#Flight Sims (MSFS, P3D, X-Plane, DCS, FS98...)

irea lly dont know what i did wrong
somehow cutting the engines made me float, and then unstable winds combined with no throttle threw me into the runway
i wasnt able to put the right wheel on the ground the entire landing too, i have no fucking idea how
you've come in too flat, given power abit too late and then essentially flat faced yourself on the runway, by landing too hard the suspension came out bounced you up , probably giving an uneven distribution of gravity or weight whatever
so i dont flare and i crash, i flare and i crash
if that was a performance increasing gust then the only course of action would have been a go around
(by that I mean, your airspeed suddenly increased)
winds werent even that bad, headwind of 13 and crosswind of 6, but the plane was being thrown around HARD
Is that LAX?
LGA
25014G25KT
X-RAAS said i was going too fast, even though i was on exactly Vref again, right at 141kts
Winds was 14knots gusting 25
that sounds about right for being thrown around
So you probably came in with more speed (because I assume you added your gust additive to your approach speed, or maybe the plane did it by itself? - I know nothing about the 737NG)
and if you got a perfomance increasing gust as you tried to flare that forced you back in the air
Windshield escape, go around đ€· sometimes that stuff happens
if i did go around, what can i even do differently to land it?
(I assume you had real weather)
in gusty conditions? Expect that to happen until you're very close to the ground, and always fly the plane until touchdown.
(the opposite also could have happened, and that would have been much worse)
also, you did F/D flying, right?
unless the GS is broken, you need to fly according to the diamonds until close, i'm almost 99% sure you were above the diamonds/slope
especially in windy conditions flying visual/papi is abit iffy
#1165354616993632397 message
If the opposite happened and you didn't add your gust additive this could have happened instead đ
yes
I think that looks about right
over the threshold
i came in slightly high but not high enough for nose down/speed to be a factor
seems like maybe you started to flare a tiny bit early (maybe around 50/40)
you want to do most of your flare at 20/30
yes, because i was trying to keep a stable and constant approach down to the runway, and then i was going to flare at around 30ft when i cut my engines
but then i cut my engines, floated, pitched down a tiny bit so i didnt float even further, and then the loss in airspeed + winds slammed me into the runway im pretty sure
could it be that you're not used to ground effect being a thing considering it's next to non-existent in MSFS?
i dont even know what that is, so yes
so, the closer you get to the ground, the more your plane will generate lift
a very quick and dirty way to convince yourself of that, is that as there is less ""gap"" between the underside of the wing and the terrain more high pressure gets ""trapped"" in that spot and thus you will get even higher pressure on the wing's underside
that's how Ekranoplans work
this guy studies aviation
it doesnt help that i get a landing like that, and my confidence is completely wiped out, and it feels like i dont even know what im doing at all anymore
just do landing practices without doing a flight
start off in a cessna or something small and get used to the flight model
that's what you're unironically struggling with
thank you xplane discord, very helpful
its my hardware thats causing it for sure
another day, getting my confidence blown up so hard that i feel like i cant do anything right, and i just have to get back in bed
mind you, that logitech yoke has some not good reviews
xplane players when reccomending essential hardware to fly the sim
Ekranoplans â€ïž
Honestly I reckon the Soviets were on drugs when they designed those. And that is not a bad thing
I love doing drugs (for legal reasons thats a joke)
also so nice to finally have a joystick that doesn't twitch like a junkie without his fix
what would be the best way to do touch-and-gos in an airliner?
im thinking taking off, going to the ILS intercept altitude, looping around (manually, or through some waypoints), and then just doing that
im not sure about configuring stuff if im that close though, plus setting up the MCDU for such a tight approach
Put STAR/SID in
Make it a loop
And just refly that over and over
But
Xplane has a feature
Where u can do approaches from 5 and 10 nm away
I recommend that
If u send me a ss from the xplane start screen where u selecz the airport
I can show u
Idk how to explain it, but you need to come in slowing down, eventually bringing the flare up and you should touch down solidly
If that makes sense
You want to be going your VREF at about 200 and then start bringing the power down and flaring as you get closer to the ground
That reduces float if winds are favourable and reduces the risk of a bounce
So your down
Then gently bring the nose down and throw in the reversers
But yeah I agree you should just try some touch and goes in a Cessna
Then try it in a 737
Then you can work your way up
Have you flown the Sparky yet?
You should
Once you have gotten the hang of the Zibo move on to that
Because thatâs a very very difficult thing to land nicely
oh
starting on the runway and then choosing ready for takeoff seems to be the best option
because then you can get it configured, takeoff, and then just vector yourself back around to the approach
idk if the levelup/zibo 737 has panel state options for that though
the MD-11 does at least
this landing hit like crack
i think thats about as perfect as you can get in an MD-11
i wheelied for a bit longer than i should have, thats about it
this is why flight sims are dangerous, its like an abusive girlfriend
you get a shit crash landing, you feel like you want to die, and then the next flight you get an awesome landing and you feel like your top gun
i landed at almost 170kts too
i dont know what my weight was there though, i think it was like 560k lbs GW
i dont mean to send a video of every single landing, but
volanta gave that one 1.10G and -146
i think im going to do one or two more loops before im comfortable to say that ive got this down
This
No
Totally different
MD-90/B717 and MD-11 shared similar systems
It was all the MD AFD
yeah, i just wasnt sure if the later ones had an option or something, or if they were retrofitted or whatever
kinda sucks that the only 717 we have is captainsim, but itll do
Hiya folks just wanted to ask yall which is your favorite plane operator and plane livery?
