Dropping an engine is always bad.
The only reason Mazdabros say it's easy is because they've had practice.
(what I'm saying is you never actually said exactly what you hated about rotaries)
(you just said you hated working on them)
I've always kind of wondered if its possible to drop and install a new engine in my car if it became necessary
engines are cheap but I presume its impossible
And simply design doesn't negate all the vacuum lines and other bullshit you have to deal with in the final generation.
as long as the engine fits, you can swap it in, usually
I forgot what they were called
It's always hypothetically easy, practically hard.
"It's a two hour job, tops" is an all nighter.
well I mean with a new engine of the same thing - I've wondered if I could figure it out instead of taking it to a shop
if I screw something up/I get whacked by the sludge monster
unbolt transmission
Depends how much time you have?
take out wiring harness
Also change oil regularly to avoid sludge.
unbolt engine mounts
you need an engine stand and whatever the thing is that they use to lift engines out
ye I'm only at 3600 since my last oil change
engine crane
600 over what the forums recommend
yes that
but still have 1400 till I think its necessary
... just follow manufacturer recommendation.
which is 5k
the forums people say 1500 - 3k max
to avoid sludge
but I use synthetics so /shrug
Don't use shit oil.
^
You should be fine with a decent brand of oil to 5k.
Synthetic should only add peace of mind at this point.
is it bad to use synthetics
no?
Like there's talk of not doing certain things.
Don't use synthetic in older cars that have bene using dino blood.
Apparently shrinks seals?
depends on a lot of factors
whether or not synthetic is bad
like old cars don't like it, and avoid it in rotaries
oh well. it seems to work allright
don't
mines 5w30
The japanese
The tech in the Corolla engine is pretty insane.
r weird
It's got more piston oil sprayers than the Mustang.
Electric water pump, electric thermostat.
probably quicker than my worn out spineless V6 xD
Apparently a resin cam cover... no clue why, but Toyota is super proud of it.
they should have put the powertrain from the LS of the year into it
put the 4L V8 and 6speed from the LS that came out in '97, mounted it properly and set it up with a proper 4wd system
kind of a cross between the LS and the LX
I got myself high flow headers @dense shard
you know the LS motor has V6 variants right
what car?
rx300
I'm not even sure my car has a header.
Putting a v8 in anything makes it better
theres plenty of space up front
small block v8s are small
I know most new cars have an integrated exhaust manifold.
why the hell would you put a V8 in a Lexus RX
I'm not gonna put it in myself
To make it go fast.
those cars are ugly as fuck
The same reason you put a V8 in an RX-7.
v8 makes anything better
i don't mind the first gen RX
Mind you that's just to make it actually drivable.
the newest gen is ugly
and SUVs in general are just bad
Are they?
It works for quite a few people.
the new one is ugly but the first one is a pretty clean design
no?
it's common, but dumb
I was saying they should have set it up with the LS powertrain from the conception, not saying I'm gonna mod anything
why even buy an RX-7 at that point?
you could just buy, like, anything else
Even Mazda admits the rotary is a range extender at best.
because they like the body shape and aftermarket support
I got the damn car for free, be it slow or ugly, think what you will, but hey. it was bloody free.
and I quite like the colour
The RX-7 was designed for the rotary, not a fucking LS
ls fits in everything
true
sure it works, but it just ruins the car
Does it?
would be a hoot to LS swap my rx but that's something that just doesn't work
Just swap in a modern Toyota V6.
an RX-7 without a rotary is like a plane without wings
no?
Hell should be the same basic block design. lol
the rx-7 drives w/ a ls
it's just nowhere near as good without a rotary
buddy, the RX is just a guised up Camry.
the fuck
I'm sure something bigger and more powerful will fit.
Yeah, you can make power with out blowing apex seals
Don't give up hope yet.
Awesom, I had a friend with an RX-7. You know how he tuned it?
since when was the RX-7 made from the Camry?
Build pressure till he blew and apex seal.
then you need new wiring harnesses and shit, i am not experienced enough to deal with that
Lmao
Lexus RX.
When he blew the seal, he's take the pressure down a notch, and rebuild the engine.
No lie.
