thats not as hard as some think actually
It's easier than any other engine swap
Wish I was rich and whatever and could afford a Model 3
I'd drive the wheels off that car
since you're yeeting that big ass block of iron for a tiny copper coil
Since it's cheap to drive
So a 2007 WRX that's been raced for 300k miles and somehow hasn't blown up yet @civic girder
no
π€
Probably an EV or another Prius
(or something like a Prius)
I'd drive just for fun, which I'm not supposed to do right now xD
I actually like sitting in my passenger compartment
https://youtu.be/c2bknPS7YuQ THIS THING RIPS
Check out our coverage from the Modern Modern street hemi shootout! We took the ARH #PriuSRT8 out and hit the track! We managed a 9.38 this weekend and couldnβt be happier! Big thanks to all of our sponsors.

LMAO
Lol
haha yeah buddy
The problem with that build is that you basically sit where the rear passenger's legroom is supposed to be
i dont think that was meant to dd
but think about if it was lol
Just do that
I mean, a rotary is basically a bike engine with how small it is, lmao
single rotor Prius race car
ofc
That would be a RIOT
billet eccentric shaft
lol
I wouldn't mind doing a corolla swap tho. Slap a Corolla engine and tranny in it
Is that even possible?
there have been prototypes
yea, honestly a diesel wankel would be lit af
id like to see that
Speaking of cars though, I need to pickup some parts tomorrow
I'm getting roof bars for my 'rolla tomorrow.

ngl I'd probably get punched.
I couldn't resist laughing at the guy who wrecked his car.
tbh same
It's not that we're dicks. We just believe in openly dispensed karma.
karma's a bitch
Okay joking aside. being an ass in what is usually an event that hinges on the good will of the property owner is a huge no no.
So doing a burn out in the strip mall is likely the reason it's at a strip mall and not the local nice shopping center.
yeah
... okay maybe not laughter but rather making a quick and quiet exit before the cops are called.
I was at a big mall and there was some group of ricers meeting up. Not like a c&c, just like 10-15 of them having rev battles in their FRS and stuff
I am curious to see what the local people say about the new 'rolla hatchback. I've had 3 people come up to me to ask about it.
I think it looks real nice
interior is surprisingly fancy, particularly in white
I like the blue exterior, white interior
thought you had the darker black/blue/yah that
Flame blue is a brilliant color tho.
Though I do feel it's a bit... overrated?
It's the color Toyota expects you to get? It's the canon choice. And if it was the only choice I'd have gotten it.
Galactic Aqua Mica is fancy af. That being said red is pretty striking as well.
I've seen a new hatch in that Nike highlighter yellow color
It's.......surprisingly not ugly
except that the owner swapped the Toyota badges for Scion ones
Curious.
That being said I wouldn't mind getting the JDM toyota badges.
The front badge is different in Japan for some reason. Not sure why tho.
But I'm not willing to mess with the radar sensor which is just behind it. heh
oof
it be like that
yea
yep
Lol

I'm adulting. Bought new wipers for the car.
Anyone here have any idea if a 1999 2 Door Chevy Tahoe 4x4 can have a 2001 7.3 liter Ford powerstroke be put into it?

@unreal terrace your car should run another 100k miles if you take care of it :)
Don't mind the check engine light it's a fool
@civic spoke who would do such a thing?!
@fathom socket That picture reminds me that I don't have a working thing for my seat belt.
@normal temple I know, right??? Soon I might even replace my blinker fluid.
Because it's in park
@civic spoke
My mother doesn't use her seatbelt and she should
Because she was going 187 kilometers per hour in this car.
I think it's 116mph
It can go up to 198mph for having a custom Turbo
wow
Even reparking the car from driveway <-> street without seatbelt feels extremely odd, putting is on just happens automatically
^^
I feel naked without a seatbelt.
The only times you'll find me without one is when I'm in my work truck and tipping with it. Stuff like that.
