#

And that was the point?
WU is the download(er) I meant in the previous message.

night girder
#

Ah, sorry my bad misunderstood you ๐Ÿ™‚

twin dew
#

But the DMRC & WMIS tell the WU to get a driver right now, outside of normal WU update check cycle.

night girder
#

I though you meant the metadata* handles a big part of the WU driver support...

twin dew
#

But might not be the case when I look closer.
Can be just populating stuff for the Settings\Devices screen.

night girder
#

Baldur you interested in FSR source code? hehe

twin dew
#

Not really.
I know it is available.

night girder
twin dew
#

The earlier versions have been for some time.

night girder
#

Ah, I got another question for you.

twin dew
#

So FSR 1.0.0 source was released 2021-07-14 it seems.
With two later updates for 1.0.1 and 1.0.2.
Then FSR 2.0.1 was released in 2022-06-22, with later updates.
And now FSR 3.0.3.

night girder

I know about G-sync right. And we also have G-sync compatible. If I understand correctly, G-sync = Nvidia only. "G-sync compatible" is open standard, so both AMD and Nvidia. My monitor is G-sync (mot G-sync compatible afaik). But AMD Adrenalin picks this up somehow, and enables AMD freesync premium. So I disabled G-sync on my monitor and now it's also turned off in Adrenalin. I was just confused why AMD would enable it for a G-Sync monitor ๐Ÿ˜’

twin dew
#

G-Sync means the Nvidia HW module originally.
G-Sync Compatible means that no HW module, but Adaptive Sync with Nvidia checking done to make sure it is up to their standards.

#

G-Sync HW monitors only have one DP connector.

#

Nothing else.

#

So what monitor?

night girder
#

AOC 27G2U27

twin dew
night girder
#

Still got the box next to me, nowhere does it state freesync or anything Only G-Sync. In the settings of the monitor I also only find G-sync. Now it can be that AOC get's money from Nvidia to push this feature hehe

twin dew
night girder
#

Yeah, doing the same. Reading it too.

twin dew
#

So marketed as both Freesync Premium, and G-Sync Compatible.

night girder
#

but that's BK. So not sure if it's totally the same ๐Ÿ˜’

twin dew
#

the /BK means color, black.

night girder
#

that's stupid. Since mine is also black ๐Ÿ˜‚

#

Ok, but that explains it.

twin dew
#

Just left out from the code you "know".

night girder
#

They should put it on the freaking box though. AOC.

#

On 4 sides of the box, it has the Nvidia logo with "G-sync".

#

nowhere it says AMD. No love for AMD.

#

IF, I can get my system stable. I might buy a 1440p monitor like a lot of people have suggested. But that's another stroy.

twin dew
#

But I got an error in Prime95!

#

Continuing the Curve Optimizer undervolting stability testing now with the RAM and IF OCs in place.

#

And Core 6 wasn't getting enough voltage.

twin dew
#

No.
Still haven't gotten the 7800X3D to actual usage XD

Been stuck in other stuff and still using 4670K as main machine.

Hoping to actually build the machine during christmas time.

night girder

Ah the 5700X3D

#

Q1 2024 (rumored)

twin dew
#

5500 would be really weird to actually happen, as that used the APU die, which AFAIK doesn't even have the taps for the V-cache die.

#

So I really don't believe those rumors.

#

For either of them.

sharp oasis
#

5500X3D could just be a more cut down 5600 die. That might make some sence

IIRC the source was MLID again, who is very hit and miss.

Yeah that doesn't make sence

It'd be nice tbh

pure karma

so it just leads to a giant mess

edgy hazel
#

tbh once you add RGB you're kinda fucked from the get-go. But if you want some honest advice:
(You need a lot of velcro/cable ties (velcro is better))

  1. pair cables together that have the same location going out to the main compartment
  2. Split these up into categories like Power, Data and Fan/RGB (you can put both together)
  3. Velcro them together in different directions so you can attach them to each other and don't need to fix them to the case
#

3 is more a bonus action since you can also just have them loose

pure karma
#

yea execpt whit the layout of this case 3 is really freaking hard to do

#

thats what i need to do but nothing lines up

edgy hazel
#

for lining up you need to have step 1 down to a science

#

step 3 is only attaching them to each other so they stay put

#

and it's also mostly cosmetic

pure karma
#

i can probably do 3 by having the 24 pin and dual cpu power going trough the side but cpu power has to go back again just to come back out

