ah, found it.
so hold on
The Porsche barely outran the Tesla.
Despite no launch control in the Tesla...?
lol
the Model S is still crazy quick even w/o launch control
So factor in Range Mode, no Ludicrous Plus, and not using launch control, it makes sense the Tesla lost vs the unfair fighting porsche
😛
Honestly?
It was close enough.
The Tesla was off the line faster, it was ahead through the first half.
iirc MT hit 2.23s in the Model S
More range.
The cars weren't fully charged?
Over 85%.
ah
well I bet that MT knows how to actually test a car
its like that Jaguar video lol
meh
they used a nearly dead Model X 75d or something against the iPace
I thnk it had like 15 miles of range or something
I'm not a huge fan of American car mags.
no this was an advert for the iPace by Jaguar
Car and Drive is kinda shit... so by extension so is Road and Track.
MT isn't brilliant imo.
they used to be better
Which leaves Automobile in the US... and that's more lifestyle than car reviews.
I want to drive / sit in a GS F 👀
Honestly the Model 3 has 3 weaknesses.
Sure.
But honestly the paranoia of it getting keyed is keeping me from dreaming about owning it.
A lot of people are keying Teslas.
why
I mean, it's like 10 cases thus far
just to be assholes?
Because they have tiny penises.
the owners or the ones doing the keying 😛
and I bet we're hearing about it more than other cars because of sentry mode
I can't think of any other reason tbh.
I don't think there are many if any cars in that range getting keyed or vandalized.
i mean the squeaky wheel gets the grease
Well, at least you'll get footage of the person doing it
I'd absolutely get it wrapped.
I'll get footage, sure.
if I buy a Stinger / GS F / G70 i'll certainly get it covered
But my car still got fucked by some jerk with a.... complex?
and ceramic coated
I'm skipping the ceramic.
why?
I don't see a point.
easier to keep clean
wrapping a car is like 7k isnt it?
i had looked into wrapping my plastic as an alternative to painting and it would have been almost 3k
if i bought the vinyl and did it myself it would have been over 1k still
No way a vinyl wrap is more expensive than a paint job.
to get enough square footage to cover the plastic bottom halfs
🤷
i have no idea
anything regarding car stuff is expensive
7 grand is almost 30% of what my car is worth.
I'd be willing to pay 5k at some point in the future.
But only if it meant I could do a fun wrap like the old school Martini color scheme.
for example if I get a stinger I might swap out badges but idk
thats still like 100 dollars
https://cdn.motor1.com/images/mgl/mBeR4/s1/porsche-second-skin-wrap-service.jpg something like this.
I like this one, but I'm not sure if I could ever justify it / if it would void my warranty
its just a lot of money to spend on something thats simply aesthetic
I paid an extra few grand for the aesthetics of the XSE Corolla over the SE.
Hell... I could have gotten a Honda Fit, but the styling of the Corolla had me smitten.
its like 50 bucks to upgrade the badge on the stinger rip
Lots of Chinese knockoffs to buy.
my car is starting to have exhaust issues -.-
time to straight pipe
^ I approve this message
The time has come for James May to add a car to the garage, and this one is going to be a big move into the future for him. He has been keeping it secret for...
I want a house with a garage.
idk why, but i knew it was gonna be a tesla
It's the shape
^+1
This is going to be E🅱ic
Don't mind me, just cleaning up the place. https://i.imgur.com/P9ynpGp.mp4

i don't want to fill at this gas station for sure
Oof yikes
he's "cleaning"

Rip
Only 540 E-Tron's sold? Damn, even in our tiny country Audi sold more of them
Wow
As expected X)
iPace sold extremely well one month here, after that sales died again xD
11-2018: 607
12-2018: 2651
1-2019/10-2019: 200
Thank you, government
I bet you only a fraction of those i-Paces are still on the road.
Make a more informed buying decision at CARFAX by first viewing vehicle history on this 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350.

what about it?
what you think
are you buying it? 😛
how many cars do you have o.O
2010 lexus es350 1995 lexus ls400 2018 ford f-150
the ls400 has like 8 or so control arms. I've seen exhaust hangers that were thicker
not control arms
what are they called
strut rod
everyone wants the gs-f so i've seen the rc-f get no love and they're going new off lots with deep discounts
I like sedans lol
same
Coupe isn't practical enuogh for me
idk if i found a honda accord sport coupe with tha v6 and the 5 speed manual in good shape
id knock over an old lady to get it

is it a 6 speed?
