It's a Starion you're not gonna find many

A Conquest

harsh oasis

it's got more wheels of drive tho

gray fox

Lame it's an audi right

Or is it a Scooby

#

Either way a Chrysler Conquest is cooler

harsh oasis
#

it is indeed a Scooby and you are correct

Though you want to know what's even cooler

A Plymouth Conquest

Cause no one bought those

@gray fox Would you buy a duramax swapped 2015 camaro?

harsh oasis

No

That sounds like a nightmare

gray fox

But I owned the laser posted above so I'm not the best judge

#

Well a black one like it

harsh oasis
#

So I have a complete 2.2l drivetrain from a rusted out 88 legacy wagon, and I just found an almost free 02 wrx wagon shell. I'm thinking maybe I could put the 2.2l drivetrain into the wrx body and have the legally slowest wrx on the planet

gray fox
#

That's a thing

harsh oasis
#

but the shell isn't complete and bugeye parts are expensive

vital glen
#

Well, I go to say
I would swap an older camaro with a duramax for memes

if I had the money

carmine summit

It's been done on a newer one

it was the same guy that put a Cummins into a Charger

#

Apparently somebody in my country had imported a VW Altas 2.0T S (base trim) for some reason... They payed €148.199, which is about $168.000 USD

I've configured the car on the US site, final price:
TOTAL MSRP $31,890

carmine summit
#

why

vital glen
#

@stoic ledge I will make the obvious joke
damn good price
$168 for a $31,890 car

stoic ledge
#

Reeeee you Americans using the ., wrong 😠 😛

#

$168k for a $32k car ;)

#

And why.... I have no idea why

carmine summit
#

nah we use it correctly here in the Americas

#

example $10.00 means 10 dollars

#

$1,000 is 1000 dollars

#

anything less than 1 comes after the . but you separate every 3 digits with , to make it easy to read

stoic ledge
#

No it's $10,00 is 10 dollars, $1.000 is 1000 dollars

#

., should be the other way around 😛

carmine summit
#

decimal point = .

#

point

#

not comma

#

lol

stoic ledge
#

Many other countries use a comma instead. The decimal separator is also called the radix character. Likewise, while the U.K. and U.S. use a comma to separate groups of thousands, many other countries use a period instead, and some countries separate thousands groups with a thin space.
😠

#

But we're getting off-topic 😛

carmine summit
#

true

stoic ledge
#

Don't really have much to say 'bout cars at the moment... Spotted a Focus RS today. Those are quite rare here

#

But I see that one every day at school so it's not that special

#

Found this one a few weeks ago

stoic ledge
#

You can check licence plates in the Netherlands, showing details of the car. Under catalog price (MSRP) it shows €149.199 , which is the number calculated by the dutch version of the DMV. This contains a) the MSRP of the value in the States, b) the import tax, c) the standard tax, d) the CO2-emissions tax. The CO2-emissions tax alone is €71.675 , you do the maths

carmine summit
#

€71,675

#

that's crazy

stoic ledge
#

Welcome to the Netherlands (: (:

runic beacon
#

So the price of the car is not 30K Euros

#

The simulation on the website, only shows the price without taxes

carmine summit
#

The price of the car is $31,000 USD

#

Europe taxes too much

#

In the US the car is $31,000 and there's a few thousand in taxes

#

like $40k at most

stoic ledge
#
  • You take the $31k USD car
  • You pay tax in the region where you bought the car
  • You ship it to the Netherlands (€2k)

Over all those cost (including shipping), you pay 10% import taxes
Over that amount of money (including shipping) you pay 21% tax
On top of that, you pay the €71k CO2 emission taxes
You pay almosy €150k for a VW SUV

So (((($31k + 9%) + 2k) + 10%) +21%) + 70k, which only adds up to €110k. So probably there is another tax I don't know about, or there are some option extra's/differt trims the "Build your own" section of the site isn't showing

carmine summit
#

border customs, ground transport, US sales tax

warm sparrow
#

@stoic ledge Hi! About car's prices, I was thinking maybe the difference is due to a tax

#

VAT

#

i don't know if prices on manufacturers websites includes it

vital glen
#

I saw a car

#

A big one and small one

#

And a dummy not realizing they were hydroplaning

stoic ledge
#

Lol I've seen that too once, on the german autobahn. Raining hard, say him hydroplaning, but still going extremely fast. Few kilometres later I saw it crashed in the guard rails 😂

@warm sparrow @carmine summit Yeah probably those kind of taxes, which in total makes it €150k/$170k for a freaking VW. I mean, for that price you can also get a fully loaded Toyota Land Cruiser (2.8 Diesel tho) or a Range Rover P400e (the hybrid one) Autobiography

warm sparrow
#

@stoic ledge I meant it could explain differences between cars prices in our countries

fathom socket
stoic ledge
#

Because it's too distracting 😛

@warm sparrow Yes it does, our cars are more expensive then in for example Belgium, Germany or your country, France, because of the extra tax based on CO2 emissions

gray fox
#

Germans where the worst

#

Honestly the best were surprisingly the British

#

As far as imports

#

But thats because you just bypassed all the factory electrical for anything cause fuck that. Put a nice A/D/S amp, Nakamichi HU, and BA speaker setup in a 1998 Lotus Esprit V8

vital glen
#

ofc

#

I can't do aftermarket anything for the s550 because everything breaks

#

if you don't use oem

#

or something close to it

gray fox
#

Yeah, they are fun. I'm looking to get my system in my wagon next year. Got the sub enclosure made. Removing the space saver spare cause yeqh I'm gonna put this Corolla tire on a RWD V8 with 400ft-lb of torque

