I found a Starion for sale in my area
Turbo ?
88 turbo
Nice
auto tho
Oeh that's a shame
Manual swap
I found something better
It's a Starion you're not gonna find many
a better swap if you will
it is indeed a Scooby and you are correct
Though you want to know what's even cooler
A Plymouth Conquest
Cause no one bought those
Like my Eclipse turned Plymouth Laser
that's interesting
DSM baby
@gray fox Would you buy a duramax swapped 2015 camaro?
who wouldn't
Brandon's Cummins S10 drag racing at Scheid Diesel's eXtravaganza 2009. Round #2 rematch put me up against the same first gen Duramax powered Camaro Z28. I t...
So I have a complete 2.2l drivetrain from a rusted out 88 legacy wagon, and I just found an almost free 02 wrx wagon shell. I'm thinking maybe I could put the 2.2l drivetrain into the wrx body and have the legally slowest wrx on the planet
That's a thing
but the shell isn't complete and bugeye parts are expensive
Well, I go to say
I would swap an older camaro with a duramax for memes
if I had the money
It's been done on a newer one
it was the same guy that put a Cummins into a Charger
and put a mad max style bullbar on a Viper
Apparently somebody in my country had imported a VW Altas 2.0T S (base trim) for some reason... They payed €148.199, which is about $168.000 USD
I've configured the car on the US site, final price:
TOTAL MSRP $31,890
why
@stoic ledge I will make the obvious joke
damn good price
$168 for a $31,890 car
Reeeee you Americans using the ., wrong 😠 😛
$168k for a $32k car ;)
And why.... I have no idea why
nah we use it correctly here in the Americas
example $10.00 means 10 dollars
$1,000 is 1000 dollars
anything less than 1 comes after the . but you separate every 3 digits with , to make it easy to read
No it's $10,00 is 10 dollars, $1.000 is 1000 dollars
., should be the other way around 😛
Many other countries use a comma instead. The decimal separator is also called the radix character. Likewise, while the U.K. and U.S. use a comma to separate groups of thousands, many other countries use a period instead, and some countries separate thousands groups with a thin space.
😠
But we're getting off-topic 😛
true
Don't really have much to say 'bout cars at the moment... Spotted a Focus RS today. Those are quite rare here
But I see that one every day at school so it's not that special
Those leafs tho..
noice
I'm sure that Atlas story ain't right. There has got to be more into it.
Found this one a few weeks ago
You can check licence plates in the Netherlands, showing details of the car. Under catalog price (MSRP) it shows €149.199 , which is the number calculated by the dutch version of the DMV. This contains a) the MSRP of the value in the States, b) the import tax, c) the standard tax, d) the CO2-emissions tax. The CO2-emissions tax alone is €71.675 , you do the maths
Welcome to the Netherlands (: (:
So the price of the car is not 30K Euros
The simulation on the website, only shows the price without taxes
The price of the car is $31,000 USD
Europe taxes too much
In the US the car is $31,000 and there's a few thousand in taxes
like $40k at most
- You take the $31k USD car
- You pay tax in the region where you bought the car
- You ship it to the Netherlands (€2k)
Over all those cost (including shipping), you pay 10% import taxes
Over that amount of money (including shipping) you pay 21% tax
On top of that, you pay the €71k CO2 emission taxes
You pay almosy €150k for a VW SUV
So (((($31k + 9%) + 2k) + 10%) +21%) + 70k, which only adds up to €110k. So probably there is another tax I don't know about, or there are some option extra's/differt trims the "Build your own" section of the site isn't showing
border customs, ground transport, US sales tax
@stoic ledge Hi! About car's prices, I was thinking maybe the difference is due to a tax
VAT
i don't know if prices on manufacturers websites includes it
I saw a car
A big one and small one
And a dummy not realizing they were hydroplaning
Lol I've seen that too once, on the german autobahn. Raining hard, say him hydroplaning, but still going extremely fast. Few kilometres later I saw it crashed in the guard rails 😂
@warm sparrow @carmine summit Yeah probably those kind of taxes, which in total makes it €150k/$170k for a freaking VW. I mean, for that price you can also get a fully loaded Toyota Land Cruiser (2.8 Diesel tho) or a Range Rover P400e (the hybrid one) Autobiography
@stoic ledge I meant it could explain differences between cars prices in our countries
Why aren't you decked out with el wire yet?
Because it's too distracting 😛
@warm sparrow Yes it does, our cars are more expensive then in for example Belgium, Germany or your country, France, because of the extra tax based on CO2 emissions
Here in canadia peso land we also use the period~
10.00$ = ten dollars :>
Nooo that's just wrong :p
@velvet grove and in Freedom Land that equals $1.50
@gray fox .15*
.>
@vital glen my math was wrong
@carmine summit nah it's Trudeau bucks
Currently taking photos at a drift event

We head out to Wheels Boutique in Miami, FL to take delivery of their brand new Bugatti Chiron. While there we swap out the wheels and a set of lighter ANRKY...
I gotta puta RIMZ on my Bugatti
I really wanted to see them donk it
I want to see them rice it. Scissor hing doors, massive chrome RIMZ, vinyl snake skin interior, a massive stereo (using the best components that Walmart has to offer), and lots of NOS.
