Car (2000 Chrysler 300M) wouldn't start with the battery reading 12.4v a few days ago. Jump forward to today, had a friend jumpstart my car. Everything ran normally for around 30 mins, I was reading 14.4v with the car running. At around 30 mins, the car abruptly shut off. No lights or anything would come on except for the oil pressure light that comes on when you turn the key. Couldn't get the dome lights or anything else to come on.
Checked the voltage again, got 5.5v off the battery.

Any ideas? I'm thinking maybe the battery is completely fucked and won't take a charge.

When my friend was jumpstarting my car, we gave it a solid 5-10 mins beforehand and it was doing the same shit as last time. (Lights came on perfectly, but when I tried to start the engine, the lights would dim when the starter tried to go, but the starter wasn't getting enough to do anything.) It wouldn't start until I had my friend hold their RPM a bit higher.

gray fox
#

@short slate I always liked the 300M is just came out at the wrong time. The LH platform was suppose to be adapted to RWD for the 2000 model year but the 99 charger concept on the LHX platform changed that since they where spending money on making a new RWD chassis and a new power plant. So they just kept the LH fwd for the last 4 years of it's life since the LHX (later LX) was in design

gray fox
short slate
#

The 300M, aside from being a pain in the ass to repair, and the fairly large size, is a fairly nice car

stoic ledge
#

Found it a bit strange looking to be honest

gray fox
#

The Special is a pretty fun car to drive. 255 hp up from 234 and 258 lb-ft of torque

#

Would have been better with the planned RWD and 5 speed

#

@stoic ledge it was very different but I likes the LH atyling for the most part. Stuff like the intrepid and Stratus where bland but the LHS and 300M looked nice and the Stratus R/T and Avenger looked good

#

Special was also suppose to become a Dual Cam as apposed to a single

#

And get one extra vale per cylinder but again the development of the hemi made that pointless

stoic ledge
#

Ooh I like the look of that one

#

Looks a bit like a Mitsubishi if you ask me

gray fox
#

@stoic ledge it's an eclipse so yeah

stoic ledge
#

Ah is it? I didn't know that

#

Prefer the newer one tbh (:

gray fox
#

Though it's just the chassis. Drive train and suspension are all mopar

#

The 2.7 makes more power then the 4 banger in the eclipse

#

Also we where going to get an Intrepid R/T wagon in 2004...take a guess why that didn't happen. :)

stoic ledge
#

Because US manufacturers almost never make a wagon ? xD

gray fox
#

No

#

04 was when the LX chassis was unvield at the Detroit auto show with the hemi powered 300C and Magnum R/T

#

We got a better wagon

stoic ledge
#

Ah, that makes sense

gray fox
#

The early 2000s where a big time for Chrysler. The second gen LH only lasted 4 years while the first gen lasted a decade. Hey decided to scrap the LHX (RWD cloud cars) and take some of the design and make a new chassis called the LX

stoic ledge
#

The even sold cars here in the early 2000's

gray fox
#

I know the LH was made with the 10 meter rule (that's the name right) in mind

#

Same with the LX

#

Issue was diamler had no real desire to push them in Europe

stoic ledge
#

Actually not even that bad in terms of sales number's, about the same as Jaguar/Dacia/Mitsubishi here today

#

10 meter rule ?

gray fox
#

Being a certain length

#

Let me look it up. It's the reason alot of American cars aren't sold their

stoic ledge
#

Okay

gray fox
#

Sales for the magnum

#

2004 39,217
2005 52,487
2006 40,095
2007 30,256

#

And 07 was when they announced the 08 face lift and then the cancellation

#

Hardly the sales flop Diamler portrayed it as

#

04 was only a half year as well

#

It sold about as many units as the entire Plymouth division did it's last year

stoic ledge
#

Oof

gray fox
#

It was axed cause the Diamler brass hated the LX they saw it as stealing entry level E class sales givne you got more car for the same price

#

Like why get a V6 e class when you.can get a Fully optioned V8 300C that looks better

#

And cost almost 10K less

stoic ledge
#

Yeah they were making cars to rival their own cars

#

Not Smart Dailmer, not Smart

gray fox
#

Actually they made money either way

#

Issue was diamler flet they OWNED Chrysler not that they murgered or that Chrysler owned them

#

Cause let's be real. Diamler was on the verge of bankruptcy before the merger

#

They needed it bad

stoic ledge
#

Tbh I don't know, as I was very little around the year 2000

#

xD

gray fox
#

Like if they haddend merged Benz would have been dead by 05-06

stoic ledge
#

That could be very true, I've got no idea tbh

gray fox
#

They mereged under the notion that Chrysler was gonna keep making cheap FWD cars like they had been that would threaten the Benz brand

stoic ledge
#

And Mercedes kept building cars which rust while standing next to it

#

(:

gray fox
#

The merger happened in 97 right as Chrysler was talking about making RWD prefomace cars again