That's genius
The RX-7 was built with parts out of the 626
the ford telstar?
wdym, I'd daily one
I did daily one.
The car with the magical exploding transmission.
It was dull, slow, loud.
Comfy seats, but that's really about it.
Honda Accord > Mazda 626
The 626 was a Ford hoisted dud. Any redeeming features were negated by that stupid transmission.
Nifty engine tech? naaaaah
Bro
Reasonable styling? screw it.
it's easy to replace a trans
if it was I'd have done it by now
When a 1000 dollar car nukes a 300 dollar part... meh. skip
Once you do something 100x it becomes easy
Happily we got rid of the 626. The next owner had to deal with the transmission.
Anyway. Hopefully my Corolla will take me through at least... 24 RX-7s worth of engines.
It already has
To think my next new car purchase will either be an electric car or a minivan.
I love it. It looks awesome, has a decent interior, great performance, and has a long warranty
also is depreciating like a ton of bricks
there
same
My rationale is that in a couple years, a Stinger GT2 will be sub-20k or at least close, and then I can put 60ish percent down, finance the rest, and have sub 200$ a month payments for 3yrs
I've driven my coworker's Stinger
thoughts?
Bear in mind I'm coming from driving basic Fords with big engines, and a Lexus RX
I don't plan to track it/beat the shit out of it
just drive it (quickly on on-ramps) and stuff.
So the fact that its not great at 10/10 is fine by me tbh
drive it like a GT car is supposed to be, lol
ye
overall, I'd give it like a 6/10
The looks aren't great, the performance is pretty equal to the Porsche (though they are waaaay cheaper than the Porsche), and the interior is nice
yes
Like i find the Genesis G70 (same platform) to be very bland
nice looking, but just too
bland
It would be pretty easy to slide in the RWD Stinger
I'm debating which I want to target
considering I almost span out in the AWD one
?
the GTS 's awd system
oh
drift mode is useless if you don't track it
yeah I know
which is why I'd get a Fiesta ST instead of a Focus RS
(plus I think the Fiesta ST is more fun)
for me, i think the Stinger is close to perfect. decent performance, particularly in a straight line, and its big enough to be practical since I drive people/shit around a lot, and is (imo) fairly cool looking
and in theory is quite reliable
idk on the reliable part
I'd ask my coworker, but he'd probably spew some bullshit about it
I've not heard of widespread issues, besides a few people that mentioned the rotors warping
which, to be completely honest, if rotors warping occasionally is the biggest problem with a car, you've got a pretty damn good car on your hands
(he likes to brag about the car, kind of annoying sometimes)
oh, they're quiet, if you care
quiet in what way
even with the windows down there's not a lot of noise
interior wise or exhaust wise?
with the windows up, it's super quiet
I would like to put an exhaust on it but I'm not gonna ruin the warranty just for that
lol
and that's really nice - i like it when cars are super quiet on highway
yea
my coworker used to drive a Mini before he got the Stinger
still not sure what made him get a Mini, considering how he is
i also like that the Stinger is like.. loaded out in the gt2 trim
heated cooled seats, adaptive cruise and that stuff, heads up display, etc
I'm pretty sure my coworker's is whatever the base model is, but with AWD
the 4cyl or the 6?
its not a base model then, afaik the 6 is only offered in the GT, GT1, GT2, GTS
so probably just the V6 GT
probably
still a nice car xD
it's not fun riding to lunch with him
its that bad?
uncomfortable rear bench, plus his aggressive driving style
lol
I don't think my friends' SAAB SUV or my other friend's '95 Astro van are that bad
I guess
I wish you could install aftermarket shocks that were kinda.. halfway
between super stiff ones and the oem squish ones
you can, if you wanted to bother
I can't find the middle area
oh
i can find the really stiff ones but thats not really what I'm looking for
race RX300 intensifies
when you get the Stinger you could fully convert it to a track car
at least until the warranty runs out i'll be keeping it stock
LS Swapped, slap on a roots supercharger, coilovers, lower it, make it manual; and ofc strip the interior and install a roll cage
ofc, but that's all part of the LS conversion
that would cost what, 50k?