I think they had them as early as 2016
yeah 6MT my bad
they had them in 2016
Save $3,640 on a Honda Accord Coupe EX-L V6 6MT near you. Search over 2,800 listings to find the best local deals. We analyze millions of used cars daily.
Big cars.
If you can find it.
Go for a 07-08 4 door Accord.
They had a manual with the V6 for a short time.
A report from Driving.ca shows in the third quarter of 2019, more electric cars were sold in the U.S. than cars with manual transmissions.
I bet you only a fraction of those i-Paces are still on the road.
@dense shard what? Why do you think that?
I've checked: so 3.458 I-Paces were originally brought in to our country... And 3.752 I-Paces are currently on the road xD So there have even been imported some more I-Paces (: In total, 21 I-Paces have been exported
evs outsold manual.. waaait the us sells more automatic than manual 🤔
bruh basically 90%+ of cars at US dealershits are automatic
xD Why else do you think manuals are the #1 anti theft device in the US? xD
It's the same in Canada, barely any new vehicles have manual transmissions
On a lot of vehicles that have a manual option it's just that, an option
Autos come standard on pretty much everything
The last couple of years, autos have increased in popularity here in Europe too sadly enough 😦
Manuals are still the standard choice, with autos an option, but often you can only get the more powerful engine with an auto only
@stoic ledge And the same or better milage thanks to cvts
Not that many CVTs tho
CVTs in the Toyota Hybrids, Ford Mondeo Hybrid, Nissan X-Tronic (but nobody buys those), and now Opel has a new CVT in the Astra which is still a GM design, so the Astra is the first and last Opel with that transmission.... and that are all the current CVTs we can get iirc
Zf 8hp for the win
i never drove an automatic 🤔
only cars i know that are automatic as standard are newer BMWs and and their drivers cant even drive those things 🤷
do you muricans make driving licenses in automatic too?
driving licences are transmission agnostic
Can drive stick or auto w/ the same licence
Manual cars are getting quite Rae
Rare*
it's best to take a driving test in an auto here, you don't need to take it in a manual
there are some things you can lose a lot of points on in a manual and they don't even talk about that in driver's ed
Driving test in auto = only allowed to drive auto
Driving test in manual = allowed to drive both auto and manual
Atleast that's here in the Netherlands, and if I'm correct in all EU countries
Here it's take it in anything drive anything besides like CDL stuff
That's really dumb btw, the manual auto rule
the system here is kind of annoying
to get your "G" licence you drive anything that a G lets you drive, anything from a Smart car to a Ford F550, manual or auto.
if you pass the test in a small town in a smart car, you can go to Toronto with a 1 ton truck with a trailer as long as it's registered for under 11,000kg
Oof, here you get a "B" license which is valid for a vehicle combo (including trailer) under 3500kg
Or, you can go over it, but then the car has to be < 3500kg and the trailer can me a maximum of 750kg
hmm...
That's amusing. I won't be surprised if manuals don't totally disappear by 2025 in the US.
EVs outsold diesels in 🇳🇱 pogey
Small diesels had tax credits here in 2010-2014 pogey
Diesel is hella expensive
Diesel is cheaper as gas here... and they are more fuel efficient
Costs more than the premium plus whatever stuff here
oof
The diesel itself is cheaper here, but there's an extra tax on the cars
Road tax is twice as high here on diesels
If you want efficient buy a volt or a Tesla
And the CO2 emissions tax now go trough the roof
We don't have the Volt :/
Rip
@stoic ledge diesels have way less CO2 emissions than gas powered cars
@viral matrix yes, but the tax is higher xD
I kinda like the Volt
But Chevrolet isn't sold here anymore
It's not the Co2 they're taxing here on diesels
it's the microparticles
If it could get an EV range of 50 miles in real world driving... it would be sufficient for me pogey
Here they tax all cars based on CO2 emissions, but depending on the drivetrain the tax per gram of CO2 can differ xD
Oof nice
they run it out every day tho, since their commute is about 95 miles round trip
Charge it at your destination if you can (: Many work places/offices have facilities to charge cars
50 * 2 = 100 > 95 miles round trip 😉
And it looks quite nice
ye
So overall: not bad
Is the EV powertrain the same as in the Bolt?
no
Ah :/ I thought maybe it was, since the Bolt/Ampera-e also does 0-62 in 7s
Ah
Sorry, I had that mixed up
Used is cheaper
Would be strange is used was more expensive 😛
a 2017 Volt can be had for 15k
with higher miles
well
lots of TEsla Model 3s are still for sale for more than MSRP
Some dealers are asking 200k+ for a Model 3 Performance still, calling it "one of the rarest cars on the road"
LOL.
