amazon said prime air is coming soon and I'm hopeful xD

#

we're in range of it so that'd be really cool

desert glen

I wish i lived in a city with an amazon DC

closest one is 2 hours away

indigo coral

I'm talking the 30min delivery drones jd

#

lol

fair bronze
#

I know, would be cool if this would be right outside your door though

indigo coral
#

lol

#

Amazon Go is a cool store

#

tbh

fair bronze
#

"Hello, I am your delivery pilot, here is your order"

desert glen
#

Moving to richmond just for quick delivery

shadow osprey
#

Literally pick anywhere except richmond, it's trash

desert glen
#

We’re talking RVA right?

dense shard
#

I've heard good things about Richmond.

#

One of the nicer cities in Virginia.

desert glen
#

From someone outside NOVA, and I share the opinion of many others, Richmond sucks

#

Its a nice city, but totally different social climate than the rest of the commonwealth

dense shard
#

oh?

fathom socket
heady ridge
#

lets see who spots it first

eager kite
#

nothing wrong with it

jagged coyote
#

btw that's either a really small rotor or that valve is huge

eager kite
#

that looks like stuff on ebay that says "lightly used"

heady ridge
#

lol apart from the fact that rotarys dont use valves at all

jagged coyote
#

woosh

#

oh wait you posted the pic

heady ridge
#

yes and i also know my car engines fairly well

jagged coyote
#

i hate when my rotary rod knocks HaHaa

dense shard
#

That's what happens when you install race camshafts on your rotary.

#

It could drop a valve.

shadow osprey
#

Yeah RVA

civic girder
#

can confirm, rod knock rotary is a pain in the dick to deal with

#

kek

indigo coral
#

oof did your rotary break?

charred ruin
#

Nice

civic girder
#

No, I was joking about the valve lodged in a rotary thing

#

I drove my RX-7 to school and back last couple days, no issues that I didn't already have

#

which the issues I do have:
-sunroof rail is kinda messed up, so wind likes to blow between the sunroof weather seal at highway speeds when it's windy
-old car noises (creaks from ancient suspension, all the tings and clicks from tiny gravel pieces pinging off the aluminum in the wheel wells)
-fucked up rear brakes that barely do anything
-ancient diff fluid that makes the car feel a little weird and kinda "pulsate" in 3rd gear
-shifts like ass because the clutch cylinders are ancient and leaking everywhere
-wind noise and cold air blowing in through the absolutely trashed door seals

#

but I can say that the trans fluid change was a brilliant idea

#

-it "pulses" less in 3rd gear than it did before
-the transmission doesn't feel sketch when putting it in gear
-car doesn't vibrate at harmonic frequencies when you go 70mph
-and there's hardly any gear whine anymore

charred ruin
#

Heres a fun one from this fall one of the combines got stuck and we broke a 2 1/2 inch rope pulling it out

indigo coral
#

wait what happened ?

#

Who got banned

dense shard
#

rekt

#

Nissan Leaf + does better.

stoic ledge
#

I don't think anybody get banned

#

Well idk

#

About the Porsche: it''s waay more fun to drive tho Pogey

indigo coral
#

still. 201 miles in ideal conditions is terrible lol

#

that's gonna be like 130 miles daily

dense shard
#

so it'll match the base Mustang Mach E

#

That car has an EPA range of 230 miles.

fair bronze
#

Incredible

dense shard
#

This is specifically why I prefer going off industry standards.

#

Porsche bullshit 280 miles per charge.

#

EPA showed 200.

#

I could listen to the automakers, or I could watch them pipe down when apples to apples numbers are released.

stoic ledge
#

Basically the same range as a Corsa-E Pogey

fair bronze
#

Which is a Peugeot 208

#

I prefer the Opel though

stoic ledge
#

Opel has a interior which makes more sense

fair bronze
#

Definitely

stoic ledge
#

Peugeot gauge screen is cool tho

fair bronze
#

The tiny steering wheel and high dials make no sense to me

stoic ledge
#

Agreed, but the screen itself is cool xD

fair bronze
#

Stupid marketing crap

#

Yes true

stoic ledge
#

The Opel digital screen is... Cheap

fair bronze
#

It looks fine

stoic ledge
#

So I'd just get the regular dials

fair bronze
#

Yeah

indigo coral
#

my favourite is either the model s cluster or the bmw one with the metal outlines of the dials

stoic ledge
#

^ yes the previous BMW cluster is good

indigo coral
#

the new bmw one is yucky

stoic ledge
#

Much better than the current cluster

fair bronze
#

Agree

stoic ledge
#

Can't find a pic of the Corsa's digital screen :/

#

It's too small imho

fair bronze
#

ew

indigo coral
#

thats literally the Volt screen

#

lol

fair bronze
#

Yes

stoic ledge
#

How can it be a Volt screen if it's not made by GM 🤔

dense shard
#

I love how the blank plastic implies the existence of a normal gauge cluster.

