I wanna put on some protection before the snow hits too

Not many people do that here even though it would help quite a bit

What did you realize?

bitter compass

i grew up in a mountain region with some snow issues every year, and live in a city now. yes

but before literally everything is its own "module" and computer

civic spoke

chrome pasture
#

Youd be safe in a 1950s chevy truck. If you hit another car youll just obliterate it.

indigo coral
#

no, because the energy from the accident wouldn't be absorbed by the car

#

it would be transferred into you

#

and you don't have abs, airbags, etc

chrome pasture
#

No, the truck would just plow through any cars

indigo coral
#

that's not how physics works

civic spoke
#

#

#

A chevy truck weighs like 5 times as much as other cars on the road

civic spoke
#

And the 2009 Malibu isn't weak sauce?

normal temple
#

Just disable collisions on your car like in gmod then you can't ever have a crash

indigo coral
#

put a storm trooper body kit on it

#

never will hit anything

chrome pasture
#

Glassbomb they were bother weak xD

normal temple
#

Perfect @indigo coral

civic spoke
#

Modern cars are stupid safe these days.

chrome pasture
#

Lets look at the physics if bother head to head going same speed, if both cars hit and stick together then we can use KE(newcar) + KE(old car) = total KE, then we can use that to see who absorbed all the energy. Assuming m(new care) = m
m(old car) = 5m
.5mv^2 - 2.5mv^2 = -2.0mv^2
We can see the bew car loses all its forward velocity and starts going backwards on collision. Which has the highest change in acceleration, while the old car barely changes velocity.

#

The energy is applied the same to b9th bodies. But because the old car is heavier that energy doesnt effect it as much

civic spoke
#

You forget that crumple zones, airbags, and other safety equipment are a thing these days.

#

Hell. Modern cars even slow you down by themselves if they predict that a crash is about to happen.

#

AEB, or whatever it's called. Automatic Emergency Brake?

normal temple
#

Depends on the manufacturer

#

But yes

chrome pasture
#

Those wont stop the new car from accelerating backwards during the crash

civic spoke
#

Truck that I drive for work has it. Has gone off a couple of times.

stoic ledge
#

Modern cars absorb the energy much better, resulting in a destroyed car but protecting the passengers

chrome pasture
#

No

#

Youre wrong its not absorbing the energy better

#

It's changing how long the car takes to absorb the energy.

indigo coral
#

It's redirecting it away from the occupants of the car

chrome pasture
#

No

indigo coral
#

Yes.

civic spoke
#

Yes it does...

normal temple
#

my brain is imploding

chrome pasture
#

The occupant still feels 100% of the energy

indigo coral
#

nope. Otherwise you'd die in even a moderate collision

chrome pasture
#

Where does this energy magically go?

civic spoke
#

πŸ‘ Crumple πŸ‘ Zones πŸ‘

indigo coral
#

^

chrome pasture
#

That energy still eventually goes into you. It just takes longer

civic spoke
#

That's not how it works.

indigo coral
#

No, it doesn't. The car is absorbing the impact instead of the person.

civic spoke
#

The energy goes into busting up the rest of the car.

#

It takes energy to crumple up the car in the event of a crash.

chrome pasture
#

Then how does the person stopwith the car if they didnt absorb the same amount of energy?

#

The person would keep accelerating

civic spoke
#

So the energy is literally wasted into the crumple zones.

indigo coral
#

seat belts.

#

if you didn't have them you DO keep accelerating

chrome pasture
#

And where does the seat belt get the energy to stop?

indigo coral
#

get yeeted right out the windshield

chrome pasture
#

Your body still experiences the same amount of energy

civic spoke
#

No. It does not. That's now it it works.

chrome pasture
#

Im sorry that is how reality works

#

The only thing crumple zones do increase the impulse TIME

civic spoke
#

Modern cars are designed to waste as much energy as possible crumpling up the cars.

chrome pasture
#

No thats not what they do

#

They increase the impulse time

indigo coral
#

@civic spoke just quit arguing with him, you can't fix stupid

civic spoke
chrome pasture
#

Do you guys know what impulse time is?

