I saved it over time.
Imagine wanting something, saving up for it, and then buying it with money you actually have
Well, if you had invested 25k over 3 years into an S&P 500 and made 8% interest, you would have made an extra 3.2K.
If you put 5k down from investments on that 23.5k car, and got a 18.5k loan at 4% apr, and paid for it all from your investments, at the end of your 5 year loan you would still have 10k in your investment acct. Which means that you effectively paid 13.5k for the same car
And had the stock market gone to shit, or I had made a bad investment.
I'd have declared bankruptcy, I'd have no car, no money, and ruined credit.
And I'd have issues finding a job as many workplaces look at your financial history these days.
I'm very risk averse.
And I didn't have 25 grand when I started saving up money.
I had to save up to get to that point.
The S&P 500 is one of the lowest risk investments out there
Still a risk.
Cash is a rish
Not one I was willing to take living in Japan.
It's all online
No I haven't
Doing anything with your cash online there is a tremendous pain in the ass.
It wasn't worth the stress for me.
Did you have a US bank account?
I do, yes.
If you had sent it to that then investing online prob would had been easier
Sending it is not that easy.
or cheap
Japan loves fees for damn near anything.
I had to give money to my bank to send money to an intermediary who I paid money to transfer it to my US account.
What are the regulations on cryptocurrencies in japan do you know?
I am NOT fucking with that shit.
I don't care what the regulations are.
That shit is sketchier than a 1965 Mustang on a used car lot without a VIN.
If you ignore the exchanges being shut down over various issues.
And the fact crypto seems to exist to be sketchy... sure... legit.
And that's ignoring the wild swings in value with no attachment to reality.
There are cryptos designed to be anonymous
There are also cryptos that are very transparent
I'm not going to play with a pseudo currency who's value is linked to memes and speculations.
Like bitcoin
Bitcoin is supposed to be anonymous last I heard.
There are cryptos that are pegged to the USD
And it's value is linked to speculation and memes.
If there are cyptos pegged to the USD... why would I not use the USD?
It's just a dollar with extra steps.
Bitcoin has anonymized addresses, but the transactions are public record
You could use it to transfer money from Japan to USD
To the US
I'd still have to pay fees.
What fees?
Bank fees, transfer fees.
Sure but usually those are minor for crypto markets
Not worth it in my books.
Worth it if it saves me 10k
Arguably saves me 10k.
Like, even if it took an hour of my time once a month for 8 years to do, it's like being paid $100/hour
I've been poor most of my life. I'm not willing to gamble with my money.
I can't afford to lose out on it.
Because if the market goes tits up... which it does.
Good job buying a Toyota then
I'd be shit out of luck.
Toyota will last me a few decades.
Won't lose any money
You'll stay poor if you never invest
The rich are so because they spend little.
You'll stay poor if you never invest
thonking
I'll make money if I find a good job, spend wisely and live within my means.
I'm not looking to win at life. Just enjoy myself.
The rich are rich because they invested
Good for them.
They also tend to start out rich.
Give me a million to invest, and I'll also be rich.
Bezos, Gates, Musk were all pretty well off before they started businesses. They could afford failure.
I can't.
Investing is not smart for me right now.
Cause the first thing I'll do with a job is buy a house. Then I can start messing around with investments.
Bezos, Gates, and Musk weren't well off before starting their companies
They were from rich families.
Like, they weren't poor but they weren't rich
You don't drop out of an Ivy League school if you are poor.
Elon literally was living off a dollar a day when he started paypal
Well, zip2 at the time
Graham Stephan is someone who went from rags to riches though
That's one person.
Studies have shown successes come more readily to those in better positions in society.
He's a youtuber that started from like $1k to his name and now has a net worth of 7M at 30 years old
Made his money off real estate
Yea it's even more risky
Not really.
Yea really
Buy a few properties, fix it, and rent it.
It takes more work, but property returns more.
People will ALWAYS need housing.
There is always a market for housing.
Yea, and if a shooting happens nearby or robbery picks up or a natural disaster your property value tanks
Imagine having enough money to buy multiple real estates... Then you're quite rich already
Shootings don't tank properties.
If they happen in neighborhoods they do
My parents house goes up year on year despite a kidnapping in the area.
Birmingham has constant shootings and robberies.
Properties on southside go up year on year.