@warm sparrow Rice Rice Baby
Honestly I miss people.putting good stereos in cars. New Cara integrate way to much into the head unit these days
@gray fox who needs stereos when you have your phone, and a sub
More like your phone and ear buds
Also you would be surprised how good ab modest stereo can sound
Like you don't need to spend a fuck ton to get good sound
No I agree people are morons. It's just sad that people deal with all this bullshit. Your gonna run into the same issue with a 2018 Jeep that you do with a 89 Buick Reatta the fucking touch screen is dead so you cant turn on the heater, or the radio, or in the Jeep's case the heated seats, the rear view camera, ect
Progress is taking 2 steps forward and 500 steps back. I remember when Ford starred integrating part of the computer into the head unit and if the radio got stolen the car wouldn't crank
That is some good shit
And Ford would fix it for 1100 plus labor
What
Well you own a benz...
"fine German craftsman" made it
*German craftsman install Chinese parts
My dad bought it in 2007, drove it, then it sat in the garage and now I own it
Ah
It was a business car
If their is one thing German cars love is sitting
I'm biased though. I have an 05 Magnum R/T
Every part that needs to be fixed of upgraded or is just wierd is Benz
I will sell it one day, and then go buy a 454ss, because fuck it
And I'm guessing you.cant just order that amp and pop it in cause it needs to be programmed
Or some bullshit
Damn
They didn't hide it under the rear seat like a BMW
Which means you break mounting studs for the rear seat so it rattles
perfect
Cause BMW tightens them with an impact hammer
German engineering at it's finest
I use to I stall car stereos in high end cars back in the mid 2000s
The fucker has more batteries than a diesel
Germans where the worst
Honestly the best were surprisingly the British
As far as imports
But thats because you just bypassed all the factory electrical for anything cause fuck that. Put a nice A/D/S amp, Nakamichi HU, and BA speaker setup in a 1998 Lotus Esprit V8
ofc
I can't do aftermarket anything for the s550 because everything breaks
if you don't use oem
or something close to it
Yeah, they are fun. I'm looking to get my system in my wagon next year. Got the sub enclosure made. Removing the space saver spare cause yeqh I'm gonna put this Corolla tire on a RWD V8 with 400ft-lb of torque
Neatest car I did was a early 90s Bentley Turbo R
woh
Yeah installed about 15K of gear in that sucker. Guy wanted Dedicated amps per stage. High/Mid/Mid Bass/Sub
thanks jalopnik
Well you know, if you are buying a bentley might as well
Always helpful
Agreed. Best part it was a take over from a shop that was way out of their league. The nightmare behind the panels was horrifying.
I would imagine
No the factory stuff was fine. It was all the work the other shop did. The speaker wire they ran wasn't secured anywhere it was just dangling loose. They just left it exposed in the door jambs it didn't go through the existing wiring looms or they didn't make their own looms and grommets
oh god
Amps were just riv nutted to the back frame for the rear seats
Instead of making an actual amp rack that securely mounted to the frame
Nah man, just gotta shove it in there
And the aftermarket head unit which was a dead end which was real nice wasn't actually secured in the dash so it would fly out
I mean it was a real nice Denon CD player with the view meter module so I mean that was like $600 right there but that install was janky as fuck
I remember we had to tell the guy we were going to have to redo everything and he said he had already paid those guys 10 grand and I told him you're going to have to pay us another 15 for just the gear and probably another eight or nine for us to fix their bullshit
the life of a Bentley owner who did it wrong the first time
Honestly it was a fun job. It was real cool to be installing these stereos in these really expensive cars. And in cases of stuff like Lamborghinis and Maseratis to see that beneath those beautiful Italian line there was some pretty Janke shit done by the factory
Like I'll be honest I did an install in a Dodge Viper and let me tell you that was some sketchy shit under those panels but the worst I ever saw was behind the dash of a fucking early 90s Diablo
lol
The wiring had no looms it was wrapped in electrical tape and they were using fucking t splices
lmao
$200,000 car
Got to cut corners somewhere
Honestly Lamborghini cut Corners everywhere that you really couldn't see
Got a question for car enthusiasts and the like. I'm assuming people here watch RegularCarReviews and Doug Demuro. I was wondering if anybody here liked the idea of a different type of car review. My idea is to get a car for around or under $1k, drive it for a month or so, maybe more, and then offer thoughts on the experience of it as a daily driver for new drivers and cheapskates. I would just go ahead and start doing it, I already have two that fit that criteria, but I'm wondering if anyone here could see themselves finding interest in that. And less so the specifications of the car and the history behind the model, but the drivability of it after 180k miles, the day-to-day of "This shitty interior killed my back during a long haul, I got judged by everyone when I walked to it in parking lots, repairs on this are straight-forward but time consuming, ect." Because while I greatly enjoy RCR and Doug, there's that personal connection with the car that's missing since they only have the car for a couple hours. And while there are some things you can google, I've found that my favorite reviews of theirs are always ones where they personally owned that car for a while before making the video.