I sure must have good luck if I can see 5 of the rarest car in the world in a day
yep
also the toyota dealer near me has the supra in a glass box and won't let you even come see it
rip
they want 1 million
according to them it was like the 3rd one produced for soemthing
or something*
lots of crackheads running dealers here
I see some nice 2017-2018 Volt Premier models for <$20k with <20k miles on it 👀 Not bad
Calculates import cost
Wtf 1 milion for a Supra LOL
yea glass box too
i bet toyota corporate will bring one to the auto expo next week
ill get to see it then
Oof nice
im excited
i hvae to suffer thru wisdom teeth removal between now and then thuogh xD
thursday 😬
never had anaestheisa before so oof
I can't find NEDC or WLTP results of the Volt, and converting EPA to NEDC/WLTP doesn't work for PHEVs/EV w/ range extender GWmythiFeelsBadMan
Ok so some quick calculations, based on a 2018 Chevrolet Volt Premier @ $19k USD:
- Shipping: $1500
_____
- incl. VAT (21%) + import tax (10%): $27.275
- CO2 emissions tax: $1350
_____
Total 2018 VOlt price: $28625 / €25.5k
Yikes
...you have to pay tax on the volt?
while there's no emissions tax on the new Explorer?
Emissions tax on the new Explorer is ~€700 according my calculations (CO2 emission was given) 😉 Maybe my CO2 emission calculation on the Volt is wrong, idk
Depending on the CO2 emissions tax, it's €24.5-25.5k to have it registered here
Ready for the next summer
pogey
I don't like when people say diesel is objectively bad because some countries have a tax on it
that's incorrect
yeah, it may be rather expensive in that place, but it's great here
Diesel is losing relevance.
Also it's always been more expensive. Especially in the US were the cost of fuel is vastly higher.
hmmm
The cheapest I can get gas here is 98.9 cents/litre, the same gas station has full serve diesel for 99.9 cents/litre
The engines tend to be more expensive to produce. Add emissions to that and the overall cost is thousands higher. And with higher fuel costs... they pay off is waaaay down the line.
full serve diesel is 1 cent per litre more expensive than self serve gas
It's something like 70 cents per gallon worse in the US.
take my car for example, I get like 9.5L/100km. The same year car with a diesel gets like 5L/100km
and I've never seen diesel that expensive in the US
ah I was a bit wrong. Currently it's about 50 cents more expensive per gallon.
Doesn't help gasoline is fairly cheap now, and advances in modern gasoline has really closed the gap on efficiency.
For the past few years my family has driven to Florida or Louisiana for a week or so in March, first time was in a 1996 Golf with a diesel. Cost $250 round trip from Canada to Florida and driving around every day while there
since then we've been taking my mom's 2009 Jetta TDI, it costs about $275 round trip with a lot of driving
actually that $250 isn't to Florida, that's from here to Louisiana to Florida and back here
biggest price gap I saw was like 10 cents/gallon
I'm guessing whatever state you're in has a tax on diesel
I live in Alabama.
And in my immediate area the price difference is still pretty dramatic.
Regular is ~2.15
Diesel is over ~2.50
that's cheap
That's still a pretty sizable price jump.
most places here are like $1.06/L, that's about $4 canadian per gallon
$3 us per gallon
Well yes, the overall price is low.
Which helps the overall cost of diesel even less.
The fuel savings are far lower right now.
diesel and gas are both about $3 gallon here
And here it's different.
Diesel doesn't make much if any financial sense in the US for passenger vehicles.
which is why diesel isn't objectively worse, it's only more expensive in some places
Define worse.
Cause there's also the added annoyance of filling your urea tanks.
worse meaning it costs more to use than gas
and you don't need urea if you have an old vehicle
any passenger car older than like 2012 doesn't have it
I thought we were talking about new cars.
Dodge was cheating too, just wasn't nearly as much publicity as VW
Dodge got reamed appropriately.
And they didn't sell millions on the basis of their diesel engines being a cleaner alternative.
