winter oasis

@winter oasis a bit is an understatement.

Diamond is a pretty hard material, right?
Well, their cocks are 10 times harder then diamond when they see an emote.

#

keksplosion emote

civic spoke
#

Isn't it bots that give out most of those mutes?

tropic silo
#

Not being muted/kicked from using a single emote, that's the work of a mod.

civic spoke
tropic silo
#

They use a bot to remain hidden

#

for example: !mute @Lewd Lil' Foxy#0001 would mute me and delete that message

civic spoke
#

Kinda sucks. I at least like knowing more of a reason why I was muted.

fathom socket
#

Could probably add a bot that sends you a message within that same command, but after the command, write the reason for the mute or kick and that same part could be messages to you

#

Or maybe a warm and it would warm you on what you've done wrong or something

Still... Tokyo dealt with this storm far better than New York did.

I miss Japan sometimes.

Japan is still here

tropic silo

Oof

dense shard

I'm not in Japan though.

fair bronze
#

At least you should be safe then

dense shard
#

That's fairly relative.

#

American drivers really really suck.

fair bronze
#

On a more serious note, I'd love to go to Japan one day

#

So many nice cars

heady ridge
#

lol dash cam owners australia now theres some scary driving

dense shard
#

If you like kei cars... sure?

fair bronze
#

Japan isn't just kei cars

dense shard
#

One thing you'll find is Japan loves minivans.

#

It's dramatically less interesting than many westerns think it is.

#

It isn't all Skylines and Supras.

fair bronze
#

I know, that's not all I'm interested in, trust me

dense shard
#

The second you leave the big cities... which you should. It's a lot of kei cars.

fair bronze
dense shard
#

I've seen a few of those.

#

Cute cars.

fair bronze
#

I can see Skylines and Supras where I'm at too so no need to travel for them

dense shard
#

I almost wish I had gotten a kei van.

#

That would have been amusing.

#

But as in the US... utility vehicles maintain their value far better than I expected.

#

Trucks especially.

#

Still love the one guy who owned a Hummer H1 in my area.

#

I'm assuming he was a very happy lad.

heady ridge

here the first part of one i found

That's insane for that price lol

heady ridge
#

thats australian dollars

fair bronze
#

Still

#

I mean, they can handle it if they're maintained well enough

#

Well maybe the prices aren't insane

heady ridge
#

the australian 4wd scene is huge and i know of a fair few people that take their 4wd through the simpson

fair bronze
#

Plenty of terrain to go off-roading

heady ridge
#

max for a zook sierra is about 5 grand

fair bronze
#

I love the old Samurai

#

Awesome little cars

heady ridge
fair bronze
#

They can handle so much indeed

#

And they're simple to repair and maintain

heady ridge
#

yep and its why i want one and i say it can handle 4wd action because ive seen their 4wds personaly in town before needing alot of work

#

2 twisted shafts, mutiple steering breakages, busted out uni joints i think the only thing they havent broken is a engine yet

fair bronze
#

Have you seen the Top Gear episode with the Suzuki?

#

They went through the rainforest with three off-roaders and the Suzuki was so great

#

Even though it was broken

heady ridge
#

get them old enough and they serve a lifetime

fair bronze
#

Just keep an eye on the rusty bits

#

All fine

heady ridge

being me ill pump lanolin through everything

since it will mostly be a beach car

fair bronze

I would certainly give them a good coating

heady ridge

mm i know of a 4wd here that just went to the national motor museum and all it got was a hit of lanolin

I suddenly had the muted role, no explanation tho from a bot so it was assignment to me by hand stuck_out_tongue

All I ever got was a warning for saying the other word for engine brake or gearbox brake if that makes sense