#

it might work but idk if there long enough

edgy hazel
#

yes

pure karma

but il just try difrent combos and see what gives what

edgy hazel

don't do anything you just said

pure karma

its mostly just the hubs im woried about

edgy hazel

hubs are trash

pure karma

pure karma

the problem whit daisy chaining is i have no way to manage it it just turns into a strip of mess

pure karma
#

my 6 al 120 v2's use custom conectors so i need atleast one hub

edgy hazel
#

No I mean hubs are actually trash. Made for a landfill. Do not use them unless you're close to the powerlimit or the interface of your motherboard

pure karma
#

well i have to use one because of custom cables

#

cant plug directly into the mobo

#

only the garbage calibration deepcool fans use normal conectors

edgy hazel
#

You know that adapters exist and are usually in the package

#

A hub

  • needs another power cable
  • forces all your cables to terminate into one location
pure karma
edgy hazel
#

Use splitters and daisy chain as much as possible. Hubs make cable management a nightmare

pure karma

cant for these tho and i hate it too

Ooh New stable BIOS version with AGESA 1.1.0.1 \o/

#

So time to finally update once this current test finishes.

twin dew

Then to set all changes in BIOS again...

#

Ooh New option: "Log Transparent Errors"! So the AGESA should now report even errors that didn't affect anything yet via the MCA register!

twin dew

#

Or might it just work, as the new AGESA version is supposed to be able to run IF stable while clocked higher than before...

night girder
twin dew
#

ASRock was already on 1.1.0.0 AGESA for some time.

night girder
#

Baldur I am so confused.

twin dew

I upgraded from 1.0.0.7c.

#

ASRock AM5 boards are on 2.02 BIOS version with 1.1.0.0 AGESA.

night girder
#

I do load UEFI BIOS defaults. And now everything ODT impedance is put to auto too ๐Ÿ˜’

twin dew
night girder
#

I dont understand where all these OC came from. I do load defaults multiple tiles

#

My point is: I am getting different โ€œdefaultsโ€

twin dew
#

Those are whatever the BIOS is set to set.

#

And can change between BIOS versions.

night girder
#

Probably

#

Hehe this processor ODT impedance is in 4 places in bios. The DDR bus, flck and dram.

#

The DRam processor ODT impedance is set to 53.3 ohm. Putting it on auto.

#

ProcODT: Processor On-Die Termination Impedance. The resistance which a memory signal travelling to the CPU terminates at. This reduces signal noise and lowers how much the signal over- and undershoots the voltage that the signal should be sent at. From what I understand, going too low can allow signal noise to send faulty signals to the memory, but going too high can actually cause a signal to be absorbed and not reach the processor. This defaults to 53.3ฮฉ.

#

Probably changed with the EXO profile. Since if you overclock RAM, it seems people advice to change this value too.

twin dew
#

Depends on MB, BIOS version, RAM you have etc.
No single default.

night girder
#

There is defaults. From amd.

twin dew
#

Mine is at 48.0 with Auto right now.

night girder
#

I can't find it in HWinfo (yet)

twin dew
#

At anothers I have screenshots of I have had it at 43.6 and 48.0 ohm.
Because that is one of the values that gets adjusted during the memory training.

#

ZenTimings shows those.

#

And HWiNFO might show in the non-sensor portion.

night girder
#

ctrl + f function would be handy in HWinfo ๐Ÿคฃ

#

huh, so it went from 53.3 to 60.0. Isn't that even worse. "but going too high can actually cause a signal to be absorbed and not reach the processor"

twin dew
#

No, the point with those is that they are there to absorb reflections etc.
And what you need isn't fixed.

night girder
#

A signal being absorbed and not reaching processor sounds bad.

twin dew
#

Also, higher the value, less it takes power.

#

Because those explanations about what is happening are crap.

night girder
#

C'mon ๐Ÿ˜„

twin dew
#

It is impedance matching circuit termination resistance.

night girder
#

Ok ok. I understand you.

twin dew
#

And the whole point of those is that it needs to be matched to the actual current config.

night girder
#

let me google more. It's hard to find good information on these niche things like processor ODT impedance.

twin dew
#

In electrical engineering, impedance matching is the practice of designing or adjusting the input impedance or output impedance of an electrical device for a desired value. Often, the desired value is selected to maximize power transfer or minimize signal reflection. For example, impedance matching typically is used to improve power transfer fr...

night girder
#

Yeah, I read that. Didn't understand it. Electricity is my weakness.

twin dew
#

Termination resistors are electronic components that are used in digital communication systems to prevent signal reflections and ensure that the signal is transmitted correctly. In a digital communication system, the signal is transmitted as a series of 1s and 0s. These signals travel along transmission lines, such as wires or cables, which have a characteristic impedance.