RAM sold their diesels as the more fuel efficient alternative... which it was.
The recall pissed a lot of owners off since power and fuel economy went down.
if I had to choose between inhaling exhaust from a pre emissions fix TDI and a TSI the same age, I'd pick the TDI
I'd choose between neither as both should meet emissions standards.
NOx isn't the only part of emissions, it's the only measured thing though
And if someone breaks the law, they should get punished.
Especially when it was done on purpose.
This wasn't an oops.
correct, I'm not saying that they shouldn't follow the law
actually even after the fix the TDIs don't have urea
they just have like 1% less power and the fuel economy is the same
yeah kinda
Yeah, I think I'll avoid VW in the future.
I mean the main benefit of the way they did it was cost
Between their less than stellar rep, cut rate products in the USDM, and lying to consumers...
Color me unimpressed.
the emissions fix was pretty expensive and put more stress on the cooling system, but it didn't hurt fuel economy or power in a noticeable way
That's on them.
They should have developed a better system with more cooling to begin with.
Instead of this.
I would say the only positive was they're now developing electric cars.
But those aren't showing up to be Tesla killers...
Because they cheated, the emissions control was much cheaper to make and the cooling system was cheaper to make. If they hadn't cheated, the cooling systems would have been more expensive, the emissions control would be more expensive, and the whole car would cost a lot more
It was all budgeting and marketing at fault, not just avoidance of emissions control
Instead we got that weird shit from the last gen with a solid axle in the back, cheap interiors, and an 8 valve base engine from the 80s.
I mean it's been updated to the point of things not being alike at all
VW got the cheapest compact onto the market, at the cost of making a car peopled wanted.
And every year after that, it's been an effort to right the wrongs they made.
Refresh saw a return of IRS, dropping the anchor of a base engine.
All of the new TDIs are 16v, the last 8v TDIs in mainstream cars were in the 2000s
This generation FINALLY saw a return to a universal platform... for the Jetta at least.
I'm not talking TDI here.
The last gen Jetta's base engine was a joke.
the 2.0? they're bulletproof
And made no power, slow, outdated boat anchors who couldn't justify existing because their fuel economy wasn't great.
115 hp isn't that bad
It's pretty tragic in 2011.
The Corolla at that time made more power with a smaller engine.
they're bulletproof reliable though
Oof did they still use the 2.0 115hp in 2011? 👀
yeah
Nice
lol
Then VW introduced that gen of an engine. The 1.8T.
Then dropped it a few years later for that 1.4T.
I'd be willing to bet that as long as those 2.0s have proper maintenance, they'll last for at least 300k miles
Yes, but so does the competition.
Why would I buy a slower, weaker, less efficient VW, when I can do better with the competition?
It's a USDM VW.
and your point is?
Yeah it doesn't have the super ultra mega premium soft touch dashboard on the US models
Or independent rear suspension.
Base Golfs here don't either Pogey
The last gen Jetta was an exercise of denying the US market a good compact sedan.
In a bid to gain more market, VW screwed over previous owners by introducing meh products.
We also got the previous gen Jetta.... as a hybrid due to tax incentives
They cut corners, and gained nothing from it.
the Jetta can hardly be called compact
Yell yes, that's the car hierarchy xD
Mind you the Civic wasn't great throughout the early 2010s.
+- 2010 US Civic is different from the EU Civic 😄
what's so bad about having a rear beam instead of multilink on a passenger car anyways?
why would people buy a vw Cause its a vw
Better handling
vw isnt a cool nor fancy brand
there's no noticeable difference in handling or comfort for the average consumer
People still associate it with reliability here, even though the last 20 years they haven't really been that reliable xD
And yet Toyota moved to an independent rear suspension for the new Corolla.
Beam axles in this day and age are associated with cost cutting.
1995 VW TDI's will run forever
Mazda I test drove didn't feel that great tbh. Felt like it was dragging it's rear around.
All the stuff that came after it... nah
Beam axles aren't noticeably different to the average consumer.
isn't the dsg kind of a crap gearbox?
Yes
nah the DSG is great
Guess I'm not an average consumer.
Depending on the type os DSG
comparing it to a PDK
And in this case consumers aren't exactly rushing to buy the Jetta or the new Mazda 3.
???
Wet clutch is ok, dry clutch is shite
PDK is pretty much the best no?
slushbox > Dual clutch autos
I prefer slushboxes ^
Yeah the PDK is basically the best when it comes to autos, some of the DSG transmissions can almost match a PDK
dsg is a vw term
It's a catch all as far as I'm concerned.
