Ah ok
Had I bought it new, yes I'd go individual
Otherwise that 5k option would be less expensive than a repaint
Exactly
Nearly as expensive as the wrap
Just rwd
Nice
I just found out you could also get is as xDrive by checking the US configurator, didn't know that
Ah it's only RWD here, that explains
I don't know, xDrive is probably pretty cool but I live in San Diego so it's not really a big deal for me
Real BMWs are RWD wink
Hehehe, yes
Oof 230i base MSRP: $41k
Oof 218i base MSRP: โฌ44k
That's why I literally never see them upsidedown_smile
ABS is good ^^
My light was green as I was approaching so I just kept going, some dipshit decided to try and run the light right in front of me
so yeah ABS is good
I hate it when people run lights
I want a dash cam, front and rear, but on a convertible it's not that simple of an install
Yeah rear dashcam is hard on a convertible
Especially because I want them to be a seamless (clean looking) install
I only have front tho
Motion detection
Mine only records if the car is running, not when parked
So if somebody hits me while being parked... it's not recorded
I want the parking feature
Yeah, but that requires a constant power from the battery.. park it for a few days and it's dead feelsbadman
Also I didn't feel like messing with the wiring
My current dashcam (Xiaomi Yi) just feeds itself from the 12V-socket/USB-port, which turns on when I start the car
Get one falcon stuck_out_tongue
ok well the one at costco was bloody expensive then
1296p? wtf?
im much less worried about parking lot shit
more so my car getting totalled by some stupid fuckwit
The state blanket banned "modifications" on cars
but its never enforced
a dash cam counts as a modification
The one's that I'm looking at are crazy expensive.
How is a dashcam a mod lol. Is a phone mount, Bluetooth -> FM transmitter also a mod then? xD
OOF yikes
^^^^ there are more expensive cars, with even better quality, 2CH possibilities, larger storage, capacitors instead of batteries, GPS etc, but mine is fine for what I use it
^^ if it's not enforced: get one stuck_out_tongue
Performance car mods here have to be CARB approved before you can buy them
CARB = California Air Resources Board
Didn't Trump ban those rules a few days ago?
no
Ah
Dutch Media made us believe it was actually an official law or something
Nice
I do know that in Belgium, many mods are illegal unless the parts are checked by a certain company and installed by a certified (read: expensive) garage
So many people install mods, but then swap them out for the originals for the annual check, and when passed they swap the parts out again
That's kind of what happens here in California, when it's time to get the smog certification
Mine is 100% stock, so I don't have to worry wink
Once I get a Stinger, I'll end up putting an exhaust on it once the warranty expires
Mines also 100% stock :)
but I can't put an exhaust on it during the first few years cause I really don't want to void the warranty
10 yeras
xD
Just yolo it puggers emote
Europa "only" gets a 7 year warranty on Kia's feelsbadman
the Stinger has a 10 year powertrain warranty, which I'm not gonna get rid of by putting an exhaust on it
nor will I forefit the warranty by moving the badges around on the trunk.
glare Does that really void the warranty?
not sure. but I'm not gonna risk it
I want the Stinger badge on the middle where the Kia one is
but I'm not gonna throw away the warranty over that lol
once it expires I'll probably put a typeS exhaust on it
Maybe in a couple of years, I can afford the 2.0 Turbo ๐
Over here they're getting cheap fast
3.3 V6 is waaaay to expensive
so I'll be able to afford the GT2 in a couple years
If I was gonna get an orange one, I'd get a GTS
Lol I meant GTS ^^
The orange is very bright though
drift mode >:)
Yeah I know
bleh it has an alcantara steering wheel
D-AWD?
Hmmm
Dong powered AWD?
LAWL
Auto
All Stingers are
It's a damn good auto
Does it do the hella fast nyoom?
nyoom?
Yes
puggers there is 1, yes 1, 3.3 V6 for sale used

NOO emotes!
^^ inb4 exactly
but yeah there's lots and lots of Stingers available
Farewell Falcon
oh well.
