Friends mom had a 135i. Carpooled 3 kids home, still don’t know how
I was the same height then that I am now lol
Lolz xD And the 1 series over at your side of the ocean is a coupe no?
Yeah. Well hers was a vert but 2 door only
Yeah we've also got it as a hatch
I liked them so I was considering them as my next car (hatch that is), but I seriously can't fit in one, too narrow
Yeah kind of important factor
Yeah so we keep on looking, no hurry
I’m trying to convince my parents to buy an Edge ST. They’re looking at a mid size SUV and want a highlander or a Subaru aspect or Aztec or something A
Ascent 😂
@shadow osprey aztek is best
Yeah sure
truckception. courtesy of chp
s a f e t y i s o u r m a i n p r i o r i t y
it was legal, except for needing 3 more tie downs, amazingly enough
You'd be surprised the stuff that's "legal" for towing/hauling, as long as it's personal use
Buy an RS and stick a Fiesta front bumper on. Basically the same. And talk to Rob Dahm, he knows a thing or two about putting rotaries in American cars
Rob Dahm is actually from my city. Someone that graduated a year before me actually works with him
wouldnt the bumper swap not work since the fiesta is smaller width wise?
nope, my bad. I want the smallness of the fiesta, but the raw power of an RS
And body shops can work magic. Give them a Fiesta bumper and I bet they can make it work
i could make it work probably, its just not worth the time
The size difference is like... non existent. It's tiny and tinier
It's 10 inches shorter. Less than my
..... feet
Im from Michigan, born and raised in Detroit. I live in Flat Rock currently, where they make the Mustangs, some Lincoln's and also some Mazda's. I work next to the Dearborn plant where they make the F150's. So thats what everyone drives
The Focus plany is in Wayne, so people drives those too, but Fiestas arent made stateside iirc so no one drives them over here. Even at Ford Headquarters
Thoughts on Edge ST?
I'm trying to convince my parents to buy one instead of a shitty Highlander or Subaru
I think it's pretty dope
Ford is flexing on the performance market in all aspects
Fiesta, Focus, Taurus, Mustang, F150, Edge, and Explorer all have some kind of high perf model
Fusion technically does too with the 2.7
Subarus are good to you if you take care of them
Most cars are good if you take care of them
I just think those two are so bland
Especially the Toyota
all engines are partial to maintenance, but the boxer, by design needs it wayyyy more.
give a toyota fuel and it will run forever
The ascent is also like puke ugly
Any thoughts on the newer civic type r?
It's a civic that makes 300hp
but looks like a turd
enjoy trying to control it
the diff is pretty good
FWD is FWD
@shadow osprey huyandi laminated the fucking torque steers, duh, with their Civic type to rice
ignorance is bliss @shadow osprey
theres not alot that could keep up with 1 on a b-road blast
they handle extremely well, tons of traction
What's a b-road? @fossil imp
Ok
twisty
ignorance of what
Until you understeer into the fence
No, I haven't driven a type R, but I've driven other FWD cars
they arent all the same lol
I'm aware
diffs have come along way in FWD performance cars
I know the difference between a car and another car, believe it or not
Yeah and somehow they're still not as good as RWD 🤔
Besides, it's hard to justify a Type R when you can get a Mustang or Camaro for the same price
@shadow osprey so reading comments from professional drivers, there is almost no torque understeer, only when you are pulling hard gs
No I own a pick up truck
So, for the average Joe, they wouldn't feel it
For the average joe, they will definitely feel it, cause they're not smart enough to ride the line of not giving it too much throttle
It's a double edged sword
What's the other edge
@shadow osprey so Honda basically just pushed the steering geometry further in front
lel
Ok...
and the helical LSD
We were actually talking about this earlier on the forum
It was agreed that Honda just needs to make a new s2k to compete with the supra 2.0T
new supra ewww
Yeah we know
i wept a little when i saw that
The only people I know that like it are people that know nothing about cars and people that are sponsored by Toyota
yep
Especially the people sponsored by Toyota xD
its basically a bmw z4 with a shit skirt
Speaking about the s2k, some little shit that lives in my area
Everyday heading up to school, this pos tailgates everyone
Weaves in out of the lanes
vtec yo
Assuming he has an s2k?
Yes
Doesn't F20 vtec kick in at like 6500
5500-6000 depending
VTEC-E kicks in even earlier 😄
@stoic ledge vetc just kicked in yo 🍆 💦
seizure alert 😄
😅
Speaking on the FWD debate
My mom drives a fusion. I4, 150ish hp. Thing is like 2 tons (4000 lbs). That car torque steers HARD if you lay pedal to metal
I do agree that diffs are a worlds difference
But something that heavy with little horsepower shouldnt torque steer that much
When I went to the NAIAS and visited the Supra booth, they had a racing simulator. I figured it would drive almost similar to my car, since its about the same wheelbase and weight and yada yada. When I told that they drove different (ofc it's going to drive different on a sim) the only thing they would say is "of course it would drive different, it's a twin turbo car"
@tall kiln what car do you drive then ?
Turbo'd mustang
Nice
Well it's different than a Supra, so you're right about that xD
If it's due to the TT... I don't think so 😛
Idk the entire ordeal was off putting
If the only thing you have to say ab the car is that its TT than theres not much to it
Sweet. Got a LED conversion kit for my headlights on my car 😃
Now I just need to figure out how to install it....