The only time I don't wear a seatbelt is when its nasty af
I use a seatbelt on a bus when I was a kid but no one else
I always naturally put my seatbelt on when I get in a vehicle
I hate the seatbelts on a bus, only one over the lap
A seatbelt must be a 3-point one xD
At least it keeps you in the seat in case the bus rolls over or something
Not wearing a seatbelt feels weird to me so I always wear it
True, but still feels odd
Yeah I get that
200mph imagine not living in a country where you can drive legally at that speed
hell please don't do that on a highway π
listen to music and/or have someone else in the car to talk to
don't text and drive, and avoid talking on the phone while driving
if you get tired or weary, pull over at a gas station to take a break and maybe get a snack
if there's nowhere to pull over and you are on the verge of falling asleep, sing along to whatever music is playing
I've driven stints longer than 5 hours by myself before, and it's honestly not that bad
all you really need is something to think about or listen to, or a discussion to be had
audiobooks can work, as long as its something that won't distract you too much or make you sleepy
podcasts can also work, but again nothing too distracting or sleep inducing
key is to keeping your mind occupied enough to not feel like dying of boredom, but free enough to focus on the road
Twisty roads too
Plus snow/ice conditions
Was a great time
But I had to makeup for lost time haha
5-6 hours you can do without a break if you're well rested and well fed
Yup, honestly its not about the driver, more so the passengers
The passengers will def want a break some time
yea, depends on the passengers
At least for me, I usually never need a break when my passengers do LOL
sounds about right
Yep
Made it through though
But probably never doing it again unless I have a co driver
good idea
longest stint I've ever pulled was like 7 hours
but that was with a couple breaks
was def needed
live and learn
my Prius is pretty comfortable, even on 7 hour trips
but my god, my dad's Ford Fusion is uncomfortable
even after 20 minutes my whole lower half hurts
Kinda like my parent's Mercedes
Those seats are hard asf
So your ass goes numb after an hour
The Ford's seat material and cushion is fine
but the way the seats are set up and how you sit in them is awful
like, your ass sits basically on the ground and then your legs stretch up into the air basically
and the back of the seat is always too far forwards somehow, even if you change the angle
I'm fairly comfortable driving our explorer, but it's not really that much of a "performance" seat
I've never sat in a Ford post 2008 that I didn't find uncomfortable in some way
the only Fords I've sat in that didn't make my ass hurt have been those older blob Taurus
The explorer has pretty comfy seats
I was pretty comfortable last time I drove 12 hours
It's made of metal too and it's about 4 pounds
noice!
Just like my wallpaper :')

@fathom socket I got signatures from the Ford drivers at Watkins Glen, they where all really nice people

My toy model car is home safe from work
She didn't get scratched did she?
Wait, I'm gender assuming.
That's so wrong in 2019.

Idk lol
My sister got me a late Christmas gift at work so I safely took it home without dropping it or scratching it
^
the doors go up :D
Rip. Took my car for a short test drive today after letting it sit overnight, still intermittently having the ticking/knocking/rattling problem
I was joking.
I got cussed out by a GUY for calling him a him.
That's a very fine Ford GT you have.
It's pretty amazing how a 3.5 liter twin turbo V6 makes enough horsepower to be almost as fast as the 755 horsepower 6.2 supercharged Corvette ZR1.
But I'm American, so I'll take the big engine over the little.
Because there's no replacement for displacement.
i kind of wonder what I'd end up getting if I have to replace my car
maybe a Volt?
Those are reliable, decently quick and partly electric
which is nice
Get a 2nd gen Prius
Better than the Volt
3rd gen Prius are aight, but the exterior has some odd looking differences compared to the 2nd gen and the 3rd gen interior sucks. 3rd gen has more power, but you don't really need it.