I'm just waiting as they depreciate like crazy
so I can get one lightly used
fuck thi sbot
Deleted message?
glare
97K LOL
What kind of message where you trying to send xD
wow
and the bot got angry
noice
bet it bans me soon
probs
97995 is the base price for a Stinger V6 btw
or one of the mods does
Get either white or black imo
and it accents the little line on the side, which I really like that styling touch
That's the Kia website
Im gonna get a Stinger with an anime liverly keksplosion emote
Ok, so of that 98k, 48k is CO2 emissions tax puggers
Bruh
Without tax, it's 41k
Wtf
The NL wants some kind of CO2 regulations on the F1 too. or something
Hmm, I thought I took a picture of a Stinger Saturday
the stinger isn't even that inefficent though
its like 20mpg city 29 highway
shit right now I'm lucky to hit 20 at all
laughs in mini engine
It emits 240g/km CO2 apparently
How can you delete someone elses post?
Hehehe
Pls use spoiler tags next time
While I wouldn't do that to my car, I say to each their own
though I do like a small spoiler and a splitter up front. lemme find a pic.
What's nice to one person won't be to someone else
Clean
JibrilDrool emote
I like clean much better
tasty.
Most of the vehicles I saw Saturday were not what I really like, but I still admire their creativity
How to annoy MK.
Do this
Thank god I have Essen motorshow for my satisfaction.
Oof I've been to the Essen Motorshow once, like 10 years ago
How to annoy MK
this year I missed it actually. but there always nice cars!
are*
editing isnt my thing Kappa
Thet made some bad decisions on that Corsa, but I bet it's fast AF
Hehe, suffer MK
I don't think anything is fast when it's that low on those stretched tires
Terrible
strechted tires and lowered so much it cant even drive over a simple bump?
with anime livery?
MK doesnt like bad Opel Tires?
Eh, at least it doesn't have fake grass glued to it
True
Everyone has their own opinions, and like I always say "Opinions are like buttholes - everybody has one and they usually smell like sh*t"
๐
they usually smell like sh*t"
So you have sniffed people's assholes... interesting
So no Opel tires?
glare
jk, idk if theyre good of bad
Ehm
Opel usually comes with Michelin
Im sorry MK but I think my Oschersleben Pics are gone. there were a few very good looking Tires Kappa
kappa
Semislicks
No I have Hankook Kinergy Eco's on it
I see
i have michelin defender LTX
They defend your car
Hankook Kinergy Eco and Ventus Prime 3 are both excellent tires
Ventus Prime 3 actually beats similar tires for less money (Michelin, Continental etc)
Michelin Pilot Sport 4S
I got my wintertires + rims for free with the car :)
just steel but meh i got it for free
I dont quite get why
Nothing wrong with them
They're just a tiny bit louder from what ive seen/heared
mine work well in snow, rain and on dry ground so meh
I sometimes have problems with getting away at a light when its wet outside
Could either be the open dif, it being fwd or the ASR does some magical stuff and thinks it spins when it just grips
Yeah all the 75hp is tricky
wtf?
you spin your wheels in the wet?
I've never got mine to spin except in like 6 inches of snow
Welp, can't say I feel sorry for the guy:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6WjGsdTD9c&feature=youtu.be
Play stupid games, and win stupid prizes.
And also, dude needs to learn how to drive lol.
First part of the Highway 3 series Watch Fragglarn pass trough traffic like a complete maniac! - Equipped with a BMW M3 F80, it all ends with a crash! Subscr...
Crash is at the end.
(.kek.)
@indigo coral Yea, idk how
i can spin the wheels too, pretty easy, rev up to 2500 and drop the clutch
can't guarantee it's any good to it tho
as someone whose only car knowledge is sim racing, what's yall opinion on BMW's M3 lineup
The fact BMW decided to split their coupes and 4 doors off into odd and even was great.
Till the 6 series gran coupe came out with 4 doors.
As for the M3/4 line up... I guess it's fast?
Style and sound wise it's all downhill from the E46 imo.
is this how a newbie in hardware feels like when he joins a tech chat
maybe?
hecc, i got a long way to go with cars
The early 2000s BMW M3s are my favorite.
Not a big fan on the styling on the generation after that.
I'm happy with my 2-Series
My only M3 experience is the 86 one (i think) from Assetto Corsa aswell as the 2015 model i think?
then again, sim racing, not irl
Oh, I have no experience with sim racing these days.
It's pretty much the dimensions of the e36/46
Actually the E46 should be pretty cheap to buy these days. Still expensive to keep on the road.
'94 215k km M3 for 24 thousand euro, yikes
the subframe cracking is scary
Dunno about Europe.
But the E36 BMWs have bottomed out in price.