#

Or impulse

civic spoke
#

I can't wait to get a nice diff in my E46.

#

One-wheel-peeling is a feelsbadman.

normal temple
#

Should reinforce your subframe while you're at it hue

civic spoke
#

My 170 hp probably isn't much of an issue. xD

normal temple
#

Psssssssh that's prolly more than my car

civic spoke
#

But yeah, I know about the weak rear subframe in the E46

chrome pasture
#

Impulse is the change in momentum in a time interval

#

If the time is really low you get hurt, like in an older car, because the energy gets transfered to you instantly.

#

While in a modern car with crumple zones the same amount of energy gets transfered to you but it takes a larger time

#

Meaning you wont get hurt as badly

#

Still both have you absorb the same amount of energy

#

Still both have you absorb the same amount of energy

civic spoke
#

Anyone know of any decent suspension and diff for a E46?

chrome pasture
#

Still both have you absorb the same amount of energy

#

Still both have you absorb the same amount of energy

#

Still both have you absorb the same amount of energy

#

I can do the calculations and everything to prove you guys wrong if you want

civic spoke
#

Anyone know of any decent suspension and diff for a E46?

chrome pasture
#

Oh now youre silent when youre proven wrong grr people act like they know physics for some reason

#

And then make fun of people who do because you guys dont understand it xP

civic spoke
#

1950's trucks are better. Got it.

chrome pasture
#

If you drive a car 60MPH and slow to a stop, the car and you absorb the same amount of enegy as if you hit a brick wall. Because only enough energy to make you stop is applied.

#

If more or less energy were applied youd either accelerate backwarss or forward. The only way to get less energy applied to you from a crash is to not wear a seat belt

#

But then the ashpalt will apply that same amount of energy to you.

#

In certain situations 1950s trucks would be safer. Like hitting a car that is way lighter. But if you hit anything with substance itll suck

stoic ledge
chrome pasture
#

Mass not weight.

#

Also discrod is broked

civic spoke
#

But more mass = More weight.

chrome pasture
#

But on a place on earth with higher gravity, it wont change the calculations but wilk change weight

#

Or lower gravity.

civic spoke
#

Right. But the fact is that modern cars are designed to slow you down as much as possible before coming to a standstill. And passenger compartment is built as strong as possible to avoid unwanted intrusion.

#

I kind of want a 2020 3 series. :c

And I mean that in a good way

civic girder

Yea, I got the best deal on a Prius ever because of that. 72k miles when I took the keys, and in immaculate shape

thanks

fair bronze

My driving instructor had a VW Polo for manual lessons and a mk2 Prius like yours for automatic lessons, I got to drive the Prius when someone who had an appointment after me did automatic lessons

It was actually pretty nice to drive

civic girder

Yea, I like it. It's not sporty, and the throttle response is trash; but it handles confidently and goes when you want it to

indigo coral
#

Rode in a 2017 Prius and it wasn't as slow as I thought it'd be

civic girder
#

The newer Prius has AWD as an option

dense shard
#

The Prius is much maligned.

#

Not a bad car in the end.

indigo coral

i feel like awd would wreck efficiency wouldnt it?

dense shard
#

Not really.

civic girder

and the new gen 4s also have a beefier electric system and the 1.8L

It just adds a motor

indigo coral

I know the FWD rx300 gets significantly better fuel economy

dense shard

It's an electric motor out back.

indigo coral

but its ancient

so

dense shard

The AWD system only works to about 15 mph.

indigo coral

oh

civic girder

gas cars drink gas like an alcoholic with full time AWD

indigo coral

yup

civic girder

electric cars aren't hurt as much by AWD, especially if it's only part time

civic girder

The mk3 Prius interior makes me cringe. Looks like the 2000s wanted their interior back in there

But I also have owned a mk2 for 4 years and became quite familiar with the styling since my dad bought it brand new in '08

That is terrible mpg

I quite like the 3rd generation.