Favourite airline easily Aeroflot. Favourite livery is a tough one. If we only count present day standard liveries, gotta say also Aeroflot. If we include liveries from the past though, thatâs when I couldnât even tell, too many amazing options
Favorite operator in terms of what? IRL Travelling on them? In that case I can only speak for Low Cost Carriers (LCCs) and Ultra Low Cost Carriers (ULCCs), in that case definitely EasyJet (hopefully I'll get to fly on ITA's A220 soon đ€)
In terms of historical significance, I think I'll have to say Southwest, the big winner of the US' Airline Deregulation Act, and served as a model for all future LCCs and ULCCs, that, while might not always be the best did a great deal in "democratizing" air travel, and SWA, unlike some of its counterparts always maintained a good reputation for both price and quality. Sad to see it struggle so much recently.
Modern day it's hard to say, many operators have standardized a lot, so there isn't really one big "outlier" so to speak, I'll pick AirBaltic just because I find it really interesting the way they're using the A220, and I'm curious to see how it works out for them. Also I'm keeping my eyes on any airline that wants to give another shot to long haul low cost (since that part of Norwegian died), that means Norse and Play.
In terms of fleet, I think my favorite has to be Air Inter (just because they were the "dumpster" for all failed/mediocre airbus -and Dassault's- projects) they had some very unique planes, A300B1s, Dassault Mercure, A320-100, A321-100, etc... Other favorites of mine are Delta and Northwest and the way their fleets intertwined after the merger (i.e. Delta got rid of their DC-9s during the '70s and '80s, with some of them remaining until the '90s, then the Delta/NWA merger happened, and they inherited the huge NWA DC-9 fleet, and for reason only known to themselves they decided to keep these DC-9s until 2014, DC-9s, not MD-80s).
In terms of livery, I think consistency of beautiful liveries I say United UNTIL they inherited Continental's livery after the merger (so Friendship, Saul Bass, Blue Tulip e Battleship Grey). Best individual livery is hard, I have quite a few liveries that I adore, I'll say BA Landor, it worked on everything, from the Concorde to the BN-2 Islander, it's very simple, without being boring, and it's obvious that it's the british colours and british flag. It also lended itself very well for some "remixes" (like Deutsche BA), with the AAL Brushed Metal livery being a close second
hm, is the flight factor a320 worth it compared to the toliss?
i want an airbus in xplane, but i also dont want to spend $90 for one, and the flightfactor one is on sale for $35 right now
I might honestly just get chase plane for the physics camera and fly the A320 with it, thatâs been my favorite feature of xplane so far anyway
Iâve heard fsrealisticâs physics camera is good too, but also that its features are kind of overkill
No not really
Itâs ok
But without the matavia mod itâs a bit crap
I've been thinking of picking up aerofly4
Looks like the guy making the Tu-154 for MSFS is done with hydraulics now
Nice seeing progress on it, tbh it seems like it isnât that far off now
âNext step: quality pass for the cockpit: textures, bolts, rest of the switches etcâ
Apparently ini's next airliner (could be the L-1011) is now planned to be seen's at August's FSExpo
eating pasta while watching this is so nice
I usually never eat at my PC, but this was too nice of an opportunity to pass
Which pasta
very simple
just tomato souce
although it's actually quite weird, since it's ever so slightly "fried" hahah, it's a southern italy thing
just a way to eat old pasta
If you have some leftover pasta and you want to eat it, istead of just heating it put it in a pan with a bit of oil and leave it there until you want
some people like to have it properly fried to the point it almost becomes cruchy, I'm not a big fan, so I keep it for less time
Alrighty, Iâll try that for sure. Probably wouldnât wanna fry it too much here either
I swear, during sunrise and sunset FSX looks better than FS2020
looks better than Xplane even
Tbh that does look awesome
Tbh sunrises and sunsets in 2020 are by far not the best imo
2020 sky and clouds overall imo often look just off. I canât say what exactly is wrong, but it just looks weird
Looks so game-ifyd
Me and my brother doing a flight in the airbus 350 again đ
why is deltas boarding music so good
xd
Tasty
I chowed down on some pasta whilst doing an Alitalia flight
cause I simply refuse to fly the new airline
yeah, that might have been an issue in the past landings
Vapp on this flight is 157
no wonder im getting garbage landings, at that speed the second you cut the throttle youll fall out of the sky like a rock
and thats at flaps 35 too, in an MD-11
i have heard that VAPP +10 is a good landing speed in the MD-11, so who knows
i kinda wish there was a good DC-10 in really any sim, thats another aircraft that id love to learn how to fly
and the MD-10, same systems as the MD-11 but they kept the DC-10s length so it handles a little bit differently
yeah, landing it fast is the way to go
great landing too, definitely paid off doing some touch-and-gos yesterday, now i have that muscle memory
So thing I just learned today is there actually is one in development for MSFS and itâs looking gooood. And the devs say they want it to be the most detailed and realistic DC-10 in any flight sim ever
I mean, thatâs quite a low bar technically đ
Considering the only real DC-10 is in FSX, and itâs not even that good itself
Hm⊠speaking of FSXâŠ
How good is the C-17 in FSX anyway? I bought it AGES ago (before I was even into flight sims) but never actually tried it out
I kind of abandoned FSX after realizing that the aerosoft A320s needed physical hardware to fly, they donât work with a controller
im discovering the importance of following the glideslope all the way down basically, i didnt do it this flight, plus i flared late and ended up bouncing extremely hard, -800fpm and 2.1G landing
might need to do some more touch-and-gos at that specific airport
you really have to be exceptionally precise with where you cut the engines and flare
like, within 5ft
cut the engines at around 50ft because i was quick on the draw, and i floated hard, tried going around and the engines wouldnt throttle up
flaring isnt too big of an issue for me anymore, because at 30ft when you cut the throttles is right about where you want to start it too, im realizing
Itâs really frustrating though, when I was doing touch and gos in the MD-11 last night I got 3 great landings in a row, and when I try it today, one successful but very late, and ANOTHER crash
This hobby is punishing and unforgiving
Iâm just going to have to stay determined and practice, like most other hobbies anyway
Lemme guess the Aero Dynamics one?