/sorry about the wall of text, just curious as to if other people would be interested in seeing such a thing/
oh god
@rose dagger maybe
I watch rcr for the humor and the genius behind the writing
the car review is just a medium and a passion for that comedy
to flow
Very true
While someone like is doug is a very detailed day 1 car review
and his more doug demuro is more of a catalog of videos of his passion
I probably wouldnt have an interest.
we drive some pretty cheap vehicles around here. so its pretty normal 👌

@rose dagger you mean Hoovies Garage?
@vital glen that and I think his schtick is to apeal to the younger guys that don't remeber when cars use to have switches all over the place to control the insane amount of luxury features. I just remeber his surprise when a 70's Maserati had a balance knob on the dash
@fathom socket you are not the norm.
alot of 19 year olds are baffeld that a car from 2005 doesnt have a touch screen
and that it has both an in dash CD changer and a tape deck
I'm 30 I remeber when you could still get a car with no Tape deck
just an AM FM radio
or even no radio
Well Mr/ Fancy
lol
with your 8-track tapes radio too good fro you
@fathom socket woh a mr. I drive a 79

no why
the spartan in your profile makes me think of the spartan marathons

Oof. Going over aftermarket rear view camera placement. Guess thats one point for putting it inside the rear hatch...

@vital glen no I honestly kind of don't watch the guys that do nothing but talk about "exotics" it stopped interesting me when they became more rich boy toys that make you feel like an F1 champ when you end up in a ditch if they tried the same shit in a CRX.
lol
They are not fun to watch
It really is just a bunch of trustfund kids watching other people race/work on their car
or get caught for speeding then blame the cops
most of the time they dont even know what theyre doing

- resto-modding
@heady vine, just wondering if anyone has an idea what would cause a carb to allow the engine to fire, but it won't stay running at idle or with throttle held steady. Fuel getting to carb float bowl and is coming out from the accelerator part of the carb. Motorcycle in question is a Honda Shadow Aero 750. Me and my dad keep debating if it's a gucked up jet or maybe one of the diaframs has a small hole causing vacuum loss
Mopar Baybeee
Putting stage one suspension on it next spring, and doing the B6 police brake upgrade next month.
good
If its been standing a while then yes it would be a jet guncked up @ornate fulcrum
open it up and let it sit in fuel for about a day
Then take a wire and just push it through each hole
this should fix the problem
if its a jet
Or theres a slight chance it could be battery
I had a yamaha that didnt wanna idle and it was battery
@heady vine, already check battery and made sure it is at full charge
I will probably get at the jets then next
Then i suggest letting the carb sit in fuel for about a couple hours or a day
Oof, that going to be fun part. Getting the carb off
It always is lmao
Yeah, darn thing got a secondary air vacuum hoses, so hoses all over the darn thing. Compare to my single banger Suzuki, way more pain to get at the carb
Theyre not very mechanic friendly
Vacuum lines are the best
Yay 2 years later I'm here!
Hyundai coupe 2.0l, not to bad as a first car
@hexed arrow should have gotten a prius, buz u savin' the envirorment wit it
@hexed arrow no 2.7 GT V6
@hexed arrow I had the 2.7 GT V6 with the special edition six speed
Had it for six months...
Got tboned by an old guy in a truck that shouldn't be allowed to drive anymore.
Taken hours before the crash. I had just gotten KDM silver door pulls, door handles, and HVAC controls to replace the shit black USDM versions.
God those tail lights where terrible
Rip car
@hexed arrow it's a good platform. Your 2.0 is a manual right?
Yes, 5 speed manual
Good.
I'm not going to do any performance mods on it for a while, £1500/y is enaugh insurance
, going to get LED headlights, tint headlights, taillights and windows (to legal limits), get new 17" alloys (the previous owner curbed them so bad I'm not sure they can be repaired) , replace head unit and speakers and install a parking camera.
I have a prius
My condoleances @raven mica
@hexed arrow good call on the stereo factory is trash in the GK
I would get a Sony 900BT just got discontinued but they are great SQ units and have a solid amount of tuning and expandability
I would advise getting an amp but that depends on how far you want to go.
Pretty far
@warm sparrow that Mustang is only a couple hours from me, it's a 67 Mustang body on top of a C5 Corvette
😮
@hexed arrow then I say get an amp. Do a five channel so you can have the tweets on their own channel and the mids on their own and a sub. If you want some suggestions I can send you some links. I'm a bit of a car audio nerd
I'm thinking of getting rid of the back seats and installing speakers and a sub there (a bit chavy but
)
It's not like any human can comfortably fit in them anyway
Just do subs if you want to go that far. Use the stock location for the tweets and mids. Though to be honest I would ditch the donut and make a fiber glass enclosure under the trunk floor.
And stealth.
Sounds expensive
I want to spend £600 tops on audio currently
Or modify the back seats and take out a chunk in the middle and put 2 "8 subs there
something like this
600 pounds is around a grand or so right?
Cause that's doable @hexed arrow if your talking this your gonna be fiber glassing and that's not a bad idea
The Sony HU I mention can be had new in box for $80
ill start with the cheaper stuff aka head unit and speakers then sub and amp
I would suggest the previous 900. They are real nice. Haven't played with a 920

I would also see if you could find a Mutant Ascension 5 since you are in the UK.