#

That scared diamler

#

@stoic ledge and broke down the minute the warranty expired

#

A rwd 300M special with a manual was an E-class fighter

stoic ledge
#

I'd buy one xD

gray fox
#

They where happy when that talk ended but got even more scared when it became a RWD V8 300C

stoic ledge
#

(if i was able to buy a car back then)

#

They split up in 2007 🤔

gray fox
#

08

stoic ledge
#

Ah, then the dutch wiki is wrong :p

gray fox
#

stoic ledge
#

#

Newer look cheap

stoic ledge
#

The Special trims looks pretty good if i'm honest

#

I don't think the newer ones look bad, but I wouldn't buy one

gray fox
#

@stoic ledge the non special isn't as pretty

#

The funny thing the M and the C where on dealer floors side by side for a short time

stoic ledge
#

300C was also sold here... But most often when you see them now, they are converted to a limousine

#

Often in pink

gray fox
#

I don't think the M had much of a chance when that happens

stoic ledge
#

Yeah C > M anyday

gray fox
stoic ledge
#

Looks cool.. but looks rather small in the back due to the sloping roof, or isn't it ?

#

Maybe looks deceive ?

gray fox
#

It's not. Back seats have good space and the cargo area is big

#

The high belt line makes the roof look lower.

stoic ledge
#

Probably the belt line indeed

gray fox

gray fox
#

But that is cheap

#

Like a grand can get you a nice base

#

4K will get the pictured special

stoic ledge
#

01 Civic is a sedan probably ?

#

Don't know if they sold the Hatchback over there

#

Get a Civic Aerodeck xD

gray fox
#

@stoic ledge not comfortablely

#

Also if he wants "race car" and comfortable get an Acura Legend

stoic ledge
#

Get a Buick Park Avenue Ultra (:

gray fox
#

I mean that's not a bad idea. It is pretty quick and comfortable but you could get a Buick Lacrosse Super instead

#

Just as comfortable but has a LS4

stoic ledge
#

Aren't those more expensive ?

gray fox
#

No. Like 4-5k

stoic ledge
#

Wow that's not bad

#

Cheaper then my Corsa 1.2

#

xD

gray fox
#

And you get 303 HP

#

The Lacrosse is kinda ugly though

#

GM stood no chance. They launched the same year 2004 and no one even rembers the V8 body's aside from the Grand Prix GXP and the Monte Carlo SS.

#

The Impala SS and Lacrosse Super are pretty much forgotten

stoic ledge
#

Yeah rhe Lacrosse looks much older

gray fox
#

I remember seening them at the 04 Chicago auto show

#

No one was talking about the V8 W body's. The LX stole the show for he domestics. I remember you had to wait like an hour to sit in a 300 or Magnum

stoic ledge
#

Yeah I can understand

#

Tbh the Buick looks more like a 2000, 2001 ? Not a 2004

gray fox
#

@vital glen Brit boy has no taste

gray fox
#

@vital glen how does it feel knowing that it took Chrysler to bring back not only style but the V8 to American cars

#

Powered by the 4.6 shitstar and the later v model the 4.4 blow shitstar. Both of which the 5.7 and 6.4 hemi walked all over despite the LX weighing about 300-400 pounds more.

shadow osprey
#

@gray fox How does it feel to know that Crown vics used V8s for their entire production run, and that Ford was never bailed out by the government (not not once, but not twice), and that Ford is the only one of the big 3 to have sold a pony car each year continuously since it's release?

stoic ledge
#

@gray fox Ah I tought you said the Deville was an all new for 2005, frankly I had no idea so I believed you 😂 Turns out it's a 1999/2000 😛 STS looks waaaay more modern, and pretty good if i'm honest

north glen
#

@stoic ledge the mx5 is more about the driving feel and agility over power/performance

#

going around corners fast is more exciting then going fast in a straight line imo

stoic ledge
#

Yes I know, but I've driven a mates MX5 NA around a track (Zolder, Belgium), and imho it needs more power

gray fox
#

@stoic ledge well while the DeVille was 1999/2000 that was actually a DTS which while the "same" car was marketed as new cause that's a smart idea. Also yeah the STS looks a lot nicer it's still not as nice as the 300. Also that limey made N* should have been aborted back in 93

gray fox
#

Given that the STS and CTS just launched on the rear drive Sigma Chassis I'm surprised GM didn't phase out the ancient W-body and use it for the Lacrosse, Impala, Monte Carlo, Grand Prix. Would have been a smart moved and probably help sell the cars

odd talon
#

@gray fox maybe. But during those years RWD fell out of fashion. Ford and GM seemed to be trying to mimic whatever Toyota and Honda were up to.