Should start rising soon.
question
Hehehe Monte Carlo... My Dad bought one when I was a kid back in the late 70's
no
It's a 3 year old Merc for what seems to be full rpice.
78 Monte Carlo with the Landau top
I'm a fan of the late 80s Monte Carlos.
oh
That or the rally.
I hate to admit this, but I like the AMG GLA 45
That's the small SUV?
375 hp from a 2.0L Turbo Four
yikes
question about that 2.0L business
what does that mean
how much fuel it uses?
during my internship i heard a co worker say he saw a car with 5.0L stamped on the side, his comment was "that thing uses a dinosaur every kilometer"
Engine size - it's the equivalent of 2 litres
what
is 700,000 KM on a car even normal
1997
max i've seen on a car was 500k km
gotta say it again: complete newbie to cars
Matt Farah had a 1, 000,000 mile Lexus
Over 500k is rare.
In miles or kilometers
Cars can do it easily enough, but most people uhhh... many things.
It's becoming a little more common
Take care of your car, and I imagine damn near anything can make it to a million without a new engine/trans.
Hondas here in the US have at least 200,000 miles
huh, so in about a year or so i'm looking into getting my first car
I found a 93 Merc Benz C 220 Elegance for 2 thousand euro, 321k km
Yes, it's preferable
Dunno about the Euro used car market tbh.
I just know in the US the rule of thumb is under 130k, newer, and Japanese.
I hate to say this, but I was stationed in Germany from 91-94 and remember seeing those Mercedes on the Autobahn a lot
I'm so old lol
oh boy. New SavageGeese vid
C5 Vette
Not even a minute, and they've savaged the interior... rightfully so
That being said. Would be a good used car to trackday.
@wheat hatch wtf, that dude is a maniac
^^^^ old Mercedes like that will run forever if maintained, #1 killer is rust on those things
Most cars run forever if maintained.
Question is... how often do they break, and how painful is it to fix.
Those old Mercedes'? Not often
Define old.
Cause anything in the below 30 years is... bad.
40 years and onwards... things will be broken, and will be quite complex to fix.
Idk, the 1993 C220 he linked
That's pushing it tbh.
Shouldn't be too tragic considering it's a fairly base car.
But it's at the age things start to break. Things need to be replaced.
Bushings, seals, non-consumables and the such.
@stoic ledge Yeah, really stupid.
(And stupid is an understatement.)
He really thought he could yeet the car to the right and then to the left at 140 km/h...
In a cramped space like that.
.omegalul.
Bushings, seals, non-consumables and the such.
Well yeah true, but engine and transmission wise those are reliable AF
@wheat hatch that's what happens when you try to yeet a car ๐
.omegalul.
Ah yes. The transmission and engine should be reliable.
Damn well better be.
Mercedes isn't a second tier automaker.
I do worry about their new engines though.
^^ new Mercedes lul Well their diesels are fine
Many are used as taxies here, 1.000.000km in a couple of year is no issue
Ignoring the fact they also bullshit emissions... sure.
But their performance engines.
lul AMG engines
450 horsepower out of 2 liters... ๐ค
Yes
600 out of 4 liters.
Sure the engines are more powerful, but also stressed far more heavily.
Yes, that can only end well
Well yes. You can buy a new car when the old one explodes.
Very beneficial to Mercedes... assuming you go back to them.
My understanding isn't explosions... rather heat.
VW, Mercedes, and to a lesser extent BMW all have hot vee engines meaning the heat is all focused on one part of the engine.
Which can and likely does lead to premature failure of various bits around that area.
That's why we need a good ol' V8 in a hatchback
I'd rather LS swap a Corolla.
I could swap a UZ into a Corolla.
Or better yet.
A UR V8.
Keep Toyota engines in Toyota cars.
Joking aside. If I had to swap my car's engine.
I'd probably call it a day at the Camry 2.5.
200 horsepower will be plenty, and shouldn't ruin the car's balance.
XRS swap?
Because the Dynamic Force 2.0 in my car is already torque lite.
I don't need diet torque of the 1.8.
My car sounds fine at speed.
M20A-FKS isn't a screamer, but it sounds nice.
Well... as nice as a 4 popper can.
That reminds me. I need to go ask my dealer if they can get Android Auto installed on my car.
I don't remember all the specifics, but Toyota went all in for tech on this engine.
The M20A-FKS
Best part is dual injection.