They are a few years old but are well made and should be pretty affordable. Don't know how common they are but they where a UK brand.
They are hard to come by state side but I imagine in the UK it might be easier
Ok

Tesla the try hard of the car world
They’re pretty innovative
Now they should also try to make reliable cars 😅
i'm really curious about the cost to fix
@stoic ledge bingo
@covert mulch in most cases it's insane since Tesla builds Cara in a manner akin to a old school coach builder where every car is a little different.
Just like Dacia, every car is different
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpGjYr0l1RI
😂
Final adjustments on the doors of a Dacia's Sandero in Russia
The only reason Tesla exists is due to Space X making serious bank. They are a good design and have some superior components but if they really want to make the future all electric by Tesla they need to figure out how to mass produce them effectively to lower cost
@stoic ledge hey the Dacia Sandero is the choice of people of culture...and James May
I mean let's be honest the Russians aren't know for Precision manufacturing
They can make a limo though. A ZiL is a tank
It's built in Romania 😉
That is even worst fucking Gypsy's 😉
Actually for the money they aren't that bad... not very luxury but reliable a.f. Seats are not bad either imho
Hehe true 😛
I wouldn’t say that Tesla’s are unreliable.
I would honestly say that they are more reliable due to less moving parts
Also, their warranties are relatively good.
Yeah, they really do need to figure out how to cut costs though.
Although they are one of the two car companies in America that haven’t gone bankrupt...
cough yet cough
My dad works with a guy who used to work at Tesla... Apparently the manufacturing plants are so bad that the dude who used to work there said to buy virtually any other $40k car.
Just huge amounts of defects, and it only takes one small missed defect to cause huge problems later. I'm all for what Tesla's doing, but that's because it's getting others to finally get back to making electric cars. I'm super excited for what BMW, VW, and Chevy come out with for electrics. Chevy's Volt is great, the EV1 from Saturn (Still General Motors at the time) was great, VW has awesome hybrids, and BMW will eventually figure it out once the M3 is electric or a hybrid.
Me asking Tesla owners if it's reliable: "Yes"
Asking what issues they had: "Only 3 door handles, 2 engines, a screen... But replaced under warranty"
Yes, it didn't cost you anything, but that's not reliable in my book.
Also, body panels that don't allign, scratches and chips in the paint even before the car is delivered, bumpers falling of during heavy rain... Not a sign of quality imho
Yep, very true.
And if I dent my hood? I go to a body shop, they see if they can fix it, if not, they can order the hood and paint-match it for me. Can you do that on a Tesla though?
And how do you know you fender wing isn't slightly misaligned anyway? With that being the reason it doesn't align...
I agree the idea behind Tesla is good, forcing other manufacturers in building electric cars. Just shows they miss the experience other brands have.
Also, hydrogen is the future imho, but that's another discussion 😛
Yes I've seen it
It's such a shame. I'd love to drive an EV1.
Well, until winter hits, then my diesel saves my Minnesota ass.
I don't understand buying a hybrid up here. Your MPG is slightly worse than mine in the summer, and much worse than mine in the winter. And the one thing I hate about electric cars is no manual gearbox available.
Yeah really a shame they crushed them, those were actually pretty nice cars. And for 20 years ago pretty advanced too, with acceptable range of 100 miles
The thing is, if they weren't crushed, and an EV2, EV3, ect. came out, I'd probably be driving a third or fourth gen EV1. And Saturn would probably still be around.
I drive 2-3k miles a month
That's why I had to get a TDI instead of a GTI. :(
Though I still love it.
The 2.0 Common rail.
140 hp ?
That's the one I've got, I know the ALH 1.9l is the classic "it'll never stop" one.
but yeah, 140hp
1.9 TDI was the best one indeed
My mom has the 150hp tuned Golf "sportwagen" variant, I have the 140hp 2 door Golf, and my dad has a "PD" Jetta, that made 100hp stock, he's got it tuned though, it drives so nicely.
Or the 1.9 SDI, no turbo, 68hp 😂
I have a 1.8T Passat, the B5.5 (same years as the Mk4 Jetta and Golf that had the 1.9l ALH), and I love it, but that generation has things to look out for. CV shafts, window motor issues, lots of rust, and sometimes horrific electrical problems.
Don't all VW's have things to look out for? 😅
I'd love a B5.5 diesel Passat, but they didn't make them with a manual trans over here, you can manual swap it though, but I'd have to find with for a reasonable price with a bad tranny, find a good six-speed to swap it with, and then it'd be painful anyway.
95% of the B5(.5)'s diesels are manual here 😉
Most VW's have things like, "Don't get the automatic of this generation" or "make sure it's the tiptronic automatic transmission" or "make sure it's from the Germany plant and not the Mexico plant for these decades"
But if you can find the unicorn VW, they're kind of tanks. I have a V6 Passat, 230k miles, runs like a top, my dad's TDI, 240k miles no issues since he bought it with 180k besides needing a glow plug and a wheel bearing when he bought it.