Audi S-Tronic is the same
DCT, DSG, Powershitshift.
inb4 a 4 speed from 1999 is more reliable than the crap ass dual clutch from ford
How can you tell the Focus is a euro car?
Who remembers the Audi Multitronictrauma
old stuff is reliable because it's simple, the less there is to break the lower the chances of something breaking
trust me the 99 rx doesn't have a reliable trans
Tbh I haven't seen an auto Focus yet glare
mine feels fairly good right now but lots of people have it fail at like 80k
Or..... literally 0 people bought them because Ford manuals are quite good
and cheaper
infact the last few days, whatever adaptations the ECU did, has made it feel much more powerful and shift smoother
maybe it's because Europeans are smart and don't need the car to do the driving for them
Still amused that if/when manuals are offered, they are cheaper.
sounds like a load of bullshit but its clearly very different than it was last week
manuals are cheaper to build, therefore the consumer can pay less
Too bad most automakers relegate manuals to bargain bin specials.
normally 4 -> 2 is a big shock to the car, if you really plant it
its actually been quite smooth
recently
Choices boiled down to Subaru, Toyota, and Mazda for me.
i have literally no idea what changed
Manuals are cheaper because they are less complicated to build
@indigo coral Didn't your car sit for a longer period of time before you bought it?
not really
Ah, my bad
it was driven, but not fast/hard/long distance
I thought it did
Shorter distances might have something to do with
I know we had a Corsa Auto... and it adjusted itself to the way you drive over time xD So maybe your driving style made it more alive
you wanna talk auto? my dad's second car was a Chrysler Newport with a 3 speed auto
it did 85 MPH in first gear
OOF
mine adapts too
lol
when I got it from 86y/o guy if you stepped on the gas it would bog down real bad
because he never ever laid into it
My Suzuki was an auto.
so I reset the ecu and its been better since then
i swear the last few days it's felt more like 260hp than 200
my car has 90 hp and feels like 95 ish
Car in the 2000s with an engine out of the early 90s.
technically i have 220 but meh
That one had 60 horsepower.
its old so it probably lost a bit
define old
yeah that's old ish
it doesn't FEEL 20y/o
20 isn't that old
probably more like 10y/o
I see 20 year old cars all the time
The Corsa auto we had was a 2003... and well it was an "auto". Opel offered 2 types of autos, a slushbox or a robot manual. Everybody got the robot manual since it was cheaper, lighter and had a gear more.... but it was a single clutch auto/a manual controlled by a ECU. So it wasn't the best transmission.
However, they did bring the automatic to the cheaper segment which was quite nice, only like €500 more compared to the manual where as the slushbox was like €3k more
yes but its old enough to have lost some hp
Get your RX one of those OBD tuning thingies /s
I know
Just pour in some of that compression restore magic oil stuff.
Could just be some lost compression over the years.
are those bad for the car? there's a teeny bit of a oil leak that could be resolved by the seal-fix stuff
its not bad at all
never hit the ground
if it's not dripping it's fine
Never heard anything bad about it tbh.
having oil on your car is good for it
only way I'd fix it is it if actually starts leaking
my car has a leak that isn't really a leak but sometimes I smell oil burning off the exhaust manifold
my car burns a little bit of oil just through old piston rings i think, but again its minimal enough that its not worth fixing
went from high mark to mid/low mark on the dipstick over like 2500 miles/3k miles iirc
not dreadful
I think my car has an oil pressure/level warning
That's... a quart?
a d v a n c e d technology
All cars have an oil warning light.
not enough to bother tearing down the engine to fix
no I mean I think my car has a buzzer
That's still a hindsight feature.
I was making a joke
its like 24 bucks for 6 quarts of synthetic 5w-30 oil at costco lol
yeah
I only buy high quality oil, usually Pennzoil but I'm thinking about ordering some Liqui-Moly
Used to buy Castrol, but I think only Mobil makes my oil.
I have a can of Dexos2 5W30 here, since both of the cars use the same oil
And the stealership uses the same oil
It's even GM branded xD
gotta give my carbureted distributor ignition engine the best oil I can get
i use synthetic, which ive been told is bad, but fuck it. it lasts longer
It's usually not recommended you change high mileage over to synthetic.