> Imagine having shootings xD
Yea ik
I’ve had a few shootings around here, property prices keep going up
I'm more willing to work for it than investing money in a market.
Shootings don't really tie into property value.
My point is that you don't have to be rich and you don't have to have a ton of knowledge about investing to make safe investments and grow your wealth
As long as it’s not a gang area it’s fine
It helps if you know things.
I'm not that interested in gambling.
It's fun as a hobby or if you aren't basing your life on it.
I don't have the money to invest my life on right now.
You don’t have to be rich but you need a ton of luck
I'm saving, and playing it cautious.
You can even use services like betterment which does the investments for you all you do is put in what kind of thing you want to use the money for, when you'll need it, and how much you put into it every year
@fair bronze yeah they've gone up nation wide, so even in area's with shootings/crime/whatever xD
Yeah lol
I don't have money to invest, what makes you think I have money to pay people to invest money I don't have for me?
Shootings aren't tied to propety values.
Because as much as the world likes to make America seem like a war zone... it isn't.
You are more likely to die driving to work than getting shot... ever.
That's with everything (;
And in big cities even teh risk of floods doesn't affect property values.
Cause what are you going to do?
Not live in the city?
Just like you are more likely to die on the road than in a plane
Drive a 2 hour commute?
They aren't free but you'll make a lot more money than if you just hold onto cash in a bank
You'll lose money due to inflation that way
I'm not willing to risk it.
If the market turns sour I have no fall back plan.
I don't buy into that weird American thing of investing is the right thing to do.
That's why you don't invest 100% of your wealth
I don't have much to invest.
My point is you could have, that's all
I need to keep my money here on me in case I get a job offer in Flagstaff or some shit.
I could have, and I would not have a car I like.
Yes you would
I'd be miserable, annoyed, and questioning my self.
As I laid out
You ignore what I've said.
So I'll say it again.
I'm risk averse.
The stock market is a risk.
I'm not willing to take.
What car is the Stock Market? Haven't heard of the brand Stock before, probably never sold here
Is it as good as Tesla?
It's called a Ferrari.
You buy it to keep in a garage in hopes it'll be worth something in 30 years.
> imagine having a garage and not using it for storage
Two car garage for guess how many cars?
I have like 6 bicycles in my garage
4
lol I wish.
The day I turn 18 I'm opening a Robinhood account
It's not the biggest garage.
We have 5 bicycle, but we live here with 3 xD
Doing anything in the economy is risky
I'll invest when I can afford it.
We have a like... 10 car garage and 1 sits outside (mine)
Holding money in a bank is a risk
My money is insured in a bank.
Having a credit card is a risk
well two garages
> imagine having a multiple car garage
Investing is a risk
Yes I've seen it
I'm just happy I don't have to park outside.
That shit ruined my Accord.
Bird shit, sun, sap.
Mine sits outside sadly
bummer
Not immediately under a tree tho
I didn't have a choice.
I wasn't about to park my car on the street.
Mines outside 24/7
Same here
I did wash it today 👀
I want to park mine inside but the CNC router takes up one of the car bays 😂
It's white again
me corsa diked
My car was clean, but already has paw prints on her.
My cat likes to climb all over the cars.
Oh you got the new Corolla
yep
It is such a nice car
Oof yikes, don't those nails scratch the paint?
It's teeny rho
I’ve driven the 1.2T and 2.0 Hybrid
The backseat was miniscule in the Corolla
Really impressed by it
But I've decided to take a more relaxed approach. Scratches will happen. No reason to stress.
He has a 2.0 manual because US
Oh yeah. It is the 2.0 manual.
The rear seat isn’t huge no
(yes it was a hatchback)
(with anti theft device)
lol
If only we got the 2.0
It's not a big car, but I don't plan on carrying people so it's a non-issue for me.
I almost wish it was a 2 door.
Doesn’t mean you have to get a smart
I'd not get a stick myself, but I'm also down with electric cars so I clearly have no taste
JD: one word: super high emissions taxes
Yup
lol smart
to put it kindly.
Smart cars are crud
A Yaris is a better idea.
Corolla is too small for me, but a nice little car
Same price, bigger and better fuel economy.
I mean the sedan is pretty big in the back.
The hatchback is 100% meant for a different market.