The german ones have nicer plastics on the inside 😅 Still DSG's with dry clutches eat their clutches, oil issues on almost every model, EGR-valve that gets broken... They don't built them like they used to anymore
See if you could a smuggle a B5.5 diesel manual over here, I'll pay you three shillings.
They are picky about oil, but pretty much any German car is "look up mantinience before you even consider it." Like the E46 BMWs being pretty damn good as long as you serviced them regularly and put high-grade fuel into it. And yeah, the EGR valve, but I plan on removing that soon.
I know a guy that had a dark green B5.5 2.8 V6 4Motion manual in Highline trim, one of the few VW's I would love to own
He had a Wagon
but with the V6 TDI instead.
The TDI V6 was a 2.5l engine
This, but in black would be "the car" for me.
Oh we had that one too, didn't know it was a V6. Or I forgot, most of them are 1.9 TDI's or 1.8 petrol's...
They also had smaller engine TDIs for the Passat.
That was the shade of green he had on his Passat Variant
but that displacement with a diesel engine would be crazy torque.
Much like the inline-six BMW diesels, though no manuals for that over here.
Manual > auto any day
Smallest diesel in the Passat B5 wasa a 1.9 TDI 100 horses
B7 and B8 also have a 1.6 TDI
And I know that the power loss isn't really there anymore, same with the MPG difference, but it's just boring to drive an auto. Because you're really just steering at that point.
And I've sat in bumper-to-bumper with a clutch, it's not difficult, you give yourself some distance from the person in front of you, and then you slowly let out first gear, and then you idle up to him for fifteen seconds, waiting for the traffic to clear up, it's not hard.
Yet that's still people's excuse.
I do it pretty often, never had an issue
And for me, it was maybe sixteen hours of driving stick until I got it down.
People act like they'll be stalling at every stop sign for weeks and weeks until they figure it out.
Hills were tricky though, screeched my tires at every one of 'em for a while, my new car has hill-assist too which is an added help.
Didn't stall my car the first time, or the second or the third. Yes, it has stalled on me 2 or 3 times (in 3 years) but that can happen to anyone. Just restart your car and you get going again
yep
Yeah my car has hill start assist 😉
And when you start your car, the RPMs start high, you can let the clutch out then so easily.
It's difficult to stall repeatedly after you learn that.
Tbh is pretty difficult for me to stall the car, because then I have to think how I must use my feet wrong.
I won't stall unless I overthink it.
Or if it's just a clutch I'm not used to.
My two manuals, Passat has 230k miles, my TDI golf has 140k miles, the clutch is so sharp on the Golf in comparison.
Yeah you need to get the feeling everytime you drive a car with a different clutch
My dad's 2002 Jetta has 422,000 KM
what engine is it?
Well my car and the car of my parents are the same brand, are equally as old (mine is one day newer 😎 ) with almost the same mileage so there's not really a difference
ALH
that'll do it
Oof the 75hp 1.9 TD
we just swapped in a slightly newer AAZ with new rings and bearings about a month ago but the timing slipped like a week later
it made about 120hp lol
lolo
Lolz
I know a guy that owned a Audi A4 1.9 TDI with about 500k miles, driving with no turbo for the last 200k miles
that'd be slow
Hahaha
Yes that thing was even slower then my 1.2 Corsa 😂
My 1.8T Passat was naturally aspirated for a day while I drove it home.
The hose that pumps the compressed air into the engine came off, it was loud as hell and very slow.
Without turbo it's almost like a 1.9 SDI (68hp), so that in a A4....
But after I got it home and popped the hood, it uhhh, was a simple fix with a flathead screwdriver.
Yeah for one day it's fine but can you imagine driving like that for 200k miles...
Oh wow 😛
Just to tighten the clamp. Lesson learned:Always fully investigate before driving home
And you can get a B6 A4 Avant here, even with a diesel 😃 😃
yeah my dad blew a boost hose on his 1992 Jetta last year and we didn't know it was blown, it smoked a lot and was slow lol.
Or a GTD, damn what I'd give for a two door GTD.
GTD is about €15k ? I can get you one 😂
Used*
idgaf
A decent GTI is at least $16k here, sunroof and all, $18k easily.
I just don't have money lol
Full package is like $21k for a 2016 model
04/2014 Golf 2.0 TDI GTD (Mk7)
256.277 km (about 160k miles)
€14.950
That's the cheapest one atm
I'm not sure if I can get a MK7 GTD after all that emissions stuff
Well they are so "cheap" here because diesels are heavily taxed now and the taxes get even worse
This is my TDI, the exact setup I wanted minus the sunroof, but I can't complain, it was pretty cheap considering.
I'll probably just stick to old stuff myself
It's cheap, easy to work on, and reliable ish
I love my old cars, I've got two of them, I find it hard to even think about not owning them despite not regularly driving them.
Don't have space for more then one car so I have to do with what I've got...
This is one of my dream cars
you've probably never heard of it, only 500 made and only sold in Canada
I need something long-term and not problematic though, my 1.8T is an automatic nearing 160k miles, my V6 has 240k, so my little TDI with 140k is all I can really justify daily-driving. I just wanna get it tuned. Stage 3 tune is 187bhp and 333lb ft of torque. Stock is 140bhp and 236lb ft of torque.