2ZZ is a great swap, but not for the 12th Corolla.
oof
same
Also still trying to get used to my car's engine placement.
Exhaust at the back, intake at the front.
That makes vastly more sense.
All the other cars I had were exhaust out the front.
https://www.thedrive.com/tech/29985/autonomous-alliance-landscape-shifts-as-aptiv-and-hyundai-team-up A new fighter has appeared!
Regarding your message earlier @dense shard there's a 0 percent chance of my trans lasting until 1 mil miles lol.
Many of them fail before 100k. Mine is still kicking but not a chance of 1 million
many people also ignore the trans in servicing
most people think that cars have fluid is the engine oil, radiator, power steering and fuel and just ignore the fact both diff's and transmission have oil
meh, a lot of automakers loved to push "lifetime trans fluid"
ATF is automatic transmission fluid also a diffrent type of oil
its also called gear oil
Basicly its from what they call base oil that they use for everything just diffrent additive packs for the diffrent stuff so when you see engine oil showing it cleans they have added more cleaning agent to the base
I imagine most oil used in cars these days is synthetic.
I know Toyota is all synthetic. Joys of 0w-16 weight oil.
VW DSG w/ dry clutch ๐ฉ
Police is training recruits on the stretch where I have been driving lately.
It's fun to watch then pass with barely any room to breathe.
Nice ๐
Dutch police is also training experienced drivers for the SIVs (Fast Intervention Vehicles), the Audi A6 Avant 3.0 TDIs the Dutch police force got last year.
I quote:
The drivers of the cars must undergo special training, because according to the police the Audis with 272 hp demand special driving skills.
So with the previous SIVs (Volvo V70), policeman could just get in and drive, but the A6's are so demanding they require special training...
Well, imo they should have some kind of training, if they will use the cars at high speeds and risking lives with their doings to stop criminals
Actually, during a demo video/interview, the Audi A6 understeered of the track on video ๐
Lol
Here they are practicing small country roads.
Well ofcourse they get training, but the A6's require special training. They've been on the road for about a year now, yet not all Audi's have been use since they require extra training ๐
Yeah idk where they train here, probably on a track
In today's lesson, we will teach how to properly tailgate as an audi driver
Also, no more use of blinkers, yes we know its not a bmw, but its german, so close enough
Drive like an asshole. Oh wait, Dutch police don't need that training, they're already drive like assholes
Lol
puggers
Well the Dutch police does have quality vehicles...
- Audi A6 which nobody can drive apparently
- Mercedes B-class which glued pedals on the steering wheel, too low to go over speedbumps, officers hitting the center console with their gun, no space for arrested in the back, and leaking roofs
Nice (:
Lol we don't have the b class here
A VW (idk which) or Audi A6
And sometimes a Volvo
Isn't it a beauty
No
VW Touran is the "old" car btw, they are getting replaced by the B-class
Ah makes sense then
Here, they have renault megane's, skoda superbs and skoda suv, undercovers are vw passat, also some high speed chasers vw tuareg and audi a4 limos
Might have missed some
Undercover cars can be anything around here
I've seen Mondeo's, Passats, Insignia's, S3, Golf GTI/R32/R, VW Polo, A4, S/V60, V70, V90, .... literally everything xD
Here they are stupid enough, to pick only 1 car that will be the new undercover one and thry even use the same paint on them.. not hard to spot them
But they have been known for using other cars too
Sometimes their own cars...
Just like in Belgium: all Skoda Octavia VRS in black puggers
I always watch out when I see one of those xD
Same xD
puggers
Both Model S and X
Not around here xD
Yikes
Well, we do have bikes tho
Don't forget
Or horses
So it varies from horse to Tesla Model S glare
LOL cops with special training meanwhile in aus we give them aludis as beat cars
Aludis?
its nearly 9pm
So?
so you expect me to type with perfect spelling
Yes
Yes
i ment audi
I'm a carpenter,not a decrypter
Lol
The only cop cars here are Taurus and Explorer, though they have one Highlander and one Bolt
The B-Class is a nice, comfy car to drive, but a terrible police car
We have Chargers, Taurus Interceptors, and Explorers
we also have a bunch of undercover F150s, works well because like 30% of the population has an F150
'Murica
Canada
Who needs Charger, Taurus etc when you can have a Mercedes mini-van diesel?