KC-10 and DC10 and its freight and firefight variants
Yeah
Most likely wonât be out for a while yet
But at least itâs being worked on
Well judging by how some of the devs are military it's understandable it's taking time
Do it đ
has it improved to where its at least as stable as 2020?
and how easy is the content migration? can you just copy over your community folder?
Yup might be some stuff non functional or buggy as duck
That's a bit hard to answer but it's solid enough
im still looking at the premium deluxe too, i want the C-17 and dreamlifter
fenix announced theyre doing a neo
And they plan to release them before 2026
I have FS2024 but im waiting patiently for PMDGs 777 & 737 to make it over before I even consider doing sim flying on it
fenix suddenly doesnt cancel an aircraft project that other devs have made, funny how that works
i forgot how "fun" msfs is to launch
8 billion external apps that need launched
absolute cinema, it just crashed

Nice, that'll hopefully be the "definitive" version.
its really frustrating what happened to the max 8s for xplane, i wish i could kind of get it straightened out and archived tbh
lovely MAX 8
had to go around because (shocker) more game issues
throttled down, and i was wondering why tf i was actually speeding up rather than slowing down on the runway, turns out it throttled up instead of throwing out the reversers for some reason
they both sound the same
i did touch down very good though
i have terrible luck flying lufthansa, and i have terrible luck flying in ireland, i have no idea why either is the case
two butter landings, but i managed to overrun again, because of course i did
the throttles would just not turn off in time at all
and when i let go of the throttle down button and switched to thrust reversers, it just throttled back up again
my heart rate was probably upwards of 120 on that approach
i want to point out the irony that my callsign was silky smooth
though, that was because of my voice and not because of any landing abilities
The issue is the MTD was stolen mostly
All level up textures and stuff like that
Textures look quite flat though
CS?
Captain scam?

Their stuff isnât the best by any stretch of the imagination, but it flies pretty realistically and has some good systems depth
I went to try and fly the 717 the other day, but MSFS was the problem and not captainsims work
CaptainSim 757 in P3D was quite fun to fly in all honesty
Iâve been looking at getting their 767 for the freighter too
Amazon flies a bunch of them
Well, I was, I donât know if Iâm going to head back into MSFS or not honestly
Itâs a huge pain in the ass to launch like 8 apps every time I want to play, compared to xplane where I only need to launch autoortho
Why do you need to launch 8 programs?
FSrealistic, rex atmos, fsuipc, volanta, navigraph, fenix/ifly, couatl, simbridge, beyondATC, FSLTL, flightcontrolreplay
All external apps that I need to make sure start up and link properly when I need them
MSFS graphics and XP community plus support
Perfection
All of these are just plugins
I have 4 apps open when playing fs, Xpilot, Volanta, Navigraph, XP12
Thatâs all I need
I just open rex atmos, active sky, vpilot (if I wanna fly on vatsim that is)
otherwise rest of it just opens when I launch the sim
Going to fly BMA for the rest of the week đ
Just decided I'll start to fly one airline a week
blessed, love a good bit of BMI
thank you FSLabs
RG
im getting xplane installed on my laptop, and im really dreading if im going to have to send out some emails requesting new licenses for my laptop for stuff like the rotate MD-11
im going to have to make it an ultralight install too, so no scenery
Usually 2 here, just MSFS and Volanta xD
BeyondATC if I feel like going with it, but that isnât too often for now
After almost 7 hours of cruise, I am approaching my top of descent
Navigraph is def not required imo. Only things I have open when flying are skyvector and chartfox, thats all thats needed for me
Yep, I donât even have the navigraph sub
Skyvector covers 100% of the US
Charts, airways, VORs, everything
Chartfox has charts for the majority of the worldwide airports. There are some that arenât included (One that comes to mind is Paro) but thatâs rare. It has charts for pretty much everywhere I fly
I've gotten way too used to Navigraph to chance, it's very easy and convenient to make your own routes/flight plans
With navigraph I just honestly donât see it as worth it tbh, just have other things to spend money on that get priority
Blowing the dust off another hangar queen, just doing some patterns
Spend time rendering ortho, then fly at FL360 so you cant see it đ
Over the lake district heading for london
Finished a flight between HAAB and HECA today, which means that finally all the lines on my Volanta are connected
gonna try another 737-200 flight
the heading idea didnt make sense to me at first, but i forgot that you can still track VOR/courses AND do heading, so you can see how far youve drifted
Gonna try delta SLC-DFW, hopefully a longer flight can help when it comes to planning for descent and landing
(Altitude/1000) x3 đ
rough flap extension schedule
as a rule of thumb aim to be on your downwind/base at 180, final 160, when you intercept the LOC go gear down flaps 15, then following the G/S continue extending flaps and slowing down.
You might find it easier to be fully configured before joining the G/S though.
Looking good
its a little bit easier too, when you overfly VORs enroute your not doing the frantic course and frequency stuff, you just have to adjust heading a little bit
it just kinda sucks because your always in a state of hunting for the right heading setup to get right on course
though, i mean, the default VOR/LOC setting isnt any better either
ehhh
its weird, its like the radials dont match up with what navigraph says
do you you want to follow the VOR infront of you or behind you?
great landing in the 732, always a great feeling
especially after a 2 hour, manual nav flight
time to taxi into DFW, also known as, try not to fall asleep at the wheel challenge (impossible)
Yeah...
