Nighttime Reflections
by Ozai

The caress of rain or the dry wind’s blow,
these simple delights I no longer know.
Only starlight descends on my windowsill,
the constellations are my fate, invariable still.

Some nights I hear the cheers from down below,
The festivities do make people’s hearts glow.
Engulfed in complacence and reduced to nill.
Their great destinies they would no longer fulfill.

Though reduced to a captive atop this barren hill,
Unconquered and secure still is my fortress of will.
If I be avenged and once more quarrel with my foe,
From the Gates of Azulon their red blood shall flow!

This was her moment. The man she hated all of her life was finally in front of her. He had killed her mother, and he deserved to die. As the man came to the realization of who she was, Katara froze the water around them into ice daggers. And in a moment of pure rage, she sent them towards the man. Only at the last moment did she stumble, letting the ice daggers melt away instead of impaling the man. As the man cried, thankful he was spared, Katara started to walk away in silence. She couldn’t help but remember all of the times she had cried when her mother was gone. All of the nights she didn’t know what to do. All of the nights she wanted someone to look up to. All of the nights she wanted her mom. As if something had finally snapped inside her, Katara turned around and shot and ice dagger through the man’s heart. She watched as the man’s face turned from shock to horror to lifelessness. She knew Aang would be upset. She knew Sokka would be disappointed. She knew what she did was wrong. But deep down, it didn’t matter to her. She hated that man, and she wanted to see him die even if a part of her died too.