When a digital signal travels along a transmission line, some of the energy is reflected back towards the source due to the impedance mismatch between the transmission line and the source. This reflection can cause distortion of the signal and reduce the signal quality, leading to errors in the data transmission. Termination resistors are used to match the impedance of the transmission line with that of the source and prevent signal reflections.

Termination resistors are typically placed at the ends of the transmission line, where they absorb the energy of the reflected signal and minimize signal distortion. They can be either passive or active components, depending on the type of communication system being used. In some cases, termination resistors are built into the source or receiver circuitry.

#

But basically because the impedance etc. of the RAM and the RAM bus isn't static, and depends on CPU installation, MB, RAM sticks used etc. the termination resistances are dynamically adjusted.

#

And there isn't single "right" one.

night girder
#

I am reading an article here that states that even temperature can affect it? The impedance?

twin dew
#

Yes, because both resistance and capacitance can change with temperature.

#

All of these are resistances that are tuned:

night girder
#

Ok, fuck it. I leave it at auto. I wonder how many other settings are not on auto in my bios tired_jace

#

Still interesting to learn the finer details.

twin dew
#

That is what my MB on 1602 BIOS with AGESA 1.0.0.7c set for my setup at the 6000MT/s RAM speed and tuned timings.

night girder
#

I still want to know what I did wrong though, to get a mobo this funky. Yes, I know it can be BIOS update, but still. This seems all a bit extreme for a bios update to do.

#

And the other thing is, when I do auto, it wants to put FCLK back to auto too. And the auto-update thing from Asrock hehe

twin dew
#

In theory having it on Auto too would be the right thing as default, but not if the BIOS sets the IF to 2000 on Auto...

night girder
#

Guess not.

#

Well, I let the game run for 7-8 hours yesterday without a crash.

#

I have to go out today, but I probably let the game runm in the background to see what happens.

#

The only thing i am interested in is this MCLK/FCLK ratio of 1:1.

twin dew
#

That is default when RAM is at 6000MT/s or lower.

night girder
#

No. I was dumb.

#

UCLK and MCLK have a 1:1 ratio for zen 4. And FCLK is async with it.

twin dew
#

Yup, and FCLK can be anything now, when it too needed to be synced on AM4.

night girder
#

And that seems to be correct if I read HWinfo ๐Ÿ™‚

twin dew
#

Having the FCLK be 0.75x UCLK/MCLK gives tiny bit of latency benefit compared to just below and above that, but few steps more up already erases that benefit.

#

So with 6000MT/s RAM, 2000 FCLK is good, 2033 is bad idea mostly, 2066 depends and 2100 is always better.
But if the CPU cannot do that 2000, then no use trying.

night girder
#

I also read more reports of Asrock and funky auto FCLK readings. Can be fixed with bios updates, but I have latest bios update already installed.

twin dew
#

The reading is right, the funkiness is ASRock setting it too high by default.

night girder
minor pawn
#

This is began to happen ;-; (don't mind the dust i have to cleean it soon)

night girder
twin dew
#

Because same is true for lower RAM speeds, that higher IF helps performance.
Just that for 4800MT/s, the "optimum" is 1800MHz FCLK, then 1833 is bad idea and 1866 is already better than 1800.

#

Sorry, that was wrong...

#

1600MHz would be the "Optimum" for 4800MT/s.

#

But actually anything above 1633 would be better than that.

night girder
#

So, if I overclock my RAM, then I might need to update the FCLK again?

twin dew
#

And the 1733MHz AMD default would be the "optimum" for 5200MT/s RAM.

night girder
#

Gotcha. ๐Ÿ‘Œ

twin dew
#

And if it is, then then point is to start raising it until you get problems, and drop one or two steps back down from that.

#

Also, max FCLK and what VSOC is set to have inverse relationship on Raphael for some reason.

#

So the FCLK might work at the 2000 now that the VSOC isn't 1.20 or 1.25V anymore.

#

But one step at a time.

#

High VSOC helps RAM OC, but nerfs the IF OC.