Genesis G70 is borderline too small
I don't know why Toyota is selling the hatchback in the US, but I'm happy.
Lowkey I'd get the Genesis GV70 when it releases
To attract more youthful buyers?
I'd say they prefer the hatchback over the sedan
And, well, they already make it, so why not bring it to the US?
Oof
Is that for real?
They've got the covered up version driving around
Didn't they reveal a new G90 or something a few days ago?
So this is a bit extrapolated
There's something dopey about it.
The angle
oh a render?
Yeah
Real ones ^^
G70 is a nice looking little sport sedan but the trunk is unusable
Interior is really nice tho.
Both aesthetically and quality wise
Russelsheim plates 👀
So it's being tested by Kia
Hyundai owns Kia so
They should have just stuck a big ass on it, and called it a wagon.
Yeah I know
A lot of modern sedans are begging for a wagon or shoot brake version.
Oof yes please
G70 needs more cargo space and it's perfect
And yes I'm a bit bummed the wagon never made it to the US for the Corolla.
> Golf clubs
But they look nothing like a VW?
oh that is small
Yep
ye
much bigger
But the interior and driving experience of the Genesis is better
Bigger backseat in stinger too
I personally nearly never use my trunks full capacity
I wonder if there's any space below the cargo floor on the g70
Maybe there's a spare under there
It DOES!
There is a temp spare (donut I assume) but hey better than a fix a flat kit
I've got a full size spare with a full rim 😂
Think the rim is even painted, could be wrong tho
> imagine having a trailer xD
> imagine having a car which can tow that much xD
> imagine having the license to pull that combination xD
my dad has an old pickup (1997 F250 w/ Banks kit)
had to Google banks kit
Looks nice
@stoic ledge I can tow you
Yeah but he could also just sit inside the car
@vital glen ok do it
Yeah no nvm
Just wait for the Tesla Cyberboat
Also found out that the back side window of the truck prototype wasn't armored glass, so that's why it also broke when Franz hit it with a steel ball
Fracture pattern was also different
That new Tesla pickup must be really fast as they put the graphics on low
It's going to sell very well to police departments
I'll probably get shot for pointing and laughing at them.
Especially the long range and the large payload and towing cap
No sane department is gonna pay 70 grand for a truck.
Then the Tesla will be radically more expensive.
For what is currently not even road legal.
Nah bc Teslas can integrate a lot of what police spend so much for ice cars
"The city of Fairfield purchased four Ford Police Interceptor all-wheel drive utility vehicles earlier this month at a price tag of $105,960. That price includes a base cost of $25,000 per vehicle, plus $5,000 for a specialized police package that includes protective screens and mounts for laptops. They will replace four Crown Victoria cruisers with more than 100,000 miles on each of them."
Also 4 Ford SUVs cost 25,000 dollars.
They can get 3 of those for the price of one Tesla.
And the Cybertruck will still need integration for various police gear.
Driving up cost.
Also I see very very few pick up trucks being used by police departments.
So 30k before the department makes any of the required modifications
So all the equipment, potential engine upgrades, increased armoring in the doors and stronger glass
Yea that's what the article you quoted from
The automakers have specific packages they sell to government agencies.
You said 30k before shit
It's 30k with all shit being done.
"That price includes a base cost of $25,000 per vehicle, plus $5,000 for a specialized police package"
25k plus 5k.
Yes, which is 25k for the car, and 5k that adds the divider screen behind the driver and a mount for a laptop
That's a total cost of 30k.
It's various mods such as.
The article is no exhaustive.
The cars don't get engine upgrades.
It's usually a heavy duty alternator and a bigger radiator to cope with the heat.
That comes factory standard.
Otherwise heavier suspension... also factory stock.
Wheels and tires are factory stock.
The cars are purchased as mostly complete. All that's required is the local department swag such as laptops.
Not the laptop or a crash bar or lights or armor or better windshield and more
Yea there are
No, they aren't.
Unless you can prove me otherwise.
You talk, but give no evidence.
Right now even if the total cost is 35 grand.
Yes there are such thing as stronger windshields
Why?
Why does a cop car need a "stronger windshield"
Where is your source on that?
Not all need them
But if you're in a crime prone area then it helps to have a windshield that doesnt allow 9mm through
Cause I'm calling bullshit on even one car having an aftermarket law enforcment specific window.