Oh yeah there's a super sneaky F150 here too
Well this is stupid
why even bother to make the Supra then? If they're just gonna make the cheaper can better?
Thats a bad business practice
I mean I suppose the Supra was easy to make - just rebadge a BMW
It was co-developed, not just a 1:1 rebadge
GT86 - Subaru BRZ is a 1:1 rebagde
Also the GT86 will probably be cheaper and less powerful
it was 90% a rebadge
They took trans, platform and engine from the z4, supposedly tuned the chassis, detuned the engine, and made it polarizing styling
It's an existing platform, yes, but both Toyota and BMW worked together to built out all of the hard points in the chassis, including the basic structure, wheelbase, track width and suspension design.
Since Toyota wanted to use a 6 cyl TT engine, it was a no brainer to use the existing BMW derived engine. The N55 wasn't up to Toyota's reliability standards, but BMW recently started the development of the B58 engine. Both Toyota and BMW started to work to create a version of that engine.
Transmission was an obvious choice too: the ZF 8HP 8-speed. Arguably the best auto you can currently get. Used by BMW, but also by Audi, Alfa's, Astons, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Rolls Royce etc.
After the main structure was completed (main chassis, engine, trans, suspension) the separated. From that point on, tweaks to the chassis, the interior and exterior design, tuning of suspensions and drivetrain components were done independently from each other.
The result: according the journalists, the Supra is actually the better "BMW".
Ewww, if that's what the 86 looks like
I'd rather spend the full price on an old ae86
that's just an artistic render by someone who doesn't work for Toyota
and the Supra isn't a rebadge of a Z4, Toyota and BMW co-developed the chassis and then each tuned their version independently. And the B58 is the modern 2J, suck it up MK4 fanboys.
Ahhhh, well hopefully it actually looks good.
As long as it is affordable.
A new GT86 for 35 grand isn't gonna cut it.
As for the new Supra.
The inline 6 is apparently built like a tank, and tuners are pretty receptive to it.
Did they discontinue the GT86? Can't find it on the Toyota website here
Ah nvm, it's only discontinued in ๐ณ๐ฑ
โฌ65k ๐ Now I see why it's discontinued
Classic
I feel damn lucky to have only paid 23.5 for my car.
Yikes
how does that even drive
Idk, but I image its painful to ride in.
Only people in the hood really do that, or at least that I know of.
Why
Maybe people like the looks.
people are gonna say why not, and to that I say, but, just why?
Because they think it's nifty.
Just like buying a car with a manual transmission in 2019, or buying water cooled RAM.
It's just nifty.
Just like buying a car with a manual transmission in 2019
laughs in Europe
I mean hell. I can buy a car for under 40k new in the US.
But I hear Honda is quitting diesels in the EU by 2021.
Yup, I read that too today
Kind of amusing to see how fast automakers are abandoning diesel.
So funny to see road taxes be like โฌ1300/year for a 1.2 TDI with 75hp puggers
But yeah the market share for diesels is dropping
Many manufacturers aren't developing new diesels anymore
Because emissions have finally become too strict.
And after dieselgate... they've been too strict for a while now apparently.
And then Audi be like: here, the S6 is only gonna be sold as a diesel in Europe
lul
Good for them I guess? ๐ค
Like that's a bit of a weird move tbh.
Why not sell a 2.0T as the base engine?
It's to reach the CO2 quota iirc, CO2 emissions of diesels is lower than gas
Our base engine in the A6 is a 2.0 TDI btw
Just hybridize it.
A6 45 TFSI is a 2.0 TFSI tho (245hp)
And they are mIlD hYbRiD
Is that why they dumbed down their Quattro system?
Ofcourse
And use VW engines?
That's why they haven't done anything advanced the last 2 decades
Maybe a bit harsh?
I mean... the EA888 is semi new?
Last decade?
Y'know I was actually about to give VW some brownie points, but then they killed their 7 year warranty in the US.
Like c'mon guys. 20 months of extended warranty hasn't changed my mind about VW long term prospects.
7 year warranty lul EU be like 2
And the Dutch warranty is a complete joke
Because VWs manufacturers warranty is quite ok
But Dutch VWs are bought by the importer without warranty, and the importer provides the warranty himself
Cars without warranty are cheaper, and then the importer gives no warranty to the customers
lul
Idea was VW was/is trying to dig itself out of that dieselgate PR hit as well as them having a fair crap rep in the US.