I'd be able to pull on nearly everything on the road, that's all I want lol
Meanwhile i'm here with 83hp 😅
I'm here with 2 lp
Wheels are wheels, if it does what you need it to do, leave it. I just know I'll get more life out of the car if I tune it, I'll get rid of that itch to upgrade for a while longer.
Well there's not much to tune on my car....
Well yeah, I doubt any car with 83hp has a turbo.
That's why I always seek out a car with a turbo, I want to tune it further.
Nope no turbo...
Add one lol
if only it were that simple
And well, most brand new cars with around 90 horsepower have a turbo 😂
It is to an extent
Hehe I wish I could
stares sadly at bone-stock V6 Passat that's almost stupid fun, but only "fun"
audi 2.7tt
yessssssss
Should just bolt in right?
You can cold-air intake pretty much anything, but finding a proper kit that will actually do anything good for performance not throw a check engine light is tricky
It wouldn't matter on my Passat (three or four bad o2 sensors lol), but for some people, it can mean another pesky dashlight.
Electrical tape
The unfortunate part is, I see cars on craigslist where they try to get away with that..
Well I'm fine with it for daily driving, it's cheap to run which is also important for a student 😛
Yep
One of the reasons I want an old VW diesel. Easy to work on, cheap to maintain, and great on fuel.
Do you guys even have LPG in Northern America ?
Like I said, wheels are wheels, rock it until they fall off.
Not common
Old VW's are easy to maintain, the new ones tho...
I want an old 1.6l diesel Rabbit... if I could find a rust-free one, I'd pay like $2k for it.
Yeah they're available
idc about the miles, but they're all wrecked by the salt here in Minnesota.
And I'd want the hatchback, not the pickup.
R.I.P
My Fiancee's parents live over in Germany though, I could see if they could import one for me. Lol
I wish I could find a clean caddy for a decent price
that would be the best wedding present, but I think my fiancee would actually kill me
Lol
Shipping costs more then the car 😂
yep
$2,000 at Orchid Euro
VW Rabbit is a Golf Mk1 right ?
I already looked at getting them to import a manual TDI Passat B5.5 before I bought my TDI Golf. It wasn't very cost effective though.
Sort of
It would have been almost $6k at least, and my car was like $7.2k for fewer miles and younger by a decade.
My number was wrong, $2600 not $2000
I found a 1983 1.6 D Golf Mk 1 with 285k miles on it, €1500 😃
I know a guy who's got family in Kansas though, he said he goes there to buy rust-free cars. So I might roadtrip with him down there at some point to get an old VW.
dammit
that's what I'm looking for.
Working on those things is so simple.
What color is it?
If you're up for a bit of a drive, check out Oak Grove Import Auto in Dayton, Ohio
gdi it's so cute.
I see a dark green Passat B5.5 V6 (think a 2.8) on their FB-page 👀
and only a small amount of rust.
I met an old guy outside of a Menards that drove an old Rabbit diesel, it was yellow, he had a veterans hat on, he had a missing finger, and he was the coolest old dude ever.
neat
He bought it for like $1500, only 140k miles on it.
Those US-spec bumpers tho
small picture but you get the idea
Wow that's really small 😛
@rose dagger
https://i.imgur.com/Cnf91.jpg
Found a pic of the Passat Variant 2.8 V6 4Motion Manual, with BBS-rims
Well, I know where I'm headed.... See you in Ohio...
lol
Those exhaust pipes though
I don't often see a VW that I want (read: never) but that one... 🍆 💦 💦
I find cool daily driver cars to be much more interesting than crazy performance cars.
I agree
I like crazy performance daily drivers
They don't need crazy performance, as long as they put a smile on your face every time you go driving
E90 3 series is also cool imho
but a nice 5-speed commuter car that can be a bit of fun through an on-ramp or on a back-country road will always have my heart.
I'm still stuck on the E46, my dad had a 330i ZHP before he got his Jetta.
if you bag those BMW wagons though
umph
My brother's E91 is a german import with almost every optional extra... except a big engine 😛
lol
Don't think they've ever sold a E91 in the states, did they ?
my dad has had lots of cool cars though, he had an old school Celica GT even.
My dad never had a really cool car
Nicee
idk what color or exact year though
My dad used to have a white Pontiac Astre wagon with a Buick V6 and a 5 speed manual
My dad started with a Ford Taunus Wagon converted to a panel van because it was cheaper to run 😂
nope
lol
The B6 is a good generation for Audi/VW as long as you get the manual trans.
yeah I want a 6 speed
I've heard many bad stories about the autos in the B6 Passats.
I find auto boring
Are you stuck on wagons or the B6 platform?
Look at the VW CC
B6 Passat uses wet clutches, the problem started then they started using dry clutches
It's a Passat coupe sort of, it's a small four-door.
Atleast here in Europe
is the Avant not as expensive?
nope
weird
CC is just a more unpractical Passat 😛
true
The B6 Passat has the 2.0T though, tune it up to 245hp I think.
that with "4motion" might be cheaper than the quattro Avant.
