I am running a dedicated experimental server via steamcmd - the last version of the client is 174.005 but the server stays at 173.879 an update gives me no change here - in order to rule out an error by me, I installed locally (on windows) the dedicated server via steam gui - same issue - am i missing something here? has anybody else this problem? is there any workaround to overcome this version mismatch or to enforce the gameserver update (other than steamcmd app_update)?

i was having the same issue, u had the server in experimental? if u had in the update to early access all servers changed from experimental to early access u just have to change it back
So if I understand you correctly, one of the last updates changed the server behavior to be moved from experimental to ea by itself?

@mild hill We are talking Experimental Dedicated Servers here, for "regular" client gameplay, mods are available, also to be considered "Experimental".
So for any regular Muppet out there: Mods for Servers are not feasible yet.

Considering there's no official mod support at all (whilst they do plan to support mods) mods for Dedicated servers (Which even in Early Access Branch are Experimental), yes, mods for Dedicated servers is mostly Academic Stage, it's possible but you really have to know what you are doing.

That looks like the save file could be corrupted. Without meaning to trivialize your bad experience and only in the name of science, have you tried loading another save? Or even starting a new game.

What could have happened is a crash on the socket threads while the savegame was getting written to disk. But that's just a wild guess. We'll have to be on the lookout for this kind of bugs.

Then the server will not try to load anything on startup and will wait to be claimed by someone.

The one you have attached to the QnA is from when the server is trying to load a save. But we removed ServerSettings so the server should not be trying to load a save now. Yet it's still crashing. Wanted to see what the new call stack looks like.
Just so happened to occur right when my buddy was having fun with a spider and lost his death create. Upon reconnecting. Reloaded that particular save a few hours later. He is very happy again lol

You don't need the extra added trouble from experimental.
But I installed it without -beta experimental
should move the server to ea and put the save there
install using -beta
that will install ea instead of exp

Now also make sure the server is not running when you run it.

i think it just says in the corner that the server will restart .. just like how it says it will do an autosave .. but it might not show to all clients on dedi yet

hi, i have a problem with my dedicated server (experimental): when at least 2 players are on the server. all players disconnects for no reason. The only error i found in the log is this:

Someone fixed the timed out error? After some minutes there is a timeout

I started playing on the save that I originally made on a dedicated server, in singleplayer and now everytime I load into the save, I am spawned as a new player and have to find and kill my old player. I've done this a couple times and have saved afterwards everytime, but I am still spawned as a new player upon loading the save. Is there any way I can go about fixing this?
It seems to be a result of making the save on the dedicated server/multiplayer originally, and now for whatever reason i'm loading in as a new ID or something along those lines

Ok, in steam, use only the EXP versions of satisfactory when using the server and client. That's the only way I know how to get it to work

your welcome. There's a bug in the EA version still left that they need to fix. It will be a while before they can do that
you can still go into experimental branch with the dedicated server ... just add "-beta experimental" to the startup command of the dedicated server (if you can edit it with your provider) ๐

that depends on if you are running the exp or ea build for the dedicated server. If you are running the ea build then the wiki is fully up to date

The ID is the same for both EXP and EA, the only difference is you put a -beta experimental flag into the update arguments when you download the update.

Me and a few mates are having the same issue aswell. Where machines are running at 50% efficiency even if everything's done right. Kind of gamebreaking, is there an obvious reason we're missing why this could be happening? The server's usage of its ram and cpu isn't even above 50%. We're also having "glitches" where items teleport along conveyer belts.
modem/router 1 (firewall disabled) -> router 2 (port fwd'd) -> dedicated server (firewall has ports opened)
@echo dragon If you used the SteamCMD to install the dedicated server, it's easy to get a second one going, the only thing you have to do is use different ports in your startup command.
Running the following for example:
.\steamcmd.exe +force_install_dir C:\GameServers\SatisfactoryServer1 +login anonymous +app_update 1690800 validate +quit
.\steamcmd.exe +force_install_dir C:\GameServers\SatisfactoryServer2 +login anonymous +app_update 1690800 validate +quit
Will create two servers in their own directories.
You will then need to run your FactoryServer.exe file something like this:
Server 1:
FactoryServer.exe -log -unattended -ServerQueryPort=15777 -BeaconPort=15000 -Port=7777
Server 2:
FactoryServer.exe -log -unattended -ServerQueryPort=15877 -BeaconPort=15800 -Port=8888
You can really use any port choice, but know that satisfactory will auto increment if it finds a conflicting port assignment.
@echo dragon Then in your dedicated server manager in game, you add the server with the same port as the ServerQueryPort.

When you run steamcmd, you can add a -beta experimental to download the Experimental branch's server
but if you're on EA (Early Access) and not Experimental then you can omit that flag on the steamcmd.

