know of a Citroen Nemo that had funky stuff.
Hey, so still talking about my issue from a week or 2 ago with my car not riding smooth... I decided to check my "shocks" or "suspension" (i know nothing about cars) for the front drivers and passenger tires. Does this set off any red flags?
That's front passenger
This is front driver side
Is this normal?.. It doesn't seem like it at all from just a none car person stand point
Wasn't here when it was mentioned before - How is it not riding smooth?
The springs themselves look alright in my eyes. Can't really say much about the shocks, though.
Hit a nasty pot hole and severely bent the rear passenger rim, i got that fixed and everything seemed good for a little bit
And then i realized something doesn't feel right
After talking with people on this discord for about 2 days found my front passenger rim is ever so slightly bent, enough to feel it when going 40 mph+
Not bent enough to lose air pressure but enough to have me feel the vibrations and kinda bumpiness
Hitting the pot hole might have messed with the allignment.
or wheel bearings
I'm not sure how to detect "wobble"
Looks like an older car. So it might just have worn bushings as well.
Wee. We are the fun crowd here.
It's a 2006 nissan sentra s-se
An easy way to check the bushings is to lift the car and check for play when you move the wheel.
I don't have anything to lift the car 😅 my rim comes in Friday for the slightly bent one on the front passenger side
Do I tell the mechanic to check for it since its a buddy of my grandfather?
Don't have a small jack in the trunk?
Yeah
My grandfather had one but he lost it
The thing is? I haven't driven the car in a little bit due to me waiting for this rim to be shipped, I had to drive it for like 10 minutes to go and cash a check into the bank, and the car had very minimal (abnormal) vibrations? But I remember when I had to drive it an hour down to my father's house and back if I hit 40+ it felt very bumpy on the front passenger side
It's all confusing as shit, I know if I had a mechanic drive it around for about 30 minutes they would probably find out in an instant.
Have you had it balanced?
My car shook like a son of a bitch, particularly the steering wheel, when my rims were imbalanced
@grand axle
I mean, my grandfather took it to the shop when I had to get the rim changed due to classes. I'm not sure
But @indigo coral it's only when it really hits like 40-50 mph+
that's how mine was
60+ it shook like crazy
Below that it was fine
Does your steering wheel shake?
I mean, isn't that a side effect (slightly) with vibrations of the car?
Or well shakiness
have steelies that vibrate bcs of unbalance, if you have a spare wheel or someone else does, try with that and see if its unbalance
sometimes, though when my fronts were out of balance it was mostly the steering wheel that shook, less so the whole car.
Whole car kinda bounces due to messed up rim, steering wheel shakes for that possible reason 😅
look into getting wheels balanced
@dense shard Remember the last time, when we talked about the huge percentage of EVs sold in 🇳🇱 last month?
Well, it turns out that the top 6 of all cars sold last month were EVs...
- Tesla Model 3
- Audi E-Tron
- Nissan Leaf
- Renault Zoe
- MG ZS
- Hyundai Kona Electric
In total, 22.958 EVs were registered last month, with a total of 42.270 cars registered. So 54%, more than half were EVs 😮
Cool
i guess for Germany to be that way vw needs to step up the ev game, since the top 4 are vw only 👀
A reliable ev
vw announced an id.3 with 550km range, what would make it equal to the range of an little gasoline up, if they look at it like the golf (its their ev version of a golf), i believe it will be reliable, but not this year the 550km range model...
butit comes with its spanish twin in September
im looking forward to see how the first wave of it performs in summer
Interesting.
Quite curious to next this year, with the Corsa-e/e-208/e-2008/DS 3 e-Tense, ID.3, Mii/e-Up/Citigo, Mustang Mach-E, Model Y, Polestar 2, MX-30...
Lots of new EVs, most of which in the more "affordable" segments
Ima hookup a 9 volt battery to my car to make it a hybrid
10 of those can replace 1 old car battery
10*50p = 5 bucks, way cheaper than a car battery
Math right there folks
Is anyone knocking on your door yet
NASA doesn't want to get the truth out
Well no joke, 300 of those in series is 360V, but only ~ 2.5Ah
Model 3 has 230Ah, so ~ 100 times those 300 in parallel == 360V @ 250Ah > Model 3
So you only need 30000 rechargable AA batteries
Or lead-acid car batteries, 12V @ 60Ah, 30 in series, that 4 times in parallel to only 120 lead acid batteries required
Ez
Or, just run hydrogen in a combustion engine
Finally figured out Mazda's approach to EVs.
They're doing what GM and BMW did.
EV with a gas generator.
It's not exactly a Toyota Prius.
I know
I quite like the theoretical simplicity of uhhh... series hybrids.
esp with it being a smol boi rotary
I imagine it will be tiny.
iirc they're gonna be 1 rotors too
And just enough to keep you going home.
So Mazda's approach is just hybrids...
Mazda's approach is a lot like BMWs, afaik
yep
where it's EV till the battery dies
Pretty great. Electric 90% of the time, and gas for the longer trips.
then you get gas powered electric motor
I dig it.
different generator and much much larger battery for the Mazda.
yep
but yeah.
@civic girder rotary hydrogen fuel cell /s
now this sounds like what the Mirai should be
Also... styling isn't half bad.
Cute
solely because rotary
Generic, but it's... yeah cute.
Still... a bit silly the emblem is taller than the grill.