Unfortunately I haven't figured that out yet
The longer a leg is the more it's inaccurate, it's probably down to the great circle thing
If you follow airways I've found this number to be much more reliable
Also I always prefer tracking inbound (VOR ahead), it's more reliable as it massively reduces the risk of going hugely off course because you set a wrong course (thankfully that only happened to me twice đ )
If I can, I track the inbound VOR too
Sometimes you gotta first track outbound and then switch to inbound once youâre within range
Or on approaches you will often have to leave a certain VOR on a certain course
Here we are at Heathrow once again
departure from Teesside was fun, no derate, what a little rocket đ
I just found out that for 2 weeks in 2002 BMA operated 1 BAe146 out of EGNM in place of their F70s so after I do the livery I guess that's what's next after a few BAC 1-11 Flights đ
Ini posted about some research trip
An overnight long haul departing south from Dubai, overflying Africa
Wonder where that could be going
Probably South Africa?
I wonder what could they be researching there
That sounds fun
flying out of kazakhstan, great success
The painted over Cargo must be the best part of the livery
its really a shame the MD-11 is at the end of its service life, theyre younger than A320s and even more reliable (imho), yet theyre already obsolete
Well I wouldnât quite say theyâre at the end
Freighters have many years in them still
Though their usage is indeed quite limited
i mean, both fedex and UPS have plans to retire and replace the fleet, but at the same time, UPS just ordered like 3 more in 2020
probably BCF, but there isnt much information on it outside of just "ordered more"
Well they will of course retire and replace them eventually
fedex plans 2032 i believe
But I reckon not too soon
Honestly the fact that MD no longer exists definitely doesnât help these planes
i mean, they were being manufactured well into boeings existence, by boeing
Well, idk specifically for the 350
Overall keeping your pc on overnight is relatively safe
oh yeh i do it all the time w the 777 n stuff
Whether the 350 will survive that⊠idk
Iâve heard it had issues with the AP randomly disconnecting and stuff
I mean, I just had that kind of thing on the 777 on the flight from Vladivostok to Moscow, but this airframe alone has 80+ hours on it and this is the first time I notice anything like that
not particularly my best landing, but at this point, as long as i dont damage the aircraft or overrun the runway, its good
it doesnt help that the default sheremetyevo is garabge, theres a weird pillar in the middle of the runway that fucked me up, because i wasnt sure if it had collision or not
Why is it not dark
Also tbf, default airports are very often garbage, and from my experience, Russian ones get dealt an even worse hand because there can easily be no data, incorrect data, corrupt data, whatever
im not entirely comfortable with landing at night yet in xplane, not to mention i just prefer daytime for screenshots
They've been obsolete the moment they rolled out, arguably, long before that even
Thatâs fair
Also either your weather or my weather isnât right
Cause I landed there just a bit ago
And the conditions were dogshit
Not the worst Iâve flown in
i do use live weather, it was windy and there was the weird rain effects but thats all i got
But the whole weather radar was yellow and I only broke through clouds below 2000ft baro (around 1500 radio), and not to mention winds of 20+ knots, although thankfully that being a headwind
the live weather in xplane seems to be not very good
Though tbh, I wouldnât put it past MSFS to have inaccurate weather, cause that didnât match METAR either
METAR said visibility of 10+km with no significant clouds and light rain
that was about what i experienced
And while the visibility on ground level did seem like it
âNo significant cloudsâ is definitely not what Iâd describe what MSFS gave me
I ended up just purchasing Active Sky XP for the 6 or so months I played x-plane
I have Active Sky as well
I've heard live weather is good enough in Xplane12, but not on 11
i finally bought yoke
literally the cheapest option on the market, the CH products one, but from the reviews ive seen its not a bad option
and i got a used one for $50, which ive also seen is a great price for it
Itâs not amazing but itâs definitely passable
The old NOAA plugin for 11 that injected accurate weather was good
But the XP12 clouds are very very accurate
Like Iâm not joking
Iâve gone to Heathrow, looked out my window at the same time
Itâs very very accurate
meh, was playing around with the skyhawk in xplane, doing some touch-and-gos at the local airport, it feels kind of too stable?
like, im used to GA aircraft being blown around like a party balloon in a hurricane
11 reacts weirdly to small aircraft and winds
The physics donât really work out
12 has a much much more accurate GA flight model
Itâs mainly the weather system that works better
The actor to Ice in top gun passed away today
British Midland week continues, today back to October 1970 đ
Apparently the emirates courier express is actually real?
I donât know if theyâre going to be doing a full A380 freighter conversion, but that would go so hard
Emirates Courier Express uses Emiratesâ fleet of 250+ aircraft, vast global network and reliable partner network to deliver packages door-to-doorFlexible and fully integrated, Emirates Courier Express is poised to solve the transportation challenges of customers, both big and smallBuilt for customers, with customers, Emirates Courier Express r...
Iâm curious how an A380 freighter design, would work, dual cargo decks? One giant one?
no
they'll just use the freight bay

Also, there was an official concept, dual freight decks
Problem with that would be that not only you need the plane, but you also need to design brand new equipment
just gotta get some fresh air
not really
the low level door is easy
its just a standard loader
the upper deck would just be an extra couple telescopes
wtf, why are there blood particles in the levelup 737
bird strike
thats a thing??