But that's something I've heard years ago. Probably no longer relevant.
apparently you're not supposed to use synthetic in anything over 3 years old
or so I was told
the only disadvantage of synthetic is that it's more expensive
Because seals can maybe shrink.
it burns less with the newer oil.
there's no reason to use conventional oil if you can afford synthetic
When I got the car it had normal oil in it and it burned a lot more
with synthetic its much less
The synthetic probably has some additives that help with that
Never had issues with conventional oil.
yeah but synthetic is objectively better
But now that I don't have a choice... well... on to synthetic I guess.
another reason for me to use synthetic is that the 1MZ-FE has big problems with oil sludge
hence the recommended 2500-3000 oil change intervals
with synthetic thats mitigated
so
5k
ouch
😄
I'm looking at 10k intervals.
synthetic doesn't sludge up like conventional does
so i feel better about using
it
tonight I need to make the wrench in our printer to change my oil
i'm a little bit overdue
see if there is a larger oil filter that fits your car, the right filter for my car is tiny but I know the part number for a filter that's like 3x the size
i can't put a bigger one on
no room?
yes
yeah that sucks
i'm having to make a custom wrench to even get to it
its hidden underneath the exhaust manifold
oh lovely
you can't get to it from the bottom
Just like Honda.
the lexus prescribed manner is to take off the radiator and front bumper stuff to replace the filter
we're making a wrench to just reach under the manifold to get to it
nah its stupid as hell
there's so much room in my car but the oil filter is in a kind of awkward spot, there's a crossmember right near it
3d printing ftw
I had to take the tire off my car.
But it worked.
I have no clue how to replace the filter in my Corolla tho.
They went ham on the aero shielding.
yeah Toyota tends to do things like that
Made for great fuel economy.
worked at a body shop for a few months through school and I didn't like working on Toyotas because there was so much plastic that was basically a puzzle
Lol aero was not a priority on my rx
I mean aero didnt' become a thing till this generation.
my dad's 2002 Jetta has some aero stuff underneath
VW has always been ahead on a lot of technologies
undertrays since the late 90s, engine stop/start since the mid 80s, etc
I'm just happy Toyota went with dual injection for the new 'rolla.
That made my purchase decision easier.
I lowkey wonder if the GS F is a decent sedan
Should be hella reliable considering its an big, low stressed, NA V8 and no awd funny buisness
engine stop/start since the mid 80s
Did they 👀 Cool, didn't know that
MK2 Polo Formel E
...
supercharged 2 cylinder diesel with engine stop/start
So skyactiv-X when...?
skyactiv X is the one with SPCCI isn't it?
musk at least eventually delivers
touche
even if its 3 years late
skyactiv-x has been coming for like 3 years
Ok that's a cool piece of trivia, the Formel E. Didn;t know that
SkyActive-X can be ordered as we speak iirc?
yeah then the MK3 Golf Ecomatic was a 1.9 diesel with no turbo, engine stop/start, and a clutchless manual
don't think so
i thought just recently it was in some special mazda 3
and cost like a million dollars
I think the new Skyactiv-X is available in only a few markets.
my mom used to drive a 1991 Golf with a 1.6D, it wasn't fast but it was more reliable than anything else and used like 0 fuel
It's more about the torque though, and old cars like the Golf tend to be light
We can order the SkyActive-X
just like tesla priced the model 3 out of relevance... is it something with the number 3? lol
I mean the Model 3 is selling.
"35k"
I think Tesla is either matching or outselling Mazda.
They've been selling since before they were in production
That was annoying.
they're still fucking with the prices
I don't count special order direct from Tesla.
the Model 3 trunk doesn't have a raintray lol
ppl who bought the performance when it was new are pissed as hell
paying almost 80k, now its mid 50s
I'm honestly kinda bored with Tesla
^ metoo
I loved the Model S back when it was first revealed (about 10 years ago)
Even had one as my wallpaper
To think.
Now they seem quite boring to me
The Model S is still better than the Taycan.
Imo the front is decent, headlights are stunning, the ass end of the Model S is perfect
It's really good looking but getting a bit old now
booooo
during earnings he said theyre not important to the company
To save money of course
Yeah, but they're flagship products.
yte
That being said the Model X wasn't exactly a raging success.
That thing is ugly
its not too bad
It's a blown up Model S
and only sell the 3 and hte Y?
Yeah.
i dont think thats a very good plan
There'll be a new roadster soon.
they need to refresh the S/X
And the pickup truck.