I had to convert it to get the image

civic girder

that's my RX-7's mpg without vacuum advance lmao. 15mpg at best

#

I have yet to get good readings with vac advance hooked up maybe because I follow the mantra "A redline a drive keeps the apex seals in the rotors"

fair bronze
#

I guess you do get many smiles per gallon

civic girder
#

yus

#

I really like how it drives and handles. Just needs rear discs, an LSD, new suspension bushings, and emissions delete for more noise

fair bronze
#

woot woot

civic girder
#

An FC owner in my state thinks that his local junkyard's totaled FB is a GSL or GSL-SE

#

which if it is, I'm going to go steal it. GSL rear ends are LSD and rear disc

fair bronze
#

That would make things a lot easier for you

civic girder
#

yea. DIY rear disc is expensive as fuck since you have to custom fab caliper mounts

#

I could live with the open diff as I won't be racing, but it would make it handle better

fair bronze
#

It certainly would

civic girder
#

and the only other option I'd have would be to shorten a Ford 8.8

chrome pasture
#

Nice

civic girder
#

but a bolt in rear out of a higher trim RX-7 is painfully easy

chrome pasture
#

err responded nice to something old o3o

civic girder

so fuck custom calipers and chopping a Ford rear

fair bronze
#

Yeah why not choose the easy route

chrome pasture
#

I love calipers! especially Starrett Dial Calipers

civic girder
#

rats nest delete, smog pump removal, and cat delete will take care of most of the emissions. idk if I'll mess with the exhaust header

That would be a big nono here in Europe

civic girder
#

It's also a big nono in some parts of the US

#

but where I live there are absolutely no fucks given about emissions

fair bronze
#

I don't think it makes that much of a difference

civic girder
#

πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ The stock header is basically a pre-cat

#

it's designed to keep the main cat from overheating

#

it's called a "thermal reactor"

#

burns some of the unburnt fuel before it reaches the cat to alleviate stress on the cat

#

and with the smog pump, the exhaust can be rerouted back into the carburetor for recycling

fair bronze
#

Should be fine in that case

civic girder
#

Yea. Since I'm not hunting for horsepower or going racing I think the stock header will be fine

#

without the cat it will be hella loud anyways and should give me a decent bump in power

fair bronze
#

How powerful is it anyway?

#

I know way too little about these

civic girder
#

stock, with all the emissions shit, the 12A (what I have) makes roughly 100hp at the wheels

#

and makes about 103 lb-ft at the wheels

#

hp is at 6800-7k rpm

#

torque is at 4500rpm

fair bronze
#

Not bad since it's light and small

civic girder
#

the stock Nikki carburetor is a 4 barrel. It runs two of the barrels (the primaries) through most of the rev range, but the other two (the secondaries) open up around 4500-5k rpm (dependent on throttle input) for a kick of power (I call it bootleg V-TEC)

fair bronze
#

Especially for the time

#

So basically old school vtec

civic girder
#

Oh yea. These cars weigh 2350lbs

#

100hp is great for the early 80s

fair bronze
#

Exactly

civic girder
#

and it has excellent hp per litre too

fair bronze
#

Because rotary lol

civic girder
#

plus 50/50 weight distribution because of the rotary size/weight/mounting position

#

yep

#

they sold better than the Datsun 280z and Porsche 240, which were it's main competition

fair bronze
#

You mean the Porsche 914?

civic girder
#

maybe, idk my Porsches very well

fair bronze
civic girder
#

ah, it was the Porsche 940 that the FB competed with

#

and then when the FB got the 13B in the GSL-SE, it competed with the n/a Porsche 944

fair bronze
#

Ah I get what you mean now

#

Didn't ring a bell at first

civic girder
#

idk my Porsches, lol

fair bronze
#

I somewhat do

civic girder
#

944, 60s Carrera, 959, 911, 918, that's about all I know

#

100hp is perfect for the car, honestly

#

It's confident and predictable, I don't get scared when I put my foot down, and I know it likes it when I string out the tach