#

Neatest car I did was a early 90s Bentley Turbo R

vital glen
#

woh

gray fox
#

Yeah installed about 15K of gear in that sucker. Guy wanted Dedicated amps per stage. High/Mid/Mid Bass/Sub

vital glen
#

thanks jalopnik

#

Well you know, if you are buying a bentley might as well

gray fox
#

Always helpful

#

Agreed. Best part it was a take over from a shop that was way out of their league. The nightmare behind the panels was horrifying.

vital glen
#

I would imagine

gray fox
#

No the factory stuff was fine. It was all the work the other shop did. The speaker wire they ran wasn't secured anywhere it was just dangling loose. They just left it exposed in the door jambs it didn't go through the existing wiring looms or they didn't make their own looms and grommets

vital glen
#

oh god

gray fox
#

Amps were just riv nutted to the back frame for the rear seats

#

Instead of making an actual amp rack that securely mounted to the frame

vital glen
#

Nah man, just gotta shove it in there

gray fox
#

And the aftermarket head unit which was a dead end which was real nice wasn't actually secured in the dash so it would fly out

#

I mean it was a real nice Denon CD player with the view meter module so I mean that was like $600 right there but that install was janky as fuck

#

I remember we had to tell the guy we were going to have to redo everything and he said he had already paid those guys 10 grand and I told him you're going to have to pay us another 15 for just the gear and probably another eight or nine for us to fix their bullshit

vital glen
#

the life of a Bentley owner who did it wrong the first time

gray fox
#

Honestly it was a fun job. It was real cool to be installing these stereos in these really expensive cars. And in cases of stuff like Lamborghinis and Maseratis to see that beneath those beautiful Italian line there was some pretty Janke shit done by the factory

#

Like I'll be honest I did an install in a Dodge Viper and let me tell you that was some sketchy shit under those panels but the worst I ever saw was behind the dash of a fucking early 90s Diablo

vital glen
#

lol

gray fox

The wiring had no looms it was wrapped in electrical tape and they were using fucking t splices

Got a question for car enthusiasts and the like. I'm assuming people here watch RegularCarReviews and Doug Demuro. I was wondering if anybody here liked the idea of a different type of car review. My idea is to get a car for around or under $1k, drive it for a month or so, maybe more, and then offer thoughts on the experience of it as a daily driver for new drivers and cheapskates. I would just go ahead and start doing it, I already have two that fit that criteria, but I'm wondering if anyone here could see themselves finding interest in that. And less so the specifications of the car and the history behind the model, but the drivability of it after 180k miles, the day-to-day of "This shitty interior killed my back during a long haul, I got judged by everyone when I walked to it in parking lots, repairs on this are straight-forward but time consuming, ect." Because while I greatly enjoy RCR and Doug, there's that personal connection with the car that's missing since they only have the car for a couple hours. And while there are some things you can google, I've found that my favorite reviews of theirs are always ones where they personally owned that car for a while before making the video.

/sorry about the wall of text, just curious as to if other people would be interested in seeing such a thing/

@heady vine, just wondering if anyone has an idea what would cause a carb to allow the engine to fire, but it won't stay running at idle or with throttle held steady. Fuel getting to carb float bowl and is coming out from the accelerator part of the carb. Motorcycle in question is a Honda Shadow Aero 750. Chevy's Volt is great, the EV1 from Saturn (Still General Motors at the time) was great, VW has awesome hybrids, and BMW will eventually figure it out once the M3 is electric or a hybrid.

stoic ledge
#

Me asking Tesla owners if it's reliable: "Yes"
Asking what issues they had: "Only 3 door handles, 2 engines, a screen... But replaced under warranty"

Yes, it didn't cost you anything, but that's not reliable in my book.

Also, body panels that don't allign, scratches and chips in the paint even before the car is delivered, bumpers falling of during heavy rain... Not a sign of quality imho

rose dagger
#

Yep, very true.

#

And if I dent my hood? I go to a body shop, they see if they can fix it, if not, they can order the hood and paint-match it for me. Can you do that on a Tesla though?

#

And how do you know you fender wing isn't slightly misaligned anyway? With that being the reason it doesn't align...

stoic ledge
#

I agree the idea behind Tesla is good, forcing other manufacturers in building electric cars. Just shows they miss the experience other brands have.

Also, hydrogen is the future imho, but that's another discussion 😛

rose dagger
#

Have you seen the documentary "Who killed the electric car"

#

?

stoic ledge
#

Yes I've seen it

rose dagger
#

It's such a shame. I'd love to drive an EV1.

#

Well, until winter hits, then my diesel saves my Minnesota ass.

#

I don't understand buying a hybrid up here. Your MPG is slightly worse than mine in the summer, and much worse than mine in the winter. And the one thing I hate about electric cars is no manual gearbox available.

stoic ledge
#

Yeah really a shame they crushed them, those were actually pretty nice cars. And for 20 years ago pretty advanced too, with acceptable range of 100 miles

rose dagger
#

The thing is, if they weren't crushed, and an EV2, EV3, ect. came out, I'd probably be driving a third or fourth gen EV1. And Saturn would probably still be around.