Step 1: pull out the old ones
Step 2: install the new ones
Step 3: profit
Yeah I went and looked and it doesn't seem difficult
That car has horrible low beams, which are getting replaced. I'm leaving the high beams, theyre fine.
@tall kiln a turboed coyote or an ecoboost
They probably don’t know much about it anyways since it’s a BMW
Neither
V6?
Oh it’s a new edge
Yessir
Fox platform wasn’t exactly high performance
Well SN95s use the same platform
And even with full bolt ons, a 302 won’t do much over 300 so it is what it is
Yes I'm aware it's all the same platform, but hell, the v6 made 190 hp, with 2 less cylinders and 1.2 l less of displacement
Yes and 70lb ft less torque
Well if you’re comparing the 5.0 then it should be compared to either the 4-cyl in the fox or the 3.8 in the SN95, which made 145 hp
The 3.8 in the new edge made 210 yes, but the 4.6 made 260
And 300 lb ft
The 232 is the last pushrod engine too. The 4.2 in the f150 was an entirely new engine
The 4.6 is a solid motor, I have one in a thunderbird
The 281 in the thunderbird doesnt have the PI package though, so it has 210ish hp, where as the Mustangs have 260ish
I'm planning on throwing a top end kit on the thunderbird but I think I'll have to take the engine out because theres almost no clearance between the strut towers and heads
If I do have to take it out, I probably wont throw the top end kit on
Sorry the V6 made 190 my b
Non-PI And PI heads are the same dimensions. There never was room in the engine bay to begin with lol. One or two of the thunderbird gens were built on the fox platform as well so you won’t have any problems @tall kiln
Also, putting PI heads on a non-PI motor will give you a nice bump in compression
I think the lowest the 4.6 made was like 215 or 220
JK the lowest was the first appearance in the town car at 190
Still made 270 tq tho
I'm p sure its makes 210 or 215. It's a 97 so it's the last year produced, but I've heard stories about the engine having to come out from the bottom because there is no room up top
205/265 in 94-95 and 205/280 in 96-97
Ah it’s one of those that’s pushed way under the cowl
I knew it was something like that, but if I have to pull the motor, I might as well put something else in. But the problem with that is the transmisson is an odd length because the length of the car so finding a transmission to fit would be an issue
If you’re gonna swap it, you might as well buy something more swap friendly
Not even that iirc. It's just that the engine bay is so small that theres an inch from head to strut tower
Half the engine under the cowl is not something that will change with a new motor
An inch is a lot of space for a mod motor 😂
Yea that car isnt very swap friendly at all. It's stupid heavy
Maybe if you wanted to put something smaller in, but you cant up size. And the 4.6 is a smaller engine as it sits
Shit, a coyote is smaller than a 4.6
Is it really?
a DOHC 4.6/5.4, yes
They're super freaking wide
The valve covers have a flat side to fit in the engine bay
The 5.4 has a taller deck height so it fits even less in the engine bay. Just look at a '00 Cobra R or GT500
thats wide wtf
They look so weird on a stand with no intake manifold. Talk about a giant V
Well the 5.4 is a truck motor, fit inside a way smaller engine bay
Will it fit in mine tho
What vehicle?
The 5.4 had a problem with throwing spark plugs, only if you neglected its maintenance
Thats not true
Lots of time and money
Anything is possible with both
Well it's reliable and due to the LPG system cheap to run, so not bad as a first car
And no
They're fitting an entire Celica running gear into a 70s mini
Without lengthing or widening
Lol in the rear I suppose ?
Front.
Damn
They wanted it done over the summer
That was 4 years ago
It's a very good watch 😂
Everything is over engineered
😂 That was to be expected
They're on episode 37ish, and they wired up all the electrical besides the motor. The interior is completely finished. They have the front and rear suspension in place, and they set up the alternator.
Each episode is 30ish mins long and come out 2 a year. But theres no schedule. It's a good watch, very good. My dad and I watch it to see how they handle their problems and issues
Yeah sounds like fun
bad obsession guys are on another level
@stoic ledge The only thing that is racing, is the semis
@vital glen what ?
@stoic ledge your corsa
MK's car again
he shows it every time
well that's still better than if it was something else.........
no
me too in white
@fossil imp I want to be as good as them. That's one of my aspirations
Don't we all have that one friend whose car never works properly
My friend: 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. That car is falling apart.
Also I wouldn’t call the 5.4 a truck motor, it was an aluminum block. That’s like calling an LS3 a truck motor, when technically it would be an LQ4 or LQ9, which are the iron block versions of the LS2 and 3 (I think). Granted Ford didn’t make iron block 5.4s iirc. The way it was tuned in a truck though definitely made it good in its application, lotta torque for an OHC motor
Yoooo my friend had a grand prix also 😂😂
My RX has saved his ass from sitting on the side of the road a half dozen times now lol
His car is a bit faster than mine, and he finds that funny, but I'll take the tradeoff seeing as I don't have to worry if mine will start or not 😂
RX?