But isn't the Model S getting Plaid and that stuff?
pickup truck will be a total failure
That's a 4 car line up.
I know the current Plaid stuff that we have seen is very likely the test platform for the Roadster.
Hopefully people realise the electric F150 is actually good and buy them
the new explorer is absolutely terrible lol
i listened into part of their earnings call, warranty costs tripled with their new products
I bet if I walk outside I'll see 6 F150s in under 30 seconds
they're gonna make the electric F150 good so it sells well
Ford isn't exactly an expert on electric cars
I'm sure they're planning to make the electric F150 have a long range, high towing capacity, and be affordable
Ford only puts development and effort into the F150
the more of them they sell the more money they make vs. the regular F150
We'll see if Ford hits affordable.
Yes pls, bring me a EV pickup truck: due to no CO2 emissions they will be cheap AF
Cause current prices of pick up trucks pushes "affordable"
your govt will find a way to make it expensive mk
Actually no
as far as trucks go I mean, it's not gonna be a $100k f150
Loopholes, loopholes everywhere
I'd guess probably $50k CAD for an electric F150, base price is around $33k CAD
at that price it would sell really well
cheap to run, lots of torque, and it's still an F150
Yeah keep dreaming
Price here will (for now) be US price + VAT + import tax, so basically US price + 33%
It'll have torque...
I can't see it being cheap.
How will they fit a battery pack into a ladder frame?
It will need lots of batteries to be somewhat usable in the US
charging network 🤔
It is a very inefficient vehicle
It's supposed to be an electric F150.
It's easy to fit batteries in an F150, they're not small
They're not small, but they weigh a lot.
All that space where the fuel tank(s) would be
And people will want to tow with an F150.
No engine so there's room there
1 small drawback to make it liable as a "car" here: it needs to be < 3500kg xD
A Tesla battery pack is radically bigger than a fuel tank.
Space isn't the issue, efficiency is
I think weight will become an issue with pick up trucks.
Actually only like a quarter of F150 owners actually tow lol
And the quarter that do need to be taken into account.
You design a truck for the small use case, not the lowest common denominator.
If an eF-150 can't tow a full load 500 miles... will anyone want it?
Where will they charge?
I'm allowed to drive cars that are >3,500 kg's 😄
How fast will it charge?
Cars over 3500kg here are registered as commercial vehicles and/or semi trucks xD
The F150 is marketed as a work horse. Regardless of how it is used.
It will be expected to perform.
Yeah, but gas is still an option for people who want to tow. Electric for the guy that lives in the city and brings home his brand new barbecue in it, gas for the person that tows a car regularly
What happens with the hauling capacity if you add all of those battery cells to a truck?
Then the truck will fail.
Cause why get an eF150 when I can get a Tesla truck or Rivan?
I did three 17 tonne hauls today.
Because the F150 won't be $90k.
We don't know that yet.
Total weight of 28,000 kg for each with the truck.
Ford has been mum on the pricing... or how it will even work.
Ford has been mum on anything new.
I live in the part of the world that buys the most F150s
Texas?
So you should know better then
Pretty sure US proper buys more F150s.
Per capita we have the most
That changes a lot with that caveat.
The F series has been the best selling truck here for well over 50 years
I think the F150 is the number 2 best selling vehicle in general here
Depends what metric you use.
#1 selling vehicle in Canada in 2018
145,000
To put that in perspective, that's almost 100k more than the Corolla
There's a 100k suckers born each year.
People here like F series trucks, an eF150 would sell no matter what
Ok a 2019 Raptor as passenger vehicle is €213k in 🇳🇱 Pogey
oof
Yeehaw 🤠
You aren't missing much.
I kinda like them xD
I like the Raptor too, they can do pretty much anything
As a commercial vehicle, they are "only" €100k tho xD
I'd consider buying a Raptor if I had the money, but not as a daily driver
If something is overprice in the US... it's even more overpriced here
Fact
Ford Mustang GT? Ah yes, that's €120k please
It's a 10 year old platform being sold as new hot stuff in the US.
Base Raptor here is $77k CAD
Problem is you can get a better deal on a full size truck.
And the bigger truck will likely be more fuel efficient.
Don't even get started i live in denmark where taxes on the car cost more than the car
Yeah but can a stock full size truck carve dunes? Didn't think so
And a full sized truck will haul more, looks nicer, and use less fuel than the Ranger.