#

it's so slow that you can bang out gears and not even exceed the speed limit

#

In some ways, I'm almost more confident driving it rather than my Prius, lol

#

It's also great how it's created an inside joke with my friends and acquaintances about how slow it is. They'll be like "wanna race bro?"
and I'm like "hell yea, I'll lose to you"

#

I love it, and it's instilled a passion for slow cars in me. Anything much faster than this car and I actually lose interest, lol

indigo coral
#

i like having some punch for merging on highway and stuff

#

Some of the ramps here I avoid because my car is so slow its dangerous to merge there

civic girder
#

Every ramp is dangerous here. No one moves over for you, even if the other two lanes are completely empty

#

they expect you to slow down or speed up

indigo coral
#

Speed limit 60mph

#

have to go 10 around that turn

civic girder
#

and when people are merging, often times people in the middle lane will speed up to keep you from getting over to yield for merging traffic

indigo coral
#

its truly terrible highway design

civic girder
#

and then most people merging are idiots, so they won't speed up or slow down

#

@indigo coral what state are you in again?

indigo coral
#

Washington

#

whoever designs highways here should be drawn and quartered

civic girder
#

kinda makes sense. Washington is mostly mountainous and foresty, right?

indigo coral
#

Depends.

#

It's very diverse

#

Eastern side is very flat and hot in the summer, cold in the winter. West side is wet and hilly.

#

seperated by the Cascades

civic girder
#

I know West Virginia and Virginia have a lot of mountainous/hilly and/or foresty areas. They have some weird ass highways and interchanges there.

indigo coral
#

there's an interchange here they've been working on for 25 years

civic girder
#

doesn't surprise me at all

normal temple
#

Slow cars are the best

civic girder
#

there's some roads on the way to work (like main roads that see heavy traffic all the time) that just receive basic repair work that does little to fix how shit they are, or just makes them worse

indigo coral
#

if I could pick, I'd make a few adjustments to a smaller highway near me to make traffic virtually disappear

normal temple
#

You get to go WOT everywhere and you can't break any laws

#

πŸ€”

indigo coral
#

WOT?

civic girder
#

wide open throttle

normal temple
#

Wide open throttle

indigo coral
#

ah

#

can't do that in my car πŸ˜„

civic girder
#

lmao

indigo coral
#

mostly cause I don't want to blow sh*t up

#

I floored it once and it did NOT go well

normal temple
#

See full speed in my car is about 50% speed of a normal car πŸ€” πŸ€” πŸ€”

civic girder
#

I can do that in both my cars, sort of

#

the Prius is a CVT and heavily restricted and controlled for emissions/efficiency, so WOT is kinda weird and has a give and take kind of feel

normal temple
#

lol

#

Hellcat swap it

indigo coral
#

the one time I floored it from a stop it just started revving freely and then slammed into gear

#

so

#

not doing that anymore

civic girder
#

but I did notice something in the Prius today that I've never noticed before. The VVT kick

indigo coral
#

it doesn't do it if I roll into it

#

and it really clicks on over 3k rpms

normal temple
#

VVT KICK IN A PRIUS

civic girder
#

it was mostly CVT kick, but I did notice the VVT

normal temple
#

Wew lad

#

You wanna know what made me wanna kick myself today

civic girder
#

I also hear more engine noise in the Prius with the repair work than before

#

I think the aftermarket hood is thinner and has less noise damepening

normal temple
#

prolly

#

Those rags are covering the MAF btw

#

Yes the MAF is in the center

civic girder
#

OE hood was fucked in the accident

normal temple
civic girder
#

imagine having a MAF

normal temple
#

The airbox

#

That houses two airfilters

#

That are 30 bucks each for some reason

civic girder
#

that sounds like sketchy german emissions tech

normal temple
#

Idk

#

Its 2004

#

So maybe?