#

I drive 2-3k miles a month

#

That's why I had to get a TDI instead of a GTI. :(

#

Though I still love it.

stoic ledge
#

Ohno, not the TDI

#

Not sure which TDI you guys have in the States

#

2.0 TDI ?

rose dagger
#

The 2.0 Common rail.

stoic ledge
#

140 hp ?

rose dagger
#

That's the one I've got, I know the ALH 1.9l is the classic "it'll never stop" one.

#

but yeah, 140hp

stoic ledge
#

1.9 TDI was the best one indeed

rose dagger
#

My mom has the 150hp tuned Golf "sportwagen" variant, I have the 140hp 2 door Golf, and my dad has a "PD" Jetta, that made 100hp stock, he's got it tuned though, it drives so nicely.

stoic ledge
#

Or the 1.9 SDI, no turbo, 68hp 😂

rose dagger
#

I have a 1.8T Passat, the B5.5 (same years as the Mk4 Jetta and Golf that had the 1.9l ALH), and I love it, but that generation has things to look out for. CV shafts, window motor issues, lots of rust, and sometimes horrific electrical problems.

stoic ledge
#

Don't all VW's have things to look out for? 😅

rose dagger
#

I'd love a B5.5 diesel Passat, but they didn't make them with a manual trans over here, you can manual swap it though, but I'd have to find with for a reasonable price with a bad tranny, find a good six-speed to swap it with, and then it'd be painful anyway.

stoic ledge
#

95% of the B5(.5)'s diesels are manual here 😉

rose dagger
#

Most VW's have things like, "Don't get the automatic of this generation" or "make sure it's the tiptronic automatic transmission" or "make sure it's from the Germany plant and not the Mexico plant for these decades"

#

But if you can find the unicorn VW, they're kind of tanks. I have a V6 Passat, 230k miles, runs like a top, my dad's TDI, 240k miles no issues since he bought it with 180k besides needing a glow plug and a wheel bearing when he bought it.

stoic ledge
#

The german ones have nicer plastics on the inside 😅 Still DSG's with dry clutches eat their clutches, oil issues on almost every model, EGR-valve that gets broken... They don't built them like they used to anymore

rose dagger
#

See if you could a smuggle a B5.5 diesel manual over here, I'll pay you three shillings.

#

They are picky about oil, but pretty much any German car is "look up mantinience before you even consider it." Like the E46 BMWs being pretty damn good as long as you serviced them regularly and put high-grade fuel into it. And yeah, the EGR valve, but I plan on removing that soon.

stoic ledge
#

I know a guy that had a dark green B5.5 2.8 V6 4Motion manual in Highline trim, one of the few VW's I would love to own

rose dagger
#

That's the exact one I'd import.

#

Idk if I'd want a wagon or a sedan though.

stoic ledge
#

He had a Wagon

rose dagger
#

but with the V6 TDI instead.

stoic ledge
#

Didn't know you could get a V6 TDI

#

2.8 V6 is gas/petrol

rose dagger
#

The TDI V6 was a 2.5l engine

#

This, but in black would be "the car" for me.

stoic ledge
#

Oh we had that one too, didn't know it was a V6. Or I forgot, most of them are 1.9 TDI's or 1.8 petrol's...

rose dagger
#

They also had smaller engine TDIs for the Passat.

stoic ledge
#

That was the shade of green he had on his Passat Variant

rose dagger
#

but that displacement with a diesel engine would be crazy torque.

#

Much like the inline-six BMW diesels, though no manuals for that over here.

stoic ledge
#

Manual > auto any day

#

Smallest diesel in the Passat B5 wasa a 1.9 TDI 100 horses

#

B7 and B8 also have a 1.6 TDI

rose dagger
#

And I know that the power loss isn't really there anymore, same with the MPG difference, but it's just boring to drive an auto. Because you're really just steering at that point.

#

And I've sat in bumper-to-bumper with a clutch, it's not difficult, you give yourself some distance from the person in front of you, and then you slowly let out first gear, and then you idle up to him for fifteen seconds, waiting for the traffic to clear up, it's not hard.

#

Yet that's still people's excuse.

stoic ledge
#

I do it pretty often, never had an issue

rose dagger
#

And for me, it was maybe sixteen hours of driving stick until I got it down.

#

People act like they'll be stalling at every stop sign for weeks and weeks until they figure it out.

#

Hills were tricky though, screeched my tires at every one of 'em for a while, my new car has hill-assist too which is an added help.

stoic ledge
#

Didn't stall my car the first time, or the second or the third. Yes, it has stalled on me 2 or 3 times (in 3 years) but that can happen to anyone. Just restart your car and you get going again

rose dagger
#

yep

stoic ledge
#

Yeah my car has hill start assist 😉

rose dagger
#

And when you start your car, the RPMs start high, you can let the clutch out then so easily.

#

It's difficult to stall repeatedly after you learn that.

stoic ledge
#

Tbh is pretty difficult for me to stall the car, because then I have to think how I must use my feet wrong.

rose dagger
#

I won't stall unless I overthink it.

stoic ledge
#

^^ Yes, that

#

Just drive and everything is fine

rose dagger
#

Or if it's just a clutch I'm not used to.