Prius will have more cargo space than the Volt
Just don't get a Prius C or a Prius V. They are awful in every way
3rd gen looks better from the exterior
XD
Prius+ has a lot of space
I might be biased since I'm a 2nd gen owner
The Prius+ = Prius V = bad
but to be fair
https://www.john2211.nl/Review_prius3/reviewP3_2.jpg
I totally prefer this one
the Prius +/V is better than the Prius C
Yes but > Prius C
the Prius C is the only Prius that really deserves hate
That's like the Toyota Yaris Hybrid isn't it?
ah
I see
Prius C bigger than the Egg (aka Yaris)
liftback is the superior car tho
Apparently, also has the Prius C has a Prius-like interior
The Yaris has it's own hybrid model
People switched from Prius' to Auris/Corolla/CT200h here π
Toyota's hybrid lineup is.....interesting
Atleast they have one
Big car:
Avalon Hybrid
Camry Hybrid
SUV:
RAV4 Hybrid
Sedan:
Corolla Hybrid
Prius
Compact car:
Yaris Hybrid
Prius C
and then you have the Lexus knockoffs of those
like the Lexus HS250h, which is a Corolla hybrid with a Camry hybrid engine and Lexus interior that is heavily inspired by the Prius interior
there was a Highlander Hybrid for a little while, but iirc they discontinued it
the HS was only available for like 4 years
it died pretty fast
except in Japan, where it got a second gen
I don't think we have the Highlander Hybrid anymore
I stand corrected
I just say a review of it, so x doubt
It is available in the US again
The old one did, the new one didn't, did it?
That's what I've seen the review of xD And that one has the 2.5L I4

Nearly two decades ago, #Toyota introduced the car-like #ToyotaHighlander. It was based of...
We get neither so idk
They'll probably start selling is soon
I see
Toyota in 2006: we want to get rid of the dull Corolla name, here's the fresh fancy Auris
Toyota in 2019: Auris name is unknown, we go to the praisen and reliable Corolla name
:boi:
I never knew the Auris was the Corolla
My whip β₯
cause we never had the Auris
It's not the best but it stays running
Nissan π No idea what model
2002 Nissan pathfinder
Uhm the 2nd gen Auris was sold as Scion iM / Corolla iM iirc
Ah yes, the Pathfinder
Ah a Pathfinder... Chances of seeing those around here is 0.00000001%
I don't think I can count how many I've seen on the side of the highway
oor count how many have cut me off
true but ive beaten the shit out of mine
i mean as you can see the huge dent in the door
i think i thew a wrench at it while being frustrasted at it
My Prius also has battle scars
hail dents, dented driver's door, I think the rear bumper is still lightly dented
the alternater was a bitch to replace
but the front end got fixed after the accident
ah see, I've only replaced an alternator once. And that was on my Mazda, where it sits directly on top of the engine in plain view with ridiculously easy access
My parents car also has 2-3 dents in the rear now π’ 4 cars got vandalized yesterday of which my parents car is one
cries
damn, that sucks
i had to replace one on my truck and the one on my sisters which was soo muck easier to replace
Look how easy this sucker is to get at
and soon im supposed to fix the clutch on my sisters i hate that little truck
it breaks all of the time
inb4 my fuel pump dies again
i would get a picture of where my alt is but its like 2 am
3 am here π
I have a 12" sub in the back too
oof
It used to be 2 bit that was too much
But
to the point where the rearview mirror would shift
oof
Well, I should probably go to bed
but before I go
I must spread the one true way
r o t a r y p o w e r

faster than a Prius, slower than a CRV
lmao yes
Oh yea, I noticed today when driving that my vacuum leak makes cool noises

sounds expensive
$35
lmao
German parts ain't that expensive :P
I think the RX-7 oil filter was like $2
https://streamable.com/hd7da
OK. I gotta get off for real.
But here's some real brap. No idea why she did this that day, and she's never done it again, but she sounded like a peripheral port
I'd like to still have 0.0001 tork
yea, gn

Land Rover Discovery V8i with custom made exhaust. It has headman headers going into a Y 2.5" pipe then to a single 2.5" pipe then split into 2 2.5" pipes to the back boxes with 4" tail pipes
Belgium
I'm assuming y'all aren't from around here.
Because where I live stateside we drive dually trucks and pull horse and grain trailers.