depends
get an old ass LS, whatever the cheapest 6 speed you can find (for an LS)
only have the shop do the swap, do everything else yourself
maybe 30k at that point, if not less
the RX is a nice daily car though
it would be hilarious to yeet around a corner, keeping pace with Corvettes, in a late 90s SUV
(and in a colour that was only around in the first few months)
nothing
it was free
nice
better deal than my friend and his $300 Astro Van
but, the exhaust leak makes it sound cool
hey I have a teeny exhaust leak that I'm too lazy to fix atm as well
mines in the flex pipe (common issue) and only reveals itself when I step on it from a stop/slowly up a hill
when the engine is loaded
not as bad as the other issue the Astro Van has
where, occasionally, the exhaust will disconnect from the manifold (slide back so that there is no longer a seal) when under load
and in order to fix it, you have to stop, get under the car, and slide the exhaust back into place
oh yikes
mine just burbles a bit from the tiny crack
sounds kinda like jetsons car
the leak the van has is pretty bad, it's loud under load (with the windows down, or from outside); but it's still surprisingly quiet on the highway (unless the exhaust comes out)
and uh, you probably don't want to know what a LS V6 sounds like when it's basically in the cabin right next to you without any exhaust on it

I see leaky exhausts.
Who needs complex exhausts system? Just fucking straightpipe that badboy
My car has a slight leak somewhere in the middle of the car prolly, there's a pretty bassy sound emitting from the middle of the car when revving
But it's not the fartcan noice luckily. Just sounds slightly more aggressive now
It won't pass the annual inspection tho
It did
Glare emoji
It shouldn't have
The exhaust system must be properly attached and must be gas-tight over its entire length (i.e. it must not be leaking anywhere).
It's literally in the inspection list
@indigo coral corolla has everythin i need
Maybe they didn't check it properly then?
Could be, your car should have failed with that leak (:
Maybe it isn't a leak? I mean, i never really looked at it. I just hear a bassy burpling sound from the middle of the car
Could be, I have no idea. Could be something in the silencer came loose, so it doesn't silence everything anymore.. but then you'd hear some rattling
Maybe worth noting while it's in the shop for those stupid shocks anyways?
Sure, just let them check it

I would like to keep my car good for more than 4 months so if it's leaking I'll get new parts... not DIY it together
yikes, a new exhaust system... that ain't gonna be cheap
Bwah not that amazing, probably 1 piece which is €200-250 including installation?
idk, if it has an exhaust leak, replacing the system would cost more than the car itself imo
Are you on crack
You don't have to replace the exhaust in one piece
Swap out the leaky part
I'll get new parts... not DIY it together
yah still you don't have to replace the whole thing
tbf if one part is rusted out, the rest might be pretty rusty too
Or the flexible bit, that's common too
@fathom socket Father's money
Lmao
It has low profile tires so yeah it's a car that can be on track
I love Tesla but they don't have a prayer of beating the Taycan on track
The Model S is significantly bigger, heavier, more comfortable
it's not designed to be a track weapon
A Model 3 Performance Plus or something would have a better shot
It's fun when you're driving to fill up your car. And you see the range go from 20 km, down to 10, and back up to 20 km again.
I'm not sure what people wanted with the NSX.
It's still a Ferrari killer at half the price.
Sure it's not going to take out the stupid expensive hypercars... but 90% of the performance? close enough.
They wanted a 100k car to rival the Bugatti chiron while being able to run forever perfectly reliably and seat 6
Obviously
Then they should get an M5.
Lol
Minus one seat
Of course that's /s
In a few years Acura/Honda will kill the NSX, and people will all go, "what a shame, the NSX is dead, I loved that car."
Also Tesla really should be looking to update the Model S... it's getting a bit long in tooth.
What are they even going to do to update the Model S?
I guess make it more similar to the Model 3 for the interoro?
Also, I have no idea what the Model S is going to do around the Nurburgring.
That Telsa in the post above is a widebody, lul
Wasn't their issue mainly overheating?
Ahh, yes. A simple motor swap will get you around the Nurburgring at speed. /s
Is that sarcasm?
There fixed it.
Lol
They're competing for a market that doesn't exist.