1.8T avant though
B6 Passat was also available with the R36 VR6 (:
Or 1.8T A4
there was a 3.6 Passat Wagon for sale here a while ago
I love the B5 platform though
$10,000 is too much for me
so my heart is very tender to the Passats and A4.
Get a B5 W8
But.... it's a W8
Just get an R32 Golf and pay that money up front lol
Or get a W12 Phaeton (:
Phaeton though
Which you could get with a 2.8 or 3.0 V6 I believe. And that's a true luxury car.
And it's huge
3.0 and 4.2 no? And some diesels
In a phaeton, you go in reverse and the back headrests will flip down if nobody is in the back seat. Name any other car that does that under $20k
nvm, Phaeton only came in V8 and W12.
4.2l V8
the Phaeton cost more than $20,000 lol
probably had a diesel in Europe though.
3.2 and 3.6 V6, 4.2 V8, 6.0 W12, 3.0 TDI and 5.0 TDI V10
Just like how you lucky people get diesel mini coopers.
top of the line Phaeton was $85,000 US
$3500 for a W12 Phaeton with a blown transmission lol
Phaeton Long 5.0 V10 TDI 4Motion Highline: €170.440 back in 2007
No wait, the W12 was more expensive
Phaeton Ling 6.0 W12 4Motion: €201590
There was a V8 Phaeton for sale here for $6,000 lol
4.2l Phaeton is roughly $5k nowadays. It's just fourteen years old as well
that's the problem 14 years
'problem'
Cheapest one is €1995 but it just looks like shit
I should become the Tavarish of VWs
Ah, Engine broken
So is the air ride, cracked/ripped leather, Audi S4 rims, broken front bumper
If I got a W12 Phaeton I would probably put a 2.5" straight pipe on it
2 2.5" straight pipes actually
I'm in Canada
Yeah just put it on a boat 😛
be easier to just buy a W12 Audi A8
The easy way is not always the fun way 😉
Hehe good luck 😛
yeah it's probably not gonna happen lol
0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds... not that fast for a W12 engine imho
The A8 or an S4 or S8 would be better in my eyes.
Most older Audi's with big engines here change hands very often because people buy them, and then they can't afford the parts to maintain it
(same with the Phaeton)
🤔 For some reason the Phaeton was limited to 210km/h (130 mph) in Northern America..
In Canada, 93 Phaetons were sold in 2004, and in the first eight months of 2005, only 21 found owners.
Wow
oof
I should have bought that one that was for sale
there's one for sale in really nice shape for $8000
tempting
if it has a W12 I should try to talk them down to $4000 lol
I have like $4500 to my name
insurance would be ridiculous
it's $4,000 a year on a MK4
Wow that's ridiculous
time to get a quote on a 2004 Phaeton lol
Lol 😂 40k/year probably
Phaeton didn't sell well in my country either..
Holy shit $4k/year is $330/month, that's almost what I pay for my car including road taxes, fuel and maintenance
the W12 is the same for me lol
so if I was buying a Phaeton as a daily, I'd buy a W12
€2900/year so no big difference with the W12
Only issue: the W12 is more expensive to maintain
lol that's another few grand
But it's cheaper to run (at least it is here)
If I win the lottery, I'll buy a W12 Phaeton and get a custom exhaust
they didn't sell the diesel here
Oh wait you guys didn't get the diesel
Yup my bad
Well you did get the Touareg R50 with the same 5.0 TDI... just swap it 😛
I'm thinking a 190E with an engine from a C230 Kompressor would be cool
Just get a 190D and run it on old frying oil
:)
230 Kompressor won't be easy to swap, all those wires and ECU's
first time i've ever had a tire come off while driving
it was a real treat and a half to experience
i had a similar experience a couple of months ago
there's construction thats been going on for years now and they mustve got something in the road
the very same tire as yours literally blew up
Oof that sucks 😠
it really did
oh
It's pretty neat what you can do with 3D printing these days. I wonder what will come from it in the future. And how much more affordable stuff will get.
Wheel design 3D printed in titanium.
i allready posted it here ^^
Weren't the french "on strike", refusing to refuel or something like that?
not really
Oh my bad
it's mainly about fuel prices, people are blocking some roads to make the government stop doing shit because it's f!ckin expensive
basically
but yes some don't go to work to do that
Ah okk
How much is fuel in France ?
Yeah I've read about that 😠
Taking action isn't bad, but no-one has to die
diesel is like 1.45 now but it had been 1.52 / 1.54...
i even saw a gas station where it was 1.62 O.o
Sh*t diesel isn't even that expensive here
Diesel has always been expensive in the US. At the moment, 93 octane unleaded runs a full dollar above 87 octane, and Diesel usually follows 93's cost.
Thinking of getting a Chevy volt. any thoughts?