@dry fern where
I dont remember who helped me with a new car stereo for a nephews old audi, but thank you. We got him a really nice one and he is ecstatic
Even bought a parking camera attachment ^^
Nice
Yeah?
wot, the volt is way better than Prius. Better aesthetics, much quicker, more efficient + more EV range
Particularly the 2nd gen volt
Interior is even decently nice
If we're doing apples to apples.
I'd say the Prius Prime has better styling than the Volt.
Gen 1 Volt was flawed. Gen 2 fixed all the issues.
I disagree about the styling myself, but to each their own I suppose
Too bad the model 3 is so overpriced, that is one of the few cars that's both fun and efficient
Everyone and their mom has a Prius where I live
I get blinded everytime at night by their headlights
I want to be that guy.
I will probably be that guy once I get projector headlights for my car.
aaaaaaaAaaaaaa
Or what aftermarket lights should I get for my E46?
what about the originals from the late M3? the LED ones
A lot more $$$ compared to just buying a retrofit kit.
The retrofit kit is like β¬200.
and the originals? where i come from retrofits are illegal so OEM is usually the way to go here
Like β¬700 for the pair.
ok....thats a slight difference
I put a set of LEDs in my truck, they are super bright.
must be nice to live in a country where you can do that and not get your car impounded^^
I THINK that I can do it with any issues to my car. I should probably ask the inspection place about it, tho.
I know that I gotta align it correctly
That's for sure.
I honestly just want better lights on my car.
(And colder temps on them)
@indigo coral
No, the Volt has drastically reduced cargo capacity compared to the Prius. Trust me. The trunks on those are tiny.
Even my dad's Ford Fusion Hybrid has less trunk space than my Prius, even though the Fusion is a much physically larger vehicle
Yes, the Volt is faster. Looks are subjective, so eh.
Volt is a plug in, so ofc it has more EV range. MPG when you don't charge it, probably comparable to the Prius
Trunk is bigger in the Prius Prime, but interior volume wise they're near identical.
Cabin space I would imagine is quite similar yea
But 11 cubic feet isn't that tragic.
Depends on the person's needs
I need all the room I can get to carry my hopes and dreams
That's 2 stroke bro
I don't call it premix because afaik you can't buy gas premixed with 2 stroke
You can, its called peeing in the tank wait what
oof
If you get the Prime, yea
But usually you don't find those on the used market. At least I've never seen one on
ones abouta pop up, iβm selling ours
I imagine they sell fairly quick
I wanna stick a 9 volt battery in my car and call it a hybrid
Lmao
Man this Ford dealer is lame
I've been here about an hour. Does it really take this long to do an oil change?
I was gonna go to the BMW dealer
My dad made me take his car in
But they don't have the floormats in stock and I'm waiting till it comes tomorrow
Also the Mercedes dealer had my oil change done in 30 mins
And they were trying to charge 2 hrs labor
huehuehue
I swear. This dealer is gonna take two hours so they can charge two hours
lol
Maybe
I got an oil extractor so I don't even have to lift the car anymore
And do all the oil changes at home
I'm hongry, I didn't have lunch
Except for my car since the filter is at the bottom anyways
That's what's nice about the RX-7
Everything but the drain plugs are on top
And the fuel pump isn't inside the tank
its really come in handy with how often I've had to change the fuel pump
I know that feel
I cut my arm in my fuel tank lol
Jesus
Was a fun time
God damn
2000 of those miles were from driving to California
But yea, I gotta service my Prius and my dad's Lexus soon
Idk how we got the other 3000 lol
The Lexus is a mystery since we only bought it a couple months ago and it has 99k miles
Glhf reaching the plugs if its a V6
My Prius hasn't been changed since spring and I've probably driven at least 5k miles
Nah, it's a transverse 4 banger. Basically a luxury Prius
Americans change oil way to often xD
wait till you get a rotary
I usually go a year on the Prius before a change, sometimes longer
You don't have to change it if it's all consumed by the engine π
π€· Ima stand by my oil change intervals
Replace oil with water
Lmao
Well yeah rotary is different xD
12A is wet sump
Mine just gets it once a year, interval is 18.5k miles
I drive about 10k a year
Chech the US interval for the Prius, I'll check the EU interval xD
Maybe a European oil vs US oil in terms of quality
Idk, doubt
I just use a GM Dexos2 5w30 can, which is probably the same as in the US
Idk what oil the Prius takes. I've never done a change on it myself
The RX-7 takes 10W40 conventional
Yeah I don't change it myself, but the dealer does and I have one at home to use in my and my parents car
I'll change the Prius oil myself this time
If I don't, I'd be too lazy to go to Toyota and just take it to a quick lube place
Yea
Oof
Not a fan of this car
too uncomfortable
visibility is not great
brakes are touchy
and no bluetooth (cause it broke) and it doesn't support audio over USB and it doesn't have an aux port
I need to get Bluetooth in my car.