Iirc Denmark Car taxes are roughly the same as Dutch car taxes?
Portugal is also expensive af, and 1 Scandinavian country (idk which one exactly)
Close enough, just some small changes
It's a new generation.
Basically the same architecture though
@stoic ledge What is dutch car taxes? In Denmark its a little over 150 percent added to the cars price
oof that's a lot
It's based on the cars emission, so it varies
We pay sales tax + licencing and it's like 13% of the car's cost plus ~$150
I'll give you a nice example
Ok so a Danish Astra 1.0T is 179.990 DKK, which is €24.089,41. Dutch Astra 1.0T is €24.299, so it's rougly the same
Nissan 370Z
Germany: €35.000
Netherlands: €110.000
@stoic ledge yeah ok still crazy high in Denmark.
Yeah it's high, but rougly the same as here xD
it's really annoying tho.
It sure is
Yes it is (:
All taxes on cars are annoying
Here if a car is over 20 years old you need a valuation appraisal to transfer it, most appraisers value it low for you so you don't pay as much tax.
All taxes are annoying but they're necessary
Taxing a car every time it's transferred is unnecessary
True
Makes sense on new cars, but why should I pay tax on a car that's been transferred 15 times and taxed every time?
Here you only pax taxes on a car the first time it's registered (and then road tax every month)
@fair bronze Why are car taxes that cost more than the car necessary?
Taxes in general are important, stupid taxes are stupid
Mhm
Although stupidity should be taxed
I like the way the government here implemented a carbon tax
You pay whenever you buy fuel, but get a set tax return based on the size of your household
So the people that daily drive 1 ton trucks wind up losing money, but the people that don't drive often get more money back than they were taxed
really?
here if you sell a car private party you write in whatever tf you want
no appraiser necessary
I live in Canada, so it's possible
yeah ok
Saw this today.
Just get a president and a house that acknowledges climate change
what, naaaaaahhhhhhh
Live in the now, screw the immediate future!
not because america is that bad but i've been there a few times and some people (not all) Could use a reality cheack
@civic spoke whats about that?
That's a low taxi
When I park my Ford F-teenthousand I leave a brick on the accelerator because hell yeah 'merica.
oh it's lowered
Yes, we get it.
stop ffs
It's a slammed Merc.
Let me guess, your discord broke
WTF. I'm not trying to post it several times
Likely the case.
Yes okay
Discord 🅱️roke
nice
But that color was just terrible
Probably dirty
Like a cream white
With cool wheels it'd be a lot better
They use E classes as taxis here as well.
Some bronze powder coated Rotiforms would make it cool
Yeah but that is the mandated Taxi color in germany
Like a yellow cab in NYC
Oh, it was an import
Ah there it is
There's nothing like that here, you have a taxi company and paint your cars green? Good for you
There are more countries that have that
I looked it up. And it was imported back in 2017
discord broke again
Oof and there it is again
Dutch taxis have.... blue licence plates xD
We have Ford CV taxis, Dodge Grand Caravan taxis, Toyota Corolla taxis, and some cheap companies have Chevy Astro van taxis and 90s Chevy Impala taxis
Diplomatics have yellow plate just like us regular folks , but starting with "CD"
Don't buy used taxis here
Most of them are E-classes and Teslas now
The other day I saw a Chevy Impala taxi with so much body roll he spun a tire cornering normally
Or Prius, Vito/V-class, sometimes even a SsangYong Rodius xD
Or a Skoda Superb, passat... Really everything xD
Skoda makes some neat looking VWs
Yeah, but cheaper in more ways than one
With the same technology
I should import an Audi 50, they're cool and there's a grand total of 2 in North America
It's just a fancy MK1 Polo
Yeah I know xD
Oof nice
I can't really find the car in our database, probably under some weird name
Not even onder Typ 86
If my database skills are right, we only have 7 of them left on the road
It's no production car
not yet*
When it hits production I'll acknowledge it.
Then again I imagine a stock Model S could keep up.
But a Model S can now beat a Taycan. Can't deny that.
Hopefully this prototype is a test mule for a new platform.
I doubt they're going to invest billions in a new platform
When the used car your dad is about to get is classified as a lemon because the tire pressure monitor had to be fixed twice
i'm hoping for it, hard to get it financed, 2011 BMW X5 M

A bigger oof than Tunnelbear.
