How do you set up distributed power, or “banking comm” I’ve seen a lot of people doing it differently, but I have no idea what locos should have what switches flicked etc.

What about for locos in the middle of the freight of 4 the middle loco when 3or 4 engines are together like in cajon pass?

I did not play in such configuration yet, but i assume, that you would set the group in the middle as trailing geoup per instruction sheets above. The first loco needs to receive instructions through the radio, while the other engines connected directly to it, will be setup as trailing. But as i've said, i didn't play in such configuration, so if the game can handle multiple trailing groups, is a question for the devs or someone, who did play such a scenario