#

lol

civic girder
#

my friend's mid 2000s BMW has like 18 billion catalytic converters on it

normal temple
#

It also has 16 spark plugs

civic girder
#

what the fuck

normal temple
#

On a V8

civic girder
#

what

#

the

#

fuck

normal temple
#

yes

#

The V12s have 24

#

πŸ˜‚

civic girder
#

It makes sense to have 4 spark plugs on a 2 rotor, because rotary is different

#

but fucking 2 plugs per cylinder on a cylinder engine

normal temple
#

The coils themselves cost 150, so its basically 1000$ in coils

civic girder
#

πŸ€”

#

jesus christ

indigo coral
#

wow

civic girder
#

does it have individual coils per cylinder?

normal temple
#

No

#

Thank god

civic girder
#

whew

#

if it did, that would make it 100x worse

normal temple
#

I would shoot myself then

civic girder
#

like, the Prius has individual coils; but it also only has 4 cylinders and 4 plugs

#

and it's a cheapo 1.5L japanese engine

normal temple
#

mmm

#

This has 8 coils with two prongs

#

Soooo

civic girder
#

so it does have individual coils per cylinder

#

but each coil is dual plug

normal temple
#

Yes

civic girder
#

that's not horrible

#

but not ideal

normal temple
#

Its pretty bad

#

Each one is held in with like 4 torx screws

civic girder
#

I mean, the RX-7 technically has individual coils, but it's really weird because 80s tech and rotary

#

oh god, torx is the worst thing ever

indigo coral
#

My friend's Mazda CX 7 is very broken rip

civic girder
#

at least the Prius just has a single 10mm bolt holding the coil on

#

what happened to his CX-7?

indigo coral
#

hes not super into cars but said something about timing chain damage, and turbos eating oil.

civic girder
#

oh god

indigo coral
#

Rip.

civic girder
#

what year is it?

indigo coral
#

07

civic girder
#

ok, so at the tail end of the Ford Mazdas

#

kinda makes more sense

#

but that's still a big rip

indigo coral
#

third car in a year πŸ˜‚

civic girder
#

holy shit

indigo coral
#

they've got bad luck

civic girder
#

yea, clearly, damn

indigo coral
#

first one was some subaru that blew its head gasket

civic girder
#

typical

indigo coral
#

then a honda that puked its transmission

#

honda accord v6 2009 iirc

#

now the Mazda

civic girder
#

idk enough about Hondas to know if that's normal

#

and idk much about non-rotary Mazdas, especially those that aren't the modern ones, the pre-Ford ones, or Miatas

normal temple
#

@civic girder it is

#

Honda autos are notoriously aids

civic girder
#

good to know

normal temple
#

Honda manuals are pretty good

civic girder
#

if that's an 09 that died, my friend's 13 Civic is probably gonna die in a few years, lmao

normal temple
#

Maybe

#

Its only if you don't take care of em

civic girder
#

as with literally anything

normal temple
#

Since its a Honda, people don't take care of em

#

Sooooo yeah

civic girder
#

that's true

indigo coral
#

i feel like i don't take good enough care of my car

#

cause I see everyone always working on shit and I just get in and drive it...

civic girder
#

He'll probably be fine, depending on how it was treated by the PO. But my friend takes good care of it, so he's probably fine

normal temple
#

9/10 its cause something's broken

civic girder
#

I just get in and drive the Prius.

normal temple
#

Not because they're maintaining it

#

When they're always working on it

#

That's bad

civic girder
#

I think the Prius has like 10k miles oil change interval, lol

#

I should check the maintenance schedule, actually

normal temple
#

BMWs are like 15k, but I do every 5k for the X5 and 3k for my E30

civic girder
#

I think I'm coming up on spark plugs sooon

#

coolant is fresh because of the new radiator

#

and apparently the Prius has an oil cooler, lol

normal temple
#

My car does too kek

#

Its right in my front valence

civic girder
#

I didn't think it did because it's a fucken 1.5L slow boi

normal temple
#

Weird that a Prius does tho

indigo coral
#

15k interval sounds like a good way to kill your engine

#

15k interval sounds like a good way to kill your engine

#

ugh

#

i hate discord sometimes

normal temple
#

Rip discord

civic girder
#

yea, idk, the shop that did the repairs told me they replaced the oil cooler and radiator alongside the core support