If people want a car that goes quickly around a track they'll get a a McLaren or something.
It's like FCA with the Hellcat.
Hell yeah, a Hellcat... and what about cars that I can afford... oh I can get a Jeep for just under 30k... without AC? Wow /s
I'm just happy to see that there finally is a competitor to the Model S from a legacy manufacturer.
the configurator is up
I wonder what time the Model S set for Laguna Seca
Oh, they already posted the time. It was 1:36.555
Is that relevant?
Cause I'd be more interested how many laps at that time it can do.
Cause y'know... range.
Same. Or any kind of heat issues.
Porsche Taycan stacks up against Tesla Model S. Specs don't tell the whole story! MKBHD Merch: http://shop.MKBHD.com Video Gear I use: http://kit.com/MKBHD/v...
I think Marques sums this up pretty good in his video; I don't think the Taycan is competition for Tesla
In that they are focused on different audiences
Tesla is more usability and practicality, while Porsche is more about track racing and their brand styling.
And yea they are updating the S and X, Elon talked about that a little while ago on twitter
@indigo coral Taycan is heavier than P100D
I like that channel :3
why am I like this, I'm 17 and don't have a job right now but I might be going to look at a car tonight
wouldn't be so bad except that I already have a car
coz gearhead
yeah
dude ive pissed so much cash up the wall on cars n modding them
it's a 1999 MK3 Jetta and the body is rotten, it needs brakes, and it's been sitting for a few years
the engine is worth $1000 pretty easily if it runs lol
probably dump the engine in my golf then part out the rest
yea nice
even if it doesn't run I might still buy it depending what's wrong
mmm sounds like a shitbox thou lol
ad says 96k km, could be that or could be 396k because the odo rolls over at 300
either way if it runs the engine's worth $1000
the only part I really want is the engine and the new tires it comes with
Wagooooon
this following mod will become very lucrative.

It's the Suzuki Primate!
This proved amusingly accurate last week for me.

Oh, wait. It was Turbo Direct Injection. Ohay. But it's only disels that use the TDI naming.

that's not that fast
Model 3 is the of the top safety cars.
yeah but that's a lot of damage for a semi tractor doing 60
if it was loaded then that'd make more sense, but 7500 kg is a light unloaded tractor
Depends on how much intrusion into the passenger compartment
if the car did bad or not
if it ruined the sheet metal but kept the occupants safe, thats the goal
yeah it protected the passengers but that's a lot of damage
Any car would have a lot of damage....
not that much usually
source: I worked in a body shop and did a bunch of collision repair
Teslas are far safer than most any other car - that's been statistically proven
except for some volvos
The Tesla has an extremely strong structure to keep te battery safe in case of an accident... But it's not always the best for the people inside the car.
If anybody remembers, the crashtest Elon Musk showed, Model 3 vs S60 around a pillar, the Model 3 nearly didn't budge where the S60 folded around the pillar. You'd say the Model 3 is safer, but when you look at the numbers, the Volvo absored all the energy, which resuls in much lower G-forces applied to the head and other parts of the body of the driver and passengers.
I'm not trying to say Tesla's are unsafe car, quite the opposite. But not deforming isn't always better.
@stoic ledge Increase the crumple zone
battery has to stay rigid, otherwise 🎆
take load away from the cargo, aka people
Or just drive an h1 or a semi, where it doesn't matter
@MK Increase the crumple zone take load away from the cargo, aka people
That's exactly what I meant 🙃
battery has to stay rigid, otherwise fireworks
Exactly 🙃
But Elon musk likes watching things explode though @stoic ledge
boom
yeah lets blow up shitty little hatchbacks
Nah, Elon Musk has a Model S for that
Model S is actually a competent car
> implying hatchbacks can't be competent cars
implying that you can afford a car
From what I understand, the motors on the S and X were the primary overheating issue - the battery was less prone to overheats. The motors from the 3 (which will be in the Roadster if I recall right) don't overheat near as easily due to better cooling and higher efficiency
so I'm cautiously optimistic about cooling on R2
There have been multiple cases of spontaneously combusting Tesla Model S's tho
Ford pinto combusted because gasoline leaked on to the exhaust pipe
and the whole car exploded
theres been a number of recalls recently of manufactureres saying park the car outside and don't drive it - namely BMW had a bunch that got recalled
Even the Stinger needed a small cover on a part of the wiring harness that could rub on a burr on the metal (highly unlikely but something that needed addressing)
its not unusual
but does that causes spontaneous combustion?