Ah. I thought you meant RX8 for a second I was like... wow that’s surprising
lol
If he had a RX8 it would be him who had a broken car all the time
Well both of them, apparently
I thought the 5.4 only came with iron blocks and the cobra motors were the only aluminum blocks you could get for that motor
well hu
i have just found out my motorbike insurance has ran out today
i think it is now time to get new insurance
ops
All 4V 4.6s in mustangs were aluminum, with the exception of the 03-04 termi cobras. You might be right with the iron blocks in trucks
Actually yeah I think so. I don’t know why i thought they were all aluminum
But the 5.4 in the Cobra R and GT500s were definitely aluminum blocks
The 4v 4.6s were only used in Mustang's iirc
The first mod motor introduced was a 4V actually, in the Lincoln mk8
Also used in a couple other Lincoln’s, like the Aviator (explorer) and continental I think. Fun fact it was also used in Koenigsegg’s first car
First couple actually
Actually I remember all that now. I remember debating going to a junkyard and pulling a 4v 4.6 out of an Aviator
But I knew it was used in Koenigseggs cars. I just meant Fords earlier
Lol
I love helicords
@hollow wind yea same, u seen the prices of a mint one now? wish i had kept hold of it !
mine had an mi16v conversion on throttle bodies down too, fml
mine was original no mods not even the exhaust
Caddy ELR looks cool imho, but was waaaaay to expensive
It’s a caddy volt... ew. Looks like they forgot to shorten the wheelbase, but definitely remembered to give it shit visibility. Oh GM
Well it kinda looks like a concept car they took into production, which is cool
But the drivetrain... A retuned Chevrolet Volt with a bit more power with a much higher fuel consumption for twice the price... Yeah that's not gonna work
well car is one those which u cant see
we went for the same joke haha @wraith forum
Hot valley vs normal porting? What do you guys say?
Those are 3 different pics lmao. The third one looks nice. Generally not a fan of white
@fathom socket Home port your shit, it's cheaper 😂
Not my cup of tea rather have the retro 900 turbo saab
Saab 95 N-G SportsCombi 😍 Too bad they never had the chance to put it into production
It really is a shame that Saab went under.
@shadow osprey I was talking about different intake/exhaust configs.. I’d port mine at home but I don’t have titanium bits
that Saab looks really good
Sortof looks like a range rover imo lol
Don't you just hate it when you're getting your first car and your budget is extremely low
even worse if you get something unreliable and it keeps breaking
True
or when the parts are super expensive, or both
Oof
Note: stay away from Chrysler, they suck. lmao
Hmm ok, that's good to know
I'm thinking about importing a car from Japan, but my budget is sooo low
rip
Mega Rip
My budget I think is at $2.5k-$3k
But I still have to work during the summer to even get there
At least Chrysler parts aren't expensive
$2500 is plenty for a good car
You should be able to find almost anything in that price range
So mike May be trading the challenger off
Why ?
2019 camaro possibly 😛
id be wary
as of late gm has had a lot of air conditioner issues and engine/electrical problems
Ehh it has a warranty
I wonder if the Pink LTT car will ever be featured in a video game
@patent basalt do you enjoy talking third person?
@stoic ledge he doesn't use it as a car anyways, it will go to someone who will use it as such
@vital glen yeah i know, but still 😛
Is nakamichi a good brand for Headunits?
Sounds like taobao
Dope, I’m gonna go buy a new tape deck now
Just tested the diodes on my alternator. Got no connection from post -> housing and housing -> post, even with digging the multimeter probes into the housing.
Blown diodes perhaps?
Strange part is that I read around 14.2v while the car is running, 12.4v while the car is off
Anyone here either a) a mechanic or b) familiar with Subaru FB20 engines in any of their cars?
@tall kiln You know the 1JZ is a 2.5L right? So it wouldn't make sense to call an IS300 an IS300 with a 2.5L... It's a 2JZ lol
@jagged wagon Might as well throw your problem out, but you might have a better shot on the forum https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/901907-car-enthusiast-club-now-motorcycle-friendly-first-thread-to-100k-¯_ツ_¯/
This is a thread about cars. If you are not into that then the door is on the right. tis also in off topic. Its finally here. The long awaited and often discussed car thread. Welcome to the Garage. Pull up a chair and have a cold beverage as we discuss cars Its time to get th...
That's where I plan posting 😃 So basically I had both the CEL and VDC lights come on in my 2014 Crosstrek out of nowhere, specifically asking me to check the Emissions Control and Vehicle Dynamics Control systems. ODB II code is P000A which means "A" Camshaft Position Slow Response Bank 1.
I've checked the basics, like fluids & listened for noise, but am at a point where I'm going to call book an appointment with my mechanic, as I don't know how easy (or time consuming) it would be for me to chase down the problem sensor or replace the Oil Control Valves, assuming they're the problem.
The car still runs OK, albeit I can tell there's a slight lack of power, but it got me home from Victoria to Nanaimo, BC with the error codes... (what can I say, I take risks.) Just wondered if anyone has run into similar problems on a Crosstrek, Impreza, or other Subaru's with the FB20 engine, and if so, what they ended up doing.