Ah that specialist... He's expensive tho xD

fair bronze

Sometimes it takes months for something to arrive

#

He ain't cheap but they are very nice examples

stoic ledge
#

Depends on the shipment method wink

fair bronze
#

Hehe

#

The man at the dealership even showed us some special inventory

#

Lots of parts and special cars in the back

#

Interesting considering it's basically a dead brand

stoic ledge
#

And yeah ofc, but 7k for a 2006 9-3 with 220k km and a base 1.8 (non-turbo) is... Quite expensive

fair bronze
#

¯_(ツ)_/¯

I agree

SAAB 9-3 Sport Estate 1.8i Linear, 2008, 160k km: €15k joy

fair bronze

Yeah I also wonder how he came to those prices tbh

#

Though the fact he's asking that for it doesn't mean he will actually get that much

stoic ledge
#

Tru

#

I quite like Saabs, but the prices are getting ridiculous

fair bronze
#

True that

#

Honestly I wouldn't spend 20k on a car like that which is at least 10 years old

stoic ledge
#

My uncle had a 2006 9-3 Sport Estate 2.0t as a company car, it was nice

A red one

I like a red one

@fair bronze found it: 48TVLF, a 2007 apparently. Now exported, and someone (I assume the second owner) put an LPG system in it

fair bronze

@stoic ledge Nice, the fact that someone exported it must've meant it was still in nice condition I reckon

#

Unless it got exported to Poland

tight cypress
#

mmm

sooo

this pioneer sub is an perfect budget option

#

better than an 200€ ground zero 300w kit

stoic ledge
#

shrug I have no idea xD He drives roughly 40k km/year so it already had 150-160k km on it when he sold it (/ handed it back in), then it received a LPG system installed by a private owner. He probably drove it a lot too, otherwise you won't install a LPG system xD

tight cypress

my mom bought his mondeo

now it has 60000km on it

tight cypress

hmm noice bass

He only had 1 other color, a blue Passat, but that was because he wrecked his red Passat xD So he had to take the car the leasing firm had atm

red cars usually look good

especially on cars like mk4 s0pra

Ok what is Toyota thinking... after the fun, limited edition Yaris GRMN (Gazoo Racing Masters of the Nurburgring), they give us a lightened version of the Toyota Yaris: the GR Sport. Sound like fun: updated chassis, Sachs suspension, anti-roll bar, lowered suspension... and then they use a 1.5 Hybrid with a CVT

#

Why Toyota, why?

wheat hatch
#

.kek.

tropic silo
#

Lol wtf

indigo coral
#

mine just decides that it's not gonna go sometimes

tropic silo
#

Better then a CVT 😄

stoic ledge
#

CVT be like jeej 6000rpm all the time

indigo coral
#

I'd bet a CVT would be better

stoic ledge
#

A CVT is actually better: always max power on demand (= most efficient), but also the lowest amount of rpm possible when driving at constant speeds. It's the best of both worlds, but it is in no way fun are engaging to drive.

Toyota has been improving their CVT tho, simulating actual gears when accelerating. Works quite well, most people won't even notice it. It shifts like a regular auto when accelerating, but can keep the gear ratio as low as possible on constant speeds (:

indigo coral
#

Is a 4 speed fun/engaging to drive? Nope .

chrome grail
#

The other issue with CVTs is torque capacity isn't much higher than what the engine currently produces.

dense shard
#

Which isn't really an issue as very few people actually modify their cars.

#

That being said I'm not sure what the point is of adding "gears" to a CVT is.

#

You're covering up the best feature of the CVT. Let the sucker rubberband and push me into the most efficient bands!

#

On one hand I get it... CVTs don't feel as great. But on the other hand... It's a CVT.

stoic ledge
#

Well I like the sportyness from the gears while accelerating, combined with the most efficient ratios while normal driving

rotund matrix
#

if you "simulate gears" you defeat the point of a CVT

#

I've got a CVT and sure it's nothing amazing to drive but hey it's not bad at all, and it really doesn't need to simulate gears

#

it's kinda funny to floor it on an on-ramp and just sit at high RPMs the whole time as you gain speed rather than shifting kek

dense shard
#

It's a weird feeling, but I don't hate it.

#

My only issue is with the long term durability of CVTs.

rotund matrix
#

yeah, and if your CVT gets fucked you essentially just have to buy a new transmission

#

or get a used CVT

#

my Rogue is getting close to 150k miles, and the CVT is holding on fine from what i can tell (thankfully)

dense shard
#

That's good.