just causes a short which usually only results in melted wires
I didn't know about the BMW recall
That's what I assumed @carmine summit
I don't like BMW anyways
No cars recalled in Europe
my car had wires short before I bought it
I replaced one of the 2 wires and it works perfectly
no fire or anything
Because the European versions aren't the same as the US versions /s
Or your government could just not be arsed to enforce a recall
Probably
iirc our explorer has had... 6? different recall notices since we got it
rip
lemon of a car that it is
better than GM not recalling things until they're like 25 years old and most of them are in scrapyards lol
yeah the warranty expired at 60k
lol
barely squeaked in
but seriously - what car needs that much work before 100k
something with a design/manufacturing flaw
as far as I know my engine has never been opened (obviously changed fluids and stuff) and im at 130k
VW 1.4 TSIs 😉
timing chain stretched and wrecked a ton of shit
car didnt throw a CEL until it was liek
about to let go and be completely f*cked
dealer had the car for a month and rebuilt like half the motor
well yeah, it's not easy to detect a worn chain
Why do the chains wear out before belts do
wtf
the interval for my timing belt on my car is 90k
90k? what do you drive
and the explorer chain shat itself somewhere in the 50s
1999 RX 300
thats the lexus recommended interval is every 90k
that's probably chains
yeah but modern VWs also burn a quart of oil ever 1k and that's fine according to VW
My car burns no oil but it does leak
Valve cover gasket was leaking so I replaced it, and it still leaks
A tiny bit on the bottom somewhere but nothing that ever has touched the ground
I'm planning an engine swap so I'm not too worried about it
Going to see if I can get a head tonight
Thats just what 20 y/o cars do I guess
22
Has had no problems over the last 15k miles
I have a 97 Golf
Aside from a couple oil changes and tire balancing/alignment it's been easy
Oh and I replaced the rear sway bar linkage the other day
It was clunking
I need to get a new air mix servo for in the dash, it's going out
I need to get a gauge panel, pyrometer, and a boost gauge for my engine swap
I wish I could have the powertrain from the Lexus LS from '99
4L V8 300hp and a nice 5spd instead of my 3L V6 220hp and clunky 4spd
So 1UZ
I have 90 hp
I'm thinking about updating to a newer style trans when I do my engine swap
The gears are so damn long
So every time you shift up, even when you are flooring it, it drops down to like 2k rpm
Power hits at 3k
Though benefit of it is that at 70 to 85 for example doesn't take much pedal
Passing power at speed isn't crazy but it's better than a teeny 4cyl or something
than a teeny 4cyl
A 2-cyl TwinAir engine is much better :^)
I mean my little 1.8l is decent
I only have 90 hp but apparently that comes with 145 nm of torque
according to wikipedia
after a swap and some screwdriver tuning I hope I'll have about 100 hp and 220 nm
Ah it's the 1.8 with a whopping 90 hp, yeah that beast which looked ancient besides the more powerful 1.6... they even had a 1.8 with just 75hp, even in a 2001 Golf Convertible
It does have ok torque in the lower rev range, 145Nm at 2500rpm for a N/A engine isn't bad
But that's ofcourse because it's a 8 valve engine iirc
We only got the 1.8, 2.0, diesel, and VR6 here
oof
I'm going to see if I can get a good AAZ head because I have 2 low mileage engines with bad heads
I've got a bottom end with head studs, I'll do the gaskets and put a head on it and see what I can do with the tuning
Theoretically it can handle up to 50 psi of boost
T56 swap
afaik its impossible to swap the rx300
nothing's impossible
its all electronically controlled and I've got no idea how to program an ecu to play nice
Standalone ecu
(even transmission is ECT)
get a transmission the ecu can control
where tf would I put it?
its transverse v6 with some stupid backasswards transmission - theres no tunnel back thru the car
fair enough
I just went to my local wrecking yard and the guy at the counter says they don't have the engine I want
Either he's wrong or they've scrapped a bunch of stuff since last year.