#

I should clarify. RWD seemed to be less prevalent on regular family vehicles.

#

Especially since FWD removed the need for a transmission tunnel and therefore improved interior packaging

#

Additionally FWD was better in snow for most people.

gray fox
#

True but trying to pack the 5.7 LS4 into the W-body was a shit idea

#

Also using unequal length drive shafts on all but the Lacrosse Super was another genius move

odd talon
#

Oh, I'm not defending those decisions.

#

But the LS4 in a w-body is kind of cool.

vital glen
#

gray fox
vital glen

stoic ledge
#

@gray fox GM often maked some wierd choices. Look at Opel, losing money for over 20. Now PSA (Peugeot/Citroen) bought the company, and within a year they were already making a profit. How bad is GM's management team if PSA can do something in a year what GM couldn't in 20 years?

odd talon
#

@stoic ledge Horrible.

#

Look at their issues with Saab.

#

Bought an interesting company, then ruined it.

#

At least GM makes the LS.

stoic ledge
#

Latest Saabs were just Opel's... With many different parts on it making completely different thus too expensive

#

But yeah really sad Saab didn't make it

gray fox

vital glen
#

@gray fox 'cuz they can dew it 'dem selves with some goo gone and some shiny silver lettering

gray fox
#

Yeah no

#

They get confused when you tell them it's not just an engine swap it's a full power train swap from trans to diff, and new shocks, sway bars (adding sways in the SE's case) and brakes as well

stoic ledge
#

No way changing to a waaaay more powerful engine needs more mods

Dude, that OT-64 SKOT looks like BEAST

warm sparrow
#

it's cheap af

stoic ledge
#

@warm sparrow I suggest trading in your 307 for that

vital glen
#

@stoic ledge speaking to someone who dailys a h1

#

The hmmwv gets worse milage

stoic ledge
#

@vital glen How bad ? 4 MPG ?

vital glen
#

I am getting 15mpg on the highway

#

12 in the city

stoic ledge
#

That's not that bad, I expected worse tbh

vital glen
#

Though, apparently I have heard that with a turbo you can get like 20-25

#

And, Humvees get 10

#

And 7

stoic ledge
#

20-25 😮 That's amazing

vital glen
#

I get higher than average fuel economy from my h1 because I got some really inflated tires

#

It's at 60-65psi

stoic ledge
#

converting to bar

#

Ah is 4.1-4.5 bar

#

Damn

#

That's alot

vital glen
#

Tire is rated for 20-70psi

stoic ledge
#

Pretty sure my tires won't hold at those pressures

vital glen
#

1.38 bar to 4.8bar

#

They are heavy duty tires

stoic ledge
#

Understandable

#

A lot of weigth, rough conditions

vital glen
#

I drop them to 2bar on sand, 3bar offroading and 4.1bar highway

#

And because internal air compressor system

#

It takes no time at all

stoic ledge
#

Yeah those systema are nice

#

I don't even have TPMS

#

I've got them at 2.4 and 2.1 bar i think ? So 35 and 30 psi

fathom socket
#

I drive a 96 f250 7.3 diesel and it gets 22 wherever, but the back spings are so stiff the whole thing bounces like youre in a permanent bouncy castle

#

ford did not make theese in mind of light loads

stoic ledge
#

Isn't that with most truck ? They ride better with something in the back / while towing a trailer ?

fathom socket
#

not all of em

#

ive driven a handful of lighter duty trucks with empty beds and they werent so bad

#

like a f150 single cab and a stock toyota tacoma

#

at least here in the states a lot of light duty trucks never see dirt

#

im just glad i have a secondary car while im re doing the interior of the f250,

stoic ledge
#

And what car is that ?

fathom socket
#

01 v70 xc

#

I picked it up with a lot of small issues, and a bad brake sys

#

replaced the lines to the calipers, master and booster,

#

other stuff was a evap purge solenoid, cam sensor, upper motor mount, plugs and coils, vvt solenoid, i feel like there was other stuff but id have to check my matinence folder

stoic ledge
#

Lol

#

Nice

#

Small list

#

xD

fathom socket
#

not as bad as some cars ive worked on

#

the all aluminum bosch v8s in the discos gave me back problems

stoic ledge
#

But once sorted, they are nice comfortable cars

fathom socket
#

volvos? most definitley

stoic ledge
#

Yeah the Volvo

fathom socket
#

the p2 is one of the last gens before gm took over, and theyre super smooth

#

and most of the stuff is easy to get to

#

i mean the oil pump you dont even have to drop the pan to get

stoic ledge
#

Wait P2 ?