#

I'm gonna guess not wailing on it and following service schedules helps.

rotund matrix
#

ye, fluid changes and don't treat it like shit

#

ofc I've only had it for a bit under a year now

#

had 142k when i got it...so not sure on the history

#

but no issues whilst I've had it

dense shard
#

If it works it works.

carmine summit
#

our truck feels like it has a CVT until it shifts into high gear

#

I think the converter is getting weak, if you floor it to accelerate it just sits at like 2200 rpm through every gear until it shifts into overdrive.

stoic ledge
#

if you "simulate gears" you defeat the point of a CVT

True, but it's only a software limitation. If you drive it normal or in D more, it will shift bands like you're used to. Only in sport mode it simulates gears when accelerating stuck_out_tongue

I like the concept of a CVT, but the whining is annoying stuck_out_tongue

#

Anyway: manual ftw wink

indigo coral

tbh I'd trade

indigo coral

stoic ledge
#

Probably

indigo coral

(plus ten year warranty yes)

unreal terrace
#

I'd say probably not, but idk I haven't dealt with that new of a car

stoic ledge

We get 8 from Kia

And I think 8 from Hyundai also

indigo coral
#

10 🙂 6 for limited, 10 for powertrain

#

afaik

stoic ledge
#

7 Kia, 5 Hyundai, 3 Toybota, all other 2

unreal terrace
#

If I ever got to buy a brand new car, I'd probably go for a scooby or actually a fiat

#

Or maybe a Suzuki or honda

stoic ledge
#

Depends on how rich I am xD

#

But otherwise I'd buy used, even just 1 year old kr something

#

You save so much money

unreal terrace
#

Yeah

#

And let's face it, a 5er that done 30.000km isn't "used"

stoic ledge
#

Nope, but it's half the price of a new one

#

stuck_out_tongue

#

Ok first 5er I found: 520d, 2018, 21k km. New price: €66.669. For sale now: €37.809

#

That's a massive saving

unreal terrace
#

Precisely :p

#

And they don't depreciate much after that either so, win win I'd say

stoic ledge
#

Exactly

#

That's why I wouldn't buy new, except is it's a company car ofc (or I'm rich af xD)

fair bronze
#

Used ftw

#

New is the nicest of course but it really costs

dense shard
#

Not that much more right now.

#

Used car prices in the US have gotten stupid expensive.

indigo coral
#

for some cars

dense shard
#

For most cars you'd want to buy.

#

So any Toyota, Honda, or even Nissan.

#

If you are buying... checking the new market isn't a bad idea right now.

indigo coral
#

nissan only makes shit

dense shard
#

I disagree.

#

My family's Rogue is quite nice.

#

Very very comfortable.

indigo coral
#

We had a rogue as a rental car

#

Slow as all hell and the interior was shit

#

All cheap, hard plastic

dense shard
#

It isn't all hard plastic though.

#

I've poked all the interiors on the base Rogue.

#

And it's fast enough tbh.

indigo coral
#

it's hellishly slow wym

dense shard
#

You clearly haven't driven hellishly slow.

indigo coral
#

My 20y/o Rx is significantly quicker

#

I would never purchase a nissan

dense shard
#

Ah yes... your compact crossover with a V6 is faster than a large I4 Nissan.

indigo coral
#

a shitty, old v6

#

lol

#

its 20 years old versus a brand new car

dense shard
#

I wouldn't call the Rogue painfully slow.

#

It's not fast sure, but it moves with enough verve.

#

Slow is a 99 Saturn SL1.

#

An 04 Daihatsu Mira.

#

Actually hit 33 mpg on the highway with the Rogue.

#

That's pretty damn good for something that shape and size.

#

It's a crossover for the masses, and at least it doesn't have any gas in oil issues like Honda's 1.5T does.

heady ridge
#

slow is a ford laser

#

foot to the floor it was still nearly a minute to hit 60km/h

dense shard
#

It's been 2 months since I bought my car.