"No, they do not.
It would be cost prohibitive to equip standard police vehicles with bullet proof glass (actually bullet resistant glass would be more accurate). Also, there is the issue of police cars being shot at (a relatively rare event in the United States)."
Quora disagrees with you.
Should I tweet Detroit and find out from them?
We now offer a new line of armored police car kits for law enforcement and government agencies. These kits primarily offer protection for the front
That isn't common.
Article taken from: amny.com
The NYPD convened Tuesday what the commissioner called a “show and tell” of bullet-resistant glass and doors to be installed on more than 3,800 patrol vehicles.
The bullet-resistant doors will be installed by the end of the year; the wind...
And how much cost does it add?
Cause last I heard most departments do NOT bulletproof their cars.
hey hey I know you're lagging a bit here, but answer my questions.
I never said all do
Then stop acting like they all do.
Nope
No wonder people block you on twitter.
You backpedal and move your opinions around so fast it would make a modern day politician nauseous.
I specifically stated that some add those modifications
Standard cost of a police cruiser is 30k.
Not all
Period. End of story.
Yes the starting price is 30k
Yes
Full price is 30k.
No
You saying yes doesn't make it so.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
For the next three bullshit statements you make.
You cannot buy the car for 30k and the next day use it on the road as a cruiser
Your own source agrees with this
Our local PD has custom explorers, and a Model S, a Bolt, and a Highlander
No, you buy it for 25k, and a few weeks later they're on the road.
Oh and a few Tauruses
For an extra 5 grand.
oh wait... I was wrong.
I do think they'll sell a few to police, not a ton tho.
Check out Ohio's state contract prices for six police cars.
Cops get discounts on cop cars.
Starting price is about 20k.

It's even lower than you are pretending.
Pretending?
Tesla Cybertruck will be a meme DARE car for school officers.
I'm using your source
You are arguing against me without reading what I say.
there's lots of different configs for explorers tho. Some of them here have the base 2L, some have the 3.7, some have an Ecoboost
It will sell well because of it's specs
You are making shit up as you go along.
Nope
The specs are no better than the F150.
Which is a fraction of the price.
Try again.
No.
Try again.
Stop clutching your Elon Musk picture, and think for a few minutes.
More power, more torque, more payload, more towing cap, higher acceleration...
But yea
If you get the tri motor, maybe.
Nothing better
But cops don't tow much.
Tesla is vastly more expensive.
The truck is virtually unproven.
Servicing will be a bitch.
Service?
The costs are unknown.
Yes, I'm not going into this again.
Cops cars have vastly more wear than civilian counterparts.
Yes, and?
They idle their cars constantly
No shit.
No problem of that with ev
They do more than sit around eating donuts.
Ofc
Then why are you stating the obvious?
But the majority of a shift the cars aren't moving
You have totally ignored the issue of cost.
Just putting wear on the engine
It's not 25k, it's 30k per your source
Tesla doesn't have a cop discount program like the big 3 do.
I posted two sources.
Try again buddy.
😂
YOu still ignore the higher cost of the Tesla.
You do realize that, right?
The Cybertruck will cost more?
You know... more dollars to buy?
And, if Tesla adopts this which it makes sense if they do, they could incorporate the software the police use into the truck
That's a big if.
And internet comes standard with the cars
So no monthly mobile data charge for them
Yea I agree the purchase price will probably be higher in most cases
But like, end costs will be less
"probably"
In what cases would it be cheaper?
😂
Is Tesla going to give a 75% discount?
Cause I might have to set up my own police department to get a discount like that.
Ford F150 police version is 45K
And they could buy the 50k truck and it would beat this F150
50k can do 10k lbs
Fastest f150 has a 0-60 in 3.9
Which has like 300hp more than the offering from ford
The dual motor tesla truck 0-60 is less than 4.5
Pretty likely its a bit faster
Also, most police are putting less than 300 miles on their cars per 8 hour shift, so most of them could pretty easily buy the 50k version and be fine in terms of range. It would also line up pretty well in terms of shift changes, cause then it isn't an issue as to who fills the car up on their shift.
police don't need a truck that can accelerate like that
F150s, Chevy Suburbans, and Dodge Chargers
the Chargers do the pursuit
yus
Looking good.