fathom socket
#

yeah thats the chassis model

stoic ledge
#

Ah wow didn't know

fathom socket
#

yeah, what do you drive?

stoic ledge
#

But then.. before GM took over ? GM had nothing to do with Volvo

#

Uhm 2012 Corsa

fathom socket
#

gm bought out volvo at one point

stoic ledge
#

Wasn't that Ford ?

fathom socket
#

i might be thinking saab

#

it was one or the other

stoic ledge
#

Saab was GM

fathom socket
#

yeah, youre probably right on ford/volvo

stoic ledge
#

I was confused xD

fathom socket
#

but the general ease of repair definitley took a steep downhill tumble in the mid 00s

stoic ledge
#

But they are safe when you drive then into a wall 😉

fathom socket
#

always have been, always will

#

but good lord they are not cheap anymore to fix or buy

stoic ledge
#

Never were, never will

fathom socket
#

hmm not really

#

the p2 for me has been decently cheap for a car that runs, drives and stops well and has good a/c

#

i mean i paid way under market value for it

#

and here in the states they dont go for too much, so a good one can be had for a decent number

#

especially higher mile older models

stoic ledge
#

Yeah really high milers go for cheap

fathom socket
#

yeah around the 200k mark

stoic ledge
#

Low/normal keep their value, IF well maintained

fathom socket
#

most do, even high meilage ones if well kept dont loose too much off market value

stoic ledge
#

I know a guy with a V90, almost 700k km (which is ±400k miles ? And he sold it I thought 5k 2 days ago

fathom socket
#

what year?

stoic ledge
#

€5k that is

#

1997 if i'm not wrong

#

Lemme check

fathom socket
#

must have been really clean

stoic ledge
#

Yes 1997

#

Yeah it was a nice one

#

I've got a pic somewere

fathom socket
#

nice!

stoic ledge
#

You wouldn't say it has done that many miles

fathom socket
#

thats well cared for

#

hella sweet

#

also has v70 rims looks like

stoic ledge
#

But there are V90's with 250k km (150k miles) for sale for €15k 😂

#

Yeah those were of a V70 if I recall correct

#

Looks super nice under a V90 imho

fathom socket
#

they do look nice!

#

im personally a fan of a smaller rim taller tire

#

ie: the v70 xc called to me

stoic ledge
#

V70 XC did have smaller wheels stock

#

So did the V90

#

It depends on the car... Those larger rims under a V90 give it a more modern look

#

V70 XC has those 16" 6-spoke rims ?

fathom socket
#

yea

#

and high ground clearance which is nice

vital glen
#

@fathom socket got to get the lift kit

fathom socket
#

@vital glen no need, its plenty high as is

magic arrow
#

my actual daily is an T8 XC90 @vital glen @fathom socket

#

but i miss older volvos, the new Sensus system is terrible

fathom socket

reasons to keep the p2s and older alive

shadow osprey
#

@stoic ledge You'd be surprised what a clean wagon will sell for to the right person here in the US. Dunno where that was but still

fathom socket
#

a clean 01 xc70 with all options and low miles will go for 6k or more

#

mine is worth 4500 as it is

#

even with the door ding from getting backed into at the local kroger

#

i also live in HIPSTER TOWN

#

anything volvo, land rover, or mercedes has a inflated price here

I'd like to know how it compares to the mk4

Also how much of it is BMW vs Toyota

reasons i dont buy new

wheat hatch
#

@odd talon Well interior wise it's bmw

odd talon
#

wheat hatch
#

and the platform is going to be comparable to the Z4 if i did understand correctly

odd talon
#

yeah

wheat hatch
#

r.i.p legacy

odd talon
#

this doesn't really feel like an MK5

#

the MK4 just felt special

#

even at launch

#

this just doesn't

wheat hatch
#

It feels more like a GT86 or something along those lines

odd talon
#

GT86+

#

that won't sell

because its not a used brown wagon with manual

stoic ledge
#

@shadow osprey probably the same as here, good maintaned go for a lot, otherwise they are worthless

#

@magic arrow XC90 T8, nice ! Pic ? 😉

Most XC90's here are T8's because they are cheaper then both the D5 and T5. T6 isn't even sold here

it's da boi MK

stoic ledge

About the Supra: €65k will be €86k here GWseremePeepoGGERS

wheat hatch

😮

stoic ledge

Jeeeej It's MK GWseremePeepoGGERS GWseremePeepoHappy

wheat hatch
#

I'm just sad that the interior even had to be BMW

#

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the BMW interior, but I had hoped that they would at least have their own touch on it... 😦

shadow osprey
#

The mk5 isn't a successor though, that's the only real reason it doesn't feel like a mk5. Cause it's not a mk5 lol