How does Bluetooth break
no idea
one day my dad's phone didn't sync with the car and I could never get it to sync again
can't even get my own phone to sync
car doesn't show up on bluetooth devices
Amazing
yea, it's weird
Tried to get him to take it to Ford and get it looked at but he didn't want to
lmao

Rotaries sound so good. π
@civic girder Cleetus McFarland had an old cushman van that's getting a "piston delete"
That's the mystery machine he bought right?
Yeah.
That thing is great, lol. Seems like a 10/10 for a burnout machine.
Yeah.
Hope he doesn't flip it like that one guy.
They had a Chevy van that was just like the Cushman.
I hope so too, but with how much they are endo'ing it, trying to wheelie it, and how much they already 3 wheel, they probably will.
It is, lmfao. I feel bad for Cleetus because he's so damn tall, I feel like he has to wack his head every time in that thing.
I think he's 6 foot 6 inches.
Jeez
I feel your pain, I'm 5 foot 8 inches. #belowaverageheightsquad
Actually, the average adult male height is 5 foot 8 inches.
Oh really? Heck yeah!
I'm short but packed full of muscles.
I work out every day.
And it helps that I build engines.
Particularly LS engines for drag cars.
The way way to make a vehicle fast with an LS, take a junkyard 5.3 or 6.0 from a Chevy truck or van, stick a 76+ MM ebay turbo on it, get an MSD self learning ECU.
And your set to run 10s in the quarter mile.

doesn't matter if the F-150 next to me is faster
Lol.
All I can see is mobile1 getting excited to sell you more engine oil :p
Jokes on them, I've never used Mobile1 oil in my entire life
Got to drive the Explorer today, cause my car is broken lol.
It's huge
- lots of power and hard to see out of ππ
It's an explorer...
mhm. just very different than mine π
I use Mobil1 full synthetic in all my vehicles.
I don't think I have a choice.
π€· I've had terrible experience with Mobil
My car requires synthetic.
Mine too.
I burned 3 quarts of Mobil 1 during a 1000 mile drive
I just use Walmart brand oil, because its the only 10W40 I see that is definitely conventional
I burned no quarts of Castrol during the same 1000 mile drive
Same weight, both synthetic
I never take my cars to the quick lube shop
I've had good luck with Castrol over the years.
But I don't think they make 0w-16 oil.
I'm actually not sure what brand oil I should get for the Prius when I do a change
I actually have no idea
I've never done an oil change on it before
always gone to quick lube places because I'm lazy
I get Mobil1 because my local Costco sells it for $27.99 for a case of 6 quarts.
$30 for 6 quarts?
jesus christ that's expensive
Vesues the auto parts store sell it in 5 quart jugs for $35
I used to pay that for Castrol.
I get only synthetic tho.
In the RX-7, yes I do
Why?
its designed to do that
what
Pretty sure they do.
yea same
How else you gonna lube dem seals?
^
There's no place for the oil to go afterwards.
The RX-7s only burn gas.
and oil
From the factory, Mazda rotary cars are equipped with OMPs (Oil Metering Pumps) that inject motor oil into the combustion chamber to lubricate the apex seals
Look up the channel Rob Dahm.
I think I'll listen to the RX-7 owner.
That's wierd.
Not all rotatarys do that tho.