an FB that's a lot less rusty than the one my friend had
it became a parts car for one that had been sitting in a garage for 20 years
it has an undercoat, so it's fairly clean; but I also don't know how bad the rust might be underneath
you could look inside the rockers from 30 feet away on my friend's car
it sat for 15 years under a tree, and 15 years in a garage before that
i was just under my car changing oil the other night, and wow it was actually almost perfectly rust free
I'm keeping my eyes open for a rust free shell for my car
aside from a few tiny specks on exhaust, theres no rust i could see
I need to do an oil change in the FB, but I'm putting it off until spring. The oil was nearly empty when I got the car, and it's got fresh oil and filter in it now; so it should last the winter, especially since I won't be driving it that much.
if it's more than 8 months old it has rust, guaranteed
oof
I see a lot of pickup police cars in the midwest
really? I never see any
Not in the cities
yea, not in the cities, lol
I see them often but they aren't pursuit vehicles
But in suburbs and rural areas they are pretty common
they're undercover or they're for towing police boats and stuff
my local PD has one, but mostly Explorers.
The f150 cop is really really sneaky though
best unmarked they have
Idk what the ratio is btw suvs/sedans vs trucks
both grandparents on both sides of my family live in small ass towns in buttfuck nowhere midwest. Never seen a pickup cop
F150s are the perfect undercover police car here
the F150 is the best selling vehicle here, beats the Corolla and everything else
yea
yep
It's always "Truck Month" in the US
I'm in Canada
it's stupid easy to get a good deal on pretty much every truck on the market
everyone and their dog has an F150 or a Ram 1500 or a Chevy Silverado
I feel like I should get a truck as a daily because the roads here suck
@carmine summit Get a monster truck
as if every Toyota Hybrid wasn't based off the Prius
They're all built on a common platform these days anyway.
@civic girder It's everything around the drive train is mediocre
I'd like a 67 ish F250 longbed with a 6.354 Perkins. slap a 3.21 rear end in it and get like 30 mpg
nah, Prius is actually quite a nice vehicle
I'd like a Model 3 Performance
I have lots of reasons to buy a truck
I do but I like slammed econoboxes
I'd rock one of those for the apparently super simplicity of it.
speaking of 90s Dodge Cummins my dad has one
My grandpa has a 01 cummins
You are fooling yourself @civic girder
but a 67 F250 with a 6.354 Perkins would be way simpler
The 90s Ram diesel apparently had no software involved.
Mechanical fuel injection and everything.
Yeah
it's a medium duty truck engine in a light duty truck
all old diesels are mechanical
mechanical injection is......interesting
that screams unreliable
Give me that with a manual transmission.
mine has very obnoxious software
it was manual
oh yeah a Cummins with a 5 speed is good
it was very angry today because my brother left the door cracked open and killed the battery nearly, barely cranked over
why would you want a VW anyways, unless it's a really old one
-.-
Volkswagen holds no interest to me.
that's why you have a car that doesn't give two shits about the door being open
we used to have a 1988 square body GMC Sierra 2500 3+3 with a 6.354 Perkins and a 5 speed trans, that thing was basically indestructible
battery can't drain if there's no sensors
It can drain if the cabin light is on.
its the interior door lights that kill it
and it got 30 mpg
i have the roof lights disabled
yea, my FB's door light doesn't function
i wonder if I can take out the bulb 🤔
so I could leave the doors open for months and the battery would still be good
lol
the door light uses the map light, but the sensors that tell it to turn on either don't work, or that whole circuit is broken
map light still works tho
Real men don't use electricity
false
for mine everything works but the interior lights have a switch to disable them, but not the door lights
real men use a proper balance of electricity and mechanical
which is annoying
lmao
No
when the battery dies, the ECU loses its programming and adaptations
Real men hand crank their engines Everytime
lame
It builds character
so it falls back to default and has to rebuild the configuration as you drive lool
try hand craking a 6.354 perkins
real men use manual choke to start their carbureted car
you will not be able to
shifts rougher and takes longer to accellerate and shift, until it gets its head on straight again and goes back to normal
the rebuild spec is 400 psi compression
just have a manual
that too
problem solved
that solves the rough shifts
lmao
I can't engrish
me either lol
the adaptive ecu is okay, it makes it shift much nicer as it learns my driving style compared to the old guy we bought it from
I should probably go check the FB's oil. I topped it off earlier but gotta wait an hour for the engine to cool and the oil to settle
when it learns my driving style its much more willing to drop a gear and go, before it would be very unhappy shifting down, and would not want to move in any sort of haste
with his driving profile
sounds like the Prius
well he never took it on the highway
passing sucks because the throttle response is complete ass
when I got it the wheels were terribly out of balance
the steering wheel was shaking crazy bad on the highway
the RX-7 is also a lot better now that vacuum advance actually works, lol
Just duct tape the wheel in place @indigo coral
so in order to get everything reasonably in spec, I had to get it balanced, aligned, then balanced again
It can't shake if it can't move
the tyres are worn unevenly but theyre in the back and seem to not be overly compromised so its fine
I'm waiting for that to bite you in the ass one day
no cords showing or anything, just worn the tread down
its just the interior bit, the bad part isn't even touching teh ground anymore
front was way out of alignment
which is resolved now
You just have to do it as in the model T days when you need a new tire.