indigo coral
#

came from gm prob

stoic ledge
#

OR, the screen used by Chevy was originally from Opel

fair bronze
#

Hmm

#

Illuminati confirmed?

stoic ledge
#

But if the screen was wider, it would have been nice

#

Yes JD, yes

fair bronze
#

Screens are cheap now

#

Why skimp

stoic ledge
#

GWloopyBlobShrug Because they already had this screen laying around probably xD

fair bronze
#

Just throw 'em in there, Bob

indigo coral
#

because car manufacturers are cheapasses

fair bronze
#

Also that

#

Decent speakers aren't that expensive now either, yet many car manufacturers always manage to find speakers that make anything sound terrible

stoic ledge
#

Don't forget Opel actually finished developing a brand new Corsa, than they were bought by PSA and they had to start over again xD So it's quite amazing what they accomplished in such a short period of time

fair bronze
#

I wonder what it would have looked like

stoic ledge
#

Probably like a baby Astra

#

About the speakers: but how must they otherwise upsell to their "pReMiUm" Beats Audio system? 😛 (which is also shite)

fair bronze
#

Well that's my point

#

Even the seemingly 'great' audio systems still sound like crap

#

Yet when I buy some Pioneer speakers for like €20 each they sound way better

indigo coral
#

Naka system is very old, but decent

fair bronze
#

And that's retail price

dense shard
#

Because automakers buy the brand name, not the actual quality.

stoic ledge
#

But... Imagine 0.05 cents on every car. *1 milion cars = 50k profit 😛

fair bronze
#

I know lol

#

At least let me put aftermarket speakers in it

#

Without disassembling the entire car

stoic ledge
#

Oof yes

indigo coral
#

I'd put alternate speakers in mine but I can't 😢

fair bronze
#

The Saab 9-3 actually came with Pioneer speakers from the factory

#

That must be why Saab went bust then lol

stoic ledge
#

I... Can, but I can't want to because I probably can't get it back in 1 piece

#

Lol well basically xD

fair bronze
#

They actually cared too much

stoic ledge
#

Saab used everything except the parts they were supposed to use to keep costs down xD

fair bronze
#

lmao true

stoic ledge
#

My uncles Saab did have a Kenwood unit iirc tho

#

🤔

fair bronze
#

Which model Saab?

stoic ledge
#

2006 or 2007 9-3

fair bronze
#

Must've been aftermarket too then

stoic ledge
#

Idk it was a company car

#

Could be

fair bronze
#

Probably

stoic ledge
#

It was quite fast tho

#

(the car)

#

It was the 2.0 Turbo, top speed at zhe Autobahn was 241 iirc

fair bronze
#

The original GM radio was made by Fujitsu

#

Nice

stoic ledge
#

Opel OEM radio's from that aera we're Grundig iirc

#

Or Delphi

#

Depending on the model

fair bronze
#

Hmm

stoic ledge
#

Some we're even made by Blaupunkt

fair bronze
#

Yes Blaupunkt

stoic ledge
#

Peugeot using the same sat nav as Maseratis Pogey

fair bronze
#

You mean Garmin?

#

Or Navman maybe

#

idk

stoic ledge
#

This one

fair bronze
#

Ah I recognise that button panel

#

Typical PSA

#

Maserati has really gone to shit now imo

stoic ledge
#

The Gran Turismo is old af now, Levante was mey, Ghibli ok, Quattroporte not what it used to be

fair bronze
#

The Ghibli is even available with a diesel ffs

#

Also the GT has been discontinued iirc

stoic ledge
#

Oh has it?