One of the most common misconceptions is that the Rotary engine burns oil out of fault, this is not necessarily true. The Rotary uses oil squirters that take small metered amounts of oil and mix it into the fuel to lubricate the seals. Gas mileage is very Mehhhhh at mid 20's (supposedlyβ¦. much less in reality.)
All Mazda rotaries, when left stock, burn oil
Okay.
Also another fun fact. Rotaries are reliable... just not very durable.
no wait... hold on.
Do seals count...
Cause ignoring the seals, a rotary ought to be super durable as well.
seals are reliable within their service life as long as you lube them
few moving parts.
Yea, that's why rotaries are actually more reliable
can't drop valves, no springs to deal with.
A guy was showing me his RX-7 and someone asked him if it burned oil. He said it didnt.
Now I understand.
Is that a good idea?
As long as you premix the correct amount and use good 2 stroke, its fine
I don't know much about rotarys.
In fact, OMPs are usually the first thing to go bad on rotaries
I just know that putting diesel in a mazda rotary will make it run backwards.
I'm very familiar with Chevy LS's.
I want to fight it
no really, don't put diesel in.
I'm actually curious.
It won't run.
Yeah.
A revolutionary diesel engine, SKYACTIV-D delivers great fuel efficiency without sacrificing clean emissions. With its world-leading compression ratio of 14:1, SKYACTIV-D provides a fuel economy improvement of 20% over conventional diesel engines and meets exhaust emission standards in countries around the world.
My Toyota is about 13:1
14:1 in Euro markets apparently.
My car can run diesel.
As long as there's an ignition source, diesel should run in a gas engine.
But gas can't run in a diesel.
diesel has different properties
It still works.
Uhhh, diesel is ignited by high compression isn't it
the detonation you'd get from running diesel in a gas motor would be insane
Because I had a guy come in with a complaint of it running rough.
Gasoline engines can run on compression ignition. Mazda does it on purpose even.
And I tore into the fuel system.
Otherwise it's just pinging.
gas needs super high compression to burn
And it was literally running on diesel.
diesel doesn't require as much compression because of how they are designed
@civic girder Wrong. It's the opposite.
Other way around I think.
Gas will burn if I pour it on the ground with a match.
Diesel requires compression to ignite. Gasoline just needs a spark.
Diesel has to be under super high compression to ignite.
I mean to ignite gas off compression
Oh.
ofc gas will light with a spark
Diesels ignites because of the compression.
that's why gas engines are spark ignited, its hella easier than getting enough compression to make it spark on its own
I never pay attention.
bruh
I'm happy to pay that.
if I did it at the dealer it would be around 300, but I just do it myself.
Lemme look at the recipt.
my dad had to pay $91 for just an oil change on his Fusion
my dad's taurus has full warranty until 2023 xD
I'm not willing to deal with the aeropanels on my car.
eh
I never buy a new car.
We've just kind of ignored the car today, since neither me or my dad can be arsed to dig in right at the moment lmao
I always buy used very well maintained cars.
so I've not come to any conclusions as to whether or not my engine is f*cked lol
I wanted new, I got new.
nothing wrong with new or used cars
My Duramax takes 12 quarts.
Id buy a new Model 3 if I was gonna get one, cause the Model 3 is still selling used at or even higher than MSRP
just depends on your preferences, tastes, and finances
If only the Mazda 3 was any good.
Newer Mazda 3s are really good
After Mazda ditched Ford, they got good everywhere
The person I bought it from had a bigger turbo put on it, a tune, and a bigger oil pan.
It originally took 10 quarts.
Seats aren't that comfortable, rear sightlines are beyond tragic, they're not astoundingly quick, fuel economy is merely alright, but the fucking price for the manual... oh and no independent rear suspension.
honestly though, it makes no sense why a Tesla with 15k miles sells for MORE than a brand new one from tesla
Yeah.
The people selling it WISH it was worth more.
particularly now that there's no delay on getting cars
Doesn't mean anyone is buying.
oh no they transact
Then only idiots buy used Model 3s.
yeah
our local SC has dozens of them ready for pickup
theres not a big long wait anymore
Worth the wait.