#

My two manuals, Passat has 230k miles, my TDI golf has 140k miles, the clutch is so sharp on the Golf in comparison.

stoic ledge
#

Yeah you need to get the feeling everytime you drive a car with a different clutch

carmine summit
#

My dad's 2002 Jetta has 422,000 KM

rose dagger
#

what engine is it?

stoic ledge
#

Well my car and the car of my parents are the same brand, are equally as old (mine is one day newer 😎 ) with almost the same mileage so there's not really a difference

carmine summit
#

ALH

rose dagger
#

that'll do it

carmine summit
#

His old 1992 Jetta had 518,000

#

it had an AAZ swap

stoic ledge
#

Oof the 75hp 1.9 TD

carmine summit
#

we just swapped in a slightly newer AAZ with new rings and bearings about a month ago but the timing slipped like a week later

#

it made about 120hp lol

rose dagger
#

lolo

stoic ledge
#

Lolz

#

I know a guy that owned a Audi A4 1.9 TDI with about 500k miles, driving with no turbo for the last 200k miles

carmine summit
#

that'd be slow

rose dagger
#

Hahaha

stoic ledge
#

Yes that thing was even slower then my 1.2 Corsa 😂

rose dagger
#

My 1.8T Passat was naturally aspirated for a day while I drove it home.

carmine summit
#

I wish they sold the A4 with a diesel here

#

I want a B6 A4 Aant

rose dagger
#

The hose that pumps the compressed air into the engine came off, it was loud as hell and very slow.

stoic ledge
#

Without turbo it's almost like a 1.9 SDI (68hp), so that in a A4....

rose dagger
#

But after I got it home and popped the hood, it uhhh, was a simple fix with a flathead screwdriver.

stoic ledge
#

Yeah for one day it's fine but can you imagine driving like that for 200k miles...

#

Oh wow 😛

rose dagger
#

Just to tighten the clamp. Lesson learned:Always fully investigate before driving home

stoic ledge
#

And you can get a B6 A4 Avant here, even with a diesel 😃 😃

rose dagger
#

That's what I want.

#

Or an A3 with a diesel

carmine summit
#

yeah my dad blew a boost hose on his 1992 Jetta last year and we didn't know it was blown, it smoked a lot and was slow lol.

rose dagger
#

Or a GTD, damn what I'd give for a two door GTD.

carmine summit
#

true

#

I'd rather have a 4 door GTD wagon

stoic ledge
#

GTD is about €15k ? I can get you one 😂

rose dagger
#

Type R wagon

#

WHAT?! That's it?

stoic ledge
#

Used*

rose dagger
#

idgaf

stoic ledge
#

Not new ofcourse

#

Yeah you can get GTD's for €15k

rose dagger
#

A decent GTI is at least $16k here, sunroof and all, $18k easily.

carmine summit
#

I just don't have money lol

rose dagger
#

Full package is like $21k for a 2016 model

stoic ledge
#

04/2014 Golf 2.0 TDI GTD (Mk7)
256.277 km (about 160k miles)
€14.950

That's the cheapest one atm

carmine summit
#

I'm not sure if I can get a MK7 GTD after all that emissions stuff

stoic ledge
#

Well they are so "cheap" here because diesels are heavily taxed now and the taxes get even worse

rose dagger
#

This is my TDI, the exact setup I wanted minus the sunroof, but I can't complain, it was pretty cheap considering.

stoic ledge
#

The same car with a petrol engine is like +50-75%

#

Nice 😎 Those side markers tho..

carmine summit
#

I'll probably just stick to old stuff myself

#

It's cheap, easy to work on, and reliable ish

rose dagger
#

I love my old cars, I've got two of them, I find it hard to even think about not owning them despite not regularly driving them.

stoic ledge
#

Don't have space for more then one car so I have to do with what I've got...

carmine summit
#

you've probably never heard of it, only 500 made and only sold in Canada

stoic ledge
#

All old Jetta's are rusted away here, so scrapped

#

Almost none are left

rose dagger
#

I need something long-term and not problematic though, my 1.8T is an automatic nearing 160k miles, my V6 has 240k, so my little TDI with 140k is all I can really justify daily-driving. I just wanna get it tuned. Stage 3 tune is 187bhp and 333lb ft of torque. Stock is 140bhp and 236lb ft of torque.

#

I'd be able to pull on nearly everything on the road, that's all I want lol

stoic ledge
#

Meanwhile i'm here with 83hp 😅

carmine summit
#

I'm here with 2 lp

rose dagger
#

Wheels are wheels, if it does what you need it to do, leave it. I just know I'll get more life out of the car if I tune it, I'll get rid of that itch to upgrade for a while longer.

stoic ledge
#

Well there's not much to tune on my car....

rose dagger
#

Well yeah, I doubt any car with 83hp has a turbo.