Yeah I got nothing
lol yeah i guessed as much - I'm good with basic maintenance, but troubleshooting car engine codes is like troubleshooting Windows bluescreens: the fault code gives you a general idea of what's wrong, but it's up to you to start replacing all the pieces one by one until it works again. except with OS's you can just pave and nuke with minimal effort
exactly
what's an ETA lol
"estimated time arrival"
ok
Estimated time OF arrival 😛 @grizzled mulch @warm sparrow
I think that question is clear cut
Obviously the shorter you drive, the less gas you will use. So if a drive if 15 miles longer, but no traffic and takes 30 mins less, you will consume less fuel
so I have the Buick TourX for the week (just dropped off today) - AMA
@livid nimbus are u ok?
@magic arrow no, you've got a Opel Insignia Country Tourer dropped off today 😛
But it's a really nice car imho
Yeah that's what I thought
Haven't driven that one, i've only driven the 1.5T (165hp) and 1.6T (200hp)
Looking forward to the video 😄
Yes I've seen both already 😃
i'm uploading the Trackhawk video this Friday! O_O
😮
Let me be the judge of that 😈 😈
haha sure!
Were you also able to get a different Odyssey? I thought you said your tester didn't have the built in vacuum cleaner, but I did see one in the video 👀
yeah they swapped it out
I have to say Honda as a company is quite amazing here in the US
super traditiona
but very supportive
yeah i know they suffer import tax issues
Well that's not really their issue (Civic for example us built in the UK) but the line-up doesn't appeal to European car buyers
Just 0.29% of the cars sold last year was a Honda 😮
Toyota has the same tax issues but they sold almost 20 times as many cars
Well, the UK market is saturated with tons of other options
The us doesnt have many in retrospect
True, but there are multiple 'reasons' imho. Jazz (Fit) is a type of car nobody buys anymore, Civic is to strange looking for most people, HRV/CRV are too expensive... And that's the entire line-up
So people spend their money elsewhere
Braaaap stututututu vs. raaaahhhhw rahw rahw?
i made sounds like that in the X4 M40 video! haha
Guy on the forum works for Honda as a tech. They seem to be a pretty solid company
@tall kiln @grizzled mulch depends on the car. Some hybrids have a stop start mode, or fully electric mode for short trips, and will get better effective fuel economy due to the electric motors being able to manage a short distance trip, regardless of time, whereas a longer distance trip would run the battery dry and then switch to gas. But yeah, for any gas engine the shorter time trip would usually be better.
thanks for correcting me bud btw, i don't have time to correct that
@magic arrow I know you’ve reviewed the Subaru Ascent, but have you reviewed a Toyota Highlander? Also any plans to review a Ford Edge? 😁 lol. My parents are in the market. I’m trying to sway them towards the Ford but they’re primarily looking at the other two.
the edge looks pretty cool, looks kind of mean if you get black glossy wheels, and the car in either one of the blues, white/pearl white, or gloss black
Exactly, that's why I like it. And the Edge ST just looks even cooler
Just look at that
Not bad
I've tossed around the idea of slightly lowering my RX300 lol. Tighter suspension and drop it a bit would help a looot with handling
Also not sure how much it'd cost.
I also think it'd improve it aesthetically, more wagon-y
@indigo coral it is just your same old crossdressing car, idk
Yeah ebay coilovers honestly aren't a bad option
They get shit cause, ya know, it's ebay, but I can only imagine how bad a luxury SUV handles
Around corners its bad, yeah 😛 In terms of steering, for what it is, its not half bad. Not too vague actually.
I mean it's no performance car, but it's perfectly good enough for a first car.
I looked up rx300 coilovers, they start at 1000$ which is a bit out of my price range haha.
Lame
I'd do it in a heartbeat if I had buckets of money, but alas I don't 😛
A lowered RX300 looks kinda like a wagon 😛
^^ and the Edge is nice imho, too bad they're just too expensive + only sold with a diesel here
They look like a wagon in the same way a lowered Forester looks like a wagon. Sorta... still an SUV tho lol
I wish we got the diesel here, I'd want them to buy it even more lol
It's a 2.0 TDCi 180hp or 2.0 TDCi Bi-Turbo 210hp
Yeah, with 295 and 332 lb-ft of torque
lol
^ it's a lowered RX300 😛
Too bad the Edge diesel is €70k or $80k USD, so nobody will buy it
That's cause it's an import in Europe
In the US it would probably start at like $35-40k
Well it's mostly because it has €20k emissions tax on it
Base price without taxes is €42k, but that's the ST-Line tho. No lower trim
But for the same price as a Edge ST-Line 2.0 TDCi, you can also get a 400hp XC60 T8
How does it go from 42k to 75k
Seems legit
Why else do you think we only drive small 1.0 EcoBoost muesli cars
Yes that too
I think the new Fiesta is cool looking, I'd buy one if they offered it. Too bad FORD IS STOPPING CAR PRODUCTION
Baka
Guess I'll go buy a Toyota 🤔 🔫
They're not stopping car production, only stopping car sales in the US 😉
Only if you can get me a 1.5L
We can, only as a ST3 tho
Dunno what that is 👍
There are 3 level's of ST trim, ST1, ST2 and ST3 (3 is the most luxurious trim). For some reason we can only order the ST3 trim
According to wikipedia there is 😂
In the Netherlands, there is not. In every other country, there is
😛
1.5 TDCi 85 or 120hp
Ah yes, netherlands strikes again
Yeah due to emissions tax it would be so expensive, nobody would buy it
Kinda funny, a few years ago they were promoting to buy small diesel cars
Now they are like
Seems legit
@stoic ledge you should thank VW and other car manufacturers for pushing diesel in a hell 😃
if they didn't cheat, diesels might have died out slowly. now because of the cheating scandal, politicians are forcing diesels out of our life quickly
this is so dumb
Yes, yes it is
@stoic ledge diesel is really good for gas milage
Run biodiesel and go around collecting free oil from restaurants
And then filter it
Double the gas milage
@stark lintel only VW. But in America that shit matters less since no one wants a diesel in the first place. We don’t have special taxes, we just have tariffs, and those apply to everything. Also, the EPA. Which will just shut cars out instead of taxing them.
