The actual term "pony car" was just to differentiate the Mustang model specifically from other muscle cars like the Falcon, Cougar, Torino, Fairlane, and Galaxie. Chevy and Dodge did this in much the same way with the Camaro and Charger. That's why those are generally seen as the "big 3" muscle cars when you look back at the 60s and 70s.

That tax is only payed when the car is first registered, but it's quite high

So upgrading to a bigger engine is not only more expensive because the engine is also more expensive, but also because the CO2 emission goes up

Hell, sometimes even fitting larger rims will increase the CO2 emissions -> raising the taxes