#

It's just a cash grab at the name

#

We were talking about it on the forums

stoic ledge
#

Yeah it's all just BMW parts

shadow osprey
#

It's a BMW with a Toyota Badge

wheat hatch
#

^+1

shadow osprey
#

Which is why I don't like it lol

#

Good thing I'm not in the market

wheat hatch
#

The formula is in their archives, but they can't be bothered to dig it up... 😦

#

Now MK4 prices will Skyrocket (maybe)

shadow osprey
#

I wouldn't say skyrocket

wheat hatch
shadow osprey
#

they'll go up a bit no doubt

#

but that's just cause of the initial cupcake phase

#

Then everyone will remember they're not in their mid-life crisis anymore and it'll steady out

#

But I can sure as hell kiss my dreams goodbye lol

wheat hatch
stoic ledge
#

They are gonna sell it with a 2.0 T too 😛

#

As it turns out, the Supra 3.0T only has €15k of emissions-tax, so it will be €80k instead of the €85k I stated earlier (: (: (:

wheat hatch
#

That's...

#

That's still terrible

stoic ledge
warm sparrow
#

New supra is on sale ?

#

Let me grab my credit card so i don't buy it because It's too expensive, not very good looking and the old supra mkIV is muuuch better

#

Oh and a little detail, i don't really have 85K

#

In fact i strictly don't have 85K

#

Not even 30

#

Or 20

shadow osprey
#

The real fact is... It will never be as good as a MK4 simply due to the trans not being able to hold 1200hp stock like the V160

warm sparrow
#

Nothing will ever be as good as old japanese cars

#

This time is done

wheat hatch

Old JDM cars were, and still are, legendary...

Yes

But the time cars where really good is done

wheat hatch
stoic ledge

Oh they've got pricing on their website I see now: €81.995 for the base model here (: (:

€62.900 in Germany, no pricing on French sites, nor the American website

#

But yeah, we've got a €19k price premium (: (: (+30%)

honest yarrow
#

so im getting my first car in 9 months and im wondering what descrete mods i could do to a subaru imprezza 2019-2020 model

odd talon
#

@warm sparrow But much of it is about the myth.

#

In the 90s information was rare and that just added to the mythology.

#

Yes, the mk4 Supra's engine and trans can be modified to make a lot of power.

#

But BMW's N54 in some ways is the modern-ish variant.

#

@honest yarrow Don't mod it at all.

#

Not at first anyway.

stoic ledge
#

Just some nice rims, preferably OEM's and keep it that way

#

Or add things like a fluffy pink steeringwheel cover and hang some dices on your mirror

fathom socket
#

@honest yarrow leave it as is

odd talon
#

As the car and you get older

#

there are minor things you can play with on the cheap

#

ARB (anti roll bars), suspension, brakes, brake fluid

#

But the car stock is pretty well sorted

#

learn to drive first, if you're young

#

pulling the abs fuse is also a fun mod. (not for regular use obviously)

stoic ledge
#

Brand new car as a first car GWsoraeThenkung

odd talon
#

I had that

#

I still have it

#

11 years out

stoic ledge
#

How the f*** can you afford that ?

odd talon
#

?

stoic ledge
#

How can someone afford a brand new car as their first car ?

odd talon
#
  1. parents can help
  2. auto loans make it affordable
#

usually the first one though

stoic ledge
odd talon
#

but a bunch of my friends used loans or started businesses when they were young

#

none of this is impossible, really

#

its a ~$20,000 purchase not 2mm

stoic ledge
#

Yeah I know, but people around me were declaring me crazy for buying a car of "just" 4.5 years old

odd talon
#

depends on where you grow up

#

but there are advantages to giving a new driver a new car

#

much less to go wrong

#

as the car ages it might have problems, and new drivers aren't attuned to that

#

if I had a kid driving, I'd try to get them a new economy car

#

or a CPO

stoic ledge
#

I don't know much parents which can buy their kids a brand new car tbh

#

Actually only know 1 guys

#

Whose parents have got a S65 AMG LWB

#

20 now

#

Yeah it's kinda hard doing that around here

#

Just wait brb in 10 minutes

#

shadow osprey
#

Everyone around me condemns me for buying cars that are 15+ years old. Sorry I don't like much made after 2002 lol

#

I bought the cleanest truck I could find for the price I paid, and everyone was like "wow your trucks so old"

#

Yeah, and it'll be here long after you wrap yours around a tree

warm sparrow
#

That's not Europe @stoic ledge .... People are very different and it's not thé sale price