It worked for Henry, it'll work for you.
just burn oil, be like Mazda, be a rotary
or a VW
nah, if you're gonna burn oil, do it right
but eh, like a quart every couple thousand miles isn't bad for 20 years old
quart for every 1k as part of normal operation
wot
welcome to rotary
only on VWs
nah
it legit says in the RX-7 owner's manual
"You will need to add one quart of mineral motor oil every one thousand miles"
Oof
mine isn't supposed to burn any, but 132k miles and 20 years doesn't result in perfect tolerances
and that's on top of the 3k miles recommended oil change schedule
yeah lexus forums recommend 2k-3k oil changes on mine, but thats using natural oil
synth can go 5-6k
using synth in a rotary is a recipe for carbon lock
(1MZ-FE has baaad oil sludge problems w/ normal oil)
synthetic doesn't sludge up near as bad, if at all
but synth doesn't burn as well as conventional oil
rotaries burn motor oil, right?
conventional oil doesn't leave behind as much carbon deposits when burned compared to synthetic
oh well rotary okay
oh yeah rotaries just burn oil.
I also have a miniscule leak somewhere i think but i super don't care enough to deal with it
I've never seen a drop hit the ground
it's probably an internal leak
Brightside is no oil changes, right?
only way I know its there is poking my fingers around underneath the engine
yes and no, you should still do traditional oil changes in a rotary
oh? News to me.
So where's the uhhh... crank case?
you want to keep rotaries topped off on oil. you don't just run them till the empty mark and then top it off and change the filter
Where does the oil sit in a rotary?
everywhere
Like a dry lube system?
@dense shard on the floor of your garage
ayyyyy
obviously rotaries run on oil
i put diesel in this time - michael scott
@RodAdib1 Yup. Sledgehammer impact on door cracked base of glass, which is why steel ball didn’t bounce off. Should have done steel ball on window, then sledgehammer the door. Next time …
157
Franz got too thicc of muscles
OOF
Ngl, its still impressive the ball didnt go through the window.
I bet it would've with a traditional window.
the back window they threw it at was made of normal tesla glass, but Franz threw it like 1/2 as hard as he did on the first window, so probably why it didn't go through the second one.
do I go and get my radiator replaced for like $300, or do I just throw in some stop leak and hope it holds out until I sell the damn thing...
Fix it, use it as an argument when you sell it
^
so this is how you defeat the armored glass, one impact on the door, the other on the window
TeslaQ went from "no one will order it" to "the 100k/day order rate is showing signs of slowing down" https://t.co/C75iTKEfKg
ok
I just ordered the worlds ugliest truck and here’s why. Tesla Truck, Cyber Truck
ok
ok
Pretty good vid Arial.
You should see injust6's video on it... (I think that's his name)
Doug's gonna make a video talking about it... That'll be interesting xD
THIS...
...is the Tesla Cybertruck
Do people actually realise that they can only configure it in two years if everything goes according to plan
Yea I saw his vid on it @night current
Agreed with most of what he said
@fair bronze I mean the exterior isn't really going to change much from now until then
Like, there will be a few, such as windshield wipers, a 3rd tail light, etc...
No but you're preordering something that won't be on your driveway within at least 2.5 years
I really hope the aesthetics change
Don't forget the mirrors/cameras
Oh yea everyone realizes that
Make it look like a real pickup
How do you know?