normal temple
#

I forgot to take a pic of the Mercede's oil for you guys

#

But it was BLAAAACK after 5k

civic girder
#

πŸ‘€

indigo coral
#

mine was brown-ish

normal temple
#

Mostly because I'm running a high detergent oil rn

civic girder
#

the RX-7s oil was fairly black, but some of it was god knows how old

normal temple
#

oof

indigo coral
#

though I'm not sure if I shuold be concerned that it was not translucent like it was when it goes in

#

πŸ€”

civic girder
#

it was mostly fresh oil, and it was brown-ish if you got some on your hands; but overall it looked fairly black

normal temple
#

Honestly not too bad

civic girder
#

dip stick is showing nice healthy oil when I check it, so it's doing fine now that the old sludgy oil is out

normal temple
#

Nice

#

Inb4 sludge is holding apex seals together

civic girder
#

lmao

#

pretty sure sludge wouldn't burn very well tho

normal temple
#

Psssssh anything is possible

civic girder
#

but I guess my seals could be fucked and got replaced by hard packed sludge carbon

#

lol

normal temple
#

Also people who say italian tuneup doesn't work are either DI owners or just haters

#

Cause italian tuneup works for sure

civic girder
#

italian tuneup?

normal temple
#

Yes

#

Basically

#

You floor the shit out of your car

#

And it breaks up the carbon

civic girder
#

ah, you mean the rotary tuneup

normal temple
#

Only works on port injected cars tho

#

Direct injected is fucked

indigo coral
#

when i was changing oil i found a chunk of carbon in the oil filler hole thing

#

i picked it out but i figure that's a bad thing

normal temple
#

Eh its good that its out now

#

Bad that it was there in the first place

indigo coral
#

mhm

#

high mileage, old car though

#

so i guess it makes sense theres some build up

civic girder
#

I've talked to other RX-7 owners who got their cars off people who let them sit or didn't rev them. Engine smokes like hell, smells awful, and barely runs; but they just rev the shit out of them and drive WOT everywhere, and then they stop smoking, run normal, and smell normal after like a week

normal temple
#

yep

civic girder
#

the easy way is seafoam, but that's the hardmode

#

honestly the better mode too, lol

normal temple
#

Seafoam can blow motors

#

Well

#

Headgaskets

civic girder
#

what are headgaskets, lmao

normal temple
#

subaru owners

#

πŸ˜‚

indigo coral
#

Oof

civic girder
#

πŸ˜‚

indigo coral
#

πŸ˜‚

civic girder
#

is it bad that I kinda want an older subaru

normal temple
#

If Subaru decides to update their 10 year old engine platform, then I might consider

#

But they've been using the EJ25 since like the stone age

civic girder
#

I'd be looking at A series Subies, or the notoriously unreliable SVX

normal temple
#

YOOOO

indigo coral
#

svx is kind of cool

normal temple
#

SVX's are cool

#

Alright ima go get gas

#

See yall later

civic girder
#

they are sexy as hell and cool as fuck, but they are the German car reliability of Japan

indigo coral
#

Are they really that bad?

civic girder
#

they work great until they don't, and then are expensive to fix

indigo coral
#

The glass is crazy expensive

civic girder
#

If you take care of it it won't be that bad

#

People can get 200k out of a rotary, pretty sure you could beat that in an SVX

indigo coral
#

It's unfortunate the E60 M5 is a reliability nightmare

#

I'd learn stick to drive that car

civic girder
#

oh yea, don't crack the glass in an SVX or you will learn what broke means the hard way

#

imo, learning stick in a Mazda sports car is actually the best way

#

or something old, like 80s or older

#

Miatas are pretty easy to learn and super fun to drive, same with RX-7s

indigo coral
#

I've been trying to convince my dad to get an E46 330i or something to learn stick in

civic girder
#

idk my BMWs so that means nothing to me, lol

indigo coral
#

Oof there's an '87 M3 on CL here...