#

That's why I always seek out a car with a turbo, I want to tune it further.

stoic ledge
#

Nope no turbo...

carmine summit
#

Add one lol

rose dagger
#

if only it were that simple

stoic ledge
#

And well, most brand new cars with around 90 horsepower have a turbo 😂

carmine summit
#

It is to an extent

stoic ledge
#

Hehe I wish I could

rose dagger
#

stares sadly at bone-stock V6 Passat that's almost stupid fun, but only "fun"

carmine summit
#

audi 2.7tt

rose dagger
#

yessssssss

carmine summit
#

Should just bolt in right?

rose dagger
#

You can cold-air intake pretty much anything, but finding a proper kit that will actually do anything good for performance not throw a check engine light is tricky

#

It wouldn't matter on my Passat (three or four bad o2 sensors lol), but for some people, it can mean another pesky dashlight.

carmine summit
#

Electrical tape

rose dagger
#

The unfortunate part is, I see cars on craigslist where they try to get away with that..

stoic ledge
#

Well I'm fine with it for daily driving, it's cheap to run which is also important for a student 😛

carmine summit
#

Yep

#

One of the reasons I want an old VW diesel. Easy to work on, cheap to maintain, and great on fuel.

stoic ledge
#

Do you guys even have LPG in Northern America ?

rose dagger
#

Like I said, wheels are wheels, rock it until they fall off.

carmine summit
#

Not common

stoic ledge
#

Old VW's are easy to maintain, the new ones tho...

carmine summit
#

Tell me about it lol

#

My mom has a 2009 Jetta with a CR140

rose dagger
#

I want an old 1.6l diesel Rabbit... if I could find a rust-free one, I'd pay like $2k for it.

carmine summit
#

Yeah they're available

rose dagger
#

idc about the miles, but they're all wrecked by the salt here in Minnesota.

#

And I'd want the hatchback, not the pickup.

carmine summit
#

I'm in southwestern Ontario

#

Rust capital of the world

stoic ledge
#

R.I.P

rose dagger
#

My Fiancee's parents live over in Germany though, I could see if they could import one for me. Lol

carmine summit
#

I wish I could find a clean caddy for a decent price

rose dagger
#

that would be the best wedding present, but I think my fiancee would actually kill me

carmine summit
#

Lol

stoic ledge
#

Shipping costs more then the car 😂

rose dagger
#

yep

carmine summit
#

$2,000 at Orchid Euro

stoic ledge
#

VW Rabbit is a Golf Mk1 right ?

rose dagger
#

I already looked at getting them to import a manual TDI Passat B5.5 before I bought my TDI Golf. It wasn't very cost effective though.

carmine summit
#

Sort of

rose dagger
#

It would have been almost $6k at least, and my car was like $7.2k for fewer miles and younger by a decade.

carmine summit
#

My number was wrong, $2600 not $2000

stoic ledge
#

I found a 1983 1.6 D Golf Mk 1 with 285k miles on it, €1500 😃

rose dagger
#

I know a guy who's got family in Kansas though, he said he goes there to buy rust-free cars. So I might roadtrip with him down there at some point to get an old VW.

#

dammit

#

that's what I'm looking for.

#

Working on those things is so simple.

#

What color is it?

carmine summit
#

If you're up for a bit of a drive, check out Oak Grove Import Auto in Dayton, Ohio

rose dagger
#

gdi it's so cute.

stoic ledge
#

I see a dark green Passat B5.5 V6 (think a 2.8) on their FB-page 👀

rose dagger
#

and only a small amount of rust.

stoic ledge
#

Yeah rust isn't that bad for a 35 year old car

#

Looks pretty good on the pictures

rose dagger
#

I met an old guy outside of a Menards that drove an old Rabbit diesel, it was yellow, he had a veterans hat on, he had a missing finger, and he was the coolest old dude ever.

carmine summit
#

neat

rose dagger
#

He bought it for like $1500, only 140k miles on it.

carmine summit
#

that's not bad

#

that's in Dayton

stoic ledge
#

Those US-spec bumpers tho

carmine summit
#

small picture but you get the idea

stoic ledge
#

Wow that's really small 😛

stoic ledge
rose dagger
#

Well, I know where I'm headed.... See you in Ohio...

carmine summit
#

lol

rose dagger
#

Those exhaust pipes though

carmine summit
#

saw that place while getting off I75 to have lunch

#

also BBS CH-R

#

hot

stoic ledge
#

I don't often see a VW that I want (read: never) but that one... 🍆 💦 💦

rose dagger
#

I find cool daily driver cars to be much more interesting than crazy performance cars.

stoic ledge
#

I agree

carmine summit
#

I like crazy performance daily drivers

rose dagger
#

But a BMW 5 or 7 series is only so cool.

#

And they are

stoic ledge
#

They don't need crazy performance, as long as they put a smile on your face every time you go driving

#

E90 3 series is also cool imho

rose dagger
#

but a nice 5-speed commuter car that can be a bit of fun through an on-ramp or on a back-country road will always have my heart.

stoic ledge
#

My brother just got one, damn 💦

#

E91 , he's got the wagon

rose dagger
#

I'm still stuck on the E46, my dad had a 330i ZHP before he got his Jetta.