#

Could be, idk xD

fair bronze
#

lol

stoic ledge
#

Ah yes it's discontinued

#

Diesel Ghibli is the one sold the most in 🇳🇱 iirc xD

fair bronze
#

Yep

indigo coral
#

The GranTurismo is just expensive and old

#

Levante is a good SUV but overpriced

#

Ghibli and Quattroporte are shit

jovial mauve

#

Ooo hey nice MR2 ❤️

#

beautiful

#

love it

fair bronze
#

That looks so tiny

#

Because of that car next to it

civic girder
#

what's funny is that the Lexus next to it isn't even much larger than a early 2010s Corolla

#

it's a really narrow car with a low roof

#

but it is actually fairly long

#

and that gives it more interior space than a Miata

stoic ledge
#

Oof @jovial mauve is back 👀 Long time no see buddy

fair bronze
#

So long that I don't remember seeing him

stoic ledge
#

Oof

#

He had a Golf R which he was selling

#

And a red CLA diesel company car which somebody crashed in to iirc xD

#

And apparently he replaced the Golf R with an RS3

fair bronze
#

He must be young

#

Whatever floats your boat I guess

#

Maybe I'm just mentally old

stoic ledge
#

Could be, idk xD

fair bronze
#

I ramble when I'm tired

civic girder
#

Man I got so many parts in the mail today

#

All I need now are my brake shit and then I'll have everything I need

fair bronze
#

Yes, brake shit to replace the shit brakes

civic girder
#

pretty much, lol

#

I'm changing out the soft line, the shoes, the wheel cylinders, the drum, and all the springs and shit

fair bronze
#

Gonna be great

civic girder
#

It'll be better

#

still not discs

fair bronze
#

Ah that way

#

Still gonna be way better

civic girder
#

ooh yea, for sure

#

braking is still sketch, even though it's got brand new pads and rotors at the front

fair bronze
#

I just love that you're keeping the old lady on the road

civic girder
#

thanks, it's certainly a journey

fair bronze
#

80s Jap cars have a certain aesthetic to them, I like it

civic girder
#

Oh yea, they definitely do

#

I love 80s Jap cars now more than ever did

#

even 80s American cars don't capture the aesthetic of the time

fair bronze
#

I get what you mean

civic girder
#

yea, it's crazy. You park my friend's dad's 89 Crown Vic next to this, and the Vic doesn't even feel like an 80s car

fair bronze
#

lol

indigo coral
#

feels older or newer? Lol

#

@civic girder

civic girder
#

idk

#

It definitely doesn't feel 70s

#

it almost has some bastard child form of 90s vibes

#

but without the 90s looks

indigo coral
#

they hardly changed it all the way until 2011 🤣

civic girder
#

I don't really know how to explain it, but it just doesn't feel like an 80s car

#

whereas any Japanese car from the 80s screams 80s from miles away

indigo coral
#

My car absolutely screams from the rooftops that it's from the 90s. Two tone body lol.

civic girder
#

Mines a wedge

with an 80s interior

#

and facelift exterior to make it 80s

eager kite

Feel bad for porshe

dense shard
#

Porsche fucked themselves.

#

And that's why I stick to industry standards.

#

EPA just gave Porsche whiplash.

#

And lost 80 miles of range while at it. lol

eager kite
#

$150k car, only gets 200 miles epa range

dense shard
#

Give me a Nissan Leaf.

#

Each time the range drops enough, I can just get a new one.

#

Hell... I can get a new Leaf every year for like... 5 years?

eager kite
#

Damm, a perf model s can get 350 miles, better 0-60 and 1/4 miles, and fsd, and is only 113k

#

Now that's just sad

dense shard
#

Or get a Model 3, and you get 300 miles of range for 50k.

#

Or get a Mustang Mach E... 60k and 300 miles of range.

#

You can get literally anything that was made in the last 3 years, and be better off.

#

The only cars that are worse are the i-MIEV, Fiat 500e, and the electric compliance cars.

#

You'd have to be a pretty hardcore porsche fan to buy this thing... and then you'd probably have admit you could have done better.

eager kite
#

Yea, porshe fucked something up real hard on this one

civic girder
#

what is range, lmao

#

I fill up my 7 at half a tank, which is roughly 60 miles on the trip meter

#

I add 6 gallons, and it's a 16 gallon tank

dense shard
#

Range is not waiting an hour to charge your EV up.

#

gg Porsche.

#

280 wasn't brilliant to begin with.

sick cloud
#

I drove on the highway for 2 hours with the low oil pressure light on

civic girder
#

though the headlamp and stop lamp lights are of questionable "I'm fucked" status

indigo coral
#

thats a yikes @sick cloud

civic girder
#

If I did that I'd cry and then start shopping for a new engine

#

cause uh, rotary no work without oil pressure

indigo coral
#

since I got my car i've had two warning lights - one CEL that turned out to be nothing, and one "your brake lights are out dumbass" lights that turned out to be nothign too xD

sick cloud
#

The engine was severely damaged by owner, spun an dropped the bearings for the balance shafts into the oil pan. The sensor is located in the cylinder head and the light comes on when the pressure is below 5 psi.