#

Manual, Coupe and 85k miles

#

42k though

#

yikers

civic girder
#

what the fuck

#

German car prices suck

#

that's worse than an FD RX-7 that is fantastic shape

indigo coral
#

1993 BMW M3, Coupe, Manual, only 7640 miles

#

45k

civic girder
#

Note to self: never ever ever buy a German car

indigo coral
#

Then you have the other end of the spectrum

#

2007 550i for 4800$

#

xD

civic girder
#

-_-

indigo coral
#

not a bad performer tbh

#

360hp from a 4.8l V8

civic girder
#

that's too fast for me

#

130hp is almost too much

indigo coral
#

wtf

civic girder
#

I like slow

indigo coral
#

I don't

#

lol

#

220hp is not enough for my car tbh, 8.8 seconds to 60 is a bit ridiculous

civic girder
#

I mean, I'm just voicing my opinions

indigo coral
#

when even midrange cars can do it in low 7s

civic girder
#

there are cars that do 0-60 in under 9 seconds? kek

indigo coral
#

model s -> 2.21s

civic girder
#

If the internet is to be believed, the Prius is slower than the RX-7

#

by an entire second

#

9 seconds 0-60 RX-7, 10.4s in the Prius

#

this is my kind of car, lmao

#

jesus, the NB Miata does 0-60 in 7.9 seconds

#

no wonder I think it's a little too fast

#

As much as I love the FD for being a rotary and because of how sexy it is, I'll probably never really consider buying one. For one, they are expensive as fuck for no legit reason, and for two they are quite fast. I'd have to drive one to even decide that tho

indigo coral
#

when i took the model 3 sr+ for a drive it was pretty decently quick

civic girder
#

because I am used to rotaries, so the FD might be predictable and confident enough that I could not feel scared

indigo coral
#

not slamming you into the seat fast but decent

civic girder
#

I wouldn't like the higher end Teslas

#

too quick for me

indigo coral
#

the sickeningly fast ones?

#

lol

#

chill mode

#

makes it slow

civic girder
#

how much power do they make in chill mode?

indigo coral
#

idk for sure

#

think its like 7 seconds to 60 in chill though

#

so a non-performance model S long range goes to 7.2 seconds

civic girder
#

hmmm, I probably wouldn't like it then. And not even necessarily because of the 60 time

#

more so the massive torque

#

would probably scare me too much

#

and that's where I might be able to stomach an FD, rotaries have never heard of torque

indigo coral
#

you'd die in a p100d then

#

quickest tesla I've been in was the Model 3 performance and it was still PLENTY quick

civic girder
#

yea prolly

#

I quite dislike cars that can move me in my seat

#

I like slow and confident. I like being in control without fear of losing control or not being able to stop

#

and that's why I like the RX-7 so much. the way I drive, and the way it deals with that, gives me confidence

indigo coral
#

model 3 performance i rode in, up to 35

#

dont think he had it completely pinned either

fathom socket
civic girder
#

that is waaaay too fast for me

#

the RX-7 would've hit 35 all the way down at the speed limit sign, assuming I got a good start, didn't fuck up the gear change, and pinned it

#

I've had CR-Vs out accelerate me with my foot to the floor, lmao

indigo coral
#

lol

#

i bet you'd get ahead of me

civic girder
#

nah, if you have decent hp, you've already won

indigo coral
#

4 speed auto

civic girder
#

My friend's 1995 Astro van and 1989 Crown Vic both handed my ass to me

indigo coral
#

idk would be an interesting (and slow) race

#

lol

#

mines slow as hell until 3k then it picks up a bit, but since the gears are so long, when it shifts up it drops the rpms below 3k and has to slowly climb again