#

if you bag those BMW wagons though

#

umph

stoic ledge
#

My brother's E91 is a german import with almost every optional extra... except a big engine 😛

rose dagger
#

lol

stoic ledge
#

Don't think they've ever sold a E91 in the states, did they ?

rose dagger
#

my dad has had lots of cool cars though, he had an old school Celica GT even.

stoic ledge
#

My dad never had a really cool car GWmythicalFeelsSadMan

rose dagger
#

He drove this when he was in highschool I think.

stoic ledge
#

Nicee

rose dagger
#

idk what color or exact year though

carmine summit
#

My dad used to have a white Pontiac Astre wagon with a Buick V6 and a 5 speed manual

stoic ledge
#

My dad started with a Ford Taunus Wagon converted to a panel van because it was cheaper to run 😂

carmine summit
#

lol

stoic ledge
#

Or it was a Ford Granada, not sure

#

I thought you had a Golf ?

carmine summit
#

nope

stoic ledge
#

Oh no that was Colty

#

My bad

carmine summit
#

lol

rose dagger
#

The B6 is a good generation for Audi/VW as long as you get the manual trans.

carmine summit
#

yeah I want a 6 speed

rose dagger
#

I've heard many bad stories about the autos in the B6 Passats.

carmine summit
#

I find auto boring

rose dagger
#

Are you stuck on wagons or the B6 platform?

carmine summit
#

neither

#

just VAG

rose dagger
#

Look at the VW CC

stoic ledge
#

B6 Passat uses wet clutches, the problem started then they started using dry clutches

rose dagger
#

It's a Passat coupe sort of, it's a small four-door.

stoic ledge
#

Atleast here in Europe

carmine summit
#

CC is expensive

#

I'm thinking MK2 Jetta

rose dagger
#

is the Avant not as expensive?

carmine summit
#

nope

rose dagger
#

weird

stoic ledge
#

CC is just a more unpractical Passat 😛

rose dagger
#

true

carmine summit
#

CC is ~$10,000

#

B6 A4 is ~$4,000

rose dagger
#

The B6 Passat has the 2.0T though, tune it up to 245hp I think.

#

that with "4motion" might be cheaper than the quattro Avant.

carmine summit
#

I'd rather have a 1.8T

#

the A4 is hot

rose dagger
#

1.8T avant though

stoic ledge
#

B6 Passat was also available with the R36 VR6 (:

rose dagger
#

Or 1.8T A4

carmine summit
#

there was a 3.6 Passat Wagon for sale here a while ago

rose dagger
#

I love the B5 platform though

carmine summit
#

$10,000 is too much for me

rose dagger
#

so my heart is very tender to the Passats and A4.

stoic ledge
#

Get a B5 W8

rose dagger
#

nooooooo

#

W8 is so unreliable and hard to work with

stoic ledge
#

But.... it's a W8

rose dagger
#

Just get an R32 Golf and pay that money up front lol

carmine summit
#

W8 sounds better tbh

#

like a cross between a VR6 and an Audi 4.2

stoic ledge
#

Or get a W12 Phaeton (:

carmine summit
#

those are expensive and rare

#

probably be easier to get a W12 Bently Continental

rose dagger
#

Phaeton though

#

Which you could get with a 2.8 or 3.0 V6 I believe. And that's a true luxury car.

#

And it's huge

stoic ledge
#

3.0 and 4.2 no? And some diesels

rose dagger
#

In a phaeton, you go in reverse and the back headrests will flip down if nobody is in the back seat. Name any other car that does that under $20k

#

nvm, Phaeton only came in V8 and W12.

#

4.2l V8

carmine summit
#

the Phaeton cost more than $20,000 lol

rose dagger
#

probably had a diesel in Europe though.

stoic ledge
#

3.2 and 3.6 V6, 4.2 V8, 6.0 W12, 3.0 TDI and 5.0 TDI V10

rose dagger
#

Just like how you lucky people get diesel mini coopers.

stoic ledge
#

Yes we had (:

#

"lucky people"

I can't fit in on so /care 😛

carmine summit
#

top of the line Phaeton was $85,000 US

rose dagger
#

$3500 for a W12 Phaeton with a blown transmission lol

stoic ledge
#

Phaeton Long 5.0 V10 TDI 4Motion Highline: €170.440 back in 2007

#

No wait, the W12 was more expensive

rose dagger
stoic ledge
#

Phaeton Ling 6.0 W12 4Motion: €201590

carmine summit
#

There was a V8 Phaeton for sale here for $6,000 lol

rose dagger
#

4.2l Phaeton is roughly $5k nowadays. It's just fourteen years old as well

#

that's the problem 14 years

carmine summit
#

'problem'

stoic ledge
#

Cheapest one is €1995 but it just looks like shit

carmine summit
#

I should become the Tavarish of VWs

stoic ledge
#

Ah, Engine broken

#

So is the air ride, cracked/ripped leather, Audi S4 rims, broken front bumper

carmine summit
#

If I got a W12 Phaeton I would probably put a 2.5" straight pipe on it

#

2 2.5" straight pipes actually

stoic ledge
#

Cheapest W12 is 3650€, go and buy it 😛

#

Engine works good but misses some power .

carmine summit
#

I'm in Canada

stoic ledge
#

Yeah just put it on a boat 😛

carmine summit
#

be easier to just buy a W12 Audi A8

stoic ledge
#

The easy way is not always the fun way 😉

carmine summit
#

meh

#

I'll just wait for a W12 Phaeton to pop up here

stoic ledge
#

Hehe good luck 😛

carmine summit
#

yeah it's probably not gonna happen lol

stoic ledge
#

0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds... not that fast for a W12 engine imho

rose dagger
#

The A8 or an S4 or S8 would be better in my eyes.

stoic ledge
#

Most older Audi's with big engines here change hands very often because people buy them, and then they can't afford the parts to maintain it

#

(same with the Phaeton)

#

🤔 For some reason the Phaeton was limited to 210km/h (130 mph) in Northern America..