If it was already at experimental, do -beta public instead of omitting -beta
You mean running a dedicated server on the same machine as the client? Try using localhost or 127.0.0.1 instead of your public IP, if you haven't already.
So i have noticed that my server is now saving games to a different folder other than the one named server, and when i go to load saves in the server menu i no on longer see my most recent save, if i move the save to the server folder and try to launch that save it crashes the server. Is anyone else having this issue?

make sure you are using the right IP address..
you will need to be using the same one that you would give to others to connect to the server.

and the ip you will want to use to connect to your server will be the ip that shows up when you go to google and type "my ip"
It does, but using your network's public IP from inside the network requires functionality most home routers do not have

So to avoid confusion, use your local IP to check the server is working, and an external machine to test the external connectivity.
though now that I checked I used yougetsignal to check my if ports are open and it says its closed

Again, that's unlikely to work. A router looping a NAT back to a local connection like that isn't often supported.
Unless you want to risk wasting time on something that will never work (unless you know your gear supports it, of course), test it from an external source.
works quite well with my asus router.. didnt have to do anything special other than adding in the port forwarding

Implemented a mechanism that routes all server packets through the query beacon, in effect reducing the number of ports that need to be open/forwarded to 1, simplifying setup.

You don't need to change anything, but if you were to set it up from scratch now you'd only need one of the ports. Although, that version has shown itself to be pretty unstable. I switched away from experimental because of it, it caused a lot of crashes for me.

it should indeed automatically restart every 24 hours to ensure stability and performance. Many game servers will recommend for you to do that, they went a step further and just did it. If its not coming back up automatically after a short while, put a bug on the QA site with all the information

Maybe try one of those external port verifier sites? If you can get to it on your LAN and they can't, its pretty much gotta be not forwarded properly. Make sure you're doing tcp/udp both or have correctly set which is tcp and which is udp.

Steam generally only lets you run one product from your library at a time. however once the server is downloaded you can run its start script directly rather than via the Steam library and you're off to the races.

How are the dedicated servers working so far. I usually host games and when my friend joins i'm below 50 fps pretty much the whole game. I'm able to connect to my dedicated server and i'm 144 locked pretty much all the time

Hmm, i really love the dedicated servers, however. Since 2 or 3 experimental updates ago, i can no longer (because i used to be able to) connect to the server, i am getting connection timed out very regularly. Oddly started happening when that network feature was announced to control its bandwidth

Tip for everyone who host multiple servers. Ark survival evolved use the same poort as satisfactory port: 7777. You can use -port:8000 in startup to host on other ports
any unreal engine games share that default port, fwiw ๐

If you are using one vm per server you just forward different ports to the public and leave the internalports as they are.

Yeah, this is why I dislike this bug personally, but usually I just go by the output of the machines, as the input always seems to match into the next machine no matter how buggy the belt looks.

@clear frigate currently the new Single Port approach is very 50/50, it'll either work fine or wont work fine. there have been many bugs with it (check the thread on it in this channel)
I would recommend you stay on Early Access, as there are no new functional changes to the game right now between Early Access and Experimental, other than the single port change

I would guess, that the problem here really is that -log can be used in: The UE Editor, Any UE Game and Dedicated Server binaries.
so one would assume that they just use the same code path on windows to throw open a new log window, no matter the binary.

The frequent server side updates being pushed is kind of an issue because the server keeps doing the automated restart and then not coming back up because it needs to be updated or something.

It's a Windows VM running the server. Client side I'm running the 879 EA build. It doesn't seem like it has the switch in the update script to run EA so it might still be on Exp.
Ahh, so it is running EA then. Not sure what they did with the server that it is running EA without the switch in the update script to download the EA patches.
If you search the log file for the word build it'll show the version :) if that's of use.

This is unfortunately coming from arms length since I'm just reporting back what the server owner is reporting.
They are technical at more of a tinkering level rather than professional so they may be misreading or operating it in an inefficient manner.

Ehh, wouldn't hurt to have that as a feature down the road, have it check and auto-update as default behaviour on launch. Then you can have a launch option to disable auto-check if you want to run a particular build.

stupid question... i had my server working and friends could connect. now i installed nssm and am running as a service and its forgotten the server information. I have recreated it and was trying to upload the save, but it looks like possibly the path is different now to where the game saves are to load from? i dont see an updated game save available to upload

using some shell or whatver u put things in different places so u have to check what your using to see what is setup for

C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames\server is where the save files reside when running under NSSM, unless you made the service start as your user.

No, it uses multiple cores/threads. However, as the game uses a single thread for many of it's calculations, your server will be heavily dependent on the speed of a single core. The main thread will spawn worker threads as needed, yet the majority of the server's work is done within a single core.

That is correct. To change ports and such, you'll need to use the launch commandline and associated arguments to adjust.

They may or may not. We haven't seen a roadmap of what they plan to do with the Dedicated Servers. I suspect some of the functionaity that you're comparing to may be created later by mods and then possibly rolled in a long way down the line.