But we still have big diesels here so... ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Well big diesels are good for towing
And yeah diesels get better mileage but according to some studies they polute more other gasses -> bad for the environment
Mazda Skyacyive X will be an interesting engine, combining the best of both worlds
Yeah everyone makes that argument. So you have to weigh how bad each pollutant is against each other, the corresponding output per mile/km, and then decide which is actually better
With all the emissions currently on diesels, they tend to be far and away the better choice
But personally idgaf about all that
Well according to the government diesel is bad m'kay. So they tax the hell out of it so it's not gonna be worth buying it
Sales tax is higher
Road tax is 3 times as high
Since you guys like diesels so much: wanna trade a Volvo S80 with the Yamaha V8 for a Volvo S80 DRIVe? 1.6 diesel, 115hp 😍
@stoic ledge it pollutes less if it gets better mileage
Less Co2 but more other stuff like NOx and shizzle
According to the government, a lot of bad things are good, and a lot of good things are bad, so personally I don’t really care what they say
Usage of fossil fuels is probably more important than the pollution it makes, so getting 50 mpg is nothing to laugh at
Running out of oil is not the "issue" our government is focussing on, they are only focussed on global warning
I know, so I buy a tax free car and get my fuel in a different country
(:
But what I said is the explanation lie they are telling us ;)
fiesta st

@shadow osprey only VW ? Every manufacturer got caught. VW was only the first one, and the biggest one. They caught other manufacturers too.
Like...
like FIAT Chrysler
"As part of a January 2019 settlement, Fiat Chrysler will recall and repair approximately 100,000 automobiles equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel engine having a prohibited defeat device, pay $311 million in total civil penalties to US regulators and CARB, pay $72.5 million for state civil penalties, implement corporate governance reforms, and pay $33.5 million to mitigate excess pollution. "
Yeah, FCA is garbage. I only own one because it's the only chrysler to not have a chrysler engine in it
There was almost no coverage of it in the news as far as I can remember
VW didn't sell many diesels in the states anyways. Either way their value still went up after the whole ordeal started/ended
@stark lintel lol, CARB
and since dieselgate started, pretty much all diesels even in EU fail the required levels of NOx. so that is why they are taxed through the roof now
the real joke is that the only reason for this whole dieselgate was that they didn't want to lower the service interval or cut in the storage space in the car
I wonder what the gov't did with that 30 million of "excesses pollution" money...
as they didn't want to increase the size of the AdBlue tank at expense of storage space, but at same time they wanted to keep their i think 10k mile service interval.
Also, why didn't they just test the levels of NOx if it's such a big deal
They clearly didn't seem to care about it 3 years ago
they did test, that is what was the cheating scandal about
on dyno they were less polluting than in real driving conditions
That's no fault of the manufacturer
That's like saying Dyno tuning is indicative of real world tuning
It's not
That's why a good tuner will street tune a car
Lazy practice by the EPA
It's not that
They test them on a dyno, if the car detects that it's getting emissions tested it will go in to a different mode that changes the engine management so it passes
i never thought VW made good cars anyways, they made popular and people cars but not really good ones
also i think the goverment knew about that hole cheating thing anyway in one form or another, and they don´t punish the manufactures too much because of the aftereffects
Subaru
@shadow osprey sssshhh... They didn't know, they just found out because of some college kids
Ok
*whole
@compact wing VW got fined 25billion in total, but got off relatively scott-free
Like come on
I'm not gonna lie... the Polestar 2..... looks like something straight out of the future
Assuming the future is good
I'm gonna have to say the future where car design when just wrong enough to look like poop
recently my dad got a Mitsubishi outlander hybrid electric
I feel sorry for you @charred abyss
Lol
I agree with @vital glen
Nsx
EVO !
NSX.
I vote NSX too
@vital glen it is actually a pretty cool car
depends what u want, EVO would OWN an nsx peformance wise
Maybe in a drag race and rally.
Only stock for stock in a straight line
The NSX would take the win if there were any turns
Also, he said Evo AND nsx, or the RWB. Not one of the three
Abandoned = free?
if you pass the farmer with the rifle, it's free :p
Sounds about right
The DC area actually has laws about abandoned vehicles on public property
After a certain amount of time you can take them
If the DOT doesn’t first
@charred abyss it's a Mitsubishi
Great observation @vital glen

I am so glad you could see that but that does not detract from the fact it is a decent car
^
@stoic ledge His logic is off
Ryzen is the better pick over Intel atm so 😛
But the reason why I don't like them, is because they we're bought with almost no or literally no taxes, or even given tax credit because they are "eco friendly". But then, they never plug it in and use only the gas engine.