#

lol

civic girder
#

bruh, that Astro van is quicc

#

he floored that sucker and it flew

#

the Vic was a closer race, but it was still clearly faster

indigo coral
#

I have a strong suspicion there's a engine swapped Saturn Astra in my city

#

because I had a bit of a stop light race with one, and it completely destroyed me

civic girder
#

(and this is from a stop up to the speed limit, no illegals)

indigo coral
#

and sounded pretty good doing it

#

same

#

the Saturn Astra in the US didnt have any hot hatch versions, but Europe has a VXR version

chrome pasture

Anyone here ride motorcycles? o3o

civic girder

I want LED lights on the 7. It would make me feel more confident in other people's ability to see me

normal temple

I still need a little bit more to be fully LED

#

Running lights, brake lights, and turn signals

#

Then I'll be fully LED lol

indigo coral

my led headlights are so much better than the old halogens its not even funny

chrome pasture

I've always wanted to do something like this with my headlights

civic girder

I get blinded by brand new unmodified cars. Even in my Prius where I sit higher. Very few LED cars have the lights setup properly

#

And depending on the car, halogens are just fine. My FB has halogens, and in some ways I think they are much much better than the 30 year newer halogens in the Prius

There are a couple of wash bays around my area. But the closest one is 2 km's away.

I don't wash the underside of my car in the winter cause they don't salt the roads or anything πŸ˜‚

I'm surprised of how good my Hakka 3's are thus far.

#

I was the first one at my tire shop to ask for them

#

Been happy ever since

I bought a new set last month.

#

It was maybe 4,500 SEK for the set mounted and everything.

#

I really want bluetooth in my car.
And a decent setup for charging my phone.
Thinking of maybe retrofitting the old phone holder, and see if I can make it hold a smartphone.

Now imagine a Cybertruck with double tires and wide arches

dense shard
#

It'll be super big.

#

It's big enough as it stands.

fair bronze
#

Honestly I still don't see the point

dense shard
#

Point of what?

fair bronze
#

Of the Cybertruck

dense shard
#

oh, harness a demand.

#

Trucks/crossovers are huge right now.

#

I imagine building either would be a nice sales boost.

#

Granted that was with a conventional shape in mind.

fair bronze
#

I just hate talking about the damn thing lol

#

People do it all the time already

#

MK is online Pogey

dense shard
#

the Cybertruck is meant to replace Model 3s

#

oh no... did people actually make that arguement?

Trucks/crossovers are huge right now.

I can't really see why...

People: "We must lower the CO2 emission/saving the environment"
Also people: buying more fuel consuming vehicles

dense shard
#

Watching Doug's videos.

@stoic ledge Yeah I don't get it either

dense shard
#

Oh crossover popularity is easy.

#

They're more comfortable to use and live with.

fair bronze
#

Even though it's electric, it's not as efficient as it could be

dense shard
#

You get a commanding view of the road, nice. And you don't have to mess up your hips/knees getting in and out of of it.

They're more comfortable to use and live with.

Why πŸ€”

fair bronze
#

It might be pretty aerodynamic but it's heavy

normal temple
#

I'll just sit here with my 14 mpg

dense shard
#

What do you mean why.

#

If you are 55 years old.

#

You aren't as spry and flexible as you used to be.

#

The step in height on a crossover is just more comfortable for old people.

indigo coral
#

My crossover is nice because it's got fantastic visibility

stoic ledge

You get a commanding view of the road, nice. And you don't have to mess up your hips/knees getting in and out of of it.

Commanding view of the road is useless when everybody drives one xD

Well if you're older, ok. But many 20-30-... Year olds buy one to, they don't need one

Cross-overs are basically raised hatchbacks, which are heavier, slower, consume more fuel and more expensive xD

dense shard
#

No one cares about weight, everything is fast enough.

#

And the fuel consumption honestly isn't that much worse.

#

Keep in mind most boomers are used to the 70s where you had something 5 times larger, with half the power, and a quarter of the fuel economy.

#

20-30 year olds are buying used.

#

Older people are buying new.

#

Automakers don't cater to a used market.