New or used ?
new
I should always use a quality mechanic, especially with a new car
Also, the new Volt is't sold here so not gonna comment on that one
if your gonna do it for the environment, then just make sure its not like the prius
not even for environmental reasons, just so @ssholes dont keep telling you your car released more toxins than any other car
Yeah most hybrid buyers in my country did that... Buying a PHEV with 10 miles of electic range, no taxes, and then driving 300 miles a day on gas
@tough lion lmao, most people justify their purchase by saying for the environment, just say you wanted better fuel economy at the risk of having your very expensive drive train will break
@stoic ledge 2.88 dollars/ gallon for diesel aka .67 euros/liter
:P awsom
Don't you mean 0.67 euros/liter ? 😛
Fixed it @tough lion
Now look, place values don't matter
10^-2 is same the same as 10^2
$2.30 a gallon here
For 87 which is what I'm putting in my Hemi, cause despite what the forums say the manual says regular unleaded
You don't get engine nock?
I fill up across the border, 43c/liter for LPG (1.85$/gallon) and 1.45/liter (6.24$/gallon) for RON98 (which is 93 in America? ) . RON98 is $7.5/gallon in my country..
No Hemi but RON95 has 10% ethanol which isn't good for my engine, that's why I use RON98
@stoic ledge what country sells gas for $1.85?
Got it, propane
Or butane in the winter ;)
My lighter and my car share the same fuel source
A friend of mine who lives in eastern Europe converted his Jeep and h2 to propane
But he gets shit milage, but it is cheaper
Honey, my grill, my lighter, and my car all get filled at my local grocery store bow
Now
@stoic ledge I can buy propane at my local grocery store
Yes but it's a mixture of propane and butane
Pure propane can make the engine overheat
diesel is 3 bucks here
@vital glen nope
Most modern engines adjust the timing. The 5.7 asks for regular unleaded in the owners manual. I think on 87 is makes 340 and on 91 it makes 350.
@vital glen he's got an H2, how small is his pee pee
@gray fox funny you say this, you got small peepee
@vital glen
@vital glen nah it's just that the H1 or H3 are better (well the H1 is cooler it's a colossal POS but that's more turning a Military Vehicle into a Civilian Vehicle)
@gray fox I own a h1
Cool
Still a massive POS but it's a cool POS like a Scooby Brat or a Levi's Gremlin
Or a first gen Cordoba
@gray fox it's not a pos
It runs trails like no other
Ok look, I might have put way too much money into it
And I am losing practically no money on it
@vital glen you're not selling it very well
But yeah if you want the hardest offloaded get an H1
H1s are going up in value
True
Cummins swaps, are worth a lot more than stock
Yeah
Put a lift kit, a wench, mil grade tires
That AM engine is trash in civ spec
Me calling it a POS is more how people are expecting it to be like a normal vehicle and not a military vehicle adapted to civilian use
If you're thinking an H1 is going to be like your Wrangler you're going to have a bad day
You really are
In '09 my dad got sponsored by a few guys over seas and a few months later and over 180k spent, a Jeep was born
@gray fox I had a friend buy a h1 then sell it a month later, he wanted big truck, he came from a 1993 corrolla
He then bought himself a new Camry
"Hey I want a big truck...oooooo look a Kenworth"
What do you mean the engine needs a service every couple Hundred hours what does that mean
What do you mean I can't fill up at my local 7/11
What do you mean I can't shut it off when it's below freezing
What do you mean I have to switch from high to low
what's double clutching?
I have how many batteries?
Wow
That's what my Magnum does with twice the cylinders and displacement
And 10 times the weight
But it is more aerodynamic
And burns 20 times the oil
The ranger, has the same load capacity has a xc90
@gray fox have a happy day of thanks and turkey consumption
@vital glen you as well
I do to like the 80's inspired look @runic beacon
Though yummy does not inspire thoughts of what a cluster is
Nah, just go ful race
Nah man
Analog gauges everywhere is yummy
@fathom socket wow
Where is the photo ?
This is a photo that I took yesterday by the way
Had not driven this puppy in a while
lel
My goldfish says its next goal is to LS V10-swap a 240Z
LS V10...?
@civic spoke you know his shit by now, don't ya'?
Come on guys...
You need to fit a twin turbo v10 in smart car
or something like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwabyPcvACc
Mitsubishi Col 2.0L 16V 4G63 engine 978HP & 871Nm with FP3794R HTA turbocharger 49psi on E85 fuel. Tuned and maped by Matthias Boldt. 0-100kmh in 3,0s 100-20...
I wanna LA V10 swap a Tesla
@civic spoke maybe he means LA
Oh you haven't seen weird until you see Jeff Lutz's kid's drag honda civic
It's a V8 RWD converted like 1998 or something
1989, excuse me
Send help
👍
@frosty geyser You take back what you just said
?
Dude Tesla has great cars
Amazing technology and plus they use batteries instead of gas
😑
Do you like cars ?
Tell me
Do you like cars, or you just came by because you saw a Tesla ?
Finally: we get to nerd out on one of the wildest builds EVER: Ken Block's all-wheel-drive Ford Mustang Hoonicorn V2. Twin turbo, 1,400 horsepower, 295-width...
@hardy osprey do you drive the car against curbs 24/7?
@runic beacon Yes I like cats
@serene scarab me_irl
@runic beacon he likes tesla
so he doesn't like cars