im trying to figure out why some liveries for the levelup 737 have messed up engine spinners
the alaska livery has invisible spinners, and the delta one is full grey
some liveries will be built using the new model and some with the old
the textures are the same though
unless if they moved some of the engine textures to another one
found it, they did change the textures
I love that the 152 ep for xp11 even has the windshield break for bird strikes
About to start what will end up being my longest flight yet
And itâll most likely hold that title for a while, since the majority of ultra long haul routes donât interest me
This is gonna be 13:15 - 13:45 I expect
Moscow to Varadero
Iâd like to do a flight like that sometime, I sleep like 12 hours though, so i donât really trust that Iâd wake up and remember I need to land it
Doing LAX to Australia on the delta A350 is one that Iâve been wanting to do, but Iâd have to get MSFS up and running again for that
Welp, Iâm gonna be sleeping through this one as a whole
Last night I had Paine Field to Moscow on this triple set up
Just gotta know how much will you sleep roughly
I knew I had to be up by 9:30am, so timed it in a way that the top of descent would be around 9:45-10:00
Right now Iâm setting up for a 13+ hour journey, and it is 1am. I just know that any way, by 2pm Iâll be awake
Something else that has been bugging me is that new icelandair flight from Pittsburgh to Reykjavik, Iâve wanted to do that for ages, but you can only do it in a max 8, or do mid-air refueling
Regular -800s donât have quite the range, the max 8 is just efficient enough to make it
That is if Iâm gonna be able to input the fucking oceanic waypoints, why the hell is it not in the data base, what part of 7110N do you not understand
And the only options are the WW max 8 in xplane (not the most reliable), or the ifly max 8 (really not good with performance)
Trust me, just go light on payload, the 738 will easily make it
I have done Halifax to Moscow direct in a 738, just over 8 hours
Of course that was a delivery so had no payload at all, but I pushed it fast and had a fair bit of fuel still left
Okay maybe trying to fly at 2am was a bad idea after all
I just pushed back
The FMC is all ready
Flaps set
I go to turn off the APU and realise I forgot something
The engine start!
Itâs always funny to me when devs donât add it as a fail mode considering itâs something stupid like 35-40% of operational incidents
Lmao
I canât wait for the update honestly
V4
Gravel kit
Snow kit
Plus combi and freight variants
Ahem itâs baking soda
Meanwhile this lucky guy is going for a vacation in a tropical paradise (admittedly not the most paradise-y country)
Pause at T/D
Landed in Cuba, 13:40 flight time
Now can we get an Il-96 so I can do the same thing but with Cubana
CZGF Grand Forks
BMA week continues, this time I jumped forward in time again, from 1970 to 1988
Going back to MSFS after a lot of Xplane and FSX flying is always interesting
Interesting as in âWow these physics fucking suckâ? XD
Ehehe not really, at least when flying the good addons like this or the MD80
Fair
But I guess I'll decide that after landing
Really wanna try the MD-80
But probably not this month, thereâs the 727 pax coming, plus I wouldnât be too surprised if the 777-200ER releases near the end of April
Remember not to install a beta over your flying copy, if you want to beta install a second copy
Yeah fair
although I have to say that at turboprop altitudes MSFS is much more enjoyable
or rather, having the nice graphic and scenery actually makes sense at these kinds of altitudes
Yeah, sounds fair
Honestly even with jets I sometimes get enjoyable scenery during cruise
Really just depends on weather
Still havenât tried any turboprops or non-jets overall
Even though I bought the ATR
I wanna get the DC-6
Maybe then Iâll start managing propellers
the new yoke i got is okay
havent done a flight with it yet because xplane like to take 15 mins to load and also crash, but it looks promising
im not sure what im going to do with rudder/tiller
ive thought about binding it to a throttle lever on the top and then actuating it like that, up/down being left/right
especially on takeoff, keeping centered with the ruwnay concerns me
on landing you dont really need much rudder unless if the crosswind is exceptionally bad, most times i just use the yoke to center myself anyway
nevermind, xplane does have the autorudder stuff, you can steer/rudder by roll
For your airliners yes you would get away with keybinds etc
"proper" stick and rudder aircraft not so much
If you're not flying taildraggers or helos you're probably fine not having peddles
or Tomcats
The bigger planes yaw dampers automatically coordinate your turns, and in ga flying uncoordinated is fine in sim imo
i dont know if the weather is different today, but im being thrown around like theres no tomorrow
i get it now
not very satisfied with ground handling, something definitely feels wrong there
nevermind, winds are 250/14G29, thatll throw you around on the ground and in the air
especially taking off and landing on runway 31
12kts of crosswind in a cessna, lol
ive never been good at GA anyway, so not really a great starting test
and it doesnt help that the airport i picked is probably the worst right now when it comes to winds
is the performance any better
Yes, but ita a1 00% default installation so it would be. I also have a beefy system ryzen 9 and RTX 5080
New clouds and lighting
idk, i think the yoke wont be my perferred method of flying, its still a lot of setup
its like my racing wheel, its fun, but it takes a lot to set up
737 handles nicely with the yoke too at least
and for $50, this yoke is freaking awesome
i do like how the throttles and stuff are actually part of the base unit, its tiny but very conveniently located
i really cant find anything to complain about
Hey that's the exact same Yoke I had at one point
i can see why people swear by them too, this thing feels robust
It was pretty useful, but mine finally went about a year and a half ago
now I have a Velocity One đ
what went wrong, if you know?
No idea, it just started acting up completely
granted where I had stored it (on the floor in my closet) probably didn't help
hm
Plus my mixture / fuel cutoffs were also broken off (that was my doing though)
how tf did you manage that
the only way i could see those breaking is if you somehow like punched them by ragequitting
takeoff with the yoke was awesome, very smooth
im getting fuel leaks from both engines???
Thatâs one unlucky day for you then
The only thing you can do with 2 leaks is land now
Thatâs one hell of a rate for a leak too
i dont know why that happened???
i dont have failures on, i genuninely cant think of why that would happen
Weird if you donât have failures on
Must be some bug then
Cause idk what else could possibly cause that
my N1 did go red during takeoff, which ive never seen before
unless if i blew up the engines or something, but i dont know why that would just dump fuel
fuck, i missed the runway by about 40yds
flaps too hard, but i did glide all the way down
the 737 doesnt even have fuel dump valves, because its a 737
How do you even do that
Iâve had EGT norm exceeded on takeoff once
Although that was in a triple
I don't do enough Europe flying to consider investing in more payware airports yet
But pushing toga should get the engines to the set thrust limit, nothing more
i dont know, i was using the manual throttle on the yoke, but i thought that should just go to the thrust limit too, it never really exceeds that normally
i dont know how the autothrottle works with the physical throttle either, ive never had a boeing with physical controls before
I have only 4 payware European airports, and 3 of them are in Russia
Dropped it
The other one is Heathrow
I think I have 2?