Anyway, have to go. ๐Ÿ‘‹

In physics, a standing wave, also known as a stationary wave, is a wave that oscillates in time but whose peak amplitude profile does not move in space. The peak amplitude of the wave oscillations at any point in space is constant with respect to time, and the oscillations at different points throughout the wave are in phase. The locations at...

It's one of those dirty tricks insurance companies use and a lot of people fall for it

night girder
#

That's not legal in my country I think. We can report that to a "consumer organisation" (called "Testaankoop" over here), who handle legal stuff for the consumers.

#

And if they think it's not legal, they will go to court on the behalve of all consumers.

visual tree
#

I could report the company (which is the largest insurance company in the country) but I guess they would get away with it since insurance companies have very good lawyers....

night girder
gilded helm
#

That reminds me of someone I knew years ago running a convenience store. They had a 4 for $5 special on items priced at $1.25 like candy bars. And it worked.

jagged snow
#

That's amazing ๐Ÿคฃ

visual tree
#

I hate how a company that operates trains here can't let people pay for ticket or ticket fees with a bank card inside the train. There is a 2G/3G signal literally everywhere and that is more than enough for a POS device

#

Ticket inspector got mad because I had to pay a โ‚ฌ0,93 fee for a fast train inside a car and gave her a โ‚ฌ10 bill lol

night girder
#

We have to pay a fine if we want to pay on the train itself. You too?

edgy hazel
#

I would never buy a ticket ever again, only when I see an inspector

night girder
#

I believe it's like 1 euro extra if we pay on the train itself. let me check.

edgy hazel
#

here if you don't have a ticket and get caught you have no chance to buy one. -60โ‚ฌ

night girder
#

Nvm. It's โ‚ฌ9 on top of the original price if we pay on the train.

visual tree
night girder
#

And we can only pay electronic, not cash on the train. The opposite it seems from asablic? The world is crazy ๐Ÿคช

visual tree
#

I hate cash ๐Ÿ’€

#

Funny how the company has an app to buy tickets but you can't pay a fee for using a fast train...

#

So you either have to show your train ticket and pay the extra fee in the station or in the train

night girder
#

We even gotta pay for our dogs ... that's why I avoid trains as much as possible over here. Freaking gold sink.

visual tree
night girder
#

Someone: "Why do people keep using cars..." - Me: "Why the hell not with all these silly rules..."

edgy hazel
#

gemany ticket rules lol 50โ‚ฌ/mo, germany wide and all trains except like the fast trains

visual tree
#

5 years ago, we had "fast trains" that stopped in each train station

night girder
#

Oh, IC trains?

visual tree
#

At least the inspectors didn't require you to pay a fast train fee since people would kill you if you tried to do that

night girder
#

That's shitty.

visual tree
#

Here, trains never arrive on time

edgy hazel
#

Yes

night girder
#

is it ok, if germans make fun of germans? and are we allowed to laugh?

visual tree
#

*Moves to Germany

#

Unless you were sarcastic

night girder
#

because the other videos are pretty funny too ๐Ÿ˜‚

night girder
visual tree
#

Yeah, german trains are late

night girder
#

Ok, then move to germany ๐Ÿ˜„

visual tree
#

And I always thought german trains were on time like in Japan

night girder

Have you seen the video below? "me on a sunday in Germany"

night girder
visual tree
visual tree
#

Always though it was plastic and had to remove it and throw it in the plastic bin ๐Ÿ˜…

night girder
#

Hahaha, he is pretty funny. Ngl.

edgy hazel
#

the main issue I have with his channel

night girder
#

he is German?

edgy hazel
#

it's just too accurate and I don't like it

night girder
#

So you fence on Sundays in the forest?

visual tree
#

Here, we only get 7 eurocents per bottle though ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

edgy hazel
#

25 here

#

well depending but the plastic ones are 25

night girder
#

we gotta pay for plastic garbage collection, we don't get money for plastic bottles.

#

Only for glass bottles (depending if it has recycle icon on it or not).

visual tree
#

Read an article recently comparing bottle deposit prices in EU. Finland has like 40 cents for some bottles

#

And we have the lowest fee in EU....

edgy hazel
#

but yeah most cities in countries without pfand are just littered

#

London is a good example

night girder
#

I am just confused.

#

So some countries, pay their citizens to return plastic bottles?

