here manual transmissions are pretty much only available on a few base models from VW, Ford, and Chevy, and then super sport models like the BMW M series, high end mustangs, and high end camaros. Even the new corvette is auto only

99% of driving instructor cars here are manual. If you pass you exam in an auto, you are limited to driving an auto only. If you pass it in a manual, you are allowed to drive both

A buddy of mine has a Skoda Octavia 1.6TDI DSG, which is basically a Golf Wagon. At 30k miles, he had the clutches replaced. 3k miles later, the clutches are slipping again. It's just horrible

It's probably a better idea to rent a track car from one of the rental places around the ring.
Considering that if anything happens to your car, then you're pretty much out of luck.
Your insurance will pay for anything that might have happened to other cars because of what you caused.