And since the government and the Dutch VW importer are besties... they do nothing about it lul
So you'd think that they'd keep the warranty.... cause lemme tell you.
The general perception of VW is going to only get worse in the next 3 years.
They're killing the Golf, Alltrack, and SportWagen.
They're not prime movers, sure. But they're THE VW cars that people know are VW.
Not in the US.
VW has something like... 2 crossovers.
We have:
- T-Roc
- T-Cross
- Tiguan
- Tiguan Allspace (nobody buys those)
- Touareg
And then the US has the Atlas and the Tiguan Allspace (iirc)
We have the Tiguan and the Atlas. Toureg is dead.
By next generation the Golf is gone from the US.
Only GTI.
And the Passat is a refreshed last gen Passat which wasn't very good in the US.
We got a special version made for big Americans and their big roads.
But even then:
VW / Seat / Skoda
T-Cross == Arona == Kamiq
T-Cross == Ateca == Karoq
Tiguan (Allspace) == Tarracco == Kodiaq
All the same cars ๐
And yeah the US Passat was bad
Still is.
At least the US gets the Arteon.
I am not a fan of these trends.
I mean... I'm in for Japanese cars, so this doesn't affect me too much.
Honda, Toyota, Nissan, and Mazda are all making new small cars.
Well okay... only Toyota seems to be doing it right.
Not really a fan of modern Nissans tbh.... and Honda doesn't really sell appealing cars in Europa tbh. Toyota depends, the Yaris is old, Prius is just ugly. Aygo is shit, Rav4 is good but don't really like the styling, same with the CH-R... only Toyota atm I really like are the Supra and Corolla. Mazda makes really good looking cars tho
Mazda2, Mazda3, Mazda6, CX-5, yeah I like those
Or the CX-9, but we can't get that one
Too bad the new Mazda3 is worse.
They sacrificed too much for the styling imo.
Sedan is fine, but no manual in the US.
Hatchback rear is just wrong
Also dat twist beam suspension.
i dont think ive seen a bad looking mazda
They look great.
But driving them is a horror.
The view out the back is tragic. You MUST use the backup camera.
im just waiting to fix up my dads 92 mx-5
There you go, an ugly Mazda
But the problem is that the blindspots are so bad even the camera doesn't work that great.
puggers
even then the color is still good
That being said. Engine is nice.
Yeah no fan of the Mazda 3 rear styling, both outside and viewing from the inside
Transmission was alright.
but yes, blindspots on my mazda 5 SUUUCKS
Interior styling was excellent if you ignored the crypt asethetic.
Like... the car felt tight inside.
Corolla didn't have that issue.
Nor did the Civic.
Okay... Civic Si was pretty nice overall to drive.
I'm just not sure I trust the engine to last 250k.
We don't get the Si puggers
i just wish that i could drive an electric most of the time
That being said. The Si had some notable turbo lag.
And shifter felt waaaaay notchier than anything else I've driven from Honda.
I really like my GM manual transmission ๐ But smaller GM manuals are completely different from the US ones and developed in Europe/Germany xD
Direct but smooth
I'm sure they're identical.
GM isn't known to develop their own sedans. Not since the 90s rolled around.
Pretty much everything GM sells that isn't a crossover is based on an Opel.
Yeah but my car + transmission hasn't been in a US car
What do you drive?
ah wait, I see it.
oof, a platform based on GM's abortive attempt at buying out Fiat.
Something did come of it. wow
...so your car shares a platform with the MiTo
Yes, Corsa, Punto and MiTo share the same platform
Sounds like you got the better end of the deal. lol
Don't take this the wrong way, but it looks kinda cute.
Assuming I have the right picture at any rate. Looks very very pleasant.
It's actually a pretty good platform imho, I've driven almost all cars in that segment and I prefer the Corsa/Punto/MiTo and the Fiesta
Looks very nice.
Not bad as my first car ๐
Not fast but it has all I need, reliable, safe, comfortable yet fun, "cheap" to run... ๐
:ohno: not the USDM
Don't get me wrong. It was alright.
Better than the Neon or Cavalier.
Even had the 2.0 Zetec.
But... at the end of the day. It was still a 90s Ford.
xD
My family sold it after a few months. Got my dad's Ford Contour afterwards.
puggers I have mine for over 3 years now
I don't really want my parents mini-van
xD
It's faster... but it's a minivan ๐
Contour was the Mondeo iirc, right?