#

And other countries, make their citizens pay a plastic tax. And on top of that, we gotta pay for the garbage collection too!

edgy hazel
#

no you pay 25ct more when you buy a plastic bottle and then you get it back in the stores when you return it

night girder
#

That makes more sense.

#

But we also pay a tax on plastic. We never get the money back though.

visual tree
night girder
#

New law of this year in Belgium, and I think it's a good one, plastic bags in ALL shops are forbidden to be free.

edgy hazel
#

I just use paper or use my reusable fabric ones

night girder
#

We had a culture that every shop gave you a plastic bag for your grocceries or whatever for free. Now they ask 0.10 - 0.30 cent for it.

night girder
#

At the entrance of my groccery store, there is a big bin with left over carton boxes from all the products. I just pick up a box and put my groceries into that.

#

Two flies, one stone. It's free for me. And I am recycling ๐Ÿ˜„

edgy hazel
#

reuse*

edgy hazel
#

REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE IN THAT ORDER

#

I fucked it up

visual tree
night girder
#

It works. People don't want to pay 0.30 for plastic bag hehe

visual tree
#

I always carry a canvas bag with me and feel guilty if I leave it at home and have to buy a plastic bag hehe

night girder
#

I always forgot my canvas bags. And I say bagS, because I have a whole collection of them. Forget bag. Buy new recycleable bag. Forget the bag again. Buy new one ๐Ÿ˜‚

#

So I stopped doing that. And just carry it in my hands, put it in my backpack. Or carton box if possible.

edgy hazel
#

I **stay **organised

visual tree
#

I need a larger canvas bag though. The one I have is not big enough for some larger shopping hehe

visual tree
#

This reminds me of old people for some reason. They don't have that kind of bag but they always bring this when going shopping

night girder
#

Exactly asablic ๐Ÿ˜‚

edgy hazel
#

get over that feeling. These things are really good

night girder
#

Here is a cool one ๐Ÿ˜‰

#

maybe add some RGB to be really 2024 hehe

visual tree
#

Here, people would laugh at you if they saw a young person using that bag ๐Ÿ˜ญ

#

Because only old people bring those wheel bags around

night girder
visual tree
#

People here are judgemental and think only "old and poor" use those wheel bags...

night girder
#

but, I mean. That banana one is expensive AF probably ๐Ÿ˜‚

#

bright pink bars. bright green wheels. 100x bananas. ๐Ÿ‘Œ

#

The problem I have is, that if we have a backpack. We have to open our backpack at the cash register.

#

But, if you have a handbag, then it's all fine and you not have to show it hehe

visual tree
#

I carry a canvas bag in my backpack and just take it out before going shopping (or take one from home when I'm walking to a nearby grocery store)

#

Good thing a larger grocery store is only a 15 minute walk from home

night girder
#

You don't have to open your backpack at the cash register so they can check you aren't stealing anything?

#

In some places, we even have to leave our backpacks at the entrance.

visual tree
#

Never had this issue, they have detectors at the each cashier station

#

They should work "in theory" if you hide something in the backpack. Never tested it though because I would never steal anything jace_smile

night girder
#

So no more backpacks too stores either is the story ๐Ÿ˜‚

#

Unless if I go to the comic shop. They are cool with it.

visual tree
#

Since there are products with RF stickers that can easily be removed, they are probably monitoring for suspicious activity

#

Noticed several stores with a security room where there are a lot of monitors and security guards monitoring them

night girder
#

We don't monitor anyone in our stores. We just check everyone who leaves hehe

#

I mean, I know a few stores that have private detectives running around. Or whatever they are called. Undercover shoppers?

edgy hazel
#

someone pinged me in offtopic general

#

I do not dare to enter that cesspool

I think it's very important for yall to know about it

but yeah, I do understand that at a party, you can't wear earplugs when people want to talk to you and be social hehe

edgy hazel

but if you go listen to a band or something, I always recommend ear protection.

edgy hazel

it was glorious

edgy hazel

it was so gooooooooood

night girder
visual tree

Hope there are some ear plugs that reduce the noise volume but still let you hear everything

edgy hazel
#

that's their function

night girder

The crappy one just block everything. The custom/expensive ones only reduces volume, but try to retain the quality of sound.

visual tree
night girder
#

Custom made one. That's what I am talking about.

#

not to be confused with earbuds btw hehe

visual tree

Oh, never actually tried them

edgy hazel

but yeah on concerts even crappy ones are better than none

night girder

Even toilet paper fuck it.

night girder

it will help with situations like you described.