#

I understand you, i am like "wut" Just like you when i see that

#

They like having debts for their entre life

stoic ledge
#

@warm sparrow Yeah I know, but I don't like heaving debts xD Also, when you've got a lone for a car, it's really hard to get a mortgage for a house, or it's just really low

#

And Cereal I feel 'ya, only problem I had was that most older cars on LPG were just in really bad shape, because most of them were run on the cheap in the last years of their lifes. So I bougth a more recent, well maintained one ;)

carmine summit
#

Old stuff is good

odd talon
#

New stuff is good too

#

I like it alll

carmine summit
#

When it comes to having an affordable daily, old stuff is the best

#

stuff goes wrong but fixing it is cheap

odd talon
#

Like, I'd want a new-ish economy car

#

like a Nissan Leaf from 2019

carmine summit
#

I can't afford stuff like that lol

odd talon
#

fair

carmine summit
#

first car's gonna be pretty inexpensive yet reliable and fuel efficient

#

just gotta put an engine together cause the one that's in it jumped timing

stoic ledge
#

Wow Leaf is already considered as a economy car ? 😂 A base one is more expensive then the average car here 😂

odd talon
#

Even a used 2015 leaf is a good buy

#

and those are about 10k

#

No ADAS

#

but still good

stoic ledge
#

Range is just **

odd talon
#

I don't think its that big of a problem for a commuter car

stoic ledge
#

And the new ones with just air cooled batteries 🤦

odd talon
#

that's why I said the 2019

#

they are finally going to active thermal management

#

The Chevy Volt might be a good value too, but I'm always wary of GM build quality

#

at least on anything that isn't a truck

stoic ledge
#

Really ? I thought the new large one still had crappy cooling

#

Chevrolet Volt / Opel Ampera-E is a pretty good

#

2015 Leaf has just 90 miles of real world range, that's enough for me on normal days but not always

carmine summit
#

electric cars still aren't quite worth it where I am

#

I live in a rural area so commutes are fairly far

stoic ledge
#

Yeah then you'll need stuff like a long range Tesla, i-Pace and so on

odd talon
#

ah I was wrong

carmine summit
#

those are expensive

odd talon
#

no active thermals

#

yikes

carmine summit
#

I need a 1992 Volkswagen Jetta Diesel

stoic ledge
#

That's the biggest issue I've got with the Leaf

odd talon
#

I'm looking a VW expert

#

someone willing to do some hackery

stoic ledge
#

Just VAGCOM Everything

odd talon
#

haha not just VCDS work

#

I'd like to retrofit a haldex system into a VW T4

#

I think the Haldex controller should be able to be run in standalone

stoic ledge
#

Yeah I'm not gonna be able to help you with that xD

carmine summit
#

Interesting idea

#

research time

odd talon
#

Yeah so I think its possible with some custom driveshafts

#

but I'm not sure how to execute

#

I have the chassis

stoic ledge
#

You want to convert it to a T4 Syncro ?

odd talon
#

No, not a synchro, but a haldex from a t5 or audi

#

the problem with the syncro system is that none of the syncro trans work with the vr6

stoic ledge
#

Yeah I wasn't sure, that's why I asked

odd talon
#

yeah np 😃

carmine summit
#

if it's already a syncro then you just need a subframe to hang the diff and driveshafts

odd talon
#

fwd

carmine summit
#

also you can probably get a trans from a VR6 Passat Syncro

#

the mounts for the rear subframe might already be there even on the 2wd version, I'd recommend doing a bunch of research on T4 forums

odd talon
#

that's the problem!

#

I've been on there for years

#

nobody has done anything similar to my knowledge

carmine summit
#

I know it's been done on MK2 Golf Syncros

odd talon
#

so here's the deal, my t4 has the vr6 (axk), ESP (stability control), and the 01M automatic

#

I want to convert it to either the 5 speed gearbox from a euro T4

#

but that STILL doesn't give me syncro

#

so that's why I wanted to go haldex

#

I know the mk2 guys did it

#

but not sure how to get around the brake controller issue

#

if you know anyone, I'm all ears.

carmine summit
#

there's some interesting info in this thread

odd talon
#

thinking about contacting Bisimoto

carmine summit
odd talon
#

@carmine summit this is part of the problem

#

i have a van with ESP

carmine summit
#

just get rid of it lol

odd talon
#

and none of the guys that have swapped in a trans has got the coding to work

#

ugh, ideally i'd keep it

carmine summit
#

the Haldex will take care of traction for you

odd talon
#

I know a BMW shop that can help me with that so not too worried

#

yeah true

#

but intelligent braking is nice

#

EBD especially

#

prevents dive

#

(EBD is electronic brakeforce distribution)