Bristol and Ini Innsbruck
Wait, my usually good geographic knowledge is malfunctioning
Tenerife are Europe, right?
Are they considered part of Spain?
If they are, also Tenerife North and Tenerife South, picked them up on some sale
Well, Volanta considers them part of Spain, but idk if thatâs correct
Okay, so I guess then 6 European airports here. 3 if you consider Russia separately
Like if anything I'd want to get some of the London Airports at some point but if I'm only flying to certain places I don't see why I'd invest for something I barely use đ
Also the only reason I have Heathrow is because it was like 90% off on the marketplace
I picked it up not long before ini released the v2
So the low price was kinda to get a couple last sales in
god I have way too many airports to count
pretty disgusting I bought the FlyTampa Copenhagen on marketplace, should've just bought it from their website instead
I bought pretty much everything from the marketplace
Oh and OHare
Oof
ini JFK, FlyTampa BOS, ini LHR, DD SVO
Alright make the London Airports a priority for me cause the default stuff is a bit dreadful currently
Well you say London Airports
All of them
Granted I'm at Luton currently
tbf inibuilds luton isn't actually half bad, considering its a complete shithole in the real world
one can say the same about Billund & that scenery is actually correct, even through to the really weird roundabouts on the airport grounds
Me when I have to check all my ini products and find out there's updates
(also me when Just Flight update notices require being subbed to the newsletter due to how the system is set up so those are also very out of date)
when I just recently came back to flight sim there was so much shit I had to update it wasn't even funny
Hell I loaded up FS and no navigraph update
pretty hard to squeeze a flight in coming home from 12 hour+ shifts sometimes
it loads, now revision 2
even bought the Fokker F28, still haven't flown that yet
Me with the Avro
Avro RJ my beloved
Even though msfs runs like complete ass I still do fly the RJ every once in a while
Granted I'm still on 2020
So am I
Ngl the airports I own are quite funny when you divide them by continents:
0 in South America and Africa
1 in Asia, and yes it is Dubai.
6 in Europe: Heathrow, Tenerife North/South, Moscow Sheremetyevo, Moscow Vnukovo, Sochi
16 in North America out of which 10 are in Alaska
Donât feel like switching especially not if options for long haul is kinda limited
Havenât learned either the 146 or the F28 since I bought them almost a year ago lol
I remember the 146 vaguely
the one test flight with the Fokker went to shit as booked
With the 146 actually the thing that stopped me was me not being able to set it up to work with no hardware
It just simply wouldnât steer on the ground
I did try changing the settings
Nothing
Only aircraft that infuriates me kinda setting up the controls & all is the FSLabs Concorde
Me with the FBW A380
As for actually flying it, it was fine, I did some laps around Paro (yes I know, the perfect place to start learning a new plane)
Pretty easy to steer, challenging ish to fly
First flight was Toronto to Heathrow, went alright
Quite excited for the MSFS rendition in all honesty
Alright lets get this thing off the ground, over on Volanta as usual
Granted I didnât quite get to grips with the FMC, and the autopilot is very unusual, but I did fly
Not only did I fly, I even somewhat landed, although I could definitely feel the lack of reverse thrust
I used to clown FSLabs for releasing an Airbus when Fenix had already done one. Bought it & feel the general performance is hand over fist compared
and off we go
Monarch, v pleasing
Dragging her into Dublin
something is still not right
im losing 10lbs of fuel every 3 seconds roughly
i just took off and i already went from 20.8 to 19.7
i dont know how the zibo/levelup reacts to hardware throttles, and if im missing a setting or something
that might be accurate for climb? at the climbing rate i would get about 110 minutes of flight, and obviously youre not going to be in climb performance the whole flight
yeah, it drains far slower from the left and right tanks than it does the center it seems
i see, thankfully it kind of acts like an airbus, autothrottle will only go as high as you have it set basically, you just cant set it to max on takeoff because it will command full red line TOGA power for a split second before it adjusts to the set power
i just knew autothrottle would be an issue, yet i didnt set up a disconnect switch
I really need to do some landing practice with the yoke tomorrow
Banner towing
F28 is 28% off until the 10th
why does the plane move INTO the wind when I decrab? đ FUCKING MICRO FUCKING SOFT
For once I even remembered to move to the "downwind" side of the runway to compensate for the fact I was going to be pushed to the right, and the opposite happens
Thatâs a nice discount tbf
thats what persuaded me to buy it, that & I was thoroughly impressed with the RJ so wanted to see what else JF had on offer
The f28, Bae 146 and vulcan (if you're into it) are all incredible
I have all three, can confirm đ
I do endeavour to get the 146 at some point, just wanna learn the F28 first though im sure with my RJ experience it won't be too hard to settle in with the 146
The 146 (as a plane) is a lot more polished and modern than the f28, with things like actual decent nav radios instead of coffee grinders
If you get a handle on the f28 you'd probably enjoy the 146 as well
figured the F28 would be a good getaway from all the glass cockpit modern stuff, same reason im actually installing the FSLabs Concorde
I'm about to buy the SkySim DC-9
why
Tbh Iâve been thinking about it as of late
It canât be too bad right?
