The VG30DE are alright if you go with any of the turbocharged ones id recommend replacing the turbocharger if its the original. Journal bearings and 30 years old don't go well. Nevermind the 80's design, so they'll have some pretty bad lag for being small as the turbo is.

If its the last body style (90s) it'll be the twin turbo, and I'd recommend the same, and don't buy the JDM ones. the ceramic bearings explode if you up the boost, from excessive rpm.

Replace with a modern turbo(s) if you can. Less lag and more power.

I think it's just from growing up. My family has a history of buying GM products that break down due to overheating (1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme), fuel pump (1994 Cadillac deVille), bad crank bearings (1996 Cadillac deVille), suspension (1995 Buick Riviera), alternators (1993 Buick Park Avenue Ultra), supercharger (Same '93 Buick), or coil packs (all but the '96 Cadillac).

So my brain is just assuming that, because the Mini has a complicated, high-compression, turbocharged engine, something is going to go wrong.

I got a couple of questions. I’m about to pull my hair out

So...I’ve been going through spec pages, manuals and what not and until now what I found is that a Hot Valley engine is basically ‘a direct injection engine with the heads swapped so that the intake faces out and the exhaust in’
That got me thinking... could you swap the heads from right to left, changing the cams/pushrods in order not to ||fuck|| the timing?

Second question... Which ecu would you run? Syvecs, Pectel Cosworth, Life, Bosch or anything else? For racing applications ofc these ecus are not for enthusiasts..
I wish I had money to buy one of these but anyway.. which do you think it’s the best? ||I know best is a strong word||

possibly dumb question: i have a first gen rogue, obviously with a cvt transmission. the person who had the car before me didn't love it very much, but I've had it for about a year now and i've been trying to get all the old parts swapped out. it's at about 167k miles and I don't know if the transmission ever got replaced or when the last maintenance was done on it

i haven't had the transmission fluids touched because i was always told "you'll kill your transmission if they flush it"

is that an exaggeration or should i keep leaving the fluid alone? a lot of people say to change it every 30k miles but then i have friends who tell me that changing the fluids is a scam meant to break your transmission 😬