It's a damn nice car
and I actually like the screen/interior.
I'm in the vast minority though.
Call me old, but I'm not a huge fan of the styling.
Teslas are nice, except for the screen
The sedans are a bit dated now.
the screen pisses me off
The screen is a huge distraction point.
@indigo coral The reason why they were selling em used for more, is because at the time people who didn't put down a deposit for it had to wait another year.
So people would buy them for more.
And putting ALL functions on the screen is dumb.
To get them earler.
on our local CL there's a Model 3 Performance listed as "one of the rarest cars on the road" for 190k
Yeah.
lmao
wipers are
I know first hand that touchscreen center console sucks ass. And then there's the fact that the gauges are on that screen too, rather than right in front of you. I'll take a hard pass
ALL of it should be physical.
I liked it when I drove the car.
I found myself changing wiper speeds several times today while driving.
And dodging dumbasses in Jeeps.
That's one of my absolute biggest pet peeves in my RX
there's no "one wipe" thing on the wiper stalk
its either intermittent or off
reeeeeeee
I like it when there's actually knobs for the HVAC.
My grandfather's newer RX has a one wipe thing
Happily my car has auto climate control, but 3 knobs and a button are all you need.
lmao
tfw your 80s sports car has intermittent wipers but a late 90s "luxury" SUV doesn't
lol
Exotic trickle down features.
I'm saying the tap it to make it swipe once
lmao
I have 7 levels of wipe in my van.
that's still something the RX-7 has that your RX doesn't
does it have the one wipe thing?
yep
Yes.
the 2nd gen has it, first gen doesnt pepecry
push the wiper stalk forward to wipe once
pull wiper stalk back to spray
then down for continued wiping
The Prius has push up for one wipe
mhm
but the RX-7 is push out
idk why, but I've gotten use to it
honestly. I hope my car is fine, but it really seems like something is very amiss
yeah, the first gen RX has some quirks and features
Not actually my van.
won't know until you get the heads open
That van's platform probably predates Lexus entirely.
^
But very close to it.
It came out in 2001.
can I use one from a different car in my RX if we just replace the engine wholesale?
Or do I need to find one specifically from an RX300
The van platform did.
Provided the tech is the same... maybe?
I love my van. It's a beast.
For example the Ford Contour used the Duratec 25, but it went through a couple of revisions.
@indigo coral assuming the engine used in other cars is physically the same size and has the same mount points and same wiring harness, you could just reuse your motor mounts and plug and play your harness
She has the 6.0l LS in her.
Among them being secondary intake runners going from vacuum operation to electronic.
The Duratecs had issues.
but what often happens is that wiring harnesses will vary across models, even if the engine is the same
Might want to check revisions of the engine. I imagine it changed over the years.
so I should just find one from an RX?
Go for RX.
That would be ideal
if we end up changing it out wholesale at least
It won't be more expensive. They're gonna be used.
but splicing a harness wouldn't be overly difficult
would probably be easier than rebuilding the valve system and whatnot
I've seen many of them with a failed internal water pump
All fords have water pump issues.
Replace it with a metal vane pump, and you are safe.
I'd totally get a 2nd gen RX except the steering is godawful
Then they start rusting from the inside out
steering rack swap @indigo coral
Nah the Duratec 25 wasn't too hard to replace.
my 1st gen isn't super accurate but its at least somewhat communcative
the 2nd gen is just a fuckin nightmare
And had a chain cam drive.
The new Cyclone engines or whatever are disasters.
yeah thats another funny quirk of the 1st gen RX
Don't even get me started on the first and second gen of Ecotec engines.
car has a turning radius the size of jupiter
oof
I hate the Ecotecs.
have to 3 (or more) point turn out of literally almost every parking spot
I'll always be a fan of Honda's engines though.
Especially the old F-series engines.
Rotaries have their own..........issues.........but I love them
Low compression, lower power, but at least torquey.
and then rev happy Honda and Toyota engines are great
especially with velocity stacks
The ecotecs had tons of timing chain issues.
That being said I'm super happy with my 'rolla's 2.0.