It has been years since I've last seen one, damn
oof
Excellent engine, solid transmission, super chassis.
Electronics? yeah nah
My favorite part is the 'rolla reminds me of the Contour.
Chevy trucks were bad for killing electrical systems
Almost the same power, same space, same feel of the controls.
It's a car you can drive like an idiot, or like a newbie.
Or just drive it.
I know a buddy of mine (his parents) they had the 2nd gen Mondeo, they got rid of the car after 10 years/150k km/90k miles because all the electronics where bad. Literally nothing worked as it was intended xD
Toyota
Not really?
V6s at all xD
that's about it
yeah I agree
But they're too busy exiting the USDM.
MK7.5 R is pretty good
Get an up! GTI puggers
Or a WRX.
Mustang GTs are kinda meh
Too bad we don't get the Up.
the original GTI was 1.8l and had no turbo
It was also a compact car.
No but it had the same weight and hp
And cheap.
roughly
The new GTI is just... expensive.
Then you haven't seen dutch prices xD
why would I buy an Up! GTI when I could buy 2 MK1 Rabbit GTIs for $1000
Because it's new
Because the Up! will run.
idk ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
actually I should probably buy those GTIs, 2 complete cars plus a rebuilt engine plus a head for $1k is a good deal
I'm sensing something off here.
they've been sitting in a barn for 25 years
ah, so they need work.
pugges Golf GTI starts from โฌ48k here puggers
my car was $700
Oof I can get the Golf R specced up to โฌ83k joy
hahahaha
That's only twice the price of the US spec.
Which is no way in hell 20 grand better than my car.
Cars are expensive here... but not that expensive xD
puggers So a Golf R fully loaded is just as expensive as a fully loaded BMW 330i xDrive with literally everything including Individual Interior etc
glare hard choice
Hell it can even get you a 540i xDrive Touring. Not loaded but still not sparsely equipped
yikes
I'll take the BMW.
I'd buy a year old Golf R
Yes
But hey even a freaking Golf starts at โฌ28k (31k USD)
And unlike in the US.. it's a whopping 1.0 TSI with 115hp
But it's also the land to give cars like this no-low emissions tax:

At least the new exploder looks nice.
I hate gas cars. Too damn many things to break.
I wish electric cars were cheap and practical but they won't be for a long time
Mine burns oil and I'm worried it's gonna get worse over the coming years
But I don't have the money or skills for an engine rebuild
I expect my car to be grandfathered in to an all electric world.
"You can no longer buy gas powered cars."
But I'll be there. Sitting smugly in my Corolla.
I'm sure I'll have an electric car by then.
But I have no intention of leaving my love of driving.
Manual
They look so fucking similiar it pisses me off
They do?
Fusion
dunno why, but I can tell em apart just fine.
Then again I can tell apart facelift Hondas.
Very similar styling tho now that you mention it. Somehow never noticed. ๐
Fusion and Focus are quite easy to tell apart imho ๐
From the rear sure.
But looking at pictures they're strikingly similar. I never had an issue, but if I had to describe what sets em apart...
Fusion has a taller grill with more shape, thinner headlights, and just... more angular.
Focus is more... bloppy?
Bwah I can see the difference, different grill and headlight design, lower/wider profile (Fusion)
Spotted a Pontiac Firebird
Yes GebruikersName = Dutch Puggers emote
Also; the kindness of blurring the license plates
Or just dont trust a single soul from here. keksplosion emote
don't have to blur plates here because you can't get personal information from them
Net personal information, but almost all other type of information
I don't really care to blur it

Ah yes. Completely blurry screenshot
Open original
Ahhh
Oof nice
L M A O and he didn't have his insurance or registration with him aka he's probably losing licence
you have to keep that in the car all the time to drive lol
Lol what an idiot
i dirve without an lisence or registration
no idea what do i need to fix to register
Cops can look it up on their computer @civic spoke but it's still a severe offence to not have it with you on paper. Still lose-your-licence territory
Which is stupid
Oop
Delayed message
It's stupid the way they have it setup over here
I meant
At least now you can bring up insurance on your phone.
We don't have to bother with that.
ok so
I'm looking at station wagons to replace my dying Ford Taurus. $3k budget maximum, I need it to be practical but fun and cheap to insure. Must have some modern safety features. Heavily considering Chevy Caprice/Buick Roadmaster wagons, Volvo V70/V70XC/8xx/9xx wagons, Outback/Legacy/Forester wagons, and Focus Zetec Wagons. Located in Chicago-Milwaukee area.