#

I know jabra ones have it.

visual tree
#

I still use wired earbugs and seriously need to buy some good wireless ones

night girder
#

Ah, if you go shop for ones. Search for hearthrough.

#

you push the side of one of the buds to activate it.

#

Or you double press. Can't remember. Tapping the sides of the earbuds and you can control the music too. Pause. Next song etc ๐Ÿ˜„

visual tree
#

Can you use them in concerts?

edgy hazel
#

nah not really

#

get proper concert plugs

night girder
#

My opinion: anything to protect my ears is better than hearing damage.

visual tree
#

Someone told me concerts in the past were even louder than today. Can't imagine anything louder than what we have today lol

night girder
visual tree
#

Even though most concerts I've visited are still loud and probably cause hearing damage to some degree

night girder
#

So it is true. At least in my case.

when i lived in arizona, there is a strict ban on all fireworks

idk how long fireworks are gonna be around in germany anymore. People started shooting them on emergency services last year

charred pewter

and yes, az wildfires are pretty bad

only laptop iโ€™d buy is apple, the thinness is really noice, and iโ€™d never game on a laptop

edgy hazel

apple is great but the modularity and repairability of frameworks are insane

sharp oasis

They come out with a new gpu for that laptops it's plug and play ish.

edgy hazel

new CPU out? just get a new mobo with it. Want to switch to 4k? buy a new screen

dusk rivet

yeah fair, individual needs is super important

sharp oasis
#

And I'd looove that

edgy hazel
#

if my 2018 macbook ever dies I'll prolly go framework

dusk rivet

with a laptop i just want something good enough to run netflix and some chrome tabs well, and be super thin and light

sharp oasis
#

I'm less about the thinness and lightness

dusk rivet
#

it working well with my phone is a nice bonus

sharp oasis

And more about the robust functionality and longevity

dusk rivet

price tag is a little off putting for apple compared to the performance, but iโ€™ll cope

sharp oasis

Framework is really robust with upgradabilty

dusk rivet

if someone else made a laptop of comparable thickness with the same premium feel to it iโ€™d buy from them

edgy hazel
sharp oasis

For my one that I'd like

edgy hazel

they're not cheap

night girder

and people say Apple is expensive

edgy hazel

that's just a laptop in that class tbh

#

go to DELL/HP and you'll pay a similar amount for it

sharp oasis
#

I know it's really expensive for the components I want

#

But it makes sence

edgy hazel

but framework is still a little bit more expensive, but your package will last for a long time and you can just Ship of Theseus it

okay that's fun

night girder

no macos though

sharp oasis

if you go insane on specs you can get it up to 3,483usd

sharp oasis

I mean, I don't want a windows laptop. So if I would buy one, it would be Linux.

sharp oasis

I will never use inigrated gpu with video editing

okay hotswappable keyboard, numpad and trackpad is insane

you can also skip RAM and everything

I hope people don't forget it

okay that's cool

If I wasn't so budget constrained, I'd go with framework for my next laptop

night girder
jagged snow

They are pricey, but you have to remember that it's upgradeable

dusk rivet

whole point of the framework is customizability, if you don't need/want that, it's not for you

night girder
#

that just even more costs ๐Ÿ˜’

jagged snow
night girder
#

I am just wonder, would it be cheaper to buy a new macbook pro every x years because they die. Or replace components with a framework.

dusk rivet
#

idea is in the future you could just buy a new gpu, and slot it into your laptop

edgy hazel
#

yeah the whole point is, instead of buying a whole new laptop, you just buy a new motherboard for the fraction of it

jagged snow
night girder
#

isn't that too early to tell?

jagged snow
#

Since it's already cheaper than a similarly specced mbp iirc?

edgy hazel

Because the sensitivity of the microphone etc. are phone dependant.

twin dew
#

And phone app based ones even then aren't really that accurate, as the phone mic isn't linear across the frequencies, and that would need to be calibrated too, which would be real pain to do.

And if that is Satisfactory related, wrong place, this isn't tech-support.
But if that is for Satisfactory, I would expect you to have 10+ years old CPU that doesn't support SSE4.1 (and possibly AVX1), and cannot run U8 anymore.
AMD Phenom II based CPUs and Intel before 2rd gen Core or part of Core 2 Duo/Quad lineup.