EcoBoost has a somewhat common timing chain problem too π
I know someone who is putting a turbocharged ecotec into an FC
I hate it when there's a ricer telling me about how his V-Tech kicked in.
And he ran a 7 second zero to sixty.
VTEC is cool stuff.
It's cool.
V-TEC is cool, but doesn't really give you a performance advantage
But it's nothing compared to a turbo ed lS.
and besides, Toyota engines have VVT too, so fuck em
when does vvti engage?
depends on the engine and tune
damn
VTEC is a separate cam profile. VVT is timing.
V-TEC is a combo of VVT and VVL
It combines a separate cam profile with higher performance timing
sure
variable valve lift is fancy speak for a different cam profile
Yes, but different from variable timing.
VVT is more akin to say... VTEC-E.
no wait... π€
VVT is it's own thing, but is integrated into V-TEC; afaik at least
VTEC-E is valve fuckery where they keep the second valve closed for low revs.
Why buy a VTEC engine, when you can buy an LS put a turbo on it. And be faster than a VTEC. For cheaper.
if a valve in my engine drops, its f*cked right?
why bother with either when you could just have a big carb with secondaries that open under load
Yes.
I'm reading on the internet to try and solve my problems xD
Then again we're going about this wrong. VTEC and VVT are trademarked generic tech Honda and Toyota pulled off.
@indigo coral Yes it's screwed if that happens.
this is true
Real VTEC is VVTL-i
yes
The rest are just valve timing fuckery that doesn't involve different cam profiles.
But that's not important because Toyota and Honda killed that concept.
different cam profiles are kinda redundant tbh
Honda adopted turbos, and Toyota... uhhhhhh jury's out on them.
valve timing fuckery is cheaper
My car has it... which is fun.
Electric control on intake, oil pressure control on exhaust.
The Prius probably does too
well fuck
some others on forums have had a similar issue, knocking noise with no lights or anything
but it's a hybrid + CVT, so you don't ever feel it and it does jack shit for you
yea, more of an economy booster thing
Rather flexibility and emissions. That's my understanding.
I find the emissions system on the 12A to be quite comical
All pre 90s emissions are comic.
Well for GM I imagine they're still jokes.
fresh air injection
Let's water down the bad emissions with outside air, that counts, right?
the exhaust header is called a "thermal reactor" it basically just burns up some fuel while its there. Then you have the smog pump and a solenoid valve. That solenoid determines whether the smog pump should route exhaust air back into the carburetor, put clean air into the exhaust, or just send the exhaust straight into the main catalytic converter
with that smog pump you could theoretically run the car off of exhaust gases instead of clean air, lmao
and then theres me. My smog pump pulley is misaligned, so I just yeeted the belt off
RX-7s are rare enough to not matter much if one or two are missing emissions.
Now a million VWs with active emissions avoidance...
lol
lool
there's some truth to that tbh
There was a Honda catalytic converter thief on my college campus for a while
only hondas?
yea
weird
wow
seems like it'd take a while to cut out the cat and weld in new pipe
and hard to do sneakily
then it'd be glaringly obvious that its gone though
Finally got one a Lexus. Been wanting on since I was a teenager and drooling over the GS400
that was how the school found out
Nice! @fathom socket
people getting in their cars
"why the fuck my car loud"
report to the campus police
oh my, the catalytic converter is gone
I've got a 1999 Lexus RX 300 but it's having a few problemsn haha
A few is an understatement, lmao
fair enough
I'm not an idiot, its not like I ran it out of oil or anything so idk why its so broken ll
385 messages chill
I ran my mustang down to 2 quarts of oil and it's still going. I was beginning to wonder what all the ticking was coming from

windows tint
Nah its a few problems, nothing major
6900 FIRM, I know what I got
@indigo coral
I have to say. I do like driving and to be honest... I've never been much of a mobile gamer, but, forget everything you think you know about mobile games because Raid Shadow Legends is one of the most ambitious RPG projects of 2019 has just been released and will change everything.
Click the link below and... nah just kidding. Go drive around the block.
yikes