#

Still love her.

civic girder
#

that reminds me of the Nike highlighter green TRD Corolla hatchback with Scion badges that someone in my town has

dense shard
#

My car is blue, green, black, but mostly green.

civic girder
#

I am approaching 2 months on my new car, love it

#

been some.......work

#

but wonderful regardless

dense shard
#

I'm hoping this week will be me driving to Atlanta and back without the AC running.

#

So I might hit 40mpg.

#

Which would be epic.

civic girder
#

depending on the car, I can get significantly more or significantly less than 40mpg

dense shard
#

I'm sure I could hit 40 easily enough.

#

But my area of the US is a bit hilly.

civic girder
#

oof

#

I haven't figured out the secret to mid 20s mpg in the RX-7 yet
but I breathe 50mpg in the Prius

#

I probably just need to read the manual again and nail down the economical shift points

#

all I know is 1st to 2nd at 14-15mph and 2nd to 3rd at 24-25mph

dense shard
#

I've found it doesn't matter for me.

#

3-4k shifts minimum to make it up the hills.

civic girder
#

well the Corolla is an auto right

dense shard
#

no, I have a manual.

civic girder
#

oh nice

dense shard
#

Otherwise I could probably make over 40 easy.

civic girder
#

yea, probably

#

hills leach speed, and therefore makes your engine have to drincc more

dense shard
#

I've also been super lazy.

#

And letting my cruise control take the lead.

civic girder
#

hypermiling is fun

#

I still use cruise control on the highway, hover around 50mpg around 70mph

dense shard
#

I paid 23.5k for my car, and I plan to use all the features available to me.

civic girder
#

but I avoid cruise like the plague when in town or driving short distances

#

accelerate up to speed limit quickly (but not aggressively) and maintain speed (relative to traffic and weather)

#

coast whenever possible, even using neutral (despite being a CVT)

#

and maintaining distance between the car ahead so I can coast rather than brake if they are turning

dense shard
#

That is the one true annoyance I've found in my car.

#

She'll hit the brakes when someone is pulling off the highway.

#

Modern cars are smart, but they can still be fooled.

civic girder
#

this is why I dislike lane assist bs

#

how to ruin fuel economy 101

dense shard
#

It's not lane assist.

#

It's the radar cruise control.

civic girder
#

you know what I mean

dense shard
#

And people being shit at driving.

civic girder
#

that's universal

dense shard
#

I have no clue why people are so invested in slowing down to 35 BEFORE slipping into the exit lane.

#

Like... y'all got the exit lane to do the slowing down there.

civic girder
#

isn't radar cruise often bundled with lane assist tho?

dense shard
#

It is with my car.

civic girder
#

yea

dense shard
#

And I quite like the lane keep assist.

civic girder
#

lazy

dense shard
#

Not lazy.

#

It's peace of mind and added security.

civic girder
#

I'd freak the fuck out when my car starts changing direction on its oown

dense shard
#

And it beats hitting the rumble strip.

#

I have the steering assist off.

#

It just beeps.

civic girder
#

oh god

dense shard
#

Though the active steering is very subtle.

civic girder
#

even worse

dense shard
#

It's a nice quiet beeping.

civic girder
#

I know the pain of beeps from my Prius reverse gear

dense shard
#

No beeping for me in reverse.

civic girder
#

lets beep INSIDE the car

dense shard
#

I know a dozen people who would have benefitted from that.

civic girder
#

probably

#

for me, I'm smart enough that it's my one true complaint with the car

dense shard
#

I'm old enough to know I'm not infallible.

civic girder
#

But I've also had the car long enough that I've chalked it up to being a quirk of the car

dense shard
#

And frankly... I've figured out a few things.

#

Blind spot monitoring should be mandatory.

#

Back up cameras are evil.

#

And there is no such thing as an overactive safety system.

#

That last one took me over a month to figure out.

civic girder
#

I never use my backup cam
and most people need blind spot, but I was a paranoid teenager and learned to live without it

dense shard
#

Same.

#

But I like the added benefit to me turning my head and having my mirrors set correctly.

civic girder
#

I often check two or three times before committing to a lane change

dense shard
#

Triple protection is better than double.