civic girder
#

Yea, I've had a couple "not normal" light instances

#

stop lamp light came on, cause I had a busted brake light

indigo coral
#

my CEL was the pressure went funny and the evap system went out of spec for a second, car ran perfect. when i got home i cleared it and its never come back

civic girder
#

and when it started getting cold I had the "add coolant" light and buzzer, but that was only because there was barely not enough coolant (when the engine and system was cold) for it to not touch the thermostat

sick cloud
#

My mom's car has almost 245k miles and still going strong.

indigo coral

Mine's at 133k as of yesterday

When I got the Prius it had 72k

sick cloud

I worked on a semi once. 11 months old and had 1.13 million miles on it. Still under warranty.

indigo coral

When I got my car last September, I had 116k miles on it

more like

civic girder

thats crazy

indigo coral

that's a lot

indigo coral
#

thats just to school and stuff, don't even have job to commute to xD

sick cloud
#

civic girder
#

I put fewer miles on the Prius commuting to school and work

indigo coral
#

friends and I went on a day trip to the beach but that was only ~300 miles

#

(round trip)

sick cloud
#

I had to pull the sub frame and oil pan on her car to remove a piece of plastic my ex dropped down the timing cover when I was doing a valve adjustment 3 weeks ago.

civic girder
#

oof

sick cloud
#

Had to replace ignition coils, spark plugs, fuel injectors, and motor mounts that same weekend. No power tools.

indigo coral

jeez

sorry if i missed it

sick cloud
#

2007 honda civic si

indigo coral
#

Oof rip

#

only thing I've had to replace was a rear sway bar link

#

and only cause it was clunking around and driving me insane xD

civic girder
#

The only thing I've had to replace...............
I'd rather not type out a message that long

indigo coral
#

Lol

sick cloud
#

I replaced all suspension parts, both front control arms and ball joints, a/c compressor (twice) and condenser, wiper motor, all motor mounts, spark plugs ( 3 sets), ignition coils, fuel injectors, pre cat O2 sensor, 3 valve adjustments, uh might be forgetting something. Clutch was replaced twice.

indigo coral
#

jesus

#

over how long?

sick cloud
#

over the life of the car

#

it's the car with almost 245k miles

indigo coral
#

true

civic girder
#

lets see here...

sick cloud
#

runs great. she wants to drive the car at least till she retires next year.

indigo coral
#

its probably coming time for me to do timing belt which will be a nightmare

sick cloud
#

has a timing chain

indigo coral
#

if I could get confirmation that the car was non-interference I'd just say fuck it and go until it breaks but the internet is very conflicted as to whether or not the engine is interference or not

#

lol

#

most say it is non-interference, while some insist the vvt-i makes it interference

sick cloud
#

i know mine is in my car. when the timing chain jumped a tooth on the crankshaft, BAM, all exhaust valves were bent and the bearings spun and fell into the oil pan. This was on the original engine before I bought the car. I replaced the engine myself.

indigo coral
#

Rip

civic girder
#

For the Prius:
I have replaced the wiper blades once, replaced a taillight, replaced both headlights (PAIN), and a side marker light. Then, after the accident, (I didn't do this, but is what was replaced) hood, bumper, core support, radiator, oil cooler, a/c condenser, both headlight assemblies, and the front license plate mount

indigo coral
#

I've been able to find stuff saying the 1MZ-FE that does not have VVTi is non-interference, and the subsequent 3MZ-FE in the newer RX is interference, but the cars with VVTi 1MZ, its unclear

sick cloud
indigo coral
#

Lol

civic girder

lmao

sick cloud
indigo coral
#

I'm gonna be in deep sh*t when my trans craps out

#

(when, not if)

civic girder
#

Professional Equipment ™️

indigo coral
#

the RX has problems in that regard

sick cloud
#

2AZ-FE suffered a design flaw

indigo coral
#

Idk what the trans code for mine is, but they wayy underbuilt it.

sick cloud
#

that's the engine model in my car

indigo coral
#

pulled it from the Camry, put it in a car thats way heavier "more poweful" and AWD, then they didn't cool it well

#

yeah i figured

#

At least you can take solace in the fact that its a better engine than the Ford 5.4 V8 and the Northstar V8! XD

sick cloud
#

oops I called toyota a bad word and got censored

indigo coral
#

Oof

#

r word?

sick cloud
#

yeah

indigo coral
#

yeah the bot doesn't like that

sick cloud
#

the poor design of the engine

#

foam between intake and block, aluminum block, too small coolant passage, caused the treads in the block to soften and head bolts stripped out.