I don't know if the GM twins came with "some modern safety features."
You'd be looking at something made in this millennium.
my taurus doesn't even get ABS
oof
lmao
@dense shard not to mention the GM twins, especially the '94-'96 models, get better mileage than my taurus
my taurus is averaging 15 city
the 5.7 LT1 gets 18
Depends how you drive it.
my transmission makes it hang in 1st
Assuming you find one from there.
the L99 5.7 is just underpowered
but get similar economy from the hydraulic 4L60
in the '91-'93 models
but with a tune they would definitely make a fuck ton of power
because they're just regular ol SBCs
Well if I ever want to buy a Caprice... looks like getting the Wagon towards the end would make life easier.
yeah
Cause that is 100% the LT1.
how the 2020 Audi RS6 Avant could resurrect the American wagon
It can't.
Because America would rather pay 70 grand for an SUV than a wagon.
Mercedes couldn't save the US with their AMG wagons, and Cadillac couldn't keep it with their CTS-V wagon.
I like wagons but I can see the appeal of SUVs cause I drive one ๐
you want a reliable wagon for $3k? early MK4 Jetta TDI wagon. The ALH is stupidly reliable, my dad's 02 TDI has 442,000 KM on it and it still runs like new.
I mean... a crossover isn't a bad idea.
A toyota RAV4 or Honda CR-V are both excellent choices.
crossovers are just less practical wagons, change my mind
You're not gonna get a decent RX for 3k. Only ratty ass ones.
Most of them sell for 5-8k still
Wagons rarely come with AWD or have raised ride heights.
I'd say a modern crossover is more practical.
Why are crossovers less practical than wagons?
More vertical space for storage as well.
B6 Audi Allroad
Aren't those shit?
Still lacked the height.
Continual failures?
the suspension tends to have issues but if you put the regular Avant suspension in it it's pretty good
the raised suspension sucks and you can probably get lift springs for normal suspension
Or I could get a crossover.
with less interior volume and higher fuel consumption than an equivalent wagon
uhhhhh
what?
I'll Grant you higher fuel consumption but how do you figure less interior volume?
A crossover is significantly taller than a wagon
I'll use VW as an example
I'll use Honda as an example.
The CR-V has more interior cargo space than the Accord wagon.
I would use Lexus but they don't make wagons ๐ข
CR-V is also shorter I believe.
new Tiguan has maximum 66.7 cubic feet storage, new Golf Sportwagen has 66.5 cubic feet
Golf sportwagen is longer, no?
And the Sportwagen is being discontinued in the US... if not Europe as well.
The Tiguan is a very small SUV if I recall correctly
we're talking crossovers
Also you haven't proven your point Boost. Tiguan has, pedantically speaking, more cargo volume.
0.2 cubic feet
And I would be willing to bet the useable space is larger on the tiguan
Useable space != Litres of volume
I imagine it's a bit taller.
Okay, fair play there Falcon.
That is an issue with my Corolla.
The space isn't much, nor is it very usable. lol
That's why the box test/Banana box stuff is valuable
Since its actually how much shit goes in there
fuel consumption is still a factor, is it worth 3 l/100km to have the 0.2 cubic feet of the Tiguan?
Depends on your needs
Considering the Tiguan has better ground clearance?
I'd say it absolutely depends on your needs.
Though... what is the MPG difference between the two cars?
VW's AWD model gets low 30s on the highway I believe.
Sportwagen gets 37 highway
I know that my RX has hella space particularly with the seat folded down
but mines old so ๐คท
Say I live in Maine.
I'd take that sacrifice to have more ground clearance, AWD, and more useable space
Yeah
let me put it this way: unless you're driving offroad you don't need ground clearance and AWD
It's nice to have
It is very nice to have.
Particularly around here where it snows/rains like shit all the time
Also that 1.4 turbo isn't exactly a gem in the VW lineup.
If you live in Texas then sure whatever but I end up doing a lot of rain/snow driving
I live in a rural area in Canada, I've worked for the municipality, and my dad was a snowplow operator for the municipality until he became a supervisor
so he and I drive on unplowed roads often in the winter
And those people do it with AWD.
and do they need it?
my father has a 2006 Golf Plus