Besides that, I've driven one, it's really heavy and it is kinda really slow. Seriously, the base 2.0 is faster
I have a 8700K but when I make fretbreaker I plan on getting a threadripper
hence the name
Threadripper
the 1920X
@stoic ledge can’t make blanket statements like that, not true
@shadow osprey ?
Your AMD statement
Well I don't know how it is at the States but over here Ryzen is a better value then their Intel equivalent over all
yep intel here in NZ is pretty expensive atm
:ohno: You drive on the wrong side of the road
Lol
@shadow osprey tell your folks to get a Tesla
@stoic ledge Better and better value are not the same thing. Everyone knows Ryzen is a better value, but you said "the better pick" which, like I said, is not always true
They'd never get a tesla lol
My dad got a hybrid-electric as part of him switching jobs
Tesla are expensive cars with cheap ass interior
^
if i buy something that's as expensive as a bmw 5 or 7 series, i don't want vw polo interior quality 😉
that said, i really like the Kia Soul EV and the Hyundai Ioniq
vw polo has better interior than a tesla though lmao
I beg to differ, having been in quite a few of them, the interior of a Tesla isn't too bad post-2014
Quite nice actually.
(2012 and 13 was a shit show for their interiors tho, I'll give you that 😂)
Model 3 is 35k before EV bonus money stuff here in the US.
Seems like a pretty good deal
no tactile buttons .... another huge disadvantage
for example open a sunroof. 99,99% of the cars got the button for that in the middle on the roof
in the model s? navigate in some menu and use a slider
wtf
Yeah I'm not really a fan of Tesla's "put everything in one screen" philosophy
Also I don't like the fact that when it has rained and you open the trunk/boot/..., everything in the back gets wet 😛
I think a touchscreen is better than 20 million different buttons making the center console a mess.
I mean, I understand your hate for the model 3's lack of buttons. But I dont think that there should be buttons for everything.
Plus, it allows for better organization
Well not everything should have their own buttons, but things like adjusting the Cruise Control, wipers, headlights, drive train mode, I really prefer physical buttons instead of doing this on a screen. Also, a dial to increase the temperature is way easier to operate while driving instead of tapping a screen.
I respect that. Elon Musk primarily did that though because he believes fully autonomous driving will happen during the Model 3's life.
I hope not, i like driving 😛
Imho the Model 3 is a fine car if you just want to get from A to B, but if you want more from a car... not really
(maybe should have added that's the impression i get from the car, haven't driven one 😛 )
The one I drove the long-range RWD
Handled fantastically
especially compared to my lexus rX 😛
Well yeah put you can't really compare those 2 😛
I've driven a number of cars, my dad's Taurus actually handles really pretty well. I honestly prefer to drive the Model 3 over a BMW i8 (The i8 was great to drive too, but was just not as... tossable as the 3)
I drove the i8 at a car show, the owner actually let me take it around for a few minutes
^ nice
I find it interesting that my dad's Taurus handles as well as it does, seeing as its a pretty big sedan. It is the SHO with the performance pack though.
Could be, could be
It's not particularly hard to provoke traction control 😂
3.5 Ecoboost will make it pretty fast
yee, 365hp is pretty dang good
Largest Ford we can get is the Fusion (Mondeo)
But always thoughth the Taurus was a good looking car
R.i.p me with 6'4"
I'm concerned that my starter flywheel is slipping in my car, it makes a funny clattery/grindy noise when I start. It happened in the last few days.
Probably gonna replace it soon.
Once the car is not cranking anymore the noise goes away and it just sounds like normal.
smack it with a hammer
probably just the starter motor not engaging correctly
Largest Ford we can get is the Fusion (Mondeo)
I have a mk3 mondeo 😄
With the 2.5l v6
It's probably not the flywheel slipping
It's most likely the starter going bad/not engaging fully/properly. Like @fossil imp said, slap it with a hammer if it goes away, its the starter
Taurus SHO's are really nice
But I'm partial to the older body styles of the 80's n 90's
Even the 70's
😄
Speaking of belts, I should change my altenator and water pump belts
At least the altenator belt is gonna be a pain
I just spent about $320 replacing the serpentine belt and the pulley that broke in half on my '02 Mercedes.
oof
@viral matrix nice! 2.5 V6 makes it a nice comfortable motorway cruiser
Torque is great
And it even has some high end power
I wish Audi sold the B6 A4 with the V6 TDI here
Looking forward to upgrading to the 3.0l ST220
my buddy has an audi A4 B7 with the 3.0tdi
270bhp/650nm
We only got the 1.8T and the 3.0 here, no diesels
Get the Mk4 with the 5 cilinder Volvo Turbo engine 😛
It's hard to find clean old Volvo wagons here
Torque is awesome, in the car itself. Torque anywhere else is...terrible. If you're dumb enough to use a cheater bar and sheer a bolt in half by accident....
It's such a gd pain.