#

in case anyone was wondering

#

also that conversion is using the existing 01m

#

There's a guy that got a passat drivetrain working

#

i'll find the link

carmine summit
#

couldn't you just use a T5 transmission and get someone who's good with a VAG com to program it like a T5? should be pretty similar

odd talon
#

@carmine summit I've been looking for 2 years

#

Like literally 2 years

carmine summit
#

yeah I know that feeling

odd talon
#

Check that out

carmine summit
#

Audi TT transmission

odd talon
#

yeah

#

but its also about finding a shop crazy enough to put it in

#

and code it

carmine summit
#

Putting it in is easy

#

making the software work is the hard part

odd talon
#

i found one guy in atlanta, but we're not sure of the cost

#

because the cost has been $4000 (ok) to $75,000

#

like, that's a huge range

carmine summit
#

I like mechanical stuff

odd talon
#

i'm totally with you, if I could get a vr6 trans from an audi tt or vw r32 and bolt it up

#

i'd do it

carmine summit
#

doing swaps and stuff is fun but computers get in the way of stuff alot

odd talon
#

i mean i'm at the point where I might just throw out the stability control computer

#

and put in a standalone mk60

#

but idk how to do that conversion

#

i know bmw guys have done it

#

for the e46 bmw m3

carmine summit
#

just get some decent tires and get rid of the stability control

odd talon
#

but know anyone willing to put in an r32/tt trans into an old vw van?

#

dm if necessary

carmine summit
#

most mechanics should be able to do that

#

just find one you trust

odd talon
#

Ah yes, but few will dedicate shop time to this

#

I've called MANY

#

i've been outright refused

carmine summit
#

just say you need a transmission replacement

odd talon
#

i did

carmine summit
#

and you already have a good transmission to go in

odd talon
#

they refused to work on it

#

even to do an 01M swap

carmine summit
#

hm

odd talon
#

i'm serious

carmine summit
#

got any space to do it yourself?

shadow osprey
#

That’s cause it’s custom. I’d imagine it’s not a very common swap

#

If it were an LS and like a 4L80E then they might be a little more willing

#

You’ll have to take it to a custom shop anyways

vital glen
#

and watch them fuck it up once or thrice

odd talon
#

@shadow osprey it’s still not ultra custom though

#

Like it still bolts up

#

No adapters needed

shadow osprey
#

¯_(ツ)_/¯

#

If someone asked me that I would say no lol

odd talon
#

I couldn’t even get ships to do the oem swap

#

Shops*

shadow osprey
#

How do you know it bolts up

odd talon
#

Forums/both are vr6 engines

#

Checked around vwvortex etc

#

Obviously a Haldex swap is a bit nutty. But I figured a 1:1 trans swap would be okay

shadow osprey
#

An R32 does not use a VR6, last time I checked

#

I could be wrong

odd talon
#

The 2004-2008 models do

#

As does the Touareg, cayenne, and q7

#

Displacement is at 3.2 vs 2.8

shadow osprey
#

Oh you're talking about a golf R

odd talon
shadow osprey
#

tf you think an R32 means to 90% of the world

odd talon
#

We are talking about VWs above so context matters

#

But yes. Not a GTR motor lol

shadow osprey
#

All you said was "know anyone willing to put in an r32/tt trans into an old vw van?" I read that as R32 twin turbo

#

¯_(ツ)_/¯

#

I don't see why a custom shop wouldn't do it

odd talon
#

I don’t either.

#

I’m a serious and willing customer.

#

I’ve been turned away by basically every shop.

shadow osprey
#

walk in with a couple stacks

odd talon
#

Do you work on cars for a living?

#

In any case what are your thoughts on custom driveshafts

shadow osprey
#

No lol

#

That said, I see no problem with them. I've seen plenty on cars

#

and I've seen plenty break on cars

odd talon
#

Any idea who makes the best ?

shadow osprey
#

As long as it's not aluminum, you're fine

Any shop I guess

#

Go on the thread on the forum, you'll get a better answer there

got most of the stuff out with about four cans of that and i gave up after that

#

ive always wanted another accord but i feel like i shoudlint test my luck

#

but boy do i want to

#

i really want an old lxi hatch

shadow osprey
#

one of the guys on the forum has an accord

fathom socket
#

oh?

