If your vehicle is equipped with only USB-A ports then this would appear to be a cable chipset issue. Newer OEM cables utilise a chipset that facilitates fast charging and broader communication capabilites between devices; ie USB-C type cables. USB-A type cables do not. After some fairly extensive testing it has been found that only USB-C OEM cables or the aftermarket equivilent (that carry a C89 chipset) are 'capable' enough of handling CarPlay function on newer, higher powered handsets on certain vehicles. If you are attempting to use CarPlay from a newer handset with an older USB-A type cable, it is likely to overload its capability and cut out after just a few minutes requiring a disconnect/reconnect to re-establish communication (only for it to then cut out again a few minutes later).

As for options, you can try:

- Updating software/firmware on both devices.
- Replacing your older USB-A cable with a newer version equipped with a C89 chipset.
- Adding a USB-A to C converter and using the USB-C cable that was supplied with the handset.

If you're willing to give any of these a try, let us all know how you get on.

Mini: start carplay... car tells me to look for bluetooth minixxxxx on iphone.
Iphone: I can see the mini, I ask it to connect.
Both car and mini: give me a code and ask if code is correct to pair, I say yes.
Iphone asks; share contacts? Yes.
Iphone asks; allow carplay? Yes.

Then it start to set it all up. After a minute, the setup screen dissapears, I see connectin for a second and then it tells me my iphone isn't compatible with carplay.

As those chips are only connected to the negotiation-pins, not the actual data pins, and only used momentarely during initial connection forming.
So the actual power and data pins aren't any different between A - C and C - C cables.
Crap cable can be marginal and cause the data connection to drop because of too many errors or like, but that doesn't care about the connectors.

Steps 2. After setup is complete I get "fail".

But I noticed wifi settings getting added to iPhone for carplay, but not used. So what I did was.

Steps 3. Go into carplay mode on car.
Steps 4. Go to wifi, find your wifi carplay network and manually connect to it.

After the handshake, it seems the car wants to instantly connect to wifi. But if that's not ready yet it gives errors or something.
So brute force it with wifi works.

They are all waterproof which is nice. I do have a Samsung tablet and it is nice, but it lags sometimes.