I'm going to check some more places but by the looks of things I might wind up doing a 1.8T instead of a diesel. Sucks because I'd be in a high class for SCCA rules, but then again I'd have a 1.8t
@stoic ledge it's better to not have more than a foot intrusion into the cabin where the driver is than to have slightly higher G-force.
And @carmine summit The whole point is that the car absorbs the impact while keeping the cabin intact, meaning you have a super low chance of being injured in the crash.
yeah, but if you look there's a pole basically in the backseat
Did you guys hear that you can get the new 992 Carrera with an aero package?
@viral matrix original
thats my car
That Porsche looks kind of nice ngl
Does it come with a manual transmission?
@carmine summit what? the pole in that image has barely damaged the frame of the car, Definitely nowhere near intruding into the cabin
damn poor tesla
but proof that they are made like freaking tanks
what did it have, tboned by a light runner?
tboned by a truck
original tweet by owner
looks like that laptop was in the crash too
wow straight into the pole, how much force was that
About 3
3 what? houga dougas?
Yes
that's alot
@jagged coyote F = MA
duh, i'm not in engineering school and had to learn that
but here there is also torque involved
bcs the car was hit in about the middle, and the pole hit at the end, so twice the amount of force
No
bruh, basic lever
^
Ever tried to stab yourself with a brick? Doesn't work.
Try it with a needle, goes in way easier because the area of impact is tiny
Now you are getting into pressure?
That's why stepping on a Lego hurts so fuckin much
^ exactly
and a "huga duga" isn't a real force, it's like if you had a tight bolt, and you had to put all your weight in it, with a 2m long breaker bar @vital glen
@jagged coyote Yeah
^ i knew that formula. Learned it in school, but don't remember anymore
the F= m * a one?
it's the radius, in this case 2m, multiplied by the force, multiplied by sin theta
I am not bothered to get out the greek letters to copy paste them
Think it was F = m×a
that is force
yep, force equals mass times acceleration
Who looks both sides on an intersection? The light is green!
(/s)
It's kind of like those stupid driver videos.
After a point you start getting confused on who the bad driver actually is.
Of course the red light runner, but by looking if the intersection is safe (there could be a police car/ambulance/... Coming) this could have been avoided
You can drive like the best driver ever, but other people still make mistakes
You always have to assume all other drivers suck 😛
Also: why do people always film there bloody screen? Just upload the damn video directly to YouTube/Twitter/...
The light had just turned green. The guy driving didn't even try to slow down.
Unless he's super naive, there's always one jerk who decides that a grace period is allowed after a light turns red.
Not his fault, sure. But a cold comfort for a totaled 90k car.
tl;dr: Defensive driving is safer driving.
^ yes
driving is better than sitting
I like to drive fast, but I always look out for idiots who can't drive xD
@stoic ledge I look out for people like you
Good
That is... Exactly what we've been saying
I watched the video again
it was about 2 seconds after leaving the light
then about a 2second crash
@stoic ledge I mean, the light just turned green, just better to look out for idiots
like for instance, just this afternoon i witnessed someone getting run over bcs he was an idiot and rushed through the road when we were starting to move
Again... That's exactly what we've been saying xD
I mean, there was no good way for him to look left going into the intersection bc there was a car in his way
But good thing he was driving a Model 3, uninjured and could get a new one for pretty cheap, especially since his insurance won't be paying for it.
Why wouldn't he get insurance for it? He's not at fault.
No I mean his insurance isn't paying, the truck's insurance will
(If it had insurance)
Ohhh yeah.

@eager kite
- ewww viral hog
- Who ever modified that f250 must be ashamed of himself
- it's 2wd and the wheels that have power are barely touching the ground
To the Tesla crash above. Here's the side picture.
Such a tank
Tesla does make a very safe vehicle
dang, maybe the house payment for a car is worth it
I mean it's the price of the average car
more than "average" but yeah
If you fully decked out a Model S you could get it to that
But the Model 3 (which is the crashed car above) starts at 35K
more like 39k but yeah
you can get the base model for 35K....