#

That being said my BSM is way more proactive on letting me change lanes.

#

I wish I could set the distance a bit longer on the highway. lol

civic girder
#

I learned the multiple checks after having nearly been run off the road by assholes refusing to change lanes on empty SIX lane highways while I'm merging
the scariest was an 18 wheeler while I was in the RX-7

#

commuting the same highway everyday does not mean you can stay out of an accident by near blind merging

dense shard
#

As for over active safety.

#

I figured out the system by driving more aggressively than usual.

#

If the system beeps at you for pulling up too fast to someone... the system isn't the issue. YOU are.

civic girder
#

My mom's van doesn't have very advanced systems
the backup camera has lines to show if your wheels are turned (and how sharply); which would make me use my backup camera more if I had that
the dash has a little "radar" thing when in reverse that roughly tells you how close you are to something behind you (and it beeps aggressively the closer you get to something, no beeps if you're not near anything)

the side mirrors don't have the blindspot mirrors (thank god, I think they look ugly as fuck and I can never see anything in them anyways), but they have these little orange triangles that light up when something is in your blindspot; and it beeps aggressively at you if your signal is on and something is in your blindspot

#

imo, it's the perfect system for me

#

just too bad my Prius doesn't have any of it because it's a 2009

dense shard
#

oh yeah, I do wonder about people who don't use turn signals in new cars.

#

My car bugs me each time I don't signal any kind of lane change.

civic girder
#

I'm not sure for other cars

dense shard
#

Lane departure in full effect.

#

All modern cars do it that have it.

#

And I sincerely doubt the average driver is smart enough to turn those things off.

civic girder
#

how the fuck do people still not use turn signals then

dense shard
#

Unless they do because it beeps at them when they just want to text.

#

That's my question.

#

HOW?!

#

Only time I don't use it is this one weird stretch of road where a lane merges into another, but due to legalities the other lane doesn't have any cars in it ever.

#

Beeps at me regardless. lol

civic girder
#

I use my turn signals for 98% of maneuvers, even if I know 100% with absolute confidence that I am the only car in the immediate area

dense shard
#

Pretty much.

civic girder
#

parking lot? turn signal

dense shard
#

Not gonna lie. If I'm tired enough I think about trying to signal I'm going straight.

civic girder
#

lol

#

about the only places I don't use turn signals are turning onto my driveway (when no cars are around), and when a lane is added to the road and I want to be in that lane (even then I sometimes use my signal)

dense shard
#

(don't press forward, you're only gonna blind the person going in the other direction)

#

oh, actually automatic highbeams are great.

#

They're not perfect, but they're great.

civic girder
#

my dumb ass forgets the high beams exist most of the time

#

and when I remember, I then proceed to forget they're turned on

dense shard
#

I'm brutally aware of highbeams.

#

My Corolla's headlights aren't the most excellent ever made.

civic girder
#

normally I can catch myself if it's in the morning, but at night I usually forget until the approaching car flashes me or I'm right up on them

dense shard
#

Then again they're pretty damn great.

civic girder
#

neither of my cars have great headlights

dense shard
#

But highbeams are just superb.

#

Still beats my Suzuki.

#

That car was bad with high beams and low beams.

civic girder
#

the Prius is old enough that they're beginning to fog up, and the brights are basically useless
the RX-7 has sealed beams, so the brights are pretty useless as well

dense shard
#

Hopefully I'll never have to replace my headlights.

civic girder
#

low beams are pretty good for most situations in them, which is normally why I forget that brights exist

dense shard
#

LED ftw

civic girder
#

I had to replace my Prius headlights last fall

#

e x t r e m e p a i n

#

the best way to replace the bulbs is to remove the headlight assembly
which you can only do if you take off the fenders and front bumper

#

otherwise you're doing it blind in a cramped space

dense shard
#

I let the auto shop change out the headlights in my Suzuki.

the RX-7 I anticipate will be easier to do, since they're sealed beams

it took me 3 hours to do both sides

DRLs are certain parts of the light assemblies that glow during the day, automatically