#

coolant mixed with the oil and over a long time sludge built up and wore the parts out in 112k miles

indigo coral
#

The part I find honestly ridiculous is that for the 99 and 00 model years, the thing would just kind of die from the planetary gear cracking (i think) + other failures like a weak ATF pump, but your best bet was to just kind of let it do its thing until it died and occasionally check the fluid. Then in 01 they panic tried to fix it, and made the ATF pump too big and it burns the shit out of the ATF, so you have to change it much more often. And it didn't resolve some of the other issues. Nice job Toyota!

sick cloud
#

engine was done

indigo coral
#

1MZ-FE can have sludge issues, but if you use synthetic and actually change your oil occasionally its not bad

civic girder
#

As for the RX-7, in the last 3 months, I've done:
Tires, front brake rotors, front brake pads, radio, fuel pump twice, spark plugs twice, spark plug wires, distributor cap, distributor rotor, retuned the carburetor, most of the vacuum lines, a/c compressor drive belt, smog pump drive belt (then removed it because the smog pump pulley is misaligned), alternator belt, alternator pulley, then put two new alternator belts on, new alternator, wiper blades, rear speakers, air cleaner, and oil filter + oil change and transmission fluid

sick cloud
indigo coral
#

rip

#

im curious what my engine looks like inside but I don't really want to start opening stuff up cause I'll probably break something 😂

sick cloud
#

ever replace the water pump in a 5S-FE?

indigo coral
#

no

sick cloud
#

it is driven by the timing belt

indigo coral
#

like the ford 3.5

#

not sure about ecoboost, but the NA one for sure

#

iirc its a partly engine out job

#

(hope ours dont fail! xD)

civic girder
#

I remember when Ford made the water pump inside the engine, lol

#

"Good luck getting it replaced when it poops out"

indigo coral
#

both parents cars have the 3.5 ecoboost rip

#

well its a good engine but has some ... flaws

civic girder
#

Just get 12As

#

better engines

#

lol

dense shard
#

I'm just hoping my engine has no issues.

#

Toyota's new Dynamic Force 2.0 is brand new ground up design.

#

Cool af tech, but brand new engine as of... last year.

indigo coral
#

rotary swap my rx300 lol

#

nah there's no room for any thing under there

#

Short good

#

Hood*

civic girder
#

yea

#

that's why you rotary swap

#

cause its small enough

indigo coral
#

i wonder if i could hijack the rx350 engine/trans into there lol

#

prob not

dense shard
#

Just LS swap it.

indigo coral
#

can't

dense shard
#

sure you can

indigo coral
#

LS is longitudinal isnt it?

#

can't do that in that car

#

tiny engine bay

dense shard
#

I believe a couple of GMs had an LS driving the front wheels.

indigo coral
#

also where would you put the transmission?

dense shard
#

The LS is supposedly super compact.

#

yep. Pontiac GXP had an LS4

indigo coral
#

mm or i could take the 20k that would cost and put it towards a Model 3 or a Stinger/G70 blurryeyes

dense shard
#

yeah, but an LS Lexus.

indigo coral
#

lexus LS

#

xD

dense shard
#

Miata LS swap is old news.

#

The new hotness is Lexus RX LS swap

indigo coral
#

Lexus LS and LS Lexus RX that aint confusing at all

dense shard
#

That's what makes it good.

indigo coral
#

can you imagine the stupidity of that

dense shard
#

yes

indigo coral
#

LOL.

#

how much hp does the Ls4 make?

dense shard
#

That's why I'm saying you should do it.

#

Oh you can probably drop an LS something bigger in there.

#

LS4 made 300 horsepower.

indigo coral
#

pair it with a competent transmission and you'd have one hell of a sleeper

#

considering mine on its best day made 220hp and I suspect some of those escaped over 20 yeras

#

biggest thing is the trans just neuters it

dense shard
#

You would be stuck with a 4 speed.

indigo coral
#

damn

#

no point in doing that then

dense shard
#

Still 300+ horsepower to the front wheels.

#

It's perfect.

indigo coral
#

that 4 speed can't handle any more than it does rn

#

someone turbo'ed their 1MZ and it blew up in like a week

#

putting 275 or something

dense shard
#

errrr

indigo coral
#

the trans did, not the engine.

dense shard
#

I'm talking ab+out th+e+++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++

#

cat says hi

indigo coral
#

hi cat

dense shard
#

I'm talking about the LS swap plus trans.

indigo coral
#

ah

#

so a real 4 speed?