It's right on the reserve page
Not a Honda Ridgeline that's confused about it's sexuality
lol
Like, unless you can't read, then it's hard to miss
Most people can't read
👎
Oh you haven't seen anything lol
They should learn how to read
They should, but that's the thing: they won't
#375881291943510016 is a great example of this
I have years of experience in customer service, 80% of the people I was helping didn't read everything
It's crazy
But you don't need to read everything
Well you kinda do if you plan to purchase a $50k truck
This is like, in your face when preordering
Yes but that doesn't matter
People are stupid
It sounds ricidulous, but that's because it is
I mean, to be honest, most people who read contracts dont read the entire thing
No and that's how they get in trouble
that's how you get a 25% interest rate or something
but like, you don't even need to look at the contract for this
And screw yourselfn
Especially if you're doing riskful stuff like spending a lot of money at once or investing
People are hyped and 100$ isn't much
Most of those reservations are gonna disappear once it comes time to pay up
Say whatever you like but this time I know exactly what I'm talking about
I agree that people don't read the fine print on tons of stuff, fuck everyone doesn't read the agreements when installing software onto their pc
I'm not saying it's a bad thing or whatever
I do!
but most of the videos on the truck mention the production time
the website says it right above the order button and right below the price
No, I don't read software agreements either because they are not legally binding most of the time
people will want to know if their $100 is refundable or not
so they will look at the text below which says it is, and when production is expected to start
I'm just questioning if the hype will still be there for everyone in 2-3 years
Maybe they'll realise they don't actually need a truck?
no, they want it because they have some reasons that convince them to buy it
they don't need it
The hype around it convinced them
very few people actually need a pickup truck, they could just as easily get a SUV or crossover and a roof rack and be fine
It's just like Apple every year
oh the hype around the truck?
Only not $1k but $50k
nah, I'd say it's the range and price
We'll see if that holds up
it's also a big sign to investors that Tesla has a breakthrough battery cost saving technology
because the cost to make the battery required for the base model would be over 10K today
which leaves them with 20k to make the rest of the truck
to get a decent gross margin
so because it's unlikely they can make the rest of the truck for 20k, it points towards the battery being much cheaper, maybe around 40-50% of what it is today
25K seems reasonable for the rest of the truck
Some need a pickup truck (we do) but most people get it for lols
True, also because they are super affordable in the US
"super affordable" like to 50k
What does a base F150 cost
I mean, unless you really need the extra towing capacity, there's not much else that a truck has
yeah
Still cheaper than a base Golf
lol
lol
It's funny because it's somewhat true
The price difference isn't huge
Compared to our country of course
So $35k for a regular one doesn't sound unrealistic
The base XL trim is really barebones tho
When an AM / FM radio is a selling point ...
Not everyone listens to the radio
You don't need anything more (:
XLT is ok, has everything you actually need
True
yeah I know
I feel bad for cops here tho
Rock hard crap seats, no AC etc because when the departments tried to get some small amenities the taxpayers flipped tf out and literally protested at the city hall
So they had to cancel the order and have them take out the AC and stereo and stuff
people got so angry about it
Well... Here it's typically not super hot
So that was their justification.
Well it isn't here either
"it's unfair they're wasting our tax dollars WAHHH"
This summer on a hot day I was driving my mums car home, 5 minutes before I arrived the AC stopped working
I was all sweaty
All because of the last 5 minutes lol
Yeah. Im personally in favor of the cops having a nicer interior and amenities and stuff - they're keeping our city safe, and we treat them like crap? That's fucked up
Exactly, you don't need to give them the most luxurious thing ever but basic amenities like decent seats and AC should be common sense
You can ruin your back if you're sitting on crappy seats all day every day
yes
Don't need a rolls interior but hell, just the interior from the normal Explorer isn't that bad
The sport has an upgraded one but the Limited/XLT still isn't bad
wait so your PD uses base F150s and not the police spec ones?
they have a bunch for undercover work here
Didn't know
and for towing boats and stuff
Our cops have an f150, Sneaky as all hell
Oh yes that's sneaky
It's the best umarked they have
The lights are virtually invisible and you have to know what you're looking for
I never see them but I saw one with the lights on once
that's the only reason I know they exist
the windows are tinted a bit so you can't see the lights in the side windows, the lights in the grille are really hard to see
Mhm
and some of the normally orange lights flash red & blue
The explorer unmarkeds are really obvious
People who want the cyber truck might also want it to reduce the amount they spend on fuel. Which in this case, just switches to cost for energy, but nonetheless is less to get overall.