So you either need newer CPU, AMD Bulldozer or newer (FX-####) or Intel Core i#-2### or newer.
Or stay on U7 or earlier UE5.1 based experimentals of U8 (0.8.1.3 or older).

Yes, to run Unreal Engine 5.2 based Update 8 version of Satisfactory. So 0.8.2.0 and up.

The versions before that (0.8.1.3 and down) would work with the current CPU.

new mouse, same model. kinda sucks but now i'm convinced that all mouse switches are designed to last 1 year & then die

twin dew
#

Only on some mice.
The switches have click lifetime, and you can buy those in several different grades, from 1M clicks to 50M clicks.
And some mouse manufacturers use the cheap bins.

languid gulch
#

yea got a 20M click model, but no matter what it seems like none of them last past about a month out of warranty

twin dew
#

You have checked the switch markings?

#

On the dead mice?

#

Because I don't know any mouse manufacturer that actually advertises the rating.
And that someone on internet says their unit at some point in past had good bin switches doesn't mean that later production has those.

languid gulch
#

i guess i should, but also god knows if i can even open it without breaking the housing

twin dew
#

What mouse?

languid gulch
#

redragon m913

twin dew
languid gulch
#

logitech should stop making mice completely & just license out their scroll wheel

#

oh yea am also nervous about cracking open something with an integrated battery

#

i have fantastic luck

twin dew
#

So Chinese company...
And in the value segment on the prices...
So even the switch markings cannot be trusted...

languid gulch
#

but i also have those same trust issues with damn near every other tech company

twin dew
#

So based on the pics, Huano made switches.

languid gulch
#

other than the left click switch, everything else about it has been shockingly good the past year

#

logitech's grippy shit would have worn away, fallen off, or gotten that lovely sticky oily by now

#

i haven't noticed any battery life degradation either

twin dew
#

Yeah, they advertise Huano 20M click switches, but either they run too little current through the switch on click and they oxidize, or they are using mismarked or QC reject switches, both possible for pure China company.

#

Weird fact, if you run too little current through microswitch when it is pressed to "on" state, it will fail pretty soon.
Unless gold plated, and in that case if the gold plating isn't thick enough, it will fail over time from the gold wearing off and then oxidizing.

languid gulch
#

now that i know they have the same garbage switches as everyone else, i'm ok with it. it's half the price i was paying for logitech mice every year, & has 6 more side buttons & non-shit Ghub

twin dew
#

Well, Logitech is another of the companies intentionally using the cheapest garbage bins in their mice.

languid gulch
#

yea but charging $70 for the name

twin dew
#

Yup.

languid gulch
#

the only thing i like about their mice is the infiniscroll & side click

twin dew
#

Same with Razer at one point at least, don't know right now as haven't cared since they implemented login requirements.

languid gulch
#

LOL

#

"please log in to use your mouse"

#

now that i know the limitations, i'm more ok with it

#

& my new keyboard has been amazing, tho it's still under warranty

twin dew
#

And replacing mouse switches is trivial if the mouse can be disassembled without damage and you know basics of soldering.

languid gulch
#

which i might do with the old one if i can find some opticals that'd work with it

twin dew
#

The pinout is standard AFAIK.
And doesn't even need optical ones, just real source good ones.
Unfortunately the stuff you can buy on Amazon, Ebay, AliExpress etc. cannot be trusted.

languid gulch
#

too bad we don't get any good tech shows during the year. which is really fucking stupid considering we have honeywell, intel, & AMD fabs all within about a 30 minute drive

i hell as sure know i use unix timestamp ints for everything myself in code LOL ...

but but ! i store them in BIGint... ๐Ÿ˜‰

or some of the older tables... unsigned int

while the cells can hold many years further, i guess 'getting' the timestamp will be failing to do so

edgy hazel
twin dew

Which is why many places have started to move to Int64 for them.

charred pewter

night girder

Linux originally used a 64-bit time_t for 64-bit architectures only; the pure 32-bit ABI was not changed due to backward compatibility.[19] Starting with version 5.6 of 2020, 64-bit time_t is supported on 32-bit architectures, too. This was done primarily for the sake of embedded Linux systems.[20]

Thing is a LOT of devices still use Unix time

a lot

Most documentation has advised against using 32-bit int for time since almost 10y ago

twin dew

But in a way the airline backend server software might be too old to get hit by this specific bug, still originally using just separate character fields for day, month and year probably, with originally 2 character year, fixed for Y2K to 4 character.