#

lol

dense shard
#

The Impala SS had the LS4 with a 4 speed.

indigo coral
#

swap like that would cost 20k though

#

lol

#

easily

dense shard
#

Those cars were so stupid.

#

It was GM in total denial.

#

"we still make real V8 powered cars, look!"

indigo coral
#

the chevy ss wasn't bad

dense shard
#

The Chevy Impala torque steered everywhere.

#

And the Pontiac had reverse staggered wheels to control torque steer.

indigo coral
#

LOL really?!

dense shard
#

"The Grand Prix GXP also offers a unique feature of the different-width 18 in (46 cm) polished Alcoa forged aluminum wheels. The front wheels are 8 in (200 mm) wide, and the rear wheels are 7 in (180 mm) wide."

indigo coral
#

lmaooo

#

no but once oyu factor in all the mods you'd need, new ECUs, all kinds of sh*t, you' easily be 20k into a swap like that

dense shard
#

oh most probably.

#

At this point I'd buy a Grand Prix GXP just to keep around as a novelty.

indigo coral
#

side note: I'd buy the sh*t out of a Genesis G70 with a V8

#

a friend had a Grand Prix GTP (v6 w/ supercharger) but he crashed it twice

dense shard
#

The dumbest car and the biggest reason GM filed for bankruptcy.

indigo coral
#

now he has as 2017 Civic he can't afford and is working two jobs to pay for it!

#

xD

#

he's a dumbass.

dense shard
#

ouch

#

Good year, but ouch

indigo coral
#

something like 350$ a month + insurance

#

just for the car

dense shard
#

Then you have life.

#

mega oof

indigo coral
#

he's not talking to me right now

#

cause he tried to race me

dense shard
#

and lost?

indigo coral
#

(not streetrace, stoplight up to speed limit)

#

no, he won. handily.

#

and was gloating later

dense shard
#

I was about to say. lol

indigo coral
#

so I responded with "at least i'm not 25k in debt and working two jobs, mine's paid for!"

#

so

#

uh

#

yeah he got mad

dense shard
#

...

#

Not to sound like a butt.

#

but

#

He had that coming.

My channel somehow gained an extra couple of subs recently.

#

nice!

indigo coral

I suppose i poked a nerve because idk why else he'd be mad about it xD

dense shard
#

I mean the debt thing is a sore point.

#

Even as a "ayyyy, fuck you too buddy, lol."

indigo coral
#

I mean he got himself in it, not me

#

xD

dense shard
#

It's no lower a blow than gloating about beating a 20 year old crossover in a race.

indigo coral
#

I'm honestly not sure why he got that car

#

it's nice

dense shard
#

But why not something... used?

indigo coral
#

but holy hell its a lot of money for 180hp

#

it was used

#

but like

#

2 years used

dense shard
#

25k?

indigo coral
#

its a Touring

#

w/ all the stuff

#

so he got a bit off new price

dense shard
#

yeah, but...

#

wow

indigo coral
#

its effectively new

dense shard
#

At that price, pretty much.

indigo coral
#

when he got it it only had like... 8k miles or something

dense shard
#

Only 3 grand off the brand new price.

indigo coral
#

but still

#

anyways.

dense shard
#

At that point... why NOT buy new?

indigo coral
#

i dont know

#

its not a car I'd buy

dense shard
#

That was my very point when buying.

indigo coral
#

if I'm spending 25k I want more than 180hp w/ a CVT

dense shard
#

I could get a 'rolla for 3k less than new.

#

Or I could buy brand new at 23k.

#

The era of "oh a car loses half it's value driving off the lot" is dead.

indigo coral
#

Well..

#

Some cars.

dense shard
#

No car you want to own.

indigo coral
#

Luxury brands still have that heavy depreciation

#

hondas/toyotas don't

dense shard
#

ugh

#

The ones we need the most.

indigo coral
#

yep

dense shard
#

c'mon Toyota, stop building stuff so well.

#

lol

indigo coral
#

just for comparison sake

#

here's a 2007 Toyota Camry base, with 346k miles

#

they want 5400$

dense shard
#

...

indigo coral
#

Or you can get a BMW 550i M-Sport

dense shard
#

That's dumb.

indigo coral
#

Lol.

dense shard
#

I would get neither.

indigo coral
#

same

#

(though in truth I would have been tempted by a Dinan 550i that was on here a while ago)

dense shard
#

5 grand is a lot for a 13 year old car.

#

5 grand is a joke for a car with close to half a million miles.

indigo coral
#

first gen RX trades hands for 5k all day

dense shard
#

Maybe my perception of new/used prices is skewed.