#

In Canada, 93 Phaetons were sold in 2004, and in the first eight months of 2005, only 21 found owners.
Wow

carmine summit
#

oof

#

I should have bought that one that was for sale

#

there's one for sale in really nice shape for $8000

#

tempting

stoic ledge
carmine summit
#

if it has a W12 I should try to talk them down to $4000 lol

#

I have like $4500 to my name

#

insurance would be ridiculous

#

it's $4,000 a year on a MK4

stoic ledge
#

Wow that's ridiculous

carmine summit
#

time to get a quote on a 2004 Phaeton lol

stoic ledge
#

Lol 😂 40k/year probably

#

Holy shit $4k/year is $330/month, that's almost what I pay for my car including road taxes, fuel and maintenance

carmine summit
#

$8400 a year

#

that's the V8

stoic ledge
#

I'll get a quote to, wait 😂

#

€2640/year

#

Not bad...

carmine summit
#

the W12 is the same for me lol

#

so if I was buying a Phaeton as a daily, I'd buy a W12

stoic ledge
#

€2900/year so no big difference with the W12

carmine summit
#

also that one I just found is a V8

#

not a W12

stoic ledge
#

Only issue: the W12 is more expensive to maintain

carmine summit
#

yeah

#

and it's a fuel hog

stoic ledge
#

Convert it to LPG

#

😂

carmine summit
#

lol that's another few grand

stoic ledge
#

But it's cheaper to run (at least it is here)

carmine summit
#

If I win the lottery, I'll buy a W12 Phaeton and get a custom exhaust

stoic ledge
#

😂

#

Just get the diesel, lose the catalytic convertor and straight pipe it

carmine summit
#

they didn't sell the diesel here

stoic ledge
#

Oh wait you guys didn't get the diesel

#

Yup my bad

#

Well you did get the Touareg R50 with the same 5.0 TDI... just swap it 😛

carmine summit
#

yeah I'd like an R50 lol

#

LOTS of torque

stoic ledge
#

Wanna tow a Boeing 747? Get a R50

#

We got the same engine in Phaeton

carmine summit
#

I'm thinking a 190E with an engine from a C230 Kompressor would be cool

stoic ledge
#

Just get a 190D and run it on old frying oil

#

:)

#

230 Kompressor won't be easy to swap, all those wires and ECU's

fathom socket

first time i've ever had a tire come off while driving

#

it was a real treat and a half to experience

tough lion
#

i had a similar experience a couple of months ago

#

there's construction thats been going on for years now and they mustve got something in the road

#

the very same tire as yours literally blew up

stoic ledge
#

Oof that sucks 😠

tough lion
#

it really did

It's pretty neat what you can do with 3D printing these days. I wonder what will come from it in the future. And how much more affordable stuff will get.

#

Wheel design 3D printed in titanium.

gray fox
#

@fathom socket did you 3D print those wheels?

#

Also that sucks man

warm sparrow
#

i allready posted it here ^^

stoic ledge
#

I was thinking the same ^^ 😅

#

@warm sparrow Haven't you run out of fuel yet? 😛

warm sparrow
#

no why?

#

i've put some in my car just a couple hours ago

stoic ledge
#

Weren't the french "on strike", refusing to refuel or something like that?

warm sparrow
#

not really

stoic ledge
#

Oh my bad

warm sparrow
#

it's mainly about fuel prices, people are blocking some roads to make the government stop doing shit because it's f!ckin expensive

#

basically

#

but yes some don't go to work to do that

stoic ledge
#

Ah okk

#

How much is fuel in France ?

#

Yeah I've read about that 😠

#

Taking action isn't bad, but no-one has to die

warm sparrow
#

diesel is like 1.45 now but it had been 1.52 / 1.54...

#

i even saw a gas station where it was 1.62 O.o

stoic ledge
#

Sh*t diesel isn't even that expensive here

lime copper
#

Diesel has always been expensive in the US. At the moment, 93 octane unleaded runs a full dollar above 87 octane, and Diesel usually follows 93's cost.

vital glen
#

not really

#

I remember diesel being 2 dollars

#

now it 3

chrome atlas
#

Thinking of getting a Chevy volt. any thoughts?

stoic ledge
#

New or used ?

chrome atlas
#

new

vital glen
#

I don't recommend hybrids used unles you get a quality mechanic

#

check it

stoic ledge
#

I should always use a quality mechanic, especially with a new car

#

Also, the new Volt is't sold here so not gonna comment on that one

tough lion
#

if your gonna do it for the environment, then just make sure its not like the prius

#

not even for environmental reasons, just so @ssholes dont keep telling you your car released more toxins than any other car

stoic ledge
#

Yeah most hybrid buyers in my country did that... Buying a PHEV with 10 miles of electic range, no taxes, and then driving 300 miles a day on gas

vital glen
#

@tough lion lmao, most people justify their purchase by saying for the environment, just say you wanted better fuel economy at the risk of having your very expensive drive train will break

#

@stoic ledge 2.88 dollars/ gallon for diesel aka .67 euros/liter

tough lion
#

:P awsom

stoic ledge
#

Don't you mean 0.67 euros/liter ? 😛

vital glen
#

Fixed it @tough lion

#

Now look, place values don't matter

#

10^-2 is same the same as 10^2

tough lion
#

lolwut

#

wait, 2.88 for diesel? where?

vital glen
#

At my local gas station

#

@tough lion are you in the US?

civic spoke
#

Diesel for us is up to almost 16 SEK per liter.