shadow osprey
#

yeah I think its like a mid 2000s

fathom socket
#

theyre nice

#

but definitley not for me

#

really great base but the way they look and feel dont do it for me as a dd

odd talon
#

I think a good buy is any Honda with a bad transmission

#

From the 98-2004 era

#

Then swap in a 2006-2007 accord trans

fathom socket
#

to be completley honest any honda automatic is not worth a dime

#

all of them are weak

#

only way to go with hondas is standard

#

theyre convenient for a while but when they break they really do

shadow osprey
#

Friend of mine has I think a 95 or 96 stick sedan, and it has like 230k on it. Still runs great

fathom socket
#

yeah hondas make great engines and great manuals

#

especially if kept up they do so well

#

really though if somone really wants an automatic one way to make them last longer is changing the a/t fluid and filter 2/3rds to half the reccomended change interval

#

with a automatic i buy i usually change the oil and transmission fluid after i buy it then 500 mi later

#

thats a bit of a personal paranoia thing though

stoic ledge
#

Does Honda still make cars then ? 😂 Sales numbers here are so low, even Alfa Romeo sold more cars last year

fathom socket
#

they do, not sure where youre at but here in the us theyre still selling well since most people buying new are keeping them 3-5 years max

stoic ledge
#

Yeah I know they are selling big in the States

#

But there aren't may cars for the European market

#

Only the Civic and Jazz (Fit)

fathom socket
#

yeah if they arent doing well it makes sense theyd be cutting back

#

no point in putting stock somwhere where it will go stale

#

stares blankly at the airfeilds worth of unsold cars stateside

stoic ledge
#

More cars or on order here, pretty low stock

odd talon
#

never understood the CR-Z though

stoic ledge
#

To share their vision on hybrid cars ? Instead of making cars more eco using the electric motor to make it more fun.

Too bad it was neither: not fuel effecient and because it had too little power, not fun

#

Looked good tho

#

But it needed a bigger electro engine

shadow osprey
#

No one understands the CR-Z. Or HR-V for that matter

stoic ledge
#

Oh yeah the HR-V, I completely forgot that it exists

#

Way to expensive, at least it is here

#

So nobody buys it

carmine summit
#

The CR-Z is kinda cool

#

I know someone that used to have one

#

met them at autocross

#

this summer they sold it and bought a BRZ though

#

they liked the CR-Z but they wanted something RWD

Please delete if not allowed. If anyone is looking at purchasing a Tesla soon, please let me know if there is anything I can do to help that process. Model 3 Deliveries to EU starting in February, and Eastern Asia in April. SR Model 3 ($35k before incentives) to be delivered in 4-6 months, but with the following incentives current model 3s can be deducted down lower than $35k. Current Incentives include:

-State Incentives such as state tax credits, registration and sales tax incentives, and so on

@hollow rose You work for Tesla? monkaS

stoic ledge
hollow rose
#

@wheat hatch I do, not customer facing or in sales at all. IMO best time to buy if you want to get into a Tesla in the next 6-12 months

#

I also have a model 3, and can validate it as a vehicle

stoic ledge
#

They just started delivery of the Model 3 here last month

looks at Linus' Chevy

👀

I was kind of disappointed that he got a volt over a model 3. I know Luke has an X, would of thought he would be a good avocate for Linus to get a Tesla. But his logic is sound on the purchase of a volt and that's his choice as a consumer. 😃

pastel crownBOT
stoic ledge
#

Well I think a Model 3 is more expensive then a 1 year old Volt, especially since you can't get the cheaper version

vital glen
#

@stoic ledge they rant on Apple for their supply chain, but Tesla has similar policies

shadow osprey
#

Luke has a model x?

#

I knew he was cool but not that cool

#

tempted to @ Luke but too scared I’ll be yelled at

lime copper
#

Don't.

#

A Tesla I can understand, but Apple needs to laxen up.

shadow osprey
#

I don't think Dooley likes me much 🤔

stoic ledge
#

@vital glen Yeah I know, Linus also said that in his video as a reason why he didn't bought a Tesla.

Also yes, Luke has a Tesla Model X. You could see a section of the falcon doors in a Scrapyard Wars video apparently a differt video

lime copper
#

I don't even like myself. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

shadow osprey
#

You and I both, brother

fathom socket
#

things cooler than a tesla: an electric ford ranchero

#

i mean

#

look at that

#

add more batteries and youd have really somethin there

vital glen
#

No @fathom socket

fathom socket
#

Ok

#

To each their own hweels

#

for me, the simpler the ev is the nicer it is personally

#

maybe a dual din nav sys

fathom socket
#

until modern evs interior and ride qualities come up, i might as well go cheaper and have more fun with it yknow?

odd talon
#

Well

#

i'd rather have a tesla drivetrain and cooling

#

doesn't have to be 700hp

#

even the smaller front motor would be okay with me

fathom socket
#

oh yeah theres good drivetrain and cooling stuff outta teslas