#

I get they're going up, but some of the asking prices are stupid.

indigo coral
#

kbb says my car is worth 900$, cheapest one on CL is 1400 w/ a dead engine and trans

#

cheapest not broken one is 3500 and it has over 200k miles

dense shard
#

Well...

#

good on you for having a car worth 3500 dollars.

indigo coral
#

Lol

#

I'm just using it as a point that toyota/honda keep their value longer

dense shard
#

Who are you to argue with the forces of demand, supply, and market?

indigo coral
#

here's a '97 Corolla, 165k miles

#

2400$

dense shard
#

Honestly.... the gen 1 RX's may be getting up there in cult status.

indigo coral
#

honestly it looks like its in pretty good condition

dense shard
#

I wonder if there's a subreddit for your car... 🤔

indigo coral
#

lets find out

#

lol

#

there's one for Lexus but not my car specifically

#

I found out that I've got the only desert bronze metallic Lexus RX on Vinwiki

#

which is kind of cool I guess

dense shard
#

nice

indigo coral
#

sorry, I'm weird.

#

lol.

dense shard
#

weird, but no reason not to be proud

#

You have a rare car.

#

Who cares if it is a Lexus RX.

#

My manual Corolla hatchback is rarer than say... A Ford Mustang.

#

Yes, I checked.

indigo coral
#

Same

dense shard
#

Not gonna even lie. I go into the garage and look at my car before I go to bed.

#

weird, but who cares. This is why we're banished in the car channel.

indigo coral
#

Mine aint fast, nor is it classically beautiful but its mine and i love it xD

#

(also its comfortable and reliable)

dense shard
#

amen

#

It ain't a Civic, but at least you aren't 25k in debt. 😂

#

no wait... 🤔

#

It's better than a Civic. At least from that era.

#

hmmm... okay question time.

#

At what point does a new car become better than an older luxury car?

indigo coral
#

hm?

#

depends on the car

dense shard
#

Let's just go for a top nacho car.

#

At what point does a Civic/Corolla become better than an S-Class?

indigo coral
#

Well if you're talking about the OG Lexus LS400, that's unbeatable

#

Oh

#

Hmm

dense shard
#

We could aim for Lexus as well actually.

#

A lot of the building ideas and tech used in the LS400 in the 90s is being used on my Corolla today.

#

I forgot the specifics, but the body gaps on newer Toyotas are as tight as the OG LS. Same methods to ensure that.

#

But S-class... at what point would you say a Civic/Corolla is better than say... a 90s S-Class?

indigo coral
#

Provided we're not talking about the rock bottom base model, I'd say arguably in some regards right now

dense shard
#

Let's go wither high trims.

indigo coral
#

Less gimmicks, but certainly more reliable than the S-Class.

dense shard
#

No reason to cheap out. lol

normal temple
indigo coral
#

Probably closer in terms of actual useable power than you'd like to admit

normal temple
#

I see we're talking about Mercedes and reliability

dense shard
#

Cause apart from interior space... I have leather, nav, ABS, traction control...

indigo coral
#

mhm

dense shard
#

Not just reliability. Everything.

normal temple
#

Well let me tell you something

#

It'll suck your soul

#

And your wallet

indigo coral
#

It really is a crying shame that the E60 M5 is terribly unreliable

#

That would be a really cool car otherwise

normal temple
#

Actually

#

They aren't as bad as they look

#

The main rod bearing problem is due to people revving the tits off them when cold

indigo coral
#

Only the manual version is worth buying.

dense shard
#

It all went to hell when BMW went to forced induction.

normal temple
#

And running the wrong oil

dense shard
#

Though apparently the new inline 6s are back to being good.

indigo coral
#

The SMG is universally terrible though

dense shard
#

sooo... make what you will of that.

#

All automated manuals are rubbish.

normal temple
#

The N54 is a great motor, everything around said motor will blowup

indigo coral
#

Manual version would be good, and if you take care of the common failures (VANOS, Rod Bearings etc), I think you'd be in decent shape

dense shard
#

At least BMW's design was literally just an automated manual.

#

Instead of everyone else's fancy pants weirdness.

indigo coral
#

There's upgraded parts for vanos and rod bearings iirc you'd be in okay shape

dense shard
#

That is according to a friend.

indigo coral
#

There'd be a half dozen more smaller things to fix preventatively

normal temple
#

It is

#

Its a regular manual box

dense shard
#

The E46 SMG was just a manual with computery bits.

normal temple
#

With an automated clutch

#

Yep

dense shard
#

Which really begs the question.