You'd spend a significant amount less on fuel with the cyber truck
Especially if it was diesel. Therefore people who have trucks right now, might want to switch for this reason. So it's not like everyone is just getting it as a "fun toy".
It has many valuable benefits over a regular truck.
and obnoxiously drone-y on the highway
nah
there's no way the Cybertruck will be able to tow as much as any diesel light duty truck
That's a 20+ year old diesel... Modern day diesels are much more quiet
exactly
[x] doubt that they're quieter than a gas car, it's an inferior technology
not inferior and bet
My friend's grandpa has a 2019 Ram 2500 LongHorn with a 6.7 Cummins
it's quieter than basically anything I've been in
Like I've said, if I'm buying a truck I'm getting a raptor
so an SUV
it's a sports utility vehicle
its a pickup truck
a truck is a form of utility vehicle, that's a sports utility vehicle
by definition
no, its a pickup truck
my uncle did some of the engineering on the Raptor before he retired
it is classed as an SUV
a truck is a utility vehicle
stick a 500hp engine in and offroad suspension then it's a sports utility vehicle
whatever.
The cost to fill up a diesel is way more than the cyber truck, it's still a significant saving in price.
@indigo coral @carmine summit the Ford Raptor is classified as a full-size pickup truck. Not an SUV.
Has a bed -> pickup truck
Raised FWD Hatchback which can't go offroad -> cross-over
Else -> SUV
Sport utility vehicle (SUV) is a category of motor vehicles that combine elements of road-going passenger cars with features from off-road vehicles, such as raised ground clearance and four-wheel drive.
That makes a large amount of vehicles an suv, lol
that makes a troop transport HMMWV an SUV too
The next line on Wikipedia is important too:
There is no commonly agreed definition of an SUV, and usage varies between countries.
Oprah voice You're right... And you're right... We're all right!
the crowd cheers. Everyone is right.
I can still get decent mileage out of her.
pogey 1L/100km according to your fuel economy gauge 🙃
I get like 9 something per 100k
I should be getting closer to 8l/100km but I think I might have a bad o2 sensor
The car's computer says that I got 6.9L/100km on this tank.
But actual consumption is more like 7.5 if I calculate it myself.
58 liters for 780 km's.
Metric fuel economy is confusing
Sincerely,
An American
More lower. More better.
Instead of how far you get on one gallon, it's how much fuel it takes to go 100 km's.
interesting
Imperial units are confusing
Sincerely,
Everybody
xD
But yes, I also find x l/100km confusing, 🇳🇱 is one of the few countries which uses km/l which makes much more sense imho
8l/100km == 12.5km/l == 29 MPG US
I'd say that the euro system makes more sense.
You can mentally set a distance. How much gas does your car burn per a set distance.
Then again I'm used to the American system of how far will a gallon take me.
mpg makes sense to me, but meh I'm a stupid american
They all make sense if you think about it.
Just differences in culture I imagine.
Also using gallons per 100 miles might make Americans realize just how much fuel they use going to work. lol
"oh my car gets 20 miles per gallon... that's not bad at all."
vs.
"Oh shit I use 5 gallons of gas just to get to and from work everyday... shiiiiii"
That's 5 jugs of sweet tea. That's like... a lot of tea.
just because you have a big american vehicle doesn't mean it has to be inefficient
it's perfectly reasonable to have a 3+3 long bed square body Chevy that gets 30+ mpg
I've seen it
If you drive it like a granny maybe.
nah ditch the 454
So in order to get better fuel economy... you need to do an engine swap.
a very simple engine swap
I'm not saying you are wrong, but that's not practical.
an engine swap that needs literally like 2 wires
alternator and starter and nothing else
And a new engine, and several hours of work.
Most Americans will just buy a new truck.
I'm not most americans
And the rest would swap in a different engine for more power, not more fuel economy.
more torque than a 454 by a lot, and 30 mpg
the engine I'm talking about was mainly used in marine and agricultural applications
nope
Do I really need to start adding a disclaimer to all my tongue in cheek observations?