Finding clean old Volvo's is doable, but they are always super expensive nice ones
A S40 is s Mitsubishi Charisma with a different body xD
I know
I'd love to do a full resto on an older car. Two of my neighbors right across the street have shops with full lifts in their back yard. I just don't know enough to do it.
I had the one with the renault trans too
lmao
But the S40 looks way better than the carisma
😄
:ohno:
#ShouldHaveBoughtTheNova -_-
Almost mint condition
What country is that 👀
Finland 👀
Ah didn't recognise the plates
I need....er...want to repaint my C240, took some scratch damage in hurricane Harvey.
R.I.P
It's minor stuff and I have a vial of the original paint. Somewhere.
Can't polish it out ?
Haven't tried, dumping money into too many other things with it.
My mileage reads 132k but it's actually around....51-53k. New engine.
Pulled out of identical car.
Changing that belt ain't gonna be fun
And now the bluetooth doesn't work.
What gen C240 is it?
2002
@viral matrix don't change it then 😉
I wouldn't, but it already has cracks on it
So old
The car has been sitting for long time at some point
Only had 132k km on it when I bought the thing
Cars that have been sitting a long time are always
82k miles for you 'murican folks
:P
More accurate if nothing else.
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Should change my arb links too
They're pretty worn out
common issue on mondeo's
But I suggest you change it if it has cracks already, if it snaps the engine will be ruined
My belt shred at idle after starting it....only lost like half the belt and was able to get it back on the spindles and limp it to a shop...ugh could have been so much worse.
Aaaaaah that belt
2.5 v6 has a timing chain
One of these weekends I need to do the timing belt on my RX300. Lol.
the guy we bought it from didn't do it when it was supposed to have been done, so it's overdue.
Changed the timing belt and water pump on my s40 myself
Overdue timing belts are
Set me back only 80€
I've got a timing chain so 😄
I gave my '98 Ford Explorer away in partial trade for this car because it had dual timing chains and I'd have had to pull the engine to replace the rear one.
Alternator belt was replaced last november (:
A timing belt that is only 43k miles / 75k km overdue

Luckily the water pump has a separate belt
I'd just kinda wait but I recently found out that this car has an interference engine. (The ONLY version of the 1MZ-FE that was interference -.-)
tysm vvti
All volvo engines are interference engines
That's why I did the belt when I got the car
Waiting for it to snap is never a good idea xD
^ important with chains, otherwise they csn stretch
Usually the chain tensioner doesn't get enough oil pressure if the oil gets dirty
And that's how you ruin your engine
I change mine every 10000-12000km's anyways
Oil is cheap
Inb4 the 5k miles oil change gang returns xD
I don't drive much so I just do it once every 6 months to keep it clean, if I do anything right in this damn car it's fresh oil.
Then 5k isn't too stupid
I changed the oil in my bike every 6000km's
Mainly because I beat the hell out of it
I do it once a year which is about 15k km's
Ugh I can't see myself on a bike.
Did mine at 115k, now 119k (:
Used to drive 64km commute every day
I'd drop faster than a $10k processor in Linus' hands.
Got loads of miles
I've been riding a bike since I was 6, gotta love bikes
😄
Looking forward to buying something on the upcomming summer
I love the idea of being on one but I kinda love speed, and I know myself....I'd get stupid.
Lmao no
xD
So...you didn't need a playing card in the spokes?
😛
After that I got an 110cc cheapo pit bike
Currently I don't have anything else than the car
6'4" 😛
It's not my fault @stoic ledge is this golden Adonis of the gods. I'm happy when my head doesn't touch the roof of my car as it is.
I know that feeling xD
Meanwhile I'm driving the smallest car
I don't like small cars tho
(not really but not far from it)
Big cars are comfortable
Why am I picturing someone 5' tall driving a semi down the highway without a trailer?
It's under 4 meters xD
||3.999 meter||
Mine's 4.7 meters
It's not the size that matters 😏
How does it go....
It's not the size of the boat, but the motion of the ocean.....yeah and it takes a long time to row to England in a row boat.
I should really stop paying attention to Discord while drinking. -_-
😄
😂
it doesn't turn out too well
Well could be worse xD
Oh?
going back to earlier, our Explorer Sport actually had to have significant warranty work done (to the tune of 9 thousand USD) because the timing chain stretched and damaged things.
(Glad it was under warranty)
R.i.p
Seems to be all good now
First symptom was vibration/bumpy idle but it wasn't overly bad, then the CEL came on and it would hitch and shudder in acelleration
where it'd have power then it'd cut out for a sec then go again
So we took it to the dealer since it was still under warranty and they fixed it.
Powertrain warranty ends this summer though 😱
Is it a common issue for those engines?
Somewhat, it's not super widespread (see: RX300 oil sludging) but it's not exactly unheard of
I use synthetics to help avoid the oil sludging though^
Get a Carmax, bumper-to-bumper warranty®
Exactly 😛
Doug Demuro's range rover was... the epitome of old range rovers 😛
What, like 20k in repairs?
Holy shit
@indigo coral wait your RX300 still has a powertrain warranty?
ah there we go
Picked up a 1993 bmw 325i getting into that for a while for a project oc is set in the side for now
really love that body style went for a two door
Ehh, I find a lot of modern cars cool imo.
Maybe because you guys aren't open minded about new cars....