At least the comments Iâve read donât make it look too bad
i do have a complaint with this yoke
theres a physical trim wheel on the left side of the yoke, and i can see that it would be useful, but its a physical switch that physically adjusts the yoke's sensor position
so you kind of have to keep it in the same spot, otherwise your trim is going to be all fucked up
went to do some landing practice, disconnected autopilot and the trim wheel was set all the way pitch down and i had to adjust pretty late
its just best to keep the switch either fully up/down and then calibrate it with that position, and just never touch the whel
there is really no practical use for it, because you can adjust the trim with the rocker switch
oh that's interesting
its really weird, it doesnt physically move the yoke, but it changes the actual output of it, you cant assign that wheel to anything else
that might help with some planes/sims
would be interesting to see if it reduced the max output
if it doesn't then it might have some niche use cases
VERY niche
Extremely niche
Immensily niche
i dont think so, i have it calibrated for full down and its not effecting controls in any way
my landings with the yoke have been beyond horrible
extremely hard, bouncing, and then going nosegear first into the runway
its like im landing extremely fast, but im really not
137kts is my vref for a fully loaded 737-700 at flaps 30, which seems perfectly fine???
if anything it feels low
for some reason, the last landing attempt, i wasnt even getting GPWS callouts at all, the levelup 737 seems to not work well at all with multiple landings in one session
for some reason its been hunting by a few degrees up/down when holding an altitude and speed, like its bobbing
Now just to figure out why GSX keeps bringing out the stairs for the rear door for no reason
somewhat dumb question, hows the justflight DC-10?
if it goes on sale for really cheap i might nab it, even though i really dont play FSX
@reef isle
im pretty sure the cs l1011 is also very good from what he said
I don't really know unfortunately, I've heard that CS1011 is better than Just Flights' but I've never seen it go on sale
The JF1011 (even the "pro" version) isn't really anything special, I can't speak for their DC-10
I've wanted to buy this for a long time. But not even I am crazy enough to spend 40USD on a FSX plane
And I think the ini L-1011 Is closer than I thought, so I think I'm just going to wait for that and pray it's good
i totally forogt
abt that
does anyone use reshade for msfs
and can recomm a good preset
12.2 is stunning

@reef isle @rustic charm
Gonna look incredible
Gonna have the functionality of a wet toothbrush
Tbh iniâs older planes (A310, A300) are not too bad are they?
Hope they manage to do the L-1011 justice, cause that thing deserves the best
Essentially just ports of the XP11 aircraft
They are pretty good
But by no means study level
Would be good if they were ports, but ini didnât release them for Xplane
Yeah, fair
Well I mean more about the 310
Then the A310
They were made for XP
Tbh I donât really follow the XP scene
If you can pull the model from the MSFS aircraft you can still find the Version.ini from PlaneMaker hidden deep in the .obj files
Someone tested it
Itâs literally the exact same
New EFB but the model and the systems are straight from XP11
Itâs why the A310 is kinda ass
They directly ported it in a very lazy way to make millions
It really pissed off everyone in the XP community because ini essentially erased the fact that there entire reputation was built off of there aircraft for XP
One day they just removed the XP products
Not providing any updates for products that were 75usd
I still hate them for it
@reef isle you wouldnât still happen to have the Gdrive link for the Beluga?
I think I may fly it tomorrow
I'll send it to you
I will
3 hours left
im gonna be honest, still not really getting the yoke thing
i havent really been able to get a good landing with it
thats another thing that i really do not like, is that xplane/volanta dont register bounces
if i bounce, i dont want it to register just 1 landing
getting better
finally got the IXEG 737-300plus
It's officially Razbover
i forgot trump shuttle existed
Hopefully dcs fades and dies out
ehhhhh, not yet tbh
More bugs than in my garden
Shit show of late
How long has halfghan been out for?
What can replace it though?
As awesome as bms is, it's not a viable replacement
And there's not really any other options
thank you FSLabs Concorde for bringing me alot of joy
whenever you wanna work that is
My thoughts too, maybe once another viable military sim comes up it would be time for it to go
I would even say, just a good set of military jets in any sim, peaceful or combat, would be a good replacement too
@echo gorge ED has just luck on its side that theres nothing to match there game (For now) BMS is a shout.
For example ED couldnt even get the channel map landmarks in.

off on yet another supersonic excursion
is it obvious that the MD-11 is my favorite aircraft yet
im very slowly getting used to landing with the yoke
based
heli had its rotor shear off above the hudson
has anything happened since?
ugh
not really a crash, and barely even newsworthy, but two AAL flights had their wings kiss in DCA too
6 casualties reported so far
RIP
mental how an addon can be so fun to fly
Join me on an exciting vintage Boeing 727 flight from Colombia to Venezuela. The Boeing 727, known for its versatility, is a true workhorse.
Aerosucre is a cargo airline from Colombia that currently flies the B727. I joined the three-man crew in the cockpit to see how they fly the 43-year-old trijet. Our takeoff used almost the entire runway at...
The prayer before takeoff
thank god denver is denver
you can float for like 3000ft on those runways and not be in any danger of a go-around
i floated way more than i was comfortable with but still hit the very end of the touchdown zone
https://www.youtube.com/live/J3rh2V4EDWA?si=nCN0wiC4_6isYI8W wags is streaming the new map
This was on the JF farcebook page with the only comment that they are loving the new enhancements to XP12
Nice đ
fuck yeah
my prediction was right
FSS 727 pax releases this Thursday
Same âŹ40, but 20% discount if you own the freighter version
Iâve been having issues with the FJS one, so it might be worth checking out the FSS one again
Iâm probably gonna be picking it up the moment it drops on Contrail xD
The sidebar controls of the FJS aircraft are fucked up, some tabs you only left click, some tabs only work if you right click them
For some reason only the settings and the load sheet page work on the 727 for me
huh?
I never had that
they work fine for me
Like, the weird menu on the left side of the screen that pops out?
yeah?
