@primal panther Depends on the price really. If you'd be happy with a TDI Golf/Passat/CC/Jetta, just go that route and enjoy the great fuel economy. If you want speed, you can't go wrong with the GTI, though the CC isn't a slouch either.
The GTI will probably hold value a lot better though (may even appreciate value depending on how long you keep it) though the TDIs are the same way.

Both have AWD, but true 4WD will of course be better if you need it. Personally, I'd take MPG over 4WD or AWD, but that's up to you. Either way though, the Grand Cherokee and the two models I posted will all be good rides.

@runic trout The Camry SE is a good buy, Toyota is pretty damn good regardless of model and year. If you want to spend $30k on a vehicle aiming for dependability and good MPG, that's a great choice. Personally, I'd use the money elsewhere and buy something like a 2012 Passat TDI SE for about a third of the price. If that's your target price range though, it's certainly nice to be the only owner of a car and the new Camry is damn sexy.

@runic trout If you get anything older than the 2018 Camry, get a VW diesel (TDI) instead. The MPG of the <2018 isn't as good. You could also look at the 2012+ Honda Civic lineup. Those get 40+mpg
The 2003-2010 VW TDI's can get 55mpg if you have the manual transmission though. They're legendary amongst "hyper-milers"

Most shops won't install parts that you provide.
Also, if you can change a starter, you can do a transmission. YouTube is your friend, get a friend to help (necessary for dealing with the torque converter bolts), and from there you just need a jack and a piece of wood to deal with the transmission. Overly simplified, but if you're mechanically inclined enough to do a starter, you really can do a transmission, despite it seeming scary and very different.

The Tesla is more expensive too. Especially after all of the basically mandatory upgrades. And if you like having some control of your car, the Golf GTE has a triptronic transmission, the Tesla is all automatic.

Got this car for $3000 on December 2017 it's a 1998 Saab 900 turbo SE
It was nice but leaked a little bit of oil turns out it was a bad valve cover gasket so I changed it.
I crashed it 1 month after owning it in Jan of 2018... that why I have a silver bumper on a white car.
Repairs from the crash mostly done by myself then looked over by a saab experts shop when I had it serviced just to make sure my work was good and I got commended on my good work.
Replaced a screen on the interior and the radio antenna and replaced some bulbs that were burnt out.
Fast forward a couple months nothing new happens until I hit the brakes and my car starts shaking like crazy and it wouldnt stop, had to pull the hand brake to stop it and I slowly limped the car back home.
Turns out all 4 of my brake rotors had been warped due to the previous owner turning them on a lathe and making them way too thin. So I had to replace all 4 rotors and pads which I did myself.
Was browsing the Facebook marketplace and someone had posted these Original Saab OEM roof racks for about $70 I instantly jumped on it and got them and they snapped right on.
This is the car now after it's been washed.

When running WVO it's far better to run a dual tank setup, and to heat the oil before it goes into the engine. Heating it thins it, and before you shut it off you run it on diesel so the oil doesn't congeal in the injection system.

Turns out it wasn't my transmission that went out. When I replaced my starter, I broke a wire harness apparently. And that messed everything up somehow

My dad called me a dumbass for saying my transmission was broken. The mechanic told him it was just a wire harness. But I just tried picking it up only to be told. "It's your 3rd and 4th gear ratios. You toasted the tranny.".
The wire harness was only a small problem for a much bigger issue.

Hey, I'm looking at two different TDI VWs and was wondering if anybody here had some knowledge. One is a 2005 Golf with 200k miles, manual transmission. The other is an '05 Passat wagon 162k miles, auto transmission. They're about the same price, I know the Golf would have better fuel efficiency, but I'm driving a 2004 Passat 1.8T right now and I do love the space of it. My cars (outside of work) are fairly small and low powered. Daily is a Ford Focus, which is only good for 170HP....and then a Jeep which is only good for 190HP. They're a ton of fun, in their own way. I don't need a large vehicle with a V8, but I do think it'd be fun to have one as a once in a while car.

Focus has a nonturbo I4, Jeep has a nonturbo I6. I would certainly enjoy putting a turbo on either one...
I'd still take a V8 over a turbo 4, though. Easier on all of the internals of the motor not having that much boost.

I finished putting my project car back together. New motor, new transmission, exhaust work (so it's quiet).
But there's almost no insulation inside the vehicle so it's loud and rumbley. I don't mind the "gutted out" feel. Takes me back to my teenage days of modding cars. But I'm older and got that whole family thing now.
I'm planning on pulling up the old carpeting and the door panels to lay down some spray on insulator. I'm also thinking about using some thin carpet padding or ac duct sealer (not duct tape) on top of the spray.
I'm wondering if anyone has experience with insulation regardless of project type. What what's best in your opinion? Any specific brand of spray or padding?

It has, but with the parts even if sitting seems to be worth quite bit more than that. The only issue, known is the fuel tank and they're not that expensive to replace. If it's in the exact condition he's claiming I think that car can go for like 10 grand plus. The 2 red flags are the lacking title and how much he dropped it already. In my state I don't think you can sell a car without a title.