I am
but older cars generally feel better
A 2002 Jetta TDI with like 80hp is way more fun to drive than a 2009 Jetta TDI with 140hp
Without driving a variety of cars it's hard to understand, but older cars generally connect to the road differently than new cars
Well you feel more connected to everything
sort of
it's hard to explain
With the 2002 Jetta I know exactly where it is and what it's going to do
it does exactly what you want
It's hard to tell where the 2009 is and the ECU interferes with everything and it feels weird
I mean, that's just one model of car though.
@carmine summit you're also comparing hydraulic vs EPS
I actually like the mk5 chassis, but the mk4 does feel more connected
@vital glen what's wrong?
@shadow osprey That is a matter of opinion
One that clearly the majority of this forum shares 😂
the majority of people also believe rwd is better in performance cars than awd, doesn't mean they are right lol
I don’t remember saying that
i never said you 😛
Also the general argument is fwd, not AWD
But I will say there’s probably a reason almost all cars from GT and up are RWD
yeah cheaper to build lol
You think money is an issue on a formula 1 car?
I think you’ll understand if I don’t believe that
to be honest i have no experience with formula 1 cars so i can't comment
Well they’re RWD
Street != performance
it did with my cars 😃
Ok well you failed to specify the application of said “performance car”
lol yes i did lol
If you’re just dragging of a light then no shit
i never street raced
You said “the majority of people believe RWD is better than AWD in performance Cars”
raced the drag sure lol
Not on the street
every time i went toe to toe with an awd vehicle i lost
fwd and rwd
they could just simply put the power to the road better wit 4 tires
with
What were you doing
what was i driving?
drag strip
No shit
clarify what you want to know
Where tf you raced, that’s what
You can’t just say AWD is better and not say under what circumstances
i raced on a drag strip in the city i was in, with a legit quarter mile track
Cool. For most street cars an AWD will usually win, assuming power levels are similar
lit, marked and timed
That’s just obvious
it's funny
So why are top fuel cars RWD
my fwd was manual and even though it wasn't nearly as powerful as my rwd, nor as nice to drive, there are days i miss it just for the fun of it lol
What about funny cars? Pro stock? Pro mod? Pro street? Alcohol? Even top diesel dragsters are RWD
I'd say it all breaks down to money
Well I’d say you’re wrong
The fastest drag cars have been RWD basically since the NHRA was founded. I would say you have to argue the point you’re making because mine is already proven, given that a lot of guys who know a lot more than me determined to run RWD in their cars
i'm not arguing your point. You are right in the statement that all those groups are running rwd cars
I know you’re not arguing my point... I said argue yours
What do you mean by it breaks down to money
For the average joe or top fuel?
Oh good news! I found out that the guy we bought my car from had the timing belt done, so its actually not old 😄
@stoic ledge
i'm speaking from my experience on a non professional level that awd has been better in comparison to the vehicles I have owned. When i have raced modified evo's and sti (most common awd here) in both my SRT4 (340ish hp, at the engine never dynod, and SRT8 500 engine 368.1 at the wheel) i could never get off the line or catch them due to the fact they could dig in and push with all 4 wheels
and i think it would come down to money cause a rwd would be cheaper to maintain and rebuild than awd when you have rebuild and maintain that gear a lot more than a normal car
Yeah, I’m not disagreeing with the first part
For the average joe, the best way to decrease your 60ft is put the truck in 4wd lol
As for the second part, I’m assuming that refers more to racing teams with real money, right?
So i would put money on the chance that someone has already done a cost-benefit analysis of not only the maintenance of each system, but also the drivetrain losses on each, the complexity of each, and how much of a difference it would really make.
My guess is they decided RWD was better
Top fuel teams are worth hundreds of millions of dollars each
and you are more than likely right i'm sure they have done all the research on it. you get get no argument from me
on that point lol
So then we don’t disagree about anything
lol
😂 glad we settled it
i actually never stated anything about professional / non professional or awd / rwd
you said
Modern cars are cool, but older cars are cooler
thats the one i was disagreeing with
we just went out on this tangent lol
You started the whole AWD is better than RWD. Don’t make me copy pasta your text
lol
Don’t even try to play that card
lol
i wasn't planning on going on that one
originally i was planning on comparing my srt8 to my cousin's car he was rebuilding lol
What car is that
Also SRT-4s are pretty cool. They get a lot of hate for some reason... probably the engine blowing up a lot or something
Got any pics?
it was some 1960s something with no power steering, no power brakes, but made a lot of noise and was heavy as hell, made my 300c look light lol
they get a lot of hate cause dodge didn't maintain the parts for them due to their contract with Mercedes ending
and things like the clutch blowing up with no replacements made
Ah hard to find parts. Rip
and then the throwout berrings were made by a company that was contracted to mercededs and when the dodge contract ended they stoped making throwout berrings for the car
Didn’t know it was a MB venture. Thought it was an in-house dodge thing, though I’m not surprised it isn’t
nope, i ended up blowing my clutch after 30k km
it sat at the dealership for 2 and half months for the throwout berring alone
sec let me find the pics
the srt 4 with or without the LED i wired into the frame
do you want to see the LEDs in the daylight on night time, both show how overkill i did it lol
Oh it was a caliber