#

Why not just get a manual.

normal temple
#

You just remove it and replace with regular parts

#

Then you have a manual car

indigo coral
#

or buy the manual versoin

#

xD

normal temple
#

Actually sometimes buying an SMG and swapping is more cost effective

dense shard
#

Especially now.

#

Likely less abused.

indigo coral
#

Thought you'd need to redo all the ECUs and stuff wouldn't you?

normal temple
#

SMG cars are around 3-4k less in my area which is pretty significant

#

Nah

#

Coding the ECU is easy peasy

indigo coral
#

Oh lol the SMG is literally half the price of the manual here

dense shard
#

E46 M3 remains a dream car of mine.

indigo coral
#

the manual version goes for ~25k while you can get the SMG for like... 10 - 15

normal temple
#

BMW software is free, cable is around 20$

dense shard
#

But... I'm not willing to put work into an old car.

normal temple
#

But it shouldn't need to be coded at all

#

The car will act normal

#

Since its still the same box and everything

indigo coral
#

oh shit

#

there's a 6MT V8 Audi S5 coupe w/ Stage 2 for sale

#

and it has the best wheels

normal temple
#

Does that require an engine change before an oil change

indigo coral
#

?

normal temple
#

Issa audi meme

indigo coral
#

o

#

I love the A5/S5 coupe

normal temple
#

Older V8s literally blowup so frequently

#

That its a meme now

indigo coral
#

is that one of the ones that blow up?

dense shard
#

S5 coupe is great. I love the V8, but man.

#

Audi.

indigo coral
#

i thought it was like early 00's that they blew up

normal temple
#

I believe the B4 S4 and stuff blowup

Maybe B5

dense shard
#

#

Shame VW went to that tiny 1.4T engine.

#

They had a good thing going with the 1.8T.

indigo coral
#

Honestly

dense shard
#

Worst part is we might not even get the new Golf in the US.

indigo coral
#

if I was going to buy an unreliable luxury car

#

it'd probably be a Range Rover

dense shard
#

I'd get a BMW.

indigo coral
#

thats one fine looking auto

dense shard
#

Ranger Rover might be a bit too quirky for my tastes.

#

Give me a nice generic used M3.

indigo coral
#

qUiRkS aNd FeAtUrEs

dense shard

lol

#

Man... even with dream garages, my pragmatism shows through.

#

"hmmmm... what unreliable luxury car is the most reliable... well BMW doesn't have as many horror stories... yes let's do that."

indigo coral
#

Well if we're talking dream garage, I stand by LFA, Model 3 Perf, RS6 Avant

dense shard
#

The worst you'll get out of 90s BMWs are burned out LCDs and droopy headliners.

indigo coral
#

Hmm E_PepeThinking 2017 F-Pace or 2016 RR Sport supercharged that I posted above for 50k?

#

Range rover all the way.

dense shard
#

errr... neither tbh

indigo coral
#

the rr sport supercharged has 510 hp lmao

#

thats so excessive xD

dense shard
#

Your mechanic agrees with you.

#

You don't have one? You will now.

#

Luxury cars kinda annoy me these days.

#

They really don't offer much extra beyond power and supposedly build quality.

#

And in some cases they make incredibly crap compromises to livability. They knowingly give themselves a bad rep for...

#

I'm not sure what even.

indigo coral
#

true

#

(6th try is the charm)

#

from what i've seen the Model 3 has been much more reliable than the s or x were

#

which is good

dense shard
#

yep

indigo coral
#

the S and X have certainly improved though

#

some cars were a bit of a nightmare back when they were new

dense shard
#

Yes, but Telsa had an excuse.

#

Range Rover less so.

indigo coral
#

Not a valid one.

#

They trumpet how simple and reliable EVs are but then their cars fell apart for the first few years.

dense shard
#

dunno, building cars for the first time is a pretty great excuse.

#

Tesla went from refitting a Lotus chassis to building a car fresh.

#

Ranger Rover has been doing it for what... 60 years?

indigo coral
#

no idea

#

either way the model 3 is the best ev on the market atm imo

drifting mantle
#

I had to replace the passenger-side mirror, when it finally gave in, when I bumped into it while cleaning snow off my windshield. (I slipped on ice, and hit it with my side)

It was already loose. I'm guessing the previous owners bought some cheap replacement, cause the plastic around the screws was just weak.

I went to the junk yard, and got a newer model year of my mirrors. Both sides, because they can fold forward and back, while the original couldn't.
So a bit of an upgrade 🙂