On the 732, only the settings menu works with left click, all of the rest work with right click
I can left click on all of them
hm, im honestly not sure if a reinstall would fix any of those
Gamblinâ time!
-# smol
sad that it has to be so overpriced. At least by putting the MD-80 flight model* into it is flyable
*With some modification to of course, make it fit into a DC-9
Tbh I am considering getting both this thing and the MD-80
Does it have a freighter variant?
I know the MD-80 is missing that and itâs a real shame
Yes
Oh that is nice
How bearable would you say the default is?
Cause I probably donât have the hands to swap & edit the flight model here lol
Eeh
Not sure tbh
It's very very pitchy and twitchy while being reaaaaaally sluggish on roll
It's very unpleasant
I'll just DM you the flight model cfg if you want
I've asked in the Leonardo forum if they'd mind me making that public
Sure, you can drop it in DMs. Probably wonât have much use for it for a while since I just bought the DC-6 and will buy the 727 the day after tomorrow, but probably will get the 9 eventually

Tbh looks nice
Meanwhile I just completed my first DC-6 flight
Lovely bird
Nice đ
Forgot to send the screenshots onto my phone so canât post them right now đ„Č
Will do tomorrow
The DC-6 is so quirky and I honestly really love it
I mean, it probably is quite similar to other planes of its age
But Iâm not used to that at all
Managing the power is a whole different game
And the gyropilot is fun
Of course no vertical speed regulation
But no heading hold either
You can only ask it to hold specific pitch and roll (or wings level)
And no altitude capture either - you can just hold current altitude
And the way it does VORs⊠maybe Iâve not found something yet, but once you select the VORLOC/APP modes, it stops executing the vertical guidance commands
Basically, itâs a wonderful thing
i am only now realizing how hard it is to taxi taildraggers
Donât think I ever tried one lol
They do look like theyâd be more complicated on the ground
Anyone able to guess the chopper?
Looks to be some sort of UH-60
(Blackhawk)
a modernised one with screens instead of gauges, maybe UH-60M?
sorry, was testing out the munitions and accidentally bombed some farm near cambridge
Correct
don't really know much about helis, I just figured that it if appeared on mainstream media, chances are it was a Blackhawk
if it was russian it would have been a Hind lol
MSFS could never
a little bit unrealistic to give the pilot the bomb release button, but for the sake of roleplay and having a cool toy, i dont mind
would be fun to fly a real bombing mission, those docs are so old that some are publically available now
i figured out why it was so hard, unlocking the tail wheel literally fully unlocks it, it free-rotates on taxi
you have to have it locked for the tiller to operate
doing some MRAO map work, at least for the silver B-17s
The Vulcan looks mighty
It's genuinely excellent
Wait why is a BA plane named after Dallas Fort Worth
what?
I just more expected airlines to name planes after stuff in their country lol
Like, here Rossiya only names their planes after Russian cities, and ironically some planes are named after cities that donât even have airports/air bases
Same for Alitalia đ
Some planes were also named after Italian people too
KLM, BA (when they named planes), Air France, Cathay, Qantas all name planes after stuff in there own countries as well as externally
It's about marketing all the fancy places the airline flies
Since there are some sales going on, what are the most interesting airports in Europe?
Weird and challenging approaches and stuff
Preferably something that gets served with something other than A320s, unlike Gibraltar xD
Liking Norway at the moment
Thanks, will take a look
wtf? when did PMDG release the 777-200?
â FedEx Express [Pack] | PMDG B777-FS2 is a Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 mod created by Jviation. This add-on provides a collection of six FedEx Express liveries for the PMDG Boeing 777-200 Freighter. It features accurate aircraft configurations, improved textures, and specific cockpit decals that enhance realism....
777F
its the -200 body one though, not the -300
777F itself is not a -300 body Iâm pretty sure
777F is a freight 777-200LR
If you want a -300 freighter, you need -300ERSF, which we will not get most likely
if you look at the screenshots too, the fuselage is way shorter than the regular 777F
pmdg made a 777-300ER, and a 777-200 but JUST the freighter?
Yes

And they will release the -200ER this month too
And then -200LR a month or two later iirc
this company never makes any sense
As for the others? Well, 777X once thatâs out. But -300 probably wonât happen, -200 probably wonât happen, -300ERSF probably wonât happen
Major L that LR isnt first
Shouldâve released the ER/LR as a pack
Honest to god
In my opinion to justify the prices they shouldâve:
- Added -300ERSF to the -300ER
- Released -200LR and F as one
- Released -200ER together with the regular -200 at least, although those things are rare
Ideally the regular 300 would be in the -300 bundle too, but thatâs impossible with PMDG
Even though regular -300s are still flying and not that rare
ERSF?
regular 300s r quite rare
is that a real thing

Massive forces were arrayed on both sides of this heavily fortified frontier that witnessed so much for so many years. Ugra-Media has recreated this pivotal âwhat ifâ scenario with ...
Honestly you asking that makes me question myself
Iâm pretty sure thatâs some rather new conversion program
Properly new, just a couple years
But that exists
it is exceptionally frustrating that there is barely any proper B-17s in any flight sims
the WWII bomber, but the best sim of it is a game from 2000
id like to give the A2A accu-sim one a shot, but its like $50 in FSX, which is old and sucks, theres the P3D one but then id have to buy P3D and the plane, and P3D is on its way out
just bought it đ
ive been playing around with improving the khamsin one, but it annoys me that its only like 90% accurate, the autopilot system is half-fictional
the difference is immense
there were almost 13000 of them produced, the third most produced bomber aircraft of all time, and in the top 30 most produced aircraft of all time, and you can count the amount of times its been in a simulator on one hand, 2x of those being literally the same game (the mighty 8th and it remaster)