Eh
I just hope Mazda doesn't fuck it up. Apparently the CX-30 is good.
my complaints with the design are the plastic trim bits
But dammit the suspension still bugs me.
really hurts the aesthetic imo
Oh yeah the plastic trim is a universal annoyance for most crossovers.
plastic cladding looks like ass
Because it is ass.
it saves weight, but looks awful
Usually the plastic trim doesn't replace metal. It's just placed over things to make it look more rugged.
Like the CX-30, Subaru Baja, Aztec, and uhhh... HR-V?
Audi was a huge offender with the A4 Allroad thing.
Subaru Crosstrek does it to a lesser extent, but it's still there.
Also the plastic is supposed to reduce the visual size of a car... which I'm a bit blah on.
imo it just makes it stand out as a cheap ass car
Yeah. 100% agreed on that
Give it up to Nissan for making a car with less plastic than more.
Too bad you still don't want it
unless you for some reason like waiting at the shop for a new transmission
@civic girder is that rx7 yours?
idk which one you are referring to, but I do have an RX-7
Yep
this is the pic I'm using as my pfp
Yep. I bought it off the original owner
even better!
hey whatever keeps it runnin right?
that's why I've made a few mods
Yea. The smog pump pulley is all messed up, so I just decided to fuck it and yanked the belt off
using a different alternator pulley too, since you need to have minimum two belts
I dont know too much about first gens other than the fact that they have my favorite body styling of the entire rx7 family
is it a series 2 gsl?
Red is the smog pump chillin in the back doing nothing.
Green is my aftermarket dual alternator belt pulley (on an FC alternator)
yellow is a second alternator belt running in place of the smog pump belt.
You need two belts on the water pump (the a/c belt does not drive the water pump), and so if you delete the emissions, you only have that single alternator belt. You can run single alt belt, but it will slip at high rpm; which is bad. These dual pulleys are like $30 USD, and pretty easy to slap on, so there's no reason not to. You can relocate the alternator and run a serpentine belt instead, but that requires fabbing a custom alt mount and getting a custom belt.
And it is a Series 2, but a GS; sadly not a GSL. Would kill to have rear discs, but I'm stuck with drums until I can find a GSL rear end
early 80s cars are the golden age imo
Oh yea
I love the FB so much, and the carb rotaries have fewer issues than the injected ones (though you can fix those issues with modern fuel system)
i was thinking about buying a second gen civic at one point
or join the rotary gang
how much do fbs go for?
Highly highly depends, but market value is usually about $4k for a good shape one. They can be higher if they are mint or cleanly modded and in really good shape. They can also be lower if they are in mediocre condition. But they can be cheap af if they are broke
usd?
yes
Are FB's cheaper than FC's?
Gotcha
fcs ive seen around my area are like 7k for a meh quality
strange
They are around 3-3.5k in my area
they're usually $5-6k around here for n/a stock ones
but LOOK AT HIM!!!
Will def. look into an fb though. I love rotaries
Hell yea
i hate to be one of those skyline people but I was also planning on buying an r32 gtst
Mine was $2k, decent shape. Good interior, besides unavoidable wear. Good engine, and stuff. But fucked fuel system
i mean i could get all 3 of these cars for like 25k
Or get a new Corolla hatch for 23k.
Tempting offer lol
or get an FD, wait that's probably a bad idea
You want a daily driver to go with the FD.
yea
Yellow fd with black rims. 😍
you'd be talking $300 daily and an FD project car, lmao
I do need to yeet it out
kinda excited
cardboard on the exhaust mani?
apparently theres a bill in my state to remove the emissions test
Yeah
idk how far itll go
...
Cardboard is the best at fire resistance
metal plates designed for the car are like $15
Why would they do away with emissions testing. It's great taxable revenue.
Cardboard is free
too too too
https://streamable.com/nqesb
clean af exhaust right here
what u got
he's got a new Corolla hatch
I like the color
I'd get one if it had twice the hp :>
Its time, 20b swap your RX7, I'll swap an E46 M3 engine in @civic girder
Here we go. Next to a previous gen Auris.
I drove my daily for the first time in a while today. It was an odd feeling not having to turn a key, or pull a choke, and it felt especially weird not having to wait 15 minutes for the car to warm up
The cars changed less than I expected between generations.
yea, honestly
Then again I think the 2019 looks much better.
LED headlights are excellent.
Also gotta hashtag save the manuals.
lol
I get it, but I think the movement is a bit silly.
It's all talk, no action. They diss anyone who doesn't drive manual which really kinda pushes people away.
the majority of people that spam #savethemanuals are dumbasses who are bandwagoning
(also zf 8hp > manual)
😄
I'll stick to manual for the most part because I enjoy it.
ye, but you actually bought one
not just bandwagoning for the reddit karma or whatever
or spewing vitriol in the youtube comments of every review of an automagical car
oh crap, I knew I forgot something. >_<
lmao
Maybe I should have tested the Corolla with the CVT, but that would have added over a grand in price.
non-hybrid CVTs are kinda unreliable anyways
cvt is boring
not necessarily
I personally like automatic (because I don't know how to drive stick) that have real gears
(or a tesla w/o a gearbox)
I'm gonna try to go karma whoring. I'm sure reddit has a save the manuals subreddit.
Have fun
I'm gonna be so popular (online) and make so many (internet) friends.
I'll be (internet) famous. "Man says he drives manual on the internet, everyone is very impressed."
And I just found a new issue I never expected with manuals. Back, butt, and knee problems with using the clutch. For some reason I never expected this. (also the manual subreddit is more or less dead.)
NISSAN CVT OR BUST
wtf lol