#

16 SEK = 1,77 USD

gray fox
#

$2.30 a gallon here

#

For 87 which is what I'm putting in my Hemi, cause despite what the forums say the manual says regular unleaded

vital glen
#

You don't get engine nock?

stoic ledge
#

I fill up across the border, 43c/liter for LPG (1.85$/gallon) and 1.45/liter (6.24$/gallon) for RON98 (which is 93 in America? ) . RON98 is $7.5/gallon in my country..

#

No Hemi but RON95 has 10% ethanol which isn't good for my engine, that's why I use RON98

vital glen
#

@stoic ledge what country sells gas for $1.85?

stoic ledge
#

Belgium

#

No taxes on LPG

#

Because it's environment friendly

vital glen
#

Got it, propane

stoic ledge
#

Or butane in the winter ;)

vital glen
#

My lighter and my car share the same fuel source

stoic ledge
#

Liquefied Petroleum Gas

#

😂

vital glen
#

A friend of mine who lives in eastern Europe converted his Jeep and h2 to propane

#

But he gets shit milage, but it is cheaper

stoic ledge
#

Yeah MPG drops bij 15%

#

But since its about 70% cheaper ...

#

(:

vital glen
#

Honey, my grill, my lighter, and my car all get filled at my local grocery store bow

#

Now

stoic ledge
#

😂

#

Too bad that's not how it works GWmythicalFeelsSadMan

vital glen
#

@stoic ledge I can buy propane at my local grocery store

stoic ledge
#

Yes but it's a mixture of propane and butane

#

Pure propane can make the engine overheat

vital glen
#

Meh

#

I can also butane at my local store

#

Checkmate atheists

stoic ledge
#

Oof you got me there

#

Kinda funny, on hot days exhaust gasses smell like poop

#

😂

tough lion
#

diesel is 3 bucks here

gray fox
#

@vital glen nope

#

Most modern engines adjust the timing. The 5.7 asks for regular unleaded in the owners manual. I think on 87 is makes 340 and on 91 it makes 350.

#

@vital glen he's got an H2, how small is his pee pee

vital glen
#

@gray fox funny you say this, you got small peepee

gray fox
#

@vital glen nah it's just that the H1 or H3 are better (well the H1 is cooler it's a colossal POS but that's more turning a Military Vehicle into a Civilian Vehicle)

vital glen
#

@gray fox I own a h1

gray fox
#

Cool

#

Still a massive POS but it's a cool POS like a Scooby Brat or a Levi's Gremlin

#

Or a first gen Cordoba

vital glen
#

@gray fox it's not a pos

#

It runs trails like no other

#

Ok look, I might have put way too much money into it

#

And I am losing practically no money on it

gray fox
#

@vital glen you're not selling it very well

#

But yeah if you want the hardest offloaded get an H1

vital glen
#

H1s are going up in value

gray fox
#

True

vital glen
#

Cummins swaps, are worth a lot more than stock

gray fox
#

Yeah

vital glen
#

Put a lift kit, a wench, mil grade tires

gray fox
#

That AM engine is trash in civ spec

#

Me calling it a POS is more how people are expecting it to be like a normal vehicle and not a military vehicle adapted to civilian use

#

If you're thinking an H1 is going to be like your Wrangler you're going to have a bad day

vital glen
#

You really are

#

In '09 my dad got sponsored by a few guys over seas and a few months later and over 180k spent, a Jeep was born

#

@gray fox I had a friend buy a h1 then sell it a month later, he wanted big truck, he came from a 1993 corrolla

gray fox
#

Lol

#

Yeah an H1 wasnt gonna make him happy

vital glen
#

He then bought himself a new Camry

gray fox
#

"Hey I want a big truck...oooooo look a Kenworth"

vital glen
#

Lol

#

I remember all the girls wanted or owned a Wrangler

#

I could not see why

gray fox
#

What do you mean the engine needs a service every couple Hundred hours what does that mean

vital glen
#

What do you mean I can't fill up at my local 7/11

gray fox
#

What do you mean I can't shut it off when it's below freezing

vital glen
#

What do you mean I have to switch from high to low

gray fox
#

what's double clutching?

vital glen
#

I have how many batteries?

gray fox
#

Ppppfffffft I'll just get a F150

#

Why can Ford make a simple truck but you can't

vital glen
#

Lol

#

Have you seen the new ranger?

#

It gets 21/26

#

How

gray fox
#

Wow

#

That's what my Magnum does with twice the cylinders and displacement

#

And 10 times the weight

vital glen
#

But it is more aerodynamic

#

And burns 20 times the oil

#

The ranger, has the same load capacity has a xc90

gray fox
#

That's unfortunate

#

I hate cars

#

Cars are ruined

vital glen
#

@gray fox have a happy day of thanks and turkey consumption