35k was a scam.
^
No... you really can't.
Yes you can
don't think the 35k exists anymore
prove it
they had it for a whiel and took it down
if I was gonna get one I'd go Performance personally
Last I heard it has to be specially custom ordered directly from Elon Musk himself.
You have to call them or go to a location to order the 35K model
but it is still available for purchase
how long ago was that posted?
April this year
exactly
There's no 35k option on the site.
And doing a special in store special order doesn't count as on offer.
You can't find stripper Model 3s in the wild.
They had it on their website for a while, but on the Q1 earnings call they said that they got 6x more sales of the standard range plus than the standard range, so they removed it from the site so they could streamline production to be more standard range pluses
They nixed the base. no cloth seats even.
I would never get a base model car - I'd get the Model 3 Performance if I was to buy one
^
Apparently they never had those plans.
But it is still purchasable
?
You can call or go to one of their stores and order a base model 3
Most people don't because the standard range plus is a way better deal for 4K more
but the option is still there
I remember when Elon Musk said the Model 3 starts at 35k. That you can option it out as such online.
To go back on that and make it a special order is a pretty big lie.
And it was for a while
Especially since he ended up delaying the model 3 base so long the tax credit expired.
the tax credit is still a thing...
yes, but still a thing
3250 is literally half.
and it wouldn't matter what vehicles sold
It's a thing, but nowhere close as much.
any owner would get that credit
And people were hedging their bets on the base 3... so they could get a Model 3 for under 30k.
That never happened.
You can still get a model 3 for under 30k depending on where you live in the US
Hell, in some places it can be under 20K
where?
^
Cali
no?
yea.....
under 20k?
California offers 20 grand in tax credits?
Federal tax credit, state tax credit, no sales tax, local city incentives...
How much are those?
That doesnt make it below 20k LOL.
3250 for federal.
If its below 20k guess I'm not buying a stinger
State credit is how much?
It comes out to around 15K when you add it all up last time I did it
no it doesn't.
California is 7 grand.
there's no way on gods green earth theres 25k off a base Model 3
maybe that was before when the federal credit was 7500
So 10 grand off the base.
but even if it's half
So IF you order the base model... which I doubt they'll do right now.
you're still getting 12G off the price
35 minus 10.
keep in mind thats not "off the price"
Plus taxes and licenses.
Ok, lets be honest
A Bolt is cheaper.
A bolt kinda sucks though
So does a Model 3.
I took one for a spin, the interior is godawful
most people buying teslas in cali are going to be making enough money to get the full benefit from these tax credits
At least the Bolt is assembled correctly.
the Model 3 is a better EV
???
its interior is sooo cheap
the Model 3 is better than S or X for interior quality
that's saying nothing
bruh Chevy loses money every time they sell a bolt
So does Tesla.
?
I mean hell... Tesla turned a profit once last year?
Last I checked they're losing money.
you realize Tesla makes amazing margins on their cars right
Meh. I'm going to stick to saving for a Stinger GT2
so their massive loses are?
They have one of the highest gross margins in the auto industry
and wait to buy a Tesla until they get their shit sorted out
Oh they aren't profitable because they chose not to be
Theyre not amazon.
They have incredibly high expenses and cannot make money at the moment.
Tesla is trying to be profitable.
It would slow their growth if they had to be profitable
Elon has been promising profit for 5 years now.
not right now they aren't
We can agree to disagree. Biggest reason I'd never buy a Tesla atm is that if the company goes under, you're totally fucked
They're building an entire factory in China right now, they aren't concerned with profit
"Despite its huge popularity, Tesla bears continue to slam the company. Tesla continues to struggle for sustainable profitability. CEO Elon Musk has, on multiple occasions, spoken about Tesla’s ability to achieve sustainable profitability in the near term."
They are.
Very much so.
Not at all
Read what I posted.
no software, no autopilot updates, no parts, any used parts you buy have to be coded to the car, etc.
This isn't me talking.
It wouldn't benefit them in any way to be profitable right now
These are market analysts.
yes it would Lmao
uhhhh
